Oh hey, I have an AU, I forgot about that (lie)

I've had a similar idea in my head for a month now. It wasn't possible to do it last month, but no problem. May would make more sense. I did something with this little guy for 414 last year, and I wanted to do something with him again. April 14th of this year would not be possible, but May 14th or 15th? Oh yes. These dates are better because it was between these two (actually it was the 14th I think, but I consider both dates) days that I created this guy above! Consider this drawing a celebration made for…well, me. Of course, he wasn't created with the design above in mind. His original, main design is quite different from this alternative (and less original) iteration. The drawing above shows his current situation in the "current" moments of the RTTS AU.

His creation, which dates back to 2020, was the result of some Bendy-related thoughts of mine intersecting on the day. These being about new things in canon lore that came out at the time (plus speculation about this new information), a theory that at the time I started to understand better (which maybe based on the drawing, you probably know which theory I'm talking about ) and a funny bug found in one of the games (do you remember Ghost Bendy by any chance?) And then,boom. I created Atlas. I remember at the time I was thinking of other names for him because Atlas was just a codename that I had in mind to refer to him while I thought of a definitive name for the guy. But the codename ended up sticking. Plus, Atlas is a cool name and I wanted to give an OC that name.

Even though some details changed over time, I think I eventually managed to solidify his place in the AU. Not that his story is 100% thought out and completed. Hell, my AUs that I have are still not 100% thought out either, so what to expect from their characters. But I think that, currently, I have at least decided on the general idea of his place and purpose in RTTS, and I am happy with what I have come up with.

I don't know when the next time will be that I will show him again. In general, showing things from my AUs is not and probably will never be my strong point lol. But I'd like to draw him again eventually. So uhhhhhhhhhhh, one day. When that "one day" will be, it's up to you to decide

Are the robot uniforms for some sort of job, or do they wear them bc they're mandatory robots (or some other secret third thing)? Is wearing them enforced by the Doctors or someone/something else? What's the relationship between robots and doctors? O _ o

YES THANK YOU FOR ASKING AAA I LOVE BEING ENABLED

Ok! So, the bots and (most) of the scientists are actually all part of a lab made specifically to research and house robots that show signs of sentience. The lab was founded by Jody after they created Ticki and he started to show signs of sentience. It’s basically a safe haven for sentient bots, who are often mistreated and even straight-up decommissioned because of their sentience in other places. The uniforms are optional, and basically just so that the bots don’t have to be naked (but they are kinda repurposed and recycled because the lab doesn’t get much funding so that’s why they’re kinda mid 💀) Of course no one forces the bots to wear the uniforms, and Jonaton and Deedee usually opt not to (esPECIALLY Jonaton). All the scientists are part of the lab except Dr. Fredrick (who is currently deceased but he deserved it so L) And most of them have a decent relationship with the bots.

Jody and their creation, Ticki, are very close, which contributed to Ticki liking and trusting humans so much, and Ticki is very courteous and loyal to the other humans he’s encountered. Jody created Ticki as a personal project, and him gaining sentience was not expected, but was welcomed.

Bellby and Jonaton were both created by Dr. Fredrick to be factory manufacturing bots, and neither like him. He was cruel and did NOT care for their sentience. He treated them as objects, and both Bellby and Jonaton not only hold the trauma of his treatment, but also have permanently damaged certain parts of their sensors and systems due to his cruelty. Bellby has become very nervous and skittish because of this, and while he wants to see the best in people, he tends to be rather slow to truly trust. Jonaton, however, fucking HATES humans because of his treatment. As far as he’s concerned, all humans are untrustworthy and dangerous, and he’s VERY aggressive towards them. Most of the scientists in the lab know this and understand, giving him his space.

Dr. Atlas created Deedee to prove to himself he could create a sentient robot. Deedee is actually made from bits and pieces of Atlas’s failed versions of her, and while he’s pleased that he managed to make a sentient bot, he’s NOT so pleased with Deedee being… well, Deedee. Deedee ADORES Atlas, and sees him as a sort of father figure, but Dr. Atlas is VEHEMENTLY against her calling him dad or being too close to her. He’s… not very fond of her or ANY of the bots. He also sorta idolizes Dr. Fredrick and his work, so um. Yeah he’s a bit contentious in the lab…

Milaya was created by Dr. Tawny, and he was supposed to be a therapy-bot. He was also originally supposed to present as female, but after gaining sentience, Milaya expressed his discomfort in that and Tawny gladly made adjustments to his parts to make him more comfortable in his body! (TRANS ROBOT LETS GOOOO) Tawny and Milaya have a great relationship, Milaya seeing Tawny as a sort of little sister, and Tawny seeing him as an older brother. They have their squabbles as any siblings would, but they are both VERY protective of eachother and would always go to bat for them! Tawny is not necessarily a favorite of the lab due to her combative personality towards literally everyone ever, but she’s actually much nicer to the bots than the human scientists, so she’s alright in most of their books.

