Sleeping Beauty Spring: Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child – Sleeping Beauty" (1995 animated series episode)
Tumblr media
Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child was like an animated musical counterpart to Shelley Duvall's Faerie Tale Theatre for children of the '90s. Each episode, narrated by Robert Guillaume, adapts a classic fairy tale or fantasy story with a star-studded voice cast, blending irreverent humor with sincerity. But what sets this series apart from any similar series is that each story takes place in a different culture. Highlight episodes include a Chinese Little Red Riding Hood, a Caribbean Goldilocks and the Three Bears, a Native American Snow White, African versions of Jack and the Beanstalk, The Frog Prince, and Beauty and the Beast, and Latin American versions of Hansel and Gretel, Cinderella... and Sleeping Beauty.
This retelling of the tale takes place in an imaginary Latin American seaside kingdom. The dialogue is peppered with Spanish words and phrases, and the voice cast consists entirely of Latino and part-Latino celebrities: Marie Barrientos as Princess Rosita, Ricardo Montalbán as King Carlos, Lucie Arnaz as Queen Maria, Paul Rodriguez as Jesse the Jester, Jacob Vargas as Prince Luis, Carlos Mencia as his squire Poncho, Carmen Zapata as the Seventh Fairy, Vanessa Marquez as all of the other six fairies, and musical theatre/opera singer Julia Migenes as the villainous fairy Evelina.
Apart from the Latin American setting, the plot faithfully follows the traditional story. King Carlos and Queen Maria yearn for a child, comforted only by the slapstick comedy of their clumsy jester, Jesse. But at last, Princess Rosita is born. To her grand christening – a fiesta with flamenco dancing, salsa music, and a feast of arroz con pollo and ropa vieja – the king and queen invite seven good fairies, portrayed as middle aged and elderly women with tiny wings. But the hideous old fairy Evelina goes uninvited because she shut herself away in a tower long ago and is presumed dead. Of course she comes anyway, and after expressing her offense a grand musical number, she curses the princess, but the pink-clad Seventh Fairy softens her curse from death to a hundred-year sleep.
Sixteen years later, as in the Cannon Movie Tales adaptation, the whole kingdom is dressed in rags and patches because no new cloth can be made without spinning wheels. Princess Rosita knows that spinning was banned due to an old prophecy, but doesn't know what that prophecy is. When her parents go out a tour of the kingdom, Jesse the Jester promises to look after her. But he promptly knocks himself unconscious on a column, so Rosita is free to explore unknown parts of the castle. Of course she finds a tower where Evelina waits with a spinning wheel. King Carlos, Queen Maria, and Jesse are distraught when they find Rosita sleeping, but the Seventh Fairy arrives and puts the rest of the kingdom to sleep too. Over a hundred years, a dense jungle grows around the castle.
At long last, Prince Luis and his nervous squire Poncho arrive. They've heard many legends about the old castle, but finally an old man tells them the true story. When they ride into the jungle, the trees miraculously part, and soon the prince finds Rosita and kisses her, breaking the spell. A fantastico wedding is celebrated with new clothes for everyone, Evelina "goes all to pieces" with rage (her tower explodes with her inside it, leaving just a smoking ruin), and everyone else lives happily ever after.
While the animation isn't the most sophisticated, its lively, colorful, stylized aesthetic is memorable and charming. It perfectly suits the balance between humor and heart that the script offers. As in most episodes of this series, there are two featured songs, the brief "Good Fairies' Song" and Evelina's "Que Es Esto" ("A party without me? Surely you jest-o!"), both infused with the local color of the setting.
I recommend not only this episode, but the entire Happily Ever After series to anyone who enjoys seeing fairy tales told with fresh, colorful new spins, and especially to children of different ethnic groups, who will enjoy seeing themselves in the classic tales.

5 songs, 4 outfits: Celasha Xalanthyrr
I was tagged by @lolthslover (thanks again!), so here's my Tav-to-be who's also my character from my very first DnD campaign. Meet Celasha, who has gone all the way from level 1 to 20 (and recently feebleminded Tiamat herself)! (I don't know who to tag, but anyone who sees this and wishes to do this for an OC, be my guest!)
Tumblr media
Celasha is a noble drow, hailing from the [homebrew] city of Alaundryn that she might or not have partially flooded at one point. (It was totally an accident! Long story!) She's a bard (College of Glamour).
Exiled from her home, she is initially deeply suspicious of everything on the surface, slow to trust and terrified of betrayal and wild water. Over the course of her adventures, she slowly heals and overcomes her fears. She masters fey magic and learns to control water, and realizes the surface has amazing sweets to offer. Celasha has accompanied me for almost four years in our campaign (and will do so a little longer as my next Tav) and helped me through rough times of writer's block, so I might talk a little more about her in some of the games I've been tagged in, because I need to come to term with the fact that we're about to wrap up the campaign. (I'll miss her!) 💜
Songs
1. I Let The Music Speak (ABBA) I'm hearing images, I'm seeing songs No poet has ever painted Voices call out to me, straight to my heart So strange yet we're so well acquainted I let the music speak, with no restraints 2. Contra Todo (iLe) Con el coraje de frente | Voy a ganar la batalla Hecha de viento y de playa | Soy la ola que va a romper 3. Surface Pressure (Jessica Darrow/Encanto) I'm pretty sure I'm worthless if I can't be of service 4.
Outfits
Now that part was harder! As a noble drow, Celasha values fine and elegant clothing, but will settle for something more simple when adventuring. (However, she's fond of keeping her attire always clean by excessive use of Prestidigitation, and she does the same for her companions ... travelling with surfacers is bad enough, no need to be seen with dirty surfacers!)

Bonus: This was one of her early looks I made in Hero Forge: a simple leather armor (purple, of course, the amethyst is her family's insignia stone), her beloved lute, her list of favors and faerie fire.

O what can ail thee, knight-at-arms,   Alone and palely loitering? The sedge has withered from the lake,   And no birds sing!
O what can ail thee, knight-at-arms,   So haggard and so woe-begone? The squirrel’s granary is full,   And the harvest’s done.
I see a lily on thy brow,   With anguish moist and fever-dew, And on thy cheeks a fading rose   Fast withereth too.
I met a lady in the meads,   Full beautiful, a fairy's child; Her hair was long, her foot was light,   And her eyes were wild.
I made a garland for her head,   And bracelets too, and fragrant zone; She looked at me as she did love,   And made sweet moan.
I set her on my pacing steed,   And nothing else saw all day long, For sidelong would she bend, and sing   A faery's song.
She found me roots of relish sweet,   And honey wild, and manna-dew, And sure in language strange she said—   'I love thee true'.
She took me to her Elfin grot,   And there she wept and sighed full sore, And there I shut her wild, wild eyes   With kisses four.
And there she lullèd me asleep,   And there I dreamed—Ah! woe betide!— The latest dream I ever dreamt   On the cold hill side.
I saw pale kings and princes too,   Pale warriors, death-pale were they all; They cried—'La Belle Dame sans Merci   Hath thee in thrall!'
I saw their starved lips in the gloam,   With horrid warning gapèd wide, And I awoke and found me here,   On the cold hill's side.
And this is why I sojourn here,   Alone and palely loitering, Though the sedge is withered from the lake,   And no birds sing.

