okay so this one took me a while to write because this au is so...idk its a very personal and prickly little au and i adore it but i also have no idea how to talk about it lmao. but heres some rambly rambles for you.

basically there were two main things which drove me to want to write this one

i wanted to write nathan and mary being horrible melodramatic toxic as hell and, as a result, extremely hot. if nobody leaves this fic without feeling a little horny about either/both of them, i will be a sad, sad man

i want the hatfords to fucking suck

point one is self explanatory (evil people hot) but point two is this weird zone where like. i understand why the hatfords usually are written as either alright people or pretty mellow for a crime family in fic. its useful to build aus, theres really nothing in canon about them, its objectively completely consistent with canon, and i dont ever want to step on someones fun au of the hatfords. do whatever you like.

but at some incomprehensible point in the last seven (?) years ive been in this fandom, i developed a weird vendetta against stuart hatford.

let me be extremely clear; i can argue my case. i can give you evidence to explain why stuart should be a shitty, horrible person. but thats...mostly just because im good at arguing, honestly. i dont actually expect people to suddenly start writing stuart as a shitty person just because i got the fuck-this-guy brainworm.

but thats a little bit of why im writing this fic. every once in a while i see aus or interpretations that sort of implicitly assume that mary was paranoid and kind of stupid for not sticking with the hatfords, or that staying with the hatfords would have been a better childhood for neil/happy ending for mary. so this is my exploration of what if not that. what if the hatfords also sucked? what if mary went from one situation, that was shitty in one particular way, to a new shitty situation, which was shitty in a different but adjacent way? what if when she ran away it really was a choice between three terrible options (nathan, stuart or going on the run)? what if she had a hand in building that choice? could it have been different if she had acted otherwise? or was she doomed from the start?

and what if, along the way, i got to write about two people who flirted by escalating and extremely hilarious assassination attempts?

first order of business i dont trust qingque in the lab OR in a kitchen so into the elevator she goes. I'd love to say jing yuan for that one because then i could probably just take a nap for the full ten hours but hey she can teach me how to play celestial jade or something. at least there's nothing to set on fire.

fu xuan and jing yuan is honestly a toss-up based on how much fu xuan cares about the task. she would be so very insufferable but i trust her to get the job done when it matters...that probably means I'd perfer her as a lab partner. honestly not a bad option ive probably had worse partners than her. at least she'd do her half of the report.

that leaves jing yuan to teach me how to work a frier. sure, i'd let him do that. he'd probably teach me the ropes and then come to work like 30 minutes late and once in a blue moon. i wouldnt be killing myself with any of the machinery though so i think thats a win.

Starting off Context. We are discussing Hardcore World of Warcraft ruleset. There is a rule set built by the community that you have to follow to play the game mode and get a “validated” level 60 run. There is no Blizzard official servers as of yet. 

Ok so the acquaintance 

(A) starts off with asking me if I wanted to duo. "or full party?" 

 Me: mention only duo/trios are allowed. 

A: Well then by full I mean 3 

Me: Official servers I doubt will have grouping restrictions 

A: Although thats fucking stupid. Yeah official wont restrict it, coz its fucking dumb. 

Me: but under current rules you can't group unless you enter in a name for duo/trio at level 1

Me:  i mean a full HC party would be able to just blast everything no challenge 

A:  the game is literally made with the idea around a full party playing the whole game. that was like the whole concept of mmos at the time. 

Me:  ehhh only for group content like elite quest and dungeons. I enjoy my solo gameplay while leveling tbh. the one thing i hate about the non grouping thing is for named mob tags 

A:  it was after that they were like oh this kinda sucks ass for solo players and slowly rebuilt the game around it.  it was made that way coz they thought people would be running in packs of 4-5

10 Anti LO Asks

1. here's the thing, if rachel wants to go with the later blending of helios and apollo, then cut helios and put apollo in his role instead. he's a god of truth, it would make sense if he told demeter what happened to her daughter and others what went down, but instead she bungled it by having both of them exist as basically the same being, so im not at all buying she's as researched as she claims, if at all. thats such an amateur mistake to make and yet...

2. RS has the same mentality of Madeline Miller (though at least TSOA was good) in that they're fully convinced they're feminist revolutionaries who "push back" against the patriarchal systems found in mythology but only instead show how they actually hold rather awful ideas about women. Seriously, both of them LOVE having powerful goddesses be abused by their parents, depowered, and r//ped to excuse their bad actions, yet they still think they're progressive feminists for this. It's so gross.