Dr. Julianne is not a bot-builder like all the other scientists mentioned so far, she’s a bot mechanic! She specializes in complex robot anatomy, and so was assigned to Milaya due to his VERY detailed and kinda confusing circuitry and parts. Julianne gets along very well with pretty much everyone, except for Dr. Atlas (she thinks he’s uptight and rude, and he thinks she’s a slob and unprofessional) and Jonaton (he just hates all the humans, and the fact that she keeps trying to convince him to let her take a look at his faulty parts and fix them makes him angry). Also, over time bothe Julianne and Milaya developed feelings for one another and they are dating now <3

Dr. Will joined the team in order to research how sentient bots acted in order to work on his project, Leemot. Leemot was supposed to mimic sentience without actually being sentient, though she ended up developing sentience anyway, unknown not only to will and the rest of the lab, but also unknown to her. Will was NOT trusted by most of the bots at first, as his father was the infamous Dr. Fredrick, but he quickly proved to be NOTHING like his dirtbag father <3 He and Leemot do have a kinda strained relationship though, due to Leemot seeing him as simultaneously lesser than it and also desperately feeling the need to be in his favor, and kind of being obsessed about him. Meanwhile Will just wants to have a normal scientist-and-robot relationship, whatever that means. Leemot also eventually is decommissioned after an incident where she caused the death of one human and a severe injury of another.

Dr. Shawn is another bot mechanic, and he has a great relationship with the bots. He’s a very friendly and fun-loving guy, and is VERY into the idea of bots being equal to humans. Deedee ADORES him, and even Jonaton tolerates him better than the other humans. The only person he ever really had a problem with was Dr. Atlas. (Go figure, Atlas is always a problem 💀)

Link, Tech, and Logi are all very late editions to the lab, and were collaborative projects between Tawny and Will. They showed signs of sentience almost immediately, and all three consider Will and Tawny to be their parental figures. All three are pretty ok with humans and bots alike!

I’d LOVE to go into more detail with the story and characters, and I plan to make a lil relationship chart thing soon so feel free to dump more questions!! I love love LOVE my Head Circuits story and I will probably never truly shut up about it lmao

Tonight's Trainwrecks, the first

...V6E8 of Fixing RWBY.

Last time, Celtic Phoenix rewrote The Lost Fable, in the sense that he kept the story exactly the same but ripped off RWBY: Fairy Tales's framing device—and used said framing device to give more focus to his cultural-appropriation going-commando daughteru-OC version of Vernal (who is dead, mind you) than the titular heroines themselves.

This episode, well, let's quote the description:

After three insane episodes, we catch a breather as we catch up with the other half of our main cast.

Now, a popular claim among the "critics" of the show is that the titular heroines themselves are often eclipsed by other characters. This is rarely true and is the result of said "critics" automatically dismissing everything Team RWBY themselves do, when they're not trying to vilify them for fighting back against sociopaths who want to murder them and their friends.

That's why, whereas canon didn't need an episode focused on JNR's group because they made it safe and sound, Fixing RWBY is going to focus on them for an episode.

Or rather, someone who's with them, I bet.

If you're wondering why we're not going to Brunswick Farms, let me remind folks that Celtic Phoenix put Brunswick Farms in V4 so he could make it all about reintroducing Roman to the story as the real main character.

This is going to suck.

Right from the start, Jaune, Nora, Ren, and Cardin (of course) are helping people disembark from the train. You might ask yourself why, because the train is no longer in any sort of danger and no one should need any assistance getting off the train.

The focus immediately goes to Cardin as he talks with a security official, learning about the Atlas withdrawal. Then the rest of Team CRDL shows up, but oh noes, Russell got knocked off the train, but maybe they'll go search for him. Then Nora brings up Team RWBY.

Yes, we just had Fixing RWBY care more about Cardin's buddy than THE TITULAR HEROINES. But Jaune tells Celtic—I mean, Cardin not to worry about Team RWBY.

Saphron shows up. She mentions she's getting chicken nuggets for Adrian.

Then we switch to a Cinder scene! We're not going to get Cinder's fight with Neo, because Neo is already the deuteragonist by virtue of being Roman's faithful servant. Anyway, Cinder flashes back to being on a boat in a sea of Grimm. Tyrian's taking her to Salem's place. Back to the present, where Cinder prattles with Little Miss Malachite.

Back to JNR, where they're at the grocery store. I am not fucking kidding. They're outside of the grocery store. (Why can't they come in to the grocery store?) Jaune talks about how his sisters treated him. Then Jaune tells Nora and Ren to go on to a coffee shop without him, because now we have to have the Pyrrha scene.

Except now she's just a name on the wall.

No, really.

The lady who is obviously Pyrrha's mom shows up, and because Celtic Phoenix thinks good storytelling is when the audience can't put two and two together, makes it explicitly clear. You would think this would be exactly the same as canon, like almost everything in this trainwreck of a series is.

But it's not.

Because there's no arc about Jaune's struggle with his grief leaving him viewing himself as expendable, and Nora and Ren expressing their concern about this attitude. And because Jaune hasn't learned the truth about Ozpin yet, there's no element of that in his reflection of Pyrrha's passing.

So it's just reiterating a scene from canon, but without it being any sort of culmination of any story arc or character development.

In short: nothing happened this episode. In fact, worse than nothing, because this episode's nothing invalidated the possibility of actual plotlines and character growth happening. But we got more Cardin, so...hooray white abusers?

