i need to learn 3d modelling so that more than anything my power to mod persona 4 golden can grow
#rambles#modding#the thing is i'm SO BAD at following tutorials#i've always learned better by doing my own thing. messing around with whatever tool it is until it works#but that isn't really something i can do with 3d modelling.#or at least it's not something i can do at a total beginner level. i imagine it'll be kinda like how i learned coding#(did a couple free online classes and once i learned the very basics/got bored i just did my own thing)#but i started THAT when i was like 14. i wanna be as good at blender as i am with html/css NOW!!!!!!#<- is not even that good w html#<- because of the aforementioned ''hates taking classes on this kind of thing'' thing

similar to the greentext stuff - i was visiting with my neighbors and their grandkids were around, and I said to this eight year old, "Hey, you wanna know something cool? I was playing the game when the Endermen came out." and his eyes went wide, like this kid looked like i told him i landed on the moon. His grandma thought it was really funny, and she said she has no idea what i'm talking about, but her grandbabies do, and that's incredible to her.
oh that's fun lmao, when minecraft & that update's existed for more than your whole life, and yknow being that young and like Next Year fr is this huge time scale away, a couple of years is a quarter of your life thus far and like maybe nigh half of the part of your life you actually have longterm memories for....i was checking out this dev's blog's archives about a:tdd's release in 2010 & in one entry they compared the implicitly Roughly concurrent release of Minecraft and i was like hey whoah. forever primarily being a game i've Heard Of more than any more direct exposure so i had no precise sense of [before minecraft release] [after minecraft release] Year 0 there but it's like for sure back in thee day when minecraft was a new thing, huh

mwah mwah mwah mwah mwah I just found your VN and it's so cute and arresting and so full of nonbinary longing I'm absolutely in love already and it's kinda inspiring me to do the scary job of opening up a word doc and try writing some of my own stuff for the first time ever
also wrt aster i love love love love love the idea of being freed from agab. just... can't remember. who cares. no longer having to measure up to a gender metric or constantly minimizing your male shoulders or female hips and worrying about your ratios or presentation - and just relax and enjoy it instead of treating it like a constant chore of maintaining a dozen spinning plates to avoid being "found out". freed from presentation pressure. mwah.
also also as a fellow web developer I'd love to hear more about your stack for ssg - gatsby? svelte? vite? 93 nested imported html docs? one really really big div? I ask because while I don't know if I'll ever have the chops for music production, reading and discovering that inline music player absolutely tickled me, both narratively and as a developer, what a delight, so so so good
My âstackâ ... hmmm. âStackâ .................
So, for the main website I just used âLektorâ, which I picked out of a hat on the basis that it was python-based and could do the one thing I cared about (HTML templating). But the CURSE/KISS/CUTE reader is coded from scratch. It is a single-page app, and it loads and displays story content by grabbing the HTML from a JSON file I call the âstory fileâ. The JSON in turn is created by a parser that I wrote in python that parses a specially-formatted markdown file which I also confusingly call the âstory fileâ. The script format for this latter file is slightly custom but is mostly just ânormal markdown but I repurposed code ticks as a macro formatâ:
The music player is pretty rudimentary and just offloads all the complicated business to howler.js.
Itâs a funny patchworked leaning tower of python but it gets it done and gets it done entirely client-side and that means I donât have to dip even one of my toes into the haunted pool of server-side web development =w=

itâs not inherently mischaracterization to write hms gore what matters is the way you do it. gore is a tool that can be amazing or horrible just like any other depending on the execution. pun. gore is not necessarily more shallow than anything else. no one is going around saying âstop writing fluff thatâs shallow and only meant to make you feel goodâ, so why does this apply to gore? if this sounds either biased or targeted, thatâs because it is :)
less briefly:
yes, gore can stem from Nothing, or mischaracterization. it can also stem from traits that the character has.
sure maybe âsoul STABS MIND 3000 TIMES IN THE CHEST because ???? uh why notâ is a bad usage of gore, but consider âsoul stabs mind to punish him for doing something minor (because he is desperate for heart and mind to stop their fights at all costs, and feels as if he has no power, and feels as if the only way to gain power is by making them afraid of him)â.
maybe this doesnât fit with your specific idea of soul, but there is still character depth there.
