Hello! Welcome to my blog! :D
This blog is dedicated to both Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters and Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal, though I may post other fandoms from time to time.

I can't remember what the very first anime I watched was at all but I do know that during my childhood - before I even started going online to find stuff and relied on whatever was on Salvadoran TV - I saw at least a couple of episodes of the following.
Dragon Ball (original, Z, and GT).
I didn't like DBZ nearly as much as everyone else in Latin America seemed to. A lot of the fights felt not only slow but also kind of mechanically uninteresting.
Cardcaptor Sakura.
I surprise myself by feeling this nostalgic over such a cute and soft show. It's very different from what I normally like. I guess even I have a softer side sometimes (@thirteen-jades this is not an invitation to forcefem me).
Corrector Yui.
I have very few memories of this show. It was about an internet magical girl or something? I want to rewatch it sometime.
Ranma 1/2.
My parents explicitly forbid me from watching this, so of course I did it anyway when they were not around. They really didn't like the idea of a character who could transform like that. I only watched this one pretty early on before scheduling made it difficult to even find so I had only vague memories of it prior to a rewatch I started with my girlfriend.
Pokemon.
I got into Pokemon before anyone at my school knew what that was. I remember that much. I was more of a casual fan (could not play the games for the longest time since my parents thought games Encouraged Vice) and only watched the anime for a while before falling off eventually.
She was great, though:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sailor Moon.
I have memory gaps about this one as well. Pretty sure I watched less than 10 episodes total, out of order. I think it was on a channel I didn't really know the schedule of, and at the very least I'm pretty sure it wasn't the same one that had most of the other shows on this list.
Digimon (all series up to and including Frontier).
I know they're not really comparable but I think I preferred the designs in Digimon over the ones in Pokemon. Also, I distinctly remember that this scene in particular poked at my ryona and defeat kink before I even knew what sex was:
Monster Rancher.
What the hell even happens in this show? I remember some of the monsters but absolutely nothing about the events of even a single episode. All my memories of it are just gone.
Yu Yu Hakusho.
Felt way more interesting and varied than DBZ to me, and I also found the characters to be more appealing in lots of ways. Still only remember it vaguely, though.
Rurouni Kenshin (oof).
In hindsight the fact that Soujiro was my favorite character makes me eventually becoming a Kohaku kin kind of predictable. Anyway, I think this was one of my favorites and also a good source of fuel for my growing ryona kink. Love shows where attractive men injure each other so viscerally (one of them even gets a chunk of his shoulder bitten off in a major fight).
Unfortunately, the creator completely sucks in such a way that also makes parts of the show feel hollow now.
Mon Colle Knights.
Only vague memories of this one too. It was decently cute, I guess?
Saint Seiya.
The Latin American dub of this is actually so much better than either the English dub or the European Spanish dub it almost feels unfair. Even the opening sounds about as good as the original, and I say this as someone who generally thinks Spanish is an ugly language with bad vibes. No wonder it seems way more popular in Latin America relative to the US.
youtube
Cyborg 009.
It was okay, I think? Not really into that older style of cyborg design. I can barely remember much else.
Yu-Gi-Oh! (only the original series at that time).
Like with Pokemon, I was into this before it became big in my area. I haven't forgotten nearly as much about it as I have with many of the other things on this list either. Especially where the first season is concerned I'd say I remember everything reasonably well (obviously not the turn-by-turn details of every duel or anything but yeah).
I notice that with a lot of the shows on here the main draw for me really was just seeing all the cool monsters, but I did come to enjoy the game and just the sincere insanity of the setting too. I also now associate this with master and Past Me.
Duel Masters.
Mimi was kind of cute. I liked her outfit. The show itself was... kind of weird, to be honest. It's one of those shows where the dub was basically a joke (more so in English, though).
Captain Tsubasa.
Those guys can get really intense about football. Can't remember much other than an episode where a guy is trying to overcome a fear of being hit by the ball or something? Pretty sure I only watched this one when I was stuck somewhere where I could not watch or do much else.
Plus some others I am also failing to remember. Genuinely kind of distressing how hazy my memories of these things are.

He was meant to be dead.
He may as well have been dead but the meant to part stuck on the side of Shuzo’s sense of self like a talon in his side as he came to consciousness but what a consciousness it was. Everything he owned, foreclosed. Everything he was, discarded. There was hardly a dime to his name. The Kaiba Corporation had swept this little incident under the rug and there was nothing left. Just shell company after shell company dispersing what had been his and was no more.
It might have been more merciful for him to have been dead as Shuzo explored the halls of apartments that had once been his. He felt like a ghost. But the pulse in his veins was undeniable. He was alive, he was a human being but all that seemed debatable. The most tangible that he felt was how his stomach growled. He was hungry too but there was nothing to eat, nothing to buy even a sandwich with.
