By his own admission, Chillchuck hasn't seen his kid in several years, is that not what a deadbeat is? He also admitted to being a Nad husband.
oh boy i finally get to explain this! also did you stop after volume 7 or something? you wouldn't send an ask like this without knowing all the canon info, right? chilchuck has three kids, not one. he only says it's one at the end of volume 7, which sounds like the conversation you're referencing.
anyway--chilchuck's daughters are all adults by half-foot standards. they do not rely on him for finances or care. based on the way he tells the story about his wife leaving, this may have been the case even before they were fully grown, but he doesn't specify. either way not being immediately in their lives is not neglecting them, and "deadbeat dad" specifically refers to not providing financial aid to estranged offspring who need it.
(chapter 56)
but let's also explore the way the fandom tends to assume he no longer cares about them or has any contact with them, shall we?
he is still in contact with them. they write him letters and one of them sent along the neckwarmer he wears (i feel like it was flertom, but i might be remembering fanon). there are also two canon instances of him being back in their lives after the end of the story (including bringing them to met his friends)
(chapter 56 again)
(ryoko kui illustration celebrating the finale of the manga)
and finally, this man talks about his kids very fondly even during canon. he is still invested in them and knows them as people, even though they're adults.
(one of chilchuck's 2 bonus comics in the adventurer's guide; the second instance of him being present in their lives post-canon is from the complete edition but i don't have it on hand)
so no, he's not a deadbeat. and based on the way you phrased your ask...
edit: BAD? DID YOU MEAN BAD HUSBAND?
THE THING HE WAS LYING ABOUT?

idrc what your personal stances on plurality is as long as youre respectful and not hateful/harassing others but you cant go on saying some shit abt this towards endogenic and mixed origin systems. Like you really cant claim youre all for mental health advocacy and call people "schizos" for having experiences you dont agree with (even though theres definite proof of their existances being real. look into astraea's web and lived experiences of non disordered plurals in early 2000's spaces i beg of you this isnt a new concept.)
Also before yall get on my ass yes I know in aspen's description they say theyre schizophrenic but by calling others schizo in a derogatory and insulting way you are being so fucking ableist. Just cus you are schizospec doesnt mean you can throw around these fucking words towards others. I hate involving in syscourse but theres no way in HELL you should be getting away with this.
again, idrc what your stances are as long as youre being respectful, anyone can interact with this post but just know that if you say this ableist shit (calling endogenics schizo, delusional, etc) to justify your stances, congratulations, you fucking suck!

honestly i don't think any jason after his death seems to really match the one before it? hard to say he's in character at any point then. they might as well have introduced some new guy and told his story through flashbacks. at least the new guy would presumably have someone that cared enough about their oc to give them consistency
can i say something controversial. i disagree with this
i think you have a great point about how robin jason is a lot different than red hood jason, bc a lot of robin stories have him as just an average happy kid so the whiplash from barr tec jason -> utrh jason is insane
on the other hand,, that adds to it for me. this was not winick's intention but i love the idea that jason was just a happy robin that loved his dad & loved being robin then immediately gets crushed because he was living his happy life and thought everything was great, then went through an insane trauma and realized that everything was not as great as he thought so he decided to start killing people. in my head theres a great narrative where he basically becomes unrecognizable to who he was before because thats how bad his death & resurrection fucked him up
but also heres where im gonna get even more controversial! i dont think hes that different!
i loooove barr tec but i think barr has specifically said that he wanted to be writing dick so he just pretended he was. a lot of robin jason writers didnt bother to give him any character of his own, he was just dick 2.0 until starlin
i dont love how starlin wrote jason because his only reason for writing jason like that was that he hated him and wanted to kill him. but. starlin's jason was so distinct from dick that its one of the only times that it feels like jason. honestly if you take early post-crisis robin jason and compare it to starlin jason, its not that different. hes a little aggressive & angry but does it for a good reason, he fights with batman and can be impulsive but has strong morals even if his morals arent always what batman believes, which is very similar to who he was when he first became robin post-crisis
and because starlin jason is one of the only times that jason is distinct from dick (not to mention, in terms of general robin jason knowledge, most of jason's iconic robin stories come from starlin), it makes sense that that version of jason was used in utrh. and the version of jason that had empathy for victims to the point that he wanted to kill the perpetrators makes so much sense for red hood jason. he believed that the best way to get vengeance for the victims was to kill the person who did it, which is why he was so mad that bruce wouldnt do that for him after he died
in my mind there is a very clear progression from the version of jason that died and the version that comes back to life. he had a lot of empathy for the victims when he was robin (to the point that bruce told him that he should sit out the garzonas case bc he got too emotionally invested in it) so it makes sense that when he is the victim of a gruesome murder from someone like the joker, who has killed and done horrible things and isnt going to stop, that he would be extremely pissed that bruce wouldnt let his morals go just to kill the person that killed jason, since thats what jason, even as robin, believed was the best way to get vengeance for the victims

havent seen this take in a while thankfully but it popped up in my head and i wanna post this anyways. i think everyone who talks about how siffrin “got off too easy” at the end of isat and his friends should have abandoned him should go read warrior cats if they want an example of a character using their trauma as their god-given jailbreak card to treat their family and peers (a good amount of whom who were completely innocent) like dogshit, and who faces zero consequences from the narrative for it (and in fact bends over to blame their peers). like read all the shit jayfeather does while the narrative sobs over how tragic but awesome and quirky he is and then look me in the eye and tell me siffrin’s ending was poorly written.

