i am a whump creator. i've been in the whump community for a few years now. and now, i am unable to share my work with the community on here because people are mass reporting me for being a proshipper, and Tumblr keeps deleting my blogs as a result.

(if that isn't the reason why, i would be more than happy to get the explanation from @staff that i've been asking for.)

now, that is speculation on my part based on the timing of each termination (it's after i put my pinned post in the whump tags).

but here are the facts:

months ago, i became comfortable enough to share proshipping content. seeing as how every other artist would link their nsfw work on here, i thought it was acceptable for me to do the same so long as the preview image did not violate any rules.

an anon asked if i was a proshipper, and i said i didn't ascribe to that label*, but i agreed with the philosophy.

*i don't have any choice BUT to use it now because my posts get removed for describing what the content is

note that this anon asked multiple people in the whump community if they were proshippers. it was the same person each time, same copy-and-pasted responses.

i kept posting my proshipping content, all with links and extensive content warnings.

i started getting anon hate.

my account was terminated. after further reflection and rereading the terms of service AGAIN, i figured maybe links are not allowed and so i switched to DM only.

this time, the anon hate was consistent. every week was something new. every day felt like bracing myself to open my inbox. i kept anon on, since i have so many people who feel uncomfortable sending asks off anon and didn't want to take away their safe space.

months pass. i go on hiatus for all of July. i find out someone stole my old nsfw art and reposted their edited versions of it to rule34, a site that i never wanted my work to be on. this person waited until the exact starting day of my hiatus to do this.

i come back to more anon hate in my inbox.

suddenly, out of nowhere, my account is terminated again.

i make a new blog. more anon hate. another termination.

lather, rinse, repeat.

i stopped doing DM only stuff. i figured, if i just link my other platforms and only post safe things on Tumblr, there's nothing in the rules against that. everyone has links to their social media.

i still get terminated. and again, i keep getting terminated after i post my pinned post in the whump tags. which -- speculation again -- leads me and others to think that these antis are stalking the whump tags, waiting for me to show up so they can mass report me and get me terminated.

i have NO idea what they would report, aside from claiming i'm trying to "dodge being blocked". which, i'm not. in fact, i say every single time i come back that i WANT people to block me if they need to.

but regardless, it keeps happening.

i'm losing a place i considered home.

i'm being forced out of a community on here i love so dearly.

and you want to know something funny? for some strange reason, i'm unable to block my anons. yup. an 'error' message comes up. and i'm apparently unable to report them too -- like reporting the one who called me a 'tumblr tranny' and said i would 'always be a woman' for hate speech. oops, sorry. error message.

by now, i've been called evil. told to listen to my intrusive thoughts. told that i should be on a watch list. told that it's disgusting that someone's mutuals still interact with me. told that i have no place in the whump community.

i know that's not true.

i'm so sick and tired of being treated like this. i'm tired of being dehumanized. and i'm disgusted with this behavior.

at this point, i'm just screaming as many times as i can. i'll keep losing blogs, because i know my attackers will read this and just keep on reporting me. what do they have to lose? nothing. they don't have enough of a conscience to care. and why should they? clearly, i'm a monster. i'm a piece of shit. i don't deserve basic respect, and i apparently don't deserve to keep my 'platform'. to stay in my community and to keep my livelihood.

I've read through the End Racism posts (not all, but a good part of them) and think the people behind it do have good and honest intentions, and that a lot of things are being blown out of proportion. I don't necessarily agree with some of the ideas regarding out of archive harassment and AO3's responsibility, but I can see the thought process. Same with a lot of other things. I'm very wary of Stitch being cited, but can likewise understand why people may not fully clue into why there are.... so so so many issues with that. If you haven't been hyper involved in fandom (included those you're not in) you miss things. Which is a whole other issue lmao. But overall, I don't think anyone is being malicious

That being said, there's a lot that seems.... overly optimistic? Or perhaps very central to where the creators behind End Racism are from and their own biases and education. People have brought up HOW on earth what is or is not racist (beyond the incredibly obvious examples) can be decided, or how you can know who's writing a fic and why (is it a racist bigot, someone writing about their own experience as a POC, or someone who doesn't know something?) and the answer, as another anon mentioned, is never really stated. Because there isn't an answer in many cases, but that hasn't been acknowledged

