Art Notes: I've been stuck in a drawing rut so bad lately. It was a struggle making this piece. But, I signed up as a pinch hitter, so I was determined to keep my word when they called on me. It's funny because I find drawing younger Jared/Sam and younger Jensen/Dean to be so intimidating because there's just a big limit on references from their younger years. But, then the mods made a post about being worried people would drop and that worried me. I'm a supporter of gencest and wincest things so I did want the zine to succeed.

So, I signed up as a pinch hitter with half of me hoping that I can do something at least half way decent if they call on me and the other half thinking that they probably won't even need me. I'm just a back up in case someone else can't do their work. But, come to find out for some unfortunate reason someone did drop out of teen section and I was called to make good on my promise. And for what it's worth, I did make good on it.

The mods gave me somewhere around, I guess, 2 months? I got most of March and then all of April to finish. Starting from March 5, I started brainstorming questions and ideas right away. I asked if there was a collective zine theme besides the boys being teens. The mod told me the main theme was them growing up together. And I was going to go for gencest (though if people want to see it as wincest Idc, go ahead) I chose the option to have the boys doing regular teenager stuff with a hunter twist.

After that I asked if there was any additional info I needed and if I needed to be aware of what others were creating so we all didn't create the same stuff, mainly because the last Zine I was in the mods were worried about that. There wasn't any additional info that I needed, but the mod I was talking to did say go ahead and run any ideas I had about what I wanted to do by them and they'd check if I was doing something too similar to another artist. So, five days later I came back with two ideas that I was toying with, "a hot summer day stuck in a cabin/house/motel, or Sam and Dean in some kind of a dark back alley with neon lights". The response I got back was that the latter idea was the most unique. So, I went forward with that idea.

So, before I started sketching Sam and Dean, I obsessively searched for refs of young Jared and Jensen and saving what I could find to my drive for ease of access. In the zine guidelines the teen section said 15-18 years old, which didn't specify if that meant 18 for Sam or 18 for Dean. I took it as 18 for Sam. Which even though gives me a bigger range to work with, ends up making Dean technically a legal adult than a teen. But, I don't specify the ages in this piece so I feel like there's some plausible deniability with Sam being somewhere in his later teen years but before Stanford.

Anyways, I tried to concentrate on refs around those times, but Jared's youth on the internet is pretty much non existent especially compared to Jensen. But, I tried my best even though I ended up mainly using refs from when Jared and Jensen were young adults. I did try to make them look younger than the refs tho, especially Sam. I shortened his chin a smidge and made him noticeable shorter than Dean who's leaning against the wall, not even standing at full height. I also had to brainstorm what kind of hairstyle I wanted to put on Sam. I decided to give him something similar to his main season 1 hair, but a little shorter in length. And that's mainly because I wanted this to look like Sam, rather than Jared and his other roles. I'm not sure how I feel about the final results. A lot of this work was me not really having concrete directions and me just playing around, for better or worse.

When I started, I sketched Sam and Dean first and then tried to sketch out a background that made sense for their positions. I keep trying to do backgrounds, but I don't know if I'm getting any better at them. It's definitely not my worst, but I feel like it could be better somehow.

On March 30th, the first check in was due and I had pretty much finished my sketch. I changed my mind on it being nighttime with neon lights in the background and wanted to color it with daytime in mind. I thought daytime might be easier to color and render. And, I told the mods that "I feel good about my progress, and I'm pretty sure I'll be done before April 25th," which was the final check in on the schedule.

After that I made the line art and colored in the base colors. I put a free texture on the brick wall, and copy, paste, and vertically flipped a reflection of the background building for the background pavement. I added in the signs and fonts with Photoshop Elements 15. But, when I started to add shading and lighting, I changed my mind again. I wanted it to be raining, and the boys are taking cover by some kind of overhang in the alleyway. But, I still wanted it to be daytime, but on like a really cloudy evening where light is barely shining through the clouds. In the end, it ended up being darker than I initially was going for. So, it like full circled back to nighttime by the end.

As some late additions, I added water drops to the foreground, because sometimes water gets stuck to the camera lens, windows, glasses, or eyelashes in rainy scenes and I thought it'd be cool. And, I added a faint passing car light to be the main light for Sam and Dean's shadows on the wall, or at least that was the idea, anyways. I also did try to add graffiti to the wall too, but it felt really distracting so I ended up making it really faint.

Towards the end, I pretty much got sick of looking at and fiddling with it. I get somewhat obsessive sometimes, where I can't let things go. And, it's like the little things in this piece would be driving me crazy, but I couldn't figure out what it was. I was at that point where continuing to try to fix whatever I was bothering me had just as much a likelihood of making the piece worse. So, on April 18th, I turned it in. And then, I waited for May 2nd when the Zine would be officially posted. The next day after I made and submitted my personal art posts. And that's pretty much everything.

Looking back at it now, I'm pretty happy with how my Sam and Dean turned out. I need to work on my background and composition skills (those seem to be what I always struggle with the most) but overall I feel pretty good about the whole thing. I probably need to force myself to experiment more with free flowing, simple, blurry styles instead of my go to where everything has a defined shape. But, saying it vs actually breaking out of my comfort zone is an up hill battle.

This is just a peek behind the curtains. I took out the rain, reflection, fog, atmosphere filter, some of the lighting, the car light, and one shading layer. In some ways this version is better for being less complicated, but I do like the moodiness in the official version. I'm mainly sharing this to compare and contrast with the main, and to show that yes, I did intend for daytime initially when coloring, lol.

Born on the 3rd of September in Seoul, South Korea to Lin Choi and Robert kingly, Minnie lived there until she was 2 before moving to Sydney, Australia where her mother walked out on her shortly after turning 6, this led to Minnie to be shut-off emotionally and mentally from everyone. Her father added into the trauma by neglecting her, whilst also being emotionally and physically abusive.

Soon the two moved to Paris, where she now attends Collège Françoise Dupont, despite being shut-off emotionally from everyone- she has managed to befriend Rose, Juleka, Nathaniel and Marc- students from her class.

Jack Frost Designs Review

Yes it’s finally his time. This is going to include his book designs including previous incarnations in said books. There are more movie concept designs than book so, let’s dig in shall we?

This was in fact the first ever Jack Joyce designed while he came up with The Guardians Of Childhood. He even comes with his own backstory! (Which was cut. Sorry Joyce posts walls of text so it’s a girthy read.)

So instead of a young mischievous trickster, we got a much more depressing story of Jack. (Jack by default is sad obviously) but this one... It kind of hits differently and almost reminds me of the story he crafted for Pitch. A dad who tried to defend his family but through tragic events was ripped from them and changed completely. Design wise, he’s a lot more tree than snow. There doesn’t exist a colored version of this so we’ll never know if he sported winter and dull dead leaf colors rather than grassy greens.This Jack has a weird presence to him, I can’t put my finger on it. Rating: 6/10 He’s really neat! Just a little too Autumn feeling rather than a blend of both Autumn and Winter.

Nightlight feels like the baby evolution if Jack was a pokemon and that's what I’m gonna stick with. Below is a more recent version of him colored.

In all honesty that one is easier on the eyes proportion wise because sometimes Joyce has ‘interesting’ anatomy choices but we aint going into that today. It’s interesting how his hair somehow looks shorter and longer than Jack’s at the same time. Could be because the longer strands float seamlessly but star boy hair physics what can ya do. It’s a little hard to tell what is his skin and what is his armor, so that is a casuality in making a character only have one or two colors in their color scheme. I love other artist’s depictions of Nightlight but the canon one feels a little weak color wise. Rating: 5/10 Sorry, get some better LEDs and then come back.

Here we have a book Jack but I can’t entirely recall if this was used in the books or not. I digress. This design looks like him still wearing very Nightlight-esque armor/clothing and slowly growing into his new persona as Jack Frost. The intricacies are hard to make out but we’ll work with it. This one is very interesting to me because he very much looks like an older teen close to young adult. His hair looks very fluffy too. Not many complaints about this one but not much praise either.

Rating: 6/10 Not great but doesn’t stand out that much.

Remember when I said Joyce had ‘interesting’ anatomy decisions? Jack looks like he has half a head here and it bothers me GREATLY. This is the adult Jack design he went with. Supposedly he likes the opera and he sure looks it. This! Exists!! Kind of wish it didn’t. The outfit is nice but it just doesn’t fit Jack as a whole. This just screams to me that it’s someone else with a similar-ish hairstyle.

Rating: 3/10 Guess he’d be the...Phantom Of The Opera. (I’ll go home and so should he.)

And finally the final Jack. This is the one that almost exactly resembles the Jack we got in the movies(Probably because it was made after the movie but w/e) but just add a cape on him. I can’t really tell if hes got a hoodie and a cape, or just a cloak+hood on top of a sweatshirt. It isn’t too important because my thoughts on this one are obvious. Rating: 10/10 Edna Mode would have a field day with you boy.

MOVIE DESIGN TIME

Joyce claims this is a design he drafted when Leonardo DiCaprio was considered to voice Jack and I can kind of see that with how his face is drawn here. This Jack looks a lot more like a warrior and less of that trickster look. I can’t say I’m a fan of the weird antenna his hood has but his sword is really cool looking.

Rating: 4/10 Nice bow and sword but it can’t save your fashion choices.

This looks like a lanky 11-13 year old who would put rocks or slugs in my shoes and relish in my disgust. He has the exact look of a snot nose kid and I’m unsure how to feel about it.

His various hairstyles drafted here sort of make him softer looking or just more of a snot nose, no in between. Maybe even an Anime Protagonist.

The top right one almost looks like Hiccup from How To Train Your Dragon if you squint. It’ll be a little hard to rate them all as one individual but why not.

Rating: 5/10 I don’t hate them but they aren’t my cup of tea.

AH- IS THAT A FUCKIN GREMLIN?

Oh wait no it isn’t he looks like a 10 year old. Whatever don’t feed him after midnight. The staff’s design of not being shaped like a G is an interesting tidbit but the whole design looks like he’s really young or like a troll etc. This Jack looks like he thinks girls have cooties uses outdated slang.

Rating: 4/10 This is me being generous.

It honestly looks like he hiked his pants up all the way to his chest. A late teen with horrid fashion choices once again. Not many other thoughts here.

Rating: 2/10 Get a sweater on or something.

This is one is very interesting looking to me. His clothes looked a lot more leather based and very human-like. The tatters, tears and frays all make him look like he was a victim of an accident that never changed his clothes. It makes me wonder if this Jack had the same death as the final movie Jack or something else entirely. Either way, this one looks like hes a mid to late teen which really adds to my intrigue.

This was another image that greatly resembled the design so I included it here. It almost looks like his skin is blue here which is pretty neat to me at least. He’s also got leaf motifs here, which from the first Jack design Joyce made, we can see a pattern here.

Rating: 8 /10 I was originally weirded out by his head but now its not so bad.

This Jack is definitely dressed more like a nature boy rather than him having human influenced fashion and it’s an appealing touch. The tiny leaf sprouting from his staff is also kind of cute since the designers seemed to want to put leafs somewhere on his designs. His hairstyle is also very cute but it reminds me of Sasuke Uchiha in a sense. (Not a setback for me at least)

Rating: 7/10 13 year old Jack is going thru a phase.

I thought this Jack didn’t show up again in story boards but I was wrong!

They look a little different from each other but just similar enough to pair together, so bare with me. The first one obviously has looser pants, slightly longer sleeves and got his leaf motif going. This second Jack is a VERY green. It gives the impression that this Jack made his clothes out of plants and natural materials. Again I’m not wholly sure if greens fit his color scheme but they sure went for it for a while. I can’t say I’m a fan of it because it heavily reminds me of Peter Pan.

However a very similar looking Jack could be found in this storyboard. It doesn’t look as green as the other storyboards made it out to be and looks more like dead grass. Which is a pretty nice touch.

Rating: 5/10 I don’t hate it but it just doesn’t vibe yknow.

Speaking of a vibe...hoo this certainly has one. This Jack isn’t old but certainly doesn’t look very young, maybe in the 20-30 range, thats just me. He has facial features that remind me of Pitch but resembles the Jack Frost of Santa Clause 3

That being said, I wondered if him looking similar to Pitch was in the storyline of them being brothers.(Which was a scrapped thing, who knew.) He’s a bit more menacing in this design but certainly seems like he relishes in his work.

Rating: 4/10 I’d make it a lower score but I gotta give it props

NOW THIS JACK IS KINDA INTERESTING. This one looks like he’s 16 and going through a grunge phase. He’s gonna play Nirvana loudly and not turn it down even if you tell him too. His staff itself has mini icicles hanging off of it and leafs look stuck to his shirt. Did you glue or staple those on Jack? His hair also looks much longer than his other designs and I kind of dig it( Shut up I’m bias.) I’m not wholly sure why else this design has stuck with me but it just has something about it that I just love. I wish there was a full body drawing of it.

(He also kinda has the same hair as the Jack Frost in Runescape but I wont go on about that hoo hoo)

Rating: 9/10 *Bad Boy by Cascada plays in the distance*

This one definitely feels like middleschooler trying to be in a band. His sticks just resemble drumsticks to me what can I say. I’m a big fan of his shoes and his color scheme screams a hibernating tree in winter. His hair also looks like it’s covered in frost rather than it being wholly white, which is very neat!! He looks like he wants to fight but has slight hesitance. Overall a very balanced Jack.

Rating: 8/10 He’s ready for band practice

Not many thoughts here, I just found these tiny Jack designs cute. His hoodie being a jacket instead just adds to the charm of this one.

No talk to him he angy.

Rating: 6/10 fun sized boi

Now this Jack resembles the one earlier that dressed entirely in leather brown colors, however he clearly is different than that one. I’m gonna say it, he looks like a zombie or undead in this design and its pretty fucking gnarly. I don’t know whats going on with his hair but I’m gonna assume it’s just the wind making it look like that. He just has the vibe that he was once human but was turned into something else entirely. It isnt in uncanny territory but borders that. This version of Jack meeting Pitch and the others would have been *very* interesting. Rating: 7/10 Eat a twinkie Jack you’ll feel better.

