Okay bear with me here because I've got brain fog and tend to word salad but I'm gonna try my fucking best--

Everyone who insists that shipping/romance isn't the point of Severance and that anyone who ships is missing the REAL point about what capitalism does is also missing the fucking point, because it's BOTH

Because yes, it's about what capitalism does and the evils of giant corporations. But it's also about love, and specifically two things about love:

1. That falling in love when you're not supposed to, when you're trapped in hell, is one of the most revolutionary things you can do in a system that wants to crush you into dust. In a system that wants you to obey, loving somebody instead of giving in or giving up IS the most revolutionary choice you can make. This corporation can tell you that you're less than human, they can torture you, but you can still carve out a life and a family and find romantic love, too

and

2. That you cannot create a version of yourself that exists solely to do labor for his entire life so that you can cease to exist for forty hours of the week to escape your grief, and not face the consequences of that action

I think I've made my point about the first one enough as is, so let me just get into the second a bit more:

Mark Scout was choking on his grief over losing Gemma. He drowned himself in alcohol to cope, and either lost or left his job that he loved. He took a job that involved brain surgery to split his consciousness in half rather than confront his grief head on; he can choose not to exist for forty hours of his week, and spend the other hours either drunk out of his mind or asleep (the consequences of drinking being something that bleed into his innie as well).

I think that anyone who's dealt with a traumatic and painful loss can relate to why he would do such a thing. Isn't it understandable, if you had a way to not exist for a while, that you would take it without hesitation? That if you were drowning and confronting it would mean more pain before it got better, you'd run from it if you could?

But what Severance wants us to do is go beyond sympathizing with Mark Scout: it asks us to consider the consequences. Because in severing himself for a reason people can sympathize with him for, he created a version of himself that exists solely to work for his entire life, with no breaks, no rest, and torture tactics when he fucks up-- no matter how small the fuck up may be.

A version of himself without his memories, who has trickles of his grief but none of the love to go with it. Who falls in love with someone he meets down there, because Mark S. was created so that Mark Scout could avoid his grief and his love for Gemma. And thus, Mark S. moved on, because he never knew anything else.

Then Mark Scout finds out that Gemma is alive. He reintegrates without his innie's consent, because he views Mark S. as inferior to him and entitled to his memories. Their relationship is inherently exploitative.

Mark S. and Helly's relationship progresses further. Helena Eagan stalks Mark Scout. And here's something that gets me: you have to have your head buried six feet deep in the fucking sand to not see that they were flirting.

A sane person would've run when Helena awkwardly bragged about who she was and offered to bring Mark Scout to her father. But Mark Scout escalates it, turning it into a flirtatious joke about her taking him home to dad. And yes, he does ultimately go for more brain surgery because he feels guilty and spooked that he was flirting with Helena. Because he escalated the flirting.

Again, you have to be deep in denial to not see that. It relates back to the point about how he feels entitled to his innie's memories and experiences: he feels guilty and unsettled, so he tries to absorb more of them in hopes of more glimpses of Gemma to help him find and save her.

Again, can't you sympathize with that?

And again, the show asks you to consider the ramifications beyond that.

(note: I am on the side that innies and outies aren't cut and dry separate people as they are the same base people with different memories and lived experiences, akin to amnesia)

The first thing that Mark Scout remembers is Mark S. having sex with Helly, specifically as he watches her orgasm for the first time while he's inside of her. An extremely intimate moment, and it's intentional that it's that and not another flash of Gemma. Because the show, once again, is asking the audience to consider the consequences of Mark Scout's actions in severing himself.

And Mark S. recognizes that Mark Scout is exploiting him at the end! Mark Scout demands he find Gemma, save her, and be willing to die (because even if he reintegrates, NEITHER of them will be the same-- I'll come back to this in a sec). He belittles what Mark S. has with Helly and the life he's made for himself. He dehumanizes him. Because Mark Scout created Mark S. to escape, to do labor for him, and again-- he wanted to use him to get Gemma and then cast him aside, furthering how he dehumanizes and exploits him... and there are consequences to that action.

