A must-read article for anyone looking to break into freelance writing, but do not currently have a portfolio. Meg Stewart explains how this can be built, often by examining your previous writing experience. Setting up a website or using a portfolio service, along with a customised domain name, is less costly than before. In addition, you need around 3-4 high quality articles to get started, which is definitely doable. As someone who has been stalling on the website front for years and years, I was pleased to read this article!

Reflection on the Howard University State of the University Address
On January 18th 2017 I attended the Howard University State of the University Address. This event is attended by the biggest student leaders on campus. I am the current Freshman COAS Council Vice President and as a student leader I am required to attend. As a Political Science & Philosophy double major this event ties in perfectly with not only my major but especially in this time where we need to look to the future for answers (as opposed to the current). Our Howard University Student Association (HUSA) President Allyson Carpenter addressed the University along with the HUSA Senate. President Carpenter for the most part covered the accomplishments of Student Government since her election back in May. Carpenter talks about the new Freedom of Information acts which allows for transparency within Student Government and student leadership affairs. She also discussed the recent rewriting of the HUSA constitution which made visitation a right for all students that live on campus. I personally think that the recent events with Drew hall and the taking of their visitation shows the University’s lack of respect for student government. Anyways, Carpenter then looked at the failures of the administration thus far. The lack of a free metro card for all undergraduate students, the many broken emergency Blue lights, and WiFi access to printers for students are a few of the issues that she highlights and provides hopeful explanation or solution to these issues. In my opinion going to this event showed me what politics in any democratic society looks like. The body language of the senate, to the tone of which Carpenter told me a lot about politics today as well as the political climate here at Howard. This event really helped me to understand that politics is much more that just the words being spoken but rather what is going on behind the words in between the words. Throughout the address the absence of certain senators and the Senators disinterest in what Carpenter had to say shows the Senate’s dissonance between them and the executive branch of HUSA. As a political Scientist and philosopher it is important to observe the behaviors of people outside of intentions or intended actions to get a more honest view or picture of the politics of what is going on outside of what is being said or written.

What is writing?
Writing is a method of representing language in visual or tactile form. Writing systems use sets of symbols to represent the sounds of speech, and may also have symbols for such things as punctuation and numerals.

Gonna: A #Poem about the Attitude of Someone Who's Always Gonna Do It Someday. #poem #poetry #newpoem #yqr #yxe #writing #amwriting #freelancewriter #writingportfolio #poetsoftwitter #saskatchewan #sk #gonna #newpoetry #casualpoetry
I’m gonna, you’ll see. That’s all that I’m gonna, because gonna is easy.
I don’t need to be bogged down by goals, I just need a dream, I don’t need the sum of a whole, I just need parts of a ream.
Why can’t the haters appreciate what I’m gonna do? Why are they so selfish to only care about what I’ve done? Why can’t they look to the future, to see my time in the sun?
You’re gonna be sorry that…

Building Your Writing Portfolio: Tips and Ideas
Building Your Writing Portfolio: Tips and Ideas
Having a writing portfolio is essential when being a writer, especially when you enjoy writing in various mediums like myself. Since I like to write novels, short stories, and creative non-fiction, a writing portfolio is something I have been building up for years. If you don’t really know, a writing portfolio is a collection of work you have written (published or unpublished) that you have at…

Cloud Nothings - Life Without Sound.
Ever since I discovered “Attack On Memory” (2013), I have been an avid Cloud Nothings fan: I love bands that challenge themselves, experimenting with new ideas on every album they release, while retaining their personality.
Dylan Baldi, the mastermind behind the project, steered the sound of the group towards different directions, from the fuzzy lo-fi and dream-pop vibes of the early releases, to the bone-dry angst of “Attack On Memory” and the urgency of “Here and Nowhere Else”.
“Life Without Sound” is yet another challenge for the band, and another reiteration of their music. The recording features the band’s most polished tracks to date, and while I am a big fan of the raw, gritty recordings that have grown to become a synonym with Cloud Nothings, it is interesting to experience the band’s footprint under a different approach to production. There are some notable changes: the vocals are smooth and clear, with plenty of harmonies throughout the record. Dylan Baldi explores his lower range more often, as the average tempo of the songs is also somewhat more contemplative, making for an interesting setting: this might be one of the most uplifting Cloud Nothing releases, yet one of the most melancholic, with lyrical themes often dealing with topics of reflections - looking back on the past and looking forward to the future, in search of a new attitude towards things.
