Not much is needed for dnd! But yeah, a set of dice, notebooks, pencil and eraser help. If you're a true newbie it's really helpful to play with people that already know what's happening, but that's not always the case, so I'd suggest really looking into the mechanics of whatever character you're playing, features, spells, actions, etc. For me, it was easier to get into understanding things with my character sheet fully printed out in front of me, but that can be overwhelming to people. When online there's usually gonna be tabs that sort the things you have, but to each their own. Speak to your dm about any questions/homebrew things/rules. I'd also suggest taking a less stressful class to play your first time because some of them have a lot of features (more complicated ones mechanically are like monks, druids, artificers, most homebrew, and honestly most of the spell casters but that's up to you)

If you're choosing to dm godspeed, but the majority of the things you'll need to know are online, like there are pdfs of most of the books as well as like online compendiums and stuff. Starting with a module will make stuff easier because it's already written out, but again, your choice

None of this is strictly required or necessary, the fun thing about dnd and other ttrpgs is that the physical starting barrier is quite low. It can be a lot to learn and get used to, but it's mostly just stuff you make up in your head! Just get a group of people who are willing to help you learn and stuff (and start on a lower level) and it'll probably be lots of fun!

:((( yeah, cr 2 is a lot... I watched it while it was airing and I started 40-50 EPs in? Like when they were coming out? I hyperfixated on it and got it all down in less than a week, but still, it was so much!

I would really recommend sticking through it though, these characters really have so much charm and play off each other so well, it really is a thing of watching a group turn into a family and really truly learn to care about one another and become better people. It was beautiful and wonderful to watch if you can manage to sink your teeth in :)
