"brother," begins benedict, "i—"

"have you lost your fucking mind!" booms anthony.

"if you just let me explain—"

"have you compromised y/n?"

"what!"

"i said!  have you compromised y/n!"

"how can you even insinuate that!  of course i have not!"

"and why should i trust what you say?"

"because i am your brother!"

"precisely!  you are my brother!  you lie to me as naturally as you breathe!"

that is something, benedict admits to himself, i cannot deny.

"well!  i have no reason to lie now!" he declares aloud.

"and you expect me to believe that?  when i saw your mouth and her mouth mere breaths away from one another?"

lightning shoots throughout benedict’s body and butterflies erupt in his stomach at the memory.  the two of you were, indeed, mere breaths away from—— from—

"see," anthony interrupts, "you have nothing to say.  are you finally admitting to your guilt?"

"we were discussing my art!  that is all!"

"i am not a fool, benedict!"

"you look like one!"

"and you act like one! alone! in your bedchamber! with a lady!  our friend!  how do you think our family will react when they hear of your impropriety?"

"you make it sound as if this were some, some— devious scheme!"

anthony shakes his head.

"brother, i know you are in love with y/n—"

it would have been kinder if anthony shot him point blank in his chest.

benedict gapes at him, but his brother merely responds with an expression that makes him feel like a naive child.

"benedict, please.  your affection for y/n is deeply apparent to everyone in this house. mother, kate, our siblings, the servants, penelope.  good god, francesca, daph, and hastings even know, and they are not even here. you," anthony states simply, "are in love."

"i have not said anything of the sort!"

"so what do you mean to say? that you do not love y/n?"

benedict freezes. he feels the swell of his heart and its collapsing all in a mere breath.

of course i do.  of course i love y/n.

he swallows.

"it matters not what i feel.  it matters what she deserves."

y/n deserves someone good.  someone who will not hurt her.  someone who is not me.

anthony’s face softens, and it would be an expression that would be kind if benedict didn’t feel as though he was on the receiving end of its pity.  still, it reassures him.  anthony’s gentleness seemed to have passed when their father had.  it seemed to no longer have existed as a possibility within him; and then kate entered their lives.  whenever he sees evidence of its restoration, benedict cannot help but feel gratitude—even, as in this moment, at the cost of his own pain.

anthony sighs.

"did you two have to be in your bedchamber?"

benedict rolls his eyes.

"this is where all my art is!  but it shan't happen again."

"oh, that i will make certain."

he furrows his eyebrows.

"what is that supposed to mean?"

"did you truly think i would let you get away with this indiscretion?  you have completely disgraced y/n!"

"nothing!  happened!"

"bedchamber!  together!  ALONE!" anthony checks his pocket watch and, with its closing, resumes a dignified composure.  "i am done with this conversation.  we have kept y/n waiting long enough.  we must go to her promptly, offer our deepest apologies, and ensure that she is safe and well after this event.  we will be most fortunate, indeed, if she chooses to absolve us from your transgression."

benedict puts his hands over his face.  of all the people in the world, why did his elder brother have to be anthony bridgerton?

"the girls" I assume Lucy means her and Mina's mutual school mates, like the omitted Kate Lee?

It all sort of depends on what age gaps you headcanon and how you think they got to know one another, doesn't it? That does seem likely, but the "very first day at home" line strongly suggests they are currently at school to me, and "girls" could suggest either younger and thus students, or just be a term for a group of friends. Still, it all implies people who are at school now.