3. TBH Rachel insisting Persephone was a perfect, noble can-do-no-wrong heroine from the beginning absolutely fucked it up for her, because now she's trying to make her "morally complex" while still excusing her at the same time, so it doesn't give us a complex character, it gives us a character who gets away with murder and is demanding to be treated like an adult yet refuses to do so and happily lets herself be babied at every turn. She's not complex, she's an immature brat who Rachel coddles.

4. The fact the stans excuse Persephone's wrath and murder rampages because of Demeter's "helicopter parenting" is so like ... hello? I had strict helicopter parents too, but I still know how to control my emotions and not want to murder/torture people. Also, most kids with strict parents are mature way before their times, while Persephone still acts like a child and wants to be doted on.  I don't think Demeter was as much of a helicopter parent but more so one who spoiled Persephone rotten, IMHO.

5. It's weird how S2 is being so dragged out yet is also so rushed all at once. Like S1 was over two years and only two weeks wentt by, and now we're almost a 1 1/2 into S2 and only a week and a half has passed, yet it feels so much slower and badly panned/executed, especially this trial plot line, which has no stakes and is not how an actual trial goes. I don't have high hopes for the rest or even the ending if this is the best she can manage with all the help in the world to make it good.

6. what i dont get is everyone excuses h annd p because "theyre gods thats how they are" yet the same mentally isnt given towards everyone else? like if thats the excuse, eros shouldnt have gotten in trouble for killing ppl, hera shouldn't lash out at zeus and his mistresses (esp since she cheats too), minthe and thanatos and thetis should be excused, etc etc, but theyre not while h and p are? i dont care if theyre the main characters, the lack of consistent morality and rules is a huge issue.

7. tbh the fact thanatos is now reconned to be the closest thing hades ever had to a son and yet he STILL treated him terribly and mentally and emotionally scarred the poor kid makes me glad he cant have kids. no child shouldnt be brought into the world with such a terrible man as their father.

8. tbh iff persephoen actually felt remorse for her crimes and wanted to own up for them, then she wouldnt have kept it a secret to instead only focus on herself and party then  run away and hide at hades (only to again shop and party and not care about this crimes she claims shes so torn up about) until they found her and she was forced to go to court. the fact she ran and hid until she had no other option is proof enough she doesnt really care & rachel is saying one thing but showing us another.

9. i feel like a lot of hxp stories (LO being the most obvious to use this) love doing the "HxP is the anti Zeus and Hera" and it's like if the only way you can prove hxp is a good ship is by comparing them to a torn down, most well known chaotic marriage to make your ship look better, then theyre not actually that good of a ship lmao. like if hxp cant stand on its own without comparison and tearing others down. then thats a bad sign.

i DO actually wanna know how youd make kotor 3 !!!!!

this ask has been sitting on my inbox for so long on PURPOSE! i wanted some time to re read the revan book + watch some swtor gameplays so i could give a concrete answer about why the book and swtor arent satisfactory and what i would do instead (im not like. a storytelling god so i this is just my PERSONAL idea). under the cut!

to begin with, what's wrong with revan the book and swtor, mai?

i am very fond of swtor i think it was such a nice idea to have an "open" world game set in star wars old republic time. but ultimately, it was not a good conclusion to revan and meetra's storyline! now, i don't really know what happened in the development of the third kotor game (if there ever was a plan for one) but it's clear they dropped the ball on that and decided to start a whole different project. i don't think we can blame disney for that one, because it was announced on 2008, launched in 2011, and disney had just bought star wars that year. so who knows.

the thing is that it's painfully evident that a bunch of the story that was gonna be in the third game, ended up in the book + misc parts of swtor. much of the book feels like a gameplay.

now, it was clear when the book was planned that they wanted to keep revan's story open so when the game came out, they could have a cool Revan storyline so he could make a cool villain appearence and draw in some of that kotor nostalgia. which ehhhhhh. uh. i don't really think did any favors for revan's character. he didn't have a satisfactory arc (I'm not saying "a happy ending" because good arcs aren't always happy) but at least some closure?

revan went through many big events in his life. we didnt need to keep his ass in stasis for his fun villain moments 300 years later. we already had what we wanted from him: jedi turned sith turned jedi again to defeat a terrible threat. that was it we could have let it there and it would have been cool! but then they decided to drag and drag his story just to leave him right where he was before. he just suffered a little more in the in-between.

you could say he finally redeemed himself of all of his crimes this way, but wasn't that the whole purpose of the first kotor game (and would have been the purpose of the 3rd?)

swtor does not centre revan in his own narrative. he's a side character for the player to experience. and look, i get it, we've had a different protag on each game, why not have another one in this one. well, because the protagonist has no personal relationship with revan. meetra was one of his closest friends, and fought with him. there is a connection that can be exploited. but the swtor protagonist is just some guy 300 years in the future who happens to stumble into revan and his life. not even his descendants get to fully interact with revan.