So, the best that the once grand and illustrious Ootaki Shuzo of the Kaiba Corporation’s financial council did what he did best. He meandered on to find the closest aquarium which had a penguin exhibit installed inside of it.
He barged past the admission but when the freshly into college ticket administrator saw him, and how dejected he was, he was left alone. With his shoulders drooping and his once proud nose pointed down, Shuzo wandered the pathing and he found his way naturally to where he wanted to go.
Shuzo placed his hands on the railing and he stopped. He watched. He even managed to muster a smile for his beloved penguins. He breathed in deep the stench of fish and salt water but unlike most who may have a distaste for such a smell, Shuzo loved it. His heart swelled and he envied them.
They were pure. They did not know money or greed, just hunger and fullness. They did not know that they had kin who could fly, they were content to swim in waters. They lived in beautiful ignorance that their habitats were declining and that life for them were worsening, nor that it was because of human interventions for humans were also who gave this flock their fish and their toys.
Shuzo took a deep breath. In the back of his head, words from his now deceased parents echoed. His mother berating him for feeling such feminine feelings towards animals, such as sympathy. And his father telling him to focus on something much more practical, that he ought to pull himself up by his bootstraps. Then, such kernels of cruel advice, they resumed the perpetual fighting that he remembered them as.
Shuzo decided that he would find a job and he did not need to look very far.
He removed himself from the penguins and he returned to the entrance of the aquarium but they had a noticeboard and it caught his eye. It was festooned with pieces of paper on pieces of paper and freshly pinned on top was a notice for a few jobs. Mostly shit shovelling, of which Shuzo had no interest in but just before he dismissed it, he saw a position for a new accountant and he decided then and there that he had been given a second chance for a reason. So he could, perhaps, accomplish something kind with his time, rather than being another cog in the war machine.
Shuzo applied and once his credentials were verified, he was hired on the spot with disbelief. They couldn’t believe his pedigree but if he was happy to be with their little family run-type company which travelled at a loss more often than not, then so be it. And, funnily enough, Shuzo was happy to.
He hadn’t gone to work quite so happily in a very long time. Not since he was a lad. What followed was not opulence or a return for Shuzo, however but he was content. His earnings put a roof over his head and food on his plate. It was a huge departure from what he had known, even as a child, but he didn’t find himself complaining. No, not once. He liked working at the aquarium and the aquarium liked having him.
His co-workers, in time, even came to describe him as pleasant. Not at first but as he came out of a decades’ tough shell, eventually, his good qualities began to bud. Shuzo couldn’t believe it either but he was doing good work. With him whipping the books, they weren’t necessarily turning a huge profit but they were doing better for the animals and even for the staff. He was appreciated, which he couldn’t believe - and not appreciated with cash bonuses or anything which would lend itself to being a later corruption, which he couldn’t believe.
But he liked it. He liked this new, quiet existence that he had somehow found himself in. He hoped that it would continue. He didn’t know what happened to his other, previous co-workers but he hoped that they found peace all the same as him. He didn’t have to wonder regarding President Kaiba. Seto, the boy prodigy who would be king some day.
His name was always plastered all over the news, he always seemed to be up to some odd exploit or the next with buzz about rocket ships now on the cards, literally,  but Shuzo doubted that their paths would ever cross again. It was likely better that way. Or, so he thought.
It was just another normal day, the same as any other from the past couple years from his turning point after the Big Five Incident. So, just like any other normal and dull and ordinary and painfully middle class mundane day, Shuzo had taken his lunch break, eaten in the staff room and then made his daily journey to the penguins exhibit to watch them. As his stomach settled, he enjoyed seeing them play and fight and get into mischief. It was a far better entertainment than reading something depressing on the news or whatever the latest celebrity gossip was playing on the staff television.
But as Shuzo stared ahead, with something of a smile on his face, no less, a movement caught his eye as he pined once more for his penguins. He had to do a double take, however, as he thought it was something inconsequential which had distracted him in his peripheries. A balloon, maybe, a woman’s dress, something ordinary and familiar to his daily ritual of watching the penguins at his no longer quite so new job but no.
It was President Kaiba. Seto Kaiba. It had been his jacket that Shuzo had instinctively learned to detect; an instinct he thought would have long since gone cold but apparently not.
Shuzo choked on his breath as he realised that flash of white had been his gregarious and eccentric white jacket. He held onto the railing, gawking as President Kaiba was by himself - though, presumably, his little brother wasn’t too far away, same for his security detail. And it seemed that he had noticed that there was a familiar face in the crowd as it ebbed and flowed.