I also worry about the insistence (in some responses to questions and in notes I've seen even in the asks you've received) that a diversity consultant will help as much as people seem to think. Yes, it's a step forwards.... but a diversity consultant cannot be an expert in EVERYTHING. I suppose the argument is "get more diversity consultants to volunteer" but that still causes it's own issues. I was in a server with someone who frequently read over fics as a sensitivity reader, and was extremely well educated and respectful. But even they flat out said they made a hell of a lot of mistakes once they stepped out of what they knew, and wouldn't give feedback on certain things. I worry a diversity consultant would be, well, very american centric, and while that isn't necessarily a bad thing, people have brought up how it could be, and those concerns are being completely brushed to the side.

I think there's just SO much to this, and so much more complexity than they're willing to admit. Again, other anons have brought this up, but there's a ton nuance in this. We're talking international views on majorly complex issues, with endless cultural lenses, people writing and reading from countless backgrounds, and so on. It really just feels like they don't want to even acknowledge that

I don't think most behind it are trying to actively push for censorship, or are operating in bad faith. That's my impression from reading on my own. There have been some individuals around tumblr that have been horrific about it (the anti-semitism that came out is.... something), but overall I think there are good intentions. But so many pertinent questions aren't being answered, and the very valid concerns people have brought up have been ignored.

I support the idea behind it, and having a diversity consultant on staff certainly isn't a bad idea, but the way in which they're going about things, the concerns they're ignoring, and the dismissal of people who are raising said concerns as racists is. huh. Well, it makes me wary to actively support.

I understand not wanting big corps to make their way on Tumblr. Believe me, I do. However Tumblr's advertising (or at least on mobile) is easilly skippable/you can scroll past or actually look at the ad if its somewhat interesting.

Also, Tumblr sells shoelaces for 19 dollars. That should only be like three dollars, but it shows that it really does need the money. (@indigoartistqueen mentioned that, along with other various things in this article) Such as paying programmers to create new features. Paying artists to create new logos and themes. paying the employees that check out the reports. (which I am rlly sorry for them bc I just so happen to keep finding really rude comments or things shipping an 8 year old with an 1000 year old.)

So, if tumblr got a little more money, then merch will cost less. Features will cost less. You can crab someone for less for goodness sakes. (Speaking if which, if you REALLY hate a celeb that badly, run them off with crabs.) But tumblr, just like any other site and app, NEEDS money to keep it running.

Also, don't you think SOME form of algorithm will be good? Or at least better search results? Because artists do tend to use very different tags. (Like memes, funny, lmao, lol, etc.) All that could be grouped under "Funny" so that people can actually find and search for their content easier.

Not to mention that with the way the tumblr staff are, I highly doubt they're gonna be implementing things that will cause a riot from their supporters, like the algorithm, bc the blogs ARE the algorythm, reblogging stuff they like to spread it out.

for example, reader gets sent to korea as a secret agent for a covert agency (bigger than law enforcement) that clears up any corruption in industries (in this case, the kpop industry) and she’s undercover as staff for global boy group, enhypen. while she’s staff there, her suspicious behaviour seems to catch the eyes of the boys and they all agree to keep an eye on her bc they suspect she’s a sasaeng but in reality she’s just tryna dive deeper to uncover info abt their care and any mistreatment from the company and also find leads that can lead her to the core of corruption in the company

one night, enha notice her going thru a restricted section in the company but before they can confront her, she disappears without knowing they saw her. the next day they’re treating her rlly bad bc they think she’s a sasaeng and reader gets rlly upset, she complains to her spy boss guy that she’s getting sick of this behaviour and he agrees to pull her out of the mission, before she leaves tho she leaks info abt the corruption in the company and the mistreatment of idols to the news and HYBE gets investigated by the police.

everyone in the company are talking abt who the leak was and enha suspect it was reader, they feel sorry abt the way they treated her and try to find her but realise she quit her job and they’re probs never gonna see her again.

Not to be too rude towards the anons who said these things but I feel like mod should be allowed to be fed up with certain topics and respond as such without being considered toxic and biased.