do other black canvases think mochi is hot?? i want mochi to have people crushing on her lime needs to be humbled a wee bit 🙏
AN EXCELLENT QUESTION: YES THEY DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and its such a shock to mochi!!!!!!!!!!!! shes so used to essentially being ignored and completely forgets that it has no effect on them!!!!!
i have an episode idea where post-timeskip, mochi goes and visits the main headquarters building of the m-34th (location name pending) under the guise of "Lime left his sword thing at home/forgot his lunch/something" in order to investigate and scope out the area!!! no witch has had any excuse to do this ever!! and at that point the m-34th dont know who tf she is, only that she shows up to the front gate with one of their weapons saying "Uh...is Lime here? He forgot this thing this morning and I thought it might be important so I came to drop it off..."
and the front guards just look her up and down for a second (with an expression mochi doesnt recognize) and gets on the comm to be like "Hey uhh is Goldwood in the building? There's a cute girl out here with his sword." and gives her a little wink, personally escorts her in, gives her a lot of "Hey, you know...that Goldwood is kind of a casanova. You shouldn't get too involved with him." and "You know if you're not doing anything later...maybe wanna grab a bite to eat? My treat?" and the whole time shes FLUSTERED she doesnt know how to react to these things... just "Oh no hes not like that!" and "Oh- uh- maybe!"
after that incident lime doesnt hear the end of it...NUMEROUS other officers being like "Hey are you actually going out with that girl?" and "Have you guys broken up yet? I want first dibs." and lime is absolutely sick every time they bring it up
(very funny though when she goes, some of them really take a long look at her before finally going "Ah! I remember where I've seen you. You're the girl Goldwood has pictures of in his locker--" and limes like "OKAY LETS GO TALK OUTSIDE MOCH OKAY BYE GUYS GOTTA GO--")
(also remember that grand capitol ball episode? where mochi uses the mob spell so she blends into the party and doesnt stand out? she has a straight up cinderella moment where shes walking down the corridor and at least half the m-34th guards are just staring at her...pretty lady)

I think instead of acting cool because he "did what had to be done" (get confronted backstage over talking shit, not very active , not very epic) Jack Perry should have a devious temptress gimmick where he says he drives men insane, like to violence but also sexually.

new rgg fans will never know what they missed back in ye olden days of the fandom (like, 2019), doubly so now that scott strichart's deleted his twitter and jon riesenbach's privated. twitter was so fucking fun and then whatever-the-hell at sega of america happened and caused a fucking snowball effect and now we have shitass localization and resulting discourse that makes every release nigh unbearable, misinformation, confusion, people complaining about "bad writing/mischaracterization" not realizing it's because of the shitass english loc, i'm sitting here like jesus christ these loc bitches massacred saejima's character voice, people will never see him as he was intended, as original yakuza 5 localization Correctly painted him, and now they're coming for kiryu. god help us. we used to be a proper fandom. before everyone was subjected to the remastered localizations and shaky eng characterization. no one had even played yakuza 3-5, people still called morning glory "sunshine" orphanage, kiryu was our only protagonist and people still called him "boring", it was beautiful...
anyway gaiden uses affective instead of effective because the current localization team is full of careless dumbasses who don't give a fuck about ensuring they're using correct english grammar and this is not an isolated incident

i love v9s message. “you are enough.” you are enough. oh, unless you’re disabled. oh, unless you’re a minority. oh, unless you’re traumatized and you show it negatively. oh, unless you’re in a bad mental spot and you show it negatively. you are enough, unless you’re not palatable enough. then you’d better take your life and hope some deus ex machina fixes you so you don’t have problems anymore. can you tell how much I love this volume guys?? THIS WAS A GREAT VOLUME TO AIR WHILE MY MENTAL HEALTH WAS AT ITS WORST 😁😁😁😁

So I don't know if it was ever revealed how Duncan felt when we killed Malistaire all three times but I'm wondering if maybe some part of him could hate us for that too. Like you hear that and you go "but why. Malistaire was terrible and even Duncan knew that(?). Why would he hate you for getting rid of him."
But like I think it's so....... interesting in a very, very, very sad way how Duncan so easily latches onto anyone who directly feeds into his delusions of grandeur. And that's no fault of his own that he was manipulated by the nasty Schism but when you think about how desperately clung to the idea that Malistaire, easily one of the greatest necromancers any of us had ever heard of (at that time), somehow actually recognized Duncan's talents (even when canon supports that Duncan wasn't all that talented, at least no more than the next necromancer) and then praised him for it so often that Duncan believed that he would be the next Death Professor is. I mean ☹️
So like with that mindset I unfortunately feel like it would be quite easy to twist even Malistaire's death as something that's horrible and awful and all our fault. ESPECIALLY if the Schism was feeding into Duncan's already broken mind and shattered ego and was constantly telling him that everything bad that ever happened to him ever in his life was Our Fault. That's like a realistic conclusion that someone like Duncan could come to
And like, at this point in time, are Malistaire's crimes even a factor in how he thinks????? Was Duncan ever able to separate Malistaire's talent and skills and prowess from the terrible and awful things he did? If Duncan wasn't able to consciously tell that distinction in the first place I can't imagine it would be any better during the years he was being manipulated and isolated and lied to
Like in Duncan's mind it probably isn't, "maybe I shouldn't idolize a national criminal, or idolize anyone at all for that matter, and aspire to be like someone so harmful when I can recognize my own talent and build from there" it's probably more like, "you (the wizard) permanently got rid of a brilliant mind, an innocent person who just made a few mistakes, and someone who believed in me no matter what just so that you could be the better than me and loved by everyone else" and that's! very sad actually!
