So if it wasn't very clear, cc!Dream is Vi and c!Dream is Jinx in this au. I think to prevent confusion cc!Dream will go by Clay in this story (or something else, if there's a better option). Sapnap is Ekko, and George is Caitlyn. Im very heavily leaning towards making Bad Silco, which uh,,, kind of leaves Skeppy to be Vander?? So still work shopping there.

Dream's new name will of course be "Nightmare" after Act I.

Im honestly still working out all the details for this au, because I want to follow the general plot of Arcane while also staying true to cc and c characteristics. For example, cc!Dream isn't really a fighter so I'm thinking about making him a successful inventor instead, who uses handcrafted weapons to fight like Powder did. c!Dream in turn, could also still be a tinkerer but his inventions don't work like his big brother's.

I'll share more when I figure things out! Also definitely making more redraws.

Hi, me again! In the buttercup HOA au, does Grian need to eat in his code bodies? Or is he like one of Martyn's lore Watchers where he only feeds off of emotions? Or maybe every time he makes a new body, he cannibalizes the code of the old one if Scar doesn't need it for snacking? I assume Scar eats normally with the exception of occasional flesh, and Mumbo, being a sort of parasite, either can make his host eat to sustain himself or just slowly eats the host and changes them every once in a while.

Also is there a reason Grian needs to keep making new bodies, like the code can only hold itself together for a short while before it starts decaying, or maybe because he can't eat it starts to die and that'd why he builds new ones?

I did not, in fact, find motivation to write anything today because my roommates distracted me with watching pirates of the carribean, but the ideas have been bouncing around in my brain all day long.

In concern of Grian eating... I really like Martyn's interpretation of it with the watchers feeding off of emotions. Would also explain why Grian loves to make games and pranks all the time since he primarily feeds on positive emotions. Although I do believe his primary reason is always to make his friends happy, the benefit of being able to absorb their happiness for his own gain is an added bonus. I like to think the more emotions he gets, the more powerful he can be. Meanwhile, if he doesn't get enough to feed, he'll just dwindle out and fade back to become part of the universe.

My headcanon for the Watchers are that they're the main force to drive the world so it can continue living by making things interesting. Consider it like a book or a movie or even a game. Nobody would play it if nothing good happens, and if they stopped playing, the world within that game would just stop altogether. This is the primary worldbuilding I use when using the concept of minecraft inherently being a game as their actual world. The watchers are creatures created by the universe to keep it going by rousing powerful emotions like sadness, grief, or happiness. In this note, I am also a firm "the watcher's are morally grey" believer. They simply have their own goals and do what it takes to get it.

I think you're quite spot on with Scar and Mumbo's way of feeding! Mumbo is definitely a parasite and I agree with the fact that he makes his host eat for him to eat aswell.

As for Grian's body, my current headcanon of it at the moment is that unlike normal players who treat the world as real life and bodies, etc, as organic, Grian has ascended when he became a watcher and could see the world as what it truly is (code, for simplicity). As such, he treats his body and how he uses it more like an actual minecraft skin. Normal rules of real life and logic that ground a player also don't really apply that much to him now.

For why he has to change it every few days or so... I just think that Grian is just too weak or simply doesn't know that much about code yet to make a sustaining body (think of him like a highschool intern developer that's still learning how to code). I like to think that Grian's current bodies are being held together by duct tape and glue 😭 he doesn't really know what he's doing yet, hence the body malfunctioning or just simply disintegrating back to the universe's code (at this point, he would just give the body to Scar for him to snack on. Just because it's all useless code to him doesn't mean that it's not organic fresh meat for Scar). I also like your suggestion on the body decaying because it couldn't eat... maybe this can also be integrated since the entire organic world & code stuff is separated much like the 4th and 5th dimensions. It would SEEM that the body is rotting due to lack of nutrition, but it could also be a code error on Grian's part, who knows :3

i don't think i have it in me to watch philza minecraft's too many hours hardcore streams, so I'm just curious- how does he do lore for his hardcore series?

I can give you the info I know, and I am 100% certain there are people who can give more thorough explanations and/or correct me. @rakkuntoast is someone on tumblr who I know is much more informed than me about Philza lore.

