But her most recent viral moment? Accidentally knocking famous streamer, Kodzuken, off the Bedwars map and making him lose his two year winning streak.

Now with more attention (and hate) than she ever asked for, her only option left is to go to the source: the man himself, Kenma Kozume.

Chapter 2 (b): Boredom

Word Count: 2187

It’s been an hour since Kenma started streaming, and he’ll admit that he’s starting to get a bit bored. He usually enjoys playing Bedwars on stream but he’s been doing it so often lately that it’s beginning to get repetitive.

“What the hell is this guy doing,” he asks as he notices someone start building a tower of blocks on the emerald island. Kenma sprints over to the player, jumping up to knock him off the tower. 

“Hype_boy2000 was killed by Kodzuken!”

“People that play minecraft are brainless sometimes I swear to god,” he hears Kuroo mutter in his headset. 

Despite living together, his best friend usually only joins the stream via voice call, so he can interact with Kenma’s viewers and still be comfortable in his own room. Kenma honestly actually prefers this, it’s easier to hear him and he doesn’t have to worry about his roommate doing anything dumb in front of the camera. 

He shakes his head, “You play minecraft.” 

“Exactly!” 

Kenma snorts, taking a quick glance at his chat to see how his audience is feeling.

He looks bored 😕

His eyebrows furrow then because he’s almost completely positive that he’s hiding his feelings well enough for no one to notice. Apparently he’s not. 

He feels something tug at his neck and briefly looks down to see what it is, resisting a smile at the sight of one of the younger cats, Mars, playing with the drawstring of his hoodie. “Do we wanna try playing something else after this?” 

“Why? You gettin’ bored of winning all the time,” his roommate teases and Kenma has to force himself not to react to his words because he might just be joking but he’s hit the nail right on the head. 

Kenma pretends he doesn’t hear him as he kills the last player (winning himself yet another game),“I’ll go one more round and then we can figure out something else to play.” 

OMG do you guys see the paw????

SHOW US THE CATS

We wanna see the cats

“I think the only reason you’re famous is because we have a million cats,” Kuroo announces and Kenma can almost see the accompanying eye roll. 

“I’m fine with that,” he shrugs. “But I guess I can show you guys the cats before we start.” 

He changes his scene in OBS so that it’s only showing his camera, making sure he’s in full view before he scoops up the bengal cat still sitting in his lap. “This is Mars, we got him like a month ago. How old is he? Um like five months I think?”

He sets him back down on his desk, “There’s only like four cats in here right now by the way.” 

ONLY FOUR???

How many cats does he have lol

“I think there’s like fifteen in the house right now,” Kenma’s head unconsciously tilts as he silently counts all their cats. “No- wait. Seventeen now, plus however many Minnie will have when she gives birth.” 

“Yeah but don’t worry we have three different rooms in the house for them, plus the loft and then the house itself is three stories.” Kuroo chimes in, defending Kenma’s apparent obsession despite the fact that he supposedly doesn’t care. “And then we have like ten cat towers and eight litter robots.” 

EIGHT?????

Oh so they’re rich rich

“Anyways um-,” Kenma pauses to reach for the orange cat currently laying in the cat bed beside his desk. “This is Enji, she’s been with us for three years now and she’s five years old.” Enji meows in disapproval as Kenma picks her up and tries to show her to the camera. She fights against him, her claws digging into his forearms and making him grimace. “She doesn’t like being picked up.” 

As if on cue Enji jumps out of his arms and lays right back down in the bed, eyeing Kenma like he’s just committed some sort of grave sin. 

“Well now that she hates me,” he shoots the camera a look, “Let’s go grab another one.” 

He stands from his chair, taking a cursory glance throughout the room to spot any other animals lingering. “Oh-,” he notices a ball of fluff hiding in the cat tower sitting in the corner of his streaming room. 

Miomi is much more willing to be picked up, her purrs echoing throughout the room as he cradles her in his arms and walks back to his desk. “This is Miomi, she’s a ragdoll obviously.” 

“She’s my favorite,” Kuroo suddenly chimes in. “Literally so cuddly I love it.” 

“She is very sweet,” Kenma agrees as he strokes the cat’s stomach. She blinks up at him slowly, her purrs lessening as she drifts back to sleep. “We’ve had her the longest, ever since we moved in.” 

Kenma gently moves to set her back into the cat tower, to which she stretches only once before immediately falling right back asleep. He then looks up towards the cat shelves he’d put on his walls a few years ago, snorting when he spots exactly who he was expecting to find up there. 

“Come here little buddy,” he coaxes the animal into his hands who meows in protest as his little paws reach out to cling onto his shoulders. And Kenma is just barely able to move into the camera frame before he starts practically screaming. “This is void,” he pauses to lightly pat his head, knowing that usually helps to calm him down. “Any guesses as to why we named him that?” The question is entirely rhetorical. 

“Dude he’s like blending into your fucking sweatshirt,” Kuroo suddenly laughs. 

Kenma leans forward to look at the viewfinder of his camera, “Holy shit he is.” 

Void starts meowing again at the change in position and Kenma can feel himself flinch from how loud it is. “Hey hey hey, it’s okay. You’re okay,” he swiftly places him back on the shelf. 

“That’s all the cats in here,” Kenma tells his viewers as he sits back down. “I might do a full video introducing everyone but it would just take a while to film because a few of them like going outside a lot.” 

“Yeah I haven’t seen Binx inside in like two months,” his roommate further adds. 

“I see him in the backyard a lot but he’s usually sitting up on the fence,” Kenma notes as he reopens the game on his stream. 

Kenma goes outside???

He went out to touch grass

He ignores their jests, running in game to play his final round of bedwars for the night. “How about a three v. three?” 

“Oh yeah you haven’t played in teams in a while have you?” 

“A couple months I think,” he responds as he selects the game. “What do we wanna play after this?” The streamer directs his gaze to the chat while he waits for his character to load into the game. 

“I was thinking something like Spiderman, or we could play Stardew with Kuro,” he adds just as he’s spawned into the map. 

“Um, hello?” His roommate’s voice is loud with disbelief. 

“Hi.” Kenma takes a moment to collect as much iron and gold he needs before sprinting to get a stone sword and some wool.

“Do I get a say in this at all?”

Kenma feels his eyebrows furrow, “You realize that you’re here solely for the viewers entertainment right?” 

He begins speed-bridging across to the emerald island as he hears his best friend scoff. “Fuck you.” 

“No thank you,” Kenma hums as he finishes off the bridge and jumps into one of the emerald spawners. 

“Sometimes I wonder why we’re friends,” while the words themselves are mean, both men know that Kuroo is entirely joking as he says it. 

Kenma subconsciously nods, “All the time.” 