Back to the thing about reintegration I said I'd get back to: the characters within show, and quite frankly a large swath of the audience, thinks that it's Mark Scout absorbing Mark S.'s memories, and just still being Mark Scout with those memories. And yet, the show has shown us that this isn't the case. Petey says his earliest memories of the severed floor feel as far back as his childhood! What I think reintegration does, is create a new version of innie and outie, with both their memories. And that it's probably reliant more on harmony of goals and desires than forcing it; but again, the outies view the innies as inferior. Even the people in the show who claim to advocate against severance don't consider the innies human enough to consider what'll happen to them.

And so of course Mark S. chooses himself for the first time in his life at the end of the season. Because once again, the show asks you to look beyond the surface and consider the consequences.

And yet, too much of the audience also subconsciously (or consciously sometimes tbh) thinks of innies as subhuman, and miss the entire fucking point. Yes, there are obnoxious shippers; there always fucking are in large fandoms, use the block button as God intended. But you are being equally obnoxious and obtuse if you insist that the show does not want us to consider love and romance, too. Because again, it's about both the evils of capitalism and how revolutionary love can be, and how you cannot escape your actions. You cannot separate those two themes, because the show uses the romances in the show as vehicles to explore the evils and consequences of capitalism.

So stop fucking saying everybody who ships things doesn't understand the show, and actually watch it yourself, because clearly you don't either.

Okay so I may be a little upset that Jedediah and Octavius couldn't get their original voice actors in the game, but however I am very happy that(whether with intention or not) they did make Octavius roll his R's whenever he spoke them. I like to headcannon that he does(or at least regularly does it with a lot of words) because in Latin, regaurdless of where it is in the word, you roll every R, and so he probably carried that over into English as a bit of an accent, as many other languages do when they speak English.

I can't emphasize enough that if it isn't published, it isn't canon.

The experience of any piece of artwork, writing included, is inherent exclusively to YOUR interaction with that work. It's about what YOU find in it. It's about what YOU think it says.

If you're going to the author for anything deeper than clarifying a simple point, whatever you're gonna get back is non-canon. At best, you'll receive what THEY think about the work, but the only thing that matters is what YOU think. If they failed to publish their ideas in that work, those ideas might as well not exist. Most people aren't going out of their way to consult with the author to get the secret Part 2 of the story, or to dig up little niche interviews. The story is in the book or it's not there at all.

This is a huge problem in fandom, where people are raising the creators to godlike levels so they can exist or die based on what the creator says.

Star Wars is just one obvious example. Massive sections of the fandom quote every minor thing George Lucas ever said in the most obscure forums in order to form their basic understanding of the universe ... and these things are not written or published anywhere. And then they can't handle when people quote from the real material instead of some other producer's report of what this guy said.

Lucas is not a god, and what he says about Star Wars doesn't matter. It's fun from, like, a concept art perspective. But the concept art is not the finished product, and if you're harping over his quotes as "evidence" to shoot down things drawn from published work, you're wrong.

You HAVE to understand that the author's interpretation, unwritten and unpublished, is no better than yours ... or anyone else's. Stop using someone else to tell you what to think, and stop putting yourself and your special little personal interpretation on a pedestal above other people trying to enjoy things too. What you have is a headcanon. It's nothing more official than that.

If you don't like the published work as it stands, too bad. That's your problem. The published work isn't going away or becoming invalidated because you think one little interview said so.

ALSO if the creator has some stupid opinion on something or has done something stupid, it has nothing to do with their published work and doesn't invalidate any of it. Someone's enjoyment of media doesn't make any statement about whether they support an author. That's a logical fallacy to think so.

