Challenge Prompt was: Address the statement, “We are all broken.”

Dare we take this Statement and
STOP.
Then Refurbish
Hold it above In question For all to witness Discrimination at its best With every eye upon it Wait for it
Judgment And Justice to it is DUE! Due to its torment Of you and you and you And Me
….Of course
NOW
I repeat this statement “We are all broken.” Ever so nimbly Insert this (?) punctuation And fairly observe
You see
Without too much pause Pause…

Reblog, reblog, reblog!
Please support your local writers
Reblogging posts about writing, writers, and books may not be as pretty and fit the aesthetic of your page like supporting visual artists might, but I promise it is equally important. Writers spend years of their life on projects only to have them glanced by in 30 seconds. The books you see being recommended or on best seller lists got there because their agents and sales teams had tens of thousands of dollars to spend to make sure everyone in the world had heard of the book and paid reviewers to read and rate. Most authors don’t have this luxury. They make their entire living off of word of mouth.
It takes less than a second to reblog a writer’s post, whether it be an excerpt or a sales notification. Signal boosting can literally make or break someone’s career and make a dream come true. If you don’t have time to read or the money to spend on a book, just reblog and help spread the word. Help that book get noticed. This site spends a lot of time preaching about supporting diverse narratives and wanting more representation, but none of that can happen if you don’t support the people trying to provide you that content. Show the big companies–the ones with money–that these stories matter.

This is a beautiful bunch of ridiculously talented poets! There is inspiration, there are challenges, and there is friendship. :)
Sammie is an amazing writer/author/poet on top of being one of the most generous souls I’ve ever met. She has devoted her life not only to writing, but to aiding others along the way through work in prisons and various writing sites and god knows what else this saint has up her sleeve!
She’s also super gorgeous, so go check it out!!

Yes! I have a Facebook group for #writers. We’re a friendly bunch. You should join us. Be heard.

In Optimism Turning
I woke this morning With a sun in my hair The kind of burning That doesn't break the skin It's been a while since I felt a mercy like that So I sunk into you as you are Always warm and beside me We made love on the whispers It should be cold at this hour But the A/C is running Because nothing operates Per manual in these parts I've learned never to Expect anything less Cyclical has never existed for us We run with a flow from somewhere else I won't complain about that I always pined for a changing Now a changing I get on repeat I don't have to beg any longer My thoughts have fallen lately Obssessed with the stones in a row Lined in front of us We must cast onto ourselves The freedom we will find In this skeleton waiting Without resistance For us to lock the closet And I'm okay with it now I would do anything for you For us For them Although I may not even once Act on a gracious note Just know it's never been a dry endeavor And we'll dance when this is over You don't have to collect any tears Just be there when I finish sinking Reemerge warm and feathered again You have always been more patient than me Thank you for never Expecting a pretty thing Or a conscious head To rely on

I love the humanness of this piece! It's beautiful and READABLE, which is something I struggle with when I write poetry.
This is a perfect example of modern poetry.
You’re dancing in circles,
Because you love Joan Baez,
And sometimes we talk,
Of a new generation -
Why we want so much,
To mark our names,
At the top of the crowd,
When we can stay humble -
I hug you close,
But I can’t have you,
You’re not mine,
So we dance to forget -
I want it tattooed,
Near to my chest,
Give me all that you got,
I can’t stop to think :
“And if something,
Come crush on me,
Would I scream,
How much I fucking love you?”

Timeless words. @vasilinaorlova (via @savage-words)
Green light
Beyond the window and beyond
The limit of life and death;
I am resurrected,
A trailing light,
A line going through the lane
Of nothingness dissipating in the dark,
A dot
In a number of arbitrary dots.
And you, a flower,
You are as if non-entity,
Nonexistence to an extent,
Notimeness, if I may,
No,
Timelessness itself.

