when I mention i'm writing a novel my friends will always be like "Oh, what is it about" so I just say..."I don't know" and they look at me like how do you not know? but like most the time I literally have no clue what I'm writing

I'm a lethal trifecta; tired, drunk, and now apathetic

I'm staring at my bedroom wall, not knowing what to feel

The night resulting in better than what I could've dreamed

And yet I'm not happy

The knots in my stomach still refusing to unfurl

My heart refusing to be satiated with what I have

I sometimes wish life was easier

But then, what excuse would I have? Because even with steps and guides, I dont think I'd ever be happy beyond the surface.

My mom asked to read my writing today, and I said hell no.

My goal with writing has changed.

I started writing about a half-decade ago. I found it so amazing that there are no limits to the medium. That I could write and describe any idea I had in the moment. But they were short stories, minimal chapters at the most. All I cared about was expressing a singular scene in my mind, no forethought or follow-through. I wanted to immortalize myself with it, become famous on mediocre works with single note monstes.

But now, writing feels so different to me. I feel worlds swimming in my mind, characters fleshed out with backstories and aspirations. I find myself overwhelmed with beautiful worlds with monsters of every shape and size. And while I have been writing for so long, only now does it feel like I truly understand the medium.

Thank you, I needed the rant and wanted to talk about how much my views of the medium have changed and how it's changed me.
