Mesmerized.

When writing a blog post, I find that after a while it gets a bit rough. You aren’t sure what to post. You aren’t sure how to phrase it. You aren’t sure if your readers would like it. I find that ironic, we live in a world full of inspiration. You could walk down the street and turn the corner and bump straight into inspiration. It’s the over thinking that gets you to stop and gather your wits before turning that corner. Ergo you don’t really end up bumping into Mr. Inspiration. I find that I have a whole bunch of crazy ideas swirling around the abyss I’d like to call my mind. Yet I don’t allow myself to go through with the ideas I’ve had because I feel as though they won’t ‘fit in’ with the type of posts I’m expected to write conjure. Yet what does 'fitting in’ mean really? Does fitting in always mean a good thing? After all as Dr. Seuss once said, “Why fit in, when you were born to stand out?” I guess what I’m trying to say here is, that I apologize if my content isn’t what you’ve always wanted/ expected from me/ this blog but I’m hoping to challenge myself, and slowly build up. Isn’t it supposed to be quality over quantity, anyway? I’m currently rebuilding a new vision as to which direction I’d like to take this blog in, will keep you guys updated!

The Bee Project

How could I start a post on bees without including something from the bee movie?

I’m pretty sure everyone knows that the bee population of the world is decreasing at an alarming rate, but how many of us are actually doing something to help? If bees die out, chances are we will too.

One thing you can obviously do to help is plant more flowers! (duh)

Anyway, just to help you out Cheerios is doing a promotion where they give out one hundred million seeds out for free to anyone who’s interested in buying them! Their website offers more details. 

They’re sending out a variety of flowering plants, so not only will you be(e) promoting a bee culture but you’ll end up with beautiful flowers! What has one got to lose? I urge you all to help out and take part!

Films & Things

Film is something I’ve always been enthusiastic about. When I was younger, we used to own a CRT computer and I spent most of my time navigating my way through Windows Movie Maker. I used my webcam and all the transitions and effects that were available. My first camera was an old Canon film camera, I didn’t have the luxury of being able to shoot as many photos as I would have liked to and then choose the best of the lot. I had a film roll which allocated room for thirty pictures, and then I had to get them developed. A few years later my parents got me a red Olympus digital camera. I used that camera to film little videos which I continued to edit together on a laptop. It was around this time that I made music videos, throwing in a little stop motion here and there. I began exploring YouTube around this time. YouTube was key in helping me gain inspiration and view things in different perspectives.

Along with cinematography, photography had always been an interest for me. I had taken part in a few photography competitions and attended a photography workshop by the American Embassy. I would carry my camera around with me everywhere I went (the same way one would always have a phone on them). I worked on my own, scrutinizing the internet for ‘tips’ and ‘advice’ on photography and film making.

While exploring the Dubai airport during our layover there in 2011, I used some money that I had saved up and to buy a Fujifilm FinePix. I was the kid who carried her camera around and continuously took pictures and videos of almost everything. I think I annoyed quite a few people doing this.

After some time with the Fujifilm, the battery started wearing out faster than usual and the camera slowly began to decline in its functioning. So in 2014 I spoke to my parents and we decided decided to get the slightly extortionate Canon camera that I had been fantasizing about for years.

So now I decided to begin a blog for anything I want to put up in relation to film, photography and media in general.

Don’t try to kid me man-cub,

I made a deal with you.

Just in case you were confused, the title and the first line of this post come from The Jungle Book. I thought it would be quite fitting as these photos were taken in the jungle.

These were taken sometime last year when we were camping, pitching tents, making fires and observing nature without any network coverage. All in all this provides you with the opportunity to disconnect, wind-down and take sometime to yourself to relax. It also helps that this time without distractions helps you think for yourself, form stronger connections with those around you and figure out more interesting ways to occupy yourself (think board games at midnight and discoveries at dawn).

These photos however were taken as the sun was going down one evening whilst we were on a park round. It was beautifully magical.At dawn the next day we discovered wreckage of a small ship that had been damaged due to collision with rocks beneath the surface, it was a truly eerie experience. In conclusion these are a few memories that made this a very memorable trip.

          The sense that the future is coming too quickly.

So last night a few of us decided to head down to Asylum at the Independence Arcade for dinner. We sat outside so we could have a great view of the amazing musicians who were performing live. So this meant that we ordered from the Tapas menu. Between the four of us we ordered a Margarita Pizza, Fish and Chips , Irish Wedges, Twice Cooked Chicken Wings and Albondigas (which are lamb meatballs). All in all the food was good, the pizza was large enough to be split around the table and the Albondigas was a crowd favourite.

While the food was good, the dessert turned out to be amazing. Unfortunately the four of us didn’t experiment very much, we ended up eating the same cheesecake with different toppings (blueberry, strawberry, passion and butterscotch). There was a nice layer of crust and on top of that was some of the most creamiest cream cheese mixture I’ve ever eaten. The cheesecakes were devoured within minutes. If at all the only downside to this cheesecake would be that there wasn’t as much topping as we would’ve liked, just a light drizzle.

The night wound up being a lovely time for everyone to just relax and enjoy themselves. 

All in all it was an enjoyable dinner and we hope to definitely go back soon (and try out the other menu as well).

Let’s Have a Little Chat

I felt like it was important to have an introductory post up as the first post on my blog, but I was afraid it may seem too formal. So I thought about it. What’s the best way to introduce myself? Conversations are great.. I love talking to people and getting to know them. Hence the title ‘a little chat’. I’m very aware that this will probably be a one sided conversation considering it’s a blog and what not but you can click the ‘message’ button up there, or shoot me an email if you want to get in touch! Also to add to the friendly atmosphere, what’s better than a nice cup of hot tea? (Or coffee if you prefer it, or milkshake if you dislike the previous two, or water. Whichever works.)   

So while you’re comfortable let’s me introduce myself. My names Aleena and I’ve lived my whole life on this beautiful paradise island. I’ve been blessed to be able to say that I’ve been able to travel around our little globe, and I hope to continue to visit new places. I like curling up in bed with a good book, or even flopping on the couch with a good movie or show. I enjoy the warm weather almost as much as I enjoy the cold. I like meeting up with people at coffee shops, theatres, malls and just having a laugh with them. I believe this is a beautiful world filled with amazing people, and I would love to get to know some of them. 

This blog is sort of a way for me to express myself. In writing, photography, possibly clothing (testing the waters here), and whatever else I want to. So hopefully you’ll get to know more about me as you explore. So stick around, get comfy (do you need blankets? Orange juice? Maybe some cheesecake? Whatever it takes for you to get comfy) and hopefully I’ll see you around.