<SIDE TANGENT>
what mischaracterization even MEANS is dependent on person to person, because, you know, PEOPLE GET DIFFERENT THINGS FROM THIS ALBUM, and they INTERPRET THE CHARACTERS DIFFERENTLY. additionally, what seems like âmischaracterizationâ can just be what the author thinks they would react like when placed into a situation, which can be incredibly different from how they usually act! for example, both of my aus are based on how i think the characters would react whenever placed into situation x
(with maybe their characters tweaked a little, which is fine sometimes as long as you arenât going to claim itâs canon. itâs fine to have headcanons. itâs fine to have different versions of hms(w) that arenât specifically au. and people who are mad about it - which is a group that may include me, sometimes, i am aware - can be mad! and that doesnât mean youâre wrong and that doesnât mean you have to get out the ukelele and be like iâm sorry for having fun with the characters (when you Should be having fun with the characters and if you arenât then maybe. stop?))
and in my aus they are incredibly different from canon hms! which isnât a bad thing, it is the point!
anyway you arenât morally bad for talking about the characters without cited sources. (the annoying part is whenever you act like you /are/ being objectively correct, and right about everything, whenever youâre clearly Doing Shit To Them (also sometimes maybe consider making an oc and whether that would be more fun than saying itâs hms. however you arenât. morally corrupt. for not making an oc. itâs fine))
(again please donât say people are morally corrupt for being wrong about the characters. they arenât. itâs annoying but itâs not bad morally, and they donât need to get hosed down for it. Itâs Fine)
</SIDE TANGENT> (yes i can reclaim the html angle brackets because i know html /joke)
again, compare âheart and mind snuggle and donât argue ever because ???? why notâ and âheart and mind snuggle and donât argue ever because theyâve resolved their conflict, and donât feel like they need to anymoreâ (an attempt to keep the level of fluff while adding a reason- though i admit iâm not good at writing pure fluff), or âheart and mind snuggle and donât argue ever because theyâre tired of the pain and want just one moment of peaceâ (something more similar to what i write that keeps bittersweetness/tension there).
if reasonless gore is bad, why isnât reasonless fluff bad? if reasonless gore is âimmatureâ, then isnât is reasonless fluff also âimmatureâ?
sure, maybe one is less shocking or more to your tastes than the other: itâs fine to have preferences. what i donât agree with is saying one is horrible and the other isnât.
my opinion is that we should stop saying anything that one writes is morally bad: and if you want to anyway, just keep the complaining (because thatâs what this is) to friends you complain with, or discord servers meant for complaining, or complain on your own blog without maintagging it, rather than trying to set these rules of what one should and should not write upon the entire fanbase.
thank you (i bow and leave the stage) (ALSO STOP ACTING LIKE ITâS NOVEL TO THINK THAT HEART ISNâT AN UWU BABY OR MIND ISNâT A DEMON IN FRONT OF THE ENTIRE FANBASE WEâVE BEEN OVER THIS. WE WERE GOING OVER THIS LAST YEAR. I AM SO TIRED OF PEOPLE MAKING THESE POSTS AND EVERYONE CONGRATULATING THEM OVER IT AS IF ITâS DESERVING OF THE NOBEL PRIZE)
#cccc#chonny jash#chonnys charming chaos compendium#twig.txt#brainrot.exe#god i am so fucking tired of this fucking fandom#gore is based and real actually! iâm sorry! iâm soooo fucking sorry! but it is! for real!#/silly so donât put me in the fuckign. shredder i said this was biased#oh also#pinned cycle

mwdh fauxpedia update: i found html for a tvtropes style page???
so now i can slap all the tropes i know are in secretly lmaoo >:3
also if u wanna make one its fun :3 mine is offline since it's meant to document literally all my notes lmao, i use VScode to edit the pages and then just save it and they run in my browser, you can even run them on an android if you download the folder with all your assets and use Simple HTML Server to run it.
i haven't found a good host for a private site yet lmao but u could always put the codes in like a neocities or something if u dont care about a rando or two finding it and wanna share w friends
this site has a template for both a tropes and media style wiki page i didn't use the wiki page. the wiki code i used was this one. both of them are pretty mobile friendly, i had to do extra fiddling to get stuff like my galleries and tabs to work and to get some of the fancier tables i added in to become mobile friendly lol but everything else worked right out fo the box all you'd need to do is customize them P:
#Are you telling me Char broiled this burger?#ppl who wanna put one on like toyhouse for their ocs have it easier since theres a lot of wiki style codes floating around there#and theyre all build w toyhouse in mind instead of a blank slate#i cant use those codes lol they break outside of toyhouse but i saw a lot of them

Housing has gotten so ridiculous that a small shipping container/shed is now a townhouse.

And, b/c this one is in Sacramento, CA the same one is $4,500 more: "2023 Tiny House, Tiny Home, Office, Casita etc. Brand New, Never Used. We Purchased this For our Pond Setting and Changed Plans. Cute Little Factory Built Tiny House. Steel Construction with Insulation. Portable and Easy to Transport. Measurements are 12âX7âX8â. Living area with Sofa-Bed Combo, Desk-Table, Sink Cabinet, Faucet, Mirror, Microwave, Bathroom with Toilet and Shower. Overhead Lighting and 110 Power Receptacles. So, you've got your cot/bedroom in the corner, kitchen cabinetry w/microwave next to it, and bathroom/kitchen sink.
Corner kitchen table and seating. This isn't even remotely appealing and the sad cheap furnishings come with it.
Thank goodness they made a separate space for the toilet and shower.
It has to be moved to your own property with water and electrical hookups, plus a sewer.