Writers Creed Interviews: @paratmin
We had the pleasure of speaking with Atmin, of @paratmin. It was a pleasure getting to know him, and we hope you enjoy his lovely responses as much as we did.
WC: Thank you for taking the time to talk to us. So, what is the story behind your url?
A: Well, to be honest , the story behind my url is just the fact that i use a similar username for a lot of platforms and i find it ideal just cause it reveals my identity but not completely. And as I see most people are confused about my identity and so it serves the purpose. I believe people should have a few personal one on one conversations to know my identity. Just to let people know that I’m a guy, so they don’t get confused anymore with my gender…haha.
WC: haha that’s fair
WC: Do you have any nicknames then?
A: No specific nicknames cause most people like to call me by my name, even my family members. Though sometimes randomly nicknames are used when people might have love flowing in large amounts for me and ready to ooze out of them in the form of nicknames.
WC: haha
WC: what got you into writing? why did you start writing?
A: Well, I am a sufficiently creative person and it’s due to the creativity of my parents that rubbed off against me. I have been writing short and weird poetry for numerous people on various occasions right from their birthdays to other celebratory things for them like graduations and stuff. All of this cause my mom wanted to me to do so firstly and somehow i enjoyed doing it and my mom had fun too seeing what absolutely out of the box and unthinkable things i would write. She encouraged me to do this all this while and i wrote a few things for my professors as well. I got into writing stories on Quora firstly and few of my stories and stuff got a good response and i wrote a few more there , but i found the space not so effective after sometime due to some technical reasons. I then switched to tumblr gradually. Also, I really like some bollywood movies and some hollywood ones. The way people told stories and how it moved people watching it was a great feeling for me personally. I somehow found out that there were a lot of stories living inside me and i wanted to tell them in my own way. That’s how i thought about writing stories. Also, being on tumblr has helped me incredibly with constructive criticism. I am trying to put in my best so that readers have a good experience every time they read.
WC: aww it’s so sweet how your mom encouraged you, and I for one, am glad she did.
WC: what do you like to write about? are there topics you gravitate towards more so than others?
A: I love writing about everything that is connected to humans emotionally. It could be love, heartbreak , betrayal, failure, success and so on and so forth. I also love writing about the effect of these emotions on the human. Also, I like writing about inspirational things and events. That’s cause when I try to inspire others I find inspiration too. I always look at writing about multiple things that happen in life with various life experiences that we have and also how they affect us. I also like to write something which includes comedy in it . So, in total anything that generally affects us and leaves an impression on our personal lives , is something that I want to write about. Most of this is what everyone has experienced sometime or the other and can relate to. I want my writing to have impact on people in a positive manner mostly and other times i want them to relive their experiences in some manner.
WC: that’s beautiful
WC: keeping with the theme.. why do you like writing?
A: Writing is something that liberates me personally ! I like to put down my experiences and emotions in the form of written pieces , poetry and also convey them through the stories i write ! I have numerous experiences that I want to share and write about ! Everything happening outside stimulates me in someway and I want to write it down ! Also, something that makes me write more is the impact that it has on people. Most importantly I choose words as a form of expression and sometimes I want to turn them into the stories ! If appreciation comes my way it stimulates and provokes me to write more and better !
WC: lovely response
WC: how long have you been writing for?
A: To be honest I have written since words made sense to me , but all i wrote was practically just good for my mom to read while others would have just laughed at it. So, I have been writing stories for about 3-4 years now but on different platforms. Poetry I have written for a longer time but not something as meaningful as it is now and it’s been only about 4-5 months and all thanks to the talented tumblr poets .
A: Also , quotes were something I wrote more seriously being on tumblr and it’s been 4-5 months too for them.
WC: well we’re glad you’re here :)
WC: has anything strange happened to you because of writing?
A: The strangest of all the things is appreciation ! People appreciating my work was the last thing I could ever think of. It’s cause I never explored myself with writing earlier to this extent. It’s strangely beautiful ! Fortunately I have still not got hate from others too ! Also because of my writing some people came forward and talked to me and we became friends on tumblr. I got to know them better too ! I believe through writing I strangely have found a way to express and for example if I am angry , depressed or happy I can put it down with words and dilute my emotions to some extent and thereby become calmer overall. Writing is really journey of also reliving some wonderful and enlightening experiences and thereby it helped me in self development too which I never thought of when I started it. Also, it gives me some amount of confidence for one of my dreams that is to be able to write stories which the world would like to listen to and that I will have an audience that would be happy to read or see them through movies. This was something I was always a bit skeptical about and the belief was never there to the extent I have today. I just hope however that the appreciation I get today is honest and that people really like stuff I write from their heart cause it means so much to anyone who writes. So, it’s a lot of strange things coming in with writing ! But it’s all strangely beautiful and probably life changing !
WC: another beautifully worded response
WC: last question.. are there any fun facts you would like to share?
A: I have read the least amount of novels that anyone could think of ! I like more of bollywood movies than hollywood and am influenced by them ! I am a person who is from an engineering background and still getting a degree in the same field . I like trying various kind of foods but all vegetarian . I like going on roadtrips with close friends or family. I like the places that have the least population when going for a vacation , just for the isolation and time away from the world ! I Anyone who wants to talk to me here can ping me anytime and I will most definitely reply and want to be friends with the person ! I avoid parties mostly even though I’m called and don’t like socializing a lot ..hehe . My head is a box of wildest imaginations and stories that are super awesome for me but maybe weird for others but I like to see reactions of other people. Also, I am an Indian and a proud one. Lastly, I give my 100% in a project, relationship or anything I’m involved with cause I hate disappointing people and so am a person trying to please everyone and accommodate them too !
A: And I love good music , whatever the language is!
WC: beautiful
A: Thanks ! Lovely to have an interview with you!!

You are all so young, but when love fails you as you near a certain age, you begin to wonder “Is this is it?” “Was that my last chance?”, but the thing you must understand is that just as you can say “True love never dies.” you must also realize that our desire to love and to be loved never dies either. No matter how much we may push those dreams aside. No matter the age, there will always be new chances for love, you must simply find like-minded people who are as open to it as you.
Never give up on the possibility of love!