He holds the back of his beloved’s neck steady, prominently running his thumb on the silken choker that hugged all too snug to the skin. It would never be seen under normal circumstances, of course, his beloved daily attire, essentially a uniform. So yes, neither the choker with a delicately crafted pendant in the shape of a bird (an arduous agreement, that one. They concluded it was the only one that the two could agree on that held some degree of symbology for both and individually of course) nor the marks on his beloved neck -or entire canvass of skin for that matter would be easily revealed. Such a fact was both a deep irritation and a necessary precaution (it’s really more of a matter of selfishness of course, not that anyone but the other would understand).

“You could stand to just bend down a little for me you know,” He can practically hear the pout as slender hands try to neatly clasp. “Unless you want me to just lopsided your buttons and tie, that is.”

“You could, but then you’d be setting yourself up for the pettiest invitation to be disciplined for doing so,” a rather teasing voice calls from the other end of the room, a man with hair longer than yours and with all the pretences of gentleness and loyalty (a viewpoint of his own that that Atlas would strongly disagree with, vouching for greater sincerity behind those gentle words dripping with much bloodlust and hunger). 

In an almost scandalized motion, his precious prey stops standing on the tips of his toes and lets out an adorable huff and faces the other man. “I’m genuinely trying, mind you-”

The little Cautus doesn’t get to finish. Without even much force at all, he pulls his dearest one with him as he sits atop the bed and the Cautus essentially straddle his lap. “Height shouldn’t be an issue anymore.”

“It wouldn’t be,” The Cautus snarks softly, continuing to button the shirt again, seeming to feign ignorance of any implications being in such a position would imply. “If neither of you were so damn tall.”

“I would say you’re just small,” Long pink hair curtains the side of the Cautus’ face, looming above him now. “But you are taller than some of your peers.”

It’s hard for him not to be happy, as the two of them essentially became a tight barrier around their dearest - still pouting thanks to said comment. The feline returns his wandering hands to the Cautus’ neck, knowing that for the most of the day it will be hidden from sight - exactly as it should be yet frustrating all the same. 

The Liberi is now playing with locks of the Cautus’ hair, musing. “Shall I braid it for you?”

The two hunters have seen it as such, a handful of times, all done by the same feminine touch. It was not a privilege either of them had. The both of them may be more intimately intertwined with their sweet prey but neither were fit to be the Queen on his board. 

“I don’t think there’s time for that today,” The Cautus’ nimble hands finish the tie and fusses over the creases on the shirt a little. “I really shouldn’t keep Kal’tsit waiting.”

Kal’tsit. Between the two hunters, one respected and even revered her more than the other. “She means well. I know you understand that, Enciodes.”

The Cautus gently touches his face, soothing away the frown he didn’t realise was there at all.

“ Hm . I know for a fact that’s not quite your opinion on her but I suppose you’d welcome her opinion on this front,” The Liberi’s tone drips in a way that always brings polite mischief. Though Enciodes finds himself riled in frustration once more. He does not truly know the machinations of whatever history that lay between his beloved and Kal’tsit, nor the annoyance that Atlas bats not a single eye at the other’s reverence towards the Feline woman. “But I’m sure SilverAsh understands. Why else would he willingly let you sit one on one with Dr Kal’tsit and let her give the most enlightening talk on safe sex and how to ensure he doesn’t get a surprise pregnancy-”

This elicits a groan as the Cautus rests his head onto Enciodes' shoulder, mortified. And while yes, he'd certainly would like offspring at some point… He knows now is not the time. Atlas does not let the Liberi continue down a line of teasing any further, getting up and promptly getting fully dressed, still flushed with slight embarrassment.

“I’ll see you both later,” Atlas of course, still parts with the most chaste of kisses despite essentially having committed much more…. Indulgent actions, so to say, by this point. He does turn back right before he leaves, brows slight in a way that either means concern or frustration, not that Enciodes could fully ever tell. “And Elliot-”

“Preparations for today’s rotation are well underway, my dear Doctor. Now go give your attention to more important matters, hm?”

Enciodes has noticed, of course, how quick the Liberi would be able to discern whatever was on their beloved’s mind, almost as quick as he knows the right kind of words to elicit specific reactions from Atlas with just mere words. Envy may be at play if not for how much easier it was to have Atlas under his thumb, how quick he reacts to even the slightest pull or physical gesture. Elliot has deterred the duty of getting (not coaxing as that never works quite as well) Atlas to bed on days where the dear Doctor sees nothing but Demons and Demises, like the plague of past hauntings would never leave. 

Amiya, for all her protective glares at the two of them, cannot quite complain at certain improvements in the Doctor’s day to day wellbeing. They both know it’s what has her holding her tongue. In truth, neither of the two men believes she has anything to worry about.

The chessboard is frustratingly even. Even between their mutual respect; without Atlas’ presence, the room would have a haunting chill, layered with frustrating intent from hunters who had no choice to come to a stalemate. All it took were a few quips, mayhaps too personal, for the silence to settle in the icy atmosphere. 

