Dustfinger slipped into place at Silvertongue's side and joined him in gazing passively outward from the battlements and across the glittering mirror of a lake below.

He hadn't announced his presence. He didn't need to. The two of them just seemed to understand one another's movements implicitly.

He didn't need to ask why Silvertongue wasn't sleeping, either. He knew that they were both lucky to get any sleep at all in the midst of the anxiety shrouding the castle and their best-laid plans.

They didn't have to talk about it, and neither of them particularly wanted to. Everything that needed to be said had already been said.

Veritas Ratio had always been an underachiever-- quite a strange term for somebody like him. Always soaring to the top, and yet the top was never high enough. Nobody could best him, and yet he was constantly expected to be better, to surpass even himself.

Some called him crazy, others dedicated. He was always most adept at whatever he chose to do-- and having eight successful doctorates in such a short amount of time was no easy feat. And yet, he was ever the underachiever-- never to others, but to his parents and to himself.

Years of blood, sweat, and tears and that burning desire to be noticed-- and where did that get him? Rejected from the Genius Society. As if all his research suddenly meant nothing and was reduced to ashes before his own eyes, as if he were inferior.

Oh, how they had been wrong. The truth none of those almighty "Geniuses" wanted to face was that he was superior, to such a point where they feared him.

And so the doctor decided he was not to ally himself with any faction, leaving the Intelligentsia Guild and abandoning his dream to instead follow the path of Nihility, dedicating himself to the greatest cause-- knowledge.

For all that those Geniuses could not do, Veritas would bring the sheer power of what was and is down on all who were ignorant.

Some say the Nihility changed him completely-- realigning his views and stripping away his very humanity. There are many versions of this rumour, but one thing echoes through them all...

The man he once was is no longer recognizable.

About My Response Times & Writing Process

"You take a while to respond. Why is that?"

My current average response time to roleplaying is about 4 - 5 days. This can be longer or shorter depending on several factors (mental health, fleeting muse, real life responsibilities, etc.). If I go on a hiatus, I try to make sure I post something in my updates about it so that I don't leave anyone wondering. At the moment, I have several roleplays going on between Discord and Tumblr. On top of that, I receive a lot of DMs (almost daily) from my partners, people asking about replies, sharing posts with me, etc. I also manage other blogs, which are listed in my pinned post. There are other projects that I'm working on and real life situations that need my attention, too. As a general rule for myself, I try to make sure that my replies aren't half-assed and are satisfying for both parties, so I tend to put a lot of time and effort into them. For those who don't already know, I usually take about an hour or so to get a reply put together (assuming I don't get busy or distracted by real life). I'd also like to clarify that I'm not complaining! I love that people want to interact with my muses and I don't mind at all, but these are the reasons why it takes me a while. ♡

"What does your writing process look like?"

Picking out GIFs I think express my muse the best in that situation (also trying not to reuse the same GIFs too closely together in the same thread, despite limited source material). Looking up synonyms so I don't use the same wording too often (you can tell when I'm tired because I'll accidentally put the same word twice, misspell, etc.). Rephrasing what I've already written so that it flows more smoothly and conveys the right tone (arrogant, playful, flirty, etc.). Sometimes there's a lot of research I have to do into my muse or the universe we're playing in to figure out if something will work for that response or could work later down the line. Coming up with new ideas, plot twists, headcanons, etc. while I'm writing so that I can add them in later or tailor the story in the direction we already discussed. Taking the time to reply/reread DMs so that I can plot further if needed, so sometimes I pause in the middle of replies to ask my partners about certain things, reread DMs where we already talked about ideas, etc. At times, I also reread rules and boundaries depending on where the RP is headed (I'm usually good about remembering these, but I want to make sure that I don't cross that for any of my partners because mutual respect is important to me). There are times I don't know how to respond to a roleplay yet, so I'll reread it a few times until I can find a good way to continue.

