When you're attracted to other genders, it's easy to miss a same-sex crush, only then to realise that oh, it wasn’t just admiration, it was attraction.

Charles, having grown up at the height of the AIDS crisis, with an abusive and probably homophobic father, killed by racist bullies? That would make anyone repress any gay feelings. Especially if you experience crushes on people with a different sex to you.

Charles sees Crystal and takes his chance. He's enamoured with this smart, strong-willed, pretty girl who can see him not only in a physical sense, but pays attention to him. He longs to be loved. Then he says the infamous "That sounds alot like you, doesn't it? Maybe that's why I like her so much" line. What an icon. And he compares himself and his best friend to the greatest love story of all time, Orpheus and Euridyce's.

When Edwin confesses to him, he doesn't rule out the possibility of returning these feelings. He knows they're already devoted to each other. They've already had 30 years of companionship and solving cases together.

"As long as I have my best mate and a case to solve, I'm good."

Being with Edwin is simple. They solve cases, help others, run away from Death. It's a simple existance. Charles gave up eternity to be with Edwin, because he was kind to him when he was dying. Charles finds him fun, wants to protect him, knows that Edwin is a kind and good person. One that Charles wants to be.

"Bad guys don't worry about being bad guys. And you, Charles Rowland, are the best person I know."

Crystal's role is very important in changing the dynamic between Edwin and Charles. Not only because Charles falls for her, but because she opens them up. She digs out their repressed feelings and trauma. Charles finally deals with his dad's abuse, his happy-go-lucky mask falls. She points it out to Edwin. Charles kept it up so well because Edwin didn't press it, but Crystal does. And Charles finally lets himself process what happened to him, and how that affects his relationships.

Charles never saw genuine love between his parents, and that affects how he views relationships. It impacts how he forms them, too. But he's a loverboy, he longs to be loved, he falls easily. Why wouldn’t he fall for someone who stuck to his side for 30 years?

Crystal and Monty's roles mirror each other – they help the boys figure out their feelings and desires. Crystal makes Edwin jealous that there's someone else Charles cares about in the same sense he cares for Edwin. The Cat King helps Edwin discover desire, Monty – genuine love. As Charles' and Crystal's relationship kickstarts (albeit ends as quickly) and Monty persues Edwin, he discovers the depth of his feelings.

"These complicated feelings that you have? They're for Charles."

I would love to see their wants explored more in the future season(s, hopefully multiple). Charles giving into desire with Desire of the Endless' guidance? Yes please.

I simply cannot believe that anyone would doubt Painland/Payneland endgame. They're everything to each other. They're a constant presence, reassurance, and love. Platonic, romantic, it doesn't matter. Their bond is so deep and genuine that immortal beings see it and leave them be, in the afterlife they chose for each other. Their love is so deep it transcends planes: from mortal plane to Hell, it leads Charles to Edwin. Charles is not Orpheus, when he turns around to hear Edwin out on the staircase from Hell, he manages to get him out. And they have literally forever for each other.

You looked up to meet Sanjis smile that shone brighter than the sun that beamed behind him.

You sat in the middle of your garden that you had began tending an hour ago, growing the new vegetables you had bought in the last island that the crew had docked at

“Hello handsome~” You returned the smile more than happy for the company, making him flush at your remark

Since you and Sanji had begun dating, you decided to keep it a secret, at least for now. Dealing with teasing and never ending questions from your crew mates at such early stages of the relationship didn’t seem ideal, instead, keeping to yourselves

But it had started to become difficult

You could literally see how much it physically pained Sanji to restrain himself from gushing all over you every time you met his gaze, or when you helped him in the kitchen, or when you thanked him for his amazing food, or when you were just… existing really

Sanji loved you 24/7, 365, and not being able to show it off to his friends was making him insane, and you were not any better either. Not being able to kiss, hug or even talk endearingly to your boyfriend whenever you wanted was tough, settling on stolen glances, sweet brushes and just being together in The Sunny and sharing company at night watches. Which it was nice of course! But it still had a toll on both of you

What you both didn’t know, is that everyone noticed what was happening, they just wanted to see how far you’ll get

I mean who wouldn’t? You’re always together no matter the situation or the setting. When you’re not together you’re looking at each other. Sanji had mastered on inserting you in every topic of conversation, and of course Nami and Robin had noticed how every night like clockwork you’ll leave the women’s quarters only to magically appear when they wake up. The way both of your body language and overall aura shifted whenever the other entered the room was palpable, almost too sweet.

It was unmissable

The cook settles beside you, letting his head fall on top of yours his hand locking with yours as he lets out a heavy sigh, tired of pretending not being head over heels for you. You relish in his touch growing sweet flowers in both of your hands that makes Sanjis heart miss several beats, you had found a way of showing your love through your powers that never seemed to not amaze and smitten him.

“I’ve missed you” he whispers, his eyes closed as he breathes in your beautiful sent and basks in the feeling your bodies touching

“But I’ve been here all day” you giggle, the sound making Sanjis ears perk up hearing his favorite melody

“You know what I mean”

You frown, stealing a glance of the blonde hair that nuzzles in you, it is quite difficult to date in a ship, it feels like you can never have privacy or just time to navigate your relationship, let alone do things without worrying about stares and teases. You loved the strawhats, they were your new found family, but this… you had to work and enjoy on your own time and pace

You sigh before kissing the cooks cheek tenderly, you know better than anyone how passionate he is, you cannot imagine how he must feel to not being able to just be himself like he would wish to around you

“You know I love you, right?” The question baffles the blonde, making him look at you immediately

“Of course dear, don’t I show it enough?” A hint of worry colors his words which makes your heart clench

“You do!” You answer him quickly “I just… know it’s been difficult for you and-“

Everything seemed to fade in the background, not even hearing how were you trying to explain yourself to him.

One of the first things that had made Sanji gravitate towards you quite more often than anyone else in the crew, besides your glowing beauty according to him, was how you cared so deeply. You cared about everyone’s health and happiness, your garden, your dreams, about your place in the crew and, the one most shocking for the cook, him. You were always there for Sanji, through his good and bad no matter what he needed you were there, for a talk, a quiet company, to offer a shoulder to cry or to taste his culinary creations.

You saw something in him that no one else (apart from luffy) did, he always wondered what it may be, even now that you had promised to be by each other’s sides. You were perfect for him, he knew it the moment he saw you, thoughts of you flooding his mind ever since.

