Heavenly Pearl's Fic Review 2022 - (Im)perfect Proposal
Finally, we get to some Sailor Moon fics! "(Im)perfect Proposal" was the first of three stories I wrote for the inaugural Sailor Moon Rare Pair Week I created. (FYI, don't forget the themes for next year's Rare Pair Week have already been announced if you'd like to participate!)
Summary: Helios has the ring in his pocket and a great speech prepared, but his plans for the perfect proposal keep falling through during his big anniversary date with Serenity.
Thoughts: Inspired by YOI Rare Pair Week, I decided to start up Sailor Moon Rare Pair Week to celebrate those pairings that don't tend to get much as much attention as the Miracle Romance, as wonderful as they are. Obviously, that meant I had to write a fic starring my OTP, Helios/Chibi-Usa! I wrote this fic as a prequel of sorts for "Eternal Dream", my as-of-yet unpublished entry for the Drops of Moonlight zine, although it obviously works just fine on its own. I was pretty pleased with how this one turned out, too. It was cute how nervous Helios was to pop the question, even though she was obviously going to say "yes", and his "imperfect" proposal turned out great in the end, dirty clothes and all!

The thing with living with Yuri is, it’s so easy.
It’s easy to relax in the living room together, watching movies in the rare nights they have free time. It’s easy for Yuuri to chop vegetables while Yuri sprinkles their dinner with spices. It’s easy to discuss any topic of conversation or just to sit and curse their assignments.
It’s so easy, as if their lives fit seamlessly together without the jagged friction clashing them apart.
Of course, it’s not without conflicts either, because Yuuri is passive aggressive and Yuri is aggressive and both of them are too stubborn for their own good. Yet, even with all the setbacks, it makes Yuuri covets their interactions more.
And Yuuri still doesn’t know how to deal with his feelings.
A promo of my Yuuri Katsuki/Yuri Plisetsky piece for @yoirarepairzine

Promo Ficlet for Rare Pair Zine
In honor of Monsieur Giacometti’s birthday, please have a promo ficlet set within the confines of my @yoirarepairzine piece. I was tasked with the honor of Chris/Yuuri/Victor, and this is a little diddy explaining the Chris and Yuuri part of that equation.
Yuuri’s chin rests in his hand as he looks out the massive windows to his right. Le Jardin du Tuileries greets him, illuminated by lamps against the evening sky. There are statues scattered throughout, looming specimens immortalized in pristine, white marble.
His assignments this fall for the Grand Prix series were Skate America and the Trophée ric Bompard, and while he normally would spend the evening after the free programs relaxing in his room, Chris insisted on showing him a little of the City of Lights.
They’re a quick stroll from the Louvre, though it’s closed for the night. The architecture looks lovely, though, and the weather is surprisingly mild.
“Schatzi,” Chris calls.
Yuuri blinks, giving him a look. “Oh, sorry.”
“I was making sure the sole was to your liking,” Chris replies with a teasing smile.
This is Yuuri’s 20th birthday gift: a formal, Parisian dinner full of Michelin Stars.  The food is really incredible, though he’ll never remember what’s in it. “Oh, no, it’s really good! The view just—“
“Yes, I know,” Chris says. “I came here last year with another friend. I try to make a point to dine here when I’m in town.”
“Makes sense,” Yuuri says. The sole is Grenoble style, sautéed in clarified butter with capers and tomatoes, served on top of a bed of wilted spinach. They began with foie gras, and Chris has ordered the corresponding wine pairings.
It’s kind of like a fancy date, Yuuri thinks as he takes a sip of his drink. “Was it a skater or someone normal?”
“Normal is relative, and yes, not just any skater,” Chris says. “You know the one.”
Yuuri freezes while cutting his fish. He feels a blush stain his cheeks. “Oh.”
The attempt at playing it cool fails. Chris smiles. “Say the word.”
“No,” Yuuri says. “It has to be right. I have to earn it.”
“You don’t, but I respect you anyways,” Chris says with a laugh.
Yuuri laughs too; he knows it’s ridiculous, but…it’s how it needs to happen.
Chris catches his eyes, holding them like a magnet for several beats. The warm, moss green is inviting and soft, and Yuuri thinks of the third man whose specter floats in the space between. He loves having Chris’s attention, but something about the thought of both makes his belly warm.
He’s years off from even shaking Victor’s hand, and Chris is here right now. Yuuri knows he’s not bad in the looks department, and Chris is more than “not bad.” He’s fairly kind (though he gets salty if he thinks he didn’t score the way he should have), and he’s funny. They’ve known each other forever.
