Hi! If you’re a foreigner looking at France right now (march 2023), you could wonder: “WTF is happening there?!”
I’m French, so let me explain (from what I understood, thanks to friends’ explanation and researches on my own, the government things are not very clear, perhaps on purpose).
If you have no clues, there are currently a lot of demonstrations (and some riots) and strikes. Some are violents and some are peaceful, depending, but I’ll come to that later. First of all: why? Because of a reform on the retirement, basically.
You may think, well, going from 62 to 64 years old don’t seem excessive, right? But that’s only the visible part of the iceberg actually. First, that move was explain by the government by saying it will avoid the collapsing of the system (of retirement). HOWEVER, the minimal age of retirement, 64, can only be 64 if you have: -- a full career (without any unemployed time, and/or part-time work) -- began to work early (like 16/18 years old) -- your 43 annuities (basically, it means that you have to work 43 years, if I understood clearly)
With all being wrote, it means that for a majority of French ppl, counts don’t had up: most of the ppl will have to work until around their 65-67 years.
Moreover, if you leave before the minimal age of retirement (which will be 64), you will not receive entirely your retirement money.
We were told that that reform will allow to save the French pension system --as it will allow to augment the retirement money up to 1200€ (euros). But the money can be took somewhere else, like in the super riches pockets for example, by taking them up to something like 2%, for the system to be fiable. Furthermore, only a minority of French people will obtain these 1200€, as you need a full career without any stop in it to gain it. So that reform penalizes everybody, especially precarious people and women.
That’s why a lot of people are angry right now in France.
On top of that, Elizabeth Born, the French Prime Minister (she is just under the French president in the power ladder in France), pass that reform against the Parlement agreement, using the 49th article of the constitution, paragraph 3 (we call it “49.3″).
That’s why we are angry. That’s why we demonstrate. That’s why there are strikes.
Most of them are non-violent, or at least, the violence don’t come from the demonstrators, but rather from the police officers --who seems to think they have all the rights because they wear the uniform. There are some police brutality (and if some French see that and needs some advices in case of police arrestations, I can provide them). There are also some riots and some thugs who breaks windows and/or stole things and/or deteriorates things / urban furnitures, but it’s not the majority of it (despite what BFM TV claims) (btw, be careful of what you’re watching, some images show the demonstrations as riots).
A lot of young people participates in these demonstrations, because it’s our future that’s at stake. We’re angry. We’ve had enough. All our life (I take my case as an example, for context, I’ll be 20 this year), we’ve been told our planet is dying, that we won’t be able to own a house (after the 2008 economic crisis), and now that we’ll have to work until our old age? We say: that’s enough. So we’re revolting. (some of us even say it’s time to guillotine Macron, to do a remake of 1789)
Some of us use the energy of the desperation, because they have nothing to lose, which make them unpredictable (and maybe dangerous). That’s what’s happening, basically.

I know it’s likely a trauma response and not funny or silly in anyway canonically but MacCready like going “EUGH EWWWWW! YUCK” Whenever attacked by feral ghouls and just being generally disgusted by them is kinda funny.
Like most of his combat dialogue is either him getting hurt or him being a snarky asshole but he’ll react to a ghoul like he just stepped in an unidentified wet spot with only his socks on.

I'm completely obsessed with and emo over the way Wilhelm carries himself now that he knows Simon loves him, too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(just a sidenote, but the duality of love and devotion towards Simon on one side and revolt and confident deviance towards everyone watching him, including us on the other.... these frames make me unwell...)
Like, that's absolutely the stance and face (and smile) of someone who's done with putting his own and his boyfriend's (!!!) needs behind those of the people who never cared about what he actually wanted.
Knowing him and Simon are on the same page now, finally, really is all he needs to face off against the consequences of living authentically and openly. He knows that together, they'll be fine.
I'd like to think his resistance is starting here already, facing off Jan-Olof with this stare and not pulling away as fast as Simon - who after all just offered to be Wilhelm's secret - is.
Tumblr media
It's so beautiful to see how much this has done for him in the S3 snippet. I feel like it's the first time he's moving like he's not a stranger on his own home anymore, like he's now commanding the place, like he's finally calling the shots. Sure, there are and there will be adversities (“I just wish it wasn't because of this”), but Wilhelm won't let them get in the way of him and Simon loving and supporting each other.
Tumblr media
“They won't start without us” He knows it's true and really isn't giving a fuck anymore who might get mad at them, he knows that they won't be able to play this down, make him deny everything again, they can't take back his confession in front of every single phone in all of Hillerska, and he won't let them try to, either. He's ready to fight, that revolution they started back in season 1 is now really picking up, and they're in it together.
Tumblr media
And god, it looks like it's healing him so much, he's so confident now, Simon by his side really gave him the strength he needed.
Like, the journey from the way he's desperately holding on to him at the confession, seemingly drinking it all in, those words he probably hasn't even dared dreaming of hearing from Simon and do taken aback by his emotions to the way he exudes confidence, strength, and conviction even in the face of adversity... the development is so beautiful.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The combination of love and confidence is one hell of a drug, and Wilhelm gets both from and through Simon... I'm convinced they are going to be one hell of a power couple this next season.