Writing Prompt: Why does the hound dog howl?
“Why She Cries”
A hound that bellows through the night Wails a cry not wept to muffle Her howls are only tried and trite To a tame ear deaf to struggle
Let her sing her piercing call Do not cease her tireless fret Her story spirals far beyond your small And narrow label, "just a pet"
Her eyes have shown a sorrow deep Harrowed trials she’s wandered through It is for these reasons she may weep Her untold worry does accrue
For this she hollers into pines A wood for miles behind your border Her woeful scream will not resign Til she restores her family's order
The pain that feeds your hound dog's whine The tale that fuels her howling Began two weeks before the time Your rubbish brought her prowling
She was only looking for a treat To curb her famine and her pain So seven children from her teat Could nurse and drink her milk again
She was drying to the will of nature A starving dog without a bone But she left those pups in way of danger When she found your home
And while she's grateful for your love She only needs one hour of freedom To find the babes she's speaking of So that she may warm and feed them
In your fence, you jailed this hag Good intentions were to salvage You gave her name and bowl and tag But left her pups to open ravage
Her bawls they answered for ten moons Until a storm came from the skies You scolded for those blinds she chewed But she could not hear them from inside
And from that night, their whimpers ceased Although she hopes to hear an echo She will return with puppies from the trees If for an hour you’ll let go
She will race the hollows of the forest And find their belly's growling She will fill them full and make them nourished Come home with babes no longer howling But, you see... She has not the heart to understand Ten years have passed this mother by The hound cries for naught but bone and sand Left in mourning til she dies

Writing Prompt: Beginning Line, “I drink a cocktail of moonlight.”
I drink a cocktail of moonlight But you see I do not swallow I breathe The glow of that rock Its remnants hushed To a dust of humbled rays Boasting the warmth Of a million lights Pulled by the touch Of a blackened nothing It crawls to the very corners of me Into each and every crater that craves To taste these memories of centuries Traveled by the Sun Unknowing And boiling in her own innocence Her majesty all but aware Of the weight she holds over Countless souls Who are one in the same Once filtered through the teeth of time Softened in broad strokes And spilled graciously over us Through this blessing of the Moon

“Content Unknown” by @scrawls-of-daisy-arkanian
(via @scrawls-of-daisy-arkanian)
Oh please, more! Tuned in...
Content Unknown
A man stands in front of a house. His nails are yellow, like the nails in the structure. His teeth are stained pink, just as the windows. His skin flakes like the paint on the untended building. If I were to describe him further, you’d be trapped in a nightmare for a very, very long time.
Nobody has seen this man’s eyes. Maybe they don’t exist. Maybe he doesn’t exist. Has anyone seen this man?
A posting on a telephone-pole reads:
“Missing: a man Reward: a plunge into the unknown If found, call: out towards the darkness while flailing your arms paroxysmally for about 3 consecutive minutes. Don’t worry, we’ll find you.”
At second glance, the sign appears to be blank. At third glance, there is no sign. At fourth glance, the sign never existed. Do not glance a fifth time, trust me.
A house sits behind a man. Its nails rusted, paint chipped, windows stained, and content’s unknown. Is there anything even inside? Does that frighten you?
Outside stands a man, if you see his eyes you’ll notice that they’re sad. That they’re sorrowful and protective. That they’re wanting and greedy. That they’re all-seeing, non-discriminatory, and patient. That they’re very, very sad.
The man will lead you into the house, but I’m curious, of which are you more afraid? It doesn’t matter, because the story ends when you enter, but I am curious.

A punctual and essential read. :)

We live in a world where social media is gradually taking on a larger role in our lives with a heightened focus on the individual. So why not escape the sunshine for a minute and read Jennifer Ayer’s piece ‘This Is Me’ where she talks her perception of this ever digitalised world and the pressure it places upon all of us to stand out among the shouting crowd.

@poetryportal always delivers on time. Satiety upon poetic perfection, and in this moment, I am in love. @sweetsullen1, your insides are fantastic in script.
Midnight Blue Awakening
My mind is a graveyard - old memories and thoughts put to rest long ago. Upon many different occasions, those thoughts and memories resurrect and threaten to pull me down into their dank, tempestous graves.
There are times I bury myself alive, living among what was once dead. Other times, I wonder why the deepest thoughts seem to occur when I am in darkness of mind. Sometimes, I consider color. Who decided that bleak, blackness is to be negative?
There are times I am comforted by the absence of color. That is all black is and nothing negative. Each color has its own hue, and therefore, its own view. Light and dark must equally balanced, no one should be better than the other. Yet, in the midnight of my mind, there is blue.
There are times I want the comfort dark brings. Blue is the other half, telling me not to go too far. Am I honestly able to be both? Or am I not fully being who I am? Truly, I am lost, walking among my cranium cemetery. There is no fear here. I am delighted - it is the final realization, the ephiphany of hidden parts.
Only I can decide to awaken inside and be fully what I hide.

“The Diamond Flower” by @randommittys. Beautiful imagery! Love this so much!
The Diamond flower
The flower blooms from the engraved cuts that the diamond himself left His hands left behind scorching fire wounds that absorbed the finest leftovers his edges left So the poor little flower had to pick up the pieces to become strong and cold like the diamond she became brilliant, polished and captivating but the crisp little flower was no longer there instead a dainty divine Diamond flower