The final design! I can’t complain much about this one. The way his staff subtly has a G shape and a hexagon(his signature shape) is a wonderful touch. Additionally, the way the frost is gathered mostly where his hand is such an intricate detail. His signature hoodie is iconic at this point so I can’t bad mouth that either.(I can’t anyway because there's no complaints from me here.) Although, I never understood the leather straps that his pants had or their functions. I couldn’t find any colonial outfits that resembled Jack’s pants so its a total mystery to me at least.

And I can’t go on about this design until I mention the snowflake pattern in his eyes

Pure beauty. It’s at a hue of blue that almost looks impossible to have, combined with the electric blue color of the snowflake in his eyes. The amount of detail in this movie amazes me to this day. Rating: One Great Blizzard <3/10

Prompt #8 : “please, just do it with me, just once!”

Summary : Luffy with his significant other, pleading to do a little something for their amusement.

note : I actually didn’t have a really good / cute idea for this, this was harder than I thought, because it’s Luffy lol. Hopefully you’ll still enjoy this. :) + this idea is KIND OF based off a little drawing comic I read here on tumblr by a creator. If anyone knows the user since I forgot ;-;, so I can credit them, let me know!!

Warning : there’s very slight implied 14+ but it’s literally nothing. lol

“No.”

Your flat out refusal made Luffy frown and pout at you. “Whyyy?” He dragged out the end, whining at how quickly you rejected him.

“Luffy, I already said no, stop whining.”

“Why nottt? It’ll be funnn! I used to do it with Ace and Sabo all the time when we were kids!” Luffy furrows his brows at you as he sat up and crossed his arms, tilting his head.

“That’s different! I can’t just do it with you!” Your cheeks flushed as you stared at him incredulously. “Don’t you have any common sense?!”

“You’re thinking too much. You sometimes bathe with Robin and Nami, right? It’s the same thing!”

You choke on your spit at his argument and scoff in disbelief. “You’re unbelievable.” You huff, turning away and going to finish what you were doing.

“You’re a guy, I’m a girl, you do understand the problem here, right?” You exhale, rubbing your temples at your captain and significant other.

Sure, you two were dating, but you haven’t even gotten to that kind of level yet. You were pretty far from it.

“What are you afraid of? It’s not going to kill you to just take a bath with me together! I can scrub your hair and you can scrub mine! It’ll be funnnn!”

Luffy continued to whine and complain to you, following after you into the kitchen, your annoyance level slowly rising.

Luffy, noticing your silence, pouts once more before bowing 90° and pressed his hands together in a prayer motion.

“Please, do it with me! Just once!”

You’d glare daggers at him, your cheeks still warm before you exhale heavily after him.

“..fine. I’m wearing a swimsuit though, and YOU BETTER TOO!” You shout at him, Luffy looking up with wide eyes, excitement running through them.

He’d grin widely before nodding eagerly. “Sure! Let’s go!” He stretches his arm to grab your hand and began dragging you out.

“Wait, right now?!”

“Of course!”

“Luffy, stop moving, you’re shifting all the bubbles in the water and you’re going to make it— LUFFY!”

The rubber male would only laugh heartily at you as he pulls back his arms and sits still for you, so you can finish scrubbing his hair.

“Shishishi~ sorry [Name]. Look at all the bubbles though!” He says, pointing at the moving bubbles in the water.

You’d only sigh and soften your expression slightly, nodding at him. “Yeah.”

As much as you didn’t like the idea of bathing with Luffy, being significant others or not, you actually didn’t mind it that bad.

Admittedly, you were enjoying yourself.

Luffy, fortunately listened to you, and wore swim trunks before he came in. You were in your bathing suit, both sitting in the warm bath together now.

Making sure it was fully scrubbed up with soap, you pull your hands away from Luffy’s head of hair and smile slightly. “I’m done, Luffy.”

Luffy pulls away and smiles at you, nodding. “Let me do you now!” About to protest, Luffy already inserted some shampoo onto his hand and waited patiently for you, making you sigh once more in defeat before turning around so your backed faced him.

“Thanks for joining me in my bath, [Name]!” Luffy grins, started to soap up your hair and scrub it. It was a bit of a sloppy mess, but he did his best.

“Sure, Luffy. I’m actually enjoying myself... maybe we can do this again.” You say softly, smiling a bit to yourself as you close your eyes.

Luffy’s smile softens itself as he continued to wash your hair, his mind reminiscing in memories of Ace and Sabo a bit.

“I hope we do this more often... Ace, Sabo and I used to do it all the time.” Luffy mumbles quietly to himself, his smile becoming sadder as he thought about his brothers.

Hearing the sadness in his voice, you slowly pull away and turn, confusing Luffy. “E-Eh, I’m not done, [Name].”

You don’t say anything, just turning to face him before smiling brightly and reach up to his still shampooed and soapy hair, messing with it and bringing the bubbles up.

Luffy would be confused before finally seeing what you did to his hair, it being a completely different style thanks to the soap used as gel.

He’d laugh aloud immediately, the sight being hilarious to himself as he’s also equally amazed. “Woah, look [Name]!” He’d change it up and give himself devil horns, laughing more at it.

You’ll smile at his laughter, glad he was already feeling better and even laugh a bit yourself as Luffy goes to mess with your hair as well.

Soon, it’ll turn into a contest of who could give the other the wackiest hairstyle with soap, which results in no winner, due to Luffy becoming exhausted in the water.

“Come on, let’s get you dried up.”

After washing off all the soap on your bodies, you’d step out and wrap a towel around your shoulders, before helping Luffy out and let him dry himself.

You’ll turn to him and smile warmly before heading off to get changed in your room.

“This was actually kind of fun, Luffy. Let’s do it again next time.”

Sirius x Reader

Warnings: Probably some language

Part 2 out of 3

You were sitting on the bed staring at the wall when your friends came in.

“Hey, Y/N.” Lily greeted.

“Guess who’s going with James Potter?” She frowned. “To be clear it's you.”

“You got a date?” Marleen asked happily, jumping onto your bed.

“Sadly.”

“With who with who with who?”

“Sirius.”

“Hallelujah! Thank Merlin!”

“Instead of thanking a dead guy, try thanking Remus.” You offered. “He convinced him into taking me, for some reason.”

“You still don’t want to go?” Lily asked and slid next to you on the bed. You shook your head.

“Nope. I tried to get out of it, but he was persistent.”

“Come on, Y/N! It's going to be so much fun! Now we can really have fun!”

“Come on, Y/N/N.” Lily said with a nudge. “At least attempt to have fun. For us?”

“He’ll probably go out and dance with the girls he actually wants to dance with so I’ll be free the whole time.” You smiled. They both frowned at you. You had no faith in any type of male. “Fine. I’ll try and have fun. Ok?” They nodded excitedly and bounced to get ready for bed. But you weren’t as sure as them. You never would be.

“So she said yes.” Remus clarified with a wide grin on his face.

“Sort of.”

James sat up with a confused look on his face. “What do you mean, ‘sort of’?”

“Well, she actually turned me down at first because she claimed I was only asking her because Mooney told me to.”

“Which is true,” James reminded him.

“Right. So she didn’t want to go. She actually wasn’t planning on going at all, for some reason. She’s going to be here, so why not just go?” He directed his question at Remus. And, though he knew the answer, he just shrugged. “She also said her and I were doing You two a favor.”

“Like what?”

“I’m guessing asking her out was the favor for Remus. But I’m not sure what her favor for you was.” James shrugged.

“Maybe she’s going to get Lily to go with me,” he had a dorky smile on his face as he laid back and stared at the top of his bed.

“Sorry, mate. But no one’s that persuasive.” James threw a pillow at Sirius and mumbled a shut up.

“Hey, just don’t go being… you to her. Alright?” Remus asked. Sirius raised a brow at his friend.

“And what do you mean by that?”

“I hate to say flakey but flakey. She already has self-esteem issues-”

“Wonder why,” one of the boys in their dorm scoffed. They glared at him.

“And trust issues,” he continued. “I just broke the surface, please don;t make her worse. I am begging you.”

“Why would you even suggest I ask her? We aren’t each other's type, first off. Second off-”

“No second offs. Just be nice to her. Ok?”

“Ok.”

“Sirius. Promise me.”

“Ok, ok, I promise. Jeez. Protective much?”

“Very.” Remus answered, making Sirius a little worried and scared. He had seen Remus make that face only once before when someone had made a comment about Peter and always hoped he would never be on the receiving end of it.

A few days had gone by and you had sent a letter to your mum about picking out an appropriate (emphasis on appropriate) dress for you to wear. You had yet to receive a response. No doubt she was struggling to figure out how to send it. She had trouble even sending a letter. You were muggle born so she wasn’t exactly uccumbstened to anything magical.

“So the dance is tomorrow, what are you wearing?” YOu shrugged and set your goblet down.

“Don’t know. Mum hasn;t sent me anything y-”

Hoot hoot hoot.

You three looked up to see your owl, Diana, soaring into the room. With her was a large box which she dropped in front of you and then sat on your shoulder.

“Oh no.” Your friends pounced up and began to take the lid off. “Not here,” you hissed. You didn’t like the looks you were getting from the rest of your table. “Who knows what she could’ve put in here.” They nodded and picked up the box, which was much heavier than just a dress would be. What had she done this time?

“Oh my god,” Marleen gaped at the dress in the box. You had hid your face in your hands and Lily was making the same face as Marleen.

“Y/N, we haven;t even pulled it out yet and its-its-its-”

“Gorgeous! Merlin, Y/N! You are going to be stunning! Look at these shoes and these hairstyles suggestions. And the makeup and the jewellery.” She was practically salivating.

“Mar! Snap out of it!” You snapped your fingers in front of your friend's face. She shook herself out of it and wiped the drool from the corner of her mouth.

“Sorry! Sorry! But my goodness! Y/N!This is going to be beautiful on you!” You sighed and sat down on your bed looking at the mass of fabric in the box.

Maybe.

You finished Lily’s hair and looked at her through the mirror.

“What do you think?” She smiled brightly.

“I think you still haven’t even begun to get dressed!” She scolded, looking at your attire. Sweats and an old tight t-shirt.

“I told him eight. No earlier. Now go get dressed! James’ll be waiting.” She smiled giddily and bounced out of the room to put on her knee length red dress. Marleen leaned on the doorway and looked at you with disappointment as you started to clean up your station.

She had been the first one out of your friends that you had done so she was in charge of getting everyone in their dresses. Lily was your last one before you could finish getting dressed. You looked up.

“What?”

“Nothing. But hurry up. I want to see you there no later than eight sharp. Got it?”

“No promises, Mar. Have a good time. I’ll see you in a bit.” She frowned but went out to help Lily finish putting her dress on. You pulled out your mother’s drawing of the make up she had suggested and the hairstyle you had chosen and set them up on the counter so you could get ready yourself.

Your dress was a simple, straight dress that hugged the top of your body to show off your figure/ The sleeves were lace and it left your back exposed, only with one strap along the top of your back. The front had an identical strap going across your collar bones and dipped a bit lower than you would have liked. Which meant that your mother had chosen a dress where the smallest bit of your chest was exposed, you would have prefered a turtle neck.

The color of your dress was a deep crimson color with gold sparkles sprinkled throughout, making it glimmer. Your shoes were the same style as the dress, and the jewelry was gold and crimson, like the dress. When your mother shopped she shopped hard.

Out of the thousands of hair styles she had sent you, you had opted for the most simple. Hair wavy with a braid around the back of your head with crimson flowers. Your makeup was simple with red and gold and light blush and sparkles. You were glad that your mother had sent easy make up. You really didn't like to put it on yourself but sometimes it was a necessity.

You glanced at the clock and saw that it was seven fifty nine when you had finally finished getting ready. You were going to be late, but only by a few minutes. You took off your shoes and bolted out of the dorm room, through the common room and out into the hallway. You jumped on the banister, like you always did, and slid down hoping off and bolting to the great hall stairs. You looked up at the clock on the wall.

A new record.

You dusted yourself off and put your shoes back on and fixed your hair before you turned down and stood at the top of the stairs. You saw Sirius leaning against the wall. He looked bored and you couldn’t blame him. You hadn;t even started going into the dance and you were bored. You were also nervous as hell, but that's besides the point.

You began down the stairs and the clicking of your heels made him look up.

“I’m going to go out,” Sirius said, looking up at the clock. It said seven fifty five. “She should be here in about five.”

“Ok. And please-”

“I know, I know. Relax, it's not even a date. Ok?”

“Alright.” Sirius left his friend. He spied Lily and James on the dance floor. Lily was smiling, looking like she was actually enjoying herself. That put a smile on Sirius’ face. He felt bad for his friend sometimes. James really had always loved Lily, he was just super immature and didn;t know how to act around her. But this past summer he had really grown up, some.

Sirius leaned against the wall and looked up at the stairs waiting for you to show up. He g;anced back at the clock, 7 fifty-nine.

Where were you?

Not like he cared too much. He just didn;t want to waste his time if you were going to be a no show.

The minutes ticked by and just kept ticking. He was about to go back in, deciding that you had decided not to come and left him dateless when he heard the click of heels. He looked up and his jaw dropped.

You were drop dead gorgeous. Your Y/H/C was over your shoulders a bit and the top of your dress hugged your body in the right ways and places. Your eyes popped and the way you had done your make up wasn’t overpowering, but just enough that certain features popped, there was definitely an element of natural beauty.

You quickly walked down the stairs to him and stood in front of him, awkwardly and nervously. You put your hands behind your back and sucked your lips into your mouth, a bad habit you had picked up.

“Hi.”

“Uh… Hi. You look lovely,” he held out his arm and you took it with a giddy smile.

