You know, normally I'm strongly of the opinion that everything that's needed to solve puzzles in games – even optional or post-game puzzles – should be contained within the actual gameplay, and have little tolerance for stuff that wants you to, like, scan a QR code to get a secret Discord link for clues or whatnot, but I'm giving Animal Well a pass because "office printer which, when interacted with, sends a print job to your actual, physical printer, producing an origami diagram which must be correctly folded to yield a password" is extremely funny.
I do think it's a brilliant bit of character writing to have Chilchuck be allergic to sharing anything about his personal life with his friends, including the fact that his wife left him, and then you find out that the reason his wife left him is because he never fucking tells anyone anything. And then! The second he actually does explain everything Marcille literally just tells him exactly why his wife left and gives him advice on how to apologize and potentially mend their relationship, if he wants to. Almost all of Chilchuck's problems are because he's so repressed he doesn't know how to be open and honest with the people around him and they are also solved by being open and honest with the people around him. It's like...symmetrical character writing? I guess? It's just brilliant and it's what I mean when I say a character doesn't have to be complicated to be realistic and compelling. Ryōko Kui is a fuckin' genius and I'm going to be thinking about Dungeon Meshi for the rest of my life.
At this point I'm half-expecting that the heartfelt congratulatory voice recording from the developer in Animal Well's secret secret secret ending claiming that the puzzle you just solved wasn't designed to be solvable and assuring you that there's nothing more to find is a fakeout. Bonus points if the clues required to figure out the next layer of puzzles are somehow contained in the recording.
Ngl I will not tolerate an ill word about the Dunmeshi dub after SungWon Cho poured every ounce of his skill into the latest ep, like those scenes hit hard in the manga but his delivery of Senshi's lines made me actually cry. And god the shift back to humor with Elf!Senshi was masterful I knew what voice he'd do and it was PHENOMENAL to see it in action. Literally perfect 100/10 this guy is a god of voice acting and I will die defending this dub.