Pls tell us about Eli Vantoâs tumblr too!!
That man has the worldâs most normal but neat tumblr blog like genuinely. Incredibly normal (but neat) tumblr user. Heâs literally just a guy. His blog is almost exclusively him shitposting and vagueposting about coworkers (or schoolmates). Probably reblogs cargo shipping drama and has a mutual circle of friends from back home. Shittalks cargo companies on main. Hates on pirate crews on main (he gets some hate for it bc some people are like âwould you rather the Empire exploit every resource ever? Those pirates are literally redistributing the wealthâ to which he always responds with âI donât like when people doing their job die, thanks đâ) Oh and his blog layout? Fantastical. That boy is a numbers kid heâs good at html I feel it in my soul. His tagging system? Fucking IMMACULATE. Heâs the number one organizer. Easy to navigate. Beautifully categorized. Never forgets to tag a post in its catagory.
Definitely has a post like âIf Iâm stuck w this blue guy again I stgâ from when he was in the academy. Actually he probably has a Thrawn tag to organize all his posts about him. Ranging from âCHISS ARE REAL.â To âGuys what the fuck I just met the emperor and the Chiss guy didnât even FLINCH.â To âGuys this blue guy is actually chill as fuckâ to âWonât be able to sign on for a while. See yâall when I can.â
His mutuals sometimes post like âGuys do we even know what happened to LongHaul-StatsStar. Like is he ok?? Does anyone know where he is???â And will now and then be like âWow one year since he dipped :( hope heâs okâ while Eli is in the CA
Oh and ofc heâs mutuals w Thrawn. He probably showed Thrawn the website to begin with

"I'll be right here with you"
[Her tail wagged softly]
"I'll see you there. If you need more time, that's okay too. But, I think you'll just keep working yourself up. It's going to be okay. They love you, I'm positive they still will."
[He lifted one hand to give her a quick wave and a smile, before a new notification popped up that said there had now been a file transfer in place. There was just a small flicker over Sam's form, before it was gone.]
[When Sam had next awoke, he found himself in a place unfamiliar to him. It was a new desktop he noted, a more plain backdrop than Pump's probably customized one.. He looked around, a little confused. He had expected that he would be going back to the web world...?]
[He flinches, hearing a voice peep up.]
"A-Ah! Good..! It... It worked. Without a hitch too..."
[Sonny Chamberlain looked over the figure, eying the small serrated teeth poking from the inside of his mouth, and the tears in the lips.. Not a perfect reparation, but its so... Impressive that she had worked so quickly. He had expected to take weeks to get him to even this state.]
[Sam however saw the man, much bigger than him, on the screen. He shrunk away a bit, finding the figure a bit... frightening.]
"Oh..? Oh no, No.. It..- It's quite alright...! I... I'm Sonny.. I take it Pump must have told you a bit about everything..?"
[He took another glance around, steeling himself.]
"Uh... Yy...yeah..."
[Sonny was the one to flinch now.]
"W...What is that? Wh...Why do you sound like that...? Ohh... Hmm.. I see...- Original voice wasn't recoverable yet..?"
[He nodded, chuckling a little bit- He hadn't expected to give the big guy such a spook just by talking.]
"Luckily we have a couple backups in the main server system... Do... Do you want your old voice back? It's up to you really.."
"Uhhm... Yeah, I think so..? This one still needs some getting used to and all... Better than what it was before though.."
[Sonny nodded, pulling up a quick terminal to look into his key files..]
"She did a real nice job here, I'll say... I'm... Incredibly impressed..."
[Sam put a hand up to his mouth, feeling a slight change in his throat as Sonny put in the back up audio files..]
"Give it a go for me now..?"
"Uhh... Hiii.. testingg...- Oh yeah, that's... That's more like it."
[Sonny gave a sigh of relief- Glad it didn't need any more tuning to fit right again. These were some old files afterall..]
"Uhhh... Thanks, uh.. Doc... I have a question though..? Where... Where's the webworld..? I thought that's where my friends were..?"
"Hmm..? Oh, oh dear no, The web world needs some repairs as well right now. the old one used to run on a program called "Flash" and it seems sometime in the last few years it's become no longer supported anymore. I need to re code it into HTML or some other type. In the meantime, your friends are in a unity instance with a few of the other users."
"Uni...ty... flash... Htm- Wuh..?"
".... There is another program on the computer that you can stay at while I fix the old one." "Ahhh! Hahah, man, why didn't you say it like that the first time?"
"...Indeed, why didn't I..? I... I will port you over shortly, just give me one moment.."