“Fancy meeting you here.” President Kaiba smirked as he came closer. He practically swanned as he drew in to join Shuzo by his side.
“Yeah, fancy that.” Shuzo grunted, unimpressed. “What are you doing here?”
“I’m here to duel the queen.” President Kaiba rolled his eyes. “What do you think I'm doing here? I’m killing time whilst Mokuba has something to eat.”
“Ah. I see. How is he?” Shuzo asked.
“I would prefer not to say.” President Kaiba sneered and Shuzo considered that fair enough.
He knew well that he wasn’t exactly the most trustworthy adult in President Kaiba’s life - or even vicinity. Still, there was a peculiar twinge of rejection. One which Shuzo desperately wanted to remedy so he just blurted out a seemingly random question to keep the rapport, however barbed, going: “I thought you preferred pandas?”
“I do.” President Kaiba retorted, irritated, nose in the air.
Of which, the air around them turned stale despite being outdoors. So much for at least attempting to keep communication going as that made it damn right up. Worse still, Shuzo felt defensive with this… this teenager around him. He didn’t know what to say, what to do and so he prickled. He thought maybe this would be it and President Kaiba would just walk off but no. He stayed. He even watched the penguins.
His gaze was suitably icy as he watched the tiny, blue penguins flit about on the ground of their enclosure. Being their adorable little selves but President Kaiba’s expression was of contempt. He clicked his tongue and Shuzo was ready to be irate but President Kaiba’s problem was with him, not the animals.
“So you like a jobless bum these days? Just hanging out here until you get shooed off or what?” President Kaiba asked.
“No, actually I work here.” Shuzo said.
“As a keeper? You don’t smell like fish.” President Kaiba’s nose screwed up.
“No, like before. I work in finance and such. Thanks to me, this zoo’s finances are in tip-top shape and as thank you, I was allowed to give my favourite exhibit a little bit more budget for enrichment and maintenance than usual. After I earned my keep, of course. But that new mural to the far side, of their native New Zealand, all thanks to my handiwork with the books.” Shuzo said and he said it proudly. He puffed out his chest. “And before you ask, no I did not have to cook said books to get my way.”
And that appeared to please President Kaiba. He puffed out his own chest, as though it was a competition and had a greedy look in his eye.
“Good to know you haven’t lost your touch in the game then.” President Kaiba praised him. Surprisingly.
   “Thanks.” Shuzo grunted.
“I take it you like working here then? At some third rate zoo? It suits you though.” President Kaiba, predictably, followed up with insult-coated inquiries.
“I do.” Shuzo said, more measured in voice than before. He wasn’t going to let some teenager bully him when he had pride in his work. “It's good work here. Not like before. I feel like my meaning of life is sharper here than at your shithole.”
President Kaiba laughed raucously. He couldn’t believe it. A former employee of his, calling Kaiba Corp a shithole. He wasn’t wrong though and that just made President Kaiba laugh harder. Shuzo rolled his eyes and continued his spiel about working here.
“There’s something more exhilarating about working for joy, for entertainment than for violence.” Shuzo said. “I feel like I’m making a positive difference, not just to myself but for others. Sure, they may only be animals but they deserve a good quality of life all the same as us. Knowing they’re happy, that makes me happy and that makes the visitors happy. It's better than mongering war, striving only for greed, furthering a cycle of violence. I’m sure you would understand, wouldn’t you, little gamer boy?”
President Kaiba did not take kindly to being called a ‘little gamer boy’ but Shuzo did. He relished the awful glare that President Kaiba gave him. One which managed to meld into something else, a mutter.
   “Yes, I would, wouldn’t I?”
Shuzo blinked. He felt his heart skip a beat, almost. Something more mannish than that. It was of guilt, not of anything fanciful. He exhaled with rue and looked out to the penguins which had comforted him as a boy. There were more personal matters of violence which he had continued through inaction, alongside his more calculated decisions of money to create and sell weapons, helping curate the profits of them.
He should have been a better man. For Seto’s sake. He was so young. Too young. And he? He was old but he had been that young boy in a situation which was not conducive to growing up well. Shuzo blamed himself for being a bystander, washing his hands of responsibility even though he knew that Gozaburo was an abusive piece of shit but because Seto wasn’t his kid, Shuzo dismissed the evidence and chose not to care. He was just some orphan who should count his lucky stars, he should have been living the dream. Other excuses welled up inside of Shuzo, too, as he had this uncomfortable realisation.
“Hm…” President Kaiba mused. “You have your penguins and I have my dragons.”