…Not that such an approach lasted. Not when both of them knew if it would ever come to it for whatever reason, no matter the history between them, Atlas would never choose another side over Rhodes Island. At least not while Amiya remained there as well. 

Neither makes any comment when they see Atlas soon after, hair now braided and held together with the bluest of ribbons. 

“You can admit you’re sorely tempted to rip it out of his hair, SilverAsh,” Although teasing in tone, Enciodes hears the ever-present bitter jealousy. Not that he could ever judge. But he worries of course, as Passenger gives the impression he may have ever murdered for less. They speak in soft but nonchalant tones, as if discussing the day’s upcoming battle and chores. 

“It matters little, Passenger. We have our hold on him in ways no other could ever dream of.”

“Hm. It’s not enough.”

He’s right of course.

“No. No, it’s never enough.”

One of the smarter zombies here, his superpowers include technological advancements, force field creation, teleportation, creation of sizzles/electricity (but not the same as Boogaloo), xe can also corrupt codes and hack into anything! their civilian alter-ego/true ID is Harris Ricci, he's of italian descent and a dedicated librarian in his free time. He LOVES sci-fi/fantasy books, video games and quantum physics. He's your typical introverted nerd but when you give xem time, xe'll grow on you.

High Tide (trans man, he/him) - Hero version of Surfer Zombie! a very sporty zombie with a love for water sports, especially surfing and high diving, a true beach boy. fights in flip-flops because he doesn't tolerate any other shoes. his powers include hydrokinesis and a bit of control over the air (since it contains H20 but he can mostly bend the sea breeze). his hydro powers are special though, he can bend any liquid, change the state of it (into either solid, liquid or gas state) and some more tricks he knows. He works as a part-time firefighter and lifeguard, but there he's known as your sweet Oliver Chandler. He's a himbo and a ray of sunshine that's it. he's lucky though! Neptuna and him are dating!

Dazzling Starr (demigirl, she/her) - The star of the show! A well-known glam musician who also happens to be a zombie hero. She's a multi-instrumentalist and can even play on weirdest instruments out there, but she mainly uses her beloved guitar to deliver some killer solos. Her powers include manipulation and generation of sounds. pretty much vanquishes plants with guitar riffs. she can also hypnotize them! yes! hypnotizing music! She can pretty much bend mf physics and cause a mini earthquake when she stomps her foot. a buff girl do not mess with her or else she'll squeak you like a toy. her hero name was originally just her stage name, but now she's a beloved hero! her civilian ID is Deborah, or Debbie, she has some spanish roots. and! she's married to Electric Boogaloo (who's a #1 husband and can't stop talking about how much he loves his wife) and has a teenage daughter!

Millisecond (cis male, he/him) - Interstellar Bounty Hunter and an Assassin, works on the space zombie black market (yes i know how this sounds like) offering assassination services. He has amazing aim, but his superpower is super-speed! He can run around 10,000km in a minute (forgive my european ass i dunno how to use miles) and not be seen, as he really can run up fast. knows every corner of space, and is wanted in like 40 galaxies. Dr. Zomboss hired him to get rid of the plant heroes, but instead he got adopted by the zombie heroes that are now his found family. His name is in fact Alasdair Diamantis (but gets called Atlas), as he has greek roots. He and Rustbolt are dating! they're boyfriends and very in love.

Beatrice "Betty" (cis female, she/her) - Dazzling Starr and Electric Boogaloo's teenage, 16 year old daughter, embodiment of 2000s emo/scene mixed with rock 'n' roll and disco. yes. She's one hell of an edgy teenager, she's a part of the team as she works as some sort of sidekick/beloved niece of the zombie heroes. she has superpowers, it was passed to her genetically! she has electricity + sound manipulation mixed, but she doesn't want to be a hero in future, she wishes to be a drummer and she's actually amazing at playing on the drums! she has a part-time job though, thank to Rustbolt, she babysits the Imps at Z-Tech factory. Why the ATLA comics fail when it comes to Zuko and his family

To whom ever took their time to actually stop and read this post, thank you in advance for not skipping my post and willing to stay and read my humble opinion! I hope I won’t disappoint you!

As a relatively newcomer to the ATLA fanbase since 2020, I’ve come across a lot of interesting debates, comments and rants about the show, characters and fandom in general, but nothing has captivated me as much as the dumpster-on-fire that are the ATLA comics, more specifically: The Promise and The Search. 

On one hand we have the hardcore fans who want them to be animated or serialized into the Netflix live action, praising the comics for the new views and subject matters they’ve brought into the show’s lore, while on the other hand we have the furious Azula fandom who is really angry for the fact that best girl didn’t get the redemption arc she rightfully deserved so much after the painful event that was the Last Agni Kai and the even more angry fans of the Urzai ship (yeah, the people who actually ship Zuko’s parents unironically) who hated the retconning of the show’s cannon since the comics basically took a huge fat dump on what was previously established as official cannon, when the Search entered the scene, but between these two sides, who has the more valid point? In the end, are the comics good cannon or bad written fanfiction?