He spots another player from a distance and moves to crouch behind a pile of blocks next to the spawner. “I think my strat is to just kinda run and kill everyone and let my teammates worry about the bed,” he explains. 

The player passes by then and Kenma manages to take him out within a few simple hits, as he usually does. He looks over at the chat, expecting the same praise he always receives after getting a kill but is entirely thrown off by seeing a completely random topic of conversation instead. 

AHHHHH IT’S Y/N

Most unexpected duo ever💀

I was literally watching her stream twenty minutes ago

“Y/N?” Kenma is more than confused at this point, completely lost as to who or what his chat is obsessing over. 

“What’s that? Is that like the name of the map or something?” 

Kenma’s in slight shock for a moment at his question because there’s no way he lives with someone as stupid as Kuroo. “You’re literally an idiot. Look at chat, dumbass.” 

He decides to start making his way back to his team’s island, building a bridge to the diamonds to collect any that spawned on his way. “Oh she’s a streamer too apparently.” 

“Oh really?” He turns his character to look in the general direction of their island just out of simple curiosity, only to see something totally unexpected. 

He watches as one of his teammate’s suddenly jumps out from behind a giant pyramid of blocks, running towards an encroaching enemy player and knocking him into the void before they’re even able to make it onto the island.

But that’s not what makes Kenma stop and stare. It’s when the player starts jumping around, punching the air and spinning in circles as they seemingly celebrate the kill, that Kenma pauses. “What the fuck are they doing,” he hears himself mutter as he finally remembers to finish bridging to their island. 

GIVE HER THE STUFF

He blinks, “That’s Y/N?” 

He runs over to her, abiding to his chat and throwing the stuff he collected on the ground in front of her (it’s not like he’s going to need any of it anyways). But she just stares at him, and he realizes that she must be dumber than he initially thought because she definitely doesn’t know what he’s doing. 

He tries his best to non-verbally tell her to pick it up - which takes longer than Kenma would like - but she finally understands and runs forward to grab the items. “Holy shit,” he mutters to himself as he turns and sprints back the way he came. 

He decides to start getting the beds of the enemy teams and he’s in the middle of killing the last player on the purple team when he sees a highlighted message pop up in his game chat. 

“Thanks :)” 

He knocks the player off, hearing the tell-tale sound of their death as he opens game chat to look back at the message. “Shouldn’t she be paying attention to the game?” He says it like he’s annoyed, and he’s sure that it comes off that way to his viewers judging by their reactions to his words. 

But he’s almost certain that Kuroo is able to tell that he’s not (he’s the opposite really) when he teasingly says, “Aw, she said thank you Kenma.” 

“Shut up.” 

And despite always being notoriously calm on stream, Kenma’s face suddenly feels warm.

“You guys saw that right?” Kenma is in disbelief as he spectates Y/N, who’s currently just standing and not doing anything to stop the enemy player running towards her. “What the fuck is she doing now? Is her game frozen?” 

Y/N doesn’t react at all as she’s being attacked and Kenma can feel his jaw literally drop when she’s abruptly killed.

“Red Team has been eliminated!"

He sits back in his chair, his eyes wide and mouth still agape as he tries to process what just happened. 

He didn’t really care when she knocked him off the bridge, was even slightly impressed that she was willing to take down her own teammate to survive. But that all changed when she didn’t even try to fight back against the other player. 

“We just lost,” he whispers, mostly to himself, and the sentence feels foreign on his tongue. 

He can hear his roommate saying something over the headset but he can’t quite understand what it is, nor does he currently care enough to try to figure it out. 

“We lost,” he repeats, louder this time and it’s insane because he feels like laughing. 

He can feel himself grinning as his character loads back into the lobby, “I can’t believe we actually just lost.” 

And he feels almost giddy as he watches his win streak fall all the way back down to zero; because, for the first time in two years, something is different. 

And never has he ever been so happy to lose.

oh no you've activated my trap card i love drinks

okay so special occasion drink: brown sugar boba (50% ice 50% sweet) but specifically from the tea shop close-ish to my house. it's expensive so i don't go often but holy shit. they use actual proper tea and fresh-as-hell boba and it's just. it's so good, i think anything from there would be insanely worth it (but i've never bothered to branch out from perfection).

my daily bev: i can't be too specific on brand without lowkey doxxing myself a tad, but there's a local company that does this flavored black tea with cornflower, raspberry, red plum petals, and blueberry, and it's just. it's incredible. mellow and rich and lightly (but not overwhelmingly) floral and fruity. i have it every single day and i'm convinced it is the perfect tea.

and two other faves because you asked for recipes:

strawberry (cheong) lemonade: okay so this is more effort than truly necessary, but i went to one of those u-pick strawberry places last summer and then the cultivar fucking sucked so they weren't even good, so i made cheong with them, which is a korean fruit syrup/preserve you make by layering equal amounts of fruit and sugar in a jar and letting them sit (i put them in the fridge just to be safe) for a few weeks.

the end result is preserves that you can blend into a bangin' spread and a fruit syrup that is like the nectar of the fucking gods. i didn't think it would make a huge difference doing it that way rather than a typical heat-based reduction, but it tastes like fresh strawberries. you don't lose any of that to it breaking down via heat treatment, so similar to the difference between a cold brew and a heat-based one.

anyway those mixed with lemonade (i make a concentrate using half lemons and half regular lemon juice, and include some lemon zest) makes one of the best summer drinks i've ever had.

i'm adding a cut for the last one because i can't/won't stop now but i have some self-awareness. okay, last one:

vanilla chai: i haven't made this in a bit, because when i moved here i ended up using up my stock of cardamom, and the local brand available here is just... not it, and i'm still trying to work out the most cost-effective way to order them online. which is devastating, because cardamom is the flavor most beloved to me in chai. anyway-

the thing that rocks about chai is that it is not actually all that hard, and you can customize it so specifically to your taste. my go-to add-ins are cardamom (5-6 pods, crushed open), cloves (2-3), cinnamon (about half a stick, crushed a lil), fresh ginger (idk how to measure this one, like an inch or two?), and vanilla. i used to use vanilla bean paste i got ages ago as a gift, but that is too rich for the world we live in nowadays, so it's whatever vanilla i have.

technically there's a specific kind of tea you're supposed to use, but i prefer it with regular loose-leaf black tea (which i always have on hand anyway). so you basically get a small pot, and bring your water (about half to 3/4 of your mug) to a boil. once it does, add your tea leaves and spices (not vanilla tho) and let them vibe out there for 5-10 minutes.

then, add your milk (about half of your mug) and vanilla, and warm to desired temp, but don't let it boil (this is my personal preference). add desired amount of sugar to your mug (i usually do a small spoonful of white and a small spoonful of brown sugar) and pour the chai into the mug through a fine mesh sieve (to get out the spice bits). if you have a milk frother, i like to aerate it a bit before drinking (improves flavor and also makes it less likely to burn your tongue).