Shuzo couldn’t believe his ears. That quiet, little hum. He could have - he was probably meant to - missed it in the hustle and bustle of the crowds. Of people coming and going, of the penguins making their calls and silly noises but he had heard it. President Kaiba was agreeing with him; he was emphasising with him. Hell should be frozen over right about now because of it, Shuzo was sure.
“Pfft, fine, penguins are fine. Pandas are still better if you want to see an animal which is black and white but penguins are whatever.” President Kaiba brushed over his sentimentality for his own escapism.
Shuzo made a wry expression. It seemed that the young man had gone and had a change of heart somewhere along the lines. Either regrew one or something. Unbelievable. He had to take another look at President Kaiba, to see if he had really, truly changed and when Shuzo glanced at him, he did realise something.
President Kaiba had grown up some more. Gotten a little taller, filled out more. That was good, that likely meant he was eating well, that pleased Shuzo though he couldn’t pinpoint why. His expression had changed somewhat, as well. He wasn’t wizened nor was he cheery but there was a colour to his cheeks. He wasn’t haggard or failing in some way, driven mad with responsibilities which should never have been his or crushed by his failures. It was respectable to Oozaki, at least, but to President Kaiba, it must not have been.
“Why are you staring, old man?” President Kaiba growled.
“No reason, no reason at all.” Shuzo lied.
He looked straight ahead to the penguins. They both did. Shoulder to shoulder. It was an odd feeling, especially since President Kaiba was so much taller than him. Always been, of course, but still. He was an indomitable presence and one which Shuzo wanted more of as he wanted to believe he had changed just as much as the young CEO.
There was a pregnant pause, a terse feeling and before the end of it, already Shuzo wanted another look at President Kaiba and so, he stole a glance at the young man. Shuzo felt his heart lurched in his chest. There was a twitch in his finger, one he tried to steady because he knew it was insane to yearn for affection from this twisted, younger man but they had a connection.
He averted his eyes and returned to the view of his beloved penguins. Something of a smile tried to tug at lips as he watched the flightless birds waddle around, dawdle and coo, fight and swim. Just living their lives in a simulation of their real environment. He knew all of these birds’ stories by heart as he cared about them deeply. Some couldn’t live in the wild because of past injuries, others this was all they knew. It was still somewhat sad to him but just as Shuzo got into the thick of abysmal and miserable reveries, something unexpected happened.
   President Kaiba touched him first.
He smacked Shuzo’s shoulder, jolting him and causing him to turn his head. He had a reactionary glare on his face but it just delighted President Kaiba all the more. He beamed. His expression all arrogant and bratty. It should have pissed Shuzo off but it didn’t.
“We should catch up some more some day, Shuzo.” President Kaiba said.
Shuzo felt his eyes dilate, he was taken by surprise - again - by the President. He swallowed, “I would like that, if you would have some of such a low standing.
“I collect dorks these days.” President Kaiba snickered. “So, if you ever want your job back, you can have it. I’m not that attached to the current person filling that role.”
“Well, fortunately for them, I don’t want it back.” Shuzo replied, defensive.
“I knew you would say that.” President Kaiba said and he sounded too fond. Way too fond for the President Kaiba that Shuzo once knew but maybe that was proof, too. They had both changed. President Kaiba shrugged and sighed and carried on a treat. “I need to go find Mokuba but I enjoyed meeting you like this again.” He fished his mobile phone out of his deep jacket pockets and with just his thumb, he dialled something up and then Shuzo’s phone beeped.
Shuzo fumbled with his phone which continued to beep incessantly to let him know he had a new text. The marimba was obnoxious but did little to help Shuzo locate it. He knew that his phone was in his back pocket but he never remembered which. President Kaiba laughed at his bluster but again, there was an endeared shine in his blue eyes. Shuzo was wary of it but when he looked at his phone’s screen, he had a new contact: President Kaiba’s latest, personal details.
“See you around, Shuzo .” President Kaiba said and waved Shuzo off, nonchalantly.
Shuzo watched as he carried on. No doubt planning his route to the panda exhibit with his precious younger brother in tow but Shuzo didn’t mind. He had an odd feeling in his chest. President Kaiba had changed. So had he. Maybe he could hope to learn more of this over wine, like civilised men.

I'm erring away from calling this a stupid thing to admit, but it definitely is... embarrassing. I know I'm throwing away all my character development by saying this. But... I really... miss my "other half," my darker half, my dark side, my Yami, whatever you want to call him. I know he probably isn't out there at all, the yugioh kin space is pretty small already, but for some reason I miss just having the company of him in my mind. In a sick way, it was nice, and it kind of makes me happy to remember that his original purpose was to protect me and keep me out of danger... of course that comes with the burden of harboring a lot of my less savory feelings about my life and the world in general, which is why he's so, you know, Evil, but still. I just feel like he's the only person who would be able to fully understand me. We're like two sides of the same coin, you know? It feels lonely not having him here with me.