Their entrees are cleared, and dessert arrives. “Bon anniversaire,” Chris says with a grin.
Yuuri’s had offers and never taken them. Tonight, he decides to make one of his own.  “Merci,” he replies. “Are you busy after this?”
Chris pauses mid-sip of his dessert rosé. He gives Yuuri a different, hungrier smile. “I feel I may be spoken for shortly.”
“If you want,” Yuuri says as he takes a bite of his coffee tart.
Turns out, Chris does want, and Yuuri’s first time is handled with care, sensitivity, and a great deal of passion. It’s a good night, a great birthday, and the experience gets repeated every now and then when they compete together.

*chirps* YOI RarepairZine JJBek preview!!
Sooooooooooooo, I think it’s about time I posted a preview of my fic for @yoirarepairzine since I was lucky enough to have the chance to write some JJBek for them.
Here goes!
--------------------------------------
Conversations stay stilted for the first three days, avoidances bouncing in and out of the air around them like radio static. Then JJ puts the words between them firmly one morning, aching and bitter like the mug of black coffee he’s pulled from Otabek’s pot.
“She left me.”
Otabek reaches for his own drink, warm and inviting, and considers pretending he didn’t hear.
“Yeah?”
“She said there was something about me that she just couldn’t put her finger on. Like I had secrets, and she was constantly trying to catch up to them.”
The tone of JJ’s voice is flat, not too much meaning directed anywhere specific, but Otabek can feel the stare of blue eyes in his peripheral.
He puts his tongue between his teeth, bites it once, then speaks.
“Everyone’s entitled to secrets, Jean. I’m sure she had a few of her own.”
JJ wrinkles his nose as he sips his coffee.
“Yeah but that’s difference I guess. I didn’t care about catching up to hers.”
-----------------
I sure hope everyone buys this wonderful zine.

fic writer tag game
I was tagged by @danger-flammable. Thank you so much for thinking about me! This was a lot of fun, giving me the opportunity to stroll down memory lane for a while. :D :D :D
Fandoms: A veritable shit-ton as I am a fandom old. In descending story total (complete, WIP, and crossovers of various lengths):
MCU: 37
Supernatural: 19
Veronica Mars: 13
Buffyverse: 12
Harry Potter: 6
Yuri on Ice: 6
Smallville: 4
Daredevil: 2
Gilmore Girls: 2
Persona 5: 2
Bungou Stray Dogs: 1
Final Fantasy 15: 1
Firefly: 1
Game of Thrones: 1
The Hunger Games: 1
My Hero Academia: 1
Voltron: 1
I didn’t write fic for five years, so I usually divide my fandoms into Phase 1 (Supernatural, Veronica Mars, Buffyverse, Harry Potter, Smallville, Gilmore Girls, Firefly, and the Hunger Games) and Phase 2 (MCU, Yuri on Ice, Daredevil, Persona 5, Bungou Stray Dogs, Final Fantasy 15, Game of Thrones, My Hero Academia, and Voltron).
Where You Post: AO3 (under Wynn). I usually post notifications about AO3 postings on Tumblr, rather than complete stories. Back in the day, I posted on FF.net (Wynn) and Livejournal (jwynn). There are links to these old accounts and the stories posted there on my Tumblr if anyone is interested.
Most Popular Multi-Chapter Fic: I’ll stick to the AO3 era. My most popular stories are “Sixty Impossible Things” (Yuri on Ice, Podium Family Centric) with 6197 kudos and “That Which You Seek” (MCU, Wintershock) with 5997 kudos. I’ve been lucky to capture lightning in the bottle twice, so to speak, as there are so many different variables that go into a fic being popular.
Favorite Story You’ve Written So Far: This is so hard because I’ve been writing for so long. Here are some fics/fandoms that stick out as memorable and meaningful:
I like a lot of the Supernatural fics I wrote way back in the day (seasons 1-3). I think I did some cool stylistic things in them, especially “Communication Breakdown” and “Tiny A’s All in a Row.” I feel like I started to come into my own as a fic writer during this time.
I have a lot of affection for “Remebrance of Things Past,” my massive MCU WIP. It’s the fic that got me back into fic writing again after 5 years. I’m still in awe of some of the action sequences I planned (one spanning five chapters and, like, six different locations and plot lines that all converged into one disaster). Some of the nicest comments that I’ve ever received were about that fic, despite the fact that I went rare-pair happy with it (Loki and Natasha, Steve and Sif, Clint and Darcy, etc.).
