Take a look at these two photos. These were what were happening in RWBY V8′s second to last episode.
Now then...take a look at these edited ones.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Memeable , isn’t it? Especially if you remove all context. Ruby in this episode was focusing on Cinder, gathering up mental focus on what makes life Sacred in order to use her silver eyes against Salem’s Maiden.
Neo? Was trying to attack Ruby from Behind.
Yang? Intercepted Neo  by pushing Ruby out of the way, and using her own body to shield her sister, due to Neo being an extremely fast opponent, faster than Yang.
RWDE and R/RWBYCritics took advantage of the facial expressions to manipulate audiences into believing that Ruby ONLY made those expressions after Yang fell. In order to make it look like Ruby was apathetic.
You wanna see Ruby’s facial expressions? HERE
Tumblr media
A sister horrified at losing her sibling. The image that every single RWBY Critic will hide from you, because showing this image provides context, showing this image showed that Ruby cared, showing this image, means that the criticism is based on lying.
When your criticism revolves around editing images to provide an out of context take on the situation, your critique should lose all validity, and be classified as bad-faith criticism.
Sadly, these days, Criticism is no longer about providing context, and more about lying. Its about editing things to be taken out of context. The reason people hate on V8 is due to people literally lying about what happens.
What makes this worse is that lies spread like wildfire, are harder to debunk, and the more people that repeated said lies, the more people are willing to take lies as truth over the actual truth.
And this, sadly, is part of the reason why Media Literacy is dead. Because truth doesn’t matter anymore...simply what people want to be the truth or what people want their take on the truth to be.

Friendly reminder to watch Hypeathon’s video essay on YouTube: What Exactly Was Monty Oum’s Vision for RWBY
No bullshit. No Monty worship or any unchecked biases in analyzing RWBY and what the creator wanted out of it. It’s informative, not going for cheap laughs or memes. Just the car facts along with other things that the HTDM will “conveniently” overlook.
For anyone buying what Moist is selling, I have a more heathy alternative.

Miles fucking Luna just admitted on Cameo bumbleby was made canon soley because of its popularity with shippers and "would have toned down the Black Sun moments" had they known beforehand! Ais, please bully this beta looking crackhead on Twitter for me because I don't have an account and I refuse to get one
i watched the video & 1. why does he look like that & 2. why is he so goddamn close to the camera. back tf up on this cameo you've owed someone for ages, maybe try & be a little professional & not look like you're recording this on your smoke break.
it's also interesting he doesn't mention why he had to turn cameo off for a bit when some of the last cameos he had included misusing the word genocide over a fictional character & then pimping out his own self insert as "bisexual" & having to walk it back when people, desperate for queer mlm representation in this homophobic ass show, were wondering if it was actually going to be canon when. nah. he just said it for money :))
"you asked if there was any behind the scenes info for bumblby, which is hard cause i don't think there's much to talk about" for a ship you've apparently had in the works for 10 years? since the beginning? kept so under wraps? whatever, miles.
ohhh my god miles bringing up that blake is the bisexual queen & "everyone wants to date her" as if he wasn't disgustingly biphobic & joked about getting off to women kissing in front of him as well as asking if bisexual women were "truly bisexual" or just "sipped from the fur cup" with his best friend who sexually harasses women.
it's also weird that this essentially confirms the reason she has the "blake harem" is because she's bisexual, as well as being "cute & pretty." which. fall into a hole, luna, you ugly fuck.
also positing sun & blake on their faunus relationship as the much smaller one while being deluded there was anything to yang & blake over the "much longer relationship" besides a shit ton of shared trauma & no in depth discussions, no romantic connection, nothing until the last two volumes where they were like "welp, better get this yuri train on the road" & invented moments for them out of nowhere that were out of character & did a disservice to their actual characters.
"they're finally in a place where they can admit their feelings to one another" but why? nothing has changed between them, they've actively ignored or pushed aside the so called "baggage & drama" that miles described them going through & in this volume they were essentially made by the environment to confess their feelings, not through any genuine connection. there was no reason that this confession couldn't have happened in all the life threatening situations last volume & i would've been spared yang fetishizing blake's racial features.
overall: this cameo just confirms the worst of what we knew about crwby in regards to sun / blake / yang. whatever was popular was going to be canon, they didn't care or understand their characters motivations & there is so much biphobia in their treatment of their main bisexual character in regards to both her love life & the confirmation of it only coming in a wlw relationship, downplaying all sides of her attraction.
they could've had blake be confirmed bisexual from day one. they could've done more with blake & yang in the early volumes instead of borderline pimping her out to the cast to have a harem because of said bisexuality & her "cuteness" when in what way does that fit the reserved & cautious blake we know?
this is five minutes of my time i'll never get back & i wish miles a very happy get [redacted] because your shitty voice sounds like razor blades in my ear, you unwashed biphobic fuck.

