So Tommy was a pilot in army, so I'm sure his path get crossed with Jake somewhere. They were good friends, but lost contact when Tommy became firefighter. Now years later they meet again because they are on the same parade during Pride and both with their partners. They both now see that their connection was definitely not platonic, but two closeted gay guys crushing hard,but they have no hard feelings about running from such feeling and they weren't ready. Actually they both are happy that the other one is in happy relationship and proud about himself. Jake absolutely adores Buck and likes how Buck cares about Tommy and he loves learn some cooking from Buck, and Bradley is absolutely impressed how Tommy helped with his car, making it ride like new

third of all, that dude from season two is about to help buck figure out his sexuality and is also himself a great example of a complex queer character on a prime time tv show. we've got barely anything of him but his character is so rich. his growth from his bigoted attitudes in season 2 to this man who is willing to put everything on the line for the 118, who had to face homophobia in his workplace as a queer man and obviously his own internalised homophobia, and has come out of it so confident and ready to help facilitate someone else's realisation and treat them so well.

Tiny summary: You insisted for your bestie to bring her blind and deaf brother along and Caroline finally had no other choice but to introduce you two.

This was like slap to the face for you. One day your friend told you that she can meet with you, but she has to take her blind brother to the meeting and you had nothing against it. You were excited to meet the guy! Caroline always talked about how lovely he is, how he is one of the two closest people to her heart, how their parents had enough of them both and how she had to take care of him. The very next day Caroline came to the meeting with her brother and you were not functioning.

You've never asked about his looks, you were expecting someone small and ugly, perhaps, so that's why Caroline's brother looks took you aback so badly. You registered that Caroline was introducing you two, but all you could do was look in the not seeing, blue eyes, the bush of blonde, curly hair on his head and the way he seemed to listen, holding Caroline's hand in one, gripping the stick in the other.

"Laura?" The question seemed distant to you, not really reaching you. "Laura!"

You jumped, directing your gaze at Caroline. You laughed nervously, seeing her annoyed look. "What are you gawking at?" she asked. "He's not a painting to look at!"

"S-Sorry" you apologized, blushing deeply. You couldn't help, but think of him as beautiful.

"Oh dear" Caroline sighed, you smiling like the dumb idiot that you felt like right now. "Like I was saying, that's Tommy. He was actually excited to meet you."

"Really?!" you beamed, Caroline lifted an eyebrow at that, but then she laughed.

"Yeah, really" she began to explain. "He probably can't hear or so we all think, but I have that sign language with him. We hold hands and communicate with touching. I was telling him about you and he seemed to react when I've mentioned your name. He squeezed my hand tightly."

"I see. Nice to meet you, Tommy" you said, flashing a very happy smile. You were standing in a way that the sunlight was being reflected in your glasses.

Tommy moved his head in your direction and letting go of Caroline's hand, he reached to you blindly. "Grab his hand" Caroline advice. "He's searching for you."

You did so, very slowly. Your fingers touched, you felt the heat raising on your cheeks when Tommy's lips moved the tiniest bit, as if he wanted to smile, but really couldn't. His fingers traced your hand before he entwined them together. Your cheeks were burning, Caroline was watching you two, covering her mouth to hide the fact that she was trying not to laugh. You didn't notice it back then, but it was the day you've fell in love with Tommy Walker.

You're absolutely right that story wise for now there's no reason for Buck and Tommy to break up. They for now was only on two dates(and we will not see the time skip to wedding I guess but still I believe it's several week after coffee date so we also can add some more dates+ wedding) and they are absolutely smitten with each other and want to try to know each other. Tim, Lou and if I'm not mistaken Oliver all said they want romcom and I can't see them break even at the end of the season,but I can see them taken more serious step as calling each other boyfriends. Oliver also said there's gonna be more kisses and Buck initiate some of them, so Buck definitely feels more confident in his relationship and I can see him only trying to make them deeper and more meaningful, but not "clinging" because he's scared to be alone, but because he really likes Tommy

When they didn't want someone for long, Ali for example, they barely gave us anything about the character. We literally just knew that where she works, that she was dying her hair blonde for a lot of time and that's all. About Ana, who stayed for pretty longer, we jts knew her work, that she has sister(right before break up) and that's all. Even Taylor had backstory only in 5s when I guess they tried to make Bucktaylor work.

About Tommy we already know some things from begins episodes and that's btw makes everything easier. Tim said that they chose Tommy because he was already existed in the universe, they don't need to create new person, but they made Tommy deeper. We literally had Tommy in 6 episodes (in one barely) and we already know more about him we know about Tailor who was around for 1,5 seasons. They showed us where he works, said that he was in the army(in begins it never mentioned), made his story we saw in begins deeper with saying "yeah, he was in closet.", told us about his interests like Muay Thai, cars, basketball, we know he's a movie fan like Chim (begins). We know he loves Love,actually and craft beer. They made him Eddie's new friend. Also they let Lou to share his ideas how he sees Tommy (hard unstable childhood) which I'm sure wasn't for nothing. I see them making Tommy the character on the Karen's level at least .The LI of the main character, who is regular with enough backstory to make them interesting and lovable to the audience, but no need to make them main. Also Tommy's job allows him to make appearance any time they want. And his friendship with Eddie, Chim and Hen too. So he doesn't need to be just "Buck's boyfriend". Tommy has way better treatment any gf of Buck or Eddie had and we have him as a LI for only 3 episodes. Imagine what they can do till the end of the season and during next one? Make him loveable LI who is not plot device, but also no need to make him main. And as Tommy not in 118, 911 don't even have to go through standard plot of "oh, we are working together and it's gonna be a lot of drama about it". Too old