also, there is the fact that revan is not the centre of the game itself, only of a particular storyline. and it's weird, because swtor could have happened without revan's involvement.

so it's no news that star wars is misogynistic as fuck right. cause it is.

so you decide to make your gender neutral protagonist a guy. then you decide to make your other gender neutral protagonist a woman. cool. now let's guess who gets underdeveloped, turned into a plot device without reason, and promptly fridged in the most unceremoniously fashion just to fullfil some manpain moments. which one do you think got that treatment.

i know the revan book is supposed to be about revan, but why make meetra go through a whole arc just to undermine her character and turn her into the faithful servant of the guy? she leaves everything behind for him, sacrifices herself for him, hell not even dead is she not serving the guy. and she was the second game’s protagonist! she beat up a bunch of powerful people and now she’s just meh, there? she had so many interesting ways to interact with revan (meeting kreia, revan’s first master, encountering another force consuming entity, etc.)

meetra went through a whole arc about dealing with the guilt of doing something horrible and having the consequences of it cut her from the force. we see her broken, then slowly come back to the world and reconnect herself with the force, then stop running and face the consequences of her role in the war. thats such a cool character with tons of potential! and nothing happened!

then we got bastila who is. a whole deal. so you make her go through a “promising jedi who defeated revan, to questioning reluctant companion, to fell into the dark side, to was redeemed thanks to her bond to revan, who helped her come back because he’d been through the same experience” arc, and then you decide to push her to the side to have a baby?? which is... its clear that the writer didnt know what to do with her (or with the other characters outside of canderous) so hey, lets get her to marry revan and have a baby.

my ideal kotor 3

to preface, im not a game developer, so some of my choices could be stunted by what a kotor rpg can do lol. of course, it would follow the same mechanics and have the same format as the first two, because consistency!

the fun way to start the game, would be from scourge’s perspective. we get to play as a sith! i’d even say you get to change scourge’s name and gender and looks (i know sith have different looks)

in scourge’s storyline, we get from his arrival to normound kaas, to his talks with nissyris, to his missions working for her. in some of these, we can make scourge lean into the dark or the light side! fun! plus we get some exposition with dialogue options. it all continues untill we get to nissirys story about the emperor. we get a fucked up cutscene of his childhood and then BOOM when its over, we see revan waking up from a nightmare and their pov starts.

ok, as for revan’s story, since we’d have to pick it up from where kotor ended, i’d have a little cutscene of revan back into the ebon hawk, with bastila, and them telling the crew to take them to courascant. then cut to a council meeting where revan and bastila get scolded in private, then rewarded by the republic. i would also like to see some revan mournink malak’s death mayhaps. since he was their childhood friend and all.

i would 100% scrape the marriage and two years passed part. as the book said, the council had no use for revan aside from the legend(tm), so why would they stay in courascant. revan was very alienated from the jedi at that point, despite being back in the “light side”

then like, to revan asking around for meetra and other jedi from the mandalorian wars, we can cash in that atris cameo, then revan starts to have these visions about the sith emperor, and maybe we could get a playable dream sequence about revan’s fight with mandalore the ultimate (I KNOW I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT.) and we get the whole exposition to mandalore telling revan that the sith are behind it all. i believe we should get a bunch of these flashback/dream sequences of revan’s past doing shit. cut to revan burying the mask in a planet, then back to the present. we see a bunch of mission and juhani scenes trying to reach him, but he keeps pushing them away. revan and bastila meet canderous, travel to the ice planet, meet clan ordo (god i love clan ordo) you get the whole quest, you decide weather to spare veela or not, maybe you get a cheeky mandalorian companion (force sensitive mando oh?) and leave canderous behind.

we can visit like, a couple more planets searching for clues maybe, etc. then when reaching nathema, you are forced to go alone as revan, get to explore nathema a bit (raiding ancient location yay) nathema as a location can be so fun because you can have it weaken you hp bar and also you cant use the force (which, in game is pretty cool)

then we get to scourge and nyssiris arriving to the planet, they fight but since theres two of them and revan doesn’t have the force, they beat the shit out of them, and while running away, they get in a fight with bastila and the companions in the ebon hawk (ebon hawk shooting game my hated). bastila manages to get a glimpse of revan’s thoughts before they take them away. but the ebon is so ruined it takes bastila, t3 and the mandalorian a while to fix it, and they get stuck into the unknown regions for a while. the ebon hawk is left in an outer rim planet with t3 fixing it, bastila and the mandalorian run back to the jedi council, only to get caught in the middle of the jedi civil war. we can have bastila choosing to hide in courascant and trying to make sense of what she saw, reading texts about the sith empire, trying to plot a course to where they took revan (more atris! but shes pissed at her now)

cutscene to meetra’s pov, leaving malachor v behind, getting calls from everyone at the hawk (atton my beloved) but just as she’s leaving she gets a force message from revan, calling for her to find him and sending visions of normound kaas. then, through her force bond with visas, she tells her not to go because they’re gay and in love and whatnot.