What's extremely frustrating in the current writing for the main girls, but especially Yang, is the same pitfall in character writing that we've been seeing in recent years. And that's the inherent hatred and devaluation of femininity and the strength that can be found in more traditionally feminine traits.
I see a lot of people going "ugh strong female characters are so lame and Mary Sue and all they do is push the feminist agenda", and I'm just like, that's not true??? Because nothing about this archetype is feminist at all, it's actually misogynistic as hell.
By trying to write a "strong female character", the authors often forget the fact that these characters will still have very feminine ideas and traits to them, and that's not a bad thing. Being traditionally feminine isn't a bad thing, being emotional isn't a bad thing, being feminine period isn't a bad thing at all.
But the problem comes when everyone, including the audience, condemns those traits because they're not strong enough in comparison to more traditionally masculine traits, which includes punch stuff and be cool.
That's where the current writing for Yang fell so short: CRWBY is erasing her femininity and condemning all of it as weak, therefore she is weak and wouldn't be the "cool brawler" of team RWBY, even though that's bullshit. Yang in the earlier volumes was great because she was allowed to be girly while still kick ass, she didn't need to compromise being a girly party gal in order to be considered strong. If anything, Yang embraced her femininity and it was fantastic.
But now? She doesn't have any of those traits anymore because they're considered too feminine for a tough female character like her. And it cost so much of Yang's personality and enjoyable traits; she's no longer caring to her sister, she's not longer compassionately to anyone but Blake, she's not compelling at all, because her emotions aren't considered or expressed freely if it's not anger.
And where did all of those feminine traits gone to? They went to Blake, who is now reduced to a sniveling, shaking weakling who can't take care of herself without her strong, "manly" girlfriend next to her.
RT's writing is incredibly misogynistic, because they view femininity with weakness instead of exploring the strengths that comes with being feminine. Masculinity, especially toxic masculinity, is still the main factor of character writing in this show, and it sucks

One of the things you have to understand about me is that if a character has one of these things, they are automatically my favourite and I love them:
- Shaggy ass hair, looks like a racoon nests in it
-Eyes that glow when they use their power
-SCARS that glow when they use their power
-Is just a dickhead

Because rep is awesome and literally no-one can stop me, consider the following - Yang with a stutter.
After the Fall of Beacon and losing her arm, Yang develops a speech impediment as a result of the physical and mental trauma she endured. It’s an incredibly touchy subject with her and she won’t even acknowledge that she has difficulty saying certain letters or forming particular sounds for months after moving back to Patch. Some days are better than others when it comes to her speech, but it’s only after she begins training with Tai again that Yang starts confronting that part of herself as well.
Even with years of fluency practice and speech therapy, there’s still no definite way to completely stop stuttering, only little tricks and tactics to avoid continually locking yourself into a verbal loop of being unable to get so much as a single word out. Yang only has so much time before she has to leave home and reunite with her team, and it’s easily one of the things she’s worried about most. She knows they’re her friends, her teammates, but what will they think of her? Will they think she can’t handle herself anymore? That she’s lost her edge or isn’t as strong as she was? Worse yet, what if they’re right?
Of course, none of that happens. Yang’s still a complete and total badass that does whatever she sets her mind to, even if she has to occasionally pause and phrase or enunciate her words more carefully when she speaks. Weiss and Ruby are happy just to see Yang again, the members of JNR too, and when the whole team reunites after saving Haven? It’s a major weight off Yang’s chest knowing that the people she cares about all safe.
Where her stutter was once this indescribable thing hanging over her, now it’s something that Yang can acknowledge and talk about with her friends. Just like her the trauma of having lost a limb and witnessing the destruction of Beacon, it’s something that’s a part of her now but that she can name and address so as to give herself power over it. It’s something that no longer feels indomitable and Yang learns that those who truly care will always listen to her. No matter what.