That is not what I said in the slightest, to a point where im questioning if youre asking me this in good faith at all. Please actually read and/or reread the words I typed before accusing me of things like this. My initial post was not even worded in a way that was vague enough to be misinterpreted this way.

If you still don’t understand how misguided you are, here is my attempt at putting it more clearly :

Yes, aversion to sex and/or romance and lack of sexual/romantic desires can come from trauma. Therapy can help that, if you find the right therapist. However, from my own experiences, I can tell you that the way a lot of therapists approach this is at best, ineffective, and at worst, downright retraumatizing. If sex and/or romance makes you uncomfortable, being convinced to take part in sexual/romantic acts without you having desires for it or being downright averse to it is a recipe for disaster (for most people). It just puts you into more non-consensual and traumatizing positions. That is what exposure therapy is, and that is what most therapists have tried (and sometimes succeeded) to do to me. Horrible experience, would not recommend to anyone. This approach tries to cure the symptom instead of the issue, and is deeply based in ace/arophobia (seeing “fixing” a lack of attraction as more urgent and important than addressing the source of the issue, the actual trauma).

Also, no. If someone doesn’t feel like fixing their trauma for any reason, nobody should push them to. A therapist can absolutely inform the patient on the benefits of doing so, but trauma work is incredibly hard, very much a long-term thing, and can put the patient in an extremely vulnerable headspace. It’s the mental equivalent of breaking a bone to set it right again. For an abuse victim who just got out of that situation, it is completely understandable for them to want to enjoy their new-found freedom and joy as much as they can, for as long as they want. Pushing them towards trauma work without the right environment, mindset or literally anything else they feel might make this not the right time for it can cause further damage, especially knowing how the current psychiatric institution works.

Asexuality and aromanticism, however, do not come from trauma, or any other neurological differences. It might be affected by it, and people with life experiences similar to aro and/or ace people are welcomed in the community (for exemple, sexual and/or domestic abuse survivors that are sex/romance averse), but it is not caused by it. Most therapy settings are not informed about asexuality, and assume it is a symptom of a underlying issue, that needs to be fixed. The same kind of exposure therapy that I talked about earlier is often used to “cure” aro and/or ace people, putting them those same non-consensual and traumatizing situations. That is conversion therapy, and medical use of coerced corrective rape. These therapists are, often with methods similar to gaslighting (and I use the original meaning of the word here, not the diluted tiktok version of it), convincing people to do sexual and/or romantic acts that they have no desire to do, to fix an issue that doesn’t exist, with the explicit goal of making someone not queer. Please explain to me how that is not conversion therapy.

Other forms of arophobia and acephobia are prevalent in psychiatric institutions as they are today, tho I wouldn’t call most of those conversion therapy. You only need to look at the notes on my post to see what I’m talking about.

team prime but what they do at night when they can't recharge; I got this idea from a silly little idea that bots go to sleep like we do instead of just powering down.

I headcanon that bee would either toss and turn until settling into his back and stare at the ceiling, get up and go for a midnight stroll, hum/sing to himself, or play videogames when he can't recharge.

OP would do everything in his power to get back to recharge until giving in and either check up on his teammates (standing outside their door for a nanoklik before moving on) , read a data pad, or sharpen his axe.

It's a rare occurrence for ratchet to not be able to recharge as he's old and needs it, but he doesn't care so he stays up late filing or organizing data pads.

Bulk would sleep soundly but if he can't then he'll do the cybertronian equivalent for counting sheep, probably be careful as he can while trying to paint, or think up of cool ideas/stuff to paint tomorrow.

Prowl would turn onto his side and stare at the tree in his room with the available light in the room from the moon. Or get up and get some oil/something to refuel himself with, or think of things he normally wouldn't/doesn't get the chance too.

That's a cool idea.

I mean, the only transformers fandoms i was ever interested in were the 2 cartoons; Rescue Bots and now TFA. I actually watched the older season or 2 of Rescue Bots- there was an episode where one of the bots (Blades) was sneaking out and woke up another bot (Boulder).

So yeh, i think their recharge mode is more like a sleep mode on a laptop or pc. The sensitivity of it- as in what will wake them up from it- varies depending on the transformer itself. For example, one could wake up to a thud or a small sound and the other could sleep thru a storm or even an alarm.

I imagine Bee is the type to not need much recharge to function, somehow this mf is energetic almost all the time. Because of that, he won't be able to go to recharge at least once a week. His battery is just not drained enough. So what he does is he'll pull a gaming night or have a romance movie night. Or if he really wants to recharge, he'll drive around town and do some crazy donuts on the outskirts, anything to get his battery low enough to recharge.

Optimus is the type that is he's not recharging he'll get flashbacks to his life's mistakes. So if he can't recharge he will stay up and catch up on his reports if he hasn't done them. He'll go over his recipes, read a book or like you said, sharpen his axe. He will get everything he needs and walk out into the parking lot so the sounds don't wake up his team, sit on the shipping container and sharpen it while looking at the few stars in the sky.

Ratchet will absolutely pull an all-nighter organizing his files and med folders, a little less work for tomorrow... Most often tho he ends up sprawled at his desk at the end on the night. He didn't need recharge at that moment but he does need it after all.

Rarely Bulkhead can't recharge at night- recharging soundly is an effect of growing up on the farm where there was sound basically all cycle long. Those times he can't fall into recharge he'll just lay and imagine what pretty things he could paint. Or count Quarills to help him recharge. (A Quarill is a made up creature, i think it'll be like a 6-legged cybertronian horse, similar to Avatar's Direhorse)

Prowl is also the minibot of the team- although unlike Bumblebee, he's not all energetic and moving all the time so he's not burning his battery as much. It's often Prowl can't recharge, instead he will go out and refuel since his meditation makes him forget to do so during the day. He'll absolutely snoop around the pantry and steal something good to eat that he usually wouldn't. Other times he will sneak out and go on a nightly stroll around the parks and nearby forest. He's the one that is put on night patrols more often, in fact he asked Optimus if he could do them(it's quieter and more peaceful at night). So if he's not on night patrol, he will do the things i listed above.

Bonus: Sari will just eat all the fucking candy he father hid from her and snoop around the other parts of the tower that are still functioning. If she's having a sleepover at the Autobot Base she will go and seek Bee. They'll play video games or watch a movie Sari eventually will get tired, she's just a 10yo, and doze off on Bee's lap. Then he will bring her back to her bed and either go recharge himself or do what he does when he can't recharge.

i have been creating a lot of stuff and im nearly done with my online science course and should be done by the end of this week!

the other week was eid and ur girlie made sweets, dressed up, visited a friend, and made Mario Lego B) I also got stickers for my laptop but that's unrelated lol

also we made bakhlawa and makrout they are literally my favorites lol, even the people at my friends party seemed to really like them too lol

I'm glad you got to enjoy some nice food, time with friends, and dressing up! Also, it sounds like you're having a ton of fun creating recently! I am as well, but it's slow going as I'm working on a multi-chap that's very demanding about where and what is supposed to happen (I did this to myself but the results are fantastic!)