then boom, she gets intercepted by bastila’s ship, with the mandalore and the other mandalorian (yes i do love having a bunch of mandos on board) and they go on their way to find revan.

now i want there to be an underlying message of “we can’t take our friends with us because we have to do this ALONE we’re powerful JEDI we don’t need our FRIENDS.” meetra gets asked if she wants to bring any friends and she’s like “no. we have to do this alone.” along the game you get constantly contacted by other game characters, you get the chance to talk to them or ignore them.

so, we get back to nathema, and meetra has a whole “holy shit this is just like darth nihilus but ten times worse. but i beat darth nihilus. i can do this!” then she finds peace in this place without the force, we get a whole speech about how the odds arent against them, they find a way to normound kaas, and get going.

in normound kaas i thought about them getting a whole mission about how to infiltrate the citadel, only to get helped by scourge. he joins the party, we get a little flashback of all the years he spent trying to make revan remember and they storm the citadel. we get to fight the dark council members, fun! then we get to free revan and the game switches povs. bastila hands the mask to revan and he has a cool “yes im revan im pretty cool” then a nice heartfelt yet rushed reunion with everyone.

then have a small CONVERSATION WITH MEETRA where she talks about the sith triumvirate she defeated and revan is impressed with her and is like “we are the last hope of the jedi, we’ve learned to walk between light and dark, we’ve done horrors but we can still make things right, our experience has made us more powerful etc.

then they fight the imperial guard, ALL OF THEM, meetra revan and scourge make it into the throne room, they all fight the emperor. meetra shows the emperor that she has seen the void, she has cut herself from the force, and she’s not afraid of him, revan supports her, talks about redemption and hope  and NOW.

NOW. how the alternate endings could go:

if you decide to take scourge through the light side, he manages to form a forcebond with meetra and revan since they’ve both teached something about the duality of the force, they get 100% stronger, but its still not enough. UNTIL. a bunch of ships (jedi and mandalorian, even non republic ships) arrive to dormound kaas, the gangs from each game storm the room and together they make the emperor and his guard a bunch of punching bags. they beat him! (unknow to them, this was a backup body because the emperor can do weird shit like that, and has only debilitated his plan, but he’ll come back dont worry). then they fly back to the republic, to tell the chancellor about the sith threat, and preparations for the war begin. meetra and revan get to live happily ever after for a while, then they die away from the jedi or the sith (waaah im thinking about them helping canderous rebuild the mandalorians, and them doing it since they killed so many mandos in the war)

BECAUSE IN THE END KOTOR IS ABOUT LEARNING TO PROCESS TRAUMA AND RECOGNIZE YOUR MISTAKES AND LIVE WITH THE GUILT WHILST TRYING TO FIX THE MISTAKES YOU MADE ALONG THE WAY. AND ALSO TO HEAL FROM TRAUMA YOU NEED A SUPPORT SYSTEM SO EVEN THOUGH IT MAKES SENSE TO YOU YOU SHOULDNT PUSH PEOPLE WHO LOVE YOU AWAY. AND THINGS AREN’T BLACK AND WHITE ITS COMPLICATED SO YOU DONT END UP BACK ON SQUARE ONE YOURE A CHANGED PERSON.

or

if you decide to dark side scourge further, he betrays revan and meetra, they all die, and the emperor unleashes his angry lightning or whatever on everyone + a bunch of visions of all the enemies of past mocking them, and their loved ones suffering. and since you’ve had that “im not calling my friends bullshit” no one comes, you die there, and the emperor is only stalled for a few years. swtor ensues. scourge becomes the emperor’s hand.