The Stone’s Toll - Chapter Eight
Tumblr media
Read on AO3
“Tante Jenny! There is a rider near the gate!” Fergus shouted through the front doorway and sprinted away.
His dirk was poised in his grasp, ready to protect against any danger. The mule sauntered through the archway and snorted when its rider pulled against the reins to stop.
Claire slid off the horse and slammed into Fergus almost immediately. She gathered his body up against hers into a hug and rested her chin over the small curls that were growing even longer than before atop his head.
“M-milady?” He stared, dumbfounded at the sight.
“Oh my Fergus, I’ve missed you so much my darling boy.” She smoothed the hair at the back of his head. Her tears fell unbidden into the little brown waves and began to soak through his hair like a steady rainfall. Fergus didn’t mind, he was also soaking her dress with his own tears.
“You have been restored maman.” He stated, still shocked. It didn’t pass her notice what he called her.
“I love you mon fils. Let me look at you.” She pulled back slightly from the embrace to hold onto his cheeks with her hands. She brushed the hair that was on his forehead back and noticed the subtle changes of the boy. The bones of his face were slightly more defined and he had lost more of the roundness associated with adolescence. She even spotted two hairs on his upper lip that were darker and thicker than the soft downy hairs of the rest of his face. It would be years until it would fully develop into a beard, but she could tell what a handsome man Fergus would be. He just needed to do some more growing.
She slowly noticed the pallor of his face and the dark purple and red hues under his eyes. The way the flesh of his bone was practically nonexistent. He clearly wasn’t getting substantial meals these days. She placed the back of her hand against his forehead again and her heart skipped in fear at the blazing temperature of it.
“Dear God, Fergus, you're burning up.”
“Do not worry Milady. It’s only the winter sickness.”
There was a bulk inside the sleeve of his shirt and she pulled back the fabric to see Jenny’s attempt to bandage him. A long deep gash split through the skin of his inner arm. The skin around the wound was red and swollen, and she could see the tell tale signs of infection from the puss oozing from the centre.
“What on earth happened to you Fergus?”
“Tis simply a scratch, Milady, dinna fash.” He tried to mimic his Scottish family’s accent, and if Claire’s concern wasn’t in overdrive at the moment, she would have laughed at how cute the boy was. “Milord said I was a brave lad that day. And braw.” He beamed with confidence and pride.
“I’m sure you were.” She hugged him tight into her side. “Come inside, I need to examine your wound.”
“Fergus what stray ha’ ye brought in today? We dinna need more mouths to feed, especially wi’ young Jamie in his sickbed now too.” Jenny called around the corner of the kitchen, fixated on chopping the potatoes for supper.
“Auntie, Milady has returned to us.” He beamed, leading her inside on his arm. “I always told you she would.”
The knife Jenny was holding clattered onto the floor. She crossed herself as all the colour drained from her cheeks.
“Blessed Michael defend us.” Her hand clutched at her heart.
“Jenny- I.” What words could she possibly say now? “It’s so good seeing you again.” She stared down where Jenny was protectively holding her middle. “A fourth?”
“Thank Christ yer here. We dinna have time to waste.” And without a single inquiry over her return, Jenny dragged her up the stairs to the children’s room.
The children were all tucked tightly into their beds. Wee Kitty gurgled in her Bassinet. Her small breaths were interrupted by sharp whimpers of pain. Claire’s heart fell at the somber scene before her.
 “Ian?”
“That useless, floppy-haired nonce can bide.”
“Fergus go fetch some water to boil, and lots of clean cloth. Do we have deer or chicken bone to boil?”
 “Aye.”
“Great, can you make a broth out of it with whatever vegetables we have? Oh and um-” Her brain paused, racking her memory for the proper words. “Garlic or Rosemary too. They won’t be able to stomach any solid foods for a while, so they’ll need to sip on broth to keep their strength up.”
Jenny left for the door but paused near Claire. She squeezed her shoulder. “I dinna ken how yer here, or where ye’ve been these past months, but I am glad to have ye back. Just know I’m going to have some choice words wi’ ye once they all heal.”
“I’d imagine you would.” Claire smiled brightly and planted a kiss on her cheek. “I missed you too Jenny.”
Once she had situated the children in the sick room. She brought Fergus along with her to inspect the gash across his arm.
 “You never did tell me.”
“It was a bayonet, from a redcoat. I was holding wee Kitty and they thought she was a sack of grain so they lunged for me. I protected her maman.” He grinned with pride at the memory.
“Oh God, Fergus.” She embraced him, careful of his arm. “Though that never should have happened, I’m proud of what you did. My brave boy.” She patted his hair affectionately. “How long ago were they here?”
“Less than a fortnight maman. A week after they were gone, les enfantés were struck with la petite vérole.”
“Those bastards!” They had not only brought fear, pain, and strife into her home- Jenny’s home, she corrected herself, they had brought their disease as well and the threat that carried.
She returned her attention to his arm and carefully cleansed it. Jenny had brought alcohol down for her and she told Fergus to be prepared for the sting. He assured her he wasn’t afraid. With the puss and dried blood removed, she carefully poked around the wound. Claire asked if any of it was painful but he immediately gritted out a non. It wasn’t healing on its own and she was concerned. She couldn’t stitch it up with the infection she assumed was waging a war inside it, so all she could do was wrap it in clean cloth every few hours with garlic paste. When Claire went up to the Laird’s room to check on Ian, her breath quickened and her hands became slick with sweat. Ian insisted he didn’t need any coddling and he didn’t want to see his wife up there until he was healthy. Jenny and her worked simultaneously together to heal young Jamie, Maggie, Kitty, their father, and Fergus. They were thankful for the snow to help bring down fever, but also cursed the season for bringing sickness in the first place. Ian sprang back instantly and returned to work on the farm the next morning. Maggie and Kitty were worried for the scars left by the smallpox lesions, but Claire assured them they wouldn’t be terrible. It had spared their faces, and only a small amount of red dots lined their arms. Jamie was proud to add more scars onto his list, and proud to say he fought the monster and won.
When her nephew and niece's fevers began to break, Fergus took a turn for the worse. She had prayed that the smallpox would pass over him, but it came back with a vengeance. The infection from the bayonet wound and the virus coupled together, left Claire severely worried.
She worked tirelessly with Jenny by her side. Never once did she leave Fergus’ room and her sister had begun to worry about her as she simply stared blankly off towards the wall clutching the sickly boy’s hand in hers. Jenny had found her in such a state many times, as if her mind wandered off but she didn’t want to bring it up. When no one was looking, Claire would open the small case of vials and a syringe from her leather travel bag. Fergus didn’t notice the slight pinch of the needle to his rear and grumbled no complaint to her in his delirious state. The Reverend couldn’t smuggle much medicine, most of what he pilfered was what had been discarded behind the hospital in a dumpster. But this small amount of penicillin he had managed, made Claire want to reach out through the veil of time and kiss him in thanks.
The infection was healing nicely, but there was still the smallpox coursing through his body. With his body pulled between fighting two foreign enemies, his energy was quickly fading into a weakened state.
“Claire, it’s time. We have the certificate ready. I’ve sent the priest down from the kirk to-”
“No! I will not give up on my son!” She yelled with such ferocity, that Jenny stumbled back a few steps. None of the anger seeped through to the limp hand of Fergus that she was holding, and she kissed it gently while her body shook with rage at the suggestion.
“If the lad doesna earn his last rites, dinna say it was my fault.” Jenny slipped away to care for her now rambunctious children, who had bounced back from their sickness immediately.
That night, she never slept, and took up her usual spot beside his bed. It would get worse, before it got better. Claire was elated at the signs that his fever would soon break.
“Would you like me to tell you a story?”
 “Mmm.”
“Well, there once was a brave knight. He found a faerie at the bottom of the standing stones, and knew right away that she was his. He loved her, and protected her fiercely. They were blessed with three beautiful brave children. Two angels, and one son of their heart.” Somehow it was easier for her to pretend she was speaking about someone else. “There was a great evil that the knight had to vanquish. It was-“ She pursed her lips in thought. “It was threatening their angel babies, so the knight had to leave his faerie and guard their daughters in heaven. The faerie returned to protect her son.”
