[Image ID: a pink banner with corporate clip art of a black man and woman reading in comfy armchairs surrounded by piles of books. It says "This august fall in love with read-a-romance month in white text. End image ID.]
Hey y'all! I wanted to let you know that Bookshop.org is doing another cool sale this month after my last post about their anti-prime days blew up! The whole month of August, select romance titles are 15% off! I've put all the lists up on my shop if you'd like to give them a persual! We have titles in adult romance, adult lgbtq+ romance, romantasy, and "books headed for the big screen."
IIRC from the anti-prime day event, they do shipping to the US and UK, but not internationally. I don't know if that was just for the anti-prime day free shipping event, or if they have international shipping for regular orders. I, myself, am based out of the US.
In case you're like me, and you're not a fan of romance, I also have curated lists on my storefront for Indie books I love, nonfiction, and other trad-pub classics/favorites!
This is an affiliate link, so if you purchase anything through my storefront, I will get a small commission. You can also donate a portion of your sale to a local/independent bookstore of your choice through Bookshop.org's platform, which is why I've chosen to partner with them, instead of companies like Amazon or Barnes and Nobles.

A Candle, Love, and a Butt
You won’t believe what I found today on Amazon… a candle with a label that reads, “Just wanted to remind you that I love you and your butt is perfect.” Naturally, I burst out laughing. I know, I know—such a random thing to get so tickled over, right? But as soon as I saw it, my mind immediately went back to when I first met the love of my life.
He used to tell me the sweetest things, but one thing he’d always say, without fail, was that my butt was perfect. And he’d say it with that goofy grin of his, like he just couldn't help himself. It became our little thing, and it made me feel so loved and, well, a bit embarrassed too. Because, I’ll admit, I’d blush every single time.
Fast forward to now, and, while the sweet words have turned into cheeky actions, the meaning behind it hasn’t changed. He’ll still smack and squeeze my butt to show me how much he loves it, and honestly? I still blush, just like I did when we first started dating.
That candle was such a funny reminder of those little moments between us—the ones that make me smile and feel loved in the most random but perfect way. It’s funny how love shows up in unexpected places, like a silly candle on Amazon. I might just have to get one. After all, every reminder of him is a reminder of how lucky I am.
If you want to grab one for yourself (or as a gift for someone special), you can find it through my affiliate link below! Not only will you be supporting my blog, but you’ll also get a reminder that your butt is perfect too. 😉

Buy Me!
Isn’t it the best when something as simple as a candle can bring back all those feelings?

Thanks, MagLag!
If you’re not mad about Honey, you should be.
Watch MagLag’s video.
But don’t feel bad if you got bamboozled, this was a highly technical scam. These guys at Honey knew how to manipulate cookies and the influencer economy. And of course it was PayPal behind it.
So learn the important lesson and take back the power! Understand how we were manipulated and fight back!
Cat girls, this is another one for you! Get em!!!

Head's up - CDJapan is currently taking limited pre-orders for Kentarou Miura's "The Artwork of Berserk" Exhibition art book. This is a rare opprotunity, as it's usually only available to purchase at the exhibition in Japan. You can pre-order the art book (it's labeled as having a July 31, 2025 release) using my affiliate link on CDJapan here! But remember: CDJapan can only take limited pre-orders, so once they're filled, that's it!

Scrambly Gaming App
*this link is an affiliate link* I started my "game for pay" app journey with Mistplay, so I'll be comparing most of the apps I review here to that. Mistplay used to pay out pretty instantly. However, recently they seem to use a 3rd party to pay out which now seems to take a couple of days. Paypal payouts are my default unless an app doesn't offer them, and then I'll usually go for Google Play credit to boost the other apps that do offer Paypal.
I haven't been on Scrambly for long, but I was able to cash out $1.00 pretty quickly by playing Merge Hotel Empire: Design. This is your typical merging game, and it's fun enough. I didn't see too many ads and it was enjoyable enough to play for that. The payout went through quickly - that being said you DO have to verify your identity by uploading your ID and a selfie.
Feel free to ask any questions about either the game or the scrambly app. I will post an update at a later time after I've been on the platform longer.

I was trying to update my bookshop.org storefront with all the current sales (I gave up, it's too many and I genuinely cannot spend hours doing that when I make less than two dollars a month on this particular side hustle), and I realized. They have Girl Genius on there.
Now, to be clear, the comic is free to read online, and has been for decades.
However, if you want physical copies, I've put them all in my fiction section. I get a wee kickback, an additional portion goes directly to independent bookstores instead of Amazon, and I'm pretty sure it's favorable to authors as well.
That said, they do have their products available more directly on topatco, where the costs are less favorable to you the purchaser and appears to have a higher shipping cost, but a greater portion of the profits go to them... maybe? I'm not actually sure. As far as I can tell, Topatco is both a vendor and the publisher, and does sell the books to retailers based on their FAQ (in this case the retailer is bookshop.org) so maybe the Foglios make the same amount either way?
(I am trying to give you all the information so you can decide what works best for you. If shaving off a few dollars of shipping is important, or you want to bundle in books by other authors, well, bookshop.org is probably your best bet. If you want to bundle your book purchase with some of the other GG merch, then ignore me and go straight to topatco, they have the medals and iron-on applique chibi jagers and whatnot.)
(Also, you can get an audiobook of the third novel, but they're only available in CD form. So. Unlikely to be popular but here's a link anyway.)
#all of the the bookshop.org stuff is affiliate links. I have nothing to do with topatco but it feels disingenuous to skip it#bookshop org#affiliate link#phoenix talks#girl genius

do you guys think acorn is worth it if you don't make a lot of purchases?
Anon is asking this because Acorns typically works by rounding your purchases up to the next dollar and investing the difference. So if you don't make a lot of purchases, you won't be getting many round-ups.
And yes, we still think it's worth it because you can ALSO schedule Acorns to make small recurring investments. Most investment vehicles have a minimum amount for recurring investments. But with Acorns, you can set it to invest $5 a month or so, and it still works.
It's a micro-investing platform, so the emphasis is on using small amounts to grow your portfolio. So yeah, even if you don't get many roundups, we still think it's worth it. That's why we partner with them.

Browse select titles on my affiliate page!
Bookshop.org is a great way to support your local independent bookstores because part of your purchase will go back to a store of your choice when you check out. If you purchase anything through my link, I'll also get a small commission, so you'll also be supporting an indie author!
They do cool sales like this pretty regularly so I try to post about them whenever they come up. There are 7 lists this time ranging from kids lit, MG, YA, Adult fiction and nonfiction, poetry, and even cookbooks!