Sanji holds your hands that always seemed to move around whenever you were trying to explain something ,which was an antic of yours he loved, he pressed his forehead in yours, breathing stuck in your throat

“You’re too good to me, mon amour”

A shiver ran down your spine at the french words that left his lips, coloring your cheeks all shades of red and pink. His wondering eyes shifting between your eyes and your rose lips that begged to met his. You smile and indulge by kissing him softly, always pouring your heart into every touch, both your heartstrings pulling at each others embrace

He deepens the kiss, long limbs traveling trough your edges and making you almost fall flat on the grass

“Slow down lover boy” you smile breaking the kiss knowing well where this would lead, Sanji looks at you with lost puppy eyes but you were not risking it

You lay down patting the grass yo your side coaxing him to relax with you, he follows your motions but instead of laying down he supports himself on his elbows while looking down at you, caressing your features

Luffys voice echoes through The Sunny while he calls for Sanji, wondering around when he finds Robin and Nami who were peeking at the cute moment between you both in silence

“Have you guys seen Sanji? I’m starving” Luffy cries settling between them

“Shh Luffy they’ll hear you” the navigator protest making Robin giggle

The captain redirects his vision to your garden, smiling ear to ear

“Why are they hiding?” He’s met with silence from both women who to be honest, didn’t really know why

“We should let them handle this at their own time, captain” Robin answers

“They’re so stupid, like we’ll do something bad about it” Nami rolls her eyes playfully while Luffy ponders quietly beside her

“Maybe they don’t want to ruin what they have”

Elain & Azriel are EndGame

Azriel’s bonus chapter: semi-essay on my thoughts

This post will be a long one. The shipwar has been going on for far too long, and there's a possiblity that we'll be getting closure soon. So, I want to put my thoughts out there. For Obvious reasons, I could be very wrong, but this is what I think based on canon text: (Ignore any errors..I haven't edited this, and I'm sure there are many posts like this that are way more articulate)

Elriel are endgame. If they’re not then Azriel is kinda pathetic and having him end-up with anyone else is bad writing and character assassination. (Which we sadly won’t put past sjm but I don’t think she would..at least I hope)

1- Elain has no other love interest. Yes, Lucien is her mate but we have hinted at a broken/rejected mating bond for the longest time when it comes to these two so having them accept it eventually is going to be quite underwhelming, repetitive and boring. Even Lucien seems to have given up/isn’t interested in bridging that gap between them, which we’re told in both acofas and acosf. Unless you want to count the longing pointed out by Cassian, although Cassian also pointed out that Lucien was also uncomfortable when he mentioned his mate. To add on, there is no sexual tension between the two, and we know how important that is for sjm’s couple. You can't keep whining "but Elain isn't giving him a chance, if only she gave him a chance, then maybe this and maybe that" Elain is not a seprate entity, she is what SJM writes, Sjm could have written that but she did not yet and I'm not sure if she will. It feels too late at this point, she had already shown us that Elain has feelings for someone else aka Azriel. The author doesn't have to spell everything out for us to understand to what's going on. Sarah usually makes it clear who's endgame. and she literally is. So, it would be very sudden and out of the blue if Lucien and Elain were to end up together when she had never shown it before. When even Azriel pointed this out “I think Lucien will never be good enough for her, and she has no interest in him, anyway” people can say Rhys killed elriel, that the bonus chapter ended them. But this line right here tells us otherwise! First we know Azriel and Elain can read each other so well that they don’t need words, and then Azriel tells us this. He’s literally telling us that Elain does not want Lucien.

We also cannot compare elucien to Feysand or Nessian in the “enemies to lovers" department, because these two seem to hardly care about each other. For obvious reasons she wouldn’t accept or reject Lucien in a book that isn’t hers. But if they do end up together I’d feel robbed that she had more sexual tension with Azriel than she did with Lucien. And we know that Nessian and Feysand had sexual tension before getting together. Most of what we got from Elain and Lucien was awkwardness, and discomfort. Not a single spark. Furthermore, it would feel like Azriel was just leading Elain own. Plus their romance (Lucien and Elain)  would not feel organic, only getting with Lucien because she felt rejected by Azriel, which doesn’t give epic romance no matter how sjm tries to spin it. It would always make Lucien seem like the second choice.

2- Azriel regifting the necklace was a dickhead move, and offensive to both girls. Anyone thinking the regifting of the necklace ended elriel or started gwynriel is delusional and clearly doesn’t know how the romance genre works. (should’ve thrown the gift in the Sidra like Cassain did) I can’t believe Rhys isn’t paying Azriel enough that he felt the need to return the necklace to the shop instead of throwing it. Senstive Illyrian baby indeed. 

3- Rhys saying stay away from Elain (can we take a moment to appreciate how sexy Rhys was for pulling rank, he really made the ship more interesting now) and Azriel actually listening to him?? When he told him you can’t order me to do that. shit would be underwhelming if Azriel actually stayed away? Hello? Secret relationship potential ? Hello? Forbidden romance potential  ??? The tropes would be epic. Sjm had never done that. And I’m not saying she will, but this is how I see it playing out. + Azriel saying it was a mistake to Elain, and Elain apologizing?? The fact she was confused/hurt and probably thought she misunderstood the whole situation? SHE IS BABYGIRL?? Regardless, Azriel saying it was a mistake and it being a mistake is NOT it. This is not how romance works most of the time. This is such a basic romantic trope, why are a lot of people misinterepting it? Elain deserves better, and sjm isn’t about to hurt Elain’s feelings without making it up to her. And she’s definitely not making Azriel end up with another girl before he fixes that shit. I will be needing a proper apology to Elain.  

4- Whenever people think of the bonus chapter they weigh in Azriel’s feelings far more than Elain’s. It’s clear that Elain and Azriel’s feelings are MUTUAL, ignore the bonus chapter and it’s right there in the actual book. I don’t think Elain got the memo that Azriel had  a conversation with another girl after he hurt her feelings which made him realize he’s in love all of a sudden. *sarcasm*  that would be very out of character for Azriel. 

5- His chest sparkling at the thought of Gwyn getting the necklace was so??? I have been saying he’s for the streets and yes this was out of pocket. So, I understand people shipping them. However it could mean anything really, you can't continue saying that Gwyn in the bonus has to mean something, and that that spark must mean somethig but continue to disreagrd every single Elriel interaction like they mean nothing. Because for it to be taken as romance we’d have to ignore the beginning of the bonus, the feysand’s bonus acosf/acomaf/acowar and acofas. + we could easily take this in a platonic way, which is how I viewed it when I read the bonus. Not everything has to be romantic. And sjm will NOT introduce a new guy to make him end up with Elain since we already established Elain doesn’t want Lucien and Lucien doesn’t want her either. 

6- I know that a lot of people have theories about Gwyn being a lightsinger and all of this happening because of her powers (While I do think this is very smart, it wasn’t something I thought of so I won’t talk about it). I do think it’s possible, and all the theories I saw were really cool but idk where sjm is going with this, so to make it simple I do think it could be because she’s his student, she went through a lot it could simply be platonic happiness that a girl who went through so much is going to be happy about something. Even if it was a secondhand necklace specifically picked with ANOTHER girl in mind PLUS I do think sjm wanted drama, and for people to doubt elriel cuz now they have all these obstacles, so Gwyn would be the easy choice, but the second choice regardless. The relationship would feel icky and I genuinely cannot see the potential gwynriels keep talking about. I would take the ship a lot more seriously if a) he didn’t regift her another girl’s necklace b) there was more to them in the actual book. c) he wasn’t still upset about it 3 days later… 

7- There’s a high possibility Gwyn never even got the necklace..

He gave it to Clotho not Gwyn, he didn’t want his name mentioned, and then said if any other girl would like it to give it to them: the aim was to get rid of Elain’s necklace. It’s sort of a parallel with Cassain throwing away Nesta’s present.

I think it’s possible that Azriel went there because he knows how much the girls in the library have suffered, especially since his mom did too, it's possible he thought "okay this is a pretty necklace, I don't want to hold onto the reminder of what could've been, so instead of throwing it let another girl be happy about it. At least it won’t go to waste”

Clotho could tell there was something wrong, like maybe she sensed the energy and decided ayeee let me keep this aside for him, he might come back and ask for it. 