Fergus while laid fevered and asleep. Claire smoothed back the crusty hair from his forehead sticky with sweat. “Je t'aime mon fils. Être fort.  Je sais que vous êtes.” Fergus stirred slightly.
“Je t’aime maman.” His smile and voice were weak.
She kissed his forehead and he slumped back into his slumber.
Jenny stood in the doorway smiling, on the verge of tears at the sight. It felt such a personal moment between mother and son, that she didn’t want to interrupt. But when Claire lapsed into silence, she took a tentative step into the room.
“The worst of it is over.” Jenny said, both as statement and question.
 “Yes.”
“Good, now we can talk sister.”
 “Yes, I believe we should.”
“Why- why’d ye leave my brother? I’ve kent ye well over these past few years, and I’d
never imagine that you’d just give him up so willingly. Ye’d die wi’ him if it came to it.”
“He made me promise that- well we knew how Culloden would end up, everyone could
feel how much of a defeat it would be. He forced me to-“ Her brain felt muddled, keeping track of all the half-truths in her mind. “board a boat to France for the safety of our child.” Tears sprung into her eyes at that admission and her hand extended from her stomach absentmindedly, as if she was holding her belly at six months, the furthest she had been in either of her pregnancies. “Red Jamie couldn’t escape the fate of Culloden but his wife the Stuart Witch could, no one would recognise me. But I- I came back for Fergus and you, Ian, your children. I know that’s what he would’ve wanted. I just wish I knew, if he really-”
“Ye eejit he isna dead! That dunderheid is holed up in a cave somewhere on these lands,
grieving ye terribly.”
“He’s- he’s alive?” A lump formed in her throat. “I didn’t want to hope that-“
“Why on earth would ye think he’s dead! If ye had written letters to us. To let us ken ye
were safe, we’d tell your daft arse to come back home! But of course, ye couldna spare us that much mind.”
“I’m sorry Jenny, I wasn’t in a safe place to send you letters. A man wanted to marry
me.” Yes, years ago. “After I lost- he put me in an asylum when I refused his advances. I had to escape him after I lost-“ Jenny’s expression softened and she nodded, not in understanding, but in acceptance of what she had done. It didn’t do well to dwell on the past for too long.
“Well ye seem dead on yer feet, I’ll go take out all this anger on Ian.” Claire chuckled
and then kissed Jenny’s cheek. “Wi’ him out and healthy again, the Laird’s room will be free enough but I dinna want ye to be lying in that sickbed so soon.”
 “It’s yours now.”
“Ye ken Jamie and ye will always be Laird and Lady to the tenants. And no, Ian and I
occupy the same room we have fer years. I just stuck him in the Laird’s room because I was irritated at him groaning and shivering in our bed.”
Claire laughed, but felt bad for poor Ian who had unknowingly become the subject of
Jenny’s ire these past few days.
She was in the courtyard, while Jamie made his way back to Lallybroch. A deer slung over his shoulders and buckets of water weighed down his arms. He took in the sight of his wife and nearly fainted. The buckets he had carried dropped to the ground with a snap and rolled across the yard. The stiff deer slumped to the ground over the mud.
It was the first word he had croaked in months, “Sassenach.” The sound didn’t reach her ears but she could read off his lips the endearment she knew all too well.
Even with Jenny’s confirmation, she couldn’t believe the apparition before her. But could she have imagined him this way? Haggard and weary from months living in a cave. A bonnet slanted across his red hair to hide the bold colour. His beard had grown considerably from the scruff she was so familiar with. But the thing she couldn’t possibly imagine in her head was the haunted look on his face. The dark circles under his eyes and the gaunt nature of his face echoed his grief.
“No I’m. This isn’t- the after effects of the electroshock therapy” she mumbled.
She felt woozy, and her head was full of fluffy clouds. She regained her balance swiftly but stared unwavering at Jamie. His heart chilled, as if she was staring straight through his soul, but couldn’t see it.
“Claire I dinna ken what ye’re saying lass.”
She gasped at his hand on her forearm. “You’re real.”
“And so are ye. Christ when Jenny told me to get my hide back here, I dinna ken it was really true.” She fell into him and he wrapped his strong arms across her back.
“Oh, God. Jamie. Oh God.” Claire’s breath rattled onto his cheek. “Just hold me.”
She trembled in his arms, months of exhaustion, fear, pain, and heartache expressing themselves.
“I’m sorry Jamie. I’m so sorry. I - the stones.”
“What’re you apologising for lass?” He choked out. “Claire -the bairn?” She couldn’t meet his eyes.
She felt the need to run and hide as she did in the arbor of Fontainebleau. She didn’t want to face what was before her, what was behind. How could she let Jamie forgive her when she couldn’t herself? As if she were putting a sheet of metal between her and her heart, she suddenly felt nothing.
“She’s dead.” She said simply, staring at a chipped stone on the ground.
This time Jamie did collapse, and took Claire tumbling down to his lap. They held tight to one another, and Claire was the one to comfort him now. His tears soaked the wool of her bodice as he rocked them back and forth on the steps. When his eyes couldn’t produce anymore tears, he slowly peeked out of his shell. Jamie rose slowly from his spot on the steps when the sun crawled below the horizon and carried her with him to the Laird’s room.
Claire stripped him down to his sark and was prepared to ask for water, when she saw someone had already completed the task. She resumed her task and shed his final layer, exposing his naked body. It was filthy and covered in scratches, but beautiful to her all the same. When she began to direct him into the washing tub, he objected and began to take off her clothes with a practiced hand. As he reached for the final string of her shift, she moved his hand away.
 “No, tonight I bathe you.”
She pushed him down into the small tub and his knees poked out of the water. The ewer sat on the wooden table near the tub, and she plucked it up with her fingers. She grabbed a sponge as well, and began her ministrations, leaning over the lip of the tub to reach him. She grabbed some scissors as well, trimming the beard that had grown over the months in the woods.
“Can ye ever forgive me?” A dejected Jamie asked.
“For what?” She knew, but she wanted to hear the words coming from him.
“For sending you through those stones, for breaking our family.”
 “I already have.”
“What did she- Was she like her sister?”
“I don’t know.” Claire worried at her lip. “I- um. I lost her when I went through the stones. I only know she was a girl, because I felt her presence when I came back. She said she loves us.” She began to scrub harder against Jamie’s arm with the sponge to distract herself.
The pang in his chest nearly brought his head below surface of the water. All the air in his lungs fled and he was left with nothing. He stopped Claire’s arm and brought her hand to his, squeezing it tight.
 “Will you ever forgive me?”
 “Fer what lass?”
“Not being strong enough. Not protecting her in the one way I could. Not returning to you soon enough.”
“I’ve already forgiven ye for anything ye could ever possibly do. And yer not to blame for any of those.”
“Then you’re not either. If there is, it’s God for being a cruel bastard. You say you can forgive me for anything, but I’m not sure I can give you what we want anymore.”
“What I want is you by my side. Come in the water Sassenach, let me hold my wife. Let me carry this burden wi’ ye.”
With the dim light of the fire and candles dotting the room, she was confident he wouldn’t be able to see her body fully. She slugged out of her shift, weighed down by weeks of exhaustion and crawled in between his legs. Water splashed out of the top of the tub, but they paid it no mind. Jamie repeated the ministrations Claire had provided for him, but even more gently on her smooth skin. When she began to doze off tucked safely between his thighs in the water, they were both wrinkly like prunes. Jamie carried her body wrapped tight around his, and placed her on the fresh sheets.
He held her naked on their bed. The smooth skin of her back was pressed against the soft tufts of hair on his chest. They needed to talk, but for now, neither wanted to leave the warm bubble of each other’s arms. Jamie was still processing what it all meant, and so was Claire, even after months of enduring it herself. No words could repair the loss they both felt, and the heartache of time spent apart. It would just feel like a hollow repetition of events after their first born. But tonight they would just simply be. Claire looked down at her sleeping husband. For the first time in months, she felt safe. She lightly traced the skin of his face, from temple to cheek, and saw the familiar smile ghost his peaceful rest. She spread a grin in response, the first one that reached her eyes in months.