I'm starting completely fresh in the Tumblr RPC. I'm from Discord and Amino to try looking for people willing to be CCs/Canon Character muses against my OCs. How exactly do I go about looking for that? How does searching for RP work here? I genuinely just have so many questions bc everything is really confusing to me. 🙇‍♀️

Hmmmm...I feel your frustration, as a someone that has been on this site since 2011, and in the Tumblr RPC since 2012, I can attest it's way harder now to get into rp than it did even 4 years ago. I'm going to answer this for anyone, not just your case, because I feel OC and Canon players of all kinds are trapped in this same problem!!!

The 2 major causes to difficulty connecting in the RPC:

People here have gotten way more prickly and cold and have 100 red flags and objections in their rules that make seeking out a partnership flimsy at best. (Dangerous to your mental health at worst.) If you see someone like this, don't bother trying to win them over. Chances are they are going to whine about everything you ask of them, think anything you do is offensive, or it's a huge "honor" to be even considered a mutual. RUN away from these types, and don't waste your time. They don't want partners, they want an audience to their personal drama, and will probably be an asshole to you OOC, and make you look like the bad guy to their sycophants. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

People here have also gotten way more FLAKEY and don't reach out and engage the way they used to. They post memes all day and beg for starters, but don't answer them once you have managed to snag them. They make 100 muses but never rp any of them except the one you don't want. Attention spans on here have gotten shorter than a fly's.

It seems daunting, but fortunately, the old ways to find partners still work....

Use the search function, for "RP STARTERS" and the like, BUT!! Don't reply to the starter until you've looked at the OP's blog. Read their rules. They may only post starters for mutuals, or selective fandom affliates. If you find you like that blogger, and decide to follow, it's a way in.

Post a "call out" for your blog. Make a Promo of some kind, but tag it: "RP BLOG" ; "OC RP" ; "RPC PROMO" ; "(genre name) RP," If your OC is affiliated to any fandoms, or could fit into desired fandoms, tag as such IE: "LOTR RP". Even if your OC is not fandom affiliated, you should tag it into popular fandoms you know would work with your muse. It at least gets views. And if someone happens to like or reblog your promo post, it gives you a window into more blogs.

Another "sneaky" but very effective way is to go into the notes of memes and starters and look at the likes/reblogs. Hit up those icons/urls, do some research on partners that may be a future choice. Again, read their rules, scroll through their posts, see if you think it's a good match for your character AND your writing style. For me, this is the best way to look for new blogs to interact with. It's living proof that there are STILL A LOT OF WRITERS LOOKING FOR INTERACTION!

Don't be afraid to tag yourself into things!!!! Remember, the first 5 tags get the most hits. Just don't spam tags that have nothing to do with your blog, as a courtesy.

I'm a classically trained repertory actor and am the second- earliest Pup in the history of modern-day Pup Play (hence my blog name).

When I started typing out my addition to that post, I honestly had no idea where it was going to end up. When I finished the tags, I sat back, looked at it, shook my head, and said to myself what the fuck and hit the arrow.

I had NO idea that it would take off the way it did - the post already had more than 10,000 notes, and the last time I looked at it it was close to 110,000, and ain't it a wonder? 😎

September 11th is part of my foundation now, it's entwined in my DNA, and of course it's never more than a breath away from my thoughts - but after two decades and more, the shadow of that day no longer blocks the light from my sight.

Now, a full generation has passed, and many people have no memory of the event or were born years afterward. That's why some of us keep talking about it, and sometimes joke about it - let's face it, we're the only ones who can make 9/11 jokes and not go straight to Hell! - because we owe it to you, to the future, to history, to our friends and neighbors and colleagues and loved ones who died that day, to that place where life abounded, to ourselves.

At a very low point in 2003, one of my lowest, I sat on an exam table in my doctor's office in New York, homeless and destitute and beat up and sick, and I said, "I want to kill myself." Without even turning around, the young medical assistant who was across the room said, "Oh, please don't do that, Mr Smith. We need your testimony." ..and with those words, she saved my life.

My offer still stands, and 9/11/24 is just 10 months away!

If you're thinking about getting into online fandom roleplaying, whether you're new or coming back to it, here's a post about how to do that!

I've seen posts going around recently about how online fandom roleplaying is dying off, but there are still thriving roleplaying spaces for those interested enough to look. Here's how to get into it!