The bonus did not happen at the end of the book 

If Azriel was truly in love with Gwyn now /or he wanted her/ or more between them was going to happen/ or they were mates according to some theories we could have AT LEAST gotten more after the bonus. 

We know the bonus happened after solstice.

Nesta mentions that Azriel was stone-faced and more aloof than usual, he wouldn’t even give her a smile. That was 3 days after the necklace situation. I think it would’ve been a great opportunity to highlight any attraction between Azriel and Gwyn.

Maybe he sees the necklace around her neck, maybe Nesta and Emerie compliment Gwyn’s necklace, or Gwyn telling them she doesn’t know who it’s from, maybe they tease her that someone might have a crush on her. Nesta could’ve pointed out that Azriel was looking at Gwyn’s necklace.or looking at Gwyn in some sort of way. Literally anything. 

Anyone pointing out the way Azriel and Gwyn looked at each other. A charged glance perhaps. Literally ANYTHING. We only got him looking at her with admiration which is very teacher coded. 

If sjm hadn’t made Nesta realize Azriel had a thing for Elain then maybe gwnyriel would’ve been more appealing to me. But no, Nesta noticed. This doesn’t mean nothing people.

aside from that we got nothing romantic, but a part of the fandom still acts like we need to exile Elain because she’s coming between Gwyn and Azriel’s epic love story.

Not everyone has access to the bonus.  

The Azriel chapter was only in ONE store in the US, but Feysand’s bonus chapter was in 3 stores in the US and UK. I don't know but something tells me it’s more important.  Soooo if SJM would do a love interest switch she would not do it in a bonus chapter, and wouldn’t be highlighting the Az/Elain interactions in ACOSF as much as she did. 

Feyre’s chapter focuses on Elain, it literally tells us Elain is next once we’re done helping Nesta. EASY MATH. and the Azriel bonus also focuses on elriel/Azriel’s feelings. ENDGAME MATERIAL RIGHT HERE. 

But the girls swear up and down that Gwyn and Azriel’s book is next because of a secondhand necklace. 

Let’s assume elriels are the delusional ones (like so many of them say), how do we explain these. 

Casual readers who usually read books and aren’t on the internet and aren’t looking for bonus content (wish that was me)  (lord knows I skipped every bonus chapter in throne of glass and crescent city and I wasn’t confused about anything. Not even once) so they’d expect answers for 

The Charged glance between Azriel and Elain

Elain looking away when Azriel smiled at her during family dinner, Cassian god bless him that idiot could NOT piece all of that together. BUT it was still highlighted through his POV ???

His secret to tell never hers (and we do learn of that secret in the bonus but people who didn’t read it could only guess so they’d want a confirmation) and sjm did say in one of her lives that Nesta learns of one of Azriel’s secrets (she looked all giddy about it)... and that Azriel is going through some shit right now…and we learn why from the bonus chapter.

Cassian wondering why Elain is lying about where she’s going. (I viewed this as her avoiding Azriel but idk) 

Azriel’s protectiveness of Elain. He gives mate behavior without the mate part. (I will hit him on the head though omg let my girl do something)

Elain willing to look for the troves even when Nesta wasn’t, the girl wants to do something  (her journey is coming next) 

Nesta wondering if Elain is training with Azriel or the twins (who are spies that were trained by Azriel !!!) 

Feyre telling Azriel that Elain got him beat for secret keeping. Sure it might sound delusional but Elain keeps being compared to Az/being a spy and maybe this could be a thing. 

Elain speaking back to her sisters about them treating her like a child?? Hello finally 

The way Elain’s mother only treated her like a pretty doll which shaped up Elain’s whole life??? I want this from Elain’s POV sooo bad 

In conclusion, we’re not pausing Elain’s story so Azriel can end up with a side character in a spinoff about an og side character, we’re sticking to our og side characters for now.

Azriel being over Mor because of Elain, and Elain moving on from Graysen because of Azriel only for Elain to get over Azriel to be with Lucien (who we got nothing from aside a mating bond..) and for Az to get over Elain and questioning fate for her…only to end up with gwyn…like I don’t think anyone could take Azriel’s feelings seriously if this happens. Shit will be too goofy.  Because if he ends up with Gwyn who says he won’t move on to the next pretty girl he sees afterwards.

To add to that, what plot would we have for Azriel and Gwyn. We'll get more Valkyries training, more healing journey so the plot would have to be paused for this. Nesta’s book was mostly about her healing journey and friendship, while it was nice I don’t want a repeat for the next book. Especially since we know the Rite took a toll on Gwyn, she went back to the library, wasn’t even sure she would make it to Nessian’s mating ceremony. This doesn’t give the protagonist of the next book to me. Or "I thought it was pretty obvious"

Elain’s healing journey had started in ACOWAR, she got her friends in ACOWAR. Now is their TIME to do something!! She is next. 

Closing thoughts on what I think would happen based off each ship happening: 

If elriel happens = new sjm couple dynamic/interesting plot. Fresh sjm protagonist that is unlike sjm's others + we don’t ignore all the foreshadowing and hints. We follow the love triangle we set up in the og trilogy + finally get a rejected mating bond. And instead of warrior training we might get spy training and instead of physical power (as far as we know) we get something more mental. Again this is very new for sjm + there’s a lot to Elain’s power that we don’t know and since Azriel was the one who found out what she was, I think it would make more sense for him to know how to help her. Imagine the sexual tension during training..yes please. I hope sjm doesn’t rob me. Elain is really mysterious, we got Nesta’s inner thoughts before her book but we still haven't gotten a peep about Elain’s inner thoughts and I’m just dying to know more. AND THE STAKES!

1) Rhys forbidding Azriel from Elain, 2) Elain’s mating bond,3) Azriel’s self doubt and how he doesn’t think he’s good enough. 4) The blood duel and the political mess we could get into. (Lucien probs won't but what if Beron would, the breeding potential, A seer must be a powerful thing she can see things others can't and I think that’s valuable. If Eris thought Nesta was valuable as cauldron made and there was no potential there, so The Autumn court probably feels even more entitled to Elain) We have high inner and outer stakes. I have a feeling SJM will fumble all this potential but a girl can dream 

If elucien happens = another successful mating bond + “enemies”  to lovers sort of but they won’t ever be mean to each other so maybe not enemies, just dislike and awkwardness to friends to lovers?  We ignore the hints about a rejected bond and in mating bonds we trust. We also ignore all the elriel hints, and their mutual feelings. We follow the love triangle set up in the og trilogy. I don’t think Lucien could train her in anything? Maybe self defense, Idk Sarah could pull something, but I don’t see Elain leaving her circle of friends but neither do I see Lucien settling in the night court and leaving his own friends. There are no stakes but Elain’s and Lucien’s awkwardness around each other + Elain’s feelings for Azriel. Elain’s and Lucien’s plot connects though so at least there’s that, SJM could ship them off on a mission together and make them get closer. Forced proximity sort of thing. 

