sorry to not have answered this days earlier, thought this owed a proper response, since it's a really good (and compelling!) question. these are a few I come back to often, think about most:

one of my favorite, albeit brief, moments in a film is in paris, texas (also) that long tracking shot of travis walking across the overpass, while off-screen you hear someone shouting, eventually travis slowly approaches them, some man clearly emotionally distraught in a bout of mania, and before passing them he puts his hand over the man's back softly as a non-verbal form of empathy, and that always really struck me.

other's include the scene in jacque tati's playtime, where there's these very modern apartments, with four panels of windows (no curtains), and it looks like four different huge television screens, and there's people that come across on a tour bus that pass by, and watch them going through the motions of life (watching tv, having dinner, etc) couldn't explain if i'm solely amused by it, find it melancholy, or what, but it fascinates me a lot.

think my favorite film stretch comes in the last fifteen minutes of thai filmmaker apichatpong weerasethakul's syndromes and a century. a film about loneliness, reincarnation, the changing of human nature over passage of time, and many other things. weerasethakul has mastered the art of making films that have the texture of that headspace right before you fall asleep, where you're no longer in control, and just before you're about to slip out of consciousness...there's a sequence of shots: people in sole white liminal spaces, no natural light, empty spaces in hospitals, all of it really feeling like fleeting memories (haunting), then there's a shot of air being sucked into a vent, the camera slowly pans as the air gets sucked into it (very reminiscent of the monoliths of 2001), then it jumps to a wide shot of a couple at a bench in the park, people riding bikes, old folks dancing, exercising, buddhist monks playing with a drone. the film then ends on a bunch of people doing aerobics set to upbeat music. the contrast is emotionally striking, and makes me feel strangely hopeful, for whatever reason.

This one is so sad and so full of yearning, the whole time you just wish they would face each other sober. It’s so quiet and beautiful.)

3. A Simple Thing – Sir_Bedevere (T, the one where Aziraphale gives out forehead kisses and Crowley is jelly about it. Continuing with the trend of being achingly sad and tender, this fic packs a wallop in that department. Forehead kisses aren’t always given at the happiest of times, after all. Also Crowley continues his stint as a pine tree and it’s painful.)

4. The Problem with Saints – Lurlur, D20Owlbear, robynthemagpie_writes, Wyvernquill (T and G, the series where it’s Catholic but funny. This series is weird and it’s hilarious and I hope there will be more, because this series goes through some fairly niche Catholic saint stories and the retelling of them featuring the Ineffable Husbands is hysterical. I don’t even want to tell y’all too much about it, just go read them and laugh with me, because they’re beautiful.)

5. When The Things You’ve Planned Need a Helping Hand – Proskenion (T, the one where Crowley and Aziraphale run into each other in the 1920s. Flapper!Crowley being a lounge singer is the centerpiece of this one, which is delightful enough, but throw in some canon-typical friction over the Arrangement and a chance for Aziraphale to come to the rescue, it’s a lovely little romp that has just the right edge of emotional tenderness to take the sting out of said earlier friction. Or add to it. Just depends on your point of view, really.)

6. The Serpent and the Lady – @summerofspock (T, the one where Aziraphale is Lady Fair and Crowley is competing in a tournament for his favor. Has female-presenting Aziraphale still using male pronouns bc that’s just what he’s comfortable with, and definitely, definitely has that Disney animated Robin Hood flavor. This fic scratches so many of my itches—Aziraphale in a dress, Crowley being a dashing BAMF, chivalric courtship, swordplay, armor, hand-sewn tokens of favor. A delicious little diversion, very worth it a++++.)

7.  Sunlight and Water – @themoonmothwrites (M, the one where Aziraphale is a flirty drunk and Crowley has to be the sensible one. M for some racy elements but not explicit. This one is fun but then takes a direct left into Feels Town, which, when coupled with @cassieoh’s art, just makes the whole experience dreadfully unfair. A gorgeous little story, and the ending is just *chef’s kiss*.)

8. Sloth – libbyfay (T, the one where Aziraphale checks in on Crowley after the fourteenth century. This one is a delight, and includes Aziraphale recommending The Canterbury Tales, as well as a back-and-forth about depression versus Sloth and a lot of talking around feelings. Must absolutely be read in conjunction with the next rec in the list, which is something of a continuation. )

9. I have an aungel which that loveth me – HolRose (NR, the one where Crowley follows up on The Canterbury Tales recommendation from Aziraphale and it gets a bit deep. A continuation of the previous rec, and oof, y’all. This one gets hella sad, which hits pretty hard after Crowley laughing his head off about the funny bits in Canterbury Tales. There’s also Feelings, which are desperate and tender and guys they don’t even kiss but it’s still breathtaking. They love each other so much.)

10. (heaven is) a place on earth – rattatatosk (G, the one where Aziraphale nearly loses his bookshop. This takes place during the deleted scene from the 1800 opening of the bookshop, and has oodles of Aziraphale building himself a home and being devastated about nearly losing it. Not a nesting fic in the traditional sense (meaning it isn’t about building a home for himself and Crowley, it’s definitely just for him), but for fans of happy Aziraphale being fluffy and content in his bookshop, here you go.)

11. No other news to report – @argentconflagration (T, the one where Aziraphale is torn up about an assignment. Y’all want Crowley interfering in angelic plans? Y’all want tenderness and holding? Y’all want Aziraphale letting himself be bested? Then stay a while, because this one is a heart-wrecker. Featuring a very sick and very devout child, and female-presenting Crowley.)

12. These Things Were Here – @MajorEnglishEsquire (T, the one where Crowley resorts to snake form to deal with his feelings. This one is long and it’s emotional; Crowley reverts down to being a snake whenever he gets especially bad assignments from Hell, and it’s about him and Aziraphale finding balance and harmony between themselves when Crowley is like this. Very sweet and very tender and very sad.)

13. Crossing Paths – @amuseoffyre (G, the one where Crowley and Aziraphale meet every few years. This is your typical “through the ages” fic but it’s Fyre writing it, and that means it has so much humor and heart and history in it it’s practically like reading deleted scenes of the show. The boys are so in-character and their love is subtle and slow-boiling but there. Highly recommended, absolutely.)

14. apples (per the author’s intention) – @lwtis (T, the one where apples is a recurring theme in their friendship. This one is hilarious and it’s heartfelt and I quite enjoyed it; the bits where Aziraphale is absolutely convinced this is a temptation of some kind are particularly juicy (not unlike Crowley’s backside in a certain pair of trousers). Crowley absolutely knows how to beat a joke to death and he does it with style.)

SOUTH DOWNS

15. up in our bedroom, after the war – @rufeepeach (T, the one where Crowley and Aziraphale need to get away to process things. In this one, they more vacation to the South Downs rather than move there, but them working through the awkwardness of Armageddon’s fighting and gently taking their relationship to its natural conclusion is beautiful and good. It isn’t urgent or desperate, just quiet and understated and organic. A lovely piece.)

16. Somewhere Alive and Green – @thetunewillcome (T, the one where they make a necessary move. This one is quiet and reflective, as a good South Downs fic should be, and though it’s short I think it’s wonderfully healing. Very good.)

POST-APOCALYPSE

17. England’s pleasant pastures seen – @squidsticks (T, the one where Aziraphale has an appointment with a book collector and Crowley offers to drive. Y’all it’s so sweet and, dare I say, uplifting, how much they love each other. Someone drops the “husband” word at some point and someone else has a joyful fit over it and I bet you can tell who does what. There’s also a lot of teasing and the kind of easy banter that comes with knowing someone for so long. V. good.)

18. you have built nests from all my bark – @mutalune (T, the one where Crowley is nesting as an aggressive courting maneuver. This fic is so much fun. Highlights include Michael thinking Aziraphale must have a special connection with the Almighty and trying to emulate his lifestyle in order to have one herself, Crowley getting irrationally jealous over it all and constructing the finest nest known to reality (including cupholders, which I now also want in all my pillow piles), Dagon looking for a very similar thing from Crowley that Michael wants from Aziraphale, and lots of delicious humor and unexpected character interactions. I highly recommend this one if you’re having a bad day.)

19. Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance – @divisionten (T, the one where Crowley and Aziraphale find out how to get around Heaven and Hell and it’s through summons. More of an anthology than a solid story, and it’s such a fascinating universe, liberally layered with overcoming trust issues and adjusting to being in a loving relationship, and it’s Good Food y’all, trust me on this.)

20. That’s Not Funny – cyankelpie (G, the one where they’re exceptionally drunk and Crowley says I Love You and Aziraphale thinks he’s joking. This one is sharper than expected but it makes the moment where they finally have everything out in the open so much sweeter. Lots of protective Crowley and very confused Aziraphale.)

21. Stars – @lyricwritesprose (G, the series that’s a spinoff of Tales of the Them that’s about Crowley and the stars, ostensibly. It’s a spinoff bc it deals with Aziraphale’s point of view, too, and their careful navigation of a complicated subject in Crowley’s history. Very soft and bittersweet.)

22. In Action How Like an Angel – PinkPenguinParade (T/NR/M, the series where Aziraphale stumbles into making some useful wards and then Crowley gets taken. Rated high for safety but the violence is truly not that bad and the sex jokes are very mild. Come for cool worldbuilding, stay for BAMF!Aziraphale, and have some extra bits of Anathema and Newt being very good and helpful friends on top!)