Yu-Gi-Oh Fictionkin Q&A
Just some basic questions intended to help your followers get to know you a little better as originating from Yu-Gi-Oh. You can either answer them flat out or offer your followers to send in as asks.
1. Are you canon divergent? If so, how?
2. Do you still play the game today? Are you any good? Do you use your original deck?
3. Is there anything particular you remember that wasn’t shown in your source that you feel is important?
4. What’s something mundane that you recall that’s funny to you now?
5. Did you have friends or enemies? If so, who were they? Are you in contact with any of them today? (Canonmates or not.)
6. If you’re comfortable sharing, is there anything traumatic or heavily negative that you remember going through that you still struggle thinking about?
7. Did you have a favourite Duel Monster? If so which?
8. How do you feel about doubles? What would you do if you met one?
9. If you’re from a world that didn’t have one of the later forms of summoning, (including Rush Duels) what’s your opinion on them now?
10. Do you have any regrets? If you could go back is there one thing you would do or change? If so what would it be?

What’s this?
That’s right, it’s a second chapter in Feb.
From now on, or at least for the foreseeable future, there will 2 updates a month. One of the 1st and one on the 15th of the month.
This is my present to you guys for the 10th Birthday of the Ennead series.
As of the 23rd of Feb 2021, Ennead is 10 years old!!!
Tumblr media
I’ve been writing this series ever since the year I graduated from university, back in 2011. I took a train to London, to see the UK’s first Book of the Dead exhibit, and decided to do some research on the way.
During the trip, I discovered that the name of the Nameless Pharaoh, Atem, was frequently used as a girl’s name and that led me to thinking, what would change if Atem had been female? The rule that Bakura was using to justify his attack was ‘the son inherits the sins of the father’. That would not be true in this case, because daughters do not inherit the sins of their father. So what would have happened? Why would Egypt still have fallen to Zorc?
And so the series was born.
And in Ennead, the Nameless Pharaoh was born a girl and everything changed from there.
Honestly, when I first started Ennead, I did not think there would be much interest in the series and was going to stop at the end of Season Zero. When you all were there, urging me to continue as I approached the end, I decided I would continue. I made plans that moved from Season Zero, right through to Truth, which, at the time, was the end of the DM series.
Once I started expanding the Ennead universe, I made plans for there to be nine books to match up with the Ennead pantheon, which consists of nine Gods and Goddesses. Some of these were unplanned, original works that I’ve since thrown out because they were awful.
Since then, there were more releases: the R manga for example, as well of one of my favourite movies “Yu-Gi-Oh!:Dark Side of Dimensions”. These were considered, weighed and added to the series, replacing said bad original works.
I’ve also expanded past that nine story plan, as I’ve had to split out the current arc, Kismet, into its own story in order for it to make sense in the timeline. This has increased the number of story arcs to ten. That doesn’t include any plans I have for side stories, which may add one, if not two stories to the series. If included, they will get added into their place in the timeline, but they won’t be written until I am entirely happy with the plans.
Looking to the future I’m beginning to plan the extended universe. Ennead GX for example, has things planned that change how things would happen and Ennead 5ds would be an interesting concept. Both of these I may play with in the future after I finish watching Subbed GX and have gotten a chance to watch both Subbed and Dubbed 5ds.
I don’t promise that you’ll see either of these any time soon. If I do write them, they may contain spoilers for Ennead so I’m a little hesitant to put them out before I finish the DM arc.
Here is a reminder of the Ennead DM series as it is planned at the current time:
1.      Season Zero
2.      For Those We Love (Duelist Kingdom)
3.      Kin (Dungeon Dice Monsters)
4.      Kismet (Destiny) <<< We are here
5.      Battle of the Gods (Battle City)
6.      False Light (Pyramid of Light)
7.      Breaking the Seal (Orichalcos/DOMA)
8.      Redemption (R )
9.      Truth (Millennium)
10.   Eternity (Dark Side of Dimensions)
There may be more stories, or possibly less, if I decide that a fic does not fit the series as it develops, but I do promise you that I will do my best to complete the series, even if it takes me a few more years.
I hope that you’ll stay with me and continue to enjoy, like and comment on the series until the very end.

So in the Yu-Gi-Oh franchise, there is typically a final villain who announces that they are the reason for everything that has gone horrible wrong within the series. They are usually stupidly over-powered and don’t get redeemed since they are the root of all evil in their respective worlds. Vrains doesn’t really have one of those unless you want to count Lightning with the whole “Blame Lightning for Everything” meme that never seems to die as episode 119 continues to prove that Lightning is a little sh*t. Apparently even in death he still continues to be a massive thorn in everyone’s side and that is pulling it nicely.