I can mix the first two bullet points and apply them to my Yuri on Ice stories. I still get giddy about some of the writing I did for “The Fire That Burns” and “Spectacles Long Thought Myth.” I just think that it’s so good. And, of course, I have so much affection for “Sixty Impossible Things.” It’s become so much more meaningful than I anticipated when I started writing it, and I’m still in awe at the responses I receive when I post chapters, even though it’s been so long since I started writing the fic.
Fic You Were Nervous to Post: There’s always some trepidation if a fic I’m posting has anything racy in it, which is why it’s rare for me to do so. Other than this, there’s always the nerves of “will this be well-received, will readers think I’ve kept the characters in-character, etc.,” especially if I’m posting for the first time in a new fandom, which happens much more frequently nowadays.
How You Choose Your Titles: A lot of the times they’re song titles or lyrics from songs or other works (“That Which You Seek”- song title, “Winter Giving Way”- song lyric, “The Unconquerable Will”- phrase from literature). Other times they’re a phrase from the fic itself (“Spectacles Long Thought Myth,” “Weirwood and Steel”).
Do You Outline: Usually, though I don’t rigidly stick to it. If an interesting path pops up in the course of writing, I’m willing to follow it. I’ve usually got a destination in mind, but I’m not always fixed on the paths taken to get there.
Complete: 94 stories out of 110.
In Progress: My eternal WIP “Sixty Impossible Things.” I truly hope to finish it this year. I’m working on the climax now, and there are maybe 3 chapters planned after this, though I often divide chapters as my scenes get kind of long. There are also a number of WIPs from 2018 and 2019 when I struggled with fic writing (“If One Wishes to Obtain,” “The Fire that Burns,” and “Red Roar Rising”). If I could return to “Sixty Impossible Things” after 14 months and then after 6 months and begin writing again, I could return to these as well.
Coming Soon/ Not Yet Started: I suppose I’ll be able to post my YoI Dreadfully Yours fic “Smooth Runs the Waters” sometime this year, once the ‘zines have been shipped to everyone. Beyond that, I’m not sure. I have ideas for fics, but no firm plans to write anything beyond trying to finish “Sixty Impossible Things.” Some of my ideas include:
Adding to “Winter Giving Way.” I’d brainstormed a chapter in which Chuuya discovers Akutagawa and Atsushi’s relationship. I’d also brainstormed a few chapters in which Akutagawa introduces Atsushi to Gin and Atsushi has to deal with his issues about homes and families.
Adding to “The Unconquerable Will.” I’d brainstormed Goro joining the Phantom Thieves in their fight against Shido.
I brainstormed A LOT of different Persona 5 fics, including one with Goro as Batman and Akira as Catwoman, an Ouran High School Host Club AU with Goro as the Tamaki-esque character and Akira as the Haruhi-esque character, one that explores Goro being a more of a direct tool of Yaldy (one of his angels, playing off the Justice arcana, keeping the order in Yaldy’s kingdom) and how he “falls” upon meeting Akira (playing off Arsene and Satanel being connected to hell and rebelling against Yaldy) by showing Goro the truth of the world.
Do You Accept Prompts: I sometimes reblog one of the “send me a prompt” posts, but I don’t usually get a response. I’m also such a slow writer that, especially now, I don’t want to divert fic writing energies from “Sixty Impossible Things.”
Upcoming Story You’re Most Excited to Write: I’m genuinely excited about trying to finish “Sixty Impossible Things.” People have been so patient and kind with their encouragement as I’ve struggled to write it. I want to reward that but also prove to myself that I can finish a fic of this length once again.

2021 Fanfic End of the Year Asks
And here’s another review questionnaire! Again, feel free to consider yourself tagged if you would like to do this yourself.
favorite fic you wrote this year - "The Bonds We Choose"
least favorite fic you wrote this year - Eh, I guess "Sara in the Moonlight", if I had to choose.
favorite line/scene you wrote this year - I already mentioned these in the other questionnaire, but my favorite scene was Ch. 10 of "The Bonds We Choose" and my favorite line was "Otabek hadn't won because he was the best skater in the world; he had won only because the best skater in the world had made a mistake and lost," from “Golden Moment”.
