Elulie 1950s (fashion dictates in flashback) also means the coin she called old was about forty years old in her eyes

Morella (going by death theories and her bracelet) 1960s at minimum and and early 70s by maximum) she’s also the youngest so far canonically so her being closer to modern day makes sense

Is having my characters be out and it be clearly stated as possible what orientation they are on page one a bad idea I don’t want people being weird about my characters or confused on their relationship

Like it’s a historical fiction so I can’t use the words I want but did a decent enough job with it and it’s relevant to the situation of what’s happening in the story

(It’s bad enough I had to learn old-timey flirtation and how couples behave via historical roll play *cries in aroace spec*)

Or like the vibrancy of the clothing aswell like it never fades overtime it’s so clear and vibrant constantly why is the light blue so bright it would be more like a muted teal

I hate "it's not trying to be accurate!" arguments for historical fiction or historically-inspired fantasy clothing choices that just. don't make sense logistically

why is that girl in Br*dgerton tightlacing her stays? what is she reducing- her upper ribcage? not only can you not tightlace in those (hand-bound eyelets can't usually take that strain, in my experience), but there's no reason to because your waistline is under your boobs. and unlike most of the series, they actually commit to the empire waistline for the court presentation gowns. small waists don't matter when NOBODY IS SEEING YOUR WAIST

why no chemise, in so many productions? fantasy/lack of concern for accuracy can't make things not chafe. chafing is not a matter of accuracy; it's a physical reality. did a wizard give everybody in the kingdom Anti-Chafing Spells?

just because you don't WANT a linen underlayer beneath a medieval tunic doesn't mean sweat won't get to outer garments and damage them- or make them need laundering, which weakens the fibers -at a time when all clothing is handmade, custom-fitted, and created from hand-woven fabrics and thus a HUGE investment

you're not just throwing accuracy to the winds as a design choice; you're ignoring How Textiles And Bodies And the Realities of Your Technology Level's Fabric and Laundering Capabilities Work

If it wasn’t for timeline and geographical incompatibility I’d say prospero probably would’ve worked at poveglia hospital (pictured on left and notoriously haunted it’s actually illegal to visit because of how dangerous the activity is)

If it wasn’t for it closing in 1868 and not necessarily being a ‘rich people’ hospital and his cousin specifically says it’s a sanatorium up in the mountains/north (presumably the caucasus mountains) because of it’s close relationship to Eurocentric Europe and hiding his accent making sense I’d say Pineta di Sortenna built in 1903 specifically for elites to be treated for tuberculosis and is in valtellina Italy is most likely where prospero worked at placing him in 1904 for his year of death at minimum meaning all the characters are from the 1900s (if the official Barbie arrest art shows Annabel and Lenore are from 1901) and the building is god tier gorgeous

The Pineta di Sortenna is now abandoned but very pretty and overgrown it’s also a 15.45 hour drive to his home Sicily via modern car so let’s say the bike time 74 hours is more accurate then he was on that damn train for 3 whole days minimum most likely 4 taking to mind stops and that’s only if he got a train in valtellina and wasn’t traveling by foot for awhile beforehand wich is most likely since there’s only a walking/carriage path to the hospital from the town itself

Long story short this feels close enough and he really freaking loves his family to go that far to just pay respects

It's Monty and Ada holding onto their masculinity and femininity with an iron grip. It's Ada wanting to be a proper lady. It's Monty being scared to show weakness and vulnerability. It's them trying to be the ideal Western/American romantic couple and trying to fill their respective roles of this type of relationship. I could make a whole video essay on them

I like your head canon and interpretation of their characters I personally think that it’s because there’s definitely something about them that is readable in the gender queer lens

My personal interpretation of Ada is she’s the opposite of an ‘not like the other girls’ girl she’s incredibly traditional on what women ‘should’ be like honestly i feel like her arc will be like what women who leave the ‘trad wife’ culture is like with her worshipping of men the way she thinks that the past was better her disrespect of women specifically (outside Annabel) but never criticizing men the attachment to traditional femininity and bottling up of her own feelings and wants to fit into that role

As for Monty i just thought it was his struggles with being either gay or bisexual and that is why he’s such a womanizer is him trying to push down his other aspects of his orientation and i never thought to look at his character with a gender queer lens but im definitely gonna look at it from that perspective my next re-read today
