Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gorgeous views of Yosemite Falls from the south side of the valley Loop Trail.
Still visible snow on the higher elevation spots.
Golden hour lighting on the face of Half Dome and Washington Column as we head back to camp.

Ravens Like Cheese Crackers. Yay.
We fed some of the wild ravens in Yosemite cheese crackers. There was a bonded pair of wild ravens, one of which had an injured wing. We stayed long enough to make sure each one got crackers as well as a little cheese. People in Yosemite are kind to ravens it seems, and the injured one seemed happy with her mate. Ravens are remarkably good at taking care of themselves and those that they love. In this case, since we knew she could even fly a little, it seemed best to leave her with her tribe instead of a wildlife rescue. (I am guessing from the body type and behavior that the injured one was female.)

So even though I had sold off most of my SNES, I still have a few left that are not strictly RPG’s.
Bugs Bunny Rabbit Rampage hopped onto the SNES scene in 1994, bringing the beloved Looney Tunes character to life in a whimsical action platformer.
Join Bugs Bunny as he faces off against classic Looney Tunes adversaries in a series of wacky challenges. The game is light-hearted & humorous, perfectly capturing the spirit of the beloved cartoon series.
Gameplay in Rabbit Rampage is a mix of platforming and puzzle-solving, with players guiding Bugs Bunny through various levels inspired by classic Looney Tunes settings. From dodging Elmer Fudd's traps to outsmarting Yosemite Sam, each level presents a unique challenge that will keep players entertained and engaged.
The colorful & cartoony graphics of Bugs Bunny Rabbit Rampage perfectly capture the charm and nostalgia of the classic Looney Tunes cartoons. Each character is faithfully recreated in sprite form, and the environments are filled with vibrant colors and whimsical details.

Since it's "Flashback Friday", here's a piece I wrote a few years ago, about one of my favorite NES games of all time, the Kemco classic, The Bugs Bunny Birthday Blowout! This game was made/released to celebrate Bugs' 50th birthday, and it was also one of the first games I rented when I finally got my own NES (and later came to own). https://retrorevelations.blogspot.com/2020/02/forgotten-gems-bugs-bunny-birthday.html

Yosemite 2024, Day 4
Valley Loop Trail Hike Pt 3
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lower Yosemite Falls. Lots less water than last year where most of these rocks were submerged, still beautiful. Lots of people here, as it's the most accessible of any of the falls in the valley with a paved walkway from a shuttle stop. We of course dropped in from the Loop Trail near where all these people were gathering.

Even the computer I used with 8core cpu and 8 GB RAM had crash 3 times.1. I have more than a dozen of computers fulfilled the minimum requirement and they all crashed in my yesterday photogrammetry lab course. So the minimum requirement may be ok for previous versions of Pix4Dmapper program, It is however no true for the latest Pix4Dmapper program. It is however ok if we use better computers. I always have the same results of crash Pix4Dmapper. According to previous articles, step 3 uses no GPU resource, I have tried lower the dsm resolution (from1 pixel to 3 pixels) and use only part of cpu (7/8) and RAM(7/8 GB). I also try Agisoft Photoscan, it is ok to process the same photos. It was ok last year in my class doing the same exercise.

The computers fulfilled Windows 10 64 bit, 4G RAM, more than 10GB harddisk free space and any video card. After we have upgraded to the latest Pix4Dmapper on our 16 lab computers, no one computer can pass step 3 (21/23 of 3D map) when we processed 12 digital aerial phohos (84 Mpixel each). In my photogrammetry class we had similar problem.