Writing Prompts
A lot of these are Au related! And some of them hint at violence/gore, so please be aware of that.
“Don’t move. They rely on sight.”
“I knew it was you!”
“Please tell me that’s not my soulmate.”
“Did you seriously get yourself stuck in a chair?”
“I am so sorry that the words on your arm are so stupid.”
“Prepare for canon fire!”
“Look out!”
“That’s gross... Cool! But still gross.”
“That was my kill!”
“Are you from the Northern Empire?”
“Well I’m not sure weather to be offended or relieved- my wanted posture looks nothing like me.”
“That is NOT how you hold (weapon).”
“Well... this is awkward...”
“Can I kick his ass?”
“HOW ARE THEY SO HOT??? HOW DARE THEY!!!”
“Be quiet! They’ll hear you!”
“Did you steal from that couple?”
“That thing has a curse on it. I’d be careful.”
“I didn’t realize it was a shrinking potion, I swear!”
“I knew (mythical creature/cryptid) were real!”
“Can you get me out of this thing?”
“I have never met you, but I know someone who needs help when I see one.”
“I left you guys alone for FIVE MINUTES!!!”
“That looks painful.”
“Yikes... Glad that’s not me.”
“We’re gonna have to cut it off before it spreads to other parts of their body.”
“And where, exactly, have you been?”
“HOW DID YOU PISS OFF ALL THE GUARDSMEN?!”
“I said distract them, not knock them out!”
“For the last time!!! That is not edible!”
“That man is crazy.”
“They’re going to burn them at the stake!”
“Well, that wasn’t what I was expecting.”
“You’re rescuing me?”
“I never knew the outside world so... big.”
“Put the fire out before we’re noticed!”
“This rescue mission is gonna kick my ass.”
“I... I think they’re still alive...”
“Are you sure they aren’t infected?”
“That’s a brutal looking scar.”
“How did you manage to pull that off?”
“Put down the (weapon)... I’m not gonna hurt you.”
“Well that isn’t normal.”
“What are you?!”
“Dragon bonding isn’t for everyone.”
“Who the hell thought this was a good idea.”
“I am no longer giving a fuck.”
“I want to give up, but I have someone worth pushing onwards for.”
“This storm came out of nowhere!”
“That was dangerous and reckless! But... it was impressive...”
“Who the hell is stupid enough to do that?”
“Can you see anything?”
“Is that what I think it is?”
“I haven’t had meat in years.”
“Was that a gunshot?”
“Can we keep it?”