Most of Philza's hardcore streams are him building these massively cool builds. But, the Lore of the series is that he is more of an archeologist or historian, discovering these locations and the story behind them.

A lot of the Lore is delivered by him explaining and narrating the story of the world as he builds. Occasionally, he will go through the whole story of the world for new viewers who don't already know. And sometimes, happy accidents or jokes just become a part of the story.

The main lore is this.

The Enderking, a God who ruled the End, was greedy and thought he deserved to be in control of everything, so he set about stealing everything for himself.

He tried to pull in parts of the Nether, but was stopped by the Blaze Empress, goddess of the Nether. Part of the Nether is still affected by this tussle, seen in the Nethervoid build. Also, during this clash, two of the Blaze Empress's BEST warriors known as He and She were separated. They were in love, but never confessed to each other their feelings. Now they are just lava pools, separated forever. (He and She were added because Kristin convinced Phil to put a smiley face in a lava pool and the Lore sprung from there).

Then, there is Flowerfall. Flowerfall was the home of the Ocean Overlord (Affectionately called Ocean Himbo by the Crows and I had to actually google what his title was because I couldn't think of it other than Himbo). The Ocean Overlord was a god of, well, the ocean. He lived in this massive underwater palace. When the Enderking was stealing parts of the world, the Ocean Overlord was asleep. He was asleep through the whole War, actually. And the Enderking nearly ripped his house out from under him! It was only another deity, Rose, who stopped the Enderking from stealing the Ocean Overlord's house.

The Gods (Minus beloved Himbo) fought against the Enderking and kicked him out of their realms. I'm not remembering exactly, but I think that in this tussle and the return of the Ocean Overlord's home, the sea flooded the End, creating Endlantis (someone correct me on this, if its wrong). The Enderking was slain (however, he's a god so he's not REALLY dead). His corpse lies underneath Endlantis, always possible that he could return.

There are a ton of details that are added onto this, but those details are really only fleshed out in one-off moments within Phil's streams. Like, Phil adding a tree at Spawn where the Blaze Empress and Rose send each other gifts and messages because they are such good friends (Crows know they are gal pals, even if Phil doesn't confirm it). Others are derived from accidents like the Battle of Endlantis, which was where multiple dragons were accidentally spawned, and Phil had to kill them off. Or when Phil lost his trident in the void, he made it big and existant in the newest season as if it had transcended dimensions.

There are other gods that we haven't been introduced to, as well. I think there are 2 more that he hasn't named. However, yeah, its kind of hard to keep up with all of the Lore if you aren't able to constantly watch it. I know there is a really good video of Philza explaining his Hardcore Lore to, I THINK, Slimecicle? But I couldn't find it. If anyone knows where it is, please link yes!

Streamer Jayce definitely seems like a LOL player who’d heavily grinds the game, and would *know* the lore extensively, even better than the devs/writers themselves. And in a world where LOL is the exact same, even with game Viktor and Jayce remaining unchanged, streamer Jayce would also definitely make jokes about himself and modern Viktor related to those game characters

oooh I've sorta been imagining a slightly separate AU where the streamer AU is still modern, but reader and the gang blow up before League of Legends was released their characters and bases the visuals off of them. Jayce and the Machine Herald were both introduced in like 2011/2012, so the slightly less modern streamer AU would take place circa late 00s early 2010s which is silly because that's such a different landscape.

You start out on Youtube, playing the original Minecraft, Sims 1 and 2, Bioshock, the old Resident Evil games and Silent Hill, Jayce playing WoW and LoL, the old Zelda games, Halo, and Assassins Creed. Your aesthetic looks quite different, pink and black foam sound mufflers decorating the back of your space, pink glass beads covering the door behind you, a fluffy pink rug on your floor, PlayBoy throw pillows next to your cheetah print stuffed animals on your hot pink velveteen bed. Don't even get me started on your closet. Juicy tracksuits galore, so many roll over leggings and matching tube tops, sparkly halter tops, low rise jeans, gold and silver hoops, a collection of belly button rings, and so many Chanel heels. You also definitely had one of those bedazzled BlackBerry's.

