My roommate is humming some melody to himself and I can hear him through the wall. I get to fall asleep to this safe, joyful, calm sound every night and in exchange, I wake him up with my own music.
He is better at reading Hebrew than I am, and we sit often together to read a page together, of the autobiography my grandmother sent me on Google docs. It is too much for me to read alone, but he sits and listens to me try, and he reads to me when I get tired.
We sit and study in the living room together, me doing my homework, him designing a synth for fun. He gifted me a shirt from his mother's charity and I wear it with pride. He taught me to cook a soup and we ate it together on the porch.
Sometimes, I get out of the shower, and hear him fiddling around on the piano in the living room. It's a wonderful thing.
There is no point to this post. No romance, I promise. I'm just soothed and calm and happy to have such a lovely roommate.

For some reason this song title reminds me of The Man Who Fell To Earth in a way
Like partially it's because of the word 'subterranean' since Bowie's track Subterraneans from Low was initially written when he tried to do the soundtrack for tmwfte and other than that it's just the feeling of the song ig? I know it's not what it's really about, that was just my first association, it is really beautiful though (me and my piano teacher went on a tangent about Radiohead today so that's what I've been listening to all evening lol)
#tbh I've kinda been hesitant to listen to them before because I was just really annoyed by creep#and I found other of their more famous songs like karma police or high and dry alright but not too interesting harmonically#but recently I finally gave in and listened to kid a and it was so beautiful and weird#definitely a fan of the way they mix acoustic and electronic sounds#and the melodies!!!#I had to get used to thom yorke's voice for a bit but now that I listen to it I do like it#I love how our piano lesson conversations evolve because we were just looking at a strange satie piece#and then it reminded my teacher of everything in its right place#so of course we talked about radiohead#and he told me how it was the band that got him out of his four-year-long jazz hyperfixation#and then later we talked a bit about music studies which evolved into a conversation about math and the point of it#because he took calculus for a year as a second course when he was studying jazz#my piano teacher is the best really#radiohead#the man who fell to earth#tmwfte#david bowie#Spotify

My voice is feeling a little better today, so I did a cover song for fun. This is "Sur mon épaule" by Les Cowboys Fringants, a Québécois band I love. I think this is one of the most poignant and romantic songs I've ever heard ❤️ Lyrics below.
Also apologies for my accent, I am but an American :')
ENGLISH LYRICS:
On My Shoulder
Do you remember the time When life seemed sweeter? It’s been a while since then Sometimes we lose the beat When your fortune consisted of 30 cents And you carried that happiness in your pocket It was long before realizing that everything Is held together with wires
Rest your head upon my shoulder So that my love can brush against you You, who need it so much It’s been ten years of time and dust That we’ve been facing the winter wind Together, we’re not afraid of anything Tell yourself tonight, my darling You’re not alone in this world
Here below, when we bail It looks as if we learn from suffering That’s probably nothing but pop psychology When you get down to it, nothing makes sense But tonight, I caught a glimpse Of the tear-soaked handkerchief in your pocket I don’t like knowing that you Are held together with wires
Rest your head upon my shoulder…
We grow older, years go by Each of us does what we can We run, we fall, we get up again We try to be happy A lifetime of patching the holes As time trickles out of our pockets In a world that, at every turn Is held together with wires
Rest your head upon my shoulder…
[I dashed off this translation in about five minutes, and I admit I allowed myself a bit of poetic license to try to get the emotional effect across. But if I got anything seriously wrong, please do let me know!]

The Role of Acoustics in Building Design and Construction
Acoustics play a crucial role in building design and construction, directly impacting occupant comfort, health, productivity, and safety. Effective acoustic design ensures that noise levels are controlled, reducing disturbances and enhancing the overall experience in residential, commercial, and industrial spaces.
Building projects require expertise in noise control, vibration mitigation, and sound optimization to achieve optimal acoustic performance. Acoustic testing consultation is essential in ensuring that buildings meet necessary sound standards and provide a comfortable environment for occupants.

