Calling All LGBT+ Artists!!!
Hey everyone!! Ammy here.
Changing up the format of my blog a bit to be more of a magazine. My goal is to have the website be an art collection for the LGBT+ community. To do this though, I need SUBMISSIONS!!
So, I thought I would do a little competition.
From now until June 30th, anyone who submits art of any kind (digital art, physical art, stories, poems, videos, gifs... you get the idea) will be entered in a random drawing to win a customized theme! The topic doesn’t have to be LGBT+ related, although it certainly would be cool.
If you have any questions, let me know!

LGBT+ Fanfics (Avengers) II
So! I’ve had a few people ask what about good recommendations for really good LGBT+ fanfiction that’s not m/m*. So, I figured I would do a miniseries on it!
*Not that I don’t like that either, but variety is the spice of life
Day 2: Steve’s Pride
Note - unfortunately, there’s not many out there for this subject. Let me know if you have any good ones!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. American Values by phoenixflight
Rating: General Audiences Status: Complete Pairing: N/A
The one-shot is just a ball of fluffy goodness. Poor Steve! He goes out for groceries and ends up with body paint. You’ll have to read more to find out what happens next, no spoilers! :)
2. All-American Pride by imafriendlydalek
Rating: Teen Status: Complete Pairing: Tony/Steve
Okay, okay. I know I said I wasn’t going to do m/m. But this one is my favorite!!! It’s the first in a 3-part series about Tony and Steve and pride in general. Super fluffy and sweet, and super funny. Make sure to check it out!
3. #LoveWinsAmerica by Agent C
Rating: General Audienes Status: Complete Pairing: Tony/Steve
One of the fics inspired by the above “All-American Pride” by imafriendlydalek. Similar situation, a bit more detail, and even more fluff (Like seriously, I’m going to get cavities at this rate). I love the tie-in to a rally for #LoveWins.
Conditional Support by BothWaysTrustGoes is a good Ace Tony fic, that's based on them coming out to friends and family. (TW for aphobia tho)
Hey Anon! :)
I haven’t read it yet, but I’ll have to check it out. Have you read the “What’d I Miss” series by TenSpencerRiedPlease? It’s also really good, but deals a lot with aphobia.
I’m not sure you represent you. (Sorry, Nico and Alex)
Those who laud the Rick Riordan for his for his diversity in characters point out the different facets of the LGBT community that are represented. There’s Nico di Angelo and Will Solace, a gay couple who are carryovers from Riordan’s previous series, The Heroes of Olympus. There’s Alex Fierro, a genderfluid/transgender individual and child of Loki, the Norse trickster god. It’s important to note that the entire premise of the series (and others by Riordan) is that these people are the children of gods and humans. And there lies the problem.
None of the characters mentioned above are depicted as purely human. As stated before, Alex is the child of Loki. Nico di Angelo is the son of Hades. Will Solace is the son of Apollo. All three are half-human. While this gives them “cool powers”, I also felt a (most likely unintentional) insinuation is that their identities are simply a result of being nonhuman. After all, if nature is the main influence of personality, then it makes sense that the children of the “adventurous” Greek pantheon/ Norse pantheon would have a similar mindset to their parents.
It is also interesting to note that the characters’ “godly parent” is always a god not entirely beloved in their pantheons. Hades is often depicted as a villain in greek mythology, the jealous brother of King Zeus. Apollo, while not depicted outright as a villain, was known for chasing after women and later ruining them after being scorned. Loki is almost always portrayed as both the scapegoat and the villain. In fact, the Magnus Chase novels themselves portray Loki as the villain. Alex’s abilities and her gender identity is hinted to be because of the fact that Loki, a shapeshifter, is her mother. Again, this insinuates the idea that these LGBT characters are not human.
And as someone who is genderfluid, that doesn’t sit well with me.
Day 1: The Micro-Fandom that Stole My Heart, a.k.a Asexual!Tony Stark
1. Aces Trump Kings by Unadulturated (@miniongrin)
Rating: Teen Status: Complete Pairing: Pepper/Tony
The series is pretty much just “Hey, what if Tony Stark was ace?”. The author just runs with it, and depicts asexuality in a very positive way which isn’t always the case. Aces is very well written, and Tony is spot on, even when his “playboy” attitude seems to be a lot of his personality in the comics and in the MCU.
2. Enter Pepper by lucelafonde
Rating: Teen Status: Complete Pairing: Pepper/Tony
I love this story. The author themselves is aro-ace, and says how Enter Pepper is based on their own experiences. And you can tell. Hope they upload more one-shots!
