it drives me insane how wally views his relationship with barry because he's always been of the mind that he needs to somehow "earn" his love whereas barry has literally never imposed that stipulation onto him, ever. and yet still wally feels this unending pressure to live up to the standards barry set during his tenure of the flash to the point where one of his greatest insecurities is about the possible negative reaction barry would have to wally stepping into the role of the flash himself. all of this fear and longing for approval and in reality there is literally nothing wally could do for barry to stop from unconditionally loving him. just. yeah.

We made it to the month of love! I hope you all feel loved and you are receiving a great amount of love from everyone in your life!

Since it's the month of love I want to write this prompt session about love of course! But this time, there's a bit of a twist with it!

The theme for February is:

Uh oh, I'm In Love

Here are my rules:

1.) You may choose ONE character from my list Here. It’ll have the list of characters that I write for or have written for in the past.

*(If you have a character not listed that you wish for me to write, PLEASE MESSAGE ME AND CLEAR IT WITH ME FIRST TO SEE IF I CAN OR WILL DO IT!)*

2.) This session has only one list. As you ask, please be as ACCURATE AS POSSIBLE: include BOTH the character and request number you’d like me to write for you

Example: May I have Azriel from ACOTAR with #3?

*I write out the requests on a first come first serve. I will try my best to fulfill every request that comes my way, but please bear in mind I work full-time as a teacher. Because of that, I’ll be busy most of the day so please be patient and I’ll write in my spare time as much as I can :) *

they’re dancing together and character a has been feeling it creep up on them for a while, so when character b slips on air and falls, character a softly thinks oh. i love this person

your character’s friend pulls your character aside around the midway point of your story and says “hey i like them” and then your main character is gripped with such a violent dread that that’s when they realize they’ve been in love the whole time

third character goes “why do you care?” and they just go “because i just do.” “but why?” and then boom accidental confession OR —

character a didn’t know it either, until they were in a screaming argument with character b and they scream “yeah, but i love you!”

it’s something small, the most small thing they’ve done. maybe they gave them a smile across the room, or left a little note on their locker, but the character just thinks yeah. i’m screwed

your main character is going on a walk and thinks of buying something for their love interest and then they’re like oh yeah i definitely love them

they’re talking regularly and character a stops the conversation and goes “wait wait wait. i think… i love you.” and character b is like “what?”

character a is getting nursed back to health when they realize they’re in love with the person nursing them to health— or, that they in fact love someone else

your character has to witness their love interest with someone else and then goes oh.

your character visits their love interest’s grave for the first time since their passing

Has anyone considered the thought of like. Maybe some of the anger Wally displays towards Barry is because he came back from death a different person kinda?

He had an entirely different upbringing and went from "Knows a Guy" (that's so many of his old stories it's fantastic. Why does he know the local gorilla actor? He's just like that) to being isolated and alienated and then also had depression on top of that.

Imagine your dad comes back from the dead after leaving you with such a dark and thick shadow to crawl out of- that he only comes back AFTER you crawled out of- and then he's not even the same guy. He's not even the man that you remember because not only have you and everyone else built him up in your memory but half his life before becoming a hero was different.

And then. y'know. The whole "accidentally trapped most of the speedsters in the speedforce" thing. And also depression can change a person. And- there's a lot okay??

Barry after Flash Rebirth and especially after the new 52 reboot is a very different character to how he started/the man Wally knew as a kid and even now like. They look the same age??? Sometimes??? that's gotta be weird. I know they're speedsters but STILL...

...

Uhhhh anyways

TLDR: Some of Wally's anger at Barry is because he's irrevocably no longer the same as he was before his death

This isn't something I would describe as a prominent or even intentional theme, but there's something fascinating to me about how TAZ Balance characters associated with composing and performing music are almost entirely correlated with either being forgotten, or having an incredibly warranted fear of being forgotten.

Johann is obviously the latter. I have an ongoing fic about his parallels with Barry — who plays piano, and who is the character we see spend the most time knowing he has been forgotten by people dear to him, and grappling with it. And I've seen the Johann and Lup dynamic get well-deserved attention in AUs where she lives, and they get to relate to each other as violinists — yet the parallels are at their strongest in canon, where Lup is the "most" dead of all the undead characters, the "most" forgotten, the most reduced to a near-invisible specter haunting the narrative, and the most like Johann's worst nightmare.

There's even a parallel with Davenport, who is a beautiful singer, and whose life story and dreams and achievements are all completely erased. So that's three different characters whose forgotten stories — which Johann obviously does not know — still serve to silently justify Johann's fear of the same fate, emphasizing just how likely it is that it could come to pass. How yes, it would be that horrifying.

And as a non-musician, but an artist of a kind myself... it all resonates. The fear of one's legacy being forgotten is a common fear in general, but it has a particular type of teeth to it for us creatives, who shudder in terror at the thought of a masterwork — that feels like a piece of one's soul — being forgotten, let alone cut short by untimely tragedy.

But that's why I treasure, so dearly, that all of these musically inclined characters — Barry, Lup, Davenport, Johann — are not forgotten permanently, but instead immortalized by the Story and Song, no matter the varying degrees of alive and dead that they wind up in the end. I treasure the parallels between these characters that say being forgotten is a grounded, reasonable thing to fear; that it is scary — but that no matter what, memory will still find a way.

I'M BACK! Im so sorry for being MIA in our prompt sessions all of March and most of April. I lost my job at my school early March and had to go job hunting, and I think doing prompts was not health for me at the time because of my mental health not in the best space. BUT I found a job about a month ago and I was attempting to get back into a working rhythm again. Now that I am, I'm back to writing again!