It's a drama blog and drama brings out the worst in people regardless of your opinions. I can't imagine how many topics get brought up again and again nor how annoying it must be to continuously have to tell people to take a damn hike concerning certain things.

Sometimes people get annoyed and that's fine. Don't hold these people up on a pedestal just because they post your opinions, I promise you you will eventually be disappointed no matter how good or nice these people seem.

I know some may disagree with me and maybe call me paranoid or pessimistic, but I just wanted to let you know it's okay if you're not ready.

Oh, goodness, yes, actually! Disclosing your identity online takes a lot of extraordinary bravery. It's very easy to forget in places like Tumblr, where you'll find so many posts about anti-racism and where there are many people who are open about their identities, that it's still a very public place with actual Nazis out there. Anything that can be Googled is a place that anyone can find, and it's important to be careful with your privacy.

This isn't to discourage people from using this resource, of course! It's to agree wholeheartedly that if you don't feel comfortable or safe disclosing any part of your identity, please never feel pressured to do so. Your safety is far more important than anything else.

I agree with your anon about the people getting worked up over the philza url. My biggest worry is now there is precedent for a 'celebrity' to want their url and staff to give it to them. The person who held the philza url used it as a semi-active sideblog and was not even asked to give it up; their main blog was just nuked. The precedent is now to give priority to someone because of their extra-tumblr status - what happens when someone is using a url and actively blogging to it and someone else wants that url?

Thing is that this isn't really new, because the staff given reason is that they were url hoarding, which has been against tumblrs tos for a very long time. Staff have in the past nuked blogs for doing so, it's really not new or special.

I'm going to give Tumblr the benefit of the doubt here and say they probably wouldn't have taken it if it was being used for more than url hoarding (for instance, I'm sure timedeo will be fine regardless of if the real timedeo wanted the url, because they are actively using that account). They made exactly one post, it definitely wasn't an active sideblog by any stretch of the imagination, and was just there for bragging basically.

So yeah, I highly doubt it will set that precedent. More likely staff will be investigating more url hoarding, because again it's against tos and something you're actually not allowed to actively do.

This is based (that I think is support my thoughts) from someone 's comment on YouTube that I found very interesting during movie3's hug scene months ago (hope their comment still there) about Makoto's characteristic , that's maybe he wants to end his life, to avoid hurting his friends (sounds very similar to the answer rights ? When Aigis is literally being forced to fight their friends) .Very good analysis I must say, you should take a look. ++

I think I found it! I don't think I agree with their view on what Makoto intended to do when he walked off on his own (despite being dark, I don't think the movies would intentionally be that dark - unless someone from the staff has talked about this and I missed it), but I definitely did enjoy their analysis about his psychological state, his hesitation when it comes to bonding with people, and the way Aigis helps!

Then this is mine: So both of them just go "with programs / favors their been asked to, but slowly they gains their own "reasons", as Aigis 's state in the Answer and Makoto's action in the end of movie 1. Though they really "hung up" their life to that "reasons". You can see it from movie2 Makoto really became " confused" because he wants " the moment of spending time together with his friends stay forever" same with Aigis in drama cd moonlight ( heck they're even ask each other). ++

And here's come movie 3 and the Answer , after losing the "reasons" both of them back to beginning once again, like you said in 1 of yours metas, they both want nothing else and became just empty selves once again. This is what Yukari notice in both movie and the Answer. They both running away from their bonds , want to end their own life, but they saved by someone who honestly want to saved them , ++

though in Aigis's case maybe she doesn't understand that in that moment she was saving him, but she already has that feelings that's for sure. ( Makoto by Aigis, Aigis by Metis ). Not to mention it's when they finally realized they were running away and decided they face and fight it as painful as may be. To protect, to stop for loosing their friends again. ++

Also the things that I noticed, when their feeling are hurt, they both tend to lie . (Makoto to Aigis in that lobby scene, Aigis to SEES and Metis when they asked her why she didn't want to go back to school) Now to movie 4, remember that when Aigis said that she was tired and really sleepy and SEES called her name, it reminded me of Makoto's. Also when Makoto go out with Elizabeth and they stop by in front of dorm, didn't that's remind you of Aigis and Yukari conversation in the Answers ++

I think you're absolutely right! The way I see it, Makoto and Aigis become as close as they do precisely of how similar they are. Makoto was a robotic child who became alive through his bonds with others, and Aigis was a robot who also became alive through her bonds with others, and with him in particular.

