You’re lying on yours and James’ bed when it happens. Wallowing in misery, missing your lovely boyfriend, feeling as if the minutes are ticking by slower every day. It’s awful. You’re so miserable you almost miss the click of the front door, the scuff of shoes on the mat. The next noise, however, is hard to miss.

“Darling?”

You shoot up, head spinning but the dizziness gets blatantly ignored. You scramble off the bed just as James’s voice rings out again.

“Where are you, honey?”

You go sprinting out of the bedroom, so fast you almost trip on your own feet. You save yourself with pure adrenaline and the desire to squish James with the biggest hug of his life. You’re emerging into the living room in mere seconds, breathless and frazzled and looking frantically for your boyfriend who’s been gone far too long, in your opinion.

And there he is, standing just shy of the front door. He’s prettier than you remember, prettier than the James you’ve imagined in your head for the past four days and ten hours. Your heart skyrockets.

“James!” You say, and go barrelling towards him.

He catches you halfway, dropping his bag carelessly in his haste to scoop you up in his arms. Like always, his arms go around your waist and yours go over his shoulders.

He’s laughing giddily and you’re so happy you can’t speak. He buries his face in your neck, smelling of all things James. His heady cologne, his Camellia and Lily shampoo, a hint of grass and sweat. You breathe him in, run your hands over his soft hoodie that sports his team colours, feel his lovesick sigh wash over your neck.

James finally manages to break your euphoric silence, but only because he’s squeezing you so hard you let out a half-groan half-gasp.

“Jamie,” you gasp, pushing at his big arms. “Y’gonna break my ribs.”

James grumbles but loosens his grip, pulling away slightly so he can look at you, his hands a familiar weight on your waist.

“Hi, darling,” he says, breathless and eyes bright.

His hair’s a mess, somehow longer than four days ago, all curly and messy and falling over his face. You beam and get on your toes to push a lock away from his forehead.

“Hi, Jamie,” you say, equally giddy. You can barely speak around your smile. “I missed you.”

James pulls a face. “I missed you more, actually,” he says matter-of-factly. “Lemme kiss you, pretty girl.”

You let him, though he doesn’t really give you a choice. He presses his lips to yours in a kiss so fervent you almost go stumbling backwards. James’s hands are firm on your waist, holding you in place like he never wants to leave your side again. The kiss says he’s missed you. He’s really missed you. It makes you totally giddy.

You giggle when his tongue swipes across your bottom lip. You pull away with swollen lips and a hand on his chest.

“James,” you chide. You giggle again when he tries to chase your lips, pushing at his chest gently. “I know you missed me, but don’t you want to tell me all about your trip?”

James shakes his head. “It’ll bore you, angel.” He puckers his lips, looking awfully kissable. “Let’s just kiss forever.”

You roll your eyes. “Okay, loverboy,” you drawl, tapping his firm chest twice. “I think you need a breather.”

You pull away, step out of his hold and leave him pouting in the entryway. “Are you hungry?”

You know he’s about to make some stupid flirty comment before he even opens his mouth.

“Hungry for you,” he says, wiggling his eyebrows.

You groan loudly and slap your hands over your face.

“James, please,” you say, anguished.

James laughs, a pretty, familiar sound that has your heart doing backflips. Before you know it he’s got his arms around you again. You refuse to take your hands from your face, burning with embarrassment and lovesickness.

“I’m kidding, sweetheart,” James says, his mouth a hair’s width from your ear. “I’ll tell you about my trip, if you want.”

When you don’t budge he slides his arms up your arms and tugs at your wrists. “Come out, will you? Wanna see your pretty face.”

You do as he says, only because you miss looking at his face too. He beams.

“I knew it,” he says after a moment of studying your face.

“Knew what?”

“You’re still the prettiest girl in the entire world.”

You groan.

"you look at my face a lot" by natigail: i credit this fic for getting me into reading phanfic again in 2024 <3 one of the first ones i read post-hiatus and i've returned to it countless times! it makes my heart jump, just so sweet and so them. the slittening(s) were such an iconic moment i can't believe it's been 6+ months since them but i love the little moments like dan describing phil's hair colour to a sephora worker, always wanting to know more about each other and the soft intimacy.

"the angel in the marble" by ivylakes: OHH MY GOODNESS this one is artttt. this one is my fave of the post-phlondeing fics i can just see and feel everything that happens, the loving, lazy intimacy, and following this week's t-shirt events it absolutely cements my HC that angel is a nickname for our philly. introspection, hair-kissing, body worship- i eat it up (im having a thing for mirrors in fics rn so there's also that)

"slumber party" by possumdnp: if i wasn't already clear reality-based fics really just do it for me and i love this one!! slumber party is one of my favourite recent-ish gaming vids and i just love the cozy comfort vibes of having a sleepover and getting a little flirty with your best friend/crush going on 15 years <3

"after the birthday stream" by trashcanfromgallifrey: the birthday stream ignited something in all of us but this is just such a perfect depiction of (possible) events after hehe. feels so them, just love the loving intimacy and shower activities and fluffy endings with cake <3 (shoutout hannah ily!!)