"...Young Henry became an ‘anti-king’, all the more dangerous because of his status as an anointed sovereign, and the focal point for the many who resented what they regarded as the overbearing and oppressive rule of Henry II."

Old age terrifies me almost more than death. It's not simply about your body and mind starting to break down and things that were once trivial becoming impossible... It's about the receding-into-the-background-ness of it all. Trying to catch up to a world that no longer needs you.

Tumblr ate the first version of this post but toyhouse art for all the characters I've designed for Doomed Young is now finished,, finally,,, now just have to write up Raffi's bio.......
You know, I've never gotten over the fact that the shoggoth in At the Mountains of Madness made art? Like left to its own devices, imitation or no, it took the time and attention to learn how to carve murals into the walls. Details that live in my brain forever

A daily reminder
Those Palestinian people were not killed, they were murdered
Its not a war on Hamas, its a genocide on Palestine
Its the beautiful land Palestine, not isreal
Its Genocide, not war
Its a murdered toddler/child/baby/teen, not a dead young lady/man
Its “isreal should have not..” not “Hamas should have not…”
Its Palestines last defense, not a terrorist organization
Its hostages, not prisoners
Neutrality is still just Zionism
It was a sniper shot, not a stray bullet
Boycott Starbucks, Mcdonalds, etc
Protest
Revolt
Call your lawmakers
Keep ALL EYES on Rafah
And remember, from the river to the sea Palestine will be free
Free Palestine 🇵🇸
(remember to reblog and help get the bottom tags trending again, we must not forget palestine)

There is a pro-transgender Labour revolt against health secretary Wes Streeting. You can sign the letter.
Tumblr media
Labour health secretary Wes Streeting has continued the transphobic policies of the previous Conservative government. Now Labour members have published and open letter anyone can sign.
Wes Streeting has said:
“This ban [on puberty blockers] brings the private sector in line with the NHS. We are committed to providing young people with the evidence-led care that they deserve”.
Evidence shows that blockers are of great help to young trans people, as it gives them some breathing space before puberty changes their bodies in traumatic ways.
Streeting is either lying about what medical research on trans people says or he has not done his homework. As a gay man he should know how oppression and erasure work.
The letter states:
International evidence shows that puberty suppressing hormones are a safe and effective way to temporarily pause a young person’s puberty, giving them time to consider their options for transition. Much of the concern around their use stems from the idea that those who take puberty blockers go on to use cross sex hormones as part of their transition. We do not think that trans young people growing up to be happy and healthy trans adults is a bad outcome while rates of de/retransition are exceptionally low. Rather than honouring Labour’s manifesto commitment to “remove indignities for trans people who deserve recognition & acceptance,” you have decided to strip trans young people of their bodily autonomy, undermining important medical principles, such as Gillick Competence, in favour of upholding the Conservative approach of politicising the lives of trans people. Even the widely discredited Cass Review does not go so far as to recommend the criminalisation of puberty blockers for trans young people.
You can read and sign the letter here.