Viktor is more present in this AU, you both having a separate series on the channel called Multiplayer Monday where you and him film videos playing together. I wouldn't say he fits into the emo-boy look. Think less Rodrick Heffley and more season 1 Spencer Reid with less greasy looking hair. Lots of sweaters, lots of button ups and academic prints like argyle or plaid, lots of beat-up converse, old messenger bags, and comfy oversized jackets. He's still just as sassy, but he really does get into the games. I see his day job being something like an early day's computer scientist who really gets into the craft that goes into coding a game.

You and Jayce only really blow up because shipping culture used to be even more insane than it is now and everyone couldn't wait to see you two together, never mind the very real boyfriend you had. You and Vik still get a lot of attention, but shipping wars definitely break out over who you're going to "end up with". There are so many, fanfics don't get me started. You know how 1D started the "I Got Kidnapped By..." trope, you three definitely started some freaky shit in fanfic spaces. In fact, you really originated Fuck or Die fics, specifically a smutty twist on the Hanahaki disease trope where you have to fuck to prove that you love one of them so they won't die and prove which side of the shipping war was right once and for all. Also, so many Youtube edits of you and Vik to Kesha's, Your Love is My Drug.

Despite not being the greatest at the games he played, Jayce's deep love for the lore eventually got him noticed by Riot, who invite him, you, and Viktor to one of their events and plan a partnership with you three, which is how Jayce and the Machine Herald get introduced into the game. You also get a character, but we all know how well adding female characters to male dominated gaming spaces goes. It would be a completely terrible mischaracterization of who you are and what your channel stands for, your tits would be huge and popping out of your outfit, your waist would be the size of your head, your weapon would be some sort of Cupid's arrow gimmick, and the character would eventually be retired and a piece of lost LoL history. You get a few references made to your character on Valentines Day, though!!

Viktor is more pissed about it than you are, and out of spite, he remodels your character and makes a little platform game for her as a present to you on Valentines Day. It's a really cute small release where you battle a bunch of magical creatures on your adventure to find the Ring of Happiness. While you usually take the wheel when it comes to more creative endeavors like character and world design and story board creation, it's still a very cute game. When you beat the game, you do also receive your own real-life Ring of Happiness.

Besides the little hiccups, Jayce and Viktor think it's very cool to be in a video game. Jayce is definitely the type to main his own character no matter what while Viktor likes a little more variety. The cosplays would also go insane!!! Does Jayce lose his fingerprints with the ungodly number of times he burned himself trying to hot glue his hammer together? Well, yes!!! Does Viktor nearly dye himself with the black body paint he uses? Yes!!! You cosplayed Viktor's version and are the only one who comes out unscathed. From that point on, you leave the cosplaying to the fans and stick to playing the games.

Something I really really hate about certain theorists is their pretentiousness. Every theory deserves to be heard out. If you have a basis to stand on, and an amount of evidence large enough to make your point believable, then you are completely valid! No matter how outlandish it is, this community is about having fun with hypotheticals, I think people forget that.

On that note also- no topic is “too hypothetical” again, if you have a basis to stand on you’re valid, especially if it works well with the rest of our interpretation with tying things together and whatnot. This entire idea is made off of hypotheticals; I’m serious, we’re usually just in some kind of echo chamber. Pull the average Minecraft player aside and tell them about the nether war, you’ll look like a crazy person, so why not go all out and treat it like an actual world to explore rather than leaving out entire subjects because you feel it’s too specific or far removed from the source? Isn’t that supposed to be the fun part?

Minecraft lore, although heavily implied, is very much up to interpretation for each individual person that gets into it. You have no right to tell people they’re stupid for believing something. You just need to be able to explain it so it doesn’t look like you’re just saying things for the sake of making up the most niche concept.

Because that is another issue, people get so caught up with having the most “unique interpretation” or a “fresh take” that they spew nonsense and get angry when anybody asks them for an explanation, because they never have one. It’s about one-upping everybody else for these people, and it’s so annoying. They’re always incredibly rude about it and pretend like they’re the know-it-all whilst oftentimes not being in the know of basic things stated in actual Minecraft.net articles or even the wikipedias trivia page at that point.