This was by Barbara Dunkelman in response to RWDE, aka the RWBY Haters who call themselves “Critics” but launch bad-faith criticism and nothing else.
People have forgotten what criticism is. People have forgotten what media literacy is. People have forgotten what it means to “criticize from a place of love” If you don’t have something nice to say? You’re not being a fan, You’re just hate-watching. If you’re willing to defend a show against bad-faith criticism?  That’s NOT toxic positivity. That’s called being a fan. Because what type of fan trash-talks a show, bad-mouths it, trashes the defenders of it, and tries to tell people to stop watching a 9-season show after the 3rd season?

White girl with piss-poor Chinese name formation and pronunciation, with a tan-skinned aussie dad with the same issues and a Celtic-named mother that's dripped with orientalism aside, how is Yang dripping with orientalism herself?
that's really just it is that yang suffers being the biproduct of raven's orientalism & absolutely no genuine thought being put into taiyang being asian himself beyond a name.
one thing i find somewhat annoying is that any merch for yang featuring an asian language is in japanese, not chinese. we don't even know the characters for her name so actually pinning down a concrete meaning is impossible, her name itself doesn't follow the naming conventions — it should be 2 - 1, not 1 -2 & chinese surnames are not hyphenated for this reason — & overall she just. has very little beyond this name to show that she is meant to be in any way chinese.
which is frustrating because all the orientalism regarding yang & other "asian" characters on the show will inevitably lead to some rwby ghoul unearthing monty's dead body as a defense to it: as if racism against one's own is not something that happens & that for a majority of this show now it has been written & produced by white creators.
i would love for yang to have more chinese influence to her design & character: i love when i see it in fanart! but as is, if you showed anyone this character without her name & asked them what race she was with her blonde hair, light eyes & deathly white skin tone — asian is not the one they're going to say.

Summary:
Xiao Bailong, the third prince of the Dragon King of the West Sea, got married to Princess Wan Sheng, the daughter of the Wan Sheng Dragon King in Bibo Pond of Luanshi Mountain. That night, Xiao Bai Long found out that Nine-Headed Insect was having an affair with his wife. He got angry and got into a fight, and accidentally set fire to the pearl that was rewarded by the Jade Emperor. The matter reached heaven, and Little White Dragon, who was about to be beheaded, was spared the death penalty by the intercession of Guanyin Bodhisattva.
The Bodhisattva ordered him to wait at the Yingchou Stream of Snake Pan Mountain for Tang Xuanzang, a monk from the Tang Dynasty who went to the West to obtain Buddhist scriptures. He waited for more than ten years. One day, a young monk Yide from afar was ordered by the abbot of Dalin Temple to deliver the relics of a senior monk from the local temple after his death. He was stopped by a clever ghost and a ghost took away the relic. At this time, Xiao Bailong was passing by and rescued the little monk. When the Nine-Headed Insect and Princess Wan Sheng found out, they were very angry and planned to harm Xiao Bailong and force him to leave the temple. In this way, Princess Wan Sheng sent her personal maid to confuse the little monk and harass Xiao Bailong. She also sent clever ghosts and demons to the temple many times to poison and steal treasures, but they failed.