However, 119 actually did give us the TRUE root of all evil in the Vrains series. And no, it actually isn’t Lightning. IT IS THESE GOD DAMN SIMULATIONS!
Seriously, everything that’s gone wrong is because some idiot got curious about their fate and decided to look into the future and the future give them the middle finger. Said idiot didn’t like said middle finger and gave the future one back by becoming their own self fulfilling prophecies.
Season 1 with Dr. Kogami: So I spent six months torturing a group of children for nothing because this simulation told me that the Ignis are going to try and destroy humanity because humanity threaten to destroy them first. Hmmm, with that in mind, I should totally send my 13-year-old son (cause keep in mind Ryoken was freaking 13 when Kogami started this Ignis hunt of his) out to kill them in return before they attack us for attacking them. Obviously nothing bad is going to come from this.
Season 2 with Lightning: So this simulation is telling me that I am the root of all evil and I have no chance of co-existing with humanity. Instead of, you know, testing this out myself in person by meeting up with my Origin and trying to be friends with him, I’m just going to destroy humanity of my own volition because no simulation is going to tell me how to live my life! Wait, it is also telling me I’m flawed. In that case, instead of again testing this out for myself, I’m just going to create a vessel to fuse me and the rest of my kin together. I’m sure the other Ignis wouldn’t have a problem with this at all.
Season 3 with Ai: So yeah, now that the rest of my kind are dead, I’m now apparently going to become a dick and destroy humanity, even though I have had absolutely reason to before any of this transpired because the simulation told me so since we all know the simulation hasn’t lied to anyone before. I, of course, don’t want this to happen so I’m going to create millions of copies of myself, giving them said free-will that is predicted to destroy humanity, and unleash them onto said humanity while killing myself in the process because why not?!
My god, it is freaking Leo Akaba all over again. How can these people be so smart but so stupid at the same time? I’m just laughing at this point because seriously, these simulations are literally the cause of everything and yet no one is smart enough to realize it and to stop using them.

Ryoken gave Yusaku freaking Borreload Furious Dragon. Of all the cards that Ryoken could have given him, I did not think it was going to be Furious. I didn’t even think we were going to be seeing Furious in the anime since Revolver vs Soulburner was Ryoken’s last duel of the series but nope, this asshole pulled a freaking fast one on us. That was the freaking highlight of my week right there.
The best part about this whole thing is that Playmaker has yet to use Furious’s graveyard effect which will allow him to bring back one of his Dark Link Monsters from the graveyard. It probably will be Darkfluid but heck he might just bring back Decode Talker for some reason just to end this duel off with some more feels. Still, I just love the fact that Ryoken is giving Ai one last middle finger before the show ends.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, with that being said, I think Ai just gave Ryoken his own middle finger back with this because what the actual hell, Ai?! At least buy the guy some dinner before you ask him to fuse with you! What’s next?! You are going to pull a super poly out of your ass and freaking go full out with the Soulshipping? There is just no subtlety in this and I love it because you know Ai did this just to spite Ryoken after seeing Playmaker use his Fusion. Yeah you definitely can’t say Ai isn’t Yusaku’s Ignis now because he just took Yusaku’s proposal to Ryoken at the end of season 1 and bumped it up to an 11.
The most crazy part about this whole thing is that Yusaku might legitimately do it because what else can he do to keep Ai from killing himself? Plus if they become the same person, he could possible out write Ai’s code and free the others as well. I would actually be fine if this would be how Vrains ends. For things to almost come full circle in a way by having the part of Yusaku that was lost from the Hanoi Project that became the Dark Ignis, aka Ai, to return to him. Sounds kinda hypocritical coming from me who hates the ARC-V ending since the Yuu Boys and the Bracelet Girls didn’t separate at the end but that was because none of that was consensual. They all had the damn right to became their own people again and it wasn’t fair that it was taken from them. This would be consensual and honestly I’m curious to see what kind of being a fusion between Yusaku and Ai would create. Would it be something like the Zexal forms between Yuma and Astral or would Yusaku get some badass powers similar to the Judai and Yubel fusion? I want to see some prediction fanart of this of what a potential fusion between these two would look like.
Either way, we are getting the final episode of Vrains next week and it is going to be shippy as all hell I can tell you all that much. I’ll talk about my overview thoughts about Vrains then but for now, we just have to wait to see if this will end with a bang or in disaster.