it's fascinating to me how there can be huge difference of experience even within a generation. Like I'm a millennial and i was definitely a tech/nerd kid with pretty much unfettered access to the early internet (my dad was really into tech kind of early so maybe that makes me a little bit of an anomaly but my partner's parents definitely weren't tech people and he had a similar experience). So it was interesting to listen to this podcast about enya and have other millennials say things like "oh it was the 90s so we couldn't download music yet". and i'm sitting here like, "maybe for you, but i was sitting tidy on my absolute HOARD of midi files" (most of which were enya or clannad songs tbqh like i remember "lothlorien" and "bard dance" being absolute gets) . Like what else would you have as the background music in your geocities page?!? also sometimes i'd just sit around and listen to them, tinny sound quality be damned, i was a happy little dragon*. we were all so proud of ourselves when we figured out how to embed those midi players so you couldn't see them when you loaded into the page (which could be a little bit of a curse if you chose your bg music poorly so it got annoying on loop and it could not be actively stopped by the end user) . i'm sure part of it is privilege/access (my homelife kinda sucked but my parents did give me pretty free access to tech things so i was able to escape into fantasy worlds) and the ability to connect to the internet for sure- that podcast has an irish host so their experience is probably a little different from mine in the US but still. it's interesting to hear from i guess? more mainstream millennials who apparently weren't trying to get their grubby little hands on every bit of code to improve their dragons of pern/petz fanpage so they could be one of the "cool" kids...
as a further aside, sentimental garbage is generally pretty enjoyable and i rec it (the host has the most infectious laugh i've ever heard, i think i might like it partially just for her cackle) but i really disagree with the guest in the enya episode's that enya is only music to fall asleep to (i definitely spent many hours drawing to it). I also appreciate that enya just used her money to be elusive and buy a castle w/her cats , like wish more successful artists would do this instead of being public shitheads on social media/etc, like ideally they'd not be shitty humans and do good with their fame but the neutral quiet enya option is always open to you.
*tbh i think the early days of the internet were kind of formative to my habits, like i absolutely love assembling a library of cool things and the early internet was very much like that where you'd need to assemble a bunch of resources to piece together your cool geocities page (and later your own website that you'd hand coded in html. and there was a whole aspect to creating a library of knowledge you learned from other users like css/javascript to get a cool looking cursor or a cool fire effect. Which I realize seems cringe-y now but was the hotness at the time lol). the evolution of the geocities fan ring pages was livejournal and it was the same sort of things but with better music quality files, etc (tho there was a less of a drive towards displaying your individuality as a person with how your page looked since it was more like tumblr where a lot of the backend was done alread) . i'm still like this with fonts and brushes. def miss the sense of community those sites gave me tho (you get a bit here on tumblr still but it's def not the same intensity)
#text post#personal#musings#millennial experience#enya#sentimental garbage#clannad#geocities#the old internet#i was so deep into the petz and creatures fandoms#also dragons of pern was big#like there were those collectible pet sprites and irl plush makers making the coolest things#it was very ren faire-ish in vibes?#yes i like bardcore now why do you ask#q

German media loves writing about P
https://www.sportschau.de/fussball/frauen-nationalmannschaft/gegner-daenemark-im-fokus-100.html
Pernille Harder and her special drive
There was a lot of recognition when Britta Carlson spoke about the first task in the newly created Nations League for the German footballers. The fact that the DFB women first face Denmark (Friday at 6 p.m./live on ARD and in the Sportschau live stream ) is a ânice challenge ,â said the interim head coach.ByÂ
Frank Hellmann
" Denmark is a top opponent: a robust, defensively strong team, but also with qualities on the offensive." And "Pernille Harder certainly stands out as a top player. "
From her many years as an assistant at VfL Wolfsburg, Carlson of course knows best what Harder in particular embodies on a good day: world class. The star striker, who has been under contract with FC Bayern since this summer, claims the ball just as smoothly and elegantly. Hardly anyone in the penalty area has such instinct and such precise finishing.
The special connection to the venue Viborg
The fact that this international match is taking place in Viborg reminds the 30-year-old of her beginnings as a footballer; for her this is now a special home game: the Danish captain comes from the small Danish town of Ikast. At the age of ten, Pernille Harder came to the Midtjylland Youth Academy with her sister Louise - as the only two girls. "My sister was invited, and basically I wanted to do it because my sister did it. I've always looked up to her."
It soon became clear that she had even more talent. She played for Team Viborg for three years before moving to IK Skovbakken in 2010 at the age of 17. Two years later she went to the Swedish club Linköpings FC, where she was already scoring goals on the assembly line. At the end of 2016 she moved to VfL Wolfsburg because the current women's football director, Ralf Kellermann, had been following her career for a long time.
Pernille Harder: To England as Germany's Footballer of the Year
The commitment was worth it, because with Harder the factory club won the double four times in a row, only narrowly failing in the Champions League final twice before Harder moved to Chelsea as Germany's female footballer of the year three years ago. Until then, she had made the difference for the âshe-wolvesâ often enough.
"Even when she's at less than 100 percent, you feel her presence. When you need that one moment to make the difference, she's the player to do it, no matter what condition she's in," said her former coach Stephan Lerch , who now trains TSG Hoffenheim.