It’s just upsetting. We’re all in the same community, it is an extremely small space and there is absolutely no need to shit on people! Some of my theorist friends literally don’t wanna share their ideas on the internet because of individuals like this.

Be better. There is no one true canon of Minecraft lore, you can say “hey! What you says goes against (something)”, that isn’t arguing nor an attack, that’s just adding onto somebody else’s theory and looking for a conversation, but don’t say “it’s so stupid people genuinely believe this, it’s obviously not true. (Insert take that is never explained in a passive aggressive manner).”

Ofcourse I most commonly see this happen with big interpretations like that of The Game Theorists YouTube channel or RGNs ideas, but it goes to a point where like I said before people will just claim things because they want to one up everyone else in uniqueness. There is no passion nor interest, it isn’t a theory, it’s just a statement made with the objective to shit on people for being “too mainstream.”.

Ofcourse this comes naturally with any lore focused fandom, but c’mon man we’re like 100-200 active people max, there’s no reason to start stupid drama for no fucking reason other than to feed your own ego over something as silly as Minecraft lore. It’s ridiculous.

Ofcourse this usually happens on platforms like discord or reddit but I’ve seen my fare share of YouTube takes outside of the comments you’d expect to find here and there too. It’s just sad. Clicking on a post seeing that all the replies or comments are just bashing other people for not having unique enough takes is just sad. How about we let people have fun, my god.

If somebody tells me about something they’re passionate about because they’re looking for a community of some kind I’m not going to go “no you’re wrong and also what you’re really passionate about is dumb and bad and mine is better because it’s less popular”. But appearently many people on here don’t get that.

TLDR: just don’t be rude? I think that sums it up pretty well.

Minecraft Movie - I Have Opinions

Before I get crucified: I watched it with my friend who pirated it.

Also, if you enjoyed this movie, I'm happy for you. Genuinely.

This just me and my opinion. People are allowed to like what they like and are also allowed to not like things. I have some stupid movies I like too.

So first and foremost, I must admit my bias:

I have been playing Minecraft since it came out.

I'm an English major, so sorry if this sounds pretentious, but I am hard wired to find plot holes/issues. Blame my one professor.

I tried to be as unbiased as possible, but this movie made it hard.

Now, I don't usually critic movies or any type of media. I usually don't care at all in fact, but as I said in my first bias point: I have been playing Minecraft since it came out in 2011.

I love this game and the memories that come with it so much.

And ten year old me would be so disappointed.

It seems like they didn't do any actual research on how Minecraft works and just took the bare minimum information and ran with it.

Like they could've made it so good and there are so many stories they could've made. It's a sandbox game with a lot of lore they could've used to make a great story, but no.

Like we could've had movie about:

Characters defeating the End Dragon

Villagers vs Pillagers

The horror of the Deep Dark?! Hello!

And those are just a few, generalised ideas.

The terrain doesn't even look right. They could've generated a random world and based the movie off of it! Like take some screen shots and draw over it!

This movie was not made by people who love the game.

Like add to the world instead of taking away from it.

For example: The Hobbit movie trilogy and Lord of the Rings books + movie trilogy.

I have read most of the Tolkien books and I didn't mind that things were added or left out of the movies.

For obvious time constraints, not everything in the Lord of the Rings books could be added (RIP Tom Bombadil).

Also, when making a movie of a book, not everything is going to look the same because it's a fictional story and we do not have magic so you have to work with what you have 🤷‍♀️.

For The Hobbit, I didn't mind that they added to the story. I love the book, but in the end I did find the movies more enjoyable.

The Minecraft movie however, can't use any of these arguments due to:

It's an animated movie based off of a video game.

People weren't expecting them to use all of the source material because it's a sandbox game with a lot of lore, but that's not an excuse to use NONE of it.

This might just be my opinion, but the real people in an animated world was... meh. I just don't think it works.

Now, I like some films with a mix of real people and animated characters. Some examples are:

Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

Enchanted

Osmosis Jones

Mary Poppins (1964)

Bedknobs and Broomsticks

The Pagemaster (Scared the crap out of me.)