But Lucy is pretty young, so depending on how old students can be at her school and on how long Mina has been working there, there could be a chance that they might both even know some people who are still students at the school they went to together, where Mina now teaches. Or even if they aren't both Mina and Lucy's friends, Lucy might just be warning her against sharing this gossip with her students. Otherwise, those like Kate Reed, who though omitted I believe was intended to work with Mina. (She also seems to have possibly been a bit of a gossip so if Mina told her the tale might have spread further.)

so, this kind of turned into me messily jumping from one idea to the other because i couldn't stick to one theme...hope you enjoy, anyway, though!:

kate always opens the door for the people she cares about. she's a chivalrous gentleman at heart so she loves doing that,"i've got it," thing while she reaches for the door handle. it's also a protective instinct that becomes engraved in her mind once she fully commits to the superhero thing.

the SECOND she sees you shivering for whatever reason, she slips off her jacket/coat and wraps it around your shoulders. she doesn't care if you're not that cold or if you tell her she's being dramatic. she'll merely secure her jacket around you and bring you closer to her body to shield you from the chilly air.

kate's definitely the type to lie down in the middle of the living room when she's feeling tired or overwhelmed. you make her buy a nice rug to stop her from lying down on the cold ground all the time. her "brain breaks" always end up with a sleeping lucky keeping her pinned against the ground. [she loves him too much to push him off]

she loses her mind whenever you wear anything purple, especially if it's a shirt or hoodie of hers.

she's not controlling or possessive in any way but she can't deny the way her heart races when you wear the arrow-shaped necklace she bought you as a gift. she had thought it was silly, that you would make fun of her for spending far too much money on something insignificant. instead, you made her help you put it on and you've worn it every day since.

kate can't sit in chairs correctly. it doesn't matter where she is or what type of chair she's sitting in, she's going to do something weird and claim she's somehow comfortable.

she comes up with the most ridiculous nicknames for you and you can't even complain because she always looks way too proud of herself.

also, holding her hand when the two of you are walking somewhere is a must.

Let me bring up points that I've seen in arguments online:

1- "But her story is about infertility! Putting her with a woman changes everything!"

Queer women struggle with infertility too, in fact it can be very difficult for lesbians who wish to start families of their own as not everyone is able to adopt or find a sperm donor, and even if a sperm donor is found THEY CAN STILL HAVE INFERTILITY ISSUES.

Let me list off romance books that deal with cishet women and their infertility issues below-

Untamed Rose, Scandalous Mistress by Bronwyn Scott

The Devil in Disguise by Lisa Kleypas

The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez

Thief of Shadows by Elizabeth Hoyt

(Extra point, in many of these books the women do not stay infertile and have a miracle baby...not only do many cishet women never get their miracle baby but lesbian couples literally cannot concieve)

2- Bridgerton is a love letter to minorities in romance.

As someone who is south asian myself, I have seen how western beauty standards and racism has treated women in our culture, literally go online and search up "which race would you not date" its disgusting.

I grew up only seeing white women be the desirable one in romances as did many others, you know what changed this for me?

Kate Sharma.

The international audience for Bridgerton especially with brown women of South Asian descent grew TREMENDOUSLY. We had a woman like us portrayed positively and seen as desirable, you guys genuinely do not understand how many brown women watch this show because of season 2.

If we had Kate, WHY should Lesbians struggling with infertility and Black Lesbians not have Francesca and Micheala.

3- "It should have been Eloise and Cressida!"

Why? Because Eloise is a loud mouthed feminist and Cressida is a mean blonde and they shared an understanding? Because theyre both white?

While I do want Eloise to be queer as well just think about that for a moment, while lesbian representation is scarce these days it is even scarcer for Lesbians who do not fit the norm...the mostly white, neurotypical, skinny, cis norm.

Genuinely think about how many times ypu have seen these tropes in wlw fiction, like sit and think about it.

Such as Black lesbians for example, you all are aware they exist right?

I want to reccomend this video by a sunny book nook which talks about how lesbians in a VAST MAJORITY of lesbian romance novels arent really...allowed to be complex characters and it would be some FANTASTIC insight for some of yall

In conclusion, you are allowed to miss Michael, but don't you dare say this takes away from her story, as it ties into the very aim of the show.

I just wish people would stop using her injury as an excuse for her mins in the second half of this season. I love Kate as much as the next person but if I had to rank the bench mob performance from last night, she would be second to last just in front of Kiah. She has a lot of work ahead of her if she wants to have consistent contributions on this team. She needs to get stronger around the rim while driving the basketball is one example.