Well... Here are my two cents on this matter since I myself happen to be an Azula and Zuko fan and had huge expectations from these comics (since I wanted more from my fave hot-headed fiery siblings duo) but ended up disappointed: the comics are indeed a huge mess and actually bad written fanfiction when it comes to Zuko and his family! Don’t click off yet, because I actually documented the reasons why exactly the comics fail in this area:

1. The author of these comics is not part of the BryKe duo

Yes, I would like to start with the fact that if you actually take a second to look up who in the heck took the time to write these two books, you won’t find Bryan, nor Mike, but a fellow man named Gene Yang. This is important because while the wiki of both The Promise and The Search state BryKe as the creators, that doesn’t mean that they were the actual minds behind these comics, but rather because ATLA is their “baby” and these comics involve their characters, over which they have copyright. Mr. Yang here is the actual brain behind the plot, as the main writer, which explains why we find huuuuge inconsistencies between the show lore and the comics, especially Zuko wise.

My main issue with Mr. Yang isn’t that he isn’t BryKe specifically, but because he did an unforgivable mistake in his writing process: He projected himself into Zuko’s character, based on the relationship Zuko had with his father. This is a documented fact from an interview in which he explains that he sees himself and his dad’s relationship into Zuko and Ozai and used that when writing their interactions and built Zuko’s character in the comics. And this is wrong because when you have an already very developed and complex character such as Zuko, you can’t just come in and be like “Oh, I was an angsty teen just like him in my teenage years, fighting with my dad and whatnot, so he must have the same thought process as me!”. NO! This is bad fanfiction writer behavior! Zuko has his own personality and philosophy, which he developed over the course of 3 seasons and is not defined by only 1 unfortunate aspect of his past, so you can’t just base his whole mindset and actions off of your own personal experience just because you had the same daddy issues he had!

2. The whole “Promise that you will kill me if I turn out like my dad!” nonsense in The Promise

Reason number 2 why these comics fail and go under the category of “bad fanfiction” is because they fail to convey the core essence of the source material. The whole point of Zuko’s redemption was that he realized the wrongdoings of his ancestors and his own mistakes. He outgrew his desire of gaining his father’s acknowledgement in favor of choosing his own destiny. Having him worry that he’ll turn into his father is utter nonsense and feels like poor angsty drama material for the sake of angst. At this point in time, Zuko has overcame that obstacle in his life a long time ago and should be at the level where he himself is the “Uncle Iroh” for other people and in no way someone concerned of becoming their own worst enemy!

Not only that, but the whole point of Aang’s journey and the story of the show as a whole was to teach us, the viewers, the importance of forgiveness, empathy and love in life. Aang didn’t spare Ozai, aka “the ultimate evil” just to flex in front of his pals or because he is a “ 12 y/o vegan pacifist monk kid”, but because he knew that killing someone, no matter of what they did or wanted to do, wouldn’t restore balance into the Universe, on the contrary, him killing the villain would have meant perpetuating the “endless cycle of hate” that plagued the world. So having Aang promise to kill his best friend in case “they turned into an evil maniac like their dad” contradicts Aang’s whole character and it’s a nonsense that throws into the trash what we’ve learnt throughout the entire TV series.

3. Azula deserved (and was supposed) to have a redemption ark

This might still be pure speculation, but I count it as a documented reason because I’ve heard quite a few people saying that there should’ve been a book 4 in the show, aka “Book 4: Air”, and no, it wasn’t The Search, but actually Zuko and Azula’s journey as Zuko helps his younger sister heal her broken mind by being her very own “Uncle Iroh”. Sure, they prolly were going to end up looking for Ursa, but the journey should’ve ended with them actually being happy and a family again and not the bs we got in The Search where a still very unstable Azula runs away and becomes the “Next Joker”! The only problem is that M. Night had to pop up and curse the world with his movie, which forced BryKe to delay the project (and eventually abandoned it in favor of Korra).

All in all, either if BryKe had this preplanned or not, it made sense for Azula to get a redemption ark, she deserved it because she was just a broken 14 y/o child! If Katara’s mom’s murderer deserved to be forgiven, so did this poor child who had no fault for what happened to her since she had a dysfunctional family! What Gene Yang did in his poorly written fanfiction was to just antagonize a broken child, turning her into a monster for the sake of friggin angst!

4. The Search is the worst of the two, being flat af character wise

And finally, getting to the point that I personally find the most annoying about these comics: The Search. This one... This one is a mess on a hella lot many levels, and just to list a few: characters are flat as fudge, being either black as vanta black (like Ozai and Azula) or pure white like Gene’s Gary Stue OC, Mr Ikem (or how I like to call him, IKEA man) and his ‘victim’ rendition of Ursa, Azula gets to suffer more for no reason (see reason number 3 to why I find this as a no no), Ursa’s whole character sucks ass (man, I could write a whole thesis on why Yang’s version of her is terrible and doesn’t match the strong woman we got in the show) and Zuko does morally wrong stuff (my man literally used his unstable sister to bribe their dad into spitting info about Ursa... Show Zuko would never do that!;-;)

Oh boy, as a person who’s seen a ton of anime and other media and read many books, I can’t begin on how much I despise this type of writing: flat characters are the worst!