"Four Keys" sounds like it has great potential as a title! I like it! I also love the Russian accent. the character is giving slight Captain America vibes, but only for backstory, and I love the concept so much!

As for a irrational fear..... ma am I bad at those I rationalize anything so... maybe large empty spaces? Usually those are indicative of a boss fight in his mind, so just having one that isn't hiding some threat throws him way off. He's also insanely wary of any room with a tiled floor. Because >:)

I also love him and Wind! The fact that they're both on the younger side here but also both accustomed to being the person others look to gives great opportunities for them to bond and interact. Legend has a lot of experience to share but he's also not up on a pedestal like Time or Warriors is, so there's more opportunity for direct communication and less a need to impress. (I actually just finished writing something with them, as it happens!)

I'm honestly not the best baker in the world, or cook in general (I'm still building up my recipe book after leaving my parent's house) but I can share my mum's bread recipe! It's very good, for every day, or to make into rolls for the holidays and with nice meals!

Recipe makes 4 large loaves btw

Dissolve 2 packages of dried yeast into 4 cups of warm water.

In a separate bowl, mix 1/2 cup soft butter with 1/2 cup of honey (you can also add 1/4 cup of molasses for super dense rolls/loaves).

Once the honey-butter is combined, add the yeast water to the bowl

Scoop in 6 cups of whole wheat flour + 4 cups white flour.

Mix, knead, and set into greased bread-pans, or roll into balls on a cookie sheet.

Bake loaves for 35-40 min at 375 F, or rolls for 10-15 min at the same.

After you remove it from the oven, brush generously with butter before they cool, for extra flavor and to preserve moistness.

Hope this one makes you happy! It's great to use in sandwiches, serve with soup, or eat with jam, or alone!

General 2. Do the other companions have special comments or reactions upon recruiting your Tav? i imagine she's recruited doing something silly/is at least somewhat in peril – stuck on the edges of the swamp behind some traps that seem to keep popping back up whenever she turns around (the redcaps are fucking with her), or caught in a web under the goblin village bc her pod crashed nearby and in her haste to not be seen, she fell thru the rotting floorboards and now she's stuck and she could burn the webs away but honestly it's a miracle that the bigger spiders haven't been drawn to her yet and that seems like a recipe for disaster, so uh, help please?

so i think more practically-minded companions – lae'zel for sure, astarion, maybe shadowheart – wonder aloud about how useful she could be, given how they've found her; the first two maybe remark that it would've been better to leave her there to figure it out for herself, lmao.  

wyll, karlach, and gale are a bit more sympathetic, and karlach just wants to pick her up and squeeze her like a lil teddy bear.

3. Does your Tav have any comments or advice when you recruit other companions? if you recruit her before astarion, she is livid on your behalf if you fail the perception roll and end up with a knife at your neck. she has incineration on her mind, like gale; unlike gale, she's too mad to be articulate: "if they don't walk away from this, neither will you."

she loves karlach right away. tiefling solidary is strong, and she knows devils well, and this is definitely a (pretty) tiefling and not a devil. she strongly advises hearing karlach out and helping her; she's extremely sad if you choose to fight and kill karlach instead. big disapproval hit there. don't fuck with tieflings. 

if she's in your party when you recruit gale, she doesn't say anything, but you quietly get a few points of approval if you slap his hand before rescuing him

actually wait there would be one reaction. if your party is full when you reboot Gail and he says he'll go back to camp and get started on stew, amity goes "fuck yeah, stew!!!"

4. What sort of general actions raise or lower their approval?

goody-two-shoes choices tend to net approval with her, no surprise there. tho honestly i think with amity, you'd be getting little 'amity approves!' notifications all the time, but then find out that they're mostly just +1s so even tho they can trigger often, it's hard to build high approval just with that. you get bigger approval for harder choices, naturally, and she does favor being good and kind, but it happens a bit less often. 

you can talk her into giving approval even if you decline the Extra Good and Generous option, as long as you present some logical/practical reason for it – sorry amity, helping tieflings is nice, but think about how many of them will die if we're too slow to remove our tadpoles and we all transform into mindflayers; greater good and all that, right?

…and you get approval when you do dumb, chaotic, fun things. like. you jump down the pit in the spider cavern without feather fall, and after withers revives you, amity says "that was very ill-advised, but in the moments before you splattered on the ground, it looked like a lot of fun!" and you get +10 approval.

you also get approval points when you're rude to/make fun of raphael or mizora, lmao. amity blatantly disrespects any devil lower than, like, a kyton in the hierarchy of devils. 

for specific actions, you get +10 approval for killing aunty ethel, even if you fuck up saving mayrina. fuck hags, all amity's homies hate hags. and also i think every single companion disapproves if you smear shit on your face when trying to get into the goblin camp, but y'know what? amity thinks that's very practical. fuck dignity, it avoided a fight, and she respects that. now hold still, she'll prestidigitate that off of you as soon as you turn the corner.

Story 5. How do they react to the Player Character taking their first tadpole power? she's a little horrified, but primarily at the idea that you willingly put that in your eye?? ouch?? and are you sure there's enough room in your cranium for another one of those suckers?? she does, however, ask that if you plan to do it again – not that she advises that, mind you! – that you let her watch and take notes. she promises to do her very best to suppress her gag reflex if you do. 

10. How do they react if the PC licks the dead spider in the Gauntlet of Shar? "oh! wow! that's – um. was that… good?" devnote: no part of her believes that could've been good. 

in response to a second lick: "oh, wow. are you okay? blink twice if you're ensorcelled and need help. no? it couldn't have been good enough to be worth it. …could it?" devnote: said in a tone which indicates almost enough curiosity to try it for herself. 

11. What do they say if the PC tries to force them to go up on stage with Dribbles the Clown? honestly, she's fucking delighted, she loves circuses and clowns. 

"really? me? are you sure you don't want to go up there instead? dribbles really knows his stuff, you'll be missing out! but okay, if you're sure!"

she's so excited that she's wiggling the whole time she's on stage. +5 approval at least. 

14. How does Tav react to the PC becoming a mind flayer?  Can they offer to become one themselves?  Does their reaction change if they’re romanced? the theological implications of the soul being destroyed in the process of becoming a mind flayer are… concerning – if the soul is gone, how can one ever be sure that the person isn't gone, and that the tadpole isn't just assuming the memories and characteristics of its former host?

but. the player character is her friend! (and maybe her partner, but either way – her friend!) and friendship is sacred! she's not going to let some tentacles get in the way of that!!! she's just sorry that you had to go through this, but you're so brave and kind for doing it – you've done the hard part, leave it to her to support you through this!