23. Let’s share a drink! – @nohaijiachi (G, the one where Aziraphale gets horribly discorporated and gets his body back fairly quickly thanks to quick thinking and Gabriel being easy to gross out. This one is a bit gross, fair warning, but it’s not too graphic, and it’s hilarious besides. Peak Bastard Aziraphale Hours, this one is. If you like reading about Gabriel getting messed with, welcome to the party.)

24. Metastable – MrsCaufield (Not Rated, the one where Aziraphale is having an existential crisis post-Armageddon. Featuring lots of miscommunication, some mild jealousy, and Aziraphale figuring himself out, which is always lovely to read about. Misunderstandings and two supernatural beings being grossly in love, can’t get better than this!)

25. Taking Steps – @joyandotherstories (G, the one where Aziraphale decides he wants to take salsa dancing lessons and Crowley agrees. Oh, y’all. You like pining? You like awkward touching? Do you perhaps like…faked relationships turning into real relationships? You’d best have a seat and dive into this one, because the payoff is many-layered and just phenomenal. The pride in these idiots not only learning to dance but learning to be open about how much they love each other is so good.)

BUS RIDE/NIGHT BEFORE/HEAVEN AND HELL

26. Introspection and Starlight – d20owlbear (T, the one where Aziraphale has a breakdown and is hold. I seem to have a special taste for Aziraphale breaking down, and this one is Hecking Delicious—it’s a slow break but it’s so achingly tender and emotional, especially once sleepy Crowley gets on the scene. Apologies are made and two very tired beings just hold each other at the end of it all and it’s so good.)

27. The Longest Night – @charlottemadison42 (T, the series where Crowley and Aziraphale are taking slow and important steps. Three fics in the series so far, and each one captures their hilarious and effortless dynamic so well while still paying homage to their quiet love. There are so many cool details to explore, ESPECIALLY in the bodyswap fics, and overall they are a really fun and thoughtful look at how the Night the World Didn’t End could’ve gone. Crowley’s character arc and emotional growth as a disgraced angel cursed to live as a snake for a while is fabulous, and it’s only ramping up, so jump on the train now! It’s a good train!)

33. Measures of Freedom – KazLangston (T, the one where Crowley is an acquisition made by one Mr. AZ Fell. This is one of those “turn left” AUs where they’re still an angel and a demon, they just didn’t meet in Eden. Instead, they meet because Crowley gets himself captured and Aziraphale doesn’t think it’s safe to let a real, dangerous demon loose. Their relationship is very combative and antagonistic but it softens; the emotional journey they go on from clear enemies to clear friends is fantastic.)

34. Somewhere Down Below – jane_with_a_j (T, the series where Aziraphale is captured as an incentive for Crowley to jump masters in Hell. There’s lots of hurt!Aziraphale in this one, as tends to happen to an angel captive in Hell, and an excruciating amount of pining that doesn’t so much counterbalance the angst so much as spice it up enormously. There’s intrigue, there’s a daring escape, it’s radical, folks.)

35. How it Happens – @captainqueernerd (T, the one that’s based on a comic and both are DELIGHTFUL. The fic here is an extension of the comic and so sweet, oh my goodness how sweet it is. The best bits aren’t even when they cover the comic’s events—it’s AFTER that is the real treat. I’ll hand out brownie points to anyone who can find the sentence that made me put down my laptop before I accidentally chucked it while laughing too hard.)

36. mors certissima – @northerntrash (T, the Hades and Persephone AU where Aziraphale is Hades and Crowley is Persephone and they’re all doing their best. This is a super fun one, beautifully written and lovely original lore that has Aziraphale really coming into his own as a god of death and what that means for the wider pantheon and the world. And IT’S ABOUT TO GO DOWN where the fic is at the moment, I’m pumped for the conclusion!)

37. It’s All Greek to Me (that is, Ineffable) – @ulspi (UR, the series where Crowley and Aziraphale are cast in different mythological roles in each fic. This one’s gorgeous, you guys, haunting and romantic and each fic has a distinct flavor that is impossibly good. A beautiful way to spend a rainy afternoon, in my opinion.)

38. The Princess and the Serpent – @longforgottenhymn (G, the one where Aziraphale takes Crowley to King Arthur’s court to get a nobleman off his back and oh no, fake dating becomes real dating, oh no. You think you’re ready for this fic? FOOL. This fic is going to carve you up from the inside out and you won’t even be READY for it even if you know it’s coming. This fic is going to promise intimacy and deliver in terrible, terrible tenderness. I am being melodramatic but THIS FIC. THIS FIC IS SO GOOD. This fic is not what I was expecting and it hits HARD because of that.)

39. Wicked dance – pirripipi (T, the one that’s a royal AU with incredible depth and complexity. Listen, what this fic might lack in polish it more than makes up for in flat-out interesting worldbuilding. The characterization is on point and the nonlinear storytelling is very well-handled. And that ending! So triumphant, so utterly joyful. What a joy this fic is! Just wait until you see the Garden of Eden, it’s SPECTACULAR.)

40. The sun doesn’t set on the shoreline – VinWrit (G, the one that’s a selkie and siren AU. This one feels more like it’s being told in microfiction installments and that’s certainly interesting on its own, but it reads like a horror story and it’s chock full of worldbuilding, and the characterization of Crowley especially just breaks my heart right in two. What a great little story.)

41. An Angel’s Hope – @braver-stronger-smarter (M, the one that’s a crossover with the Kiesha’ra book series by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes and it’s delicious AF. Not sure why it’s rated M, but it does deal with a war and the fallout of dealing with constant violence and death. Explains things well enough that you don’t need to have read the Kiesha’ra to understand what’s going on (or, like, if it’s been well over a decade since you last read it…), and the integration of Crowley and Aziraphale into the main plot of these shapeshifter snake and bird cultures is effortless. Can’t wait to see where this one goes (bc even if it just follows the plot of Hawksong, it’s sure to be an exciting ride). (Side note, read the Kiesha’ra, it’s a good series.))

42. By Grace – @seaskystone (G, the one that’s the little soulmate AU that could. Not very long but still highly impactful in my opinion, featuring Crowley and Aziraphale meeting in heaven and knowing right away they’re meant for each other, but canon still happens as it does. Short and bittersweet and pretty.)

43. The Ones Who Walk Away from Nevaeh – @soft-october-night (T, the one that’s the “The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas” AU none of us ever even knew we needed but heck if we didn’t get it anyway. If you aren’t familiar, “Omelas” is a short story by Ursula K LeGuin that I absolutely believe you must read in order to get the full impact of this and what the author does with the story with regard to our two boys, it’s earth-shattering. Soft-october-night does it again, just goes and makes outstanding AUs that own my entire soul like it ain’t no thing. Completely unfair.)

44. Take the Fall (What’s a Second Time) – @triffidsandcuckoos (T, the one where Crawly does what it says on the tin. This one includes a nice helping of Crowley suffering from chronic pain as a consequence of taking the blame for the apple business, and some sweet care from Aziraphale, who is well aware it’s his fault. An interesting take and a heartwarming story (even if suffering from chronic pain is the pits and there’s no way around that).)

45. forgotten (but not gone) – @writeonclara (T, the one where their memories are taken and Crowley and Aziraphale still manage to stay away from each other for about .04 seconds. This one has some hard edges and it is a harrowing story about accepting others and yourself, and having faith in yourself and your loved one, but the way they can’t keep their hands to themselves when all the stops are pulled out is frankly hilarious and I commend this story whole-heartedly for committing to that.)

46. It’s Not the Years, it’s the Mileage – @moveslikebucky (T, the one that’s an Indiana Jones AU based on @yamisnuffles’ art. You want Aziraphale doing his best in an Indy role while still being an angel? You want Crowley owning a bar and it DOESN’T suck? You want pining and heartache and hilarity? Park it, then, folks, you don’t even need to know the Indiana Jones films to enjoy it (I certainly don’t and I am aware of this failing, thank you).)

47. or the look or the words – @taizi (T, the one where they just keep getting married and it doesn’t stop from happening. Guys they are literally married HUNDREDS OF TIMES throughout history STARTING AT THE ARK. They are literally so soft and so in love and I am beside myself right now, please love yourself and practice some self-care by reading this fic.)

48. Give me a title, I’ll give you my heart – @nohaijiachi (T, the one that’s a human AU based on fanart and it’s great. Single dad Aziraphale with a cautious past, determined son Adam who is gonna get his dad a date if it’s the last thing he does, utterly besotted Crowley who is excellent at being gentle and also a great beta reader…a surprisingly emotional and fun piece, very good.)

49. what if you fall? oh, but my darling, what if i fly? – Doggoos (T, the one where they loved in Heaven and outside interference tore them apart. I LOST THIS FIC AND SPENT FOREVER TRYING TO FIND IT AGAIN. The one detail that kept me going? Crowley (as Raphael) and Aziraphale exchange jewelry before Gabriel sticks his stupid nose in it and the jewelry is visually stunning and emotionally gorgeous. It’s emotional and it’s fraught and there’s erased memories to contend with but holy COW, y’all. They’re so in love.)