 ATLA characters in the show are nothing close to being flat! What I mean by that is that none of them fall perfectly into pure white (aka goodest of good characters with no imperfections) or vanta black (aka lowest and darkest twisted monsters out there), each of them are various shades of grey (like Aang who is a very light grey because despite being a very kind and nice character, he still isn’t a “perfect hero” since he ran away from his duties, practiced tax fraud with Toph, had insecurities and even threatened to kill people on ocassions like with the sand benders who took Appa) and this is a good choice because that prevents them from becoming what’s globally known as Mary Sues and Gary Stues (aka those either “perfect” characters with no flaws and/or unlimited power, or the twisted monsters full of flaws).

And the other reason why many other people hate The Search: it literally negates previously established cannon. And here comes my short essay on why this comic fails Zuko’s family (since we’ve already talked enough about Zuko himself).

In cannon and even interviews with BryKe, it was clearly stated that Zuko’s family was “once happy”. Where is this “once happy” family in The Search? All I see is pain, deception, lies and betrayal, nothing close to anything that resembles happiness. Okay, some of you might come in and say that “It’s because it was never the case! It was only lies and Zuko trying to convince himself that he didn’t live in hell forever!” and here is WHERE YOU WERE ALL WRONG! And why? Because, my dear fella, where were depicted the flashbacks of Zuko’s “happy family” in The Beach? Ember Island. And what do we know and had been even quoted in the show?  "Like waves washing away the footprints on the sand, Ember Island gives everyone a clean slate. Ember Island reveals the true you." (direct quote from the show). Exactly, no matter who you are or how hard you try, you can’t hide your true self when you are on the Ember Island, best example being Azula, who’s impenetrable though shell cracked and revealed the true vulnerable child that was underneath. If Azula couldn’t resist the “spell of the island”, no one can. So this means that Zuko’s family was indeed happy once and yes, Ozai wasn’t always the douchebag we got to know in Season 3 (I have a whole nother essay on my theories regarding what could be his real past story and why he’s actually the “Zuko” of his generation, based on stuff I gathered from old wiki entries and character analyses I made, but that’s for another time, lemme know if ya’ll are interested).

And what I guess is the biggest proof why The Search did this family’s past trash is comics Ursa herself. My dude, if this woman were indeed the victim of years of endless abuse and never loved her husband, I guarantee you that she would’ve been closer to what we saw in Todoroki’s mom from BNHA and Zuko would’ve gotten that scar or even worse long before the Agni Kai, not from his “daddy dearest”, but from “mommy dearest” herself, because no sane woman would be soo affectionate and attached to a child that’s the perfect copy of their abuser, sepecially appearance wise (again see Todoroki’s mom’s case from BNHA because the stories are really similar) and in no way would’ve she been willing to sacrifice her life for said child’s sake. With this ocassion, I remind ya’ll folks that according to the ancient ATLA cannon wikis on Nick’s site, Ozai was designed with Zuko’s appearance in mind, being meant to be like a “grown up scarless version” of Zuko. So yeah, remember this with a grain of salt that whenever you simp over grown up Zuko, you involuntary simp for Ozai too.

So yeah, I guess this kinda concludes my “not so short” rant about why the comics fail and are bad fanfiction. Lemme hear your thoughts in the comments and if you agree, feel free to leave a like and even reblog.

The casual civvies going outside Inosuke, as said before, he dresses for comport. so tee shirt and cargo shorts, he can still use them as ninja clothes because no ninja is TRULY off duty.

If you’re gonna do a style guide you’re gonna dress that character in the YOUTH™ Spandex. I don’t make the rules, I just follow them.

As above, you’re gonna also need an Akatsuki!version of that character, Inosuke’s probably gonna keep it pretty simple with how he wears the cloak, might have a bit of the bottom buttons done for more leg room, but he’s a Genjutsu user so...good god he’s be a fucking NIGHTMARE as a missing nin....

Can you summarise who is Guy?

Unrelated. Since Ariel is France's version of American Dragon, why doesn't she tackle Hawkmoth? I know it has been asked before but bit confused that she knows who Hawkmoth is and still doesn't apprehend him? Does Hawkmoth have any form of protection against her?

Okay so I'll tackle Ariel first:

The Doyalist answer is that is Ariel just curbstomped Hawkmoth, we don't have a story.

The Watsonian answer:

Under Magic Law bullshit, Hawkmoth has just as much right to this side of the conflict as Team Miraculous does. Yes, everyone acknowledges he's a fuck and he does need taken down. But Ariel herself can't get involved as she is supposed to protect both sides of the conflict.

Though she of course favors Team Miraculous, she can't go after Hawkmoth herself or give up his Identity to Team Miraculous without also going after them and telling Hawkmoth their Identities because of 'fairness' and shit. It's even more complicated given fuckery around how no matter who wins the 'conflict' most damage is reversed.

Again, everyone agrees it's bullshit. But unless Hawkmoth crosses certain lines, then Ariel can't interfere.

As for Guy.....

Oh boy.

Guy started as a random pyromaniac from my 'Ask Team Miraculous/Ask HC' series. Then he evolved into a Cryptid of sorts.

Then with the introduction of The Crossover(a multi-fandom Crossover with several series, including ML and AD:JL), Guy became an OC for Samurai Jack.