(a later bit of dialogue you might get is "hey, we match now – we're both purple! c:" )

as for herself – she'd want to take some time to think about it bc it is Not a decision that she'd be excited to make, but… honestly, what's lil' ol' her worth when compared to the entirety of the sword coast? so yeah, she'd volunteer herself, if need be. 

hey, don't feel too bad – she was only gonna make it maybe 40 if she's lucky, the way she keeps throwing herself into danger. hell, she's technically already died once already! and her soul was likely bound for the wall of the faithless when she died, so what's it matter if this destroys her soul now, right?

(this is not going to help her self-esteem issues AT ALL – people might distrust tieflings, but they REALLY distrust mindflayers – but She Will Do It)

((if you're romancing her and ask her to become a mindflayer and break up with her, she isn't even mad. she gets it. if you still want to be with her, she full on cries. says you don't have to do that, there's a better path for you out there; it's a whole thing.))

17. If romanced, how do they react to the Dark Urge trying to kill them in Act 2? i will be fully honest here: despite only doing like 10 minutes of a dark urge run so far, i get the impression that most companions… do not take the dark urge particularly seriously. even if the dark urge is upfront about everything and full on confesses "hey, i crave murder, i'm pretty sure i've done lots of murder before, and i want to do more murder."

amity would. she'd be tossing out suggestions on what to do and trying to get everyone on board – and if she couldn't sway anyone pre-alfira, she gets very serious about it post-alfira. everyone takes turns being on watch? they set up the alarm spell around the dark urge? …little bells on their ankles?

so i think in a sense she'd be prepared. she'd have to believe that the dark urge isn't in control of themselves in order to keep going after alfira, so therefore, she believes that whatever urge is driving them is both very powerful and likely to crop up again.

…unfortunately, amity Needs Sleep. she functions poorly on less than optimal sleep, and once she IS asleep, it's very difficult to wake her up and she gets combative if you try. if the dark urge tries to wake her up to warn her, they need to make a dex save to avoid either a fire bolt or a stray fist thrown their way. (it's okay if they fail tho, her aim isn't great when she's sleepy and she only has 9 strength.) 

dark urge has gotta get thru her grumpy-at-being-woken up phase before she's even close to coherent enough to understand what's going on, but when they do – she's ready. as ready as you can be for something like that, anyway. 

"you – now? shit. okay, we can handle this, we can – hand me my bag, i've got materials for a warding spell in there. you good long enough to find somewhere private, or does it need to be now-now? –shit, clearly it's now-now, okay–"

dark urge wakes up and she's all smiles. "hello, dear heart! you went down pretty quick, had me worried! slipped a pillow under your head, but your noggin might still be sore in the morning sorry. oh, not up for a chat? that's alright! i'm here anyway! :)"

i think some of her encouragement would be drawing on gleeful spite –like "hey, think about how pissed off this urge is gonna be that you've managed to fight it so far – i bet it's livid, haha. and look at you, you're managing it anyway! i knew you could do it; you're doing so well!"

and then she sits at the ready, telling silly stories of ways she's fucked up on adventures or of neat things she's seen until the dark urge is able to sleep

she's lightly dozing when they wake up but she's mostly sitting up – it's clear she's tried to stay up and keep watch all night. 

as she dismisses the wards, she throws some suggestions at them – consistent alarm spells around their cot at night? her knot-tying is pretty good, they could rely on that each night if spells don't seem like enough? well – no, that's not how she meant if, but if that's how you take it, she's not necessarily opposed to… wait, we're discussing important business here, save that for later!

and she passes them something from her bag and it's a sending stone. "annnnnd if you feel like there's something you need to tell me but you can't say it out loud for whatever reason, or if I'm not there, though honestly how often does that happen – well! this'll give you a direct line to me, even without the tadpoles :)"

sending stones as a gesture of love yet again (also she never travels anywhere without at least one set of sending stones on her. she has learned how valuable they can be)

Romance 1. Is your Tav a romanceable character?  Are there any specific requirements to romancing them? i think she would be, but it would be sloooooow going. so slow that players aren't always certain that they're correctly triggering it at all, damn it, where'd that guide go?

you've got to get her to be genuinely vulnerable with you, which is. difficult! she has self-esteem issues. and self-image issues. and she has issues with touch – simultaneously touch-starved and touch-repulsed (thanks a lot, hag curse, for fucking up the progress she'd made on that). she wants to be with someone, but oh, gods, is that frightening.

you have to tread carefully with her. lay it on too thick, and she thinks you're fucking with her (or just being nice, but either way, she believes 0% of it). gotta build a LOT of trust first. honestly, her friendship path and her romance path would be absolutely identical for at least the first act. sleeping with someone at the party wouldn't lock you out of that – you go have your fun! she's going to creep away soon for some air. it's lovely that everyone is having fun, but it is a bit overwhelming. but no, don't worry about her! …no really, don't worry about her, haha, she's definitely not going to slip away while you're not looking because she's having another bout of insecurity. 

you just have to talk to her a lot, and not be too mean – it doesn't even put an end to things if you're a little mean, bc hey, that can be kind of funny. but, y'know. don't shut her down. she warms up to you fast on a surface level, but you have to give her time to actually open up and not be so skittish. 

3. Are they a polyamorous or a monogamous option? she'd happily agree to either, honestly! she has Experienced Love for more than one person at once, before, but she feels no pressing need to seek that out for herself; as for the player character, i think she'd want a bit of reassurance that anything else they seek isn't bc of dissatisfaction with her, but then she's open to it, whether or not she herself is involved!

amity: wyll! wyll ravengard! wyll: that is what I've been called a time or two, yes. why? amity: i can't believe i didn't recognize you before! you've changed some, sure, but even still! wyll: had we met before? i'm sure i would have remembered you. amity: not exactly! more like… occupied the same circles? i was too shy to go to all those fancy parties as myself; once we'd made it past the entryways, i usually hid away, or disguised myself with a spell, if i couldn't find anywhere secluded. wyll: ah, a shame – i think we would've gotten along famously, you and i. amity: i'd like to think so! anyway, i got myself… banned from all of those events after some particularly unwelcome hijinks, so it only lasted a little while.  wyll: banned? there was a time when little wyll would have been dying to know how to do the same; i never could manage it. always dragged along to every meeting and soiree father had to attend. what exactly did you do? amity: ah – a lady doesn't kiss and tell! they may consider me too uncouth and unkempt to be much of a lady, but even i know that! wyll: now i must know.

