They don’t like me because I’m fat.
They don’t talk to me because I’m fat.
They don’t include me because I’m fat.
They are disgusted with me because I’m fat.
They lie to me because I’m fat.
Because I’m fat.
Because I’m fat.
BECAUSE I’M FAT.

I will never understand why s3lf h@rm isn't included in the topic of harm reduction.
Providing clean, sterile tools, and the options of duller or less sharp options to help you stop/not do as much damage (things not made of metal as an example.) Safe spaces to hurt yourself so you can have medical attention quickly if you need it, and without judgement or the possibility of forced hospitalization. Teaching people the risks and helping them know when an injury needs extra attention, and what kind of attention to give it. Giving free tetanus shots if someone doesn't have one, providing medical supplies for people to take, and connecting people with resources to help them quit on their own terms.
it's really no different than other addiction recovery services that are focused in harm reduction. it has the same foundation, the same theories, just different methods. the same way harm reduction for people who do uppers is going to be different than downers (trying to use non-descript language)
And this is coming from someone who has also struggled with substance addiction. It's really no different at all.
This isn't to say I think you SHOULD s3lf h@rm. But if you're going to, putting you in a worse place doesn't make sense. I will always tell people the way to patch themselves up if they need it, and tips to keep themselves safe if they are going to continue, because why wouldn't I?
Harm reduction is extremely effective in practice. Not putting the pressure of complete sobriety takes a weight off of the person in recovery, allowing them to make their own choices and have control of how they want to get better. It makes people in recovery feel a lot less shame, which reduces relapses and increases the person's confidence in themself.
People always say recovery isn't linear, so we should be advocating for ways to allow people to get the help they need when they are hitting bumps in the road. the goal should not be to try to make recovery as linear as possible. it should be to make it as safe as possible.
Be safe people 💜💜