Social media as a whole desperately needs to stop their invasive parasocial obsession with authors and creators. You're all fanatical followers even of the people you hate, which is hilarious. You live, breathe, die, and hang upon every word that even your most detested creator says. You talk about other people letting go, yet there you are still obsessing over their every word.

The irony is incredible.

Of course, be a hate!fan if you want to. That's up to you and your enjoyment(???) of life. But stop attacking other people living perfectly normal lives who are not obsessing over the Entertainment Weekly drama of creators. The media people enjoy is not a reflection of their character or personal beliefs. There's no exception. If you think there is, then boy do I have news for you about your favorite ships, tropes, and kinks.

Folks act like "maybe the author isn't the final authority about what their work means" is some wanky post-modern nonsense and not a simple recognition that a lot of authors are perfectly prepared to bullshit about their own work. Like, leaving big-name popular media aside, I have personally encountered authors being actively disingenuous about their own work for all of the following reasons:

A true answer wouldn't fit the image they've cultivated.

They've decided they like the explanation the readers/viewers have come up with better than what they actually had in mind.

Something that was originally intended as a standalone work ended up growing into a franchise or series, and now they're pretending that was the plan all along for some reason.

They don't want to admit that the bit you're asking about is genuinely just a plot hole.

The real answer gets into some shit they don't care to discuss, so they've prepared a cover story to explain away the parts they don't want to talk about.

Their politics have changed since they wrote it, but they don't want to acknowledge that, so they're constantly trying to re-interpret everything they've ever written to be perfectly consistent with whatever their positions are this week.

They wrote it decades ago and they honestly don't remember what they were thinking at the time, so they're just making shit up; sometimes they also don't remember what shit they made up the last time, so the answer is different every time they're asked.

The work in question is at least partly autobiographical and they can't tell the truth without confessing to a crime in the process.

Most of the good bits are plagiarised and they don't really understand it themselves.

They're lying to you on purpose, for evil reasons.

F/Obruary Day 13 - Dinner

Harper sighed, her chin meeting the palm of her overturned hand. She had a lot of patience, there was no doubt of that, but it was starting to wane thin. She had been camping out here, underneath the dining table of one Cooper “The Butcher” Abbott for at least four hours now, if not closer to five, waiting for him to return – hopefully empty handed.

Harper had been stalking The Butcher for about two weeks now, figuring out his routine. She had put together plenty of pieces of the puzzle through watching news segments and reading online articles about him and his killings, as well as listening to whatever profiling snippets she could get her grubby little hands on. She had also come up with her fair share of theories on her own true crime tumblr blog, painting some kind of idealized vision of him in her mind. Now, she was on the brink of something groundbreaking.

Her fascination with The Butcher, of course, surpassed the usual curiosity. No, she wanted to know everything about him, down to the smallest detail. Her obsession with serial killers had been a little extreme, and when The Butcher came along, a looming threat to her very own community… She was excited. It was sick, and she knew it, but she just couldn’t help herself. Each time he made a kill, Harper found herself falling deeper and deeper into her research. She would listen to police scanners, look at crime scene pictures… Anything to get her closer to the identity of this man she admired from afar. It was through these avenues that she was able to find not one, but two of the potential properties he used to plot and carry out his murders. When she wasn’t busy with her classes, she spent an awful lot of time near them, hoping she would one day catch the man himself – and one day, her wish came true.

She had been sitting in the park across the street from some abandoned condominium, pretending to birdwatch as she ate her lunch –  she needed a good excuse for the binoculars, after all. At the right angle, through a tear in the blue tarp hung over it, she could peek into the tiny window of the basement of the condo, catching just a glimpse of what was down there – and she had gotten quite an eyeful. In front of her own two eyes, she watched as a man, who she could only assume was The Butcher himself, chained up his next victim. Her pupils went wide as she realized his minuscule mistake – anyone could have caught a glimpse through that tear in the tarp, and as far as Harper was concerned, he was lucky that it was her. Unlike everyone else in the city, she had no desire to turn him over to the authorities. In fact, she had decided that if she had gotten the chance, she wanted to help him evade them. To her, The Butcher was like her very own idol, and she wanted to be his pet. 