After the Ceremonial Duel, Atemu returned to the Afterlife to fulfill his journey as a young Pharaoh and be among his ilk and kin. Yuugi, and consequently his friends, was left bereft of his companionship, of his affections, and of his love. But now, some years later, something has happened, and Atemu has returned. He is back among the denizens of Domino City, but therein lies his biggest problem: He does not know or recognize anyone, not even himself. He bears no memories or his life, past or present, or of his friends. He does not even remember his long-time love, Yuugi.
All he knows, is his name.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Kin Call
Because I don’t particularly feel like putting out calls on every kincalling blog there is.
I’m Atem/Yami Yugi from multiple canons, including:
• Season 0/ Yu-Gi-Oh! (1998)
• Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters
• Various AUs and fics
(I should have pages for each canon made up soon.)
My Yugi and I are looking for all of our friends- the main gang and anyone else who wants to speak with us. I’m also especially interested in finding Mana and Mahad.
Just message me or reblog this if you want to talk to Yugi or I or both of us. We miss you all greatly.
I hope to hear from you all soon.
-Yami

Yu-Gi-Oh! Spirit Companions, Ranked
As I’ve been watching Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS, I’ve been thinking a lot about how characters like Ai are represented and used within the franchise. For lack of a better term, these spirit companions show up in each Yu-Gi-Oh! series as a guide for the protagonist, someone they can talk to and confer with in and out of duels. They play a slightly different role than the main character’s group of friends, often sharing a mental or spiritual connection that elevates their relationship to something closer to kin. Ai is one of the most active deuteragonists throughout the franchise, and so I wanted to take a look at all six of the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime series and talk about how they play into the story and whether their inclusion helps to further the themes of the series.
Tumblr media
6. The Crimson Dragon, from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s
The Crimson Dragon is a being made of sacred fire that, along with the six legendary dragons (the titular 5 D’s), fought against the evil Earthbound Immortals and sealed them in the Nazca Lines. He is the source of all the main characters’ powers, which include energy manipulation, psychic powers, and creating miracles. Although he is the reason the cast gathered together and were able to become a team, the Crimson Dragon otherwise only appears when the plot demands it.
When I first started thinking about this list, I wasn’t even sure if 5D’s had a spirit companion of some kind. It’s really downplayed within the series, since all of the main characters have to share parts of the Crimson Dragon, and it doesn’t really play into the series outside of its role as a plot device. Unlike the other characters in this list, the Crimson Dragon doesn’t talk or interact with the cast, acting more like a guardian than a proper character. There’s no personality there and nothing to real talk about, besides it being kind of a lame design for a dragon.
Tumblr media
5. Yubel, from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX
Yubel is sort of a weird case compared to the rest of the characters on this list, since her first appearance is over halfway through the series as an antagonist for Jaden. She was originally a magical guardian meant to protect an individual known as the Supreme King, who wielded the power of Gentle Darkness. Thousands of years after this pact was made, her spirit was placed into a Duel Monsters card, and eventually the card ended up in the hands of Jaden. As it happens, Jaden is a descendant of the Supreme King, and so the spirit within the Yubel card promised to protect Jaden from any and all threats. Unfortunately, Yubel considered any sort of friendship with others as a threat to their relationship, and so everyone who dueled Jaden fell into a coma. In the hopes of helping her find the “power of justice”, Jaden sent the Yubel card into space in a KaibaCorp satellite, but she ended up encountering The Light of Destruction which only corrupted her further. Eventually the satellite crashed back onto Earth and Yubel was freed, allowing her to take revenge against Jaden for betraying her. She does this by torturing all of his friends via Shadow Duels and eventually doing the same to Jaden, equating their shared pain as a sort of love. But, thanks to Jaden’s incredibly large heart, he is able to eventually forgive Yubel and accept her, which allows the two of them to fuse together and free Yubel from The Light of Destruction.
I’ve never really been able to come to terms with Yubel as a spirit companion. She’s an extremely out-of-place element in the otherwise goofy series, to an uncomfortable extent. Between her weird sadomasochism fetish and her overly possessive relationship with Jaden, the whole thing comes off as a strange thing for a kid’s show to do. There’s no real conclusion that effectively explains why Jaden would suddenly forgive her outside of him being such a stand-up dude and destiny-bound to be with her. This is several steps above GX characters talking about “playing solitaire” with their favorite sexy cards from the classic memetic shared video, and I’ve always found it uncomfortable on reflection.
Tumblr media
4. Astral, from Yu-Gi-Oh! ZeXal
Astral is an extra-terrestrial from the Astral World, which is a thinly-veiled sci-fi allegory for Heaven. He is initially sent to Earth in order to garner enough power to destroy the Barian World, which is a thinly-veiled sci-fi allegory for Hell, but is intercepted partway and attaches himself to Yuma Tsukumo, a third-rate duelist with big dreams. When he reaches Earth, Astral’s memories scatter in the form of 100 “Number” cards, and now he’ll need to help Yuma learn how to duel so that they can win back all of the Numbers and Astral can complete his mission.