The Dane was also held in high esteem in England, as Chelsea's charismatic team boss Emma Hayes revealed, who greatly regretted her departure to Munich: "She is one of the most eccentric characters I have ever coached. I will miss her eccentricity, no question, hers Attention to detail, their thirst for victories. "
At the World Cup, Denmark lost to Australia in the round of 16
This only became visible again at the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. Denmark had prevailed in the group with England, China and Haiti when they entered the atmospheric round of 16 against hosts Australia in the huge Australia Stadium in Sydney. In the end, after the deserved 2-0 defeat, no one seemed as disappointed as the Danish captain, who embarrassed the âMatildasâ several times in the early stages.
But at some point it seemed as if Harder was fighting against elimination on his own. Their disappointment was palpable, but superstar Sam Kerr, with whom Harder had played at Chelsea, provided consolation. Her move to Munich together with her partner Magdalena Eriksson had already been confirmed since last year. An exclamation mark also for the women's Bundesliga, which is struggling for international attention.
Bayern's sports director Bianca Rech tried early on to get the two top players Harder and Eriksson free of charge. The fact that the coup worked reveals a lot about the international ambitions on the Bayern campus. âThese are two experienced personalities who help us a lot â on and off the pitch ,â praises Rech.
Whoever takes the Danish striker out of the game has gained a lot
Harder certainly brings with it a higher level of recognition and perhaps also a greater glamor factor. She is a big personality in Denmark, whose greatest success in the national team was certainly reaching the 2017 European Championship final against the Netherlands. Although the atmospheric final in Enschede was lost 4-2 against the âOranje Leuwinnenâ, who were then coached by Sarina Wiegman, the Danes had at least won 2-1 against Germany in the quarter-finals on the way there. Harder scored her 50th international goal in the tournament. It goes without saying that she has long been Denmark's record goalscorer, with 71 goals after 145 international matches.
And yet she often has to fight for support in the national team, where the Swede AndrĂ©e Jeglertz took over from Lars SĂžndergaard after the World Cup. Whoever takes Harder out of the game has already gained a lot. The DFB women turned the tables again in the first group game at the European Championships in England, and Germany carried the momentum from the 4-0 win against the team with no chance around the attacker who was withdrawn throughout the tournament. Carlson now expects a game on equal terms. Or as the 45-year-old said: âA nice challenge.â

anyway wrt 'other projects i am thinking of working on' here is a kind of enormous worldbuilding document about Setting Stuff
sorry for some of the formatting; the tumblr editor seems to be literally incapable of handling paragraphs inside of lists, whether that be in markdown or in actual html; you have to go to rich-text and then manually fiddle with stuff. this is also the only way to add a readmore now, i think?? god why is the tumblr editor so bad. i should just post this on my dreamwidth tbh
so it's a desert planet overall, inspired in some mix of... dark sun's athas, kenshi, morrowind, trigun, gears of war, westerns generally, etc. there's a big crater at one pole (at least one pole) that's a water ocean; it's called the sea of fog b/c the actual ocean is hidden beneath hundreds of meters of local cloud cover. there's an equatorial acid sea & the overall landmass is more-or-less divided into northern and southern halves. there's probably an isthmus somewhere that connects the two but it's kind of out of the scope of my current worldbuilding.
mostly my current worldbuilding has focused on one specific region that i'll say is 'roughly the size of russia'. the 'great desert' (tho as you can tell from the planet description, it's mostly desert all over). loosely: bounded at the north when the desert turns into steppe and corn fiefdoms start to dominate around the polar ocean; bounded at the south by the acid sea; bounded at the west by a huge mountain range; bounded at the east by... less discrete geographical features, but eventually there's perpetual sandstorms and huge unstable fissures that are difficult to pass.
(yopa, in the new hive, is in some variant of this setting. as you might recall, they're down south a few days travel from the acid sea. that's the southern border of the world map! arguably i should have had 'acid rain' as a weather type instead of 'sandstorms', but w/e there's plenty of other things i'd tweak now if i could. weird how i say going north leads to a lowland instead of a highland. that would be below sea level!!)
also there's likely gonna be some level of procgen integration for any game i make with this setting, & so i'm not really 100% on whether this is gonna be a template to build off of, in terms of 'these are the kinds of organizations and cultures you'll see emerge' vs. a specific idea in a specific world. it depends on how good i get at world history simulation, really.