Just to tie in my two themes this month----
Additional notes, because poll options apparently limit their characters:
Frodo finds great peace in watching the tides rise and fall throughout each day. He attends all the ranger programs on birds and seashells and fills pages with sketches and poetry.
Sam meticulously selects postcards in the gift shop for each of his friends and spends a whole morning writing and addressing them. He also buys Junior Ranger hats for his kids and a variety of Appalachian jams for Rosie.
Park rangers launch a Missing Person search for Aragorn when they realize his car's been parked at Avalanche Creek for three days. The search runs for almost a week before he comes strolling out the opposite side of the park, supporting one of the SAR techs who twisted an ankle during the search.
Legolas is first drawn to Olympic for the towering, mossy temperate rainforests, but the ground goes out from under him when he steps onto Second Beach for the first time. He spends an entire day watching the light and tides shift on the sea stacks, and he leaves feeling both full and hollow, like a bell that's just been rung.
Mammoth is only Gimli's first stop on a cavern tour, followed by Jewel and Wind Caves and Carlsbad Caverns. Wind Cave is his favorite for the unusual formations. He makes an obnoxious tween boy cry in Carlsbad for breaking off a speleothem.
Boromir is on a tour of military parks. He asks so many questions to the intern working the info station at Fort Sumter the kid has to go find the park historian. His favorite site is Vicksburg because that place was buckwild, though he silently judges one of the reenactors for his clumsy handling of a black powder rifle.
Merry also makes stops in Jurassic and Dinosaur National Monuments. He watches every park video, takes selfies in front of all the fossil exhibits, and earns his Junior Ranger badge at each one. He buys a keychain for Pippin.
Pippin actually gets four citations, mostly for trying to stick his hands in mud pots. He doesn't mean anything by it---he's just so delighted and curious about the bizarre landscape. He winds up with several thermal burns and dumps a king's ransom in the donation box on his last day.
Gandalf gets dinged by rangers for not paying the $5 fee for Trunk Bay, but he acts senile until they eventually decide to drop it. He gets postcards from everyone and responds to none of them.
Faramir and Eowyn are traveling together and do many of the same hikes and rides, but they do have some different preferences off-trail. Eowyn drags Faramir to a rodeo and the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar in Jackson Hole, and he goads her into Ranger Shelton Johnson's living history programs on the Buffalo Soldiers in Yosemite.
Eomer is bike-packing on his sport cruiser motorcycle. He goes to Roosevelt south unit for the wild horse herds but ends up spending half a day watching a prairie dog town. He takes 400 photos of them, mostly blurry, and texts them to Eowyn.

Okay okay I'm behind on posting about my various adventures this summer, but let's just skip a few for now bc I wanna post about my most recent one:
Tumblr media
Glenn Pass. 12,000 feet of elevation.
Kings Canyon is one of several glacially carved granite valleys in the Sierra Nevada. Several other, smaller valleys feed into it, including the paradise valley and Bubbs creek.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Rae Lakes loop is a short but brutal route that starts at the floor of King's canyon, takes you up one of those side valleys, over the crest of the High Sierra, and down another valley.
Tumblr media
To get across that divide, you have to cross the notorious Glenn Pass. Not only is this the highest point on the Rae lakes loop, it's also one of the highest points on several massive through hikes, including the John Muir Trail and Pacific Crest Trail.
Now. The JMT and PCT people may have it rougher than me overall due to the sheer length of those hikes.
But.
Their campsites for the previous days are around 10,000 feet of elevation.
I made the BRILLIANT decision to hike from 7,500 feet, 10 miles up and over Glenn pass at 12k feet, and then down to upper Rae lake in one day. It may have been the single most physically challenging day of my goddamn life.
But holy shit, it was it worth it.
Tumblr media
This route absolutely floored me. My original intention here was just that this was my "final check" for the High Sierra trail- in terms of difficulty and conditions, it's basically identical, except half the length. I packed as if I was doing the HST, and used less than a third of my consumable stuff, so I feel more than ready for it.
I was expecting it to be pretty, but I was not expecting it to be one of the most gorgeous couple days of my life. Yosemite can suck it. The granite valleys and cliffs of Kings Canyon and the paradise valley are my new favorite glacial valley in the Sierras.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that's not even mentioning the wildlife! I mostly recorded video of them, but I saw bears, deer, rattlesnakes, mountain kingsnakes, pikas, marmots, tons of different birds, and more that I'm probably forgetting! If there's any interest, I might start posting the videos I've taken of me talking to wildlife lol