“They’re weakened by silver.”
“I really wish I had my holy water right now.”
“Well that backfired.”
“I’m so hungry... Can I feed off you a little?”
“YOU DARE OPPOSE ME?”

“Are you sure you’re human?”
“That was an alien- That was an alien- THAT WAS AN ALIEN-”
“We SHOULD NOT SPLIT UP!!”

“That is not how you use that.”
“Did you know different flowers have different meanings...? The ones I gave you are quite unique in meaning.”
“Your family is... interesting...”
“If you’re not gonna eat grubs then you’re gonna starve. It’s all that’s out here.”
“That’s not human.”

“Keep up!”
“Don’t look behind you.”

“Be careful, they’re sensitive!”
“So this is a fruit...”
“When I feel bad I go beat the shit out of someone. It works.”
“DID YOU PULL THE LEVER I SPECIFICALLY ASKED YOU NOT TO PULL?!”
“In DnD we call that rolling a one.”
“[Name] is gonna kill me!”
“Rest in pieces.”
“Hurt them and I make your life hell on Earth.”
“So he’s a dumbass-”
“Someone shoot me-”
“Give it back! That’s private!”
“It was so obvious! I’m such an idiot!”
“Is that all you have?”
“The expedition was successful.”
“There were no survivors.”
“I thought I lost you.”
“Stop! Stop! There’s a cat!”
“Why am I here again?”
“Having detachable body parts is actually a convenience when you’re a cyborg.”
That’s a big ass [Animal]”
“Do you know what you’re doing?!”
“Did you seriously have to pick the lock? When I have the keys?”
“They’re dangerous.”
“And that’s my que to leave.”
“You are my greatest treasure.”
“I seriously hope you’re not thinking of doing what I think you are thinking of doing.”
“WHY THE HELL ARE YOU NAKED?”
“Is... is that a dwarf?”
“You’re as odd as your friends said.”
“There is no need for violence!”
“All I wanted was a doughnut-”
“Why are the barn lights on?”

“Thank goodness most dragons aren’t venomous.”
“Nagas are quite fickle creatures.”
“Satyrs are not to be trusted.”
“You walked into the faery ring, you belong to the fae now. I can’y help you.”
“Go ask them out! They look cute!”

“I thought humans were bigger.”
“Your highness is a royal pain in the ass.”
“That hurt.”
“I am not looking forward to this at all.”
“I do not like caves. I don’t like cavbes at all.”
“MOSS!!!!”
“This town seems abandoned.”
“The radiation levels aren’t too high here.”
“Put your masks on.”
“You know you shouldn’t give your name to strangers, especially a fae in the forest.”
“I never realized how big the ocean was.”
“I have an idea- it’s dangerous, crazy, and reckless, but it might just work.”
“Is this your child?”
“I’m surprised Cerberus likes you.”
“Hellhounds aren’t usually friendly.”
“That’s a big meal for one person...”
“Werewolves aren’t fans of silver.”
“The dumbest myth about us vampires is that we hate garlic.”
“What brings you to my territory, little human?”
“Don’t bare your fangs at guests! It’s rude!”

“Are all humans this attractive or is it just you?”
“Guns are so odd... They only do their job after they’re fired...”
“Are you usually this full of yourself?”
Do you have any idea what you just did?”