50. Snakes and Stones (the Crowley/Aziraphale Human AU) – @deerstalkerdeathfrisbee (G, the series where it’s exactly what it says it is. The opening fic for this series is where literally everyone in Aziraphale’s dorm thinks his boyfriend is made up and Aziraphale has the enormous pleasure of proving them all wrong. It has great Newt characterization and, surprisingly, Gabriel being likeable, though he has to work for it. It’s fun and a little silly and I adore it.)

51. in the arms of the ocean (so sweet and so cold) – robynthemagpie_writes, agent_of_mischief (T, the one where Aziraphale becomes a lighthouse keeper and Crowley is probably a sea monster. This is a horror story and it’s a love story and while reading it kept me awake at night, thinking about it also kept me very much awake at night. I am the world’s biggest chicken and the spoop is real, friends, but more than that, it’s the horrors lurking in Aziraphale’s past (and probably Crowley’s, I have some theories) that are the heartbreaking bit. Not for the faint-hearted, it goes hard and I have a feeling it’s only going to go harder.)

52. i’ve found a way (a way to make you smile) – @fremulon (T, the one that’s an AU of The Office. Requires no knowledge of The Office but I’m sure it helps. This is one I kept putting off and deeply regret doing so (though, on the other hand, waiting so long to read it meant that I caught up the night before the last chapter went up, so HA). Y’all, it’s so funny and so relatable as an adult stuck in a dead-end job I don’t like, and the romance between Aziraphale and Crowley is so simple and so sweet. I just love it and I love this fic and I want you to read it immediately right now.)

This one is a really fun adventure, and if you thought me turning the Bentley into a horse in several of my fics was fun, this one beats me out by a country mile and I couldn’t be more gleeful about it because THE BENTLEY IS A DRAGON. I could deffo see the dnd elements throughout but the flavor of it is so unique, I thoroughly enjoyed the adventure and the character moments.)

55. Hell is Just a Sauna – @anthonyjcrowiey (T, the one that’s a “Ten Things I Hate About You” AU. I haven’t seen the film (though I have read Taming of the Shrew and I have been on Tumblr long enough to absorb several gifsets), but this fic was still so good and managed to hook me right in regardless of that fact. I can’t wait for it to finish up, we’re on the emotional crux of the plot and it’s tearing me up how it’s been left!)

Aziraphale needs a date for the office Christmas party, Crowley is available and bribable, and of course it ends in their ruse becoming the real deal, this is fanfiction for crying out loud. It happens so sweetly, though, you’ve gotta see this.)

I have only read the first one, after stumbling on a side-story that was really good and not realizing it was a side-story of a bigger series until I’d finished it. I am planning on reading the rest of the series, which is still updating. I am a little terrified at this titan who has managed to write over 360K words since June in this one series alone. The first one absolutely had me biting my nails and rocking back and forth in an anxious haze, and it’s so tender and so beautiful and SO NERVE-WRACKING. Crowley and Aziraphale learn the Rapture is coming and they just…kinda snap, really. Stop avoiding each other, start choosing each other, and all the twists and turns that comes with it. Just. Really outstanding work, I am an anxious mess but it’s good XD)

70. the commendation – @forineffablereasons (G, the one where Aziraphale’s ring is itself a commendation from Heaven. This one is short and sweet but it GUTS me every time, just over Aziraphale and how much Heaven screwed him over and failed him by making him feel like the failure. One of the tags is “kid fic” for a little bit of a hint but I shan’t spoil it for you, just go read about Crowley being soft.)

73. shed a sweet light – @areyougonnabe (T, the one that’s not anti-holiday so much as a non-holiday holiday fic. That was probably confusing for you BUT IN ESSENCE: Aziraphale has been around too long to get too attached to any particular holiday (plus time passes so differently when you’re immortal), and attracts the ire of holiday influencers. It gets surprisingly dire, and then delightfully Jewish. Has the exact heart that every holiday story hopes for: quiet, enduring love amidst the chaos. A beautiful little thing.)

74. Unexpected Variables – @seaskystone (T, the one where God keeps having to reset the universe. Hands-down the most hilarious fic on the list just by virtue of God’s impending migraine in dealing with Crowley and Aziraphale, who are so incompetent and I love them so much.)

75. Astralphysiastrics – @wortlby2 (T, the one where Crowley and Aziraphale finally talk about Before. This one’s “Before” elements take place in flashbacks but given that they’re a pretty significant portion of the fic, I put it in this category anyway. Guys this one HURTS, but there’s healing in it, too, which is a beautiful balance. Ends nice and fluffy, which is a good landing after the flashbacks are done tossing you about.)

TOUCH-STARVED/BODY WORSHIP/WINGS

76. To Preen a Songbird – @tiger-in-the-flightdeck (T, the one that’s just some good old-fashioned preening, y’all. Prepare for these idiots being silly and bantering and teasing, because the back-and-forth is so good. SO good. So very, very good.)

77. Life Hurts (But Not With You) – Spider_Lilly (T, the series that’s about Aziraphale letting Crowley preen him. This one takes a pretty serious turn and talks about what happens to angels with slightly more realistic-type wings who don’t have help preening. Fair warning, there’s a bit of grossness with impacted preen glands (which are oil glands) and if you are squeamish I would tread carefully, bc it can get a bit disturbing when Crowley has to help deal with them, but if you like realistic wing care, this is the series for you. Also love. Also pining. Also they’re kind of the same story from different perspectives and the one from Aziraphale’s perspective is SO MUCH WORSE EMOTIONALLY. A good bit of catharsis fic, for sure.)

78. Descent Suspension – @onheil-ferguson (M, the one where Crowley could use some tying up. M for shibari but it’s nonsexual. Book!verse. I apparently have a thing for nonsexual BDSM and bondage, because this fic absolutely took my breath away. It’s very calm and understated and dignified, just feels quiet. A beautiful piece, for sure.)

79. The End (of the Beginning) or A Not-So-Nice or Accurate Guide to Sex on a Stick, By Anthony J. Crowley, Demon. – @fantasticallyobscure (T, the one where Crowley has been trying sex with all the wrong people. Not explicit at all, just has a lot of discussions about sex, which can be off-putting but now you know going in (if the title didn’t give it away). Basically Crowley keeps trying sex with people who have his same physical build and loses his appetite for it, until he and Aziraphale finally get their heads on straight and Aziraphale wants to try it. Some hilarious metaphors and a lot of adorable Aziraphale being jealous, which is a trip. A wonderful little romp, for sure!)

80. You Are Unbreaking (Though Quaking) – @lesbianscrowleys (T, the one where Aziraphale works through his knee-jerk reactions to being touched. A very good little snapshot of healing and working through things while communicating with your partner, and there’s a fun side-story about accepting who you are that underscores the main theme rather well. Crowley is so good and patient and Aziraphale is trying so hard.)

81. A Treatise Concerning Religious Affectations – forthegreatergood (T, the one where there are discussions of religious ecstasy versus regular ecstasy. This one involves more or less orgasming via manipulation of miraculous brain chemistry, and it’s a little bit funky, but you get in the vibe of the fic pretty quickly, I think, the writer is good about setting the tone. And it’s adversarial as all heck, this is a legitimate disagreement Crowley and Aziraphale are having and you feel every weighty second of it. It’s sensual, I think, but not necessarily erotic, and that’s a hard needle to thread and they do it very well.)

82. 451°F – @purple-suits (G, the one after the church bombing where Aziraphale wants so badly it hurts. Guys, oh you guys, the pure need in this one isn’t even really sexual but it HURTS, it is so physical and raw and achey. It absolutely put about five more aches under my skin just from secondhand need. Oh, y’all. Oh beans.)

BONUS

83. Chaos Theory – @themoonmothwrites (T, the series that’s about Adam hitting on Warlock in a bar and then reintroducing him to his old nanny and gardener. This one is 1. prime Adam/Warlock material, and 2. PRIME Warlock/facing his feelings and confronting his past and figuring out his future material. I have the weakest spot possible for Warlock Dowling and this one hits that spot like a LOT.)

84. Through the branches there’s a son that’s always shone – @jessicafish (G, the one with a contented Warlock. This one is a Halloween fic that has the softest Warlock and Crowley interaction of all time, it’s so short but it hits so hard and I must thank it for my life, really.)

85. Love, And Its Interference With The Nature of Reality – @souljellied (M, the one where Adam has a big ole crush and reality is warping for Warlock. M for some saucy makeouts at the start but it’s pretty tame. Guys if the fact that at one point the headlines in a news stand all read “TOP TEN REASONS TO DATE ADAM YOUNG” before Warlock blinks and they all change back to normal isn’t a good enough reason to read this fic then I don’t know what to tell you, it’s so delightfully tongue-in-cheek about Adam’s effect on reality and so funny and so sweet, even if it does end on a note that makes me howl for wanting a continuation.)

86. Slumber Party Summons and Aftereffects – @joyandotherstories (G, the series where Crowley gets summoned by a party of teenage girls and has a very heartfelt, productive evening with them. I dragged my feet on this story for incomprehensible reasons so DON’T YOU MAKE MY MISTAKES. The teenage girls who summon Crowley are so sweet and loveable, each and every one of them, and guys they ship Crowley and Aziraphale so hard when they finally pry Crowley’s life story out of him, with help from some memory projection witchery. It’s so good, y’all, so cute and so fresh. Just the best.)