“Thanks, you clean up nicely yourself.”

The two of you entered and you looked around, giving a shy wave to Marleen who was hanging by the punch table with her date. She gave you a thumbs up and you replied with the middle finger, causing her to laugh and blow you a kiss, mockingly. You were so going to kill her later.

“Y/N!” You looked up to see you were in front of Remus and his date, Maria. You never really talked to her, but you knew she was a quiet ravenclaw in your grade.

“Remus!” You gave him a hug.

“You look beautiful. No surprise though.” You rolled your eyes.

“You look nice too. I love your dress, Maria.”

“Thank you,” she said quietly, looking at the floor. “You look very beautiful too.”

“Thank you.”

“Want to dance?” Remus asked his date. She nodded and drug him out onto the dance floor, leaving you and Siirus alone at the table.

You stood in an awkward silence for a few songs. You had never actually ever been to one of these dances so you weren’t sure how to act or what you were supposed to do. You were also waiting for Sirius to leave the table to go dance with someone he wanted to. But he surprised you by staying by your side.

Finally he broke the silence.

“So, do you want to dance?” You looked up from where you were fiddling with your dress.

“Uh, yeah!” He smiled and you two walked out onto the dance floor. You looked around at everyone to see what they were doing and how they were dancing and tried to mimic it but you had no idea what you were doing. You still felt really stiff and awkward.

“You have no idea what you're doing do you?” He asked half way through the third song. You laughed.

“That obvious?” He laughed and you two kept on dancing to the music till it ended and a slower song began to play. You glared at the band playing. You had no idea how to dance, let alone slow dance. Sirius was about to say something but you interrupted him.

“I’m thirsty. Are you? I’m going to go get some drinks, do you want one? Great!” You literally ran off the dance floor leaving him standing there. He slowly headed back to the table, wondering what your reaction was about.

You were pouring some punch into two glasses, thinking about how stupid you had acted when you had heard the song come on. First off, you didn;t want to embarrass yourself dancing like you knew you would. Second off, the last time you had slow danced was with your father when you were a kid and that brought up some unwanted memories.You headed back to the table and set a glass in front of Sirius and sat down across from him.

“Going to talk about what that was about?”

“Nope.” He nodded and took a sip of his drink when he heard your stomach grumble. You cringed and he laughed and stood.

“I was going to grab something from the buffet table. Do you want anything?” You smiled gratefully.

“Anything you grab would be lovely.” He left you sitting alone at the table. You hadn’t realized how hungry you had gotten. Apparently having a good time would do that to you.

“Hey doll face.” You froze when you heard the voice. You weren;t sure whose it was, but you did know the tone of it. “You're looking a bit lonely over here by yourself. Why don;t we go for a dance, or a,” he put his hands on your shoulders and leaned down to your ear, “walk.”

“I’m just waiting for someone, thank you but I’m fine.”

“No boy in their right mind would make a lovely lady like you wait. Come on, just one dance.”

“I’m fine.” His hands stayed rooted on your shoulders.

“Come on. Someone as pretty as you-”

“I think she said that she was fine.” A familiar voice said from behind. Both you and the boy who had been asking you to dance turned to see Sirius with a plate of food in his hand and a raised eyebrow, looking anything but happy.

“I was just-” he stopped when he noticed Sirius’ eyebrow raise higher. He grumbled something and left you alone, but not before squeezing your shoulders as if to say I’ll be back. Sirius sat down and sat the heaping plate of food in between you two.

“Are you alright?”

“Yes, thank you . I never thought he’d leave.”

“Must say, never thought you were one to get shy like that. I half expected you to punch him like you did.. What is his name?... Albert Killingsby.” You laughed and reached for a piece of ham he had put on the plate.

“You remember that?”

“How could anyone forget that? We were first years and you punched a seventh year. Broke his nose if I’m not mistaken.”

“Yes, and knocked out his two front teeth.” He began to laugh again and popped something or other into his mouth from the plate. “Not to pat myself on the back or anything.”

“Oh of course not.” He paused. “It was an excellent punch, though.” You smiled.

“It was indeed. He was livid after that. I think I was almost expelled. He was some pure blooded creep or something or other,” you rolled your eyes. “Not saying all pure blood are bad. That is not what I was-”

“I know.” He smiled again. This one wasn’t teasing, but reassuring. It actually made you feel more at ease.

You and Sirius fell into an easy conversation full of a lot of laughter. The night wore on but you two really didn’t notice. Neither of you had ever had a real conversation yet the talking just kept going. Soon you grew tired of sitting and eating and talking (More the sitting rather than the eating).

“Care to go for a walk? My legs are falling asleep.”

“Sure.” He stood up and the two of you walked out of the Great Hall.

“Remus! Remus!” Lily shook him.

“Hm?”

“Look!” she pointed to you and Sirius leaving the Great Hall. He smiled.

“Yes!”

“What?” James asked, walking over with two drinks for him and Lily.

“Sirius and Y/N just walked out of here together!” She said excitedly.

“And you're ecstatic because…”

“Because she’s had a crush on him since third year!”

“And he might like her.” James’ eyebrows shot up.

“That's why you wanted him to take her?”

“That and she needed an evening where she got dressed up herself.” Remus answered.

“She was very beautiful tonight. I didn;t know you and Marlene were so good at makeup, Lily. Not saying anything in an offensive way.”

“That's all her.”

“Heh?”

“She actually gets the girls and I ready every time we’re going out or anything.”

“So the other day at the lake when you asked her about getting ready?”

“I was being serious. She has the best style of everyone in the entire school.”

“Huh.”

You leaned on the banister, suddenly wishing you had brought a jacket. It was snowing and your backless dress was just making you shiver, but it felt nice. You let out a sigh and you could see your breath fog in front of you.

“Legs still falling asleep?” Sirius asked, leaning next to you.

“Thankfully, not anymore. That is one of the worst feelings. Just pins and needles,” you shivered from both the thought and the cold. Sirius chuckled and looked out over the Hogwarts ground. “I’ve always loved snowy scenes.”

“Really?” You nodded.

“Really. Just something so calmingly chaotic about them. And everyone dresses in sweaters and sweatshirts, so I never really feel like the odd man out anymore.”

“Why do you dress the way you do? Not being rude, but-”

“I feel better in it around people. Boys, more specifically.”

“Do you mind if I ask why?”

“No.” He waited for you to elaborate.

“Not going to explain?”

“You only asked if I minded if you asked, never actually asked.”

“Well then, why?”

“I don’t like being pretty. I mean… I do, and it does make me more confident but… but the way boys can treat girls because of their appearance is just terrifying. You even saw an example of that tonight.” You let out a sad laugh and shook your head. “I’ve seen a lot of that at home. Men using girls for their looks only to just toss them away when they’re done.”

Sirius wasn’t sure what to say. You had always been so confident in sweaters. Never seeming to be shy or self-conscious around anyone. No fear or anything. And the fact that you had said that you were around it at home…

“Sorry. I said far too much.” You laughed awkwardly.

“No. I don’t know much about you. What else?” You laughed.

“You want to know more about my messed up home life?” You laughed. He didn;t answer and when you looked over at him his expression only said one word: “Yes”. “Wow, uh, ok. I had a twin brother, Nick. I live with my mum who is an independent fashion designer. Um… nothing much else, really.”

“Had?”

“Uh… I guess I got caught, huh? My brother died saving a kid from getting hit by a car. He shoved the kid out of the way but couldn’t get out of the way in time.” You kept your gaze out at the Hogwarts grounds. You and your brother had been very tight and you were still dealing with the loss, it had just happened a few months ago and no one knew around Hogwarts. You didn’t like pity, one of the reasons why you liked to be head of your class.

“I’m sorry.” You smiled weakly and looked over at him, only to see that he was already studying you.

“It's not your fault. It really wasn’t anyone's fault.”

“You're not angry?” You shook your head.

“What good would that do? It's not going to bring him back. And who would I even be mad at? The kid running after her ball? My brother for being brave? The man driving? It wasn’t his fault. It was just an accident.” He kept staring at you and you smiled. “What?”

“You're just… different. Not in a bad way, just different.” You shrugged.

“My dad used to say that a lot too. So did my brother. And my mum says it often now that I think about it.” You creased our eyebrows and thought about it for a minute. Were you really that strange? Sirius laughed. “What?”

“Nothing.”

“Oh come on, that's just mean. I’m not a funny person, so something must be making you laugh. Come on, tell me.” You jumped up onto the banister, regretting the decision immediately since you sat in a layer of snow. You slid back off quickly and he snorted again. You hit his arm playfully. “Come on, tell me.” You said through chattering teeth.

“Not a smart idea to wear a backless dress to a christmas dance.”

“You're avoiding the question.”

“And your freezing.”

“Come on. Why are you laughing! I get enough of that in the hallways, but I at least know what they are laughing about then.” His smile dropped.

“How often does that happen.”

“What?”

“The comments around the school.”

You shrugged. “Often I suppose. Still better than being hit on. I’d rather be called nerd and ugly or four eyes rather than having the opposite.”

“Oh! Where are your glasses?”

“They’re actually fake. I have perfect vision, I just don’t like to be without them, they cover up some of my face and make me look different.”

“I don;t think I’ll ever understand you.” You laughed.

“You’ve been talking to me for a few hours and you think that's enough to understand my intense way of thinking?” You joked. You started to shiver again as the wind picked up. He took off his jacket and offered it to you. “Won;t you be cold then?”

“Nah. I’ve survived worse. Come on.” You took the jacket and threw it over your shoulders, it immediately warmed you up.

“Did you charm this? It's really warm.”

“Nope. It's just really expensive.” You touched the inside.

“Fur lined? Wool? Christ this is an expensive brand.” You mumbled and he was slightly surprised.

“You know clothing?”

“My mum is an independent designer. I am well versed in cloth and styles and brands.”

“Oh that's right. I forgot you said that.”

“Yep. I am very stylish and very good at hair and makeup, the works.” He nodded and noticed a small smile play on your lips. “My dad though, he was a wreck.” You laughed. “Sorry. Saying too much again. Please just get the subject away from me.”

“Nope, I want to hear more now.” You groaned.

“I really hate you sometimes.”

“No you don’t. Come on.”

“Um well… he was a school teacher. He taught at a very prestigious college, that's where he and my mum met, actually. They went to the same college and he was writing a paper on fashion and got assigned her as the designer to interview. He fell head over heels, how my mum tells it at least. She was just insulted by his lack of fashion. He became her new project. Very romantic,” you added sarcastically. “Um… my mum is beautiful. But he loved her for her, not her looks. They were the weirdest couple I have ever met. I came down stairs one night to find them arguing one night.”

Sirius’ heart stopped. You had always said had or was when it came. And his curiosity overtook his capability to keep his mouth shut. He was waiting for divorce or something like that.

“And when I snuck in I started to laugh. They never fought, ever. And they were staging in the kitchen at three in the morning arguing over who got the last chocolate pudding.” You smiled and shook your head. “They ended up sharing it. They were the definition of perfect.” Your smile fell. “He died when me and my brother were seven. After about a year, mum decided that we needed a father figure. She asked if it would be alright if she got back out there and, of course we said yes but… but no one could be our dad. None of them love her… or even really like her. They despised me and my brother when he was alive. They’re just.. Horrible. They’ve aged her. And it's all because she’s beautiful.”

“So you don’t trust looks.”

“If I fall in love, I don’t want to have someone love me because I’m pretty. I want them to love me. That may be naive or foolish. But I guess that's me.” You hugged the jacket around your body again. “This is why people need to stop me from talking. I get way too personal way too quickly. Please change the subject.” He laughed for a moment and threw a friendly arm around your shoulders.

“Well, you don’t have to worry about that around all us. James has his eyes on Lily, Remus is Remus,” you laughed. “Peter’s already got a girl and I hop around.” You rolled your eyes and laughed. But that last part hurt a bit. Here you were finally talking to the boy you had had a crush on since forever, but, then again, so did half of the girls in Hogwarts.

“Yeah, well, doesn’t matter. I’m fine how I am. My friends are pretty and popular and I’m the nerd who opens her mouth too much.” You shrugged. “What can you do? So, now you have to tell me something completely and utterly embarrassing so I don;t feel alone here.”

“Is that how this is supposed to work?” He asked with a quirked eyebrow.

“Yep,” you hummed and started to walk away. He smirked and followed you.

You two continued to walk around Hogwarts for hours after that. Talking and laughing until you had finally reached your common room with (empty) mugs of Hot chocolate in your hands. He had your heels in his hand and you were still wearing his jacket. You had never had so much fun in your entire life.

“Well, thanks for putting up with me tonight. I hope you had at least a little bit of fun.”

“I had a great time, actually.”

“Actually?” You whisper-shouted, acting offended. He smiled and bumped his shoulder against yours.

“Shuddup, Y/L/N.” You laughed and leaned against the back of the couch.

“But in all seriousness, no pun intended, thanks for taking me. I honestly would be in the library right now if it weren’t for you.”

“Any time, Y/N. Really, I had a lot of fun. We should hang out more, if you’d like.” You were practically beaming.

“I’d like that a lot, actually.” You shrugged off his Jacket and reluctantly handed it to him. “I guess I’ll see you then.” He took it and handed you your shoes back.

“Yeah. I guess I will.” You turned and started up the stairs. “Hey, Y/N!” You turned and looked at him with a smile.

“Yeah?”

“Goodnight.” You smiled, a bit disappointed that's all he had to say, but what were you expecting?

“Good night, Sirius.” You left him standing in the common room. Everyone was already asleep, so you silently took your hair out and got changed for bed, making sure to get all the makeup off your face. You sighed as you looked at your self in the mirror. The wet wash cloth in your hands. It hadn't touched your face yet.

“Good night to you too. Who knows when you’ll come back out.” Then you gingerly removed all the makeup from your face and went to your bed for some much needed sleep. But that wasn't how it went for Sirius.