Rock-a-doodle

Looney Tunes: Back in Action

Space Jam (They played this once a week on TV, so I got annoyed with it and don't like it very much + don't like basketball. But a lot of people like this so I added it.)

I think what generally works is:

Real characters become animated and world becomes animated/go to animated world. (ex: Rock-a-doodle & Enchanted & The Pagemaster)

Real world and animated world are separate. (ex: Osmosis Jones & movies listed above in point 1)

Animated characters are in real world. (ex: Looney Tunes: Back in Action & Who Framed Roger Rabbit?)

Animated characters aren't drawn to be realistic. (ex: Mary Poppins (1964) & Bedknobs and Broomsticks)

So far, the only movie I've seen where the realistic animation works is in the Sonic movies. But that is due to them not being "animated characters". As in, they are real in that world.

So if you are going to make a movie with real characters going into an animated world/with animated characters (that are animated characters not real): DON'T MAKE THE ANIMATED ASPECTS LOOK TOO REALISTIC!! IT DEFEATS THE WHOLE PURPOSE!!

Like seriously, this sheep is awful.

Don't even get me started on the piglins. They look like clay. Like a old stop motion picture. Except if it was actual stop motion, it could've been better.

Now on to the biggest argument I have seen. The "iT wAs MaDe FoR kIdS, iT's SuPpOsEd To Be StUpId" argument.

Just because it's made for kids, does not mean it HAS to be stupid or poorly written.

Kids aren't stupid. There are far too many adults that treat them like they are or like accessories or think kids don't deserve nice things.

When I was a child, I actively got mad when people called me stupid or acted like I didn't know what I was talking about. How are kids supposed to learn things if we dumb everything down for them all the time? Obviously somethings need to be in order to understand and depending on the age, but not everything.

Life isn't easy, it's hard sometimes and it's important to learn how to deal with things we don't understand. It's important to learn how to figure out difficult things too.

Movies are a good way to teach kids difficult issues.

On the other hand, everything doesn't have to be "deep" or "edgy" either. The moral of the story can just be: "Friendship is good" or whatever.

A movie can be stupid/silly, but also well written.

It can have terrible animation/effects. It's expensive, they may have had to make do with what they had/could afford. It could also be an old movie and that's what they had at the time.

Something can also be funny because it has bad writing.

Like I enjoyed Minecraft: Story Mode when it came out. I thought it was fun. I didn't mind the bad writing. I thought the animation was alright. It also actually LOOKED LIKE Minecraft and built onto the lore.

This movie was made by Warner Bros. They could've done better.

I watched Jacks stream oh my gosh...

I thought I could handle a Dsmp stream in 2024 but nope. just- that felt SO much like just a stream that would happen in like 2021. the wandering around falling into random creeper holes, chat telling jack to get philza to help him, and to find michael, the mobs interrupting and how unplanned it all was. unscripted lore my beloved forever and ever.

the way that it's like in tommy and jacks conversation- they're talking about things in character that also relates to (presumably) their feelings in real life. just gosh...

when jack and tommy said their goodbyes and jack looked back at technos house to see the sun rising- like its so perfect in a way that the incidental roleplay always was. Like in the way I know I'm reading into it but it still works and it feels like real life when something happens and you find yourself in that moment and life looks almost like a movie- everything in it's proper place for the scene- but it's all just coincidence. the sun didn't rise because a writer wrote that it would. the sun just rises and falls and the conversation just happens to end at that exact moment.

idk just- I really felt it. It captured the feeling of peak dreamsmp that I've missed so much.

I don't even have a problem with nuke ending personally I think it's perfectly fine as an ending. How I've always seen it is: Everyones been hurt by everyone and violence begets violence so the great final act is nukes that will kill everyone that have all ready been launched so it can't be taken back. Then in the prison tommy sees the early parts of the server through Dreams pov and sees the good that was there at the start and how much that has been corrupted since and he wants that simplicity again (he and dream were even friends at one point) before everything went terrible for everyone. Dream turns his back on his plan that he's been building up to for so long cause what he really wants is the same thing as tommy. for things to be simple like at the start. but it's too late- its too far gone. the nukes have already been launched there's no going back. just the hope that maybe in another world things could've been different.