- Thoughts on their home life/family

neeeed to rewrite the motive scene in ch1 so bad. uhmmm. ya know. i think kurokawas love of streaming/social media/etc stemmed from like….. wanting to have fwends and that not really being an option for her ? she was v well loved and v well taken care of but like… having a bunch of besties who she could go have sleepovers with and stuff was never a feasible thing… so i think like. having a fanbase is vv much so a comfort thing. can’t have friends over to do their makeup but can do her own makeup while chatting with people. can’t bake for friends but can share recipes/demonstrate them and see people post their recreations. not really about her family, but it’s a bit of a home life detail! 

  - How i feel about their canonical writing/handling

i like how she’s written and handled! i actually reaaaally like what happens with her narratively for reasons i cant explain yet. buuut yea i like her she’s fun! even if her writing kinda shows how old beta is (ie was written before we had proper dra translations). “but wait couldn’t u just rewrite her personality now we know mikakos true behavior” consider: i don’t want to !!!! i wuv her she’s staying. i’ve gently changed things but just… shhh. it’s fine. <3

- The one thing i’d want to make canon about them

despite being in the… sunny and sociable archetype (i will NOT spoil… (<- trying to keep myself in check) but hopefully smthn that’s come across is how like. a big message rn is how important being besties is to preventing murders), kurokawa is like. zero help to keeping people hopeful and not wanting to murder one another in a kg setting. personality =/= how good u are at connecting with people. shes not going to actively make things worse like Some People, but simply having a cheerful nature will noooot help people stay happy and if anything can result in further isolation. it’s a matter of how u interact with others- there’s people who are more negative/pessimistic but they do better to increase the odds of the group being calm than kurokawa does.

and this is nothing against her as a character or a person!! it’s just a matter of how beta is written, and also how she’s written and handled, that i wish was more apparent. i think it’s a fun insight on her personality and who she is. she’s not consciously trying to be, like…… she’d love it if she could be uplifting and a source of hope! but she just Doesn’t form those bonds with people immediately. tsuzuna have very specific approaches and are very Conscious of how they interact with others, and kurokawa just doesn’t have theee… knowledge/skill/experience. because she’s not used to long term emotional crisis management!!!

!!! i like her design a lot actually! constantly changing little details, but the general concept of purple jacket, black t-shirt, black shorts, then socks and sneakers, is always the same, and i always like it!! it’s a bit more plain, but it allows for little details to be added (shoes w/hand drawn details, custom made jacket), which are cute and add to her character! liiike, kurokawa and uehara both have custom shoes and jackets, but they came about them, and stylized them in v different ways, and so it says smthn different while still being the same sort of concept. buuuut anyways!! she’s cute and i wuv her fit <3!! 

- A music-related thought- a song that reminds me of them, or what their music taste is, etc

For April Fool's day the GearStation Poketube starts like normal except it's being run by a sneasel in a tiny gear station uniform. Not even dubbed over, just the sneasel going "Snee Snee Snee SNEE sneasel Snee!" like it's been doing this the whole time. In the background you see two sneasels (hisuin and johto) in Ingo and Emmets uniforms being carried around by Lady Sneasler in her own total uniform (jacket included!). The chat is losing it's mind and half the comments are just "SNEE!"

That’s the entire live stream for the day. Just depot workers following the Sneasel Staff and Lady Sneasler. They even do battles on the subway, just the Sneaslers. Ingo and Emmet and the Depot Workers take orders from the Sneasels and Lady Sneasler. No one acts any different.

Everyone is losing their minds. It’s the highest viewed video on the whole PokeTube site for a while.

I do not care if Cody is your favorite character or not, you need to realize that he was used as bait to draw attention away from the fact that the Bad Batch team could not be assed to redesign the clones and instead gave them new armor which arguarbly requires more effort than just softening and rounding features, recoloring skin and texturing hair, and then copy-pasting the models.

Gear Station PokeTube channel that’s full of information about trains and the Battle Subway, except it’s run by the Depot Managers and other Staff. The Twins don’t exactly have the time to make videos betwen battling and keeping the trains running, but every so often they’ll show up in videos, perhaps just in the background. 

Those videos are always flooded with comments like “we all know the real highlight of this video was that 3 seconds of Boss Emmet in the background” and “did Boss Ingo just pick up a bench that’s supposed to be bolted down by himself?”

Sometimes they’re actually in the videos to explain something or do a Q&A but the other videos are much more fun to some fans. It’s always funny to see what shinanagans the twins get up to in the background of another video

sometimes people see zelda and go ‘haha funny adventure sword game with puzzles’ and move along with their day.

But there’s something incredibly sad about the entire timeline of Zelda, when it comes down to it. Three people, stuck in a repeating cycle never to be broken.

Did, perhaps, the ones who know of the timeline, of the prophecy, of the cycle, did they believe that it was over only to be repeated again with each incarnation? 

Do the souls of the three locked in the endless cycle cry out? Is there pain? Or do they simply not know? Not realize that it is them who they face again. A face that they know too well, a face that they have seen over and over and over again?

I wonder, truely, though, if the three dreamed of their past lives. 

If Zelda dreamed of the countless times she had been used as a hostage, the countless times she had used magic to keep herself safe but in staisis, of disguises and ninjas, of the roaring seas as a pirate, of a guardian she does not remember? 

If Link dreams of being nine years old and never changing, only to change too fast, of riding on horseback, of darkness, of wolves and a laugh he cannot place, of a sister he does not know?

If Ganon woke from dreams of his death as a child, of becoming a monsterous beast, of shadows, and agony, and a lust for power he cannot grasp, of a sword through his chest, through his face, of being shot over and over by arrows of silver and light?

I wonder if somewhere, deep down, they curse their destiny, locked in an endless cycle of suffering and loss.

we should talk more about Konpieto because i think its really cute! Here are some Konpieto FACTS!

did you know that Kobpieto is actually the result of cultural exchange!

1.)The word "konpiero" actually comes from a Portuguese word! The word "comfit" which usually pertains to most sugary candies.

2)This candy was introduced by Portuguese traders around the 16 century when it was presented to Nobunaga as an offering in exchange for spreading Christianity.

3) Traditional Konpieto takes 7-13 days to make depending on the conditions. the reason for the long process has to do with the formation of the tiny spikes.

4.) It's very difficult tp artificially produce the star-like shape you have to constantly keep it heated and turn it slowly to allow for the sugar crystals to slowly grow outward in all directions.

5) the recipe for konpieto is actually very simple! just water. sugar. flavoring and coloring. just four simple ingredients! tho be prepared to stir for a long time!

6) traditionally there was also a grain of poppy seed or sesame seed for the sugar to grab on something but in recent times these are often left out.

7) the term 金平糖の精 Is still used today for the Japanese localization of the character the "Sugar Plum Fairy" to the "Konpieto Fairy", from the ballet- The Nutcracker.