It’s not an excuse. It’s a fact. How was she getting decent minutes BEFORE her injury then right after she got injured, her mins were limited. People that just don’t care about the injury clearly have never been injured. Injuring your Achilles is probably one of the worst things that can happen to any professional player no matter how minor it is. People that also look at stats and expect her to score 20 points are out of their minds. She’s a role player, she’s always has been and it’s hilarious that people care more about her stats than Kate does herself. People only remember the mistake or two she made but ignore how good she is defensively. If KB didn’t make any of her shots people would be calling for her ass, too. Kate’s gonna be consistent with her defense and will always pass the ball first before she hunts for her shots. She’s always been an unselfish player so people need to get a grip with the scoring. Thats not the only way you contribute to the team. If people actually played basketball, they’d know that instead of be Couch Coaches who think they know what’s good or not for any players.

Consistent contributions for the Aces? She’s been consistent with her defense the whole season. People are so quick to blast her but don’t know the work she puts in during her off days and at practice. Playing basketball, that’s where you get better - practice. No one said anything when she came in vs NY and played good solid defense. Good thing the only opinion that matters to her are her coaches and teammates opinion and not couch coaches who know nothing about injury recovery and rehab.

Fact of the matter is, she is working hard behind the scenes - constantly learning and shadowing AC. Hammon has picked her to be AC’s replacement. You guys think Kate’s not gonna work hard on that?

People that has played basketball know it’s more than just scoring points, and if you think scoring points is all that mattered, I feel bad for you because for not learning the game.

Recently found the courage to go back and rewatch Kana I won’t say it didn’t hurt but I stopped before the you know what part and I’m choosing to believe they left together to go travelling.

Ah, man... The ending we could have so easily gotten and SHOULD have.

Sometimes I see notifications on old Kana posts and I look them up and read the tags and ahhhh, they were so good. Nothing can do it like soaps! You just don't get that time with characters outside of them. In fact, nowadays you can't even get 20 ep regular seasons or multiple seasons, your ship better be together by the end of 8 eps or that's it forever.

Actually, I wanted some comfort watching these last few weeks so I started watching the end of the second last Neighbours season, the one that was supposed to be the finale, because I knew they were going to reunite Chelly and I thought at least that'd be a nice ending, though I never did actually end up watching their original storyline. And it ended up being really touching and so amazing what they were able to do with all the cameos and wrapping what they thought were going to be forever endgames. Like, Mike and Jane, who were first together almost 40 years ago and getting a reunion so many years later? Played by the same actors? I adore that kind of thing.

But anyway, I ended up wanting to know more about Chelly and as it turns out, I had downloaded the full eps from the seasons they got together and have slowly been making my way through them and you truly get SO much with soaps! There are all these character and relationship building moments before the romance even starts. It's always been one of my regrets that Kana only got so much interaction before Rana's drunken kiss, but they definitely took their time after!

I was talking to my friend about Chelly and also that other Belgian soap I giffed a little while ago, Thuis, and we were discussing how rare it is that any soap couple gets the literal soulmate treatment Kana got. There are a lot of little moments I've forgotten but this one is burned in:

She was trying so hard not to give in but the mention of soulmate and she's helpless.

Sometimes I think about going back and watching and obviously also stopping before That happens, I might really do it at some point. I rewatch Otalia sometimes, the good stuff near the end of 2008, and it really isn't ruined by the trash that came later.

I also started watching this season of Ici Tout Commence, a French soap, after hearing of recent developments there, I'm still just on September but I'm enjoying the ride. Eastenders, I have all the eps downloaded from when Eve arrived but it seems too daunting a ride to get on at the moment. Keeping an eye on 4 Estrellas, I do actually love them but I tend to catch up in batches and I'd like to wait for them to get back together first. General Hospital, still not caught up at all. But yeah, it seems I'm a soap girl now, huh. :)

Favorite character: fuccckk this is difficult because I love all of them. Probaabblyyyy Sun?? She’s just such a bamf! But she’s soft too and I love that she can be both.