Guy is another child of Aku, like Ashi. But he is both very chill and has no chill.

Still a pyromaniac, but also owns a restaurant. Loves to cause chaos(especially for the Dragons)! Will throw hands with shitty parents. Guy inherited Aku's powers. But he also inherited the fucker's voice which can get very fun or extremely sad when you remember that Aku shares a voice with Iroh from ATLA.

4) favorite character you’ve written

So this one is a little difficult because I feel like I've written a lot of characters because I've made so many fanfics, some that have never seen narrative prose (stayed as self indulgent outlines) or because I've spent so much time with the same cast of original characters for so long.

For fanfiction characters, I think my favorite is either Lucretia Doppel, the X-men OC I made, or Velstadt from Dark Souls 2. Doppel has a cool powerset that I've given her and she's kind of a damaged warrior that seeks out the good in others regardless of their alignment. And Velstadt is a loyal, strict, disciplined, faux-noble and was my primary example of Character Voice in writing.

As far as original content goes, I haven't really given anyone a solid characterization as yet. Alden was supposed to be my husband's humor masking side, but he's kinda devolved into an emo grump. Idania was supposed to be a better version of me to pair with Alden, but she's actually become her own character, an opinionated servant that suffers some great tragedies and then finds her strength out of spite to become a force of nature, literally. Billy, I think, is my favorite, just because I've spent the most time honing his character through his immortality survivor's guilt.

As a bonus! My favorite DnD character that I've made was the original version of Dahlia/Rokaria. She was intended to be a trickster Fae kind of character but the DM doesn't have the same idea of fae that I do, so it didn't work out. But none of my DnD games have, unfortunately, so.

9) what, if anything, do you do for inspiration?

I'm a terrible writer because I don't control myself or focus very well. There's plenty of times I will tell myself that I'm gonna write tomorrow/today and then sit around watching Youtube and playing video games and not writing.

But, I guess it depends on what inspiration means in this context. Is it the desire to write or is it like, what is your wip inspired by?

What gives me the desire to write is typically engaging with something that is well-written. Like watching a movie/show and realizing that they executed a story well and I wanna do that. Or reading something and having fun with the book and now I'm happy so let's get to typing. And the "I can't sleep so I might as well work on my story" and then waking up with ideas or something. Sometimes I just want to present my current situation to my husband, we brainstorm a while, and I start writing. I've also gotten an old friend to read my stuff and she sent me some feedback on my first chapter and it inspired me to go back and edit. (Then I remembered where I got stuck and got scared to keep going.)

For the other question, fanfiction inspiration is obvious, but the rest of it is hard. Because I don't feel like I write things with intentional inspiration, with the intent to make an ATLA inspired thing. It's more like I take the things I want to see happen, fantasize about them before bed, and then write. My husband came up with most of the premise of Zodiac, then I fell in love with it and took it over and I'm still trying to figure out what it's about and what I want to do with it. Wouldn't it be cooler if the Virgo Princess had agency and saved Alden and the other two idiots from their fate, but in doing so, made it look like they kidnapped her? Alden and Idania fall in love, but how long does it take and what brings them together? How does Gary being a Cusp affect how people interact with him and how his life plays out? You know, I guess ultimately the inspiration is answering questions.

I got super inspired and organized, however, when I started watching Youtube video essays about the craft of writing. Brandon Sanderson and Hello Future Me and OSP and such. TotallyNotMark and... other people I can't remember. People breaking down media that I already know and enjoy and showing me its core universal components. Like what my English 1102 class was supposed to teach me in college. But now let's discuss One Piece's themes and characterization.

19) when it comes to more complicated narratives, how do you keep track of outlines, characters, development, timeline, ect.?

...I remember them.

It's only within the last couple years that I've started to actually work on hard worldbuilding for my WIP. I don't want to pay money for something like Scrivener and I tried yWriter but it didn't work for me. In a desperate bid to get people to pay attention to my WIP, I started trying to make one of those Comic Sans powerpoints and discovered a lot of things about my WIP and myself. The Powerpoint was really pleasant and I enjoyed using it to hold information. Then I started watching Youtube and started an outline of the overall series. And I did this because I wanted to participate in NaNoWriMo at least once. Because I've written so many words at this point, but nothing publishable.

I have a MSPPT for like, characters. Then another one that my husband called the World Bible, which has all the worldbuilding for the 12 different races. Then the big like 71 page outline in MSWord of half the series where I finally ran out of ideas and figured I'd know how to progress once I fleshed out the stuff that was already there. (I haven't yet, because I keep splitting myself between whatever feels the best to work on as a way of procrastinating on the stuff that's hard, so nothing is getting very done.)

The husband has decided, since he wants to be more involved with the project, to convert all that information into some kind of Wiki and is looking into World Anvil (free) to see if it will function for our purposes.