7)In the past konpieto also served as an emergency food ration. a very small amount is given in order to promote blood sugar and make the other rations more enjoyable to eat. as well as a mood booster!

9) Konpieto is also given at many celebrations, including weddings, birthdays, opening ceremonies, new Year and basically any holiday u wish to give someone a bit of happiness (my auties would send us some on new years!)

10) when presented with a BIG celebration in mind they are often presented in a (ボンボニエール) or Bonbonniere(french wow!) . These are traditionally crafted for the event but these days you can get premade ones. They are very beautiful to look at

11) surprise even though historically Konpieto has been held in such high esteem its still very easy to buy! most convenience stores have them in little bags and even cute ones can be purchased at Japanese confection shops! although they can be pricy it's always worth the purchase! many shops sell their own specialty flavors!

12. many companies use them for marketing new games and anime! even some sports!

as for the cookie recipe this is the only cookie i make every year along with a random new recipe😅 (+ a few other sweets!)

please note i did make sure peanut butter isn’t common in italy and would more than happy to share a different recipe if you can’t get it/allergic!

Peanut Blossoms

ingredients:

113 grams of butter

185 grams of peanut butter

75 grams of brown sugar. i’m getting conflicting information whether or not it’s available in italy. i’ve read that the substitution is 70 grams of demerara sugar

80 grams of white sugar

1 large egg

4 grams of vanilla extract (google says it’s not available there not if you have a substitute either it’s not necessary

250 grams 0 or 00 flour

2 grams baking soda (which i don’t think is available in your country but it’s not crucial just makes it fluffier, but if you have a substitute that i don’t know about!)

2 grams of salt

plus extra white sugar for later

chocolate of your choice

combine butter, peanut butter and both sugars until creamy

mix in (and vanilla if you have it)

add flour, baking soda substitute (if you have one) and salt til combined

roll into balls (should make about 25) coat in sugar extra and flattened slightly

place on a aluminium foil covered baking sheet leaving room to spread for about 10 minutes

the chocolate used in america (hershey’s kisses) isn’t available so use a soft/semi soft chocolate of your choice on top!

Hi! You are very sweet…and I actually just got back from a little vacation! Your cookies look really good and I think I will use your recipe for our "natalino". It would basically be Christmas among friends so it's all there: the dinner (here in Italy in fact Christmas Eve dinner is as important as Christmas lunch), the exchange of gifts, in short everything the same as real Christmas, only it's among friends! Peanut butter has also arrived here (it is quite expensive and many have learned to make it themselves hehehe, do you think it would be the same?). I noticed that often in Anglo-Saxon countries they use this baking soda and vinegar or cream of tartar to make cakes, while we here use baking powder (we have a special one for cakes), maybe I could use that! I will let you know! I love Queen and love pretty much all of their songs, my favorites are Love of my Life, Spread Your Wings, Fat Bottomed Girl and many others. Yours?

Omg I know the struggle to find the fics that fit what you want to see from your favs lol, it's esp. hard in smaller fandoms or not as popular ships. What kind of ships are you into? 👀 And what kind of fics draw you in most? 

The struggle not to rewatch haikyuu all the time, yes!! 😆 Because it gives so much serotonin lol, but I know if it wait longer and don't remember everything, it'll be better haha. Yeah, my time at the beach was v nice! We arrived back home yesterday afternoon. We didn't do much but that's actually what I wanted hahahah I was just so tired.

Ohh yes my mom bakes a lot of stuff! It's mostly for orders and we are forbidden from eating anything tho, but she does also bake for us occasionally ^^ I would be lying if I said she wasn't partially responsible for my sweet tooth...

Oh the cleaning, what a struggle LMAO it does indeed suck when you prepare a rather small thing but it leaves a lot of dirty dishes behind 😔 experimenting is really fun indeed!! I guess a meal I tend to "cook" often are different kinds of salads made with whatever is on the fridge, as they're so easy to make! I also like frying eggs and eating them with leftover rice if there's any. Grilled cheese sandwiches are also a classic. Maybe this is cheating bc nothing is actually made out of scratch, but oh well :p

I tend to like stuff with strong flavors so I think I may like duck! I don't remember the last time I ate lamb but I do remember liking it. The food fair was really fun indeed 💕 had a great time even if the weather was terrible that day. Oh I forgot about smoothies, I really like them too! Same with milkshakes.

I honestly don't remember much about what I had to read in high school 🤔 I remember reading Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and The Catcher in the Rye. Also a few books and short tales from Latin American authors. Unfortunately we couldn't choose for ourselves, the teacher decided for us :( but I liked most of what I read thankfully!

Yeah I loooove the pride and prejudice movie from 2005! I also want to watch the 1995 miniseries but I haven't had the time yet. I want to watch the Sense and sensibility movie too after I finish the book to see how faithful it is heheh

Tbh when it comes to ships I tend to like the popular (or canon) choices, like EdWin, TwiYor, RinShi, HanaNene, SasaMiya etc. But for media that has a big cast and doesn't focus on romance (like Haikyuu or Genshin) I tend to multiship and I like less common ships too!! I admit I'm not very creative for finding new ships so usually I end up drawn in by that one artists that is obsessed with a rarepair but has a really cute art style 😅 I'm trying to think about some examples but my mind is blank rn 🤔 maybe this is my sign to go back and consume more hq fanart like I did back in the day lol

Ohh I still haven't watched the last episode either, but idk, it's hard to say goodbye to this series 😭 my excuse is that I usually wait to watch it with my partner but we haven't had the opportunity to watch it together yet. I can't delay it for much longer tho or the entire episode will be spoiled for me sooner or later hahaha

was talking with @arsonhotchner yesterday about anything everything hotch related. we were talking ab different things he does once he leaves the bau and what memories he has of the team. picking up those classic housewife hobbies, including cooking. and tbh i think hotch is a good cook? and not to be the 9000th bitch talking about ‘food is a love language’ but food is a love language and i think hotch’s love is something that’s so so special. so here are some hotch-cooking headcanons:

hotch doesnt cook for the others often. he pretty much never cooks for himself and ever since jack started living with him full time he basically just cooks kid mac n cheese and chicken nuggets until his son’s palate develops a bit. the only times they really get the chance is a) the rare occasions he invites them over to his apartment b) when he goes to one of their houses and they happen to have the right ingredients for a dish and everyones hungry so he might as well or c) if he gets dropped off late at night after a bad case and its too late to pick up jack from jessica’s. still pent up from the case and knowing they wont be able to sleep for a while, hotch may cook something