She was pulled out of her thoughts when she finally heard the front door creak open, followed by the unmistakable sound of shoes hitting the hardwood. She smiled to herself. The hardest part was about to begin, but as far as she was concerned, it would be worth it. She was confident she could take him. She knew better than most which techniques he had in his arsenal, and she was one step ahead in terms of her location. She kept one hand on the pepper spray next to her, and used the other to verify that the knife she had brought was still in her skirt pocket – she hoped she wouldn’t need it, that she wouldn’t need to do any real damage to her dear Butcher, but even she knew it was better to be as “safe” as she could given the circumstances rather than sorry. She took note of the rope she had tied around her hips like a belt – she hoped it would be enough to restrain him.

Of course, Cooper was suspicious the minute he opened the door. Something wasn’t right. He could smell… Something cooking. He had never cooked in this house. He didn’t even have any food there. He swallowed thickly as he took his first steps. He had been found, and if he didn’t act quickly, he would surely be locked up for the rest of his life. He scanned the entryway, looking for something, anything he could use as a weapon – but this house was almost as empty as they come. It was his own fault, keeping the place bare bones. His bare hands and brute force would have to do until he reached the next room. 

Cooper, however, didn’t know who he was up against. As he crept into the kitchen, on the hunt for his intruder, he only made it about two steps before Harper launched herself at him, her pepper spray still firmly in her right hand. She was a full foot shorter than him, with a lot less muscle, but she managed to get her arms around his neck, her body wrapped around his back. Cooper tried to use his arms to dislodge her, but she was shockingly resilient to the way his elbows met her ribs. She spritzed his face with her pepper spray, then slid down to the floor. Cooper grunted, trying to stifle a cough. His eyes burned as he tried to evade her, his feet clumsily floundering against the floor. Still, she managed to get his legs tied, causing him to fall to the floor, hitting the hardwood with a loud thud.

He did his best to open his eyes, though they still burned, and he knew they would for a while. Squinting, he watched Harper’s face come into view through the tears. “You?” He asked, his voice hoarse from the coughing.

“Me,” Harper giggled, flashing a smile as she dodged his hand coming at her. It was almost like a dance, dipping and twirling as he tried to get a grip on her, to stop her from… Whatever she had planned – Cooper couldn’t be sure. In a matter of moments, Harper was able to grab his wrist, twisting it securely in her hand before making her way to the other, tying them up as quickly as she could despite him jerking her around.

It took quite a bit of force, but Harper managed to drag Cooper over to the kitchen table, leaning him up against one of the sturdy legs. She smirked, watching his face contort as he tried to make out what was going on. She wiped a bit of sweat off her brow as Cooper huffed and puffed. She had her back to him, tending to the ziti in the oven, but she could hear him struggling, still trying to get himself out of this mess. She knew he would surely find a way out of the ropes, so her time with him was more than likely limited.

“I can’t believe all it took to take The Butcher out was a little bit of pepper spray,” she remarked, turning back around to face him.

“You were in my house,” Cooper spat. “You caught me off guard, I’ll admit… But any other time, any other place, I could’ve killed you.”

Harper shrugged, carefully taking the ziti out of the oven and placing it onto the stovetop. “Hmm… You could’ve, sure, but I don’t think that would be a good idea.”

Cooper lifted his head, raising an eyebrow as he watched her. “Who are you? What the fuck do you want with me?”

“Don’t worry, I’m not gonna turn you in,” Harper assured him. “And I’m not gonna kill you, either. I’m just excited I figured you out.”

Cooper looked at her with curiosity, but still kept his gaze cold.

“I’m, like, your biggest fan,” she continued. “I’ve been following your… Work, we’ll call it, since I was, like, seventeen years old. I’ve seen every news segment about you, read every article… I know pretty much all there is to know about The Butcher. You’re, like, a celebrity to me.”