If gwynriel happens then = we lost the whole plot, ignored the foreshadowing and hints found in the actual book. Mentor to lovers, civil with each other. Azriel has to move on from Elain first though and that could be icky. Healing journey, more Valkyries training. So we pick up from where we left off in acosf, and we’d see Azriel trying to get her to come out of the Library, or he goes to visit her there until she agrees to come out again. Maybe if Gwyn is a lightsinger then idk more training with Azriel? Again, no stakes but Gwyn’s trauma and Azriel’s self doubt oh and also his feelings for Elain. But that’s it, Gwyn as of now does not connect to the overall plot with the troves (she’s not made therefore she can’t use them) or koschei. So I don’t see us making her go on a mission like that. I’ve seen a lot of gwynriles saying Gwyn has spy potential idk where, but she could barely keep a secret for Nesta so I highly doubt she’d be keeping secrets for the IC. 

Ps: the original koschei plot is 3 sisters marrying 3 very powerful wizards and like idk 3 sisters 3 brothers…we can have a retelling ya know

Very awkwardly holds his arms out for a hug, and if you accept, he even more awkwardly pats your back.

“Are you seriously ruining my shirt? How are my enemies supposed to think I have a good fashion sense now?!”

Goes into a rant about how he needs to look his best and how it’s a good strategy to beat his enemies in battle while you’re kinda just there… honestly are you even crying anymore?

You’ve stopped crying ages ago, and he’s still just talking

In conclusion, Technoblade is good at calming people down without even trying (I was literally having a breakdown and all I needed to do was listen to the silly pig man talk about Greek mythology. It must all be part of his master plan…)

Speaking of listening to his voice, here’s a scenario.

“Technoblade, can you read to me?”

“…what?”

“Read to me.”

“I’m not reading you a bedtime stor-“

“I wanted you to tell me about Greek mythology.”

“Fine. Come here.”

Long story short, he starts by reading you just one story. That one story turns into the entire history of the Greek gods and goddesses… yeah you pass out pretty quickly. But Technoblade isn’t one to stop mid-ramble. Once he notices you’re asleep, he’ll continue talking, just quieter. He’ll eventually get sleepy himself, and soon enough… you’re both asleep.

I thought part of the problem would be Zoro's own terrifying loyalty, and I think if it were Literally Anyone Else Zoro could have shaken off the devil fruit with sheer will but... it's Luffy. It probably scares the hell out of the crew, too, not only because they know if given the same order they would fall in just as easily but also because *they couldn't tell*. Are they bad friends??? Bad crewmates??? No Zoro is just insane about his captain and always has been

You are so right!!!

Zoro, a man with Conquers Haki, is not one to be controlled. He has willed himself to stay alive. If he was ordered to obey anyone else he probably would have shaken off the command. If not immediately then very quickly.

But his loyalty to Luffy is all encompassing. He doesn’t blindly follow him. He trust Luffy and that trust has been earned and given over and over. He could never doubt Luffy and he wants to follow him. He wants to make his captain proud and protect him and their crew.

If it was anyone else their orders wouldn’t matter to him. But Luffy, the King of the Pirates, ya he’d follow his orders any day.

And it is terrifying for the crew. In so many levels

Zoro is one of the most stubborn strong willed people alive. If he can fall under this devil fruits power than they all can. If Zoro can’t shake it off then how could they? (He would shake it off if it was anyone but Luffy he was obeying.)

They feel awful that they didn’t notice sooner that Zoro was under the influence of a devil fruit. How could they not tell that their friends free will had been striped from him.

It has to be so unsettling to watch Luffy not talking to Zoro. Because once Luffy finds out he’s doing everything he can to not give Zoro orders. But at the same time Zoro is fallowing all his non-verbal commands. And for the crew that has to be so uncomfortable to watch to people who you know love and trust each other be put into such an awful situation where that trust and loyalty is being perverted.

But like you said Zoro is insane about his captain. Anyone else this wouldn’t be a problem for him. But it’s Luffy.

Bonus points: the fruit forces Zoro to obey every command, and he’s picking up on the non-verbal. When Luffy needs a hug or someone to sit with and there are some he’s (even as a professional Luffy reader) has never caught before. Luffy needing reassurance, or other scenarios.

But know that Zoro knows what Luffy needs in those moments he’s happy to provide.

Luffy feels awful because again Zoro doesn’t actually want to do any of this

Until they catch up with the guy three days later and Luffy’s all “free Zoro!!!!!” And the king looks at them confused because “my powers wear off after 48 hours” and everyone realizes that the last day was Zoro doing all that stuff because he wanted to.

When confronted he just shrugs “I didn’t notice that the spell broke because I do all that stuff anyways. I’m the first mate it’s my job to be there for my captain. I want to be there for my captain.”

Yandere Keigo Takami / Hawks Headcanons

Warnings: Cussing, mention of cheating/murdering/going through private information, stalking actions/mentions, black mail mention/action, drugging mention.

Hawks, my beloved, you are my husband ‼️

As he is the No.2 Hero, he tends to have a lot of potential; getting away with a lot of things with his flirty and charming ways. When he sees someone he likes, wants to start a conversation with, or sleep with: he uses his words, bending them like candy and usually succeeding. 

There are two (2) ways to get his attention, one being ‘the fuck off’ type: The one who bluntly has no interest in him, not falling for his charming ways and denying the suggestion to go out for dinner. Or, you being a ‘sweet angel’. Someone who owns a book or flower shop; one that smells like heaven. These two would make him attracted, and right when you notice; it’s already too late. 

Keigo is smart, silent, and brawny. He uses these to his potential to stalk you at night, like a predator ready to pounce on their prey any minute. He tries to learn about everything about you: hacking into your work files, social media accounts, bank account, electronics, and learning about anything from what you dislike, to how your night routine goes and what you do right when you wake up. 

Keigo doesn’t really care about other people other than you, and this goes along the list of your family, friends, and close relatives. He would black mail them, threatening to tell them to leave you alone, or else. 

He loves to show himself off to you, proving that he can be worthy of protecting, providing, and loving you in ways your other partner couldn't. In addition to your partner (if you have one), Keigo will find ways to sabotage your relationship: showing pictures of them cheating, being villiness, or doing something behind your back other than cheating. Of course, Keigo is there, rubbing your back and telling you ‘it’s okay, I got you Angel. I’m the only one you need.’ 

Hawks would try to manipulate you into a relationship with him rather than kidnapping. He would try to use his words to keep you in the house, make you quit your job, and become a working-from home-person, explaining that it’s dangerous for you to work outside and he’s the only one who can protect you. You wouldn’t even know you were being manipulated into a relationship till it’s too late. Though,  if you're smart and see right through him, trying to break off the ‘friendship’ you two have; he snaps and kidnaps you the night you tell him to leave you alone. 

Keigo’s yandere tendencies are protective, (semi-)delusional, manipulative, and obsessive. Once you wake up from him kidnapping you, he explains that he did this for you and to ‘protect you’. Once he’s over, he gently smiles and serves you food, specifically your favorite. The room is covered with things you like, including your preferred perfume (if you use any), books/a TV, and a camera in the corner of the room that is very well hidden. 

He’s very affectionate. Keigo tends to manipulate you into cuddling with him, expressing he’s very touch-starved and he would love to be held by the love of his life. He loves putting his hands on you anywhere: Thighs, your ass, shoulders, or kissing you so much that you’ll have to push him away at some point. He loves laying on you, either on your thighs, stomach or chest. While you guys hug, he tends to wrap his wings around you both, protecting you in some-way. He also loves resting his head on her neck, breathing in your scent and gently biting it, blowing raspberries from time to time. 