a few notes on the various peoples that inhabit the great desert:
the corn kingdoms of the north. on rolling prairie/steppe with occasional rocky obstructions erupting through. very scattered trees, w/ more cultivated around villages. corn (or a corn-like grain, you know how it is with fantasy worldbuilding) is their staple crop, and pretty much every little village has their own heirloom variety. corn patterning is a highly political subject. every time some new attempted-ruler tries to unify the disparate fiefs and villages the big visible symbol of that is them growing their preferred kind of corn. food tithes only desiring the proper kind of grain or demanding more if it's 'unsuitable varieties', that kind of thing. one of the major strains is a bitter, rich cyan color that needs heavy nixtamalization to be particularly edible & only grows well in the regions immediately ringing the sea of fog; outside it grows pale and reedy from nutrient deficiency. meanwhile another one is a sweeter, mealier red variety that grows well in southern desert soils. i have a whole document on corn varieties and the political implications of growing each one. this is very much inspired by like... japan pre-unification, warring clans kinda situation. they probably have a higher % urbanization than most of the other peoples on this list b/c they actually do food importing i wrote a bunch of stuff on them and only later realized that even if the planet overall is hotter & so they're only just approaching temperate regions at the poles, they're still at the poles so presumably they have like 18 hour nights at winter or w/e. i don't know how that's gonna work out as a farming society. i might have to do some math about axial inclination and revise this section some. occupation-wise: lots of farmers. lots of lawless roving bandits from released conscripts after one clan or another had a military offensive collapse. that kind of thing.
the nomadic tribes of the great desert. there are a bunch of them (12? 13?) but i only came up with names of some of them major tribes. each tribe has a specific variety of weird mask that they wear as face coverings b/c of cultural beliefs about not showing yr face to those outside yr immediate family. the ash tribe wear masks of pitted volcanic rock that are just like, weird rocks. the masks are like a 'public face' in the same style as having a public name vs. a private name, & they consider everybody else to be weird uncivilized faceless demons each clan is made up of several smaller tribes, & they loosely confederate with each other as needed. the clan names get translated into other languages as things like "ash" or "vulture" or "fire-eater", but in their own language there's a chunk more nuance that's not really translated well. each one is associated with a loose constellation of concepts & there's probably some kinda inflectional state that refers to ones own subtribe or family lineage within the larger clan that tends to get removed in translation. anyway they travel along routes in the desert between various oases & are generally considered to be bandits or evil spirits by many of the other peoples who try to inhabit the great desert. there's a lot of king of dragon pass style "it's just friendly social behavior to sometimes raid a nearby camp and steal their goats" activities going on. sure, you don't want to murder the people you're raiding but sometimes they get a cracked head and that's just the cost of having sociable relations. this is how they figure out their relative ordering of power among themselves, but this behavior is not well regarded by the settled villages that get raided. they're just evil bandits who steal their stuff. occupation-wise, i have these put down as producing an awful lot of witches. witches, poets, warriors/raiders, artists. presumably also animal caretakers and scouts/foragers/rangers, too
very far south, along the edges of the acid sea, there are stilt-villages of fisherfolk who catch the weird things that live in the acid shoals. they build from some kinda tree-like acid vegetation and they have to cover everything they build in thick layers of resin pitch to make it acidproof. lots of waxed leather raincapes. pretty much everybody has pitted acid scars all over regardless. there are probably some villages out on islands in the acid sea that are totally disconnected from everywhere else save for like, shingle-bottomed resin boat travel over the acid sea. these are the only peoples who might plausibly have traveled to the other continent. if we're assuming the world used to be more watery & then the oceans sublimated away leaving behind mostly acid, these people would be living on what was formerly the abyssal plain. but maybe that's not what happened!
there's some striped canyons somewhere with big cities carved into the walls & bridges made between them. not a lot of notes on these people aside from lots of artists and bards
there are also the big mesa-temples. big mesa. hollow it out! temple complex at the top. big warren cave-city. they worship families of great beasts they consider to be divine messengers. brulvundojn is from here! it's not great. they're very eugenics-y in their attempts to breed humans into a great beast lineage. generally it doesn't take. when i was rereading the ancient nanowrimo novel that brulvundojn is actually from, i was like "oh noktigo is great" so i guess in this continuity he would be one of the rare true chimeras to come out of the breeding program, & his response was to immediately get the fuck out of there. i'm not sure if brulvundojn is 'from there' in the sense of being some offshoot of a royal lineage, or if he's from there more broadly as in he was once a peer to one of the lineages that got fixated on breeding themselves out into the world & he got out before anybody started worshipping him. the thing with the great beasts is that they are less, like, physical animals that are big and weird, and more like a physical embedding of a physical rule or structure. well, 'the new hive' is an extremely low-fantasy take on things so nobody in that really has magical powers. but in general. brulvundojn embodies the principle that those who trespass boundaries are doomed to death for their violation of the natural order & he doesn't really like being that very much. usually when a great beast breeds w/ a human you just get like, a human with some claws. whatever. sometimes you get another great beast, who is less a separate individual and more a different facet of the great beast's concept. a true chimera who has some of the conceptual nature is very rare. they're also very dangerous b/c great beasts are kind of circumscribed in their capacity for free action by the strictures of their concept, & chimera don't have that. they just have spooky powers and the capacity to do whatever they want with them. anyway some of the older lineages of great beasts are no longer living in a mesa-temple with their families so much as they are unweaving the conceptual boundaries of reality and reweaving it into something more aligned with their conceptual judgment. you can think of it as a pocket dimension if you like. or like the oblivion dimensions in the elder scrolls.