“And you wanted to, what, have your little VIP moment with me?”

“Well, that, and I wanted to make you an offer,” Harper replied. She walked closer to him, leaning over his body to light the candle she had placed on the table. “I don’t think there’s anyone out there who knows you better than I do… I mean, maybe your wife,” she commented, glancing at the ring on his finger. “Unless… She doesn’t know about this.”

“She… She doesn’t,” Cooper sighed. “I shouldn’t be telling you anything… Why am I telling you this?”

“You can trust me, Cooper,” Harper replied, letting herself say his real name out loud for the first time. She rummaged through the kitchen drawers to find a serving spoon, and pulled two bowls out of the cupboards. She made a bit of a show of serving the meal, taking her time as she scooped hearty portions from the casserole dish and tapped them into the bowls. “I hope you’re hungry, I made one of my favorites just for you,” she said, walking the bowls over to the table.

“I’m not eating your fucking food,” Cooper scoffed.

Harper pouted, bending down to meet his eyes. He was still seated on the floor, slumped down a bit, signalling that he had given up the fight. The ball was truly in Harper’s corner. “Come on, I put in so much work for you,” she whined. “I had to sneak in here, bring all the ingredients, cook the food… And I had to make sure you didn’t kill me. And, I mean, if we consider those weeks I spent figuring out your routine…”

“God, there is something so wrong with you,” Cooper sighed.

“Me? Cooper, you kill people.”

Cooper looked up at her as she stood back up, studying her. “Look, what do you want from me?”

“I want to help you.”

“Won’t work,” Cooper scoffed. “They tried, you know, when I was a kid… Didn’t fix anything.”

“Not like that,” Harper responded. “I mean, I want to help you evade the cops, the FBI, everything. I know everything about you – well, almost. But, I also know all of their tricks they try to use to catch you. I can keep you safe.”

“I can keep myself safe,” Cooper retorted. “What’s in this for you, anyway?”

“Well… I just thought it would be nice to spend time with you,” she sighed. “You could teach me, you know… How you do it. I told you… You’re like an idol to me.”

“Look,” Cooper exhaled, “I do my work alone. I don’t need some… Little girl fucking up my plans.”

Harper huffed, crossing her arms. “Well… At least take the dinner I made for you.” She crouched down again, holding out a forkful close to his face. He tried to dodge her, but she eventually got a few morsels into his mouth.

“What is that?” He asked.

“Chicken baked ziti,” Harper smiled. “Like it?”

Cooper nodded ever so slightly. “... Better than my wife’s, I guess.”

Harper’s smile grew. She offered him another forkful, which he accepted. She noticed his body finally relaxing as she fed him – the sedatives were working. She watched his eyelids get heavy, his blinks becoming longer as he began to fall unconscious. “Why don’t we negotiate some more in the morning, hmm?”

Hi! I assume you’re talking about this post? I’m really flattered you enjoy my stuff. Thank you so much!! I’ll echo what I said in my other post that I think shipping and yumeing with a comfort character is very personal and that little headcanons and interpretations can vary from person to person. At the end of the day, it’s about what YOU wanna see and reflect into your romance! I think taking the time to add your own lil HCs and lore is the fun part!

✨MORE✨ Leona Boyfriend Headcanons

Bedtime rituals are important: Leona mentions enjoying baths a few times, so I think that this quiet time with his partner would be his favorite, and Leona is even more motivated to do nightly self-care rituals. And when his partner doesn't stay the night, sometimes he "forgets" and does wear his braids multiple days. (Leona just mentions that you should come over and fix his braids if you don't like how he does it when you're not around.)

Unfortunately, he enjoys banter, teasing, and playfighting. Anyway, he can get a little rise out of you. NGL, he’s a super annoying bf that makes you wanna hit him sometimes, but in a lighthearted way. It’s never mean, only annoying. You'll become wise to his "tells" anyway, and realize he’s not serious (he’s very hard for others to read BTW) BUT you KNOW when he’s just pulling your leg.