total number of words you wrote this year - (Copying and pasting my answer from before) My official word count for the year on AO3 is 190,106, but about 33,500 of those are from reposting "Sands of Time (Destiny Arrives)", one of the very first fics I ever wrote, so those shouldn't count. And some of those stories/chapters were actually written last year; I just wasn't able to post them until this year. So... I'm going to say roughly in the 120,000-150,000 range?
most popular fic this year - "What Happens In St. Petersburg" probably, although it's hard to judge the popularity of "The Bonds We Choose" since it's a long multi-part and I started posting last year. TBWC does have the most AO3 comments of all my fics, at 32.
least popular fic this year - "Blue Christmas" only got three kudos and two comments/reviews, so...yeah. Guess not many Minako/Yaten fans around!
longest completed fic you wrote this year - "The Bonds We Choose" ended up at about 80,000 words, but I didn't write all of them this year. The longest one-shot was “Ménage à Trois” at a little over 14,000.
shortest completed fic you wrote this year - "A Dynamite Surprise" was only 870 words.
longest wip of the year - Well, it's no longer a WIP, but “The Bonds We Choose”.
shortest wip of the year - Again, no longer a WIP, but the only other (new) multi-part I posted was "What Happens In St. Petersburg", and it was about 12,000 words long.
fandom you enjoyed writing for the most this year - Yuri!!! On Ice
favorite character to write about this year - Mila Babicheva
favorite writing song/artist/album of this year - I don’t generally listen to music while writing.
a fic you didn’t expect to write - Well, I definitely never expected to write a threesome fic that I would actually post! (I...may have written some privately. Ahem.) Also, Rare Ships on Bingo had me writing some pretty unusual ships that I don't personally ship at all, like Mila/Lilia and Phichit/Victor.
something you learned this year - That maybe I shouldn't sign up for so many events?
fic(s) you completed this year -
Yuri!!! On Ice
Breaking The Curse Je Suis Malade The Bonds We Choose Time To Say Goodbye Golden Moment Want and Need Only a Crush Sara in the Moonlight Graceful Lily Ménage à Trois How To Kiss 101 What Happens In St. Petersburg First Heartbreak Those Left Behind Vacation Time Unexpected The Ultimate High Choices To Be Made
Sailor Moon
Blue Christmas Fresh Start A Dynamite Surprise A Rough Night Chaperones
And an untitled and unposted Chibi-Usa/Helios wedding fic for the Drops of Moonlight anniversary zine.
fics you’ll continue next year - I'll continue the reposting of my old "Generations" series, but as for newer fics? I've actually completed all the stories I've posted this year, so next year, I hope to get back to some old WIPs.
current number of wips - Five-ish, I suppose?
any new fics to start next year - I intend to write at least two or three fics for the first annual Sailor Moon Rare Pair Week I'm hosting the last week of March, although I haven't really come up with any ideas yet other than a Chibi-Usa/Helios getting engaged one-shot. I’m also mostly done with three one-shots for the YOI version of Rare Pair Week, which begins the first week of the year.
number of comments you haven’t read - None. I read all my comments as soon as I notice them in my inbox.
most memorable comment/review - Well, this one is pretty recent, so it's still fresh on my mind, but I really loved the comment @taedae-nextrea left me on “Want and Need”:
I really appreciated the respect you showed both sides in this story, ace and allo. And that you showed blended sexualities can work, with the right pairs of people. Sure, it's not easy but no relationship is, regardless of anyone's sexualities or identities. I was also very intrigued that you had Yura as the ace character. I feel like a lot of people would have swapped them. I love it either way. But it's also kind of nice when characters are represented in more 'unexpected' ways.
I relate to Otabek really hard in this fic. So to see you've written him saying the same things I've said to someone I love very deeply as well, it's such a lovely feeling. Much like any kind of representation, I'm glad to see an allo character not be an asshole toward their ace partner.
events you participated in this year - Oh, gosh, way too many! Let me think... YOI Rare Pair Week, Rare Ships!!! On Bingo, Otayuri Week, YOI Spooky Week, YOI Secret Santa, YOI 5th Anniversary Event, YOI Big Bang, Sailor Moon Holiday, Moonlight Legends Discord Secret Santa, and the Drops of Moonlight zine. I think that's everything?
fics you wanted to write but didn’t - Well, I was planning to write a Mari/Georgi fic for next week's YOI Rare Pair Week, but I only had a vague idea for it and couldn't really figure out where it was going, so I dropped it. I might go back to it in the future, though.
favorite fic you read this year - Oh, this is always so hard... "Undiscovered Country" by shysweetthing, I suppose?