morgan and hotch both value the significant impact comfort foods can have. there’s something soothing about preparing this kind of meal for someone, a special meal that makes them feel warm inside and its something hotch really enjoys. hotch expands morgan’s horizons, introducing him to the rich but simple southern cooking that settles in the stomach like a weighted blanket. it doesnt always go smoothly lol they are constantly at odds ab who has the better fried chicken recipe, so thats a point of contention. but for the most part morgan’s happy to eat whatever dish hotch makes that feels like it calls to a memory he doesn’t have. morgan favorite tho is hotch’s chicken fried steak. its quick and way easier than breaking down a whole chicken, and as long as there’s meat in the freezer then they’re usually fine on the rest of the ingredients. its actually haley’s recipe, but hotch likes that he has someone else to cook it for; its a little too depressing to cook it for himself. paired with mashed potatoes and gravy its truly a great comfort food. and its heavy, so it whatever tension has built up over the last few days eases away

garcia LOVES to cook so its really rare that hotch ever finds the need to cook for her. (he’s a better baker than she is, so he’ll bring some baked goods to her house sometimes when he comes to visit.) one year tho garcia sheepishly asks him for help with a family recipe. she tried to make it once and failed horribly, but its a difficult task to take on by yourself for the first time. hotch cant deny her anything so he rolls up his sleeves and starts working the masa for tamales. hotch hasnt ever made it either but he’s made similar pork fillings and he’s familiar enough with corn based dough to have a good idea of what to look for. its a long process and he ends up crashing on her couch waiting for them to steam. she almost cries when they turn out well, relieved she didnt shame the family lmao. she’s insistent that he’s her good luck charm and soon enough it becomes a yearly holiday tradition for hotch and jack to come over and help her make tamales for the team. hotch and jack continue the tradition on their own, but hotch can almost sense her presence, thinking maybe if he looks to his side she’ll be there with a heartwarming smile

emily’s tricky. more often than not they end up ordering take out, too exhausted to bother with cooking or cleaning up afterwards. she rarely has any proper ingredients on hand other than the very basics and some nonperishables. he typically ends up at her apartment after a case that brings them home late—too late to order anything decent other than the same two 24 hour restaurants they’ve ordered from at least a dozen times this month already. hotch is a creature of habit, but even he’s getting sick of so much of the same thing. refusing to eat the same fucking meals again he tears apart her kitchen looking for SOMETHING to make while emily mocks the futility of his search. emily’s laughs grow louder when the only thing that could remotely be gathered into some kind of meal is a meager assortment of sandwich materials. muttering something about her being worse than a college bachelor, he stubbornly insists on making something worthwhile out of this. “im gonna make the best fucking sandwich you’ve ever had in your life, emily prentiss.” with an angry finger point and everything. toasting the bread carefully, melting various cheeses, frying an egg, furiously beating together an aioli, sautéing some vegetables and mushrooms, by the time she’s finally pulled herself together and gotten her hysterical breathing under control, he presents her with his creation. still ruefully side eyeing him she takes a bite and suddenly her teasing look becomes an annoyed glare. fuck. it really is a good sandwich. it becomes a tradition: its faster than takeout and uses very few ingredients. she expands the contents of her pantry slightly (SLIGHTLY) to give him more to work with, and on those late nights when their company is all they have to cling to so they dont fall into the spiral of demented nightmares they’re left with after a case, he’ll make a couple sandwiches, she’ll grab a couple beers, and they’ll bask in fake serenity until its not pretend anymore. when he cant fall asleep in his assigned house in vermont, the midnight sandwiches bring back fond memories, even if the grief of the life he’ll never have again sours the taste

gideon doesnt cook for other people often. and when he does he almost never lets them watch, preferring to prepare in advance and disappear into the kitchen to put it all together when they arrive. but after a particularly grueling case, still early in hotch’s career w the bau, gideon takes him to his cabin to cook a meal for him. while gideons still prepping the ingredients, he looks over at the shell shocked man sitting still with a vacant look in his eye. hoping the younger agent would appreciate the meditative process of preparing a meal, he pulls hotch into the kitchen and gives him instructions. its one of the first time gideon’s really cooked with someone, and honestly he’s a little surprised at how easy it is to walk hotch through the steps of the meal thats been passed through his family for generations. by the time the risotto’s nearly done, there’s a little more life in hotch’s eyes and his movements arent as stiff and robotic as they were at the start. they spend the night in silence, other than the occasional directions, but when they sit down to enjoy the product of their labor conversation trickles slowly until it becomes natural. soon the pair are laughing as though they hadn’t witnessed the worst things either of them had ever seen just hours prior.

rossi, meanwhile, has taught hotch plenty of recipes over the years. by the time rossi returns to the bau, half the time hotch comes over for dinner, rossi makes hotch cook. hotch always makes some wry comment about rossi sullying his reputation as a host, but he’s happy to help and is always secretly pleased to make something his mentor would enjoy. he’s learned a myriad of southern italian recipes at this point, but on a whim he decided to make gideon’s dish. rossi lounges with a glass of wine to watch the unit chief work and as he pieces together the combination of different ingredients, he’s stunned when he realizes its one of the meals gideon would make for rossi. hotch wouldnt know—hotch couldnt know—but gideon and rossi used to cook for each other more than they would for anyone else. he quickly blinks the tears from his eyes at the reminder of his old friend, the familiar scent of creamy risotto and braised meat cutting straight to his heart and bringing up memories he hasnt thought of in years of two friends retreating to their bubble of home-cooked meals and long talks into the night. he does well to hide his emotions while hotch finishes cooking, but the tears fall on his plate when hotch presents the dish exactly as gideon did all those years ago. hotch is worried at first but after reassurances and praises, he settles slightly. the meal gets added to the regular menu rotation to the hotchner-rossi dinner nights and hotch always associates the dish with the two most influential figures in his life.

hotch finds himself playing the opposite role when it comes to reid. when the young genius is shut down and far too quiet after a case, hotch will drive him home and settle reid on the couch while he flits around reid’s kitchen for something to whip up. the boy (he’s a man, hotch knows that, but there’s something about the younger agent that always seems to remind hotch of a child; he distantly wonders if this was how gideon and rossi looked at him) has a weak appetite when troubled. well versed in those kind of limitations from his own experiences, oftentimes the easiest thing to make and eat in those times is soup. nothing too acidic or hotch is sure reid wont be able to keep it down. the oil bubbles visible in broth-based stews further nauseate the boy. through trial and error, wanting to find something at least slightly nutritious that wont upset his stomach, hotch finds squash soup is the best thing for reid to eat during those times. potato soup makes a good substitute—especially when its too late to make a quick run to the corner market for the fresh ingredients—but the brighter color is more alluring to the young genius and hotch feels a little better ab the health benefits. he makes enough for a family of ten, hoping having the leftovers will encourage reid to continue eating the next few days until he regains his faculties. its something hotch continues to make for jack when he’s sick, but even when he makes it for his son he finds his mind drifting to spencer