AND i think fo4 with is BoS leg humpy behavior they rEALLY could have pulled from fo3 story but they don't and it feels so week I have so much to say in how they could have done the BoS in fo4 but that's a long rant for another day

I personally find it funny that the timeline decided that the lone wanderer did all of their shit in a years time. Just seems funny compared to the other main characters who like the sole, spends years looking for their son. And the lone wanderer restore project purity and the distribution of clean water to the wasteland

then like. hypothermia. ryley kinda gets that! and THAT is also VERY VERY DANGEROUS, and thankfully the vesper survivors did their research on dealing with cold, bc theyre like the it reason ryley didnt die. and if anyone had asked DANBY how to deal with that, then like... danby barely knows anything of use when it comes to medical help. poor boy would have no idea what do. i mean, you can assume SOME things about hypothermia i guess, just get the person warm, but still. danby also totally fractured his own ribs, which causes Worry amongst the group, and danby DEFINTIELY doesnt know how to properly heal bones, so hes also makin that up as he goes. which freaks him out!! he doesnt want anyone to die!! but what if someone ELSE was hurt!! they could die if danby doesnt figure it out fast enough!!!! bad bad things that terrify my boy!!!

and the whole jeff thing is making everything Worst because danby already feels like he's a bad person for the fake degree, but now like, hes witnessed a full on Murder and hes being blackmailed into keeping that a secret! fucked up! and like, what if jeff attacks one of the others!! what if someone else dies and danby could have prevented it!!! im putting my poor through so much stress :( bc like, obviously telling them about jeff is the Better Option, but hes also terrified of jeff Telling Them and then having everyone hate him!! he doesnt want to lose his new family! but what if he does by telling them!! what if they think hes lying!! what if they believe jeff over him!! theres so many Bad Things that danby thinks can and will happen, so whats he even supposed to DO in a situation like this ya know?? i don't want to get too spoiled but like,,,,this is def not the last time the whole fake degree thing is gonna be a plot element. its gonna be pretty important going forward.....and perhaps someone else finds out 👀👀👀👀

an honest question - is shadowhunters actually worth watching? what i usually do with shows is watch just enough that i get the gist of it, read some plot lines, do a quick google search, purely because i want to be able to read new fic and understand tumblr posts. i started watching sh bc found out there was a bi character, but didnt make it past episode 2 bc the acting was so so bad. ive watched that malec youtube playlist and read fic and tumblr posts for a while, and in general i get by but~

~if im honest i dont know jack shit about raphael, maia (aside from the fact that shes hot as fuck), meliorn etc. I have a shit ton of free time now, so technically could watch the series to better understand everything, but is it worth the effort? ive heard terrible things about the show, and most of the fandom scares me but i enjoy a few blogs and reading fic, but think i would enjoy it better if i had watched it?? idk what im saying also sorry for rambling this is way longer than i expected

hhh ok life update here ig

anyways, back when i quit my job i noticed a dark black spot on my nail on my toe on my right foot, i thought it was persistent dirt but it didn’t go away. didn’t think much on it, prolly somethin dumb. it doesn’t hurt and i can’t really see my feet well cuz my eyes and glasses are shit, and it was dark in my room when i noticed it

today i still have it, so it’s been arnd 5 months, its now a brown colour and i think its smaller. idk for sure cuz when i first looked at it, it was dark, and again my eyes are shit. but now theres a larger dark spot on my left foot toe nail, it’s black. idk when i first noticed it but i know it’s been there for a while, too. 

no pain, i dont remember any injuries, they are on matching toes similar locations. it could have been shoes or stubbing them or something, im just not sure when they got there exactly and how.

so, the right foot one doesn’t concern me since i do believe its smaller as i normally wouldnt have noticed it since eyes shit, i only know its there cuz it was noticed previously. which means its probably a blood bruise from an injury i dont remember. the problem is the left foot, idk when it got there, its much larger, on the corner where the nail starts and it meets the skin. the darkness isnt on the skin, just under the nail. i dont have any comparison or anything for it, i never noted them or took photos so i have no idea if its gotten bigger or smaller, or when it happened

the problem here is that, this is either bruising, or it’s one of the deadliest cancers out there so YEEHAW !!! cancer also runs in my family so thats cool.

i am going to a walk in clinic on friday but ive looked it up and the only real way to tell is through a biopsy and i didnt fuckin look into what that entails all i know is it that it sounds fucking painful esp since its a nail bed issue. 

i am lucky tho my stepmom is gonn come drive up to come w me 0′’( i feel like vomiting and passing out and i cant feel my legs when i think abt just the idea of taking blood, i have a terrible phobia of needles. 

i would leave it to find out, cuz apparently it can take up to 9 months for a blood bruise under a toenail to heal, but ive already done 5 months w the one. and i really dont wanna risk that you know..? idk, ig id rather traumatize myself finding out im ok than traumatize myself finding out im very very very not ok.