a fic you read this year you would recommend everyone read - Ditto. "Undiscovered Country" -- it’s really good! Oh, and “Sailor Moon 4200″ by Angus MacSpon, if reading a new chapter this year counts? One of the best Sailor Moon fics ever, even if it did take a decade for the new chapter to come out...
number of favorites/bookmarks you made this year - Apparently about 500 bookmarks on AO3? But a good number of them are old links I imported from my FF.net favorites.
favorite fanfic author of the year - My favorite authors don't really change from year to year, so I guess I'll just go with last year's answer to this question -- @floraone and @allekha!
longest fic you read this year - Well, if the question takes into account stories I'm currently reading and haven't finished yet, then the longest is almost certainly "Beneath Your Beautiful" by EmHunter and Bunnycube at almost 330,000 words. But going by fics I've actually finished reading this year... I think it's probably "on growing;" by crossroadswrite at around 140,000? I don't feel like going through all my (500!) bookmarks from this year to check, but it's definitely one of the longest, at least!
shortest fic you read this year - I honestly don’t remember.
favorite fandom to read fic from this year - Yuri!! On Ice and Sailor Moon

Year in Review 2019
Total word count:
Total fics written: 24 (a LOT of these are less than 1k)
Fandoms written in: BNHA, Yuri!!! on Ice, Harry Potter, Free!, and MCU
Chronological list of fics (in the order posted on AO3, not written)
Romance at the Roasted Bean (Harry/Draco, T, 1k) - Draco has a secret admirer.
Start With a Cold Brew (Victor/Yuri P, E, 5k) - Coffee Shop AU (this was technically written in 2018 but was in its exclusivity period for Victurio Anthology)
the music plays bitter, plays sweet (Harry/Draco, M, 1k) - Angsty with a hopeful ending of Harry’s marriage to Ginny ending.
The Taste of Something Different (Harry/Draco, T, 1k) - Harry is getting increasingly frustrated with his Auror partner’s inability to get him the right food.
Shining Bright (JJ/Yuri, T, 5k) - Five times JJ fails at asking out Yuri and the one time he succeeds (another 2018 fic in exclusivity for YOI Litmag).
The 80th Floor (Kirishima/Bakugou, M, 1k) - A deleted scene from the BNHA movie answering the question of how krbk ended up on the 80th floor.
Scars You Can’t See (Kirishima/Bakugou, G, 300 words) - Kirishima trying to comfort Bakugou after Kamino.
Strawberries (on your lips) (Kirishima/Bakugou, T, 900 words) - Studying with Kirishima turns into something unexpected.
The Bakugou Problem (Kirishima/Bakugou, T, 2k) - The Bakusquad decide to get Kirishima and Bakugou to date. Chaos ensues.
Fate Can Suck It (Kirishima/Bakugou, T, 3k) - Soulmate AU
I’ll unfold before you (Kirishima/Bakugou, E, 2k) - Post BNHA movie (and a sort of sequel to The 80th Floor)
Morning Light (Kirishima/Bakugou, T, 400 words) - After their first night together, Kirishima wakes up with Bakugou in his arms.
the fear of seeing death without ever loving you (Steve/Tony, E, 3k) - Steve returns the stones to their proper place but can’t help but see Tony one last time.
Truths in Letters (Harry/Draco, T, 5k) - Harry and Draco participate in a Guess the Penfriend inter-house unity game with interesting results. Epistolary fic written with just_another_loser.
Win-Win (Kirishima/Bakugou, E, 1500 words) - Bakugou likes that Kirishima can take his blasts. Kirishima just likes Bakugou.
Dare Me (Kirishima/Bakugou, T, 1500 words) - Uraraka gives Bakugou a dare. Eijirou isn’t sure what to think of it.
First Date (Kirishima/Bakugou, T, 1k) - Going from best friends to boyfriends isn’t the smoothest transition, but Bakugou and Kirishima make it work. (fun fact - this fic is based on @icicle33‘s Sims characters).
so good to be yours (Makoto/Haru, E, 2k) - Makoto visits Sydney while Haru is at a training camp for the Olympics. While things are awkward at first, they find their rhythm together again.
The Note (Kirishima/Bakugou, T, 1500 words) - Kirishima leaves a note to Bakugou on his desk confessing his crush to him. Humor and misunderstandings ensue.
everyday i want more of you (Kirishima/Bakugou, T, 2k) - Seven somewhat connected 300 word drabbles written for Chill November. Basically all krbk fluff.