Restless Rewatch: The Untamed Episode 03

Wei Wuxian demonstrates the purple nurple technique of the Jiang Clan

Should’ve Used Trivago

The Jiang Clan’s reservation got cancelled while they were on the road, so they are going to wander around this small inn for hours being fussed about it, rather than trying another inn. Yes they say the other inns are all full but…so is this one, now.

The Jin Clan sends an advance party to fancy up the inn for them.

Fuckboi Wei Wuxian

Wei Wuxian decides to use his considerable powers of prettiness to get them a room. He drops some poetry on Mianmian and brazenly flirts with her before shifting to properly introducing himself and asking for a room.

This actually works.

...until her boss shows up.

Worst Person // Best Jin

Jin ZIxuan is an ass and a snob.

I guess we have to give him credit for having a beautiful sidekick and never hitting on her, given that his dad is a rapist and one of his half-brothers is (reputedly) a sex pest and the other half brother is (definitely) an incest perp. But I feel like it doesn’t take much to be the best Jin of his or his father’s generation.

The Jin folks are snobs and talk about how great their fancy and expensive stuff is. It’s an interesting contrast with true connoisseur Nie Huaisang, who loves everything that is fine and beautiful and can quote stacks of poetry off the top of his head, but is not even a little bit of a snob.

This Tea Smells Like Farts

Ok, let’s talk about generation names in the Jin clan. Ru is the name for Jin Ling’s generation, hence his courtesy name Rulan. The name for the current generation is apparently Zi (子), because both Zixuan and his jerk cousin Zixun have that as their name. Sect Leader Jin Guangshan would seem to be using the generation name Guang, but then names his son Jin Guangyao so…the whole system breaks down.

Anyway, my point here is that even considering generation names, if I had a baby and named it Zixuan, and my sister-in-law promptly had a baby and named it Zixun, I would slap her.

Find you a lover who does not make you feel like this

Jin Zixuan is mildly intrigued by his betrothed, and expresses it by being rude to her in front of Wei Wuxian, starting a chain of events that will culminate with Wen Ning’s fist going all the way through Jin Zixuan’s chest.

Side Note: Look at these young Jiang Brothers and their casual shoulder hugs. Sigh.

Wei Wuxian’s Combat PlayBook

When Wei Wuxian wants to throw down, he starts with smack talk, moves along to boundary crossing, then to direct threats, and then brings out a weapon if he hasn’t won already.

Here he starts shit with Jin Zixuan by complaining at him for taking up too much space and having too many sycophants. Then he goes for the unwelcome shoulder touch.

Having been sufficiently provocative to get someone to draw a sword and threaten him with physical violence, he shifts to formal verbal sparring.

This gets the other guy to back down, because even at this age no-one actually wants to tangle with Wei Wuxian, and Wei Wuxian gets to claim the moral advantage, although he still doesn’t get to keep his hotel room.

They are all growing up and she and Wei Wuxian are both going to fall in love at summer camp, like in a 1980s teen movie but without the virginity betting (presumably).

Meanwhile poor Jiang Cheng is going to be swept along just trying to keep up with events, which becomes the story of his life for the next two decades.

We meet Wen Ruohan. He is boring and he sucks. Also I’m summarizing the Transylvania parts out of order because they break up the rhythm of the story. And are boring and suck.

Lan Wangji shows up and everyone except Yanli, who is already in love with Sir Golden Pants, makes thirst faces at him. Including Jiang Cheng tho he will never admit it. One girl in the background is actually biting her knuckle.

Note: Lan Wangji knows exactly how fine he is. Look at his fucking hairstyle.

He is sixteen years old. The only person in the entire cultivation world with fancier hair is Nie Mingjue, and that’s because he indulges his dìdi’s braiding hobby.

Wei Wuxian loudly stage whispers that LWJ is their key to getting in and LWJ is is like, not fucking likely, person I didn’t glance at yet.

But then Wei Wuxian says a smart cultivator thing about the puppet dude, and Lan Wangji turns around and has the first of many long mutual staring sessions with this boy he totally isn’t going to like at all.

The rest of the evening is a series of tests that Lan Wangji puts Wei Wuxian through. Wei Wuxian doesn’t know this and Lan Wangji probably doesn’t exactly know it either.

First he sends WWX back to town to get the invitation. Yes, go get it. Not your entourage; YOU, talky person who thinks he can manipulate me and is smart and looks...intriguing. Go find it and come back.

When Wei Wuxian complains, Lan Wangji silences him, which is literally the most boss move he could have used on smooth talking Wei Wuxian.

Jiang Cheng is the Better Baby Brother

Sorry, he just is. Wei Wuxian is all about being taken care of and adoring Yanli without actually doing much for her. Jiang Cheng is the one who thinks about her feelings and giving her what she needs, even to the point of arranging that wedding rehearsal dinner so she can be with her favorite brother again -- the favorite who isn’t him, much as she also loves him.

Date Test 1: Can You Get In.

Once Wei Wuxian is definitely gone, Lan Wangji shows up again and collects the entire retinue, guaranteeing that Wei Wuxian will be stranded outside the gate when he gets back. LWJ doesn’t wait by the gate; he goes and waits up on the roof instead of going to bed or whatever else he’s supposed to be doing. Because he already knows the route Wei Wuxian will be taking.

Wei Wuxian passes the “get in through the wards” test with no problem besides a minor headache and bent fingers.

Is that Xiao Zhan’s hand or did they use a double-jointed hand model?

Date Test 2: Fight Me (Lan Wangji’s Combat Playbook)

As soon as Wei Wuxian shows up on the roof, Lan Wangji picks a fight with him.

LWJ fights all the time; he’s perfectly comfortable when he’s fighting and it’s a good venue for him to express himself. His style is graceful and aggressive.

Attack attack attack strike a pose, vogue, you know it.

He starts by going all in on swordplay, but that doesn’t gain him the advantage; Wei Wuxian fends him off without ever drawing his sword. Which is probably the hottest thing that has ever happened to Lan Wangji in his young life.

Next Lan Wangji deploys the pettiness by breaking WWX’s wine. Then when Wei Wuxian starts insulting him he upgrades to next level pettiness by dropping another silence spell, this time with the added bonus of preventing WWX from drinking.

Wei Wuxian’s Combat Playbook, Redux

Meanwhile Wei Wuxian is running his own fight routine, starting with a charm attack, which doesn’t work at all.

Are you admiring the moon?

He keeps trying to de-escalate for the first phase of their fight, until they reach a pause and he reflects that Lan Wangji has real skills. As soon as he makes that determination he goes on the offensive - with words.

He very formally says he’s too busy to continue fighting, and turns away, which is a pretty solid roast when you say it to someone who’s been trying really hard to kick your ass. Then he continues defending easily until Lan Wangji uses the wine against him.

At this point the gloves come off, with Lan Wangji lecturing Wei Wuxian, Wei Wuxian making ad hominem attacks, Lan Wangji forcibly shutting him up...

...and then throwing him on the floor in front of Lan Qiren and Lan Xichen.

Sincere Grief for the Death of our Colleague

Lan Qiren and Lan Xichen feel really bad for their disciple who has been horribly turned into an undead creature. Ha ha j/k

Date Test 3: Face the Authorities

Lan Wangji gets to pick Wei Wuxian’s punishment. This probably won’t awaken anything in him.

Surprise surprise, Wei Wuxian actually passes the Authority test with flying colors. Lan Qiren doesn’t like him, but listens respectfully to his thoughts about the undead cultivator. And Lan Xichen clearly does like him.

When Wei Wuxian learns that Lan Wangji was nice to his sister, his entire demeanor changes, to such an enormous degree that Lan Wangji starts to run away.

He’s not going to let this boy (who has passed all the tests oh no he passed all the tests) make out with him in front of his family like he is obviously planning.

But once again, Wei Wuxian’s cultivation knowledge captures Lan Wangji’s attention and breaks through his reserve.

This Hardy Boys moment is the beginning of their cultivation partnership.

Lan Wangji is brave but is extremely constrained: by the authorities in his life and by his own rigid reserve. Wei Wuxian is brave and is also free. His companionship gives Lan Wangji an opportunity to engage with a much broader range of the things that interest him than he’s ever had before.

After Wei Wuxian has been sent to bed, Lan Wangji stands outside and -- just as WWX had suggested at the beginning of their date/fight -- admires the moon, with an expression that’s anything but upset.

Ask Answers: December 20th, 2020

We’re back again with another set of ask answers. I do apologize for how long it takes to get a response. It’s really wonderful how many asks people send in, but sadly more come in per week than we have time to answer in a week so we’re always getting behind. We’ll keep doing our best to reply to people, though!

Hopefully the FAQ has been helpful in getting answers to questions more easily. It’s got things like how to find certain CGs, Cove’s height, info on upcoming DLCs, and so on.

Is it possible to change cove's expressions in the cgs in the gallery? Or can we only view one expression per cg in it right now?

Right now it is just the one expression. Cove’s faces are made up of separate eyebrow, eyes, and mouth layers rather than expressions that include eyebrows, eyes, and mouths all in one layer (plus there’s extra optional layers like tears and blushes) so it’s tricky to display different faces because there’s dozens of possible combinations. Maybe we can update the gallery to allow changing the expression someday.

Why'd Kyra and Mr. Holden name their kid Cove?

‘Cause they were very young and kind of wild and wanted to use whatever they thought sounded good without any regard for how common it was. Plus, his dad always went by “Cliff” so having a son named “Cove” seemed perfect.

How can I make my MC outgoing/social? Somehow the characters will comment on how my MC is shy but I'm going out of my way to talk to others and be very happy/puppy-like energy

Did you change the Comfort Level of the relationship screen? By default it’s set to “Nervous”. If you’re at Nervous you can still have moments of being more outgoing but your default base standard is being kind of shy. If you move the bar up to Relaxed or Direct no one should call you shy automatically, though you can still have moments of shyness if you make certain choices.

Hello! I really enjoyed the game but was a bit nervous about choosing for the mc to be upset/irritated because I didn’t want a bad ending! But I read that the game doesn’t have a bad ending? Is that for real??? Our Life is such fun game!

That’s true, the game has no bad endings! You’re welcome to choose whatever you want to suit the game to your story.

I want to draw my mc in the Our Life art style but I’m confused about the nose. Are all the characters’ noses supposed to be the same?

The art style tends to have similar looking noses, though they aren’t all 100% the same shape/size.

So Our life 1 has a focus on summer, Our life 2 on fall.... So this means that we are going to get a Our Life 3 and 4 for winter and spring 👀??

Haha, who knows? It could happen, or maybe just the two games will be enough to satisfy people. We won’t seriously consider it until at least 2022.

Is there going to be more ways to flirt with Cove in Baxter and Derek's DLCs or is it going to be purely them? Haha

Cove will still show up at times, but he’ll be a minor character in someone else’s story. You can kind of flirt with him as often as you can give Derek or Baxter special attention in Cove’s events.

I know there's a mobile version but would you ever consider releasing this game on the switch?

It’d be super cool to port the game to the Switch, but unfortunately it’s not something we can do on our own. The engine we use, Renpy, isn’t easy to work on Switch. But once all the DLCs are out it’s possible we could work with a publisher who has figured out how to convert Renpy games to Switch and they’ll release the game for us. We’ll see how it goes.

I’m sorry, we don’t. I can say that there’s the kitchen, master bedroom, living room, a bathroom, and some storage places on the first floor. The second floor is smaller and has just two bedrooms and another bathroom.

Im the step 2 birthday dlc, how do I get cove to wear the crown? He keeps wearing the pink headband on all of my playthroughs 😭

He picks a hat based on his hairstyle. You’ve gotta have the longer, bushy hair for him to wear the crown.

In the moment Escapade in step 2, does someone carry the MC into their room at the end, do they just not remember going themselves because they were so tired, or is it just supposed to be up to the player to decide?

I hope so. I think they’re pretty cool. And I can say that if they met Cove they’d think he’s very charming and handsome, so players likely already have something in common with them, haha.

I saw a post this morning talking about a “Yashahime Is Over Party” tonight and I don’t normally jump on things like this and especially don’t share any of my own stuff but I thought this would be a good opportunity for some self healing after this whole fiasco. Also I think celebrating the end is a potentially really healthy thing for a lot of fans to move on from this disaster so I think this “party” idea is a really good one.

Spent basically the whole day just drawing and painting various Inuyasha things — some turned out better than others. I don’t really care how bad these turned out because for me it’s been a good chance to get the hurt this series has caused out of my system.

That being said, if Yashahime was a person I would still spit on them.

(Descriptions of pictures below the cut— don’t feel obligated to look)

I feel like this diabolical show has been such a disservice to the characters, the story, and the fans. No matter what ship you support, I cannot fathom any actual fans being happy with this series. It is indisputably a blight against Inuyasha, and this shows persistent existence is an insult to this amazing story and characters.

I gave this show a whole season to show signs of improvement, and that is well beyond what people normally give to a new show. The only reason I kept checking in this long was out of loyalty to Inuyasha. But now that this season is over Yashahime is dead to me and I can finally put it to rest.