the other thing is, i dont have any other symptoms. and i cannot find any symptoms for this shit, just the nail issue?? i have no excessive fatigue, no sickness or repeated sickness, no sleep issues, no weight fluctuation, no appetite issues, like all the stuff id associate w a compromised immune system isnt there. i tried to find other symptoms for this but nothing came up, instead all i get is “OO SPOOKY SCARY U WILL DIE FROM THIS IF LEFT UNCHECKED DID U KNOW A PERSON IN AMERICA DIES EVERY HOUR TO THIS TYPE OF CANCER AND 1/5 PEOPLE GET IT??? overall? hm. i mean................. there’s no denying that femshep got screwed over massively in the OT. i mean they were like ‘oh my god we dont have any hot aliens for femshep bc we never figured we’d get this far. lets throw a fish and a bird together and see what happens. oh but then give him terminal cancer and a son he doesnt speak to, and have him mention how much he loved his wife while you proposition him for sex’ and presented it with a lil bow on top. no wonder there were and still are soooooo many fics and art and comics out there rewriting the entire romance lmao. oh and jacob? cheats on you, knocks up another woman, names the baby after you. they wrote the black man doing that? like i know bioware is tone deaf but thats too much. and if you do decide to pursue vega? yeah. we all know what happens there. oh AND if you do decide to romance someone else in me2, after romancing kaidan in me1, he says you cheat on him. you cant call him out on it. however if you play mshep and romanced ashley then someone else, you can shut her entire conversation down. their justification btw was that, same with how kaidan doesnt use his biotics half the time anywhere like when eva core smacks him around the beginning, that it was too time consuming/expensive to rig an entirely new set of lines/interactions/everything, so it’s basically just. ashley’s stuff.

and that mass effect couldnt work out just what it wanted to be, even in the beginning, with being a new cool fancy space opera, but wait we still gotta be like. super manly. no one is gay in space. (like why bother recording the mshenko romance from me1, the mshrios one in me2, and then debating including mshakarian like hello. NEVERMIND tali, miranda, jack alone in me2 for femshep). and mshep can still pick up other romances in me3, however he can inadvertently kill his me2 love interest if he dumps them.

i love shrios. hate what happened with it. i played me2 first on ps3 (as obv me1 hadnt been ported and u didnt even get the genesis comics u got a longer questionaire with miranda and jacob), and so like if you play femshep, and say u saved kaidan.......... the game automatically looped in a romance. and i had NO idea who this bloke was, but his photo was in my cabin, and it ended up being face down lmao. i did go back to me1 eventually on the xbox, and played through with the romances but yknow. that will always be the funniest experience to me. like i love kaidan dont get me wrong but like. i had no idea who tf he was.

Sophie obviously has an interest in Adalia's species, to a creepy extent may i add. So yes it goes well with the theme of aliens!!! 2. The obsession of being heard, of being right, of being the one is exactly like her, she wants to be the one to find out and to be right about her theories, not to mention she's lowkey a narcisist so of course she wants to be recognized and special, to prove everyone who wronged her 3. This one is actually kind of spoilery, but the second verse of the song....specially the "youre the only person in the world who'd understand the meaning of this", i can reallly picture who she would be talking about and im just aksidofks. Yes. Oh and "im an expert, just like you" also goes well with the idea mentioned. And yeah alot of lines like "better to be laughed at than wrong" they all go really well...im sobbing.... This is one of those songs that i have like, an entire animatic in my head planned out till the very last part. Its been haunting me for so long okay.

I’ve literally seen six good metas already about the fighting styles in the bees vs Adam fight but the YouTube rwby critics will swear it sucks because “hurr durr they made Adam too weak.” At this point I’m embarrassed that they’re still calling their whining criticism.

the ones i’m dreading are the ones attributing Yang fighting ‘better’ as if she was a bad fighter until her father ranted at her for an entire episode (when her fighting style isn’t better, it’s dull and clinical and she’s not enjoying it anymore), acting like she needed his advice to be able to handle Adam when that’s just horseshit

Yang didn’t know what she was up against last time, she didn’t know how he fought, what his semblance was or what he could do 

“but she was too ruled by emotion and that’s why she got hurt” (oh yeah blame the victim, classy)

it’s a very popular lie that Yang was ‘too ruled by emotion’ and ‘had no control over her temper’ - Yang demonstrates a lot of control over her temper in the first few volumes if you’d actually pay attention and isn’t nearly as ruled by her emotions as people pretend she is (and blowing her lid isn’t a sign of her losing control when observation indicates she’s still controlling herself while angry - in fact on more than one occasion losing her temper and letting the rage out actually helped her re-focus)

people - and Taiyang - act like Yang should’ve acted like a goddamn machine on finding Blake lying there on the ground, stabbed in the gut by some asshat in a mask, and seem to think Yang had any other options in that scenario beyond a direct charge

any of Yang’s other techniques, or approaching him slowly, could’ve put Blake at further risk - either from Adam or the fallout of Yang’s own attacks - which is something Yang would absolutely want to avoid