He loves spoiling you. Buying literally anything you love, if you want a new blanket? Sure, he’d buy it and make sure it’s not scratchy and make sure it’s the best to his advances; only the best for his mate. Want a phone? It depends, but sure! Sadly he will have a time limit on it, allowing him to look through what you’ve been doing. Want to go outside for a special occasion? Fine… But he has to hold you and if he sees you talking to anyone, especially a man? We’re leaving.

He’s very paranoid, whether that’s his bird traits or him as your ‘partner’, he tends to go the extra mile with you: baby proofing the entire house, leaving his feathers everywhere, locking and securing the windows. The front door can only be opened as it has finger lock on it, along with three (3) locks. This also includes that there are no doors in the house, other than the bathroom door for privacy, there are no doors; he explained in great detail that it was ‘for his wings’. 

If you somehow do escape: passing through the 24/7 on security cameras, alarm warnings, and picking the locks; you only have a few minutes to fully escape, hide, and pretend to be someone else. The moment he finds you, he isn’t nice anymore. 

The punishments range from how far you ran, how long you hid, and how much damage you did to the house while escaping. The lightest punishment he would do is chain you back up, along with a house-arrest ankle bracelet so he can check your location better. The harshest one will be him guilt-tripping you to the max: crying and yelling that all he wants to do is protect you, yet, you don’t listen. He will even cause himself harm to make you feel bad. He will even bring his childhood into the fights you two have, saying the way he acts is the only way he ‘knows’ because he needs you, and only you. 

Now, if you decide to do the normal ‘physical or verbal’ trying; he’d be more so… Scary. If you decide to kick, punch, or spit: He’d grab you harshly, grabbing the back of your neck as his other hand grips your chin, forcing you to look directly into his eyes; forming a stern bond. “Now what did I tell you if you act up again? Please don’t make me force you to swallow those pills again. Please just love me, I love you so much hon.”

Now, if you decide to use verbal abuse, he’d gently caress your cheek, looking you into your eyes as his turn a darker but cool gold: “please don’t hurt me dove, it quite pains me. I’ve been through enough hell already, please don’t do it.”

Soon, you’d start to fall for him just as much as he did for you. Both of you are on the way to be married, just like the way it should be.

A point no one ever touches on about Flint:

The fact that he was raised by his grandfather.

Now, maybe it was common back then, but from personal experience; losing your parents at such a young age makes a huge impact on a person.

People argue that “Flint” was created because of the loss of Thomas Hamilton. But I’d like to think it was when he lost his parents. The only difference being, Miranda and Thomas allowed him to come out of the shadows, out of hiding. He had that rage inside him before he lost Thomas, his boss in the Navy said so himself after he beat up a guy in the bar. He had a darkness in him that not even he understood the depths of.

I can definitely relate to that statement and mindset, I think as a kid instead of acting out on his aggression; Flint used books and stories to try and escape his reality, so he wouldn’t be alone with his own thoughts. I do the same with TV shows and stories I write.

But then he found Thomas and Miranda and he didn’t need the books to crawl into, he was accepted by them, welcomed. And as someone who was adopted themselves, it’s extremely hard and sometimes it feels impossible to believe that someone could love you as you are or for who you are. Not only that, I think he found family within them, something sometimes hard for someone who loses their parents.

Flint tried to fit in by becoming an officer, upholding the standards of the law and whatnot, to be like everyone else. But deep inside, I think he felt very out of place and alone. He saw the world as it was, the cruelty within the people, and he ended up showing that to Thomas who was quite oblivious to it. But Flint knew the world was cruel at an early age.

They come from different backgrounds, but together they get to see the world through each other’s eyes, and that is a world that they can see being happy in.

Now, I know a lot of people like to think it’s purely queer rage that drove Flint, but I like to think it was something much deeper than that. Yes, he loved Thomas, inside and out, but I think Thomas was the first person who he didn’t have to pretend with. He was the first person who made him feel as if he wasn’t alone: that he was worthy of being loved. Then he was taken away and James became Flint and took Miranda away with him out of England.

Her ghost even says that first to him, she was a mother, and that’s why he was so ruined over her. He lost his mother again. I think it just shows that his reasons are a lot deeper than just being ostracized for being queer in that time. I think his rage goes beyond that, it goes all the way to his core of who he believes he is because of the loss of his parents. He came up from nothing, his grandfather wasn’t well off, he didn’t have a mother figure, that can be extremely damaging to a child growing up.

And sure, he had his grandfather, but growing up without parents also makes it extremely hard to figure out who you are. And it doesn’t specifically say how he lost his parents, but personally I like to believe that he lost his mother in childbirth, maybe his father died before he was born. It does mention that his father was a carpenter’s mate (worked on a ship) and that James himself had no schooling growing up. Which means, he learned everything himself because his grandfather was a fisherman and probably wasn’t well educated either. So he came from literally nothing and made something of himself, yet I don’t think he was content. I think he kept climbing the ranks, hoping it would give him a sense of meaning or purpose within his life, give him the peace he wanted, fill the hole within that losing his parents left.

An additional to that would be that James McGraw was a personality he put on, much like he did with Flint.

I also think he saw Gates as a father figure, a mentor, someone he trusted and respected more than any one else. So I think when Gates betrayed him, it broke something inside of him and he felt alone again.

He also says that England took his home; and I don’t think he meant the physical place, I think he meant Thomas. But I also think he meant his final security within himself. With Thomas and Miranda he found family, he found love and trust.

When Miranda was murdered it was the absolute last straw for him. It was like his mother dying all over again; except this time she was murdered, and now no one was safe from his vengeance. And people might think he went overboard, but think about it: someone insinuated that she was a slut and he almost beat the man to death. I think it was well within his rage now he burned the entire place down after she was murdered. Hell, those people got off easy.

He also talks about where the name Flint came from. A man that was never seen again. I think he chose it because in his mind, identity was something you could change, something you could toss away when done with. But closer to the end, he realized, he was Flint, Flint was him, and there was no throwing it away and starting over.

He tells Silver that he shouldn’t be afraid that he (Silver) will be his end because I think he already realizes that he’s already his own end. That there is no other way other than to die, in order to get rid of Flint. I think he knew at some point, that Silver would have to kill him and he was oky with it, but as long as the war was won or Silver carried on with the efforts of the war, so Flint would no longer be needed. Or Flint would just off himself when the time came. It was like passing on the torch, only Silver blew it out in front of him.

And for the offing himself part, we all know he would do it because at the end of the first season he tried to drown himself, he gave up hope. So he does have it in him to do that. (Not so fun fact: adoptees are 4x more likely to attempt suicide)

And I think it’s another reason Flint allowed himself to trust Silver in the first place. On some level, he knew that Silver understood what it was to have no solid identity, to have a background that made something inside of you missing. Silver had no problems shifting his position on the ship in order to stay relevant, which is why they made such good partners, because they understood one another in a way that Gates never could. But the thing with Silver was that he couldn’t see the ultimate bigger picture like Flint could, he didn’t have the loss Flint had, the sacrifices that Flint made, all he saw in the end was the destruction, not the new beginning coming out of the ashes.

That's a different number to the one we had before. Which one was it before?

John's first chapter was 20:8. Are the numbers an indication of time? In which case, it is likely that this chapter refers to events happening even further in the past.