Consider what you want to roleplay:

What fandoms do you want to roleplay and how popular are they?

Do you want to be completely anonymous?

Would you like to send rapid shorter responses?

Would you like a long-term roleplay, or a one-off?

Are you seeking NSFW content?

Also, who do you want to roleplay and how much do you know about that character or their setting? Do a quick bit of research by looking at their fan wiki or taking another look at the content the character comes from. Look up a few memorable phrases they say and mannerisms they have, to make roleplaying them authentic.

Decide what website to use:

Depending on what kinds of things you want to roleplay, and your style preferences. you may want to choose a different site. Here are some examples.

Rolechat.org: An anonymous roulette type chat site, where you are matched with a random person using the same tags as you. You can add tags for fandoms or pairing you wish to roleplay with. Roleplays here are fast-paced, have shorter replies, and you can find many potential roleplayers under each tag. There is an 18+ section, however there is no age verification to access it, so I would not recommend any NSFW roleplaying here as you can't know the partner's age. You can also save a log of your roleplays!

Tumblr: If you search certain tags, often [fandom] rp will do, you'll find roleplayers and people seeking roleplay partners! A roleplay blog is an option, but you can also find partners to roleplay with in your DMs.

CheRP: A forum where you can post ads to seek roleplay partners. You can get verified here, and choose to only roleplay with those who are over 18. Those using this site are much more likely to want to plan roleplays and do something long-term, and may exchange e-mails or social media with you!

Discord: If you're someone seeking group roleplays, this may be your best bet! There are many discord servers which cater to finding roleplay partners, to be found on disboard.org, and if you join a large roleplay server for this then there will be ads by smaller servers for you to find your niche! You can add friends on here, keep track of roleplays and search through them afterwards, plus chat instantly.

There are many more - and you can feel free to mix and match!

Learn the etiquette:

You'll learn the culture of the site you use as you go, but you should know the basics before you start.

When you want to speak OOC (out of character), you should use brackets ((like this)) or [like this], and in this way you can give background info on a scenario or make suggestions about how the roleplay should go.

Make a dedicated roleplay e-mail, in case someone wants to exchange socials and/or e-mails after a really good roleplay!

Prepare some starters or ideas:

I know it's nerve-wracking, but once you've decided what you want to roleplay and where... it's time to put yourself out there! Write up a starter, or an outline of a roleplay you'd like to work on, or an ad for a roleplay partner, and lets get going!

I believe it's called "one-two-three". I was wondering if you have more ideas for it, beacause i love it so much and crave more :) it's fine if you don't. I just really want to know if techno manage to teach dream tango after they got out. Do they dance regularly? Did dream become good at it? ,ect... anyway, love your writing style❤

yes, i did write "in the wild all lessons last," and my first dsmp fic ever was "one-two-three" !!  i watched this video when i was doing research for it, and it made me decide to go with tango for dream and techno. something about the style always seemed combative to me, so i think the best fighters on the server would really vibe with it.

so, i do think dream would be good at it, but it might take him some time to get there...

Dream hasn’t left his bed in about 23 hours.

It’s not that Technoblade’s been counting or anything.  He’s been busy doing other things-- he cleaned the animal stalls and set out fresh hay (which took around 4 hours), trained with the Axe of Peace (about 3 hours), took an embarrassingly long nap (4 hours total, with a brief intermission for dinner which took an extra hour), and read (2 hours).  Combined with his approximate 9 hour night prior, that takes us to 23 hours of almost no movement from Dream whatsoever.  But, again, Techno was not counting.

With the sun low in the sky, and with next to no attention from his former cellmate all day, he headed up to the guest room himself.

He saw Phil take some extra blankets up to him earlier, and while many of them were stacked on top of Dream’s legs and torso, both which were entirely too thin, others were rolled up between his arms and held tightly in a half-asleep embrace.  His hair, overgrown and wild, was partially in his face.  Techno struggled to peer between the tangled strands to get a look at Dream’s face, expecting to see him fully lost in sleep, but was surprised to spot a pair of green eyes looking back at him.