87. Christmas Delivery – Daegaer (G, the one where Gabriel sends obnoxious Christmas cards and they are the highlight of Heaven’s holiday (to make merciless fun of). It should be noted that these Christmas cards all feature artistic renderings of Gabriel himself. I about died laughing and it’s canon now in my heart. I should not be endeared to the Archangels but here we are.)

88. and i don’t care if you don’t want me (i’m yours anyhow) – shaekspeares (T, the one where Warlock is figuring himself out at uni. This one is complex and deadpan and has such a good representation of Warlock and what he could grow to be, plus that excellent Warlock/Adam content I am always here for and Warlock having a complete meltdown over the idea that his former nanny and gardener were sent by his parents to spy on him, but not that they’re an angel and a demon. This kid has his priorities in order. Well, no, he doesn’t, but it’s fun to watch him get there. And he and Adam have the best dynamic ever, it’s full of friction and no small amount of adversarial energy turning sweet over time. This fic is physically healing to read and we aren’t even done yet. A fantastic addition to the fandom, if just for what Warlock does to the British equivalent of the Young Republican student body.)

89. Demonology and the Tri-Phasic Model of Trauma: An Integrative Approach – Nnm (T, the one where Crowley gets a therapist. I know most of you should know this, or at least have heard of it, but pipe down bc I finally got around to reading it and it’s AMAZING. If you’re a human who’s gone to a good therapist or who needs to, this story’s protagonist is phenomenal. And she’s not static in her own journey, either, she grows and heals along with Crowley, and it’s not linear or clean or simple. Like real life, it has dips and turns and bad patches, but the healing is palpable. A masterwork, truly, just real dadgum good, y’all.)

90. I Don’t Want the World to See Me – @coulson-is-an-avenger (T, the one where they navigate an unexpected boundary concerning Crowley’s glasses. People who flinch every time they read about Aziraphale taking off Crowley’s glasses without permission rejoice: we have a fix-it fic for you. It’s tender in every sense of the word, and shows great boundary communication (y’know after the immediate scare is over), and all around is incredibly worth the read.)

91. Still Waking Up – @sleepymccoy (T, the one that’s trauma recovery with lots of bed-sharing and pining. Friendos if you want to feel every inch of that slow burn, you’ve arrived. This fic is careful and it’s emotionally ragged-edged and it’s just so dang pretty as Crowley and Aziraphale work through their separate issues and come to terms with what it means to them to be together with each other.)

92. Borrowed Scars – dreamsofspike (M, the one where Aziraphale finds out what Crowley goes through when he’s in Hell. M for implied/referenced rape and onscreen torture (and like some heavy petting that gets interrupted by feels). This one’s heavy, y’all, heavier than my usual fare, bc Aziraphale is in Hell wearing Crowley’s body when he finds this out so it’s pretty firsthand. Most of the bad bits are told in flashbacks but there’s also the healing part where Crowley finds out and he and Aziraphale have to have a heart-to-heart about what happened and how it’s never going to happen again. Drags you through the mud but then sets you back on your feet, a very good little number, I thought.)

93. Surviving Hell – @whatawriterwields (T, the series where Crowley’s coping mechanism is to shut down and then that coping mechanism becomes maladaptive in the new world. If you’re like me, you’re used to this writer writing the fluffiest creations known to man, so this foray into deeper territory socks like a cannonball right in the gut. Crowley’s healing process is long and it’s slow, with so much aching tender care from Aziraphale it is physically painful in a way. Can’t wait for it to update, I am INVESTED.)

94. Easier than Air – @a-candle-for-sherlock (G, the one where Aziraphale finally deals with stuff. This is a collection of panic attacks, as a warning; Aziraphale’s entire six-thousand-year life is catching up to him, living under Heaven’s eye and knowing he doesn’t measure up, still trying to be with Crowley even though knowing the danger…it’s a lot on a person, and it all kinda comes crashing down after Armageddon’t. Crowley takes care of him, talks and holds him through it all, and it’s so sweet, so freeing to vicariously fall apart through Aziraphale and be held through it by Crowley. Just. Augh.)

95. So Still I Wait – HotCrossPigeon (T, the one where Heaven locks Aziraphale in a void, basically, for three months, and then dump him back on earth for Crowley to pick up the pieces. Guys this one is part of a “hurt Aziraphale” series and it delivers. Aziraphale is his usual soft, silly self all throughout and that makes it hurt worse when he’s suffering, and downright agonizing when he’s trying to recover. Heaven is horrible to him throughout, and Crowley is so gentle and scared, and honestly I don’t know how I didn’t just keel over while reading it. This takes touch-starved to an extreme that booted it from the Touch-Starved category and into this one, because WOW. WOW.)

96. Flaming Like Anything – @thepoetoftime (NR, the one where any weapon Aziraphale holds flames. This one isn’t silly, exactly, but it is hilarious watching Aziraphale flame things like a stick and an umbrella and then absolutely CREAM his foes with them. Never stood a chance, poor souls. A wonderful read, with a surprising twist near the end I highly recommend savoring, it’s too good a mental image.)

97. Love Seeketh Not Itself to Please – @dietraumerei (T, the one where Aziraphale is hurt by a summoning and Crowley takes him to Heaven for healing. This one hurts on so many levels I don’t know where to begin. There’s the physical hurt—obviously—but then there’s the tension of our favorite reprobates being back in Heaven, and a moment where the rug is pulled that is disorienting and just…hateful, absolutely hateful, but in the weirdest, most relieving way. I cannot explain this to you, you must read it. And then sweet, sweet aftercare, because of course. I wouldn’t recommend it to you if there wasn’t any comfort in it, and this writer in particular has historically done excellently with the comfort aspect; this is certainly no different. It absolutely tickled my fancy.)

98. Cry for Absolution – forthegreatergood (T, the one where a miscommunication causes six thousand years of touch avoidance. Guys. GUYS. Crowley thinks his touch hurts Aziraphale and you know what it actually does? It actually hurts ME, personally, watching Crowley misread Aziraphale’s little gasps and flinches as pain rather than shock. Then they fight about it, and things resolve, but HHHNG. THAT PINING. THAT TOUCH-STARVED LONGING.)

99. White Walls and Dead Air – BabyHoldMyFlower (G, the one where Crowley has to physically take Aziraphale away from the plague. This one lands in this category rather than in the Body Worship/Touch-Starved/Wings category is the sheer (DESERVED) emotional vitriol Aziraphale has bottled up in him, the anger at God and Heaven, and how ragged he is from trying to stay ahead of the plague but just not being able to. Crowley helps, because of course he does, but this fic is the emotional equivalent of being put through a wringer. It’s exhausting and it’s beautiful.)

Chapter warnings: None. a demon.

A/N: This was written two years ago (I think) on @phantomrose96 ‘s prompt/situation of a shy girl summoning the devil to be friends with him (and something else that he does but I’ll leave that part out for you guys to have fun with). But I- being thirsty for tragedies- twisted things a little.

Word Count: It’s 5 am. The sugar rush has receded. My eyes are paining but my heart is happy.

"Where do you think you're going?"

"I uh...I'm going...with you?"

The silence lingering in your apartment was chilly at best. In between the mess that was strewn around you- both inside and out- and your life in the hands of the Devil himself, it seemed sane to go with him to find Peter.

But to Loki, who watched your arms crossing your chest, your fingers digging into the skin while your eyes looking everywhere but at him, your body wasn't really ready.

He loved taking his sweet time to see the most minute chill you felt wherever his icy gaze landed.

My oh my!

He had never seen someone be so delicately sensitive to his gaze. That too in a good way.

You, on the other hand, were trying your best not let your heart give out for there was a chance that you might see those eyes again and be trapped in them forever. Not in a good way.

"Oh, Y/N, pet," his voice came as the wind-chime in a thunderstorm, sweet and ominous simultaneously, "you are not going anywhere with me. I will be bringing the boy back while you sit here and think of how not to disappoint yourself and your new best friend."

"...okay. Sir. Loki. Listen, please. I want to go with you because I have to."

"Don't you trust me?"

Your brows wanted to reach the sky along with the silence that came out with your interrupted lungful of breath.

Is he really asking me that?

"Relax, little one. I will deliver that boy to you. He is part of the deal after all."

"Yeah, that's the thing. I know you will deliver him but I have to be there because he is my responsibility. In many ways. So...please, mi-ahem-Loki, let me go with you."

The essence of complete fear stank around you and to Loki's amusement you still wanted to ride with the devil.

"I'm not taking you with me looking like that," he spewed in your direction without so much as breaking his elegance.

You looked at yourself in mild confusion. "But...I just had a bath."

A low groan of disapproval left Loki's throat as whatever ounce of confidence that you had gathered slowly faded away right where it had originated from- in the hollow darkness around you.

"Wait here, I'll comb my hair and...put some perfume on," you muttered.

Your feet tried to find the floor on your way to the room while Loki watched your back, his suspiciously glistening greens never leaving you.

"Minnerva," he called out to the thin air.

"Yes, Sire," her grave voice came from behind his right shoulder.

"Give me Y/N's file."

He hadn't even said the f-word when Minnerva was producing her tablet forward to show him your history while you tried to find something to wear.