Eating meals together is another thing he always tries to do, and works his schedule around this ritual. He likes the idea that you are getting enough to eat, and I do think sharing a meal is one of his love languages. Seeing you nourished and while indulging in delicious food (something he also enjoys) makes him feel good.

He doesn’t tolerate disrespect of you in ANY form, teasing is one thing, but he will never speak badly of you or let anyone else. AND HE’D NEVER IGNORE YOU OR ACT LIKE HE’S SIMPLY PUTTING UP WITH YOU. (✨No aloof BF here!!✨) In fact, he may get the habit of texting you TOO much. He’s a handful, and you are his emotional springboard in a way. He doesn't have many close bonds with others, so when he's away from you for too long, he gets restless and will start texting you what he's doing and why it is so dull without you. (He’d never pull you away from friends or anything because he's pretty self-aware of how needy he can be. We love a man with emotional intelligence.)

He’s not a TOTAL pushover, especially when “Coach Leona” comes out. He's not afraid to tell you when he thinks you’re wrong. A tough love session or two where he may just tell you you're too nosy and should be focused on yourself, or let you know when he thinks you may be going about something wrong. He DOES place you on a pedestal in his mind, and if he’s a little tough on you, it's just bc he wants you to be successful. He believes partners should be a TEAM and push each other when needed. (You’ll certainly love to boss him around!!)

Once together, he will NEVER request that you clean up after him or run errands for him. (Unless you really want to ig.) You're NOT one of his underlings or expected to be subservient to him in any way, you are his partner and therefore equal.

 All of Savanaclaw’s attitude will shift about you, and he will request that they should respect you. And hey, if you are tough enough to get with their “boss” then ofc they would respect you anyway without him even saying.

Queen/King/Prince/Princess (whatever you prefer) Treatment. He wants to spoil you but respects your independence. He’s studied you well enough by now to know when to hold back and let you take control. It’s cute…and VERY attractive to see you lead. In fact, he wants to see you at your best, commanding situations and building your skills.

✨BRO HAS A LICENSE.✨ And (I think) a secret car. He keeps it just off the NRC campus. He used to go for long drives alone along Sage's Island’s coast, but now he has company~ He’ll drive you anywhere you wanna go. These drives with you keep him sane. And he’ll take you shopping and dinner dates, most likely just mean-mugging the whole time or falling asleep on the bench by the dressing rooms. BUT HE’LL DO IT FOR YOU. (Yes, dear…)

His peace is your alone time together, without the noise of the outside world or others. Just curled up in his arms playing mobile chess or watching one of those boring history documentaries I know he's into. (Relationships are about compromise, okay??) He’ll let you choose what you watch, too. He's a professional bedrotter, so on those days where relaxation is needed, he's right beside you, asking you what kind of food you want him to order for you. If you wanna yap to him about the terrible book you just read, hey he’s fine with that too!

IMO Leona got his first idea of love from romance novels!! After being disillusioned, he ofc put all that “nonsense” to bed as a kid. But I like to think there is still a part of him who is a hopeless romantic softie. He's secretly dreamed of having a “great love” in his life and a strong partner just like his brother. Someone not like all the others, and who will always be there by his side. So don't be surprised when he pulls out a move or line that you’d NEVER expect him to say. (Maybe a dry delivery, but he’d say it!!)

Not always, but sometimes, Leona can be…strangely sweet, but HE MEANS IT. I do think he’s a bit socially stunted in some areas. As in…he doesn't always know what to say in intimate situations, so stealing a few lines from this “stupid book” he read as a kid is NOT above him. That’s what a prince would say, right? In fact, in trying to be so PAINFULLY logical all the time, he might apply “romance” he learned from books in real life to a devastatingly cheesy, old-fashioned, and endearing degree. (He’d never tell tho.)