When Makoto meets Aigis, he is slowly but surely reaching the height of his development and, once he does, he reaches out to her to help her do the same, because he knows where she is coming from. He understands because their hearts are the same.

Meanwhile, Aigis gives Makoto stability and reassurance. Makoto has been alone for so long, yet Aigis steps into his life and tells him that she will never leave him alone again. That no matter what happens, he will always be her precious person. The solace this brings him is big for him.

And then, once he's gone, he makes sure to repay the favor by sending her Orpheus, because Makoto wouldn't have let Aigis promise him eternity if he didn't feel the same way. So at the end, while Aigis kept her promise of never leaving him until the end of his life, Makoto will stay with Aigis until the end of hers.

...I'm getting side-tracked, aren't I? lol In any case, you're also absolutely right when you say even their personalities are similar! Their sense of humor, for one, is one and the same. This is another thing that makes them bond as easily as they do, because they can truly enjoy each other's company and know the other gets them and loves them just the way they are.

It is fun to think about the similarities between the movies and The Answer though, I admit I hadn't thought about that! I was mostly struck by how they made Makoto's arc parallel Chidori's, when in the game it's mostly Aigis who parallels it. In a way, this serves once again to show how closely tied their two character arcs are. They are two lines forever meant to run alongside each other, so I'm fully expecting that if Atlus one day decides to retire Aigis for whatever reason, she'll find Makoto once again at the very end.

I'm not trying to defend the anon, but reading through what you shared about Irish people and discrimination, the post specifically says that Irish people experienced racism, not discrimination.

And they've also used a GIF of WOC talking about someone calling her a Paki and her telling the white man he doesn't know what it is like, but the white man says he does know because he's Irish. He really can't understand.

But I do appreciate you discussing what Irish people have been through, especially since I am an English WOC and this is something I was unaware of.

A lot of that tumblr post is from 2012, which is probably why they use the term racism, although I don’t want to speak for anyone who posted, a lot of the blogs are long gone (the copy of it in my likes is from 2013, for context!). What I will say is that under some definitions of racism, it’s “the systemic oppression of a racial group to the social, economic, and political advantage of another” (Merriam Webster, Definition 2)

The discrimination against Irish people in the UK until probably the early 90s would have counted as racism. Irish people who moved there generally lived in worse housing and didn’t have a lot of ability to mix with English people (the rise of Anglo-Irish and London-Irish centres that still exist today are vestiges of this). They generally were employed in what were considered the worst jobs - builders, domestic servants, factory workers - and it was rare for them to rise above entry level work. Domestic workers in England (and the US) were often called a “Bridget”, because employers didn’t care to learn their staffs names, Irish people were just interchangeable. And anti Irish sentiment still draws political belief. Just look at former Home Secretary, Priti Patel, saying that if Ireland didn’t support the UK with Brexit negotiations they would threaten our food supply. For a country who was complicit in An Gorta Mór, that’s disgusting to happen. It did meet the standard of racism, but as now that term is more used to mean between people of different skin colour, I didn’t want to use it here, which is why I used discrimination.

At the time Bend It Like Beckham was released, we were about five years after the Good Friday Agreement. Peace was fragile. And the white character in those gifs, Joe, is an Irish man who grew up in London. He got the slurs thrown at him too, because when he was growing up he heard it all. He was called a Paddy, and judging by his accent probably a t*ig. You still see bonfires in Northern Ireland with “kill all t*igs”, or “K.A.T” on them.

That’s what it’s about. It’s about empathising with someone and you may not know exactly what they’re going through, but you’ve been through similar and know what it’s like. It’s not meant to belittle Jess’s (the woman in them, whose full name is Jasminder) experience in the slightest, it’s supposed to let her know she’s not alone. And in context it does!

If it was released today I’d agree it’d be pretty tone deaf, but for 2002 it was spot on. I do appreciate you coming here openmindedly, and thank you for the ask.