Astral’s just a real weenie, and a pretty boring character overall. His only narrative purpose for a majority of the series is to bail Yuma out when he makes a bad play, and to talk about how weird human customs are compared to his pseudo-angel alien customs. And there was that one time Astral felt so betrayed when Yuma kept a secret from him that he went crazy and almost killed the both of them via a corrupted fusion. It’s nice that he’s part of the show from the beginning so the plot starts right away, but that ends up leading to another problem, thanks to the Number card gimmick. Because only Number cards can destroy other Number cards in a duel, the way that he’s integrated ends up making almost every duel go the exact same way, all the way up to the very end of the series.
Tumblr media
3. Yuto, from Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V
Yuto is one of three characters from an alternate dimension, called the Xyz Dimension, that shares the same look and build of protagonist Yuya Sakaki, who is from the Standard Dimension. Initially believed to be a villain, the truth is eventually revealed that he comes from a world that was decimated by an army from another alternate dimension, the Fusion Dimension, and he’s come to the Standard Dimension to get his revenge on the Fusion invaders. Although he ends up dying in a duel, his soul fuses with Yuya’s, and so he begins to explain more about this dimensional war to Yuya, in the hopes that Yuya can succeed where he failed in stopping the Fusion forces.
Yuto isn’t the most exciting or memorable companion, but I think he’s ultimately one of the ones that was best integrated within his franchise. From his original role as an uneasy antagonist to his revival as a spirit companion for Yuya, he consistently helped push the story forward and provide background information on the main conflict as it became important, which helped further to expand the world and the narrative as a whole. While I think all of the Yuya clones in Arc-V ultimately contributed to the story, Yuto was the one who solidified how the series was going to develop.
His Phantom Knights deck is also cool as hell.
Tumblr media
2. Atem/Pharaoh, from Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters
Atem is the spirit of a pharaoh who ruled in ancient Egypt, remembered for stopping a great catastrophe that threatened the future of the entire world. His soul was sealed away in one of the Millennium Items, a set of ancient artifacts that granted great powers to their wielders, and locked away his memories so that they couldn’t be used to threaten the world ever again. Thousands of years later, after his grandfather excavated the Millennium Puzzle, Yugi Moto completed the puzzle, and the pharaoh’s soul was fused into Yugi’s body. Although their relationship was shaky at the beginning as they learned how to handle their shared body, eventually the two were able to work together to help the pharaoh recover his memories and pass on to the next life.
Atem, the OG companion and (in)arguably a more relevant character than Yugi after the first season. While in some ways he stole the spotlight whenever arcs weren’t directly centered on the pharaoh, his mysterious connection to the game of Duel Monsters and the expansive world of Yu-Gi-Oh! was interesting to watch develop and grow over the series. He definitely has the best rapport with his series’ cast, and I like the way the relationship between Atem and Yugi was built up, all the way to the end. The original series was really well connected, and the bond between Atem and Yugi was a big part of that.
Tumblr media
1. Ai, from Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS
Ai is an Ignis-class artificial intelligence, meaning that he has free will, and he lived along with other Ignis AIs in a digital world called the Cyverse. After a shadow organization known as the Knights of Hanoi tried to capture the Cyverse and its power, Ignis was able to steal information from the Cyverse and hide its data within his AI body. Since then, he’s been hunted by the Knights of Hanoi, as well as SOL Technologies, a company that had used the Cyverse to power its virtual reality Duel Monsters program, VRAINS. After a widescale attack on VRAINS by the Knights of Hanoi, the hacker protagonist of the series Yusaku Fujiki was able to capture Ai, only knowing that he would act as a trump card during his fights against the Knights of Hanoi. So begins the shaky friendship of Yusaku and Ai.
I guess this is a little unfair since the series isn’t over, and the true nature of this character has yet to be revealed, and he’s an AI, but Ai has been the only source of whimsy in a series that otherwise lacks it. VRAINS is a very self-serious series with some heavy themes and crushing implications within its narrative, and Ai plays an important role to help keep the series fun with his flippant attitude, providing some well-timed bits of comedy. He’s very much the comic to Yusaku’s straight man, creating this fun dynamic between the two of them, both in and out of duels. Ai is definitely the most like a mascot of any character in this list, as a lot of his interaction with the world is through exaggerated reactions and mischief that Yu-Gi-Oh! as a franchise has never really leaned into. I also think even the way he interacts with Yusaku within duels is interesting, since granting Playmaker the ability to pull new cards from raw data storms helps keep the main character’s deck fresh and exciting from duel to duel.