Three Minutes to Eternity: My ESC 250 (#140-131)
#140: Lordi -- Hard Rock Hallelujah (Finland 2006)
“You will see the jokers soon'll be the new kings!” I'm semi-convinced that if I heard this song when I was a child, I would've been so scared I would just hide (I also panicked at the cover of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, though that maybe because I didn't want to read such a long book). Watching it for the first time in 2020, I didn't mind it, though the monsters still puts me off. As much as I like to jam to this one, I can’t see myself listening to it over and over again. That said, one can’t take away from the sheer catharsis of this song, from the opening notes to how Lordi gleefully announces their arrival and thunders down Athens with the arockalypse. Whether it’s the first hard rock winner or the last schlager one, Lordi came, saw, and grabbed a first win for Finland after so many attempts, and made rock more popular in Eurovision for a few years. i You can’t resist yourself from headbanging to this one! Personal ranking: 3rd/37 Actual ranking: 1st/24 GF in Athens
#139: Natasha St-Pier -- Je n'ai que mon âme (France 2001)
“Mais je n'ai que mon âme pour te parler de moi, Oh, juste mon âme, mon âme et ma voix,” “But I only have my soul to talk to you about me. Oh, just my soul, my soul and my voice.” By the turn of the millenium, France switched back to contemporary ballads to represent them. While 1999 and 2000's entries didn't do well, their next two would be really strong songs amongst the weakest years ever, and that's why I appreciate France so much in the contest. Initially, I didn’t get it, because it sounded a bit derivative (not unlike what Celine Dion would sing). However, one thing which won me over was with the intro, which provided the base of a really great build. A soft intro leading to a lush instrumental, it shone above the crowd, and it turned from being "derivative" to being "gentle and sincere. Natasha delivers this with equal parts softness and grace, though the English parts did feel a bit out of place in the end. That might have cost it a (deserved) place on the podium, and France would have wait twenty more years for the next medal-placing. Personal ranking: 2nd/23 Actual ranking: 4th/23 in Copenhagen
#138: Lena -- Satellite (Germany 2010)
“I even painted my toenails for you I did it just the other day!"
Whenever you check the comments of any video on this song, you will note a bunch of angry Turkish people who insist MaNga should’ve won 2010. While I really love their song (and will end up later on the list), Satellite was a worthy winner. Along with its commercial success, Satellite is adorable because it is uptempo, sweet, and infectious. Lena acts like she’s having fun on stage and doesn’t even try to pretend. Her accent, which emerged as a result of her English teacher, adds to the charm and her overall innocence. It’s cute, which can turn off some people, but not me--I really embrace it. Also, Arilena Ara made a cover last year for Eurovision Home Concerts, which you should check out! It keeps the poppy vibe, but adds a funky edge to it. Personal ranking: 4th/39 Actual ranking: 1st/25 GF in Oslo
#137: Lazy Bums -- Shir Habatlanim (Israel 1987)
“עושה לי כוס קפה ומדליק לי הסיגריה יוצא אל המרפסת לפצח גרעינים הציפורים יורדות העציצים של המרפסת ומפזמות איתי את שיר הבטלנים” “I make myself a cup of coffee and light a cigarette I go out to the balcony to crack open some seeds The birds come down to the plants of the balcony And sing with me the bums’ song” The Culture Minister threatened to resign when Shir Habatlanim was chosen for the Israeli entry in 1987, but it adds to the charming element to this performance. After a decade in which the Israeli entries pranced around, this was something different, and the two actors really take on the role. The lyrics were a bit silly, but relatable with the bums not seeing the sun because of the buildings and doing random tasks while hanging out with the birds. The Lazy Song before the Lazy Song, I'm starting to think this is the "reality" on playing hooky, whereas "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" is the "expectations" part (and they are really high in the movie). The Blues Brothers-inspired performance ("We're coming to ya--"), combined with Kobi Oshrat's orchestration, makes this otherwise troll song into a comedic masterpiece. It's three minutes of fun and endearment, and I can't help but smile. Personal ranking: 4th/22 Actual ranking: 8th/22 in Brussels
#136: Antique -- (I Would) Die for You (Greece 2001)
"Κάθησα και σκέφτηκα Κι είδα ότι μ’ αγαπάς Μόνο εσύ, μόνο εσύ" "I sat down and thought Realised that you love me Only you, only you" Greece's first top-three placing in Eurovision is thanks to Helena Paparizou and guy whose name we do not know Nikos Panagiotidis, both who were based in Sweden at the time. They were well known for combining Greek instruments and dance beat; Opa Opa (written by Giorgios Alkaios, see #207 for his entry) is a really good example of this! (Thanks again, Nikos Terzis for composing this too) From the opening bouzouki, Die for You establishes a sense of cool; the pop production following it adds a sense of modernity that the 2001 class lacked for the most part. And compared to Je n'ai que mon ame (#139), the switch from Greek to English is absolutely natural. It feels like being in an exclusive club, filled with dim lighting and a very spacy ambience of it all--though the orange in Parken works as well. And despite being nineteen, Helena oozes cool in all the ways. From her sleek hair to her jumpsuit to how she moves, she makes the song her own, for what it's worth. I frequently find myself copying her handography, though sometimes my desk lamp blocks my left hand, making it feel a bit clumsy. Though I don't say this often, either Antique or Natasha should've won in 2001. Personal ranking: 1st/23 Actual ranking: 3rd/23 in Copenhagen Final impressions on 2001: DR tried to go big with 35,000, but everyone went to drink, and it felt like one hundred. The songs at hand tried hard to be cool, though in some places, we were better off in school. On their own, the strings in our hearts remain broke, though when the trophy did, our minds awoke. Despite the ambitions, the contest would make people leave the room. Thankfully, it was better than that of 2002! :) (On another note, of all the years Italy didn't participate in the contest, 1999 and 2001 were the most irritating. Here, Elisa's Luce (tramonti a nord-est) won Sanremo, and it's a surrealistically beautiful indie song with cool lyrics (especially it was originally written in English, and had to be changed to Italian for the contest). Had they competed, I could see a top-five finish for them, and I could see this as an all-time favorite for me.)
#135: Katerine Duska -- Better Love (Greece 2019)
“Won’t you lean on me You can lean on me Let them look, don’t know, don’t care Go deep with me...” She's not Amy Winehouse, she's Katerine Duska! I had a love/hate relationship with this song during the 2019 season. On the one hand, it’s a really good song, with a lush production and sultry vocals from Katerine Duska. The lyrics, while simple, deals with the theme of love in an interesting way--no matter who you are, you deserve a love that suits you.
On the other hand, considering my grudge towards the 2018 contest, I was worried that this may do well and restart the Greek golden age. That feeling amplified when the rehearsals started, when Katerine and co. had this faerie queene aesthetic. It looked absolutely beautiful, with flowers and fantasy and whimsy. And most important, swords (the MV had sabres whereas the live performance had epees.)!
Of course it qualified, but it collapsed in the final and placed 21st in the end. Some people attributed to how "messy" the staging was, along with Katerine's vocals. In hindsight, I could see it with the former, but the latter remained firm, and she aced that high note.
But it was a good change for Greece, showing that they can do indie music as well as pop and ethno. And Katerine's non-Eurovision songs are fantastic; especially check out Autumn Again and Athenian Skies! Personal ranking: 4th/41 Actual ranking: 21st/26 GF in Tel Aviv
#134: Netta -- Toy (Israel 2018)
“Wonder Woman don’t you ever forget You’re divine and he’s about to regret...”
This has been a total phenomenon ever since its release. However, it’s also quite polarizing, with some people really bopping to this one whether it's on the radio or Tik-tok, and others getting repulsed by the chicken noises or the strong message it provided.
For me, it's Toy's "in-your-face' nature which makes it really special. From the first listen, there's the element of surprise with Netta's looping (the MV intro on Spotify >>> regular studio intro). It then builds until Netta announces herself as a "beautiful creature" and that she wasn't going to be bullied by others. While the songwriters definitely used the "Me Too" movement as a vehicle for the song, it's Netta's influence, along with the Mizrahi instrumentation in the chorus, which packs a punch. Without those chicken noises, Toy would fall flat.
The staging had to be worked on several times, but the final result captured the song's kookiness in every way. From the fake looper to the backing dancer's choreography, the following three minutes is an explosion of fun (though some of the energy died on stage on first viewing).
In short, Netta deserved to win, and those who suggest otherwise is just mean.
Personal ranking: 5th/43 Actual ranking: 1st/26 GF in Lisbon
#133: Mariza Koch -- Panagia Mou, Panagia Mou (Greece 1976)
“Κι αν δείτε ερείπια γκρεμισμένα, όι-όι μάνα μ', Δεν θα 'ναι απ' άλλες, απ' άλλες εποχές, Από ναπάλμ θα 'ναι καμένα, όι-όι μάνα μ'…"
“And if you see shattered ruins, oh oh my Mother, It's not from other, from other eras It is burnt by napalm, oh oh my Mother...”
In their second appearance at the Eurovision Song Contest, Greece sends this politically-charged song to criticize the invasion of Cyprus two years before. The Greek military junta at the time wanted to unite the island with mainland Greece, which led to a coup. As a result, the Turkish government invaded Cyprus, and declared the non-recognized Republic of Northern Cyprus. This status remains to this day, which has hindered Turkey's admission to the European Union.
(Interestingly enough, Turkey broadcast this contest despite not participating, and censored the Greek song to replace it with a patriotic song. Haha)
Dark context aside, it ties into the folk tradition during that time, but adds a Greek touch to it with the bouzouki. Combined with thoughtful yet tragic lyrics, it stands out as a darker yet deeper tone from the 1976 contest. Mariza also conveys this with her clear, yet harsh vocals pinpoint the horrors of what was going on. Also, the orchestration adds to the grandeur of this with its lush strings.
Personal ranking: 3rd/18 Actual ranking: 11th/18 in Den Haag
#132: Chocolate, Menta, Mastik -- Emor Shalom (Israel 1976)
בוא, בוא, בוא עוד היום”, אני עוד כאן אז בוא אמור שלום, אמור שלום
“Come, come, come today, I'm still here so come say hello Say hello..”
From one heavily politically charged song to a slightly less so, haha! Emor Shalom is s very playful and cute song, the three girls charm their potential lover (or diplomatic) with their voices and dance moves.
The hidden political context comes from "shalom"--is it hello, or is it peace? When the song was performed, Israel had been independent for thirty years, but their geopolitical relationships were not good with their neighbors. So the three girls, who sung for the military, were not only hoping for a lover, but also for peace.
The song itself incorporates some elements disco with trumpets, which got me into it in the first place. I'm not entirely sure about how the latter works--they are fine, but it does feel a bit cartoonish. While the lyrics are a bit simple, they still add to it.
Personal ranking: 2nd/18 Actual ranking: 6th/18 in Den Haag
#131: Sonja Lumme -- Eläköön elämä (Finland 1985)
“Kaupungissa on yö, puistoon kanssasi jäin Sä seisot edessäin täynnä toivoa” “It’s night in the city, I stayed in the park with you You’re standing in front me full of hope” Top ten anime opening themes, part two!
From the intro until the end, I love how Eläköön elämä progresses. It not only has a sound which matches with music trends (along with those mullets, but it's the 1980s so we can move on about this...), but also has a joie-de-vivre in terms of the lyrics. I've heard about it being connected to the Cold War; considering it was before glasnost, I'd imagine one of the themes here was to enjoy every moment before the world ends.
Ossi Runne's orchestration mixes the punchy pop-rock with some really good strings and brass. An awesome instrumentation and hopeful lyrics, when put together, you’ve got one of Finland’s best ever entries.
Personal ranking: 1st/19 Actual ranking: 9th/19 in Gothenburg
Final impressions on 1985: While Sweden first hosted in 1975, the production ten years later shows their capabilities in putting on a good show. From the graphics to the stage to Lilli's hosting, it's a totally fun experience. The songs were a bit weaker than it, though there were enough gems to keep the mood buzzing. Plus, there were several good orchestral moments there (especially #193) which made it all the better!