Back in my early twenties I ended up having a three day sleepover hang with some friends. There were about seven of us in this extended hang. Four of us lived together and after having a great day we invited our friends to stay the night too. And again. The good times just stayed rolling.
It was all PJs and laughs, unbroken fun times. We played games and ate pancakes and fast food. Occasionally someone would leave to work a shift at their job before rejoining the party. At one point about half the group decided to get high. This was years before I decided to actually try pot.
I returned home from a shift at Red Robin and the high group had somehow gotten onto the idea about how soft eyelids were and how much they wanted to lick an eyelid and feel the softness. Predictably no one was on board to have their eyelids licked and eventually the topic shifted away.
But that was not the end of it.
You see, groups of young adults are often stupid and occasionally full of demons. Which brings me to the dawn of the third day. I was curled up in bed, sleeping soundly after a fun day with friends.
Three people decided that the eyelid licks they couldn’t get by asking they would take by force.
They crept into my room early in the morning. Like wretched little imps they set out with evil intentions. They skulked and snickered and snuck until they all stood poised above me in bed. One of them had out his phone to record the event. Another leaned down, tongue out, to taste the forbidden flesh.
Deep in the depths of sleep I felt something soft like a caress, a brief confusion of love and tenderness before my sleep addled brain registered the revolting wetness. I lashed out with all the force in me and whapped the offender so hard upside the head that he staggered back from the scene of his crime.
I leapt up and assaulted the rest of the raiding party with blows and curses. My mood stayed foul the rest of the day and the one who’d licked me complained about how hard I’d hit him. I offered to hit him again for free. They also couldn’t stop laughing and oohing over the video that had been taken.
When I finally watched it I could understand why. It’s not clear from the angle what the offender had been doing to me but one moment he was leaning down and the next my arm blurred through the air as fast as a striking snake. The motion was too fast for the camera to even comprehend, one moment I lay prone and the next I was up and furious, arm cocked back from the strike.
They commended my speed and ferocity and I grudgingly accepted an apology but thus ended the sleepover as I didn’t trust those fuckers in my house anymore.

a non-comprehensive list of reasons why bruce has tried banning halloween in the manor
1. dick was overly trusting of clowns as a child. he still holds the family record for most kidnappings in a single night
2. jason tried wearing his robin uniform as a costume. every. year.
3. jason then graduated to dressing up as his corpse and haunting (traumatizing) his brothers
4. cass always manages to scare him. no clark he does not shriek.
5. tim, duke, and steph got ‘spooky scary skeletons’ stuck in his head and martian manhunter started laughing at him in a JL meeting because of it
6. damian was followed and subsequently kidnapped by what they assumed was a group of very tall trick or treaters, but were actually just the league
7. that time of year is when jerry the turkey gets a little self aware (re: defensive). there have been incidents.
8. he walked downstairs only to be greeted with every member of his family dressed like green lantern. even alfred.
9. young justice decided to throw a giant party and to get in you had to wear the shittiest batman costume possible for their contest
10. jason won said contest. he didn’t even stay for the party, he just wanted the excuse
11. gotham rogues are drama kids and are therefore sluts for good thematic irony, so half of them do special edition attacks on halloween
12. the kids all do a candy swap at the end of the night, they invite kate and not him
13. tim has an allergy to peppermint and never seems to be aware of this, so he has to keep multiple epi pens on standby
14. he’s expected to wear slutty costumes and that’s just not worth his playboy cover
15. alfred only confiscates the candy he gets
16. he was just really hungover one year
17. damian has made them all watch coraline so. many. times. he doesn’t even get nightmares anymore
18. tim goes on a sugar high and has to be put on tech lockdown or he might frame lex luthor for murder and extort 90% of gotham’s elite
19. when dick and jason were younger they left open pumpkins outside his door and he would accidentally step in them every morning
20. damian tried to convince them to bob for apples with lazarus water
21. tim fell asleep while bobbing for apples (in normal water) and almost drowned
22. dick and steph drew a glittery skeleton over the batsuit
23. when he complains they all call him the grinch. it’s not even christmas.
24. pumpkin carving always leads to them flinging the innards at eachother and making a mess even alfred refuses to clean
25. the validity of candy corn argument comes to blows. every. single. year.
26. duke lead a revolt one year against the tyranny of bruce’s “no slanderous costumes” policy (he wanted to be slutty batman)
27. the kids throw a rager in the cave and somehow never get caught. it’s the only time they’re all willing to clean and it pisses bruce off that he can’t prove it.
28. bruce got sick and clark walked around the watchtower in a batman costume pretending to be him for two days
29. steph and dick glued the lorax mustache to him while he was sleeping because he refused to pick a costume. it didn’t come off for a week, and lois posted an article speculating he was secretly a natural ginger.
30. all the kids stayed in once and watched ‘it’s the great pumpkin charlie brown’ instead of partying and he’s been trying to get them to do it again ever since