on top of that, it’s completely ignoring the very extenuating circumstances of that situation

the fall of Beacon had been going on for a few hours by that point, everyone is stressed out and exhausted because they’ve been fighting for ages - Yang has more stress than anyone else because it’s been an incredibly rough 24 hours for her, with the Mercury incident, being told by some jumped up general that the world hates her and there’s fuck all she can do about it (seriously why couldn’t one of her teachers handled that? why does Tinydick Copperschlong have to throw his weight around with everything?) and then finding out that not only was she lied to her whole life again (Qrow telling her that, contrary to what she previously believed, that he had seen Raven since she left) and getting some idea that Raven wasn’t a particularly nice person (in fact it’s implied that’s when he told her about Raven completely, bandit leader and all, so she’s got that weighing on her) and now the school’s being attacked, she’s separated from her team and has no idea where Ruby is

so yeah, maybe when she sees something incredibly distressing and being goaded by her opponent, she’s gonna hit her breaking point and fly into a rage - but that isn’t representative of how she normally would react if it weren’t for the extremely specific and stressful circumstances

compare this circumstance, this is Blake and Yang’s only fight that day, all they’re really worried about is making sure this plan goes off without a hitch - so there’s no overabundance of stress. when Yang arrives, not only is Blake still holding Adam off but Yang hits him before he realises she’s even there - he had absolutely no control, unlike last time. and on entering the fight, she already has a better idea of how he fights and what to avoid from past experience

Yang was already an adaptable fighter, acting like she could’ve only adapted because she got advice from Taiyang - and not, say, because she’s a smart fighter with a functioning brain for whom the extremely generic and situational advice from her neglectful, bullying idiot of a father (”find another way around” yes, thanks pops, i will also try “not dying” and "breathing”, any other sage wisdom you got?) who clearly doesn’t understand her at all might not be terribly applicable, especially because looking at previous fights showed that she was already doing that - is ridiculous. she has a better idea of what to expect and adapts accordingly, she’s very quick in that regard, as demonstrated in this same fight where on learning how Adam’s semblance works she deliberately focuses on hitting him without hitting the sword

but i just know people are gonna attribute it to Tai ‘being such a great teacher’ and ‘Yang really learned her lesson from getting her arm brutally sliced off by an abusive shitstain - the message of that fight totally wasn’t that the heroes still have a long way to go and that the villains are brutal and monstrous or anything, no, Yang needed to learn a lesson and the only way she could learn it is by being maimed and getting PTSD’, or that once again ‘Adam got nerfed’ and it’s gonna be so annoying

Headcanons on how the ToG series might have gone if Sam and Nehemia had stayed alive? I’ve been pondering on it myself, since I want to write a fanfic kinda involving how that dynamic would have played out with the story.

okay so in MY head it goes a lil somethin like this:

In terms of Sam, the plot of the final story in TaB goes ahead as it does in canon- Arobynn tells Celaena that Sam is dead, BUT this time he tells her one of his spies reported they saw sams body in Rourke Farrans house.

So good ol celaena, like the big dumb chaotic aries moon she is and forever will be, goes to farrans house for revenge.

Except- its a trap to catch her, like it is in canon, and she ends up in endovier.

But this time, instead of grieving for sam and dealing with the fact that arobynn might have betrayed her, she believes both arobynn AND sam have betrayed her

Maybe because she doesn’t see sam in farrans so she thinks its a trap, or maybe arobynns plan to seperate the two is to manipulate the two apart by sowing that seed of doubt in celaena, knowing that she will return to only trusting him, so he plans to have celaena think sam is in on it 

Now when Sam hears celaena’s gone to endovier? loses it. He’s totally suspicious of Arobynn and enlists the help of lys & Wesley to get revenge/ and or get her out. 

I don’t know whether he would stay with arobynn- part of me imagines celaena being gone means he’d have to pay off his debts again or something, maybe he wants to hang around arobynn to gather more information about why he set celaena up

i don’t really think he could bear to live in celaenas apartment, because i think he’d feel REALLY guilty and angry.

so sam doesn’t succeed in breaking celaena out before dorian gets to her, and i think he as a character would grow a bit tougher and a bit meaner. maybe throw himself into the pit fighting a bit more.

so dorian comes to exploit  i mean free celaena, and then i think the plot progress as normal- in terms of how nehemia is introduced, and how their relationship develops.

[quick side note-i think celaena, still reeling from what she thinks is a betrayal, and then a terrible year, maybe does go through with the dorian half-romance b plot in the first book, and then can’t go through with it in the end. I don’t think she would go for chaol at all, because part of the reason she’s drawn to him is the sense of stability he provides, and because its a chance for the life she wanted with sam-  stability and sam-like traits work against her in this timeline; why would she be so taken when chaol says he’d leave adarlan with her? Sam promised to do the same and he betrayed her.]