"And take some medication while you're at it," he raised his voice just a smidge, the honey-laden grace never leaving his throat, "I don't want you puking your guts out on me."

Loki looked down at the tablet, his expressions a complete blank turning to slight twitch of amusement in his brows before a smirk found its way on his lips.

"Well, I'll be damned," he whispered.

"You already are, sire," Minnerva quipped.

"Right, my pet? This is one quite absurdly unique human who has found me."

"How so?"

"Remember the human form of tides we talked about that we cursed creatures ride on."

"Distinctly."

"She's experiencing one. And looks like I am about to surf right in time for a raging tsunami," he smirked.

The click of the door sounded and Loki's nostrils flared at an aroma he was too familiar with.

"Mmm," he moaned, his eyes closing to let the scent linger inside his head before he had to see the dull humanity again, "Bvlgari."

You scratched an itch on your neck before nodding and giving a muted 'yes'.

"It was a gift," you cleared your throat before picking up your jacket. "Right. So...where are we going?"

Loki watched your jacket, his eyes coming to linger on your face before he sighed and looked around the space, his jaw doing a twist while his hands came to rest in his pant pockets.

"Y/N. Darling," he tried- he really did- to slowly breathe out your name, "we are not going to be scouring your dump of a city. We will be going straight to the boy."

He found the tiny grooves between your confused brows quite amusing- not to mention hilarious.

"I know."

This tiny concrete piece of confidence in your voice pinched him for some reason and one could see him lock his jaw hard right on that exquisite face before releasing it.

"Fine," he concluded, "come closer then, sweet one. Hand me a property of that boy."

Putting on your jacket you took out a piece of folded paper from inside one of your pockets before placing it in those big pale hands, subconsciously getting a touch of that cold skin.

"My my," Loki commented flatly as he unfolded the paper to look at the stick figures Peter had drawn, "putting Van Gogh to shame."

One of them quite closely resembled Elsa from Frozen.

"Could you please concentrate, and let it g-"

Your head registered Loki smiling as he watched you.

"Let it what?"

He knew!

"Nevermind."

Before you could say something more, Loki's hands were already on your hips snaking their way to your back from beneath the open jacket. All the heat that had been gathering inside you, you could feel it being siphoned off by him as he pulled you close to him- too close. You could see every little groove on his face, every mole over his neck, even those peeping from beneath the collar of that crisp black shirt. You could even smell him.

And he smelled something like a forest in snow would- cold, still, crisp, dormant, hibernating, an animal resting, a chilly breeze carrying the scent of the frozen lake and pine trees.

He was everything that death was supposed to be.

And yet was alive within with something inhuman underneath.

Is that what it was like to be the devil?

"Let's find out," his lips gently whispered close to your ears, brushing against every little hair on over your forehead "shall we?"

"Come on. We haven't got all day," Loki announced as he fixed his collar and straightened his cuff.

You, on the other hand, were on your hands and knees, trying to make sense of the blur before toppling over and coming to rest on your back.

The room spun a bit more till it finally came to a standstill.

"I'm fine," you tried to speak through panicked breaths, "I'm fine."

He was right, you thought to yourself, I should have taken something for the... travelling sickness.

While you tried to get up, Loki looked at the paper in his hand before putting it in his inner pocket.

"So much for building a snowman," he muttered to himself, looking straight ahead.

The structure around them looked like a mansion or boarding house out of time, with wooden boards and stairs broken, windows shattered or missing, wild grass growing everywhere. The doors were off their hinges while some vulgar graffiti soiled one of the walls.

"Are we-"

"In the right place."

You could only see one side of his face but this half determined, half thrilled look made you feel like he knew something you didn't. And that was one of the reasons your head wasn't the only thing thumping.

"I can smell the blood and torture here," he commented, quite pleased with himself.

The cracked portraits you passed carried a haunting impression that made you walk faster and lot closer to the devil than you wanted to.

"Pop quiz for you, Y/N," Loki chimed out of nowhere taking up a bit of dust from the frames around him, "what does an animal do when they realise they have done something their master won't like."

He breathed in the air and made what your friends would have called his orgy-face- the same thing you did when you smelled a good old book.

You knew you could not question his insanity so you did what you were told.

"Umm, dogs tend to hide in their comfort spots. Usually in a corner where they think they won't be found. Or a spot they think their parents won't find out about."

You heard a low chuckle from the figure walking in front of you.

Now that does not sound right.

"Winner winner-"

One moment you had been standing right in the hall of the remnants of the huge house while in the next you were walking two floors above into a space that looked like a dining hall minus the luxury of chairs and a banquet.

"-demon dinner," Loki growled as the wall in front of both of you exploded, taking one of you by utter surprise.

A creature in seemingly solid form with slime and scales everywhere on its body and a jaw that opened so wide to scream its existence out that you thought it was off its hinges. Eyes as black as the purest coal bore into Loki while the saliva dripped from its fangs. The incoherent screams felt like they would rip through you any moment.

But Loki stood there unbothered. In fact, he seemed quite satisfied with the unbearable pain that had started surrounding you.

And then it all made sense.

"Loki!" You tried to shout over the screeches of that beast, "stop torturing him!"

"What?" Loki turned to you blankly, and the shrieks died. "I thought you wanted an outing with your new friend."

For fuck's sake...

You turned towards the demon who kept uttering something in a language foreign to you. "Where's the boy?"

The demon looked at you for the first time, and within an instant, sprang towards you with its jaws wide open with every intent devour your bones.

And like an unspoken underlying instinct, you jumped and grabbed Loki's arm, hiding behind him.

Loki didn't move. He did not have to.

"Step within ten feet of her and the only thing you would be seeing is the hellfire I created from the souls you tortured."

His entire being stood between you and the demon, his eyes brought the blood-curdling scream to a whimper, his words reduced the beast to a crying lost cub looking for something to hide underneath.

"What are you waiting for? Answer her," he commanded without any effort, forcing the creature to look between the two of you in confusion before it pointed to the unbroken part of the wall it had exploded through, where a pile of old furniture lay.

"Peter?" Your aching larynx called out for the boy as you stepped forward and walked towards the pile, keeping yourself as far away from the demon as possible, never realising the demon was trying to do the same.

You could already see a pale hand in between the pile from three steps away, forcing a curse out of your mouth and sending you into a scare to quickly move everything away before you could finally reach him and grab his limp body out.

"Peter," you tried to speak through the breathlessness you were currently experiencing, "oh God! Peter!"

You checked for his breathing and his pulse.

"He's fine," your declared, teary-eyed, to Loki.

Why you did that, you do not know.

Picking up the unconscious boy, you carefully adjusted his head on your shoulder before hurrying back to Loki's side.

"One rule, Icarus." Loki's voice echoed through the dilapidated walls and hollow foundations.

You had no idea how he was doing it. He wasn't shouting, nor screaming. But the ice in his calm voice asserted the right amount of pressure you didn't want it to be.

"One. Rule."

Your hands wrapped themselves around Peter's waist, securing him in your hold as you took a step back from the one entity in the room radiating overwhelming gelidity.

"No children."

Icarus, the demon, grunted and muttered something under his breath, never once having the balls to look right into Loki's eyes.

"Hmm?" Loki tilted his head a bit, turning his ear less than an inch towards the demon. "What was that? What did you just spew, you worthless pile of mud-goblin?"

Icarus blinked and moved back a little. You could sense that beast had hit a wrong nerve.

Icarus said something, this time loud and clear.

Loki turned to you, his eyes swirling with tiredness.

Now that was something new.

"The audacity of this bitch," he stated before snapping his fingers.

A flat line of noise originating from somewhere far away seemed to get closer with every passing second, making Icarus wriggle in fear where he stood.

It cried in its incoherent language some more.

"Oh, I'll leave the judgement to those hungry bastards, demon," Loki concluded with a smile that never reached his eyes.

Shrieks filled the room and you could feel the pressure on your back increase five folds.

Something really worse had entered the space and it was affecting you apart from making that demon run for a corner to hide in.

With Peter's weight on your shoulders, you felt nauseous, chilling sweats running down everywhere throughout your body while your legs gave away to make you fall into something...soft.

"You might want to close your eyes, sweet one," Loki spoke softly as he brought you back on your legs, the pressure upon you receding for some reason.

You did as you were told. But not before you buried Peter's head in your chest and put one hand around his ear.

Icarus' lungs burst with the the cries that would have woken up the dead before all went silent.

"Baymax was really underrated."

You open your eyes and find yourself in a room with posters of Baymax, Inside Out, The Emperor's New Groove, and Lilo & Stitch.

On a study table by the window were figurines of Naruto, Sasuke, and Orochimaru.

You carefully laid Peter down on his bed, making sure he wasn't hurt anywhere.

"This kid could've done better," Loki commented as he tipped Sasuke's figurine and let it fall down with a clatter, grabbing all your heightened- and definitely tired- senses.

"Could you-" you nearly shouted before composing yourself and turning down into a whisper- "please shush it. There are other...humans here."

"Relax, they can't hear us," Loki groaned, tipping Orochimaru this time.

You were tucking Peter under his quilt when you felt a soft cold blow tickle your ear.

"And don't you. Shush me. Ever again."

The whisper right inside your ear coiled up all parts of you as his lips ever so lightly brushed right at the edge of you.