Onto what the pics are (cos my artistic ability leaves much to be desired and I haven’t picked up a brush/pencil basically since high school— embarrassingly long time ago):

1. Started with InuKag cos how could I not. Unfortunately this was the first one I did and it didn’t turn out as good as I hoped.. plus I’m not used to watercolour at all sooo.. but it’s the thought that counts imo

2. I did The Best Boy Shippo next. I like to imagine he’s off training to be an amazing fox demon at the moment. Used an image from Google for reference for this but didn’t trace it. Turned out better than I expected especially after how disappointed I was with the outcome of InuKag lol

3. Third I tried I redeem myself with InuKag by drawing their baby Moroha. It started as a pic of Kagome with baby Moroha but that failed miserably twice so I started drawing Moroha (around 7 in my head) handing her Mama a bundle of flowers. Like to imagine she was out with her Papa and she grabbed these for her Mama and this was her coming home after a day with her dad. Inuyasha smiling behind her, and Kagome happily receiving the flowers. Also the flowers weren’t meant to cover her face originally but then I just went for it because I just suck at proportions lol

4. SessKagu is endgame to me for Inuyasha. They weren’t always because after Kagura died I made peace and just ended up picturing sesshomaru as single, but then Yashahime unwittingly opened up many possibilities for Kaguras return so now I headcanon that she came back not long after Kagome returned. This scene is Kagura after she’s back and she’s taking Rin for a joyride on her flying feather. Sesshomaru and Jaken (who accidentally came out looking like baby Yoda) watching on. In this Rin has her hair in a bun. I had a brainfart on that but now I’m rationalising it by saying Rin would be a pre-teen at this point and I dunno about y’all but when I was a preteen I experimented with different hairstyles, and I think it’s natural for a young girl to try out different styles and experiment and I thought it was a cute idea to imagine 🤷🏻‍♀️

5. I wanted to do a tribute to MirSan but didn’t turn out like I envisioned.. it’s supposed to be hisui trying to pick up hiraikotsu while he’s quite little and only managing to get it a few inches off the ground. I tried MirSan 😭

But anyway this is my contribution. I also have a little comic in mind that I’ve typed up the dialogue for but not sure if I’ll get around to doing it cos it was mostly just below the belt jabs to Sunrise and I’m not sure I want to keep fuelling this loathing I have for this trash anymore 🤗

Yep, I finally got my new active pen!!( It took longer then I expected since I initially ordered 2 from a pretty good deal, but it turned out they were not compatible with my laptop, so I had to return them and get the right one, but at a higher price, so that was a nightmare.) And another Demon Kid finally draw, and like Xin Yue, was collecting dust on my computer due to having trouble with his design. Meet Ping Fung, son of Xiao Fung and Leng Ren, younger brother of @amnshe-wolf 's Gale, and half older brother of Spike, Thorn and Blade. Here's s small bio about him: Due to having a mother who only married his dad for power, Ping had in a pretty dysfunctional environment growing up, while he was cared and loved by his father and sister, Leng Ren was less caring and loving towards him due to both him and his sister were not as strong as she wanted them to be, and the fact that Ping had trouble with his eyesight didn't help either. Because of this, his mother would often abused Ping behind his father's back, mainly by gaslighting him with various thinks like how he acts as a Demon, keeping him inside the palace when he wants to go out, forcing him to like something that he doesn't like and vise versa, trying to keep him from spending time with the rest of his father's family( Though this one was never really effective) etc. And while Ping wasn't loved by his mother, he was shown love by the rest of his family, mainly his cousins and his aunts, all of whom really disliked Leng Ren. When his father and the rest of the Demon Sorcerers became trapped in the Netherworld, both him and his sister were sealed in a pocket dimension with their other cousins. And after being freed into the modern world by Drago, Ping was actually relieved that his mother wasn't there to order him and his sister around like she did before, he actually felt free for once. He also finally received glasses after having to suffer pretty bad eyesight ever since he was young.( and the fact glasses weren't invented before he and his cousins arrived in the modern world). I'm pretty proud of how well he turned out, it was pretty difficult to do him as I've never really drawn frogs before, and the fact I had to figure out how to make a bipedal child of a quadruped character like Xiao also didn't help. But luckily since I had already drawn Ping's mom who is also bipedal, so that helped. I also had trouble trying to figure out how Ping's back armor would work, I've seen a lot of Xiao Fung children OCs having the back armor incorporated as a hairstyle, but since I wanted Ping to have black hair like his mom, I wanted to avoid that option and go for having most of his back armor show on his neck and have the rest hidden under his shirt( which is why those hump's are there). I also thought giving him glasses would make him stand out from the rest of my Demon Kids and the outfit I gave him since it's a pretty plain outfit.( Plus he, @amnshe-wolf's Araxie and Skylar can now become the Glasses Squad!!!) And I gave him a symbol to represent him( and to fill in the wasted space that was their before) I figured a purple frog with a hand fan would fit him nicely, glasses were an option, but I decided not to. So all and all, I think I did a pretty good job. 3 Demon Kids down!!! 5 to go!!! And so I think that it, tell me what you think. New chapter new analysis

I’m publishing it one more time because it didnt show in tags for some reason???

I put it under “read more” so maybe now.

I finally read translation so I can finally write something about the new chapter. I know people’s strong feelings towards it and I think it’s totally understandable huh

I, personally, liked this chapter even if I think it was creepy as fuck. But I know Jun’s work and how she writes her stories and I know that she purposely made it really uncomfortable. I think this chapter was made to be upsetting because what happened during it was kinda important?

Warning; LONG POST (contains spoilers to new chapter)

First thing - Noe was forced to see some Vanitas’s memories. Of course by Misha eyes, but still it’s Vanis past. And as we know already, Vanitas REALLY didn’t want Noe to know about anything his past-related. He even threated him that he would kill you if Noe would someday try to drink his blood. So it’s opening for totally new conflict. We have two options

Vanitas would come to place and see Noe drinking Mishas blood and it would be horrible

Vanitas wouldn’t see it and Noe would live in sting of remorse and we know how emotional Noe is and it would be also horrible. And this option also has 2 options

Noe would finally tell Vani that he drank Mishas blood and it would be horrible

Misha would tell Vanitas that Noe drank his blood and it also would be horrible

When Noe started drinking Mishas blood he walked into a trap and there is no escape now. Vanitas is going to KNOW this and its going to be a problem, because knowing Vanis past, memories and emotions was a borderline in their relationship - Noe didn’t get a permission to step over it. And now he just... steped, because of Mishas blackmail.

Also the whole scene was made to be creepy - we can clearly see that Noe is distraught and scared and uncomfortable. We can hear his thoughts, we can see his terrified face

He is terrified for A LOT of reasons. A lot.

He is scared of Domis life. He don’t know what is going on with her and she is unconscious and she can literally DIE. Domi is his best friend, his childhood friend and nearly all family he has left. Domi is the closest person to him and he can’t just lose her like he lost Louis.

He DON’T WANT to read Vanitas’s past without his permission and knowledge. Its awful, it’s non consensual and non-con it’s something Noe hates, because, even if he would like to know Vani’s past (what he said back before Gevaudan arc) he don’t want to know it without Vanis consenst and he didn’t push. And now he is forced to see them, to betray Vani’s trust.He, probably, hates himself thanks to it.

He is blackmailed, bullied and intimidated which is bad on it’s own. He has absolutely NO CONTROL over a situation, he is absolutely subordinated and can’t do anything to change his situation. It’s scary.

He is forced to drink blood, which is a really intimate and delicate activity for him. He hates being forced to drink blood and forcing to drink blood, and, additionaly, Misha is a kid. Or, at least, he look like a kid (it’s hard to say his age for sure and how many years their past with Moreau happened). It’s gross, creepy and weird and Noe feels it. We can see him backing away from a fucking kid.

Jun did it purposely. Combine all of it, to made the horror moment for him, probably to break him in front o Misha.

The running thing in Vanitas no Carte is motif of Noe not having any control over anything in his life (even without his noticing). Noe never had a control over anything.

He didn’t have a control over his life during childhood, ie when he was sold on auction

He didn’t have any control over Louis’s death and curse. He couldn’t do anything to save him or to save other kids back then. He could do nothing.

He don’t have any control in general - he was trained by the Teacher to be his pupil. Noe don’t even know how big control Grandpa de Sade has over him and his doings.

He didn’t have any control when Domi found him at Orloks. She just kidnapped him to Altus.

He don’t have any control over his relationship with Jeanne - anytime he wants to talk to her or about her he is interuptted.

He didn’t want his blood be sucked by Ruthven and he didn’t want to Swear.

He don’t have any control now. He didn’t wanted to know Vanis past non consensualy, he didn’t wanted to drink Mishad blood, he don’t want to see Domi in this situation.

It’s a writing continuity. We are being told how little control Noe has over his (and others) life. It’s becaming a plot point. MochiJun knows what she is doing. She purposely made the whole chapter creepy and unsettling. She need us to know that what is happening right now is wrong - not only drinking blood from a 1/4 naked kid, but also the rest. Everything. That this chapter is traumatic - we literally touched Noes trauma, Domis trauma and Mishas trauma over a few pages and panels:

Dominique - we can see how she reacted to Louis death, how she wanted to make Noe feels better, why she changed her hairstyle and outfit, how she hated herself because it was her brother who died, not her. We can see it now - she is depressed, she hatees herself and would prefer to die over Louis. She was easy to catch for Misha.

Noe - we can see that he can do anything for Domi because she is his last friend, his family, last thing (person) he has. He can’t lose her, he is desperate and traumatized over Louis death so he can do anything, even suck Mishas blood and know Vanis past even if he hates it and its wrong for him.

Misha - we can see thanks to his flashbacks that it was hinted he was (if I undertand english correctly, sorry, it’s not my first language) se*//ually abused as a child. He thought his mother was possesed by devil, it was traumatizing on it’s own, but he was also dressed as a girl, physically abused and hit by his mother and used during her “sessions” with clients. Then he was kidnapped by Moreau who, probably, was experimenting on him just like on Vanitas - so Misha was abused again. And later Vanitas killed “father” what also traumatized him. His behaviour towards Noe it’s not really that suprising - its horrible and sad and heartbreaking knowing why Misha is that way, but its logical. It has sense. It’s just how his trauma made him.

Sooo do I think what happened in the chapter was good or okay? No. It was creepy and made me feel sick. But do I think Jun is bad for making it this way? No. I think her work is great, because she actually did planned it logically. She delivered TONS OF INFORMATIONS by only one chapter. Tons, about a lot of characters - Misha, Vanitas, Noe, Dominique, even Roland (he know Misha is one thing, but, also, why he was so beaten up? What happened my man? Who hurted you?) It wasn’t just gross pedo-fanservice some people accused it to be. (even if it was gross anyway och my gos this scene with Misha standing over Noe was frightening, I was just as scared as Noe, I felt like I was in his place and I was looking at Misha)

Also! I’m pretty sure one of the reason for Misha undressing his collar a little bit was for us (and maybe Noe too) to see his possesion mark on his arm. For some reason we, as an audience, need to know this.

But! We also get a lot of different informations -

Domi is a royal guard and is working in castle, so she probably knew Luca before and had contact with him or some other royal people. i think it’s interesting that she worked at castleas a royal guard.

Luca probably likes Domi and was worried about her. Also after knowing she is missing he decided to took direct actions, he is not passive.

Misha has Vanitas of the Blue Moon’s possesion mark on his hand. It’s really interesting, especially when we know that its his prosthetic arm. Somebody tried to cut his arm with a possesion mark and I bet it was Vanitas or Misha himself. Yet it DIDN’T work, mark of possesion is still here, above his prosthetic.

Noe “don’t know anything about Vanitas”. It was an important sentence. It was something that Noe need to know narratively speaking. It’s pushing the story forward, because Noe’s and Vani’s relationship is the core of the story. It was literally told in the first chapter that it’s a story about their journey.

Misha had a lot of bruises on his whole body after he was rescued. We knew he was beaten, but we could also see it’s evidence.

Mishas face when Noe drank his blood was similar to his mother face when a vampire drank his blood. It wasn’t accidental, we were shown his trauma and how it’s affected him.

Next thing I noticed:

In this panel, Misha looks A LOT like Vanitas. Og course he has child features and chubbier face, he has white(?) hair and eyelashes ets, but his mimic, his gaze, how one of his eyes is covered by hair and his words. Its literally how Vanitas’s panel would be draw. It’s really Vanitaish.

We also got some questions, like:

What happened to Misha and how he lost his hand?

What Luca ordered Jeanne? (probably to check out real Paris and maybe find Domi or Noe)

Why Mishas mark of possesions was so important for us to know?

Is that Roland met Misha in the past important?

Why was Roland so beaten up?

There was also one more thing. Jun is operating in her story not only by making parallels betweend her characters (ie Teacher and VotBM, or Astolfo nad Vanitas, or Louis and Domi etc) but also contrasts. The biggest contrast motif on the story are probably Vanitas and Noe thanks to not only their history, but also their appearance, personality, design of their clothes, their height, their names (Vanitas being related to death and vanity, Noe being related to saving and something biblical etc). Their whole characters are made constrast. And so we got here:

Vanitas and Misha are not made parallels, theyre made contrast.

Misha is looking from the upside, Vanitas is looking from the above, Mishas hair is white, Vanitas hair is black, Vani has a shadow over his face, misha is lighted. Misha has white eyelashes, Vani has black. Misha looks calm an suprised, Vani looks stressed. Their whole “atmosphere” is different. Even if Misha is bruised in this panel he looks clean, even angelic, when Vanitas looks... bad, he has dark circles under eyes, wrinkled eyebrows, bandage etc. They’re made to contrast themselves, not to be compared to. It’s the next hint about their role in the story I suppose. That they’re not similar, they’re not the same and there is something basically different about their roles.

I would also like to write about shadow and light work in this chapter, but I’m just really tired right now, soo here it is! My analyze od the new chapter, or, at least, the most important parts of it (for me). I liked it in general, but it was... stressed and I was anxious about this chapter for the one whole day. But in general I think Jun did gods work with delivering informations she wanted to delivere.

rating mankai company based on character design

Note: I will take into account hair, color scheme, sprite poses, mostly outfits that are not from plays or scouts, and memorability. This is half an objective view and half my personal opinion.

Disclaimer: I curse a lot for comedic effort. I am mean because I am funny. No, you cannot disagree.