“Oh, hey, roomie.”

“Hey,” came the hoarse reply.

Techno sat on the edge of the mattress, slowly and carefully, aware of how his weight might jostle Dream.  “I got a job for you tomorrow,” Techno said.

Dream gave him a suspicious stare.  Small and limp on the bed, he didn’t look capable of completing any ‘jobs.’

“Dog brushin’,” Techno continued with a smile.  “I’ve been puttin’ it off, so I’m makin’ it your problem.”

Dream adjusted the way his head sat on the pillow, burrowing himself into it more.  He sighed, closing his eyes for a moment.  His skin was drawn taut over his skull, pale and sickly, and his eye sockets bore a heavy shadow.  They might’ve been bruised.  “When?”

“Whenever, really.  I can wake you up after I’m done feedin’ everyone, maybe?  I just gotta show you where the brushes are, and tell you which dogs need it.”

“Mm-kay.”

Victory for Technoblade.  He grinned.  “Cool, cool.  See you tomorrow, then, nerd.”

He was about to lift himself from the mattress when Dream’s voice stopped him.  “Wait.”  

“Mm?”

“You wanted to dance with me.  In the prison.”

“Correction: I did dance with you.  That counted.”  Techno folded a leg below him on the bed, getting comfortable again.  “And I’m still teachin’ you to tango, like I promised.  Then we’re gonna dance all the time.”

“I’m even worse than I was before.  I walked to the bathroom by myself earlier and I fell.”  Behind the mess of his hair, Dream’s eyes were wet.  “You’re not gonna be able to keep your promise.”

Moments of total silence weren’t common in Techno’s life.  Even in times of peace, quiet spaces were usually filled with whatever repetitive nonsense the Voices yelled at him.  The Voices seemed just as shocked at Dream’s rare display of vulnerability as he was, though, and the silence in the room was unbearable.  He heard his own breath.  He heard Dream swallow, hard.

“You underestimate me, dude.  Look, I can dance with you right now.”

Giving little space for disagreements, Techno shoved his forearms under the mass of blankets and lifted.  For as light as Dream was before, he seemed even lighter now.  A few more months of starvation will do that to a man, he supposed.  The blankets Dream held in his arms were left abandoned on the mattress, unraveling as they dropped.  Before he was able to let out more than a muffled ‘Mmnpf!” of surprise, Dream was fully cradled and supported several feet off the ground.

Like before, Techno started moving.

He swayed, keeping the movement relatively slow.  He still remembered the pattern they created in the cell; 1-2-3-left-1-2-3-left, and he started there, tracing a circle around the guest room with his hooves.  His steps were more resounding and rich here than they were in the cell.  There, the obsidian made a sharp sound, but the wood of the cabin seemed more appropriate for a dance.

All the while, Dream was simply along for the ride.  The corners of his mouth curved into a smile.

“Tango’s all about pacin’, right?  So here’s what we’re gonna do.  Five steps, and the first two are slow,”  Techno stepped forward twice, starting with his left, “then fast twice,” he stretched his right leg outward, bringing them to the side with two quick steps, “and slowly drag the left foot back to meet, see? Slow-slow-fast-fast-slow.”

Tango is all about pacing.

An observer wouldn’t be able to tell who was leading the steps-- they seemed to switch at random, constantly shifting their footwork and adapting to one another.  Slow-slow-fast-fast-slow.  One moment, Techno was clearly stepping forward, and the next, he’d be led back by Dream.  The trick was in their hands, actually; when Dream wanted to lead, he’d press his palms forward into Techno’s hands.  Techno, unfailingly, would let him.

And, of course, there were the moments of agility that Techno knew his partner would be fantastic with.  He’d sweep ahead, blocking Dream’s feet, and looked forward to seeing what jump or flair he’d use to counter the movement.

“Your hair’s whiter than I remember,” Techno commented once as he lead them into a Grapevine spin, bringing his hooves close together to base himself as he lead Dream around.