I’LL SAY IT, Leona’s version of “lovey dovey talk” is talking in the third person.  “You know your lion loves ya right?” “Your lion’s been lonely without ya.” “Your lion misses his_” (Insert whatever cheesy nickname he’s chosen for you). Notice how he conveniently puts himself as ✨possessed✨ by you. Because that's all he wants!! It's cemented in his head. Before he’s sure you feel the same, he’ll make sure you know that he is, in fact, YOUR lion. No arguments. You have to reap what you’ve sown.

In public, these “Your Lion” quips are whispered under his breath, maybe even in your ear. But, in private, he’s fine with rolling over for you like an overgrown house cat, and saying these things loud and proud. He’s looking at you with such a soft expression, you wonder if this is the same intimidating leader of the Savanaclaw dorm you came to know at the beginning of the year.

He’s completely love sick for you. He hates this, but also ✨REVELS✨ IN IT. And what I mean by this is, I think “being in love” would be a bittersweet experience for Leona. He feels very deeply too DEEPLY. He's always been a sensitive guy, and eventually he will settle into a comfortable love…but after SO MANY YEARS of being alone, not just romantically, but without many close bonds OF ANY KIND, the feeling of love would make him feel sorta…sick at first. But, being the grumpy masochist we know…I think Leona would give in to this torture, become addicted to you, especially after you promise that you’re here to stay.

At night, he holds you a little too tight sometimes, but that’s because...he can’t believe you’re really here with him, and the thought of going back to how his life was before you were in it is more painful than anything.

2. When Jon is worried about the Leitners (ep 17 my beloved) and says he's going to have a discussion with Elias about it. And then randomly adds: I know he’ll just give me the old “record and study, not interfere or contain” speech again, but I at least need to make him aware of it.

which implies that a. it's so very usual for them to have conversations (about the institute and the paranormal and the statements) b. there were multiple discussions and conversations since the argument is "old" and they have probably been over this many times with super stubborn Jon and infinitely patient Elias (without knowing the plot it's fun to imagine Elias listening to Jon ramble but knowing the plot????? Jonah being so proud of his Archivist being this proactive but still that needs to be contained) (ahhhh I bet he was just as excited as Jon because of his enthusiasm but couldn't show it) c. Jon is super comfortable around Elias enough to bring up specific work-related points (instead of just taking care of them personally like how I imagine Gertrude would have done) and holds him in high esteem to discuss stuff thoroughly

Sometimes I truly want to sit into the Elias and Jon's dynamics pre-archives/Season 1 because (nottobepettyaboutpeoplewhoassumesjonautomaticallydislikeseliasfor???) I feel like it informs SO MUCH of how they behave later on. They clearly already have some sort of relationship that's based on both respect, freedom and guidance and, I feel, conversations.

"He's not smoking again, is he?" implies that Elias is not only aware Jon used to be a smoker, but has been at least involved in a periphical manner to Jon /stopping/ smoking, and approving of it. (Which, yes, drives me insane. We need so much more jonelias fics where Elias takes,, an active role in helping Jon stop that particular habit)

The fact the very first words that Jon adresses to the tape recorders are for Elias; that he's already discussed with him the problematic statements at all!

Jon acknowledging that Elias is the most knowledgeable man when it comes to the paranormal, which! again! I see so little people talk about but is a clear expression of Jon recognizing and admiring Elias's skills in his particular domain! AND is possibly the reason why he keeps coming back to him later on (and other people). Elias just! knows his stuff. And possibly he used to share a bit more with Jon :').

I don't know, the mere fact that Elias is like "Jon, we got a complain about you" and Jon only snarks "Fine, I'll be more lovely" and it's the end of it is insane to me. I know Elias IS known to be a passive boss, but EVEN SO. The freedom that's given to Jon, all along! Wild and beautiful.

"Hey, kid, where's your mom at?"

"She's taking roll call and checking supplies."