Spring 🌸

sakuya: you get what you see. a literal spring babey. his hair and color scheme’s a little generic, but he’s mankai’s poster boy, so that’s understandable. speaking of generic, his main pose is just this emoji 🧍‍♂️ his outfits tend to be kinda basic, but any outfit with a mostly pink top gets him bonus points. 6/10

masumi: okay his hair is elite. probably one of the most memorable character design aspects among the cast. his mole and eyes also make him very pretty. love my boy’s dark color scheme. unfortunately, points must be docked for baiting us with the emo fit, then as the story progresses, he starts dressing like the trust fund kid he is smh. 9/10

tsuzuru: i love you tsuzu but. my mans is so basic. if he didn’t have such a great personality, he’d be as bland as untoasted white bread. the saya of a3. his best design aspect is the fact that he doesn’t dye his roots. his outfits look comfy, but not necessarily eye-catching. 4/10

itaru: everyone who starts a3! with no knowledge of these characters has one (1) thought about itaru. sec sea man. so obviously there’s something appealing/good about his character design. i think part of the appeal is his fuck-all demeanor. obviously, his eyes and hairstyle are attractive, but the way the artists draw him gives him an air of not caring, which is also attractive in a way. his dyed tips are also nice. he looks kinda lame when he dresses professionally, but his casual outfits hit. especially the ones with light pink. 8/10

citron: although i’m not a big fan of the “character is foreign and therefore must talk and dress different and be funny” trope in these types of media, his fashion does make him stand out from the other characters who tend to have more basic clothes. citron’s summer, travel, and autumn outfits SLAP and anyone who says otherwise has bad taste. his hair and eyes are interesting, but his overall color scheme can be a bit repetitive. 7/10

chikage: i hate this guy’s fucking bowlcut. fucking salad bowl lookin ass. every outfit is the same turtleneck and sneakers in two alternate colors. his outfits are so plain. only thing i like is his casual outfit glasses. HOWEVER. that’s the point. he’s supposed to look boring and blend in because he’s a spy. it’s a smart design, i just don’t like it so im docking points. stay mad about it. 5/10

Summer ☀️

tenma: im yawning. you think tsuzu was boring? this guy has orange hair and i still find his design boring. that’s how you know he’s basic. he’s got generic messy shounen protag hair. he could be from any property. if i drew fanart of him, people would ask where he’s from. he either dresses like your slightly homophobic frat boy classmate or a grandfather who gets his shit stolen by the asshole kids next door. 2/10

yuki: he has the r a n g e. all of yuki’s casual outfits hit. they’re all different, but cute in their own way. to no one’s surprise, one of the best styled characters. though i like his general color scheme, i’m personally not the biggest fan of his hairstyle. it’s okay, but a little plain at times. but i think it suits him well. 7/10

muku: i love him. muku’s design is what i love about this game. you see him, and you immediately know what his character archtype is supposed to be. he’s the soft, cute boy. and if this was a mediocre series, that’d be all muku is. but since this is a3, he’s so much more than that. he’s smart, passionate, sensitive to others’ feelings, and protective. a3 does a great job designing characters that look exactly like their archtype, but having a much more developed personality than that. getting back to the actual subject at hand, i love his hairstyle and color, as well as his outfits. you can never go wrong with light pink hair. i may be biased but fuck you. 10/10

misumi: another great memorable design. his eye shape and hair style are really unique. his outfits also elevate his design. street fashion is always a plus for me. though sumi’s design is special in the world of a3! where most of the characters are just. guys. regular lookin dudes. i think that outside of the game, his design would not be as unique. 8/10

kazunari: personally, im a fan. maybe it’s cause i have an affinity for blonde anime boys. but his hairstyle is pretty unique and his trendy looks set him apart from most characters, even outside this game. and he has a pretty lovable expression in his sprites. his fatal flaw is that his fits are either a hit or miss. they’re either really cute or wtf. at least he’s memorable. 8/10

kumon: i love that he reminds me of an owl. his hair and eyes are very cute and his color scheme is great. and i think they did a great job making him look related to juza, but still very much his own character. but he dresses like your classmate from middle school that looks like a nike-sponsored highlighter. yeah, he’s the sporty one, and i like the windbreakers but... i cannot excuse his summer fit. also, i find his design a little tame compared to some of the other characters in the game. 6/10

Autumn 🍂

banri: i hate his hair. i hate it so much. i know in canon it’s nice and he takes good care of it, but it looks so fucking greasy. the style makes him look so greasy and it makes me mad. he looks like an asshole. i mean, he is, so it fits. if this dumb bitch changed his hair more often, i’d like his design so much more. you saw this coming; his love for cheetah print is fucking repulsive. BUT, maybe unpopular opinion, minus the animal print, his sense of fashion is not bad. why do yall clown on it. if the fit is fresh, the fit is fresh. anyway, he looks like an ass, but objectively his design is kinda eh. 5/10

juza: im sorry im DEADLY fucking biased when it comes to juza, but he’s so handsome. his hair is a such a rich, pretty shade of purple and his eyes are so mesmerizing. his hairstyle is so attractive. his face is so pretty. yeah his design isn’t crazy unique, but the simplicity just works. im so sorry im this man’s whore i didn’t choose this life... but i can stop being a simp for one second to say that he has a boring fashion sense. i mean it’s kinda hot how simple his outfits are but his travel fit is good-- wait a minute i just remembered the fucking sandals. docking one point. 9/10

taichi: okay shut the fuck up i LOVE taichi’s design. so eye-catching and fun. as i’ve said i love street fashion, and taichi’s lil e-boy fits are right up my alley. that shade of bright red goes so well with his fashion sense, making a really cohesive design. with his main outfit, you can tell he purposely dresses like that to be trendy and it’s so smart. 10/10

omi: im sorry omi stans but his design is kinda,, boring. i legit had such a hard time identifying him when i first got into this game. the scar saves it a bit. but... only a bit. he’s just got. hair. and a dad outfit. i mean his tits are huge, but i don’t think i can call that a character design aspect. kinda forgettable design. i don’t dislike it though, so he ranks higher than tenma did. 3/10

sakyo: im not sure why but i really like sakyo’s design?? the contrast of his light hair and his dark clothes is nice. also, megane rights. even when i thought he was an npc during my first playthrough, i really dug his design and thought he was memorable. i actually cannot pinpoint a reason why. i wish i had more constructive things to say... but upon thinking about it, he has a karen haircut, which kinda dampers my thoughts on his design. i like his moles, but i honestly did not notice them until the game pointed them out. 7/10

azami: azami has a damn good design. i don’t think anyone can deny that. the long hair, the contrast of black hair and bright blue eyes, his eye shape. all very eye-catching design aspects. and the street fashion style strikes again. the color scheme matches well with everything. this review is lame, but there’s really only good things i can say about his design so. 10/10

Winter ❄️

tsumugi: it’s so late and im so tired of looking at these sprites. anyway, tsumugi’s design is okay. i think his color scheme’s a bit limited and his outfits are a bit meh. he has a more respectable bowlcut than chikage, but it’s still a bowlcut and it’s still boring. i think the best part of his design is his eyes, they’re very soft and kind. but other than that, tsumugi looks pretty basic. 5/10

tasuku: tbh, i didn’t even realize that the godza member tasuku was the same character as the winter troupe guy in the game’s opening until the middle of episode 3... yeah. im slow. ooooooor... tasuku has the worst fucking design in the game. yeah i said it. come at me, but tasuku’s design fucking sucks. i literally thought he was a minor character until they forced me to realize he wasn’t. his fashion sense is... questionable at best. i look at that man’s hair and think he doesn’t shampoo. he looks so bland i could dry up from looking at him. im sorry but his tits do not make up for the sheer fucking snorefest of his character design. he’s so boring i won’t elaborate anymore. 1/10

hisoka: ya get what ya see part 2. i like that i can tell he’s the sleepy and mysterious character just by his design, but honestly, that’s a character trope im generally not a big fan of. so i wasn’t thrilled by hisoka’s design at first. but it’s effective. i like the hairstyle with the white hair, but i’m not too fond of his color scheme. his outfits look comfy and soft though. it makes sense, but it’s nothing too memorable if you compare him to characters outside the game. 5/10.

homare: ah, now this is a memorable character design. his hairstyle annoyed me in the beginning, but now i love it. it’s so unique and fun. and i like the purple. i also like his outfits. very classy. but honestly, most of his charisma lies in his face. i think that the pure eccentricity of the hairstyle is enough to put him in the top tier without considering any other element. you really could not find this design in any other media. fuck it. i don’t need to consider anything else. 9/10

azuma: i’ll be honest. im not a fan of long-haired anime men. especially the pretty, flirty types. i don’t know, i just don’t vibe with them. originally, i didn’t like azuma’s design, but now i do. i don’t know how, but i think it’s because azuma is just that powerful. his ponytail makes it more bearable for me and i like the way his bangs frame his face. he just has pretty eyes and face. unfortunately his color scheme is a little too repetitive for me and his casual outfits are a little boring. 6/10

guy: maybe it’s because he looks dead inside, but i love him. i don’t even know this character that well yet, but i think his deadass expression is great. the darker under-eyeline sets him apart from the other characters and i love how he dresses. i think his hair is kinda eh. i personally like it, but objectively, it’s meh. it’s a solid design, but ngl it’s nothing special when i really think about it. 6/10

One Piece 1000 - 10 Confessions as a One Piece Fan

Although we did the Initial Thoughts a week ago (a long week ago, damn) which you can read here I wanted to do something for the official release of One Piece’s 1000th Chapter At first it started out to be ‘10 things I wanna ask Oda that I don’t think we’ll ever know’ but I couldn’t think of 10, then I was gonna do a General opinion post about it, but didn’t want it to come off too negative. So I am settling on a confessions post, which will have elements of these anyway.

So as we have a happy 1000, let’s talk about some stuff I usually don’t get to talk about in One Piece

Note: There will probably be spoilers so make sure you’re up to date

10. Late Beginnings I think the first confession I have to have is that despite being older than One Piece I am unfortunately not a ‘Day One’ fan. In fact I think I mainly got into One Piece around mid-Whole Cake Island arc, before I had of course known about One Piece, it was a ‘Big Three’ anime after all but the most I knew about it was that they had a guy named Luff-y and another called Zorro, and it was about ‘Pirates who can’t swim’. My curiosity only developed when in a youtube deep-dive of anime clips I kept being recommended One Piece clips, and decided to give a couple a go. Most of them were Paradise arc stuff from the anime, the dub voices were mostly atrocious so I stuck to sub. I was happily surprised about the amount of fun and emotional weight these clips gave me, which led me to check where One Piece was as of current and backtrack from there (Ironically I did the same with Beastars). I did eventually get caught up around the time of the Mafia Meeting and I’ve kept up with each chapter since.

9. I mostly still prefer the Pre-Timeskip looks When I first felt this I thought it to be pretty controversial, nowadays not so much. I understand that Oda wanted to change the look for many characters but some of them did feel like a downgrade. I think the ones who got it worst was Franky, I think it’s the bulbous shoulders, Franky was no stranger to body horror from Enies Lobby to Sabaody but I kinda preferred that he still had a lot of his humanity rather than looking like an action figure. Otherwise I think Robin, Nami and Chopper had it bad, maybe Brook too but his was more fashion than design; the women in general took heavy hits by Oda’s proportion design - I mean I get it boobs are nice but proportions are what make them better - but Robin also underwent a skin color change in the anime, who pre-timeskip shaded her skin darker than in the manga and corrected it to match the manga, I think most of us would’ve preferred Robin to have kept the darker skin tone and possibly even the fringe, Robin’s hairstyle (and her fashion in general) can be hit and miss. I go to and fro about Nami, other than the general waist and bust adjustments I think it fits her character to use her sexuality a bit, she was no stranger to that pre-Timeskip, sometimes though I can’t tell whether I preferred her with short or long hair (Short was definitely better on Nojiko), I do think though that Oda could have her show less skin, she is still very pretty in outfits such as Water 7, Thriller Bark and even her fake pirate disguise in the early chapters/episodes. Finally with Chopper I think it was a bad move to alter the hat, that was a memento from his father figure Hiriluk, it’d be like if Luffy altered his straw hat or Zoro replacing Wado Ichimonji, I do also feel that the design for Chopper’s points while easier to draw don’t look as good, I think a lot of it is the scruff, or lack thereof in favour of smoothness, Walk Point is fine but Heavy Point, Guard Point and Horn Point seem less threatening, Monster Point especially too, in Enies Lobby he looked like a cave painting of menace and destruction, now he’s smoother and his scruff lighter so it’s not as good. The rest of the designs I’m quite fine with though.

8. I wish some markings stuck as well Tattoos and Scars seem to be optional in the One Piece world sometimes, unless it’s branded in molten heat like the Dragon’s hoof, Sun Pirates logo or an attack from Sakazuki. While Nami’s redesigned tattoo has stuck around and Luffy and Zoro’s scars persist, they are mainly character reminders/mysteries for huge moments in the story, and I kinda wish that some of the Straw Hats had littler markings, not just scars either. For instance, the Alabasta X on the arm, I really wish that stayed on each of the Alabasta characters’ arms since it was a symbol of friendship with Vivi, I also wish that Luffy kept the 3D2Y mark on his arm. In terms of scars though it would’ve been nice to see the characters a bit more battle-worn; Zoro’s ankle scars from Mr. 3 have faded and frankly he should be covered in little and long scratches given his fights with Mr. 1 and 2 years of Mihawk Training, Nami’s shoulder scar is hidden completely by her tattoo and she has no scars on her hand (from fake stabbing Usopp) or foot (from blocking Miss Doublefinger), Usopp himself could’ve used some small scratches because lord knows how there’s even still bones in his nose plus he was in murder island for 2 years, Chopper could at least have a small bald patch from when his shoulder was impaled and burned by Shura’s fire lance too, other than that there’s just Jimbei’s potentially missing shoulder scar from Marineford, though Oda has kept it obscured a lot so maybe that is still there. I understand why Oda doesn’t or forgets to, but it would’ve been nice if we lived in a vacuum of no time limits and whatnot.