19. Favorite Fanfiction (Authored by Someone Else)? I’m gonna try to keep this down to three.

OH! And there’s one really good bnha fic I love but I can’t remember the title?? Kinda a bnha/Tokyo Ghoul crossover? Except the only crossover is that Deku develops a late quirk that basically just makes him a ghoul. Que breaking into hospitals to eat dead bodies, lotta confusion, and self hate but he still wants to be a hero!
.........I didn’t stick to three oops. Oh well...
20. Favorite Original Story Idea (Authored by Me): I’ve got 2/3 on my mind right now. (Because I can't pick favorites to save my life.)
#1 is Introvert city girl with a fear of dogs and her mom move to a small town where the random dogs out in the woods are bigger than average and a really cute boy takes a sudden interest in her. (spoiler alert--its werewolves. He’s a werewolf. Do you know how hard it is to tell your crush about your furry problem when they're afraid of dogs? Also, add in a mysterious organization that has a problem kidnapping adolescent werewolves and we’ve got ourselves half a plot ladies and gentlemen.)
#2 is about another introvert girl (surprise, surprise) in a zombie apocalypse. It’s been months since she’s seen another human being who doesn’t want to eat her. Her story starts when she happens upon an old radio and while fiddling with it one night, she accidentally tunes into a boys channel where four boys talk to each other. there’s a lot of introverting, reading, dogs, cold weather, dead people trying to eat her, looting, and listening to boys conversations over a walkie talkie that may or may not classify as creepy.
and #3 is just classic noble girl is sent as a spy into the enemy kingdom but everything goes to shit before she even walks in the door. Mission was simple. Be a kitchen girl, poison the King's food and kill him and then escape back home during the confusion. Instead, she gets the honor of becoming the Prince’s comfort woman/concubine after the last girl did an honor killing on herself. So, new mission. Get close enough to the Prince that he tells her information and then send that information back to her country so that they can win the war. (Passing secret information along is a little easier when it's not written down on paper but instead in flower crowns and bouquets as the secret language of flowers.)
Tagging some of the people in my notifications if you feel like doing this! @imaghostwriter @alexwillow @theotherchloegrace @ps-nippets @maikosworld01 @sapphonics

SHE’S UP!!! So many feelings right now when I look at this painting. It was the first time I just went where my mind took me, not following any pictures I had previously taken or even a set drawing. And it was the painting Bonnie chose to lick. It will forever hold some of her DNA in between those layers of painting 💜 I’m very proud of how it turned out and for once, I’m not looking at something I made and scrutinizing all the details I should’ve changed or improved on before calling it done. Thank you all for being in this journey with me. . Here’s a little poem my best friend’s mom @dinairadriao wrote to me about this painting: Direto das florestas imaginárias onde os elementais tem seu lugar de poder, onde as fadas dançam a dança mágica das horas, onde todos podem ser o que quiserem ser... . ¡Saludos, y #SeanCreativos! 💭💡✏ * 🇬🇧 I couln't find out this Fata's name, but I ended up calling it "Leaf". In the middle of a typical crowd in Buenos Aires city, at first glance it looked like any human. But I couldn't help to notice the dry leaves floating around in the air and landing down right before its feet. As I found out later, Leaf was unable to step on anything but dry leaves; so it made them fall. Just the right amount to step on; I still don't know if it was able to control the seasons. But I guess that's not so relevant. Leaf looked me back in the eyes for a moment, and gifted me with just a glimpse of its true form. And right at the beggining of summer, I can swear my whole body felt five minutes of autumn. I playfully kicked some dry leaves back in the wind, and kept on walking... A dream about cadenas and magic.
I don’t remember most of the dream but we were in the faerie world. I was trying to find friends so we could make it safely back home (the mortal’s realm). So there was a lot of sneaking around and trying not to get caught. At some point we had to go into this castle with long stone hallways and secret passageways. I was with someone... a girl whose face I couldn’t see but she accidentally stumbled into a main hallway and was swept along with the crowd. The castle was brimming with magical people. I slipped amongst them as I tried to get closer to where I had seen her go. I heard someone call out for me to halt. It was a female’s voice brimming with authority. She led a group of fae who seemed to look at her reverently.
I stopped and waited for her to call out to the guards that I was a fraud but instead, she asked me where my "Cadenas” were.
Cadenas? Chains?
She raised her hand and gold sparkled from her wrist. She wore a bracelet with her name on it like the one my grandfather had made me when I was a child (and that my dad pawned off without our permission).
I looked at my bare wrist and felt a pang of longing for mine. But this was a dream and there was no way she knew about that occurrence that happened in real life.
She must have seen something in my face because gently she asked if it had fallen off or it had been stolen from me. If it had fallen or broken off it was okay, everything would be okay and I could form a new one. If it had been stolen from me though she told me i needed to be careful because the one who held it could steal my magic and strength through it and use it for their own gain.
Magic? I didn’t have magic...
An old man appeared in the hallway and somehow i knew this man had taken my friend. He looked at me with disgust and asked who had let a human in amongst them. The woman laughed and said he must be a mistake because I was one of them. I started trying to run before they could catch me and see i was human but the man grabbed my wrist. I turned angrily trying to fight his grip off and my hand glowed. it was a weak, dull glow but a glow nonetheless. My eyes widened as I realized what the woman had said was true.
I had magic within me.
It wasn’t enough to fight off the guy but it was there.
While I was looking down at my hand a young male stepped in and firmly removed the guy’s hand from mine. The young male leaned down and whispered into my ear “Claro que lo tienes, solo tienes que creer. Todo va estar bien.” I looked up into the face of someone I knew who smiled at me encouragingly and kindly.
And then i woke up.