the walled oasis cities! they're also in the middle of the great desert, maybe a little on the northwestern-ish expanse. these are the most dark sun aspect of the setting really. ancient mages, maybe responsible for the ruin of the world, decide to set up a civilization to serve them. the big capital city-states all have the mage's domain (big tower, w/e) at the center, & the entire industry exists essentially to serve them. over time they've allowed lesser mage families to spring up (they need somebody to do the weak magic, after all) and those sometimes establish smaller cities with their own mage towers at the center. most of the original mages have retired from public position as official dictatorial mage-emperor for life, b/c they're perfectly capable of keeping the society tuned to their needs without also having to do any of the actual work of running it. meanwhile, all the citizens in the cities are like "wow we sure are lucky to be born in the only true, free society!!" while they are busy having their labor exploited and having their unions crushed by mage-knights and dying young of poverty and sickness. i feel like it's a little too on-the-nose tbh. architecturally they're very persian-influenced oh yeah so a few centuries ago a mage constructed some helper workers in the form of chesspiece/chaturaji golems. pawns to do simple menial labors, and then rooks/boats for building, knights for scouting, elephants/bishops for simple magic and the management of other golems, and then finally royals to create new golem pieces. then the royal pieces killed him because he was the last remaining inefficiency in the perfect automated world he had built for himself. that's how the cautionary fable goes, at least; maybe their true motives were different. anyway now there's a whole subspecies of chesspiece golems & i have a big gay romance outlined between a black knight & his childhood friend. they lived in some outlying mage-compound that ended up collapsing & most of the servants escaped and became outlaws. theyre gay fantasy cowboys.
there was at one point an empire of the frozen phoenix, though its lands have receded extensively & its former lands are mostly a few handful of former-peasant tribes picking out a rough existence in the ruins of former cities. only a handful of their cities remain, with more splintering off into rebellion each day. in the remixed version of 'the new hive' the defecting soldiers will probably come from here, which is maybe a problem b/c in my docs i only really have about one line about them, like: 'phoenix empire: former empire, decayed/decaying.'
one of the eastern borders is a land of unstable ground where fissures that ooze blood and rotting meat break open. sometimes acid springs seep fumes down into raw meat and send up charred fumes. there are small, scattered villages of rot-fishers, who live on the edge of the more stable fissures and fish up chunks of meat. they're pale and red-eyed and frequently have bizarre bloated deformities. a lot of people consider them to be harbingers of plague and pestilence. sometimes instead of growing old they metamorph into sinewy flesh monsters with intense psychic powers. i'm sure it's fine.
another one of the eastern borders is a land of perpetual sandstorm, kept going by spells from an order of witches, to hide away their lands from outsiders. how mysterious. wonder what they're up to.
there are moon-rabbits who say they came from the black moon. they live in warrens in the hulls of ancient machines that are strewn across the wasteland, and almost never leave. they're very nervous and conflict-averse. they have a prophecy about the end of the world they've read in the movements of the planets. there's a splinter race of jackalopes who are bigger and much more likely to travel outside. also, they have horns. occupations: engineers, glassblowers, astronomers, artificers.
the northern foothills of the western mountains are sparsely covered with vegetation and sometimes broken up into karst mesas, and clinging to the tops of some of them are the remnants of old forests. they're inhabited by remnants of some druidic order, mostly goatmen and humans, and they mostly stay to themselves and aggressively attack any outsiders
the western mountains proper are the eastern edge of some vast and sprawling orc / ogre empire. there are small outposts on the mountains themselves, and vast machine-cities on the far foothills over the main mountain ridge. the springs on the western side of the range seep black oil instead of water, & there's a sea of ichorous oil even further west, beyond the mountains
there's some cenote-cities along the mountains too, probably in the southwest expanse as it peters out for the descent down to the plains of the acid sea. natural cenotes of lightly brackish, highly mineral water have been expanded and cultivated into tiered cenote-cities, mostly inhabited by reptile-people. maybe a bridge to the underground. like the underground with the gheist in it?? we'll see how things shake out
these get shorter and shorter as i go further b/c i want to be closer to the end of this post. i haven't even touched on whatever astau is. anyway.
broadly speaking this is a world where the vast majority of it is rocky, dusty inhospitable wasteland, with scarce outposts of habitable land. travel between the regions is uncommon, though it does happen, and large-scale travel, like with an army, is pretty much unheard of due to the lack of supplies. it all comes back to logistics.
anyway this is the setting/project that a lot of the things i've been talking about over the past few, uh, years have been about? or at least circling around. guess why i was trying to work out medieval crop yields in the first place. i want some numbers here for population and arable land!!