Your hands went by the side of the bed to look for support as you tried to get away from the devil while he smiled at the way he was playing your chords. The music he was producing seemed to please him.

"Y/N," a familiar voice called for you.

You turned to look at a conscious Peter looking at you with every bit of emotion through his eyes.

You turned to look at Loki but he was nowhere to be seen.

"I'm here, Pete," you whispered before laying a hand on his forehead. "Are you okay?"

He nodded.

"That demon-"

"Won't hurt you anymore. I promise you," you assured him, stroking his hair.

"That man with you," Peter gulped, "he saved me. He's an angel, isn't he?"

You pressed your lips- not knowing what to tell him- before planting a kiss on his head.

"You've been through too much. Get some sleep, hon. We'll talk in the morning, okay?"

Peter slumped into his pillow and closed his eyes while you softly patted him to sleep.

"Loki?" You whispered through the empty corridor of the house.

There was no sign of him whatsoever. No sounds except for the clock's ticking and the snores coming from the master bedroom.

"Loki?" You called out again.

Nada.

"Oh, Loki!" You moaned in frustration, feeling an icy chill go right through your spine.

Oh n-

"Keep calling my name like that, kitten, and we'll be best friends with some really worthy benefits."

"Wh-"

You wanted to be disgusted by it but you were already being sucked through space back to your apartment and only had enough energy to keep yourself from throwing up as you landed back right where you'd vanished from.

.

"They were sleeping."

Loki sighed as twisted two fingers and the shot glass filled with the Jäger you two had left behind.

"That's what humans usually do, Y/N." He sat down on the sofa in your living room and downed the shot.

"No, Loki," you sat down next to him, "they were sleeping when their son was missing!"

Lokis swallowed another shot and raised a finger.

"Adopted son."

"What?"

"Didn't you know?"

"...no."

"He has a blood relative. An aunt that lives in New York."

"...oh."

You wanted to ask him how he knew that but thought it was better to keep your mouth shut and not land yourself into something you could have easily avoided.

Plopping down into the sofa you relaxed a bit, feeling some part of you feel a little light.

"For second today, I thought his father...his adoptive father would explode at me by the way he..."

Your hand moved on its own to caress the throbbing part of your arm where he'd held you so carelessly.

Loki glanced at your arm before trying to sit back in his chair, moving around a bit, trying to find the source of his discomfort before his hands found it and took out a plushie of a cat.

He looked at the stuffed toy with pure judgement before placing it on the sofa's arm on his side and placed the bottle of liquor between the toy's limbs.

Loki took your empty shot glass and the two seconds it took for it to come to you, it was filled with Jäger.

"Relax your nerves, kitten."

The smooth herby liquid went right down your throat and the swirl came a bit later when you were already three shots down. The beauty of Jäger.

"Why did Icarus betray you?"

Loki breathed in and opened his mouth to speak.

"Oh, Icarus! Now I remember where I've heard this name. Icarus and the sun! Huh!"

Loki's brow judged you with everything it had while his lips basked in your drunken state.

"He didn't seem like the type who'd go and betray you, though. I mean he looked like a two-year-old on a sugar rush, really. Like a child angry at his parent for not getting him something he saw at the store."

"Yeah, I told him not to hunt children once before too-" Loki turned towards you and rested his head on his curled hand over the sofa headrest, looking at you, "-but that was thousands of years ago."

"Then someone else must have shown him the store."

You gulped down another shot.

"Minnerva's really cute, though," you spoke to yourself. At least that's what you thought.

"Something tells me you get quite interesting once you get drunk."

The sixth shot was swirling around in your mouth when your head turned to look at Loki and your index finger went up in a 'first-of-all'.

"I'm drinking to forget all the things you've'n saying and doing to me all night. I'm also drinking to forget the things you would be saying or doing to me later tonight. Capice? And, we still have work to do."

The glow that had come over Loki's face disappeared.

"No wonder you haven't had sex in a long while."

You gasped.

"Excuse me!" You sat up straight, turning towards him, forgetting who it was you were squaring up against, "Just because I am drunk does not mean I will hook up with anyone! Especially you!"

It was Loki's turn to be offended.

"First of all," he began, "donot for a single moment forget you are talking to the devil, you minx. I am unbelievable in bed. I can make you feel all nerves of the entire universe and its galactic charm in fifteen minutes and it will be so apocalyptic that every neuron in your body will remember that sensation; so will the elemental foundations of your soul even when you ascend into a higher dimension."

You gulped, blinked and put your leg above the other.

"And second of all, even when you should loosen up and drink, you do not stop being a professional. Even the devil has some standards, human! I look forward to foreplay and pleasure, not some sloppy drunken sex that feels like work."

You did not know what to say.

I cannot believe the devil is better than so many men I've met.

"I'm sorry," you muttered, feeling weird yet not that uncomfortable apologising to the devil.

The shot glass went back on the table.

"Business first then," he clasped his hands together. "Let's suck that life-threatening force from inside you."

You looked at him, appalled for a second.

"I-uh...I didn't....how did you know?"

Your gut was still not used to the smirk on his lips.

"I'm the devil, darling. If I cannot smell the ever so pungent darkness that dims the everbright soul then who am I, really?"

Your throat let out a hum while your head nodded.

"How long?" He asked.

"It's been three months," you responded while playing with your shot glass.

"And," you continued, the raised momentum in your voice catching Loki off guard, "I've already sold my soul to you so why not just live the last five days of my life with less pain and whatever it is that is killing me from the inside."

Loki eyed you, studying the emotions hidden in plain sight in your eyes.

"You do realise I will be inside you if you want me to untether whatever it is that is sucking the life out of you?"

You played the words that just came out of his mouth in your head and narrowed your eyes at him.

"Puns fully intended," he teased.

"Please. Don't," you pleaded. "Just do whatever you have to do to get this heaviness off me. And while you're insid-possessing me, please don't do anything I wouldn't do. I beg you."

"Oh! How lovely. That leaves me with so many choices." The sarcasm dripped in this one.

Putting your leg up on the sofa you straightened your back as much as you could.

"Okay, let's get on with it, then."

Loki chuckled.

"For someone who has studied about me, you sure seem to forget that I cannot just enter you, pet. I need you to give me your consent."

He moved the unruly strands of your hair away from your face, making your feel some shivers you had not felt in a very long time.

"You need to say yes."

"Yes?"

"And you need to seal your consent."

All you could do was blink at those smaragdines that were staring right into your soul, as cold fingers pulled up your chin.

"What do you want to say?" He asked gently.

"Yes," you exhaled with a relieving ache.

His thumb rubbed that edge of your jaw, his eyes taking off your soul's layers.

"Go ahead then," his command sounded more like the minstrel's song in the spring.

And you did go ahead, letting your lips meet his, feeling those cold supple ones with your heated throbs.

Your eyes closed as you felt yourself drawn into his icy touch, letting your lips chase his more; the urge to taste him growing with every second before you felt complete darkness and your bodies went limp over the sofa, seeming like they were in deep slumber.

The radio in your kitchen tuned on and started playing Ann Margaret's What Am I Supposed To Do; the music relatively slow and eerie to the taste of the apartment with no one but the inanimate objects and two lifeless bodies to hear it.

A few moments later the window in the living room opened, giving way to a strong gust of wind that knocked the dead bamboo plant from over the fridge, and as it went down, a magnet on the fridge door stuck to its side.

The glass bowl that the bamboo had rested in for so long shattered and the muddy, worm-infested water spilt over the kitchen floor.

The magnet, that was an angel, lay there between the water and broken glass.

Just as Ann sang her last verse, an echo reverberated through the air before sending a cosmic pulse from the centre of the radio as one powerful ripple throughout the apartment.

The song finished, the radio died and the cold silence came back again.

Hey, 12, 21, and 23 for the book asks, please?

12. What is your reading comfort zone?

To be honest i don’t think i  have a comfort zone. I read everything from fiction (all genres from classics to crime/horror/sci-fi/fantasy, in all forms: shorts stories, novels or plays) to non fiction, including poetry, journals, correspondance, and on all subjects/fields (philosophy, economy, sociology, psychology, politics, history, geography, biology, cosmology) etc. 

I also can not imagine only reading the same kind of books: i usually read several books at the same time and they’re purposefully from different genres in order to keep diversity in my reading.

More precisely, even if i like a book with a certain theme, i don’t tend to search for other books with the similar theme. Instead I’ll look for a kind of book that i wouldn’t have thought to read but to which a reviewer attracted my attention and changed my mind. I’m looking for what i could have missed, not what i already know.

However that doesn’t mean some books won’t test my patience, or reach the limits of my tolerance in term violence or sexuality notably, or leave me uncomfortable (The Vegetarian by Han Kang  for example with his mentally ill heroine who was repeatedly abused left me with a strong feeling of uneasiness for few days/weeks). Sometimes i avoid those kind of books sometimes i go for them precisely because of their effect, and the possibility to reflect on what it means that it was disturbing.  

21. What will inspire you to recommend a book?

I’m probably alone in this but i find quite difficult to recommend books even if i loved them.Often if i love a book and want people to know about it, i will prefer to discuss it: its qualities and it’s flaws and let them make up their minds rather than tell them to read it.  