Out of the Slipstream (Kirishima/Bakugou, E, 15k) - The professional road cycling AU no one asked for but I wrote it anyway.
Beauty, Like the Night (Iida/Aoyama, M, 10k) - A classic example of having to write the fic you want to read. Iida has a crush on Aoyama but it isn’t proper for a future hero to lust after his classmates.
Spark (Endeavor/Hawks, E, 2k) - When what Keigo thinks is a casual hookup suddenly becomes something more.
There’s also a week’s worth of BNHA Fluff Week Drabbles I wrote in June.
From my past year of writing…
My best story of this year: Honestly, probably my Stony fic. I was so raw after Endgame and this fic was screaming to be written. My most popular story of this year (by kudos, comments or notes): Stony again. One of those rare times I agree with stats.
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Take a chance on The Note? It’s only 1500 words. Most fun story to write: Beauty, Like the Night. Iidayama is my favorite rare ship and I fucking love Iida so much. Hardest story to write: Probably my cycling au. After thinking about this fic for so long, I really got in my head about it and didn’t feel like anything was good enough. Biggest disappointment: My drarry fics have been pretty off as of late. It doesn’t help when I have krbk basically always on my mind. Biggest surprise: Fun fact - I’m not a big fan of soulmate au tropes so I was pretty surprised Fate Can Suck It was so well received lmao. Honestly though I’ve warmed up to the genre since I wrote this one.
Most unintentionally telling story: Probably Stony again. I usually self insert into Tony but this time I went way into Steve.
Favorite Opening Lines: “We have a problem.” The Bakugou Problem
Favorite Closing Lines: “For now, they can sleep.” the fear of seeing death without ever loving you
Reflection time Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted? I wrote a lot less. My goal was 100k and I ended up just shy of 65k. What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? BNHA/Kiribaku/Endhawks. I fell pretty hard for krbk at the end of the first season then came the sports festival and their beautiful ship moments just kept coming. Endhawks I have no excuse other than they’re hot af together and so much opportunity for angst with feelings. What’s your own favorite story of the year? Dude idk. A lot of what I wrote was fun ficlets. I’m gonna have to go with either my cycling AU or iidayama. I know I said I struggled with the cycling au but I’m fairly happy with how it turned out. Did you take any writing risks this year? Not exactly. The Stony was definitely different from my usual style. Do you have any fanfic goals for the new year? Gonna shoot for 100k for 2020 again. I’m doing the Tododeku Big Bang and then I have two Kiribaku ideas I’m going to write. One will be a oneshot and the other will likely be a longer fic. I’d also like to do some sort of drabble event because I really enjoy the challenge with a limited word count.
Decade wrapped
If you’re still with me, I want to briefly reflect on my decade of fanfiction. I’ve been writing fic since 2002 but I fell in and out of it through high school. I didn’t really get back into writing until 2010 toward the very end of college. I met @icicle33 thru ffnet at the end of 2011 and she introduced me to LJ events and fests and exchanges and my writing style developed a ton. I fell out of it a bit in the middle of the decade but came back in full force in 2017 (thanks again in large part to Icicle), especially once I joined YOI fandom. In this decade, I’ve written/posted roughly 600k words (I feel like the distinction is important because I also have about 100k of unposted WIP/outline/nonsense). I’ve made friends, enemies, laughed, cried, met multiple fandom friends irl including my darling @phaytesworld and Icicle, modded and written for zines, and so much more. Writing has always been a way for me to explore a different side of myself, to play in a sandbox with no stakes. I can’t imagine where I would be without it. Here’s to another 10 years and you can bet in 2029 my old ass will still be writing. Should the world have ended by then, you can find me in hell writing porn.

Day 17: Share a Memory YOI Related
Tumblr media
So this is a little personal, but when YOI came into my life I was going through a rough patch, kind of still am 2018 has been a crazy year, but I was at a convention last year and was totally having a panic attack because I was in a knee walker and there were so many people and I just got really overwhelmed. One seller had anime goods and that had a Makka purse and it made me thrilled because in a dark moment YOI was really there as a shining light.
Tumblr media
The second memory is....up until like a couple of months ago, I’ve *never* shared my art public, *never*. But then I took it upon myself to give myself this Screenshot Challenge where I would choose a screenshot from YOI and try and have it colored in the same day...it doesn’t always happen, but I try really hard to post a new pic daily. It’s really hard for me to share my work, but it’s getting easier every day.