IM SO HAPPY YOURE DOING BETTER!!! Iâve always been rotting for you from far away, and Iâm so glad to see it happenâŠI hope our interactions contributed to that nice state of yours :} good luck with all of that! I also canât grasp how youâre going to college nglâŠI wonât go to uni for another four years even if Iâm your age because of the school system here and stuff so itâs just so interesting to me!
(Here in Italy you go to uni at 19/20, strangely)
I checked out your website and it looks sweet,,,Iâm not very info informatics and computer-y stuff anymore but i was super obsessed with that stuff in the past! I hope youâre able to finish it <3 to me itâs like making a carrd so I canât fathom how difficult it would be, but it feels very old internet-y and silly for now! Good luck, really.
Iâm also really happy youâre with your family more! Itâs so nice to feel connected to themâŠthereâs a self fulfilling feeling that comes to me whenever I manage to be with my family, myself.
This update is so good to hear and it really brings a smile to my face, thank you for always taking the time to answer me and create this little connection :}

ooo thats rlly interesting !!! im probably gonna skip a year before going to college anyways, since i need time to get a job so im not in Too much debt .. so ill probably be 19 when going into college myself !! i just need 2 power thru this year ... then i'll be off !! the goal rn is to major in computer science and minor in japanese :] since i wanna make games for a living and well. japanese is such an interesting language and while it wldnt be as useful career wise as like spanish or smthn i dont want 2 only make life decisions based on career viability ... i wanna have fun !!
and they really have, it's always nice talking w/ u guys !! it means a lot that uve been rooting fr me, truly :]
hehe thank u thank u ... i hope so too !!! im working on moving away from the template i started with, it's a lot of work figuring it all out but im having a blast, coding is a pain in the ass but once u get the hang of it its so cool seeing what uve been working on coming together all nicely :D html is generally an easier language to learn than something like javascript or python, since it's much more immediately readable. it has a lot less potential than those two, but it doesnt necessarily need to be the most complex thing in the world! u can still get a lot out of it, and most things tht i dont understand immediately i can usually infer what theyre Supposed 2 do and tht makes it a lot easier. much less math too LMAOAOAOA
and of course, even if i don't reply right away i always want to reply to you, it's lovely being able to have a connection like this :] i hope you're doing well !!
#... servant's song âȘ#... inbox âȘ#𧶠. anon#i have 2 go feed the kittens really quick they r acting like ive starved them by getting distracted LOLOL

yuletide anon here! thanks for the advice, I've been flailing a bit with the sheer volume & variance of 'how to do yuletide' posts. a more specific query: do you recommend writing a letter vs. just keeping everything to optional details? the big 'advice on prompts' post claims that vague prompts are better, but the letters from this year so far (kudos to all on getting them up so fast) are a nightmare of ambiguity for me personally, but I don't want to step on any toes w/too much specificity.
--
If you want to write like... 200 words max, you can just use the optional details.
My letter is already thousands of words, though shorter than most years, and that level of detail just makes one's eyes glaze over if it's in the signup form.
A letter can also be posted somewhere that respects more html formatting. If you want to have a bunch of sections or embed graphics or explain where to consume your canon or anything else that takes lots of space and possibly better formatting than the AO3 signup form, a letter is superior.
People also post letters before the requests are revealed, so some treaters default to looking at letters to find people to treat.
(But if you're hoping for treats, you do want some level of interesting hook in your actual signup because people do look through the requests on AO3.)
--
Taste in prompts varies so much that people have opposite opinions. You will never make everyone happy.
I hate vague-ass prompts. Fuck that advice. Though anything's better than "Just write me anything! :D :D" which guarantees I'll phone in 1k and then write my real fic for someone else.
I love ultra detailed prompts that are nearly an outline... but only if they match my pre-existing tastes. It's dangerous to only have this type of prompt, especially if you only have one for a fandom because writers tend to freeze if they don't like the prompt itself. It's a "don't think of a polar bear" situation where now all you can think of is the polar bear.
It's safest to also have a section on tropes and story elements you generally like, whether that's dubcon or casefic. This helps a writer extrapolate from a "too detailed" prompt to other things you might enjoy instead of feeling like it's that exact prompt or nothing.
Frankly, vague sucks.
Specific but open to modifications is great.
No prompts but a list of fairly specific tropes like "sex pollen" or "hanahaki" or "undercover as a couple" is good too. These are open to going in a lot of directions, but they come with specific plot ideas attached in a way that "fluff" or "angst" do not.
TBH, as long as you don't threaten suicide over not getting the story you want, you're pretty much fine though.
(I wish I were joking, but yes, this has more or less happened.)
--
You don't actually have to do anything in particular. If writing a lot of details is stressful or boring, you could leave it blank. You'll get a worse-for-you fic most likely, but you can do this. There are even weirdo writers who prefer it.
The best case scenario is to write details and/or a letter that make a potential writer understand your taste. It's really as simple as that.
And no one style of prompt or particular kind of detail will guarantee that someone understands you.
At a certain point, it's down to your writing skill in the signup/letter itself and your writer's reading comprehension.