(also the added context of nuke ending being an elaborate character/relationship/map reset to setup a season 2 that never happened.)

So there's my nuke ending defense lol. I know it wasn't very popular with a vast amount of people and that's okay too.

I think ending something like dsmp was never gonna be easy or satisfy everybody, with how many individual povs there are and storylines. I always expected there to be things left unfinished. (unfinished symphony ;) Even if that's pretty unsatisfying for us viewers. (there's a particular stream I really wish had happened with foolish, dream, and eret)

idk there's a post I always remember when thinking about the ending that was like: "Maybe they couldn't write a happier ending at that time in their lives." (super paraphrasing) obviously talking about techno's passing. it's a bit assumptive but the CC's have talked publicly about how much that has affected them (of course it did). With something like that I imagine giving your minecraft server/roleplay character a happy ending is the last thing on your mind.

Todays stream felt like grief and nostalgia and complicated feelings for a time that has passed but still left it's marks on you:

“are you happier?” “I'm getting there”

like, that just says it all.

It’s been a while. Life has been a whirlwind of hurricanes and tornadoes mixed with occasional sunshine and rainbows recently, and I’ve been tackling everything I can. (Congrats on making it through another academic year, and for completing finals).

Not to beat a dead horse here, but I just wanted to input my thoughts on the q.smp bs happening.

Obviously, I hope all the workers who were wronged and never fairly compensated for their free labor, win their lawsuit and get more than what they’re owed for dealing with that narcissistic, egotistical, clout-chasing fuck. Now that I’ve said that, moving on to my thoughts.

I’ve seen discussion on how many servers are popping up post-dsmp era, and I have some thoughts on that.

Pre-dsmp, the only other SMP I heard of was Hermit-craft SMP. Then, we went through a deadly, lengthy, life-altering, and generational changing pandemic, which forced the world inside. The dsmp arose out of that, cause with everyone being at home, there wasn’t much to do. The gaming sphere/streaming sphere was dominant in a way I’d never seen it before, and it was incredible to witness. Minecraft especially experienced a resurgence, and Mr. Greenman himself was a huge part of that-through manhunts and the dsmp.

Unlike the nature of the q.smp, and some of these other short-lived smps, the dsmp started authentically. It was originally a server meant for Dteam to play on together and just have fun with each other. Then Dream added some of his friends and those friends knew people who they thought would enjoy the server and it just kept growing. Eventually, when all these people were added, the lore started, and that took the server to new heights and popularity (everyone loves a good story, regardless of the method of storytelling).

Dream himself never streamed his perspective, so as not to take away viewers from the notably smaller streamers on the SMP (which is opposite of a certain duckwhodoesntquack who only streams his perspective). He was also an active member in creating the lore/storylines of not only his character, but others as well (a certain unapologetic abusive cc was a big part, as well but we don’t talk about “Bruno”). Again, this is opposite of the q.smp, as the owner had people write the lore for him, and then was also never satisfied with what was written.

I think one of the biggest differences was the dsmp wasnt meant to be a roleplay server. It happened cause the people occupying the server wanted to do it, and made that decision on their own. It wasn’t marketed as a “passion project” so there wasn’t much build-up and hype for its release/existence (until after the lore started, and then it became more hyped). There was no competing server of its kind, cause the only other one that most people knew about had long since been established-the notoriety, popularity, and clout was already there, and didn’t need to be earned.

And the biggest difference of them all, no one got payed. There were not “workers” meant to move the server along; everything happened via the streamers themselves. So although there were some communication issues, there were no legal issues cause no one was being payed, unless you streamed playing it on a streaming site and made the money through donos.

It breaks my heart watching the q.smp play out like this, cause if it was done in good faith and genuineness, it could’ve been so good-bridging language barrier gaps and creating endless opportunities to learn a language you don’t know, and/or a culture you also don’t know-but it fell victim to a greedy owner and all good qualities were made null. I hate that this is how it transpired, especially for those that were working for free, and everyone who got doxxed/swatted over this.