Now in terms of Nehemia- like i said, the plot progresses as normal in terms of their relationship and interactions, and nehemias desire to force celaena to become the person she needs her to be- this time, NOT because she think aelin/celaena is the only one who can save her people or her country or whatever, but because her firepower and her country are valuable assests to the strategy nehemia wants to plan for her country/

and nehemia is working on dorian AND aelin at the same time, but she feels way less bad for dorian. She’s determined that this is what needs to be done, that it HAS to be done that way, but she’s really struggling with the guilt of watching celaena clearly struggle a year out of endovier.

I think she’d also be slightly, secretly angry at celaena/aelin- like she COULDN’T understand why and how aelin would want to shirk her role as a queen. And I can see that tension being there for a while as a response to nehemias guilt, maybe to mask it, because she genuinely has come to love celaena.

So I think it goes one of two ways- Nehemia fakes her death as a way of escaping the castle and the dodgy rebels to get back to Ellywe with the information she’s learned, making an educated guess that doing so will tip the emotional tether in celaena to force her to become aelin. aelin = firepower = fighting skills = terrasen army. jackpot.

OR celaena eventually confies in Nehemia, instead of chaol that she’s the Queen, and then its Nehemia who convinces the King to send her to Wendlyn.

And that creates a massive tension because celaena is like WHAT i JUST told you these people are literally related to me 

And she’s angrier than she’s ever been because this, to her, is betrayal no. 2

Maybe its that anger, instead of grief that fuels her revival as aelin. 

So then back to Sam- I don’t know exactly  if he’d be part of the Terrasen resistance, but I think maybe celaena being taken to endovier, run by adarlan tips him into Fuck Those Guys territory.

Either way, when celaena runs into Archer in book 2, archer goes back to sam to say GUESS WHAT

celaena is not only alive, but working for the king! she’s the kings champion!

Sam either takes this well: I cant believe they would make her work for them how terrible are they lets keep resisiting them 

Or he takes it badly i.e “You mean to tell me I’ve been working against adarlan FOR her this entire time and she’s been working for them happy as a clam? she just SIGNED over her life to the guy?? Fuck her”

Because here’s the thing- I don’t see a role for a chaol in a world where sam is still alive, because I think sam would fill the role chaol occupies in com/hof/qos/tod/- the bitter, jilted lover who felt like they gave up SO much for her and look what she’s gone and done that stupid bitch

Im saying this based on how sam confesses to celaena in TaB- he knows they are BOTH being abused by arobynn, he knows he’s the only one of the two that recognises it as abuse, and he still says to her that he can’t be around her if she “chose” arobynn over him. He doesn’t really….want to share.

OR option 3: In the timeline where Nehemia sends Celaena to Wendlyn, Nehemia herself stays in Adarlan and continues working with the rebels, one of whom is Sam. From Sam she learns more about celaenas back story and begins to feel a bit more understanding of her, and begins to queitly pray that she’s done the right thing, that celaena will understand why it had to be done. I don’t think she would make apologies for it, but she would be genuinely concerned about how she’s doing over there, unlike every other character in hof.

But Sam learns from Nehemia about Celaenas brief dalliance with Dorian, or learns from Aedion about who she actually is. I don’t think it would be the knowledge of who she is that bothers him, like it did chaol, but instead the idea, warped by the bitterness of her and dorian, that she had all this power all this time and ran away from it. I see that being that kicker in the confrontation, and I see Aelin having to have the conversation on the balcony with him instead of chaol.

Ok so second side note, and i havent finished koa so i dont know if we meet the royal family in Ellywe or if we learn whether or not they knew about her plans but in the timeline where Nehemia returns to Ellwye, the court and her family are FURIOUS with her, 1. because she’s the heir to the throne in an increasingly dangerous environment what do you mean you faked your death  to escape the country are you fucking serious??? WHY??? and maybe these grown men in her court don’t take her seriously because thats a big theme.and then 2. because her court are annoyed she took the iniative to do something so they keep chipping away at her- where is your firebringer- oh she’s not here? and we don’t have a guaranteed alliance? and you’re not in contact with the rebels because 1. they think youre dead and 2. one of their leaders was murdered by your friend to avenge you? Hows that gonna help. So she has to fight for their approval the same way aelin later fights darrow. what a beautiful parallel that would be.

Like imagine the JOY and relief and FEAR nehemia would feel upon hearing about aelin setting maeves people on fire- she begins to wonder for the first time,,, who is it she’s actually unleashed…. and will she want to help her?