Second favorite character: Lito. I love every second of his drama filled life. Also when Will’s like “Have we met?” and Lito just grins and goes “We had sex” lololololol one of the best moments of the series.

Least favorite character: Whispers I guess.

Character I’m most like: ummmm Felix? Loyal, loves shoes, likes to go clubbing. Lol.

Favorite pairing: literally every pairing in this show is top tier butttttt either Lito x Hernando or Sun x Mun. Detective Mun is the softest sweetest man but also a badass so they’re perfect together!

Least favorite pairing: Whispers and his wife haha.

Favorite moment: in a show as surprising, sexy and suspenseful as this one it’s hard to pick a favorite. anytime Wolfie gets his rocket launcher out is a good time tho 😂 (and no that’s not a euphemism lol); also nomanita’s wedding is just so so sweet. And Sao Paulo Pride!

Rating out of 10: 15! I wish we’d gotten a full final season instead of the movie but honestly I’m just grateful for a wrap up and a satisfying ending.

so many at any given time, lovely anon. i don't know if you had something specific in mind but i'm gonna leave a few of my current/favorite headcanons here:

kate is INCREDIBLY forgetful. she doesn't do it on purpose and she hates it but there are way too many things going on inside her brain at one time for her to focus on the mundane things she has to do like replace a glass she broke or buy a new pair of boots.

she definitely puts up sticky notes EVERYWHERE. on the bathroom mirror, on the fridge, on her bedroom door and she still manages to forget things.

it doesn't really bother her until she starts dating you and she keeps forgetting planned dinners and important dates. you never hold it against her which just makes her feel even worse. so, you take over for her.

you replace the old, worn-down, sticky notes with your own. they're a ridiculous pastel color that looks more ghostly than purple but something about the change in handwriting seems to help her. [or maybe it's just the fact that you went out of your way to do something nice for her]

speaking of her bad habits, she's touch-starved as hell.

it's not like her mom has ever been the warmest of people and she's definitely never gone out of her way to get the affection she so secretly craves so she just writes the need off and tells herself physical touch just isn't her thing...except it is.

it's such a subtle, comforting thing that she doesn't even realize it. she just knows she loves holding your hand and snuggling up with you on the couch while you watch some trashy movie.

you never question her about it but you know deep down, she needs the affection more than she lets on. something that becomes incredibly obvious after she comes home from a mission gone wrong and immediately collapses into your arms. she's tired and bruised and so done and yet she holds onto you for hours like you're her personal charger.

LASTLY, she has a lot of trouble sleeping sometimes [mainly due to nightmares and worries but also just her restlessness] so the two of you get into the habit of making tea and sitting out on the fire escape. [until she inevitably falls asleep with her head on your shoulder and you're forced to stay outside in the cold because she just looks too darn cute to move.]

alternatively, you take her on a walk. [and she loves it far more than she should]

Y’know I have been thinking and I know everyone says soap having a praise kink which I believe but I like to expand on everyone having a praise kink for soap. An example ghost grabs something for Johnny and he praises ghost so much and for the rest of the day ghost does everything for him or he praises Alejandro for a simple thing in battle he makes sure to do something cool when he’s around. Rudy cooks for soap just to hear him talk about how much he loves Rudy cooking. König gets beaten when sparring with soap he praises him for lasting that long and touches him gently so he make sure to only lose to soap.

Legit just a bunch of dogs 🤣 I’m reading this and I can see every single one of them with ears and tail, the former pin straight up and the latter wagging like a fuckin maniac.

Gaz - though he’ll deny it to his dying breath - also loves it when Soap praises him for shit. It’s just so damn earnest and Johnny always has the best intentions for anyone he gives praise to that it’s so hard not to love it.

Even the recruits love getting praised by him, especially because the rest of the 141 are a bunch of hard asses.

Price always feels like a proud dad when Soap praises him and gloats to Laswell about being the favourite parent whenever he gets the chance. Johnny caught them once and found it so funny that he decided to shoot a bit of praise Laswell’s way just to watch her turn all smug against a pouting Price.