TLDR; dsmp’s authenticity, genuineness, lack of greed from the owner played into what made it so successful. They’re also the reason it can’t be replicated, because it wasn’t manufactured- it just happened. And that’s why all these other servers have failed before they started, only lasted a bit of time, or ended up buckling under the consequences of the decisions of the owner. Dsmp is THAT girl and she will always be.

Yeah I 100% agree i think something that a lot of newer servers lack is genuine authenticity that isn't built off of an expectation or hope of fame. the dsmp was never even supposed to be something other than a chill server between the dteam so obviously their intentions when just starting out were nothing but pure. However, there is no denying that anyone who made a server after that had the fame of the dsmp in the back of their mind- it's just impossible with how famous the server got.

And with how sterile the qsmp felt with how much the rp was pushed onto the streamers and the fact that there was essentially a business being run through the server, it killed the authentic feeling of everything (if it was even there to begin with)

I realized I messed up the timeline in Purple Gold

This is what I get for not checking the dates first

Canonically, Purple had already been in Minecraft in 2018, and Gold died in 2020 according to the wiki. I'm not changing it though so now Gold gets to die(?) way earlier :)

(Not a lot of lore here, this is mostly just me straightening out the timeline and getting my thoughts in order since its easier for me to do that while writing and I might as well post it yk)

@styck-figure @whirld-of-color in case you guys are interested on the nitpicky stuff.

I thought about the accident being before the OG AvM but I think that would have been way too early, and it was mostly because then I could give Herobrine some fun implications, but in the end I think it fits better to place him in the time between OG and ep1, so I also get to play with how the updates affect Purple's world. I think that the experience of being inside of a game while it updates is a very underrated sort of horror when it comes to sentient videogame characters, and I'm looking foward to making Purple experience it :) though the fact they know its a game, and probably also how updates work, takes off some of the horror.

Purple's first appearance is in ep9 and I can't find any frames where the date is shown(the only full screens we get are in Purple's mac and it only says it's a wednesday), but in ep8 the date is 5/18/2018 and... none of the next episodes in season1 have a date. Or the first ep in s2. Ok, time to ask the wiki and they only have the airing date but whatever. 6/18/2018.

Anyways, that means the only updates that would have happened before he meets the others are Combat, Frostburn, Exploration and Color. That's kind of disappointing since I was looking foward to having Drowned play a major role in Purple's second death but I can make it work without it. Just needs some tweaking.

The Combat Update is overall just way too subtle to effectively work as horror, the main changes are just mechanics and added end stuff. Basically just not a lot of stuff Purple would notice or pay attention to, especially since the End isn't going to be somewhere they would visit right off the bat. At most they would notice some new enchantments.

The Frostburn Update is already a bit more interesting, it adds 3 mobs (polar bears, Strays and Husks), adds magma blocks, fossils, increases Magma Cube spawn rates and lets Enderman spawn in the Nether. Overall enough changes to be a bit jarring, but I'm honestly just not vibing with it.

Exploration adds the Woodland Mansion and all the fun stuff that comes with it, but its so rare that its sudden appearence isn't going to be all that shocking because Purple probably never went wherever it is before it showed up.

World of color adds some new blocks but none of them naturally generated. The most horror potential it has are the parrots. ...Actually, they have a lot of horror potential with their sound copying. I might use that.

I'll probably have to wait a while for any update-related horror.

So, the accident happens midway through the Combat Update, and maybe that's why it happens in the first place. Gold gets unlucky enough to be playing right when the update gets released, and since stickfigures interact with our programs differently, it makes sense their tech would too. Instead of waiting for the player to close the game before updating, it decides to update with Gold still inside. :)

Purple shows up a while after the Frostburn Update is done since it happens so soon after Combat and I want Gold to have some time to get used to his new existence and learn about players.

All the while, King is having a lot more roadblocks than he's supposed to have. I'll have to throw some stuff at him to justify how long it takes for him to reach his canon position, considering in canon it takes like 18 months AT MOST. It probably is somewhere closer to one year.

Here Gold dies in early 2016, so that means King needs to be five times slower than in canon. ...He's going to need a lot of roadblocks.