I feel like to recommend books require to know a little bit about the preferences of the person: a recommendation must be personal to make sense and to not create expectations that can not be met (which can be disastrous and send people on slumps). 

So if i do it, it’s because i see the connection between the book and the potential reader. For a novel  it would be most likely based on its themes, the writer’s style, the author and his/her vision, the level of development of the characters, the pace of the plot etc. and how much those elements fit the needs of the reader.

It means that i can recommend a book that i didn’t like if i think that the reader could like it.  

23. Genre you rarely read (but wish you did?)

Art, historical fiction and memoirs are the genres that i reblog a lot, but i would have a hard time to mention more than 5 books read from those each of those categories and i regret it.

I’m also convinced that i have missed true gems in term of graphic novels and manga and comic strips and it’s entirely my fault because i stupidly can’t get ride entirely of my biais against “picture” books. I own few titles written by great masters (JirôTaniguchi, Shigeru Mizuki, Charles M. Schulz ) that are waiting since ages on my bookshelves to be read, but i seem to never be in the right mood to pick them.   

Also i avoid (actively) romance and (sometimes: it depends on the author) fantasy, especially when they’re mixed but surely YA books are more diverse than that. I’ve read few thriller/sci/fi horror YA novels (the mix of philosophy and sci-fi in Genesis by Bernard Beckett was quite fun)  while i worked in public schools that happened to be brilliant books, so i wonder what else is waiting to be discovered.

My all-time favorites fan art - part twentyseven - Agnarr/Iduna Special

King Agnarr and Queen Iduna in younger years

I guess many fans asking themselves how Agnarr have met his Queen and how they felt in love to eachother. There is hardly to find any art work about this theme and this one seems to be a rare example how it probably looks like.

It's summer in Arendelle, the dawn has broken and the sun sets slowly, the moon and some stars are be seen and young Agnarr and his Iduna are standing on the balcony of the castle. They are enjoying the fresh air from the coming night and Iduna leans on him with a happy smile. She's the first time in Arendelle and they haven't married yet. It looks like a dream have come true for her. 

I really would like to hear what the are talking to eachother in this intimate moment, if they are making wedding plans, what Agnarr has promised to her, or just maybe if she's asking him whereto they will ride out this beautiful morning...but wait...there's a lot more below.

The pictures radiates so much feeling and love, are so emotional and intense. Really amazing! I love them and there should be a storyline in Frozen II about the past of them!

I have been in contact to the Artist and i've got the permission to use his art work for this post. The artist has drawn more pictures of the relationship between Agnar and Iduna, take a look!

The artist is - as far as I can judge - the only one so far who deals with the history of Agnarr and Iduna in his works. In my opinion this would have a great potential for an illustrated fan fiction!

I'm not very good at writing stories, especially not with conversation and describing feelings, facial expressions, small plot details, etc., but I would have ideas about that already. I've never written a fan fiction before or any story at all and maybe one or the other of you can help or make a little story out of it. Anyway, i'll give it a try now.

The following story is based on the time before the birth of Elsa and Anna. Imagine the following idea: The small kingdom of Arendelle, maybe 20 years ago, before the story of Frozen begins - a Frozen PREQUEL so to speak!

The story begins with a short review of the kingdom and how it came into being (1). The actual story then begins with Agnarr, perhaps with his coronation, and his diplomatic travels and trade relations to allied countries. On one of these journeys he meets the future queen of Arendelle, Iduna (2). Agnarr falls in love with her at first sight and since he sits alone on the throne of Arendelle, he plans to take her as his wife - of course only if she feels affection for him. Iduna doesn't suspect anything of this yet, but is ready to accept his invitation to Arendelle. It can't hurt to get to know an important new trading partner of her country up close and personal, and he is also very gallant and very attractive. But she doesn't let it show - not yet anyway.

On the long ship voyage - the ship is fully loaded with important trade goods, which Arendelle urgently needs - the two get to know each other better. They talk about themselves and the peculiarities of their countries. While Iduna talks very reservedly, Agnarr raves about the beauty of the fjords in Arendelle and begins very carefully courting her. Now that ship journeys take a very long time and even for a big three-master it is not without danger to defy the wild sea, this voyage becomes quite turbulent for the two of them. When the ship finally lands in the port of Arendelle, Agnarr is greeted with cheers by the population, everyone is glad that the not entirely harmless journey came to a happy end - Arendelle obviously loves his king. Iduna is very impressed by the sight she sees -- Agnarr really hasn't understated it! Arrived at the castle, duly picked up in a magnificent carriage, the two are greeted respectfully by Kai and Gerda, Agnarr's most reliable servants. (3) Iduna is assigned the best suite and on Agnarr's instructions every wish should be fulfilled and Gerda should also take care of the new wardrobe, which is appropriate for Arendelle's climate.

The king then left Iduna with the words "My Lady, ya forgive, but unfortunately I have to take care of important government affairs for a while. You may move freely and every wish of yours shall be fulfilled." Iduna answers with a slightly astonished expression on her face and bends before the king, "Your Majesty, Sire, you are too kind. Thank you." She hesitates a little bit and then continues with "I would like to have a small request, however. I noticed the pretty city with its beautiful roofs and imaginative doors when I arrived in the carriage driving past. Could I also take a walk there". Agnarrr smiles and replies "But of course...you are welcome to have a look around there. If you already like the city so much, you should see it at the Yule-Fest, all inhabitants lovingly decorate their doors and facades with Christmas decorations and make gifts for the children. We have such a special tradition here at the castle. I will instruct Gerda to accompany you and show you everything. Please do not hesitate to express any special wishes." Iduna nods happily and smiles back "You must tell me about your traditions in Arendelle on occasion, Your Majesty, Sire. All this sounds very interesting and is new to me. There is no such thing with us".

While Agnarr has to take care of the most urgent government business, Iduna now has the opportunity to look around the castle and the city. Gerda accompanies her and carries a basket with her for a few small errands. Iduna takes the opportunity and has many conversations with the inhabitants. In this way she learns more about the king and everyday life in Arendelle. They visit several shops and finally end up at a stand where a large and strangely dressed young man loudly praises his goods. Iduna, turns up her nose, leans towards Gerda and asks quietly "What stin...smells here so obtrusive?” She looks up and reads "Oaken's summer sale" on a large sign above his stand, and on a slightly smaller sign next to it "with sauna". Gerda grins and replies in the same whisper "Oaken is a well-known city trader and offers something, let's say, something solid.” As they strolls past the stand, Oaken with a trained eye immediately recognizes that Iduna is new in town. "My Lady!" and a little quieter in Gerda's direction "Hello Gerda.", "May I offer you my speciality of the house?" and he holds out a large glass of a yellowish cloudy liquid with separated fish heads to Iduna. Iduna involuntarily takes a step back. "Lutefisk! Freshly pickled only last year". Iduna, somewhat perplexed, puts on a crooked grin and says "Thank you, but no thank you. I'm not quite comfortable today...". That's the keyword Oaken was obviously just waiting for. "My Lady, I can help against that", pulls out a small bottle from under the table and says in the chest tone of the conviction "A miracle cure against all kinds of discomfort... from my own production". Iduna slowly realizes that she can't get away without buying something. But Gerda saves her from the situation "My Lady, it's already late and I have to do my errands there in the shop". She winks at Iduna. She nods understandingly and says goodbye friendly but definitely to this obtrusive dealer.

As they continue, the two inevitably pass Oaken's Sauna, from which it steams strongly. Suddenly a young man with his upper body naked appears behind the small window and waves out. Iduna opens her eyes wide and quickly turns away. "There's a...", Gerda laughs, "That's Oaken's other specialty and the young guy in there is his partner, as they say." Iduna opens her eyes a bit further and her eyebrows move up in amazement. All of a sudden Gerda recognizes what she has just said out loud and opens her eyes in shock and presses her hand in front of her mouth, while Iduna asks "He is his... wait, WHAT?!", "Oh, My lady, please excuse my unseemly mouth, please don't listen to me, that was a little careless of me to talk about something like this in your presence." Gerda sinks down a bit and is very angry about her faux pas. But then her face brightens up again and she happily turns to Iduna and says "My Lady, I've got something, I'm sure you'll like it!". Iduna is grateful for Gerda's mood and they both enter a small shop where it smells beguiling. "My Lady?", Gerda watches amused as her companion takes a deep breath and lifts her head with her eyes closed. "Hmm...?" She opens her eyes again and looks around curiously. "What is that, Gerda?". Everywhere artfully manufactured small....yes, what exactly...little stones lie in the displays. Some of them piled up as small heaps, in the most different colours and forms. While Iduna is still looking around, Gerda talks to the seller and has her basket filled almost to the edge. After she has pushed two bank notes over the counter she quickly steps back at Iduna's side and asks astonished "My Lady? It seems you don't know any chocolate", a few seconds pass, "Chocolate...". Iduna repeats this strange sounding word quietly to herself. "Would you like a taste, my lady?" First she looks at Gerda, then at the basket with all the delicacies, she nods slowly but surely and carefully fishes one of the brown pieces with her fingertips. She looks questioningly at Gerda, who only nods in agreement. Slowly Iduna pushes the chocolate into her mouth and closes her eyes. In this wonderfully sweet moment she realizes that she could die for chocolate.