Acoustical Testing
Acoustical testing evaluates how effectively building components such as windows, doors, walls, and flooring manage sound. By assessing the performance of these elements, professionals can refine designs to enhance noise reduction and create acoustically optimized environments.
Acoustic testing covers a broad range of building products and technologies, including traditional materials such as walls and floors, as well as advanced solutions like noise-absorbing panels and smart acoustic systems.
Accredited Acoustical Lab Testing
A well-equipped acoustical lab provides precise data on the performance of building materials and structural elements. Acoustic testing consultants utilize state-of-the-art equipment and methodologies to ensure compliance with national and international standards.
Laboratory acoustic tests typically include:
Sound Transmission Loss (STL) Testing: Measures the effectiveness of walls, floors, and ceilings in blocking sound.
Sound Absorption Testing: Evaluates how well materials absorb sound and minimize reverberation.
Impact Sound Insulation (IIC) Testing: Assesses footfall noise impact on different flooring structures.
Airborne Sound Insulation (STC) Testing: Determines the capacity of walls and doors to block airborne noise.
Acoustical Field Testing
Field testing is conducted in real-world environments to determine the effectiveness of acoustic treatments and designs. Unlike laboratory tests, field testing accounts for variations in installation, construction methods, and real-use scenarios.
Common field tests include:
Apparent Sound Transmission Classification (ASTC): Measures real-world performance of walls and ceilings in blocking sound.
Outdoor/Indoor Transmission Class (OITC): Evaluates sound insulation against low-frequency noise from traffic and transportation sources.
Apparent Impact Insulation Class (AIIC): Determines the impact noise insulation of floor/ceiling assemblies on-site.
Noise Isolation Class (NIC): Assesses sound control effectiveness between adjacent spaces in a building.
Noise Assessments
Detailed noise assessments, also known as noise impact assessments or noise surveys, help to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements while reducing noise pollution. Noise assessments are particularly important in sectors such as industrial operations, construction, and transportation, where excessive noise can negatively affect workers and nearby communities.
These assessments play a key role in identifying noise sources, measuring their impact, and recommending mitigation strategies. Acoustic consultants analyze the noise environment and provide tailored solutions to minimize sound disturbances.
Acoustical Consulting
An experienced acoustic testing consultant plays a vital role in ensuring that buildings meet required soundproofing standards. With expertise in acoustic design, noise control, and sound optimization, consultants help developers, architects, and engineers integrate effective noise management solutions into building projects.
In Saudi Arabia, DSP Consultants specialize in comprehensive acoustic testing consultation services, offering customized solutions to optimize sound performance in diverse environments. Through rigorous testing, expert analysis, and practical recommendations, DSP Consultants ensure that projects achieve superior acoustic quality while complying with regulatory standards.
By incorporating professional acoustic consultation, developers can enhance occupant comfort, reduce noise-related complaints, and create spaces that foster productivity and well-being. Investing in proper acoustic testing and consultation is key to achieving long-term success in modern building design and construction.

Gotta write a production report for two songs we recorded and I'm gonna have to do at least a third of it for a group of 6 after having done about half of the recording and editing work for one of these two projects...all that cause I still haven't found an internship so I can't just say : do it without me.
It's a little exhausting. I know they will work if I really push them but they'll do it super late and I'll have to revise it when I get back home from the small concert I've allowed myself to go instead of my portuguese lesson (brazilian artist so it's all good my teacher said, I still feel bad) and I'll have to run around tomorrow morning to print it and I'll assume the cost again.
It's...yeah it's exhausting. And my thesis is so far behind, and I still have no internship. I wanna keep strong but man that diploma is slipping away from me. I'm not even sure I have good enough grades at my exams now !
#yeah ok the anxiety is back#I have meds that are over the counter so like not great stuff but I'll just chug that down and hope it does something#plus I'm super stressed cause some of them are coming to a small party at my place (for once that I'm alone without my brother there)#and I was talkign with one of them (the closer one) about maybe coming out to them and he said yeah if you want :)#but now one of them is bringing his girlfriend and I am noooot doing that but also my place is a very intimate space for me#I so rarely invite people over because of that#I should stop drinking coffee it might be helping#my head is killing me#I'm so close to giving up on my studies all together and reimburse my mom#but I don't want to !! the people that inspire me the people i look up to the people i want to be like fought for it and never gave up#I'm not even sure I'm made for these studies. I have no ambition I just want to make people happy with music but the kind I love doesn't#really require me ? cause it's mostly small concerts with acoustics instruments#maybe I should have gone into idk social work but I'm pretty sure I would be way too anxious for it same reason i can't be a therapist#and the situation at home isn't much better rn#I really need to breath rn or I'm gonna be out of commission for so long that it will be even more stressful to do the reports at midnight#I'm gonna chicken out tonight as well and just stand there and listen and not talk to the artist afterwards and try to use the portuguese#I've learned nooo I'm just gonna default to english or french

I know that libraries are no longer quiet study areas and are mostly community centers now. Which is awesome. But the acoustics in my specific library are like. So astoundingly bad. Like I should not be able to hear moderate volume conversations on the other side of the building. This place is a sensory hell for me even if it's quiet compared to other public spaces. Why was a library designed this way. Why.
#if i hear one more sound im going to kill something#impossible to read in here if u have sensory issues like at all#how ppl still manage to study in here is beyond me#lineko.txt#granted im trying to read on the job but also if i wasnt working.#this is not an accessible place for me at all#obnoxiously bright lights no dark areas#awful acoustics and no quiet areas#awful awful awful