My very first art ever posted!
My last bit is about the amazing people I’ve met in this fandom, the people who really touch my life and bring sunshine into it when skies are grey. @yukipri makes the most beautiful fandom art I’ve ever seen! Her AUs are so creative and her world building skills are phenomenal! Her Future Verse gives me life! I got into A/B/O because of it! Not to mention my love of her Russian Sandwich. And um... *cough* *cough* her Star Wars AU... Check it out! Check it all out! Her updates always make me really happy! Not to mention her OC children who are adorable and I just want to adopt them all! @joeys-piano makes the most phenomenal audios I’ve ever listened to. I can literally listen to his interpretations on loops while I’m making art and writing because they, and his talent, are so inspiring. He’s so talent d, please listen to his audios! @crimson-chains her Siren AU and Mafia AU slay me! The talent she has with coming with these AUs and creating such story driven manga pages is just mind blowing. And her original is fantastic! Sine I’m so into to YOI I don’t look at too much art outside it, but man, her work blows me away I wish I had her skills! Check her out! @lucycamui Her Siren AU just has me blown away and I love re-reading it and can’t wait for its release! The way she writes her scenes, builds characters, and builds suspense is incredible! It becomes pageturning and I need it in my life. Check her out! @lusciouswhiteflame I can’t say enough about their Yuri Plisetsky art! I love him, but I love seeing him happy and in their work he’s happy and in love with their OC Alex, who is hot...in fact all their work is steamy and playful, I love it! Please support them! I bought my very first zines from @lusciouswhiteflame and haven’t been happier! @phaytesworld her writing is some of the steamiest I’ve read and her slow burns slay me! Okay, just flat out kill me, I live for her updates! Her rare pairs make me so happy and her confidence in posting her works inspires me immensely. I’ve not posted my writing yet because it’s not of caliber, but she inspires me. @geekmom13 one of my first followers and someone who makes me happy! I don’t have many followers, hopefully one day, but I appreciate anyone who takes them time to view my work. It means a lot to me. And her Harry Potter and catposts gove me life!
I can’t list every person who’s made me happy with their posts, art, and stories! These are just the ones I know off the top of my head! This fandom has given me sunshine in such a cloudy year, I wouldn’t be where I am today without the amazing influences of these and so many others. I can’t thank everyone enough!
So...this was more than a little personal, but these are my happy memories. Please enjoy!
Thank you so much for stopping by! Please feel free to reblog with much love but please don’t repost without permission.
Good night all!

About Me As A Writer
Tagged by @shitabukenjirou ~ <3
1. How did you come up with your username and what does it mean? Foxyena and FoxyenaArts is my name for all platforms. It makes me easy for commissioners to find, and dates back to my years doing furry art commissions, which is also where the name originates.
2. Which fanfic of yours has the most feedback? (bookmarks/subscriptions/hits/kudos).
Well, the most hits & kudos is Skipping Practice with nearly 17k hits and ~630 kudos, but Courtship of the Owl has the most subscriptions and bookmarks.
3. What is your AO3 profile icon, and why did you choose it?
The same as the one I use here. I tend to only use one icon for all sites at once, and I love Matsukawa + glasses and smoking aesthetic so~
4. Do you have any regular/favourite commenters?
I do! I don’t know most of their tumblr usernames, but there certainly are a few lovely people I am always excited to see comments from.
5. Is there a fanfic that you keep going back to read again and again?
Honestly, there’s a few. I reread fics a lot, but my favorite that I find myself always coming back to is  Lust and Lies by DeathBelle aka @worthlesspride.
6. How many stories are you subscribed to? How many do you have bookmarked?
I currently have 253 bookmarks and 223 subscriptions.
7. Which AU do you find yourself writing the most?
I don’t have a particular AU. I have ~50 fics in progress and aside from those in a series, they vary from Transhumanism/Cyborg AU to cute lil’ Coffee Shop AU. I actually try really hard to have variety.
8. How many people are subscribed and bookmarked to you in total? (you can view this on the stats page)
348 Subscriptions and 525 Bookmarks
9. Is there something you’d like to write about but are afraid of people judging you for it? (Feeling brave? If so, share it!)
I have a TenSemi fic titled Human Juice that is literally nothing but all of my kinks out in the open and I’m so sorry for anyone who chooses to read that whenever I release it. It has everything from Erotic Electrostimulation to Blood Play and more. So much more. If you wanna know more about it, feel free to ask I guess lol.