I have finally finished my RWBY OC’s!!! For those confused, they are team RAIN.  Nyx is the N

And Nicole is the I (For her last name XD. I just forgot to put it on her page)  But yessss here is my team. I want to make a fanfic of them cause I’ve put so much work and passion into them. I love RWBY so much, even despite it’s flaws, and will continue to support it until it comes to its closure :3 

For those who might be interested I’ll put the characters info down below 

The concept of their story is four people from Earth, being reincarnated into the RWBY Universe after their death. They are aware of each other and that in their old lives “RWBY” was just a show. Knowing what is to come they set out to change and hopefully save as many people as they can. 

Rayne Darl: 

She is a quiet and loving person, yet is very quick on her feet when needed. She is a person who wishes to spend most of her time helping children. Wanting all children to be happy, warm, and well fed. She even goes through her life adopting many when she finds them on the streets. While she trains and joins her teams on missions, her normal occupation is Farming. 

Her Semblance is : BARRIER. Allowing her to make a barrier around herself and others until enough force manages to break it down. If Rayne is without injury herself, her barrier can even slowly heal those within. 

She lives in Mistral just outside of Haven. 

Her Fairy Tale used to be “THE OLD WOMAN WHO LIVED IN THE SHOE” (I’m aware that belongs to Caroline Cordovin XD) So I was lost for a while on who she should be. I’m tempted to have her be “Mary Poppins” instead XD

Her weapon is a Spear that is also the mix of a Sniper Rifle. 

Due to her silver eyes she keeps herself secluded, living out in the middle of nowhere most of the time 

Allie Jenzie: 

Often referring to herself in third person Allie lives in Vacuo, caring for her very own Bee farm called BB (Bee Buddies). She often brings a lot of trade through Vacuo due to this, considering Vacuo itself it very barren. 

She is massively strong, despite her small size and childish demeanor. The Tank of the team. 

She is often lost when having conversations involving big words, and struggles to see social cues. 

As a Faunus she resembles a small bear, her body partially covered in yellow fur, with a small round tail, and two bear ears on top of her head. 

Her Semblance: Flower Growth. No matter the climate, flowers grow around her, sometimes without her even meaning too. While this isn’t something she uses in combat, it helps her with her Bee farm immensely. 

Her inspiration comes from : Winnie the Pooh~

And yes, she loves honey~ :3 

Her weapon is a large War Hammer that mixes with a Machine gun. She even added a chain to one end to give it a quick swing around her. 

She has no fear in being hunted down for her silver eyes, often even forgetting there is a threat to begin with. Her head often in the clouds

Nicole Ironwood: 

The brains of their group, Nicole is vastly skilled in anything metal and machine. Even in her previous life she was a well known engineer and inventor. 

In this life she was lucky enough to be born within Atlas and able to get an early start to work on their forms of technology. Another shocking twist was being born into the IRONWOOD family line. 

Being the Cousin (or sister? adopted? I dunno...) of James Ironwood himself she finds herself able to step right into the events of RWBY without too much suspicion. Due to both being involved with James and her own Silver eyes, however, Nicole was attacked as a young child. 

This attack resulted in the lost of both her arms and one of her eyes. She often hides her single silver eye with her hair. 

Her Semblance is Combustion. (Her first use of this Semblance lost her both of her arms in a desperate attempt to save herself). This Semblance makes large explosions appear from her hands. Conducting heavy heat and if she isn’t careful she will get severe burns of lost of limbs. (The best way to think of it is Bakugo’s quirk from MHA, just no nitro glycerin sweat) She must be very careful to hold back with this Semblance otherwise she will blow away both her Robotic arms with every use. 

Her inspiration comes from : The Ugly Duckling (Often called ugly as a child yet grew into quite the beauty as an adult) 

Her weapon of choice is both the use of her own robotic arms, and Chakram Blades. To enhance these further she carries dust around in her belt, spreading it over the blades before each battle. 

Nyx Port: 

Nyx is a quiet and reserved man, hiding away an easily frightened and anxious man within. He spends most of his time in his occupation as a Hunter, traveling around the world. After a mishap with his friends at Vale, who suspect him of ill intentions due to his Semblance, he kept to himself, only relying on his main team (RAIN) 

He is the Strategist of the team, often taking charge as the leader from time to time. 

He lives a quiet life in Vale, finding himself being born as the younger brother of the Hunter Peter Port. This in turns involves him in a lot of the early history of RWBY’s show. 

His Semblance: Shape Shifting. Similar to the summoning of Winter Shnee, when Nyx has defeated a Grimm, giving the killing blow, he can take the form of that creature! This wildly eats away at his emotions however when he does this, fueled heavily by Nyx’s fears. To separate him from a normal Grimm his body is a glittering Gray, while the armored plates are pure uncracked white. (Like A Pokemon Shiny version XD Just for Grimm) 

His Inspiration: The Big Bad Wolf (I’m aware the Grimm are mostly suppose to fill in that role, but hey... he can shape into that so... it works XD) 

His weapons are small daggers and a Large blade. This blade in turn can turn into a Bow of sorts, which he then uses to fire the Daggers as if they were arrows. 

To fix the problem of often sending his own weapons flying, he covers himself in Gravity manipulation dust. (all the Purple on his outfit) This dust pulls his daggers and sword back to his body should he lose them. 

He keeps himself moving due to fear of being hunted down or caught by Salem herself. Knowing both his silver eyes and his Semblance make him a big target.