“Don’t think about it too hard,” was Dream’s somewhat dismissive answer.  His voice, no longer as small and hoarse as it used to be, projected well over the record player.  Techno had a collection of different music styles and genres that he liked to pull out for different dances, and he had a variety that were good for tango.  Some were slow, dramatic, and elegant, while others were more energetic and lively.  This day tended towards the latter, though they still shared many slow, dark routines that harkened back to their earliest dances together.  Dream would come to him with a heartbroken look in his eyes, and Techno would know what to do.

“Weird bleach job?”

“Uh, yeah, we’ll go with that, sure.”

Technoblade was no idiot.  He knew his rival was up to something.  The guy always seemed to have some kind of agenda he wouldn’t talk about, but whatever it was, it didn’t involve Techno right now, so he didn’t push it.  The back-and-forth of a good dance could be enough for now.

After all, he did make a promise.

No bathroom stuff, please! Some of my OCs: -a deep sea triton who's been captured and trapped in a facility to be studied, vaguely inspired by the shape of water. Could be inserted in a setting where said triton is free and might meet a lonely lighthouse keeper? -A magic-made sentient blob of tar possessing teeth that live in a suit of armor like a hermit crab. Its old master has been dead for years. It's freaky-looking but ultimately friendly. Unless someone makes it angry on purpose -A cop. Just an ordinary cop guy, maybe, grumpy, and rough around the edges. Miserable bastard with a heart of gold trope. Stubborn and resilient. He might chase you to the ends of the earth it if comes down to it -a doctor of medicine who messed up his own DNA, the results are a little visceral -A priest who lives with a demonic parasite lodged in his chest. It acts like cancer. Hates everything supernatural and has a lot of anger issues and violent tendencies -A former military special unit, genetically modified to be large, over 7 ft, heavy, and scared. He just wants to live a quiet life, but it's hard when your hands are that big If you are interested, like this post and I will find you! ✍️

re: joui being a stereotype, I've definitely like. had the thought in the back of my mind throughout watching osnf? like I very much did watch it all with the view of "i have seen Luba's instagram and know he is very into Japan and like hmm. this feels. off"

I did enjoy osnf very much and I like Joui as a character! just. not those parts. because. well whatever Luba's intentions were it feels a bit. hm. I found it mostly bearable to watch (with suspension of disbelief re: the amount of honorifics, I got used to it) but I did cringe at the "samurai ancestor" part (which he in-rp did later tell Thiago was a lie but also like. come on. you could have also just Not Said That) and definitely felt like he was overdoing the "number 4 is bad luck" superstition thing too. like even if someone is superstitious surely nobody actually reacts like that every time the number is mentioned. y'know

and like credit to them for changing his name to a more realistic spelling a couple episodes in at least (even if the name itself is probably also questionable) and also for Luba toning it down on the Japanese exclamations/swearing (because they did feel very like. anime character esque slash neg lol). but yeah on the whole I watched osnf through a lens of "this is not a realistic depiction of a Japanese person and I am aware of that"

then again I don't know how common of an experience this is or whether people do just watch it uncritically (actually knowing the internet the answer is Very Likely Yes. but also reading the replies on that tweet it appears this view is a general consensus at least among some people) but. well. wanted to share my thoughts I suppose. sorry for discoursing in your inbox ^^

yeah we started the season and i was like okay so that's the character luba chose to create. okay it's getting worse. oh worse than that. oh it just keeps going. awesome cool not upsetting at all.

i didn't even remember the samurai ancestor thing that's pretty bad i just think everything about joui is a terrible stereotype and luba should've made like literally any other character instead of him. it also does not help that i just don't like him as a character (sorry to. apparently every other ordem fan? seriously joui is THE most popular ordem character by far). but yeah the honorifics are terrible and so gross, the name choice is weird, the four thing pisses me off so bad because as menace says whenever we're talking about it: it's not like joui is superstitious in any other way! it's very clear luba heard about four being a superstitious number in east asian culture and decided to just go all in on that instead of doing any research on like occultism and perspectives on the supernatural in asia. also him being a prodigious gymnast in any other context wouldn't bother me but it does also feel like yet another japanese stereotype and also (this is just me being nitpicky and not really about the racism side of things) but the fact that joui's character build isn't actually built for gymnastics kills me. he doesn't even have good acrobatics!!!! he has WAY better strength and athletics, at least during OSNF, and i cannot for the life of me understand why you would create a character with a gymnast backstory if not to have reasons for good acrobatics and dex stats.