He sat down on a patch of brown grass and laughed a little, and said, “Beloved, it wouldn’t be over—it wouldn’t begin—for a year.” He said: It was the thin end of the wedge. He said that official paperwork claimed they’d decided to pull back and think things through again, but he’d always known they’d reinvested in something else, he just didn’t know what. He said when the leak happened everyone suddenly knew everything, their project was all over the news, everyone had a fucking opinion.

Yeah, in terms of timing, this is before the resurrection, regarding the ending of the project they'd been working on. The one where they tried to get everyone out.

It really sounds like John wasn't the one to kill everyone, rather - he was working on a way to save everyone, but it was the rich fuckers who cut the funding before they managed to save people.

C— was panicking because with the project over she was getting recalled to England and didn’t want to go, she’d got N— and didn’t want to leave her, refused to admit they were dating even though we all knew.

C was Cassiopeia, then, based on this, with N being Nigella, her cavalier. And partner.

He said, It was the last one that was getting to me. I knew all those bodies by name. Funny to say, but they were my mates, you know? I’d worked on them for such a long time, and they’d given us so much, and now they were going to get dumped in some concrete skip because after what we’d done to them they couldn’t be cremated or buried safely. I hated that.

Did John know them when they were alive? Was he working with their bodies only, or with their revenants as well? Clearly he was conducting some kind of necromancy-resurrection research, and it did something to the bodies.

What the fuck did you do to the bodies, John?

Oh no but he felt bad about it and he knew them by name and they were his mates and that means it was ok for him to experiment on their bodies - but not burying or cremating the bodies, now THAT would be going too far.

we had a pet cop, P—. She’d made detective by that point; was going on to big things in the MoD. Knew G— from way back, and G— and I were both hometown boys, so P— kept the heat down for us.

Pyrrha was a cop? Makes sense, I guess. And she'd been friends with Gideon for a really long time.

M— and A— could’ve walked into new jobs in a heartbeat but I was irradiated, I’d never work in the industry again. I sure as hell wouldn’t be allowed to work on anything else to do with you.

The word "irradiated" catches my attention here - metaphorically, the public "needed someone to blame" and John might have been the most high-profile person involved with this project - but, really, I think he's being quite literal here.

His research was quite literally radioactive.

And the last bit here implies that he was working on resurrection only to save Alecto. There was mention of cryotubes before - the other project, the one to save everyone else, wasn't a resurrection project, it was a preservation of life project. Maybe similar methods were used but ultimately for different goals.

Interesting.

Let's backtrack a second here. This here highly implies that the imminent crisis was not just caused by Alecto, but caused - or exacerbated - by Alecto being sick.

That shows everything in a slightly different light, huh? John wasn't just selfishly wanting Alecto to be well because he loved her, and damn everyone else - Alecto's presence, or her sickness, was imminently threatening humanity.

Wow.

Before I started reading this book, I had some theories about who - or what - Alecto was. Let's revisit for a second.

She could have been an alien, or a genetically modified human; this whole thing seems to suggest a volatile, radioactive nature about her, as if she'd been made only from radioactive isotopes of the atoms that make up a human body. The idea creeps me the fuck out. This, here, suggests that her fate was inextricably tied to humanity's as a whole, which suggests more than just a radioactive body.

She was definitely an experimental subject, that one is very clear now.

Augustine calls Alecto a "monster" only after her resurrection. Her pre-rez personality is... honest to a fault, sweet, a little bit stupid.

And that REALLY sounds like someone we've been following in this book so far. Until further notice, we're going with Nona Is Alecto (minus memories) theory. She's dreaming her memories.

Sorry, almost forgot we were still reading a chapter here with all the theorycrafting. This one has been extremely interesting and illuminating so far.

Interesting that he says their brains liquefied - not their entire bodies; it was an experiment very much focused on the brains. Lends credibility to my brains-as-river theory.

John hadn't done anything special at this point - other than research. And being, ah, irradiated.

Maybe not actually just nuclear radiation. Some kind of necromantic radiation. And touching the bodies, or being near them, somehow spared them from degrading instantly once their power was shut off.

Also - he's clearly talking to Alecto as you here; he's recollecting memories that include Alecto, and yet he addresses her as Harrowhark. And he's telling the story, she's not just reliving memories.

Alecto-as-Nona is super far away from John right now, as far as we know - unless John is emitting the blue light, but his presence doesn't normally hurt necromancers; it's far more likely that the blue light is a Resurrection Beast, or related to one at least. (Mercymorn described the RB attacking the Mithraeum as "Blue like Loveday's eyes"...)

Does he have a psychic connection to Alecto? Does he address her as Harrow because she looks like Harrow? In order to not invoke her name? Is this real? Is it a memory?

All of this is extremely curious, cannot wait to read more.

Of course genies get stuck in their lamps until they get a wish of freedom or have someone else take their place. Let’s say Genie!Yuu already solved that problem years ago but still has the ability to grant wishes because I said so.

Again, how they got rid of their lamp is entirely up for debate but now they just want to be normal and they just…can’t.

Anytime Grim wishes for tuna or some other food and somehow always magically comes true but Yuu will never admit it was them (they like seeing Grim excited)

I’ll just just straight into it

Chapter 4

The Great Seven have favorites and it is definitely not any version of Yuu, including this one. They got hypnotized, placed under house arrest, and stopped an uprising the entire winter break and didn’t even get their initial job done (thank Seven for the Ramshackle ghosts)

Jamil

He initially didn’t plan on using Genie!Yuu directly, only to get close to Crowley which honestly wouldn’t have done anything but when the fact that they were a genie slipped out, his plans changed.

He could just wish Kalim out of his position, out of the school, and then he’d be free! The problem was that you were free so you could deny his wish if he asked directly. So instead, he played the waiting game, prepared to hypnotize you until Azul and the tweels showed up and ruined everything.

After the overblot and his plan had been exposed, he expected no forgiveness from the Ramshackle residents but was surprised when you offered to grant a wish, but only one.

Of course, it was simple.

“I wish to be free.”

And with one flick of the wrist, it was granted….but nothing happened. Why did nothing happen? Were you lying? Is this some sick joke?!

“I already granted it. The reason nothing happened is because you already are free, you just have yet to find your own version of it.”

Kalim

How could anyone not love Kalim when they first meet him? Genie!Yuu certainly did although Grim had some other words. He was sweet and funny and the fact that he was this…mean towards his own dorm mates stunned you. Something was wrong.

You were glad that when you managed to get free, that you found the Octo trio, and that they helped you uncover the truth. You wanted to give Kalim a wish as an apology for everything that happened, but he refused.

“I don’t need any wishes, I have everything I could want, and that includes Jamil being safe and alive.”

Now that the sadness is out of the way…

Kalim has the mental age of a fork, Jamil is violent when need be, and you’re a powerful genie who can grant wishes and makes people’s lives hell!

That being said, you’re just a bunch of peas in a pod shut up Jamil you’re a part of this to and literally don’t leave each other alone.

They make sure no one takes advantage of the fact that Genie!Yuu is…well…a genie to get what they want.

You and Jamil make sure Kalim stays alive another day.

I have been terrified of an ask like this one gracing my inbox. (Still grateful). As much as I ponder the franchise I haven’t thought of much that would objectively move the plot forward. What I’ve been obsessing over are the cracks in explanation or how plain everyone is in a world filled with magic.