7. Dead End Adventure is my favourite One Piece film I don’t know what it is, but Dead End Adventure just gives me the most fun out of the One Piece films. It has a good side plot and the side character Shuraiya was a blast of a character. Granted, Gaspard wasn’t too good of a villain side for actually harming the straw hat and his defeat was a bit underwhelming but the race, the settings it was all fun. It is not to say I don’t enjoy any other One Piece movies, I delight in the horror fuel of Baron Omatsuri - and that killer final punch - and Z’s tragic tale of a fallen marine, Strong World has that epic entrance to the party and Stampede also had some great team up moments and fantastic writing for Usopp and Smoker but Dead End Adventure always feels like the movie I could watch in any mood.

6. Skypeia and Fishman Island are some of my favourite arcs While I can understand the criticism of the Long Ring Long Land arc (especially since the anime dragged out the Davy Back Fight) it surprised me that people found Skypeia and Fishman Island arcs to be boring or less entertaining than previous arcs. Everyone has their preferences of course but I felt that Skypeia and Fishman Island were very powerful arcs especially with the theme of racism. Both had glorious setting design different to the common customs of the world we had seen, Oda made both Skypeia and Fishman Island feel very much lived in with its own budding culture and prejudices, with a villain who was dead set on destroying everything just to have their way. With Enel and his priests we were able to push several characters to newer limits, with Robin showing her fighting capabilities, Zoro learning his projectile slashes, Chopper having to endure fighting 3 priests and even Usopp growing all the more braver in the face of seemingly indestructible opponents and later gaining access to the dials. With Fishman Island it was different because it was basically a ‘flex arc’: where the main villain is meant to be a stepping stone rather than a threat but even then the symbolism of the enemy is what’s significant with them, the inherited hatred of humans. But at the same time we do learn new strengths from the crew; Red Hawk, the use of armament Haki, Skywalk, Hell Memories, Franky Shogun, Usopp’s pop greens, Nami’s weather eggs, Brook’s Soul Solid and his new DF power (which is possibly an awakening), as well as the first true steps of Jimbei joining the crew. The biggest strength of both arcs is the flashback as well, like Wano would in present time both arcs demonstrated that Oda can carry a story without his main characters and still keep it as captivating as ever, be it the friendship of Noland and Calgara, the tragedies of Otohime and Fisher Tiger or the life of Kozuki Oden and the man who would be Pirate King. And the impact of Fishman Island and Skypeia’s flashbacks both come back around in Dressrosa with the dwarves and Koala, and Fishman Island really does kick off the whole Yonko saga with Luffy challenging Big Mom, these arcs were definitely significant as they were entertaining with silly faces, strong fights, challenging themes, lorebuilding, good side characters and unique twists. And the overall message of healing from the past is still significant to this day. Through Wyper’s sacrifice and the Bell ringing to Jimbei giving blood and the Ryugu royals wanting to attend the Reverie, it is all very powerful stuff and while the arcs are similar in nature its their similarities that make me love them. Also the cover stories with Enel and Gedatsu on their own mini adventures are fun

5. I really want to know where Ghin is Ghin/Gin was such an interesting character in Baratie. Given that this was right before Arlong Park too so we had not seen a character conflict with different loyalties in One Piece until then, his gratitude to Sanji against his loyalty to Krieg created a fantastically complex character, but then he left and we didn’t hear about him ever since. Did he survive Krieg’s poison gas? Is he still with Krieg? One reactor of the episode said “maybe he’ll become the next Don” which was a concept I kinda really liked. The guy was pretty strong given that he had bested Sanji at that time, and since he didn’t appear in a cover story my mind does wonder. It’s not just Ghin either, a lot of the early East Blue characters kinda fell off the map; where is Morgan? Last we saw he was sleeping as he sailed past Jango, where is Kuro? For someone wanting to resume piracy after some years off he has been very quiet, where is Krieg? Only Arlong and Morgan were arrested and the latter escaped so the rest of these characters are a mystery. Recently in Wano I am still wondering where Law’s crew that he brought to Onigashima went, as well as Caribou - where is that slippery bugger?

4. Basil Hawkins is probably one of my Top 5 Supernova There’s something about that dude I gravitate towards, which makes it quite frustrating when the anime decides to add extra malice and creepy faces to him. Hawkins in Wano is still a victim, if anything he is simply a prisoner with better working conditions, if he thought he could survive escaping Kaido he would but he doesn’t so he won’t, he’s also gonna feel sore about Drake betraying him and letting Law cut him up, so it annoys me that Hawkins is seen like a villain. Not only does he have an extremely interesting Devil Fruit and creativity with it but he’s also audaciously confident in his fortunetelling, even Luffy ran from Kizaru at Sabaody while Hawkins looked at his cards while Kizaru was about to boot him to holy hell and said ‘nah I’m not dying today’, you gotta respect that moxie. At the same time though as a pirate he has that shades of grey element, he’s okay with letting some of his crew be disposable and we don’t even know to what end, he doesn’t look like a guy too concerned about being Pirate King or having riches. I also get a good laugh in that his hobbies are interior design, it makes me really want to see what the inside of his ship looks like. I think as a top 5, I have Luffy, Zoro, Law, Hawkins and then Kid, Bege, Killer and Bonney are not far behind with Apoo dead last because fuck Apoo. Kid and Killer are cool but I do feel like they need a bit more character, Bege earned some points in being funny and his care for his family in WCI and then there’s Bonney - I really hope we dig into Bonney’s significance, she feels really important and that mystery keeps her fresh whenever we see her. Drake too has only really started to become interesting because of SWORD, we could still see more fleshing but for now he is like bottom 3. It’s a shame Urouge has to be so low, he’s not bad but he’s not spectacular either, gotta admire his hobby of lovemaking though, you do you Urouge.

3. I don’t think that either of the ‘Most Beautiful Women in the World’ are the Most Beautiful Women in One Piece The in-world consensus seems to be that the Most Beautiful Women in the World are Boa Hancock, Komurasaki and Shirahoshi, and granted they are very pretty, but the most? Not for me. I mean, y’all know that Nico Robin, Nami and Vinsmoke Reiju exist right? Makino as well is stunning, as are Tashigi, Bonney, Margaret, Ishilly, Nojiko, Vivi, Rebecca, Pudding, Perona, Cosette and I’m sure a few others, realistically I think they could all give them a run for their money. I get how for those three their beauty is a plot point (Boa it’s drilling home Luffy’s obliviousness to it, Komurasaki it’s the swerve of her not being awful and for Shirahoshi it’s due to Vander Decken IX pulling the creep factor on her) but it would’ve worked the same way without the ‘world’ hyperbole I think. As much as Oda is iffy with proportions and rarely writes women with as much attention as the boys he sure knows how to make them attractive.

Some of my favourite individual Straw Hat scenes aren’t in Canon If I were to have a top 5 moments of each character, it may surprise you that some of it comes from movies or filler episodes, particularly Sanji’s flexing on Jessica in the G8 Arc (in fact, Jonathon is one of my favourite marines, T-Bone is in there too, but I don’t have room to fit that). Some are of course obvious because of how iconic they are but it does go to show that sometimes filler isn’t all bad. 1. I’ve learned quite a lot due to One Piece Since my fascination started with a deep dive of checks, I did start to learn a hell of a lot more not just about the franchise itself (you know it’s almost catching up BATMAN on total sales, which has been around more than 3 times longer?) but I also learned a lot about stuff Oda has used as a reference key; folklore, actual pirates, actual practices, the amount of detail Oda puts in is astounding. Which does lean into another thing I’ve learned, One Piece has changed the way I approach some of my ideas for writings and whatnot, before I would be afraid of either spoonfeeding or being too vague, Oda’s mastery not only in storytelling but character development, character quality and pacing has both helped and intimidated me a lot of times, I mean consider this: it took hundreds of chapters to get a proper backstory on Luffy, the main character, how unprecedented is that? Often I could fall into the trap of making sure you knew everything about the main character from day one but now I wonder about what’s necessary for the now and what can I work on. Another thing that both inspires and intimidates me is his drawing, I suck at colours and still do, and a lot of Oda’s attention to detail is incredible considering he’s gotta whip that out on the weekly, but at the same time you see some of his rough sketches and they’re pretty similar to a rough sketch of my own, so in a way it’s a ‘there’s still hope for you’ moment seeing those. I can’t say I’ve learned Japanese from listening to One Piece, but I have picked up on some stuff, some hiragana there, some phonetics here, I also appreciated some of the stuff kaizokuou-ni-naru does (I won’t tag them in case that’s a bit rude to do it out of the blue but check out their tumblr) when it came to deciphering the Japanese of chapters and the little puns and hints Oda puts in his native tongue. And of course any One Piece fan has learned one thing above all else: Patience. Oda himself included, it took over 20 years to get to 1000 chapters and we still have plenty of questions to ask, plenty of islands to see and thus plenty of chapters to go. So Straw Hats off to you Oda, and a happy 1000th!

yes, no one asked for my opinions, yes I will give them anyway, yes because I have decided making a bunch of meaningless decisions and arguing for them will improve my mental state, yes I watched the show all in one very sleep deprived go and i’m not interested in rewatching it so yes I have absolutely no sources, yes this is a really long grammatical nightmare because I don’ t know how to be succinct and i use way more words than necessary at any opportunity because if my point doesn’ t come across exactly like i intend it will greatly upset me, no I have not yet watched Korra or read the comics because i’m tired now let’s do this.

Kataang (looks like a comic book sound effect so plus points)

now I know she’s 14 and he’s 12 it’s a little weird but still

haters say katara was just the avatar’s trophy girl, as if aang didnt kiss the ground she walked on and wouldnt stop telling anyone how amazing she is. Katara was the first face he saw from the new world and they immediately became friends. she was so excited to meet another bender, he clearly is trying to impress her and it is working, he listens to her about bending and offers to take her to the other side of the world to master water, TELL ME at this moment she is not ride or die and she doesn’t even know he’s the avatar, he lets her feel like a kid again, which is a feeling she’s forgotten after years of being a mother to sokka and the children. he literally sweeps her off her feet to save her from the fire nations ship i-. rewatched boy in the iceberg and hoo boy had canon not messed it up, this ship could have been legendary

hard to imagine older them working out what with the whole last airbender, preserve air nomad culture, let’s travel the world bc nomadic lifestyle, what’s marriage i’m a monk without biological family values vs last southern waterbender, preserve southern water tribe culture, I believe in the power of family and am ridiculously dedicated to my tribe, let me go home to my father and tribe shtick, but I don’t care for after the show finishes much except for following the gang fix the world so I don’t really care about the marriage issue

canon was good until that Mess in season 3, WHY did he kiss her after that speech, wish they talked that out properly, wish he learned letting go of her to open the 7th chakra was the only right decision, wish the ending was a little more vague in ships and just left things open but yk whatever

that finale kiss was sweet, they hugged foremost as friends, no blushing, and then got the fuzzies, that moment standing alone? a+ but without any talking about what happened on ember island, a little unsatisfying

overall, fine ship, not my favourite nor do I actively ship it, but I see a kataang moment, i’m like, sweet so I give it a 6

Zutara (apparently fans are zutarians which looks like an alien race, plus points)

latter half of the show had quite a lot of Zutara potential, but idk about Zutara actual

katara was so ready to drop his ass, no way at the start

there is only one dynamic between them in which I can see Zutara working and that is as in the Stalking Zuko by emletish series where katara is so distrusting over zuko she takes to stalking him to make sure he isn’t doing anything to hurt Aang or about to betray them (her) again but he is just such a sweet dork who keeps trying to apologise to her even while she’s apologising to him for being a bitch that she can’t help but start to trust him, i’m a third into the third book in the series not stalking firelord zuko and I am thriving and tbh this is the only situation where I accept zutara, read the series I love it

age gap is weird, I know it’s the same difference between kataang but they made a point of zuko being older in the show also he’s so much taller and I don’t like 16 year old boys with 14 year old girlfriends in real life and so would katara because jet

katara has a bad experience with bad boy sword weilders (jet) but I guess you could see it as the start of her type idk

they are both the moms of the Gaang. sokka is the fun dad.

there is a parallel between their families, with the leader of their people dad, mom who left the picture when they were young, an older brother who is not a prodigy at/can’ t bend their respective element so they become proficient at swords instead, prodigy at bending younger sister with a violent streak. this is why I see zutara as potentially a really close friendship, almost siblings, but not a romance because to me katara is a little too like azula for comfort...

tbh I think a lot of folk shipped it because ooh fire boy and water girl (not the game) that’ s perfect, and bam army of zutarians

overall, kind of weird but ok and good grounds for humour so I give it a 4

Jetkara (bad ship name, why would you like this, minus points)

Jet is bad. yes Katara really liked him, yes he was definitely her first kiss and she would definitely consider him her first boyfriend but they would not define it because it’s easier to manipulate someone when it’s unclear what your relationship is and Jet is bad, with his weird fricking eyebrows and not even real swords those hook swords

Jinko (cool name, reminds me of Hong Jinkyung, plus points)

short but so sweet. not the first thing people remember from watching the tales of ba sing se (brb going to rewatch and cry) but really cute, so here’s a running commentary

his first thought was she knew they were fire nation rather than a pretty girl sat in a teashop giving him looks because she had a crush omg

that honest surprise when his uncle suggested she liked her and then she walked up and asked him on a date, adorable

anyone who looked at that god-awful hairstyle and still thought he looked cute has it bad also aww that hair ruffle and the little grab onto his arm

he’s pushing his food around and she’s trying out ice breaker questions and recieving one word responses he has no idea what he’s doing

“she is not my GIRLFRIEND” he’s not over Mai, clearly but he still is trying his best to be a good date even if he’s terrible at making conversation

anyone who sat through that date and the bad lying and the stilted conversation and still thought he was cute has it bad

he is So Bad At Lying he just told the truth very vaguely and then bam travelling circus

jin so knows the two are fire nation, the whole date she just politely ignores the clear lies and doesn’t react to the obvious firebending, what an icon we love jin

honestly I was really expecting the show to reveal that jin knew he was a firebender if not from the start then from the lights but eh I guess she can keep a secret, good for her

she crushed because he saved her hair from getting burnt by tackling her into a fountain? adorable