For what has been done Cannot be undone...||Self-Para
TAGGING: Artemis Asher, Sebastian Padilla, Maneesh Khanna, mentions of others. LOCATION: Grounds of the abandoned Khanna Residence TIME FRAME: Late Night GENERAL NOTES: Though reticent to involve anyone in her musings regarding the merman from hell, Artemis agrees finally relents in a small assist in her self-assigned mission to end the problem that is Sebastian Padilla once and for all.
The only sound in the stark darkness of the night, was the crunch of the gravel of the driveway beneath her boots. She carried no weapons of any kind, save for the burning rage that seemed to be the only thing that fueled her recently. It wasn’t a difficult task to find the man she was looking for, considering he wasn’t exactly the brightest of individuals and had of course run right back to the first place he’d received helped when he arrived at Fallcrest.
Artemis didn’t bother to knock, nor did she bother to try the doorknob. There was no need to. Once she got across the police tape in place every since that stupid pool party, it was more than obvious that no had been here since. There front doors still mostly off their hinges from the rush of people that had attempted to get out of the mansion before the cops go to them. It made her job all the easier. Stepping into the seemingly abandoned mansion, she stopped in the middle of the foyer midway between the front and back exits. She could already feel the hum of the earth beneath her, her silent partner in this venture having clearly been right about it originally being sacred ground.
The faerie felt the footsteps long before she could’ve ever heard them and was quick to call out, “Running isn’t going to get either of you anywhere tonight.”
The response was immediate as two figures made their way out of one of the many rooms to the left and made their way to the exit they thought she wasn’t blocking. Having started moving long before she saw them it didn’t take long to meet them in the backyard, hands already outstretched as she guided the earth and the foliage of the ground to bend and contort itself into makeshift traps for both men. When the vampire attempted to use his strength to escape, Artemis simply walked up to him as her hand indicated for a rather sharp branch to start growing in the direction of his heart, stopping just short of piercing the skin. “Every inch of these grounds have already been blessed by witches long before, my guy. So I wouldn’t,” she warned.
“This is stupid!” the man yelled back. “I have nothing to do with whatever this idiot has done. I just came back to get my fucking passport so I could leave this place. He’s the one who tried to tag along! He’s the one you should be focused on!”
There was an oddly cam look to Artemis’s eyes as she spoke, a completely juxtaposition with the anger she could already feel  begin to surface and could witness in the way the grounds around them changed. “Trust me, he’s getting all of my attention.”
Though he’d been oddly quiet this entire time, Sebastian chose now to speak up. “Fine,” he spat out, his tone wavering in contrast to the steely look on his face. “You want to do something about that little bitch, I’m game.” He realized too late his poor choice in wording as he felt the rough tree branch wrapped around his throat tighten. Artemis’s expression didn’t change at all, it merely shifted to where she was watching as the overgrown tuna roll’s face began to swell and change in hue from red to blue. She honestly could’ve just continued with the branch, but killing Sebastian was not what she was here for.
At least perhaps not yet. She hadn’t quite made up her mind yet.
Allowing the branch to release, she watched the sad excuse for a person begin to sputter and cough as he took in greedy breathes. When he finally caught his breath again, he growled out, “Let me go and fight me like a real man, machorra.” Even in light of the use of his favorite word, Artemis could only stare. However, after a second she waved her hand in front of him and the foliage immediately let the man drop flat to his stomach on the remains of the asphalt that once made the edge of the pool.
Clamoring to his knees, Sebastian took a stance as if getting ready to try and just tackle her where she stood, before pushing off onto his feet and attempting to make a run for it by climbing up the wooden fence of the yard. Having anticipated that there was no way this asshole was going down easy, Artemis pulled out the water bottle from the inside of her leather jacket and with the switchblade pulled from her back pocket she cut the top of the bottle clean off, and just plashed it all over the man’s back.
It didn’t take very long at all for the intended effect to take place, and Sebastian found himself in a heap near the bushes, his legs having been replaced by a fish tail that was lackluster in comparison to Cat’s and was awfully rust looking color. Sauntering over to the fallen man she looked down at him with slight disgust, though whether from the look of his tail or something else, was unclear. “Now to make sure you don’t try something like that again,” she said as she raised her right hand and up from the ground shot up a tree root, piercing clean through Sebastian’s tail and effectively pinning him in place. The man let out a guttural scream, followed by a slew of swear words, and capped off by screams of “Help! Somebody help me! Help!”
Artemis took a few steps over to him and squatted down so they were closer to eye-level. “Feel free to scream all you want. I have a couple of friends who’ve already taken the liberty of setting up a silencing charm within a five mile radius. Even if they hadn’t though, I don’t really think there is anyone on the face of this Earth that would be willing to come help the likes of you.”
She stood up before he had a chance to say much else, and after a quick trip into the house came back with what appeared to be a toolbox. A toolbox that she unceremoniously let drop square on Sebastian’s caudal fin. Another scream, followed by the question, “Que putos quieres, perra del demonio!”
Artie squatted next to the toolbox, already feeling a slight satisfaction at the damage its weight had caused to the fin. As she opened the box and began to inspect the tools within, Artemis finally answered him. “You took the one place that Catalina had ever felt safe and comfortable to be herself, and you completely ripped that away from her. You took a kind girl who never saw the need to even look over her shoulder, and made it to where she now can’t stand to be alone. You made a girl who loved the freedom of being outside and basking in the sun, terrified to leave her house.” She picked up a club hammer and turned it around a few times in her hand, before locking her gaze with his, “You took something that was integral and necessary to my girl, and now, I’m going to do the same to you.”
Without much further preamble she brought the hammer up over her head and let it fall onto the man’s tail with all the strength that she could muster. Which was quite a lot as she finally allowed all of her anger and rage from the days before to come pouring out full steam. When the cracking of the bone was no longer enough, she switched over to the claw-hammer.
After what seemed like hours, Artemis finally stood back up. Having the forethought to remove her jacket when she grabbed the toolbox, the faerie was glad not to have to worry about the mess it might’ve become. She let the hammer drop back into the box, as she used her free hand to try and wipe the blood off her face. Artemis had promised that she would not fight Sebastian if she found him, and all things considered, she had kept her promise. But something told her the man had gotten the message to never, never, come anywhere near Catalina again.
Wiping her hands as best as she could, she walked back into the mansion to grab her jacket, and then proceeded to go back out the front door and down the drive to the black mini-van awaiting there. One nod to the tall brunette, and Leo had Jon dispatched to go in and do some clean-up before they called the cops. The station sure would have a field day finding not one, but of their currently wanted in one spot.