3. The Question by fadewords
Rating: Not Rated Status: Complete Pairing: Pepper/Tony
One of my favorites. I’m honestly not a huge fan of Tony/Pepper, because reasons. But, this is one of my favorite stories in the realm of Ace!Tony.
4. Reputation by qwanderer ( @qwanderer)
Rating: Teen Status: Complete Pairing: Pepper/Tony
Reputation was actually inspired by another on the list, Aces Trumps Kings. It mostly focuses on Tony’s relationship with Happy Hogan, keeping it light while going into Tony’s psyche in general. Everything is realistic and plausible, and definitely fits within the MCU universe. Good job, qwanderer!!
Let me know if you guys have any other recommendations!!
I’m sorry, this is one of the best explanations I’ve found. XD
~AS
Being straight is like being in gryffindor: all the main characters are always gryffindor, there’s tons of merch for gryffindor, and no one’s gonna give you shit for being in gryffindor.
Being gay is like being in slytherin: everyone has heard of it, but the merch is few and far between so you have to really want it. The only slytherin characters are secondary and morally gray. Some people think you are evil.
Being bisexual is like being in ravenclaw: there is no merch. there are no major ravenclaw characters. people definitely try to lump it in with either gryffindor or slytherin, and there are a few weird stereotypes.
being asexual is like being in hufflepuff:
Ser also has been used in popular fiction (most notably, Game of Thrones) as a masculine title (in A Song of Ice and Fire, it’s used for knights).
Personally, I like Sai. But then again, I’m a fan of The Dark Tower.
Let me know what you think! :)
Openly LGBT+ people of tumblr, I have a task for you.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to come up with a gender-neutral word that takes the place of formalities such as “sir”, “ma’am”, “madam”, etc. Because I want to be a goody-two-shoes and refer to people by a formal title but I also don’t want to ruin that by misgendering someone.
If there’s any group out there that can get society as a whole to accept and embrace a new word, it’s you.
Good luck.
This message will self-destruct in 5, 4, 3, 2
Let's Talk - Gender vs Sex
Okay. So gender and sex have been big buzzwords lately. But what’s the difference?
It boils down to two things - “being” and “feeling”.
According to the Oxford dictionary, sex is defined as “Either of the two main categories (male and female) into which humans and most other living things are divided on the basis of their reproductive functions.” In other words, sex is determined by what you were born as. For example, I was born female, therefore my sex is female.
The same dictionary defines gender as “The state of being male or female (typically used with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones)”. In other words, gender is what you identify as.
TL;DR
Sex = “being” (note the quotation marks) Gender = “feeling”
Got it? Good. Because here’s where it gets complicated.
Laws like North Carolina’s “Bathroom Bill” are based on sex. This means that people are required to use bathrooms according to whether or not they were assigned female or male at birth. It’s supposed to keep people from hurting each other. Okay, fine. But what’s the problem? Gender dysphoria and other people’s reactions.
Let’s say that you identify as female, but were assigned male at birth. You’ve had “the surgery”, wear traditionally feminine clothing (which is a whole different topic, for a later time), and wear makeup and have an awesome hairdo. According to the bill, you would have to use the men’s bathroom, because you’ve been assigned male at birth.
For a lot of people, this causes a lot of discomfort. For one, it causes gender dysphoria, or the feeling of “wrongness” that one would get from being shoved into a role (if you can’t relate, think of how you would feel if someone shoved you into a pink fairy dress and a faceful of makeup or a fake beard and a lumberjack outfit). It also tends to make other people feel very uncomfortable. After all, someone who’s transitioned into a big, burly, “manly man” is going to get a lot of looks from the people around him. He might even get reported as a perv.
The concept of gender and being anything other than your sex has been ridiculed in the past and present, both in life and in pop culture. LGBT+ characters in general have been seen as cannon fodder for drama, or the villains. Teens are ridiculed for what they feel. Parents as a whole usually don’t understand a lot about gender and sexuality, especially the more “unique” genders such as genderqueer and agender.
And yes, I am totally talking from experience. I identify as genderfluid. As in, some days I dress up and wear pushup bras, and others I wear a collared shirt, blazer, and a homemade binder (***DON’T BIND WITH ACE BANDAGES BY THE WAY**** I use a converted camisole or a sports bra until I can get a real one). I don’t wake up and decide “hey, I want to be a guy today”. I fluctuate between masculine and feminine, often in stages of weeks or even months of feeling the same.
So, It’s getting a bit long, so I think I’ll cut it here. Let me know what else you want me to do another “Let’s Talk” about, and stay tuned for next week - LGBT+ and schools.