Firstly, thank you? One of the reasons I haven’t asked anything twice is because if anyone wants to answer the prompt they are free to (Please do, I beg y’all). And because I figure people have already suggested these ideas already but outright saying “Hey, I want you to answer” appears to work best.

I really like asking people things! But it takes a while when a person has no clear prompt for questions ("asks are open" is vague in this bottleneck of a fandom). Or I see content on their blog that already answer a question I might’ve asked/not involved with other fandoms on said blog.

Also like, the asks I’ve gotten before were objectively a challenge so I just thought that was the bar…

I will say right now I don’t like crossovers so I don’t have many ideas regarding that (Even with g1 monster high).

An episode in which Kitty either apologizes or doubles down on what she did in a Cat who Cried Wolf. (Let’s be clear, the consequences for Cerise would have been worse than death. I am still bitter) (and have also forgotten most of the books if this is ever rectified).

A few episodes where Apple and Raven don’t appear at all and also doesn’t introduce anyone new (they aren’t bad, I’m just bored of them appearing in everything).

Conversely, a few episodes where it focuses on the fact that allegedly Raven and Apple have a social circle outside of their room mate.

An episode focusing on the brothers Grimm. I noticed that after Spring Unsprung continuity from the specials doesn’t seem to matter to webisode continuity. So it probably won’t delve into the resentment Giles has built up from being trapped. The next best alternative is something involving Milton’s obsession with the unicorns. Maybe Milton lost a unicorn but is too embarrassed to announce it and sends Giles (or Giles notices on his own and helps anyway) to find it.

And an episode where Ginger has to reconstruct something on her gingerbread cottage and Cerise and Ramona are enlisted to help her.

A boys only episode. Idc what the plot is.

An episode where either Duchess or Ramona call out Poppy on her apparent Roybelness. (Ramona mostly, and then when Poppy reveals the sister secret Ramona is still annoyed, and points out that Grimm probably wouldn’t force them to switch places if he knew at this point (because you don't need two Rapunzel's, but you need at least one Badwolf). Cerise is the reluctant peace keeper)

Oh and also an episode where people eventually hear about the Red/Badwolf romance (friendship?) but mistakenly attribute it to Cerise and Ramona somehow. Obvious it gets cleared up by the end.

If nothing else a picnic date between Ramona and Red.

It seemed towards the end we would have gotten something focused on the hood-badwolf sisters. I'm not sure if the reveal of the secret and acceptance is what I want. I would want a special wholly dedicated to the reform school. Or at least, whatever Ramona did to her sent there.

Because it feels kinda annoying to shove the whole arc of acceptance into 45 minutes start to finish. And nothing in the show explicitly conflicts with Cerise revealing her secret to Hood Hollow (Unfairest of them All) which is objectively the bigger fish for them, compared to the populous of Ever After High, so, I'd be bored watching it. Besides even if in show canon Cerise didn't do what she did. It'd still be just the high school they focus on.

Given how the webisodes are formatted I would've preferred they dealt with the reveal that way (or like how they did THD). The tension between uploads would help.

I'll say this: When Feyre talks about Elain and Azriel, she suggests that Azriel might be what Elain needs, but she doesn't confirm that Elain is what Azriel needs. They are just two people who are close in proximity, tend to be comfortable around one another, and yes, there's mutual attraction. However, that's because Elain is described as objectively beautiful, and so is Azriel, so it would be weird if they weren’t attracted to one another - at least aesthetically.

Now, I can’t remember if I read it in the books or maybe saw a comment about it, but I know there’s one scene—I think it’s in A Court of Frost and Starlight—where Azriel tells Cassian to wait because Elain isn’t at the table. Like I said, I couldn’t remember if it’s in the books, briefly mentioned somewhere, or just an afterthought someone had.

But hear me out: Azriel’s attraction to Elain might be because she reminds him of his mother, and he’s confusing familial love with deep romantic love. Actually, I know he is because not only are they not mates, but they haven’t been around each other long enough to fall in love like that, especially with Elain being practically comatose during the first half of her experience in Prythian. Obviously, they converse and hang out, but I think their knowledge of one another is not as deep as either Azriel projects it to be or as some Elriel fans perceive it to be.

This doesn’t mean I don’t think they may get together, although I would hope not. Considering the situation, it’s just too messy. There’s so much at stake to want to try to figure things out with Elain right now. It’s not the right climate for this, and I hope Azriel wouldn’t pursue it. If everything we’ve learned about him is true, I don’t think he would do it anyway. Even though Rhys explains the complexities involving the mating bond with the Autumn Court and the potential for Azriel and Lucien to challenge each other, it’s too much to handle. We’ve just finished a war; Rhys literally died. The way people act like Rhys was unreasonable for saying that baffles me, but it makes perfect sense. There’s too much going on for Azriel to be messy, especially when Elain isn’t even his mate—she’s someone else’s mate.

If Sarah decides to explore their dynamic on that level, I think they might be each other’s lesson. In A Court of War and Ruin, Elain was still completely brokenhearted over losing her human love. To pivot to Azriel that quickly—come on, we’ve all done it. We pretend the rebound guy is some great love, and then when the actual love happens, we think, "What was that?"

Azriel has a terrible sense of self-worth, which is why he goes after unavailable females. He’ll never actually have to confront feeling worthy; he can just fulfill his prophecy that they won’t want him by choosing unavailable females. Putting Elain and Azriel together would stunt any sort of character growth. If Tamlin, for God's sake, gets character growth, then Elain and Azriel should too. Otherwise, it’s just fan service.

Now, when talking about Azriel and Gwyn, I noticed that they complement each other really well just in their abilities alone. Gwyn seems genuinely interested in getting to know Azriel—not just staring at him or sitting next to him in silence, but genuinely asking questions and waiting for his response to build on what she knows about him. One of them is humanizing him, and it’s not Elain. I think Azriel has spent most of his life, especially his childhood, being dehumanized. The way Gwyn chooses to humanize him is not a coincidence, and I don't think it’s unimportant. If it were, Sarah would not have written that bonus chapter. But she did write the bonus chapter and gave it to us to read.

I get confused when people pull up interviews and say that Elain and Azriel are endgame when Sarah has put in so many different things to suggest otherwise. I don’t know why people negate the bonus chapter or argue that Elain and Azriel should be together just because they kissed. Maybe they don’t finish it, because the ending of that chapter is far more important than a heated secret kiss in the hallway. It's similar to how in "A Court of Thorns and Roses," Rhys’s intervention ended up being way more important than Feyre and Tamlin’s heated secret kiss in the hallway.

Idk why it was like that, bcs he wasn’t really nice to me at the beginning, as you know. But I knew he loved me. I think he just couldn't handle his feelings/emotions for me really well in the past. And if I'm honest, I wasn't easy too. I was a challenge for him. Not just for him. For my family too. It was an intense time and Nico was constantly under enormous pressure because of soccer. I just didn’t mention it so often back then. I believe that all those factors played a part and triggered his anger. It was too much for him. I was too much for him. And there was also this thing with his dad, who was a total ass. This man made Nico so MAD, that he didn’t like my Dad either, and so it came to all those probs with my family too.

Also, his ex showed up! I couldn’t stand her whole fake pity show. And it hurt me like hell to see her & Nico together. I swear, Philip and Natasha were NOTHING compared to that! I ran away as usual. But I’ll tell you next time.