I love mai she’s so funny but I think not the best match for zuko? he has a lot of trauma to get over and she doesn’t seem like the let all your feelings out and let’s talk about it until you feel better kind of person. it was deeply ingrained in her to keep all of her feelings and emotions strongly hidden because she got what she wanted from her politician parents so long as she was quiet, well-mannered, and perfectly behaved according to avatar wiki so I get why she’s that way, until I was 11 I was that way too all the time, I understand freezing your face so you don’t look afraid or upset or angry and risk annoying adults, but I don’t think that that would fit zuko with his social ineptness

they literally broke up twice but are just assumed back together? she just surprised him and said they were back together and I think he forgot she existed

the deadpan firelady and the fire lord would be hilarious together tho she got the ruthlessness he lacks

Sukka (terrible name lmao)

the cutest, sokka very excitedly says “Suki!! :DDD” every time he sees her

she didn’t give him the time of day until HE changed, incredible

just the best canon ship, the two nonbenders in the Gaang but very clearly shown to be important key members.

suki is sneaky and badass, rivalling zuko for position on the team as the sneaky badass one (they tie and bond over being sneaky and badass)

sokka is a great dad, he is the dad of the Gaang and he clearly loves suki and suki loves him back

sokka ships are ELITE, 9

Taang (a delicious orange drink mix that reminds me of home, nostalgia)

foreshadowing from the swamp where someone aang loved in the future really made me think taang was endgame yk

opposite elements ideology that I guess is what zutarians like also leaves everyone in the gang dating a Gaang member if zutara happens

Tokka (great name of a small pet fight me)

sokka ships are elite, childhood crush turned adult strong friendship

I really like seeing the rough, tough, greatest earthbender in the world have a crush, adorable

sokka is a great friend and his and toph’s canon relationship is so sweet, I wouldn’t change it

toph was fully going to give sokka a kiss on the cheek for saving her life i’m melting

age difference is too weird for a romance he’s like 16 or 17 by the end I think and she’s 12

convenient ship for kataangers because the Gaang could be paired off as Kataang, Sukka, Toko

her crush on sokka seemed to go away or calm down when he showed up and she punched him and teased him a lot, her way of bonding

similar strict teaching styles and bonding over secret identities as Blue Spirit and Blind Bandit and parental issues and being the children of important families who made them run away to enjoy not having anything to do with politics and being nobility with impaired vision who have never stepped into a kitchen in their lives and being used to servants and then being on the run

I really see them as siblings with her helping him relax from his duties as fire lord because you already know this boy’s sense of honour is going to make him work tirelessly to fix the world and him helping her relax from the whole i’m not a fragile, weak little blind girl, i’m the greatest earthbender in the world shtick and reminding her she can be both a blind 12 year old girl and the most powerful earthbender in the world, she can accept help without being weak or lesser than anyone, people want to help because they care not that they pity you

after a lot of therapy for azula and apologies, maybe a healthy relationship could form after the show, 8 above Jinko

Yukka (looks like a childish insult, surely someone could have thought of a better name)

Sokka’s love for Yue stays with him for the rest of his life, she was the first person to die in front of him and he sees the moon as her facing the earth

love this forbidden lovers content, sokka ships stay elite

Sokka and Yue spend as much time together as possible with secret midnight dates flirting (“you wanna do an...activity together?”) Sokka’s reaction to Yue’s engagement shows that he wants to have a serious relationship with her, and also he thinks Hahn is a bad person for Yue, which he is.

Yue dying devastated him and he never falls out of love with Yue. her last words “[she] will always be with him” are true. swamp visions show Yue as one of the most important people in his life like a season or so after he last saw her. he wouldn’t kiss suki in front of the moon, and cries when Yue appears on stage, ignoring Suki. he talks about the moon as if it is directly Princess Yue in that cactus juice scene.

she died in his arms oh my god don’t look i crying, he feels personally responsible and guilty

yue was great even though she was the indigenous or black girl with light hair and eyes character and I wish she could have helped aang in the spirit world

despite her arranged engagement she clearly really likes sokka even though she knows nothing can happen, 9

Magical Girl Raising Project Limited - character design ranking

Captain Grace

An alright pirate design with enough little details that keep it from being forgettable (I especially like the anchor buckle on her belt, and the earrings and hooks on her hair). The spikes on the coat are what stands out most to me; makes me think of a Mario enemy or something. However I’m not sure how much of a Magical Girl design it is. Like pirates and frills already go together, so the well tested formula (put a miniskirt and frills on it and it’s a magical girl look!) doesn’t really do much. Maybe it’d be better if she had some cutesy detail in there somewhere? Also is that an tail again or what, or some kind of blunt hook? What is it with these unnecessary tails in Magipro designs. 6/10.

Funny Trick

I’ve always liked Funny Trick’s look, and it’s probably because of the pleasant colour palette, unique eyes and two-tone hair (I’m easy to please with two-tone hair). The nail polish and colourful glitter on her fur are also good little details. But apart from that I guess this is only barely strange enough to be any kind of “magical” look rather than just an anime stage magician, but at least that’s pretty close to magical girls already. Also is that a frigging tail again?? At least it goes well with the hair I guess... 8/10.

Kuru-Kuru Hime

It’s a cute design, but when I think of a ribbon magical girl I somehow expected more ribbons? Like this feels like an the higher end of an average magical girl amount of ribbons? Or maybe it’s totally over the top and my perspective is just skewed since I love ribbons and want them everywhere. Either way I like her outfit from neck down, but I’m not that into the headgear, the combo of the bonnet thingy and the weird crown just sitting on top if it looks strange to me. Nice hair tho even if it could use more ribbons. 6/10.

Weddin

I absolutely love Weddin’s design. The muted and light colour palette is very appealing to me, and the dark chains break up the mostly monochrome design so it doesn’t look dull and faded and also give the otherwise super frilly appearance quite a lot of edge. There’s repeating elements (braids in her hair and veil, the same kind of flowers everywhere, flower yellow also appearing in her eye makeup) so it doesn’t get too complicated, and all of them go well with the wedding theme too. The flame... is a bit of an odd touch and I’d rather associate it with a birthday party or Christmas than a Wedding but I guess you can have candles at weddings too, and I don’t find it too distracting.

I’m not a huge fan of the lingerie like look though, but at least visible garters go with the wedding theme and she’s so covered in veils and frills that it doesn’t look so bad. Also the back train looks kind of lazy. But overall still one of my favourite Magipro designs. 10/10.

Rain Pow

A tail again! However this time I actually like it, since she has that rainbow hoop behind her it looks good to stick something through it, and at least it somewhat resembles her twintails.

As for the rest of the design, it has zero frills and ribbons and looks more like some kind of scifi spacesuit than a typical magical girl design, but somehow I still really like it. I think the weird heart hair is just enough to pull it into magical girl territory for me so my impressions are more on the “an unique take on an mg look” rather than “not mg enough” side. Then all the rings keep the look consistent (I absolutely love the rainbow halo) and the suit itself looks alright enough. I also find it interesting how muted the suit colours are for a rainbow magical girl and even the rainbow is pretty pastel, but I figure this is a better choice than all the expected seven colours in all their eye-strainy glory. 9/10.

Postarie

Please put on some pants, that is a shirt and not a dress.

Not too interested in this one, but I find it a commendable effort on making a design on the idea of “postal delivery girl”. Still lots of repeating elements so that’s a plus, especially the back epaulette is such an absurd idea but somehow it works and its wings and the wing hairstyle add the required fantasy touch. Bonus points for the cute birds. 7/10.

Tepsekemei

An inoffensive genie design but I struggle to really have emotions towards it. Butt flower is silly and I have no idea what the things hanging from it are, but at least they’re consistent with her head decoration. Don’t care for the shoulder spikes in an otherwise soft looking design. Huge earrings and multicoloured nails are a nice touch. 6/10.

Also one of my favourite Magipro looks. It feels like the design philosophy here was “gakuran jacket and some frills, and then some hearts. And more hearts! More! Even more!” and I think it’s a great way to go with when designing a magical girl. Using just hearts everywhere makes the outfit cohesive, but since they’re all implemented in different ways it doesn’t get boring. I especially like the little hearts on her hands and under the eye, and the one in her pocket.

Two-tone hair in twintails is also one of the best design elements out there and the hairstyle is quite memorable (and also manages to incorporate the heart motif) and I’m always a fan of caps too. The green eyes and the little bit of green nail polish which you unfortunately can’t see here go well with the otherwise reddish look. Maybe the hair looks a bit too clunky (I only just realised it appears to be tied in a hoop behind her) but I won’t let it bother me. 10/10.

Mana

A solid witch design, I especially love the dimensional cape and hat. I also like the huge collar with the lace detail, but I’m not sure if it works with the hat brim. Not a big fan of the hair, I think it clutters the design. The snake leg accessory feels weird and a bit out of place but I do appreciate the asymmetry and also having something dark to break up the otherwise plain bottom part of the design.. 7/10.

Gekokujou Hana

I tend not to be a huge fan of kimono-based clothes, but this one is an exception I guess. The great colours must play a part in it, and the bottom part is fun. Then the dangly decorations add the correct amount of strangeness so it’s not just a bunny girl in a mini kimono Also, another tail, but this time it’s almost a requirement and I love how ridiculously huge it is (and also repeats elsewhere in her outfit). But really I can’t think of anything to dislike about this, must be the colours and the tail. 10/10.

Archfiend Pam

I believe this is the record on how little clothing you can wear in this franchise... At least she has the personality to pull that off. But that is not a top! At least it’s something new...? The wings fit the description in the story, but I don’t think these blank rectangles look very aesthetically pleasing. I like the tail best, the fur edge makes it a lot more interesting than just the usual demon tail. I don’t know, if the theme is a sexy demon girl this design definitely accomplishes it in a unique way, but also I don’t care for this fanservicey designs. Also not a fan of the hair. 4/10.

Pythie Frederica

Before drawing her for the chibi series I thought she had some kind of a helmet but upon closer inspection of course it’s a veil. But what are the horns?

Upon closer inspection this one is also very fanservicey, in that her “dress” is actually see-through and the only thing covering the critical areas look like thin belt-thingies. At least she doesn’t look like she’s ten... But a major issue I have is the bottom part of her outfit, like how is it supposed to work? Is it one big piece of cloth, or multiple thin ones? What is the “fire” behind her? Is the dark part her hair, or the clothing, and is it supposed to be black or just shading? I do like the stars; otherwise the design gives a more mature “sexy” air, but the little stars everywhere adds a cute element. The colour palette is pleasing, but as much as I like multicoloured hair it doesn’t grant points this time, because the wiggly stray strands look very out of place here and the colour change makes them even more noticeable. 2/10.

Tot Pop

This one really isn’t my aesthetic, I very much prefer the cutesy style and there isn’t really anything ‘magical girl’ about this design. And it doesn’t really evoke the supposed image of ‘pop star’ to me either, like if you remove the guitar I’d think her theme was a prisoner or halloween. Though I don’t really know what a ‘pop star’ should look like anyway, like can’t they wear anything they want, I know Lady Gaga had a meat dress or something. But as of this design, I don’t think there’s anything specifically wrong with it, the colours are pleasing, the details are consistent and it’s not bland or boring either, but it just doesn’t do much for me because of the theme. I like the blood-stained hair and the spiky hair accessory, the long hanging part makes for a nice silhouette. Meanwhile the skulls on her shoulders feel somewhat tacked on, and in general I don’t care for piercings in anywhere else than ears. 5/10.

Pukin

And it’s a tail again. What is it with the stupid tacked on tails on every other design in this franchise? Sometimes it’s not so badly out of place, like if you have an youthful cutesy design, a fluffy animal tail can still add to the cute effect even if it’s otherwise out of place. But Pukin is supposed to be this dangerous and majestic authority figure and a cutesy tail very much doesn’t fit that image. And while we’re on the topic of animal features, the story describes that she has a feather decoration in her hair, but the way it’s drawn as a tiny feather jutting directly up in the middle of her head gives me more the impression of a character whose theme is a baby bird rather than a fantasy prince.

Now that we’ve dealt with the tail let’s get the biggest issue out of the way: I’m aware that there was a time in history when people used to wear these kind of giant ruffled collars but I really don’t care if there’s some kind of history based reasoning. It looks like your head is on a plate and it’s something I can’t ignore. I don’t feel even clowns can pull that off. There is no way getting around this.

When I first read Limited I thought Pukin’s appearance was an absolute mess and an instant 1/10, but upon closer inspection there is stuff I like about it too. She has a good colour palette, great shoes and gloves, and as a friend of multicoloured hair I welcome the yellow hair tips. The big heavy cape balances the small top and pants, and I really like the fur. Earrings go well with the pants too. The theme is a bit confused, or at least I don’t know of any fairy tales about pumpkin prince, but it’s not like I would complain about pineapple or cauliflower princess so that’s not really a problem. 3/10.

Sonia Bean

And we end Limited with yet another excellent design. I like how this manages to look kind of tattered and messy without actually being gross and dirty with the patchwork dress, dustball-like thingies, newspaper clippings and asymmetry. Even her hair looks disheveled. The headgear gives the design an old-fashioned vibe which suits her well since she’s so old. The light palette, soft design elements and ribbons give the look a cute feel, but at the same time she feels suspiciously pale, and the manic expression screams danger, like you can’t reason with this girl. She’s like a ghost of a Victorian era child who wants to play with you but you know you definitely should not follow her.

The design only works if I don’t think too much about it though, like dust is gross and newspaper paper is crinkly and not soft at all, but since we’re magical girls here I can ignore that and enjoy the image the clothing evokes. 10/10.