"Alright, you got the coordinates for your position?" The little boy told Senku their location and that their ships would meet soon. Senku hung up, and the crew looked at him expectantly. Most of the original members knew who they were meeting up with, but a few of the others didn't. He just shrugged and told them they'd see some allies soon. Senku went up to the deck, and a few others followed him.

"Hey! There's a ship approaching us!" Kohaku announced from the lookout, and everyone rushed to the ship's front end to spot the other vessel.

"Is that a fucking pirate ship?"

"Technically, yes." Stanley gave the junior scientist an unimpressed look. The vessel docked close by, threw out a boarding bridge, and joined the group on the Perseus. A line was shot out, and a boy with blonde hair zip-lined across and landed on the deck next to what they could tell was the ship captain. You scruffed up your son's blonde hair, let him run off to cause trouble, and went to go and greet Senku.

"Your crew got bigger," You offer him while shaking his hand. He huffs at you in return.

"Want an introduction?"

"I would have dinner first, young man." He rolls his eyes and leads the way to the dining area, announcing an early dinner, much to everyone's happiness. Ryusui announces a party at a reunion of allies, and everyone cheers. Carrying his crossbow on his back and holding his skateboard in his arms while trying to find clear ground to ride it on the crowded deck, he almost crashes when a strong pair of gloved hands saves him and lifts him in the air.

"Are you alright?" Stanley asks while placing the kid back on his feet. When the boy turns and faces him, he feels a strong feeling of whiplash while looking at him. He's the spitting image of himself from when he was a kid; it was a jarring sight. The child was watching him with just as curious eyes. Stanley drops down into a crouch to meet the boy in an eye-level gaze.

"What's your name?"

"Sonata…Sonata Snyder." Stanley felt his heart tighten in his chest, which meant after that night, This was his son, his and your son.

"Sonata!" You jogged down the hallways to see where he had run off so quickly. The second you saw who he was with, though, made you stop dead in your tracks; god, he was just as stunning as those nights in the club. You held your hand to your mouth, all the emotions welling up in your throat simultaneously. Stanley stood up, hoisted his son into the air on his hip, and strode over to you; you took a step back in surprise, but that didn't stop him. He grabbed your hand and made you look at him; the tears started to fall freely now.

"It wasn't just a one-time thing for me." You let out a sob at his words and felt a little hand rubbing the tears from your eyes; you looked at both of them, Your boys.

"It wasn't for me either." You kissed him with all the passion you had in your body. You heard a little gross beside you, and both of you laughed at your son; you showered him in kisses, and Stanley also decided to join in.

"That's your daddy, baby." You told him while messing with his little tufts of gold on his head. The three of you talked a bit more in the hallway before Stanley made a face and shared a thought with you both.

"Let's go meet your uncle Xeno." You chuckled to yourself about the torture the doctor was about to go through. Sonata ran off ahead, and you picked up his skateboard as you walked beside Stanley. He grabbed your hand again and pulled you close.

"Will you start again with me?" he asked as you walked. You looked up at him.

"Yes."

"An Elegant looking child. And the spitting image of you nonetheless, Stan." Xeno told both of you while looking at Sonata. The boy couldn't stop laughing at all the attention his new uncle was giving him. The doctor sat back down and let the child climb over him while the boy explained his crossbow when asked about it. The three of you couldn't help but smile.

"I suppose I have another little soldier now." You couldn't help but burst out laughing while Stanley smiled proudly.

"I'll have to construct you a unique firearm like I do for your Father now," Xeno spoke while holding your son's crossbow.

"Yes, please encourage his shooting habits." You tease while looking at Stanley, who looks ecstatic to have a new shooting partner.

"Yo, it's dinner time." Senku poked his head in, looked at the scene before him, and let out a small 'huh' like he finally concluded a discovery."

"That's who he looks like." He shrugged and closed the door behind him; you smiled again and looked between them, 'Yeah, that's who he looks like, alright.'