Work you are most proud of (and why): ‘tis the damn season because I have always said that there was absolutely no way I could write an advent fic day by day. And yet, when Nov 30th came around and I only had two chapters, my fomo won over my fear of failure and I thought I’d give it a try, because the worst that would happen is that I wouldn’t finish it, which would’ve been fine! But then with the help of everyone who read along, I actually did it! 

A favorite excerpt of your writing: unlike most years, when I quickly scrolled through my works, nothing specific jumped out, so I’ll just say that I really liked how ch 6 rolled into ch 7 in ‘tis the damn season!

A time when writing was really, really hard: oh boy. Okay. so if you go back and read my 2022 recap, and 2021, you’ll see that writing has consistently been hard for me for a few years. So, this year I told myself not to worry about it, that I could not write a single thing and not feel bad about it. I didn’t do a ton of writing this year, but having the internal pressure off sure helped. Even though I really miss the way it used to be. 

A scene or character you wrote that surprised you: I’ll say Zayn in ‘tis the damn season, because I didn’t have a role for her when I started, and I really liked her as minor threat slash Louis’ bff and sometimes hookup. I want someone to write a story in her pov. lmaoooo How did you grow as a writer this year: I really tried to get rid of my perfectionist tendencies and tried to write without putting pressure on myself. 

How do you hope to grow next year: i dont even know, tbh. I’ll be very happy if I match my 2023 fic count. 

Who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer or beta or cheerleader or muse etc etc): I adore everything that @disgruntledkittenface put out this year. The way she keeps pushing herself is really inspiring.

Anything from your real life show up in your writing this year: ummm, I guess the ‘moving back home thing’... idk. Nothing i wrote this year hit particularly close to home.

It will forever rub me the wrong way how Moth Flight implemented the "Medicine cats shall not take a mate nor have kits" rule into the Medicine Cat code. Especially given that her specific set of circumstances was both tragic and unique.

Moth Flight was young when she took Micah as a mate. When he died, she was left to raise their four kits alone while juggling the duties of a medicine cat. Not to mention that this was during a time where knowledge about herbs was scant and where apprentices weren't really a thing. Not yet.

Although in the end, Moth Flight became overwhelmed and made the decision to give up Spider Paw, Bubbling Stream, Honey Pelt, and Blue Whisker, her experiences being a young mother should not have meant that no medicine cat after her should have been robbed of the opportunity to raise a family while healing their Clanmates.

When it comes to cats like Yellowfang and Leafpool, who had cats in their lives who would've helped care for their children, or cats like Alderheart, Jayfeather, and Spottedleaf, who seemed responsible enough to be able to balance love and duty, is this really a fair thing to impose onto medicine cats?

Should wanting to heal your Clanmates and commune with StarClan strip you of your right to find love and raise a family?

I think a better situation that would've called for the implementation of this restriction into the medicine cat code is if a medicine cat chose their mate and/or children over their Clanmate, resulting in said Clanmate's death. A death that would've been prevented had the medicine cat remained impartial.

Adding on, Moth Flight did not have a nursery system nor an additional qualified medicine cat for support during this time. Nowadays the nursery system can either give you a permaqueen or the means for someone else to step in and help look after your kits whether it be another queen or if needs be an elder or a clanmate who has experience raising kits that wouldn’t mind, maybe a parent who isn’t running the clan like Wind and Gorse were?

Also it’s a weird rule because medicine cats do usually have siblings and parents to care about, why would one of those cause your judgement to be more clouded than children or a mate? I feel like I’m most cases a medicine cat wouldn’t look at their mum bleeding out and have the same emotional reaction as they would for most their clanmates. Jayfeather literally stops visiting the Moonpool for a while over Leafpool’s death and mixes up herbs which he never does, so you can’t try and pretend that only kits and mates have the potential to produce a significant emotional response in a cat if something were to happen to them Erins.

I feel like they should have kept it similar to the original religious celibacy thing they were going for rather than stretch out the explanation. Until Moth Flight’s Vision it just seemed a case of them wanting to dedicate as much as they could to StarClan and healing so they forfeit certain paths that other cats take for granted in order to leave as much time in their minds and souls for StarClan as possible. To me that does make more sense than hinging everything on the very first medicine cat’s exceptional and unfortunate experience.

So here’s my entire thought process on the newest Crescent City book and kinda the series as a whole.

Bryce’s character was kind of unbearable? Like I don’t dislike and at the beginning of the book I understand her not trusting the IC. Like I know every loves them and stuff but like they’re not the good guys. The Archeron sisters are the only ones who actually care about others; the rest literally only care about themselves and the people of Velaris, with the exception of Cassian who also cares about the Illyrians. But yeah, the IC aren’t the good guys and Rhys would have probably just killed her if she had told them the truth at the very start. But her entire anti-fae thing was horrible. Like girl you hate how they are so just change it? They’ve had a bigoted asshole as their leader for a billion years of course they’re following his lead? You now have the power and authority to change it so do it? Also the further I got into the book the happier I was that Aelin wasn’t showing up because you can’t tell me that Aelin, who loves the fae, would have been cool with Bryce the second she started spewing how much she hates the fae. Also her bitching about Hunt not acting like he wanted to be there. Like bitch he doesn’t? He said multiple times in the last book that he doesn’t want anything to do with it but then he went along with it, for her, and ended up being tortured for it. Like I wouldn’t want to be there either. I’m very on the fence with her just in general because she comes up with some really smart plans but she’s honestly just one of the dumbest characters like how? Like in the second book when she went around throwing around the whole Princess Bryce Danaan and then was surprised when she was actually expected to abide by the responsibilities that having that title comes with? And that her friend was angry when all of her hard work was thrown away because her royal friend got her a promotion by waving around her royal status? like i just feel like this series has the actual dumbest characters. Access to modern stuff has killed their braincells.

Also, do I think Rhys was justified in his anger? Yes. Do I think he overreacted? Also yes. I understand that he has a mate, and a child, and they’re at peace (except not really because they still have Koschei to deal with) but he needs to trust Nesta more. Like she made a gamble and it worked out. He could have waited until afterwards to be mad about it if it didn’t work out. Besides, the Dread Trove is hers. It answers to her so she can do what she pleases with it. “Oh she sent it into the world of their enemies” as opposed to what? Keeping it in their world where *gasp* they still have enemies? Like calm tf down. Even if the Asteri had gone over, Rhysand- the most powerful high lord in history- and Nesta- lady death who wields a sword that can kill the inkillable- would have been able to handle it. Besides, Feyre would have made the same choice. You know why? Because she’s always made the choice to help others. And if it had been Feyre making that choice then Rhys would have been fine with it.

Also, I feel like these last two books were supposed to make us feel bad for Tharion but it didnt? like the dude wanted to be a fuckboy and betrothed himself to a princess just so he could take her virginity and then we're supposed to feel bad for him because he's expected to uphold his end of the arrangement? like no

Also i feel like the whole lost Fendyr heir was pointless. like it just didnt do anything? we're intoduced to this character just so she can be killed off before we're even half way through the book and then the rest of the book was Ithan just running in circle trying to fix it but then just being like well that didnt work lets try something else. like Sarah could have done something else for his character that led to him being prime.

Lidia, of course, was amazing. Everything with her was fantastic and she was honestly my favorite part of the book. I was overjoyed when it was revealed that she's a descendant of Brannon's and that shes a distant relative to Aelin (Dorian too).