Back in the castle there is a lot of activity and all sorts of servants scurry here, carry something there and are in full working zeal. Gerda makes her way to the kitchen apologizing and Iduna stands a little undecided in the big hall, watching the silent hectic. It doesn't take long and King Agnarr walks down the stairs, directly towards her. "My Lady. How was ya day? Ya've been on the road a long time and I very much hope ya enjoyed it in the city". Iduna nods enthusiastically and starts telling stories as they stroll through the castle. At some point they step onto the balcony overlooking the fjord. For a while there is silence and except for a few birds there are no more noises to be heard from below. They both lean against the veranda and enjoy the peaceful view. After a while Iduna lowers her head and quietly, almost inaudibly asks "There is another reason for my presence here in Arendelle, not only because of the trade relations...isn't there, Your Majesty, Sire?". Agnarr quietly breathed in the cool evening air and looked up. The first stars were already visible at dusk. Finally he said "Yes", he turned to her, she lifted her head and looked at him. "My Lady...or may I just say Iduna to you?", she nodded slowly, already suspecting what he would say. "Iduna, I want to be honest with ya...with you. Since I first saw you there, in your country, and since our first conversation, when we were alone...I was...", he faltered. Then he looked up and they gazed directly into each other's eyes. Seconds passed. He took a deep breath and finally asked "Would you like to stay here in Arendelle? Forever? At my side?" She held her breath, trembled slightly all over her body, but held his gaze. "You felt it, didn't you? That I fell in love with you". She nodded barely audibly. Again seemingly endless seconds passed. Then she surrendered to her feelings and leaned against him. She looked out at the fjord, felt his warmth and his arm, which lay tenderly around her, remembered every little detail, every word of him since they met. She smiled as she quietly replied a single word, "Yes."

I know, the story sounds quite clichéd and sometimes a bit pathetic. At a certain point I couldn't stop writing and suddenly certain peculiarities of Anna occurred to me and I thought to myself, she must have it somewhere ;-) Well, it's just an idea of mine. After translating the text from German, I only corrected it superficially, so it may still contain mistakes. The most difficult thing for me in English are the noble forms of address, I hope I did it right.

Shuichi Saihara: The type to desperately find his group of friends as soon as physically possible. Will have a shot here and there, but only because everyone around him seems to be doing it, so fuck it. Only at his worst of nights will he drink excessively, and someone has to put a stop to it right now immediately because he will drink himself to a coma. Does not condone any of Kokichi Ouma’s behavior and will certainly try to stop it. Good luck.

Kaede Akamatsu: Will not drink, and expects that everyone else will do the same… and when they don’t she begs them to drink less. Everyone will find some way to have a conversation with her because she is such a social butterfly, even if she doesn’t mean to be. Understands the fruit punch bowl is spiked, understands that everyone else knows, and then enjoys the rest of the night knowing she doesn’t have school tomorrow. Constantly walking around to find something to do.

Rantaro Amami: He’s like Ramona Flowers except when you do strike up a conversation with him, he accepts it and continues the discussion. Sits at some couch in the middle of the entertainment, popcorn in hand, watching Miu and Angie play beer pong in the name of Atua. Will partake in a shot or two, but other than that, he remains sober throughout the entire party. Will try, and fail, to stop Kokichi in the event that this party becomes too wild. Will invite girls upstairs to do their nails.

Miu Iruma: The LIFE of the party, and she damn well knows it. Miu can outdrink everyone in her class, and considers it her mission to become absolutely shitfaced drunk at the end of the night. If possible, she will find someone to sleep with if they’re so willing. Starts every single game of Truth or Dare, Never Have I Ever, Spin The Bottle, etc… she breaks hearts yet mends them at the same time. She isn’t innocent about any of those group activities either, and particularly singles out people like K1-BO or Gonta.

I dare ya’ to kiss him! Fuck him! I don’t care, just go in the closet!

Tsumugi Shirogane: Has to be the best dressed at this party or else it was a waste of her time. She is one to have no clue about the fruit punch bowl, the spoon brushing against the tip of her red solo cup without a clue in the world as to what its doing to her. Becomes hilariously touchy by the end of the night, and throws away all the shame or embarrassment she ever had. That being said, if she is lucky enough to be at a party where she’s comfortable and in her area, she finds a small group of people and tends to stick with them for the rest of the night. Perhaps they can go upstairs and study, without the music distracting them…

Korekiyo Shinguji: Literally no one invited him but he’s here anyway. Hi, nice to meet you I fucked my sister Remains oddly quiet throughout the ordeal, choosing to only witness the disaster that follows when Miu bares her chest for her classmates to see or when Tenko’s fist meets a guy’s face upon unwanted advances… forms of entertainment, he supposes. He brings up voodoo or some shit like that to some classmate that tagged along for the ride, and somehow only candles are lighting up the house and there’s a seance happening. Everyone’s already drunk, might as well

Maki Harukawa: No one talk to her or else they face the consequences. Doesn’t want to be here in the first place except Kaito promised it would be fun except… she’s not having fun. Her arms are crossed as she sits in the corner and eyes the punch bowl, and she makes up some stupid joke about what is it called when people wait to have a cup of juice? A punch line and it’s so dumb she wants to actually, physically punch someone for it. She does seem to be more at ease when someone she likes begins a conversation with her, but tries to find any possible way to leave or reach somewhere more quiet.

K1-BO: Would also rather be anywhere else but here, but appreciates the sentiment of having able to study the behavior of his classmates and friends in such a situation. Perhaps, he thinks, he will be able to understand the life of a teenager this way. Partakes in the occasional drink that he cannot understand a buzz to, and hops into an occasional game of Never Have I Ever where… he takes one sip from his beverage. Everyone around him is babbling and cursing and he has to attempt desperately to stay sane in a party where everyone lacks shame or understanding of their behavior in public. Spends the rest of it running away from Miu

Kaito Momota: A man who can outdrink Miu, although he only does it if he has to. He is also a social butterfly, but he will make sure people like Maki are comfortable if need be; he is also a prime player in all drinking games, and refuses to leave the party without having fun. If he decides that parties are not his thing, not a problem; the blur and muffle of different genres behind his ear allow such beautiful stargazing. Those are the days where he can’t help but remain absolutely, positively sober… just so he can enjoy a life dwindling before him.

Himiko Yumeno: QUALITY ENTERTAINMENT RIGHT HERE. People not used to her talent will go batshit crazy for her magic tricks; she would pull a bunny out of her hat in front of a group of people, and no one would notice that obvious trick she pulled because everyone present doesn’t even know how to walk in a straight line. Has her own table of Dungeons and Dragons that nerds and jocks alike flock to, simply because no one seems to want to do anything but drink and see what happens. Everyone wants to be her friend afterward, especially after she just PULLED OUT THEIR CARD WHAT THE FUCK HOW DID SHE KNOW

Angie Yonaga: Angie Yonaga drinks for fun. In the name of Atua, she relies on her entertainment through the strength and will of her God and… plays an insane game of beer pong. Her hands seem to be adept on something other than art, to their surprise, but people are shook when she downs the drink swishing around in her cup like its nothing. Secretly tries to lure people in the realm of Atua and his greatness, and has no problem luring anyone she likes to bed. If Atua allows it, then who is she to deny?

Gonta Gokuhara: This isn’t what he signed up for. Someone promised him bugs… yet, now he feels as if his feet don’t meet the ground. His vision is swaying as the people chatter around him, downing red solo cups and stuffing food in their mouths. Before that, he is a naive gentlemen who attempts to get to know everyone at this party. He actively chooses not to partake in such games; as much as he wants to understand them and play, Miu is clutching at her chest and Angie’s public display of affection is getting a bit too much… so no. When he is drunk, you best believe he’s crashing at this place because there is no way he can last long in the wild with his consciousness not fully there.

Tenko Chabashira: Will make a party 100% more interesting if she sees a guy and they decide to get too close to her. Not only is it entertaining to everyone around her to see someone get beat up, but to see some guy get got? That’s why you go to parties, kiddies. Other than that, she will follow Himiko around and assist her on her magical tricks, even resting her chin on her shoulder as her best friend succeeds in her position as Dungeon Master I watched Stranger Things I got this Doesn’t drink that often unless there is only girls around, as she doesn’t trust men enough to let herself go around.

Now whoever spiked that punch bowl…

Kirumi Tojo: Does not understand for the life of her why these kids partake in such acts. However, she swoops down and picks up a beer can, a bottle… throwing it into the garbage. Sighs as she snatches a shot glass from one of her classmates. Her palm meets her face as she watches yet another one of her friends embarrass themselves around a group of people, with not a single care in the world as to what’s going to happen to them. That being said, certain acts of violence are entertaining to her… that brings about a chuckle. If you’re lucky enough to have Kirumi at your party, don’t let her go,,, make her stay long after the party ends

Ryoma Hoshi: You forget he’s even there but it’s cool because he killed people and that’s kind of rad. Is a silent drinker, meaning that he prefers not to show off his tendency to stay sober after a certain amount of drinks. Chills in some corner with people like Maki except refuses to make any eye contact or begin any conversation… so then why are you here? Anyway, he must have gotten an invite from a close friend because he watches what goes down and there’s a small grin on his face because his classmates are so damn interesting and pure in their own ways. He wishes that he could get used to something like this.