10. Is there anything you would like to be better at? Writing certain scenes or genres, replying to comments, updating better, etc.
Fluff and just.. happy things. I thrive on painful/angsty/poetic forms of writing and I struggle with just letting them be happy for once.
11. Do you write rarepairs or popular ships more often?
Both! Right now my posted works are mostly popular ships for main ship, but I have dozens of fics in the works for rare pairs like MatsuKuro, GoshiShira, SemiSuga, OiYama, and more. Courtship of the Owl even has Komori/Konoha in it.
12. How many stories have you posted on AO3 to this day (finished and unfinished)?
Only 9, but that is about to change real soon ‘cause Avery here has no self control and can’t write just one fic at once apparently.
13. How many stories do you have saved in/with your writing program?
63 total. 7 of them are for YOI, and the rest are all Haikyuu!!
14. Do you write down story ideas, or just keep them in your head?
I write down all of them. My process actually starts with coming up with a title and creating a premise and theme around the title of the fic.
15. Have you ever co-authored a story?
Yessir! I have co-authored 2 works with @tettsuroo, though one is not complete yet.
16. How did you discover AO3?
I honestly don’t remember.
17. Do you consider yourself to be a popular or famous author in your fandom(s) on AO3?
Absolutely not.
18. Do you have a nickname or fandom name for your readers?
nnnnoooo?
19. Was there an author who inspired or encouraged you to write?
Several, but most notably was @worthlesspride, @tettsuroo, and @kaiyouchan.
20. What writing advice would you give to a beginning author?
Learn from other authors. Pay attention to what you like about their works and learn from your peers. Don’t be afraid to reach out, make friends, and create a network of support around you. Learn from others, but always be you.
21. Do you plot out your stories, or do you just figure it out as you go?
I’ve done both. Courtship of the Owl has a 22 page outline detailing everything that happens in it, while Petals of Pining never had an outline at all. One-shots normally don’t get outlines either. Just lengthy, detailed multi-chapters that have complex plots and subtle details/foreshadowing.
22. Have you ever gotten a bad comment on a story? If so, what did you do?
Yes, I have. Someone who I had read and commented on their work supportively commented on one of mine; they disagreed with the ending I wrote and tried to “fix” it, telling me what should have happened and ending the comment saying something similar to “now all is right with your world”.  I simply commented stating I had revoked any and all support/comments/bookmarks of their work and that I didn’t want to associate with someone who thought that was appropriate behavior.
23. Is there a certain type of scene that you have a hard time writing? (action, smut, etc..)
I struggle with scene transitions sometimes. How does one get from point A to point B...
24. What story(s) are you working on now?
You Can See My List of Current Projects Here But Courtship of the Owl and my Secret Santa ficlet + art is my primary focus atm. That list is roughly in priority order. Roughly.
25. Do you plan your next project(s) before you finish your current ongoing story(s)?
I mean... have you seen my Current Projects list?
26. Do you have a daily writing goal set for yourself?
Mm not really. I try to at least work on something daily, though. The amount may vary depending on how strenuous my job was that day or if I had time to be on the computer or if I was writing on my phone.
27. Do you think you’ve improved as a writer since you first started?
Sometimes I wanna vomit when I read work that I wrote only a few months ago so I would assume so, yes.
28. What is your favorite story that you’ve written?
Demons Wear Contacts.  It’s not released yet, but it’s a Demon!Matsukawa MatsuHana fic. I’ve never had so much fun writing before. The fic is in Makki’s perspective, and will be my next multichapter fic after Courtship of the Owl is done.
29. What is your least favorite story that you’ve written?
My early works, especially the YOI ones. I had never really written before and while I’ve still only been writing for about a year now, they make me cringe so hard. I’ve been thinking about orphaning them, honestly.
30. Where do you see yourself (as a writer) in 5 years?
Probably doing the same thing I am now, maybe for a new fandom.  I hope to do more zines though. I’ve quite enjoyed those.
31. What is the easiest thing about writing?
For me, it’s sensations. I love writing what people feel, the emotions, the sensations of touch, taste, see, etc. Or planning. I’m really good at plannin’ stuff.
32. What is the hardest thing about writing?
Finding the time and energy to dedicate to doing it. Also writing fluff. I’m so bad at writing happy things, you guys.
33. Why do you write?
It’s something I enjoy, and it’s another way I can be part of a community, a network of people who enjoy what I do and I can build friendships with.