all of that plus the honor stuff is just awful i can't deal with it we literally have to pause every time joui starts talking to an npc because it's not fun to watch for so many reasons and it just makes me feel terrible. i don't know why luba thought it would be a good idea, it reads completely as him being a major weeb with no thoughts about how bad this is as representation.

also i know for a fact most fans watch it uncritically because again i've only seen ONE person talk about this and it was that tweet (and the replies, to be fair, in which a lot of people agreeing) i posted earlier in an ask. i'm sure people over the years have talked about it to some extent but i see people talk about joui CONSTANTLY and this is the first time i've seen anyone bring up how much the character sucks from a stereotyping angle. like, if i were to tell someone to watch this season, i would heavily warn them about this aspect of it, because for me it makes it really difficult to engage with joui as a character at all, aside from all my other issues with the season.

on your last point, i'm finishing up OSNF now, so i haven't seen any later seasons, but rainy said that luba tones it down somewhat and that the focus is more on his actual actions and progression as a character and less on the caricature of a japanese person that he is for the entirely of OSNF. i'll keep my expectations measured, personally, but i do believe i've heard somewhere that luba did realize how poorly it came across and tried to improve it, so there's that.

I have studied history and international politics in college, and plan to focus on medieval times in graduate school when I attend. Relta’s verses on this blog are heavily influenced by actual history and historical figures, so please know I HAVE done my research or asked my Tudor historian friend lol I might twist it and throw in a ton of various influences, but it’s still historically inspired.

I saw BBC’s Robin Hood…18 years ago now…when it first came out and I was a kid, so I’m a bit rusty on it since I can’t find a free way to rewatch it. Thus, I’ll be leaning into headcanons a bit and actual history about King Richard, the Crusades, and Robin Hood lore for the V: Lionhearted verse. I’d be happy to discuss the show AND history/lore with anyone interested in this verse.

I often post worldbuilding and headcanon stuff about Relta in these verses, so don’t be surprised if they outnumber IC posts for a while.

Relta has been an OC of mine since I played make believe with my friends in elementary school, and simply has evolved to who she is now through a passion for creative writing and a gaining of knowledge on character building. She’s still a bit Mary Sue-ish at times, but I work hard to incorporate her flaws and weaknesses as much as I do her strengths and positive traits. She’s not perfect, as no one is.

You know, we're doing things quick and dirty here on Tumblr, but I don't think people realise the volume of writing RP blogs can put out. I wrote and queued eight replies today, after dedicating an otherwise lazy day to writing. Each reply is an average of 250 words long. Some shorter, some longer, but that's what I strive for, on average.

8 x 250 = 2000 words. NaNoWriMo, one of the most strenuous writing challenges there is, only asks you to write 1,666 words a day. I've won NaNoWriMo. 1,666 words, day in, day out, is fucking hard. It took me seven attempts to beat NaNoWriMo once.

Most full-time authors average 1,500 to 2,000 words a day. When I wrote professionally, as my Full Time Actual Job, my average was 1,000 - 1,500 in a day. caveat: I was writing for an employment law firm and ergo I wasn't writing every day, but even when all my legal research was done and checked off by my supervisor, on my writing days, 1,500 was the high end, a good day.

If you can't pump replies out, for god's sake, go easy on yourself. One, you're probably writing more than you think, whilst balancing full time jobs or school or disability to boot. And two, professional writers write less than you probably think.

Azalea is an average citizen of Linkon City, working at the aquarium until it gets shut down, as well as a pet-and-plant-sitter. She has two pet dogs, Buddy the Rhodesian Ridgeback, and Lulu the Pointer. She's very active and loves to go for regular walks and runs, anything outdoorsy!

Lea doesn't have an Evol, and is rather content with her 'normal' life. Though she does find Wanderers fascinating!