Yeah you’re right a MCD rewrite is people rewriting MCD and adding their own ships or improvements or different plot points. It started because the original MCD is kinda written poorly. Some plot points go nowhere, some parts are problematic, some parts drag on, characters appear and disappear, characters stopped developing and most importantly MCD has no ending and was abruptly discontinued by Jess so she could focus on Mystreet and other projects. People just wanna improve and finish the thing that means so mich to them basically. You can find them on AO3 and a few on Wattpad (I recommend AO3 tho its easier to find rewrites ur interested in cuz the tag system)

Many reasons heres the main few: when Aaron was introduced he was supposed to be a side character but then he became a love interest kinda outta nowhere (my theory as to why is because Jess’s husband Jason voices him) and when he did become a love interest other characters like Laurence and Garroth kinda stopped developing and became worse to justify why Aaron was a good choice for Aphmau. For me they never had any chemistry in MCD, when its revealed Aphmau is pregnant with Aaron’s kid my brain logged out because wtffff how did they find the time and also why Aaron ://. He wasn’t kinda boring, his angsty past could’ve been used more but wasn’t he was just a brooding masked figure who followed Aphmau around. Then Pheonix Drop High happened and made things really weird. So when Aaron was 18 going on 19 he started dating Aphmau who was 14. Very creepy much yuck, they didn’t communicate well and then his whole character became that he’s in love with Aphmau but “he’s just not good enough for her :((“ and “i shouldn’t be with her shes perfect” and personally i find romance dramas infuriating, especially that kind of drama. AND YES AS A 18YR OLD U SHOULDNT BE DATING A 14YR OLD WELL DONE AARON. Mystreet they were the annoying lovey dovey couple with relationship drama they just rubbed me the wrong way in that series, I stopped watching after Emerald Secret and only recently forced myself to finish Mystreet and yeah no idc about them or their relationship. In MCD season 3 when Shad was introduced as a full character his whole thing is he’s Aaron again but evil and Aphmau’s sad about it and uuuuugg i dont caaareee. And I personally thought Aphmau wasn’t gunna end with anyone in MCD because she went on multiple rants about how that isn’t what she’s looking for and she has to think about her people first and she prefers her own company and then BOOM gets pregnant of masky mcsad face. Ugh. Basically Aaron ruined everything.

Garrence has been a ship since the characters were introduced and quite simply its because they have more chemistry together than with Aphmau. I’ve always been a lil uncomfortable with how Jess wrote Laurence and Aphmau’s interactions and Garroth and Aphmau’s interactions but Garroth and Laurence interactions were just more natural they had more banter they were sweet together. Then Jess did a bunch of queerbaiting with it and the ship got bigger, so many fanarts so many fanfics. Then it just never happened because Jess is a coward. Like it would’ve been so nice to see the hints and chemistry go somewhere but it didn’t. Everyone still holds hope tho. With rewrites Garrence is Canon :))

as someone who only ever beat four swords adventures. can i hear the lore on why the newer games are annoying. if you dont want to get into it in public though i totally get it lol

OKAY SO LIKE. let me put this under a cut.

so me thinking the newer games are annoying is a personal thing. i'll put that out there to begin with. i completely understand why they're games that people love a lot—for people who like open-world games with lots of exploration and building shit and whatnot, and don't really care for games that have Plot and Stories and Meaning behind them, they're probably damn near perfect games.

but like. MY main problem with the games, specifically (which could be easily ignored if not for my MAIN BIG PROBLEM WITH THE FANDOM which i'll. get into after this), is that while i will concede that they may be Good Games to those who play them (i watched a playthrough of breath of the wild Once and am currently trying to get through it myself and not only am i bored to tears but i hate the art style and when i say the soundtrack fucking sucks. the soundtrack Fucking Sucks. like it is legitimately the WORST fucking game soundtrack i've ever heard in my LIFE which makes doing anything in the game absolutely unbearable to me) they are, absolutely, terrible ZELDA games.

the legend of zelda franchise for almost forty years now has built up a series dedicated not ONLY to exploration within the game, but also music and wonderful stories that each game tells. like pokémon, in its own way—but even in pokémon, when the story is bland (xy, swsh) or just plain bad (usum) you can always count on it to have a great soundtrack. breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom took both "plot" and "music" and just threw them out the window. the overworld music in breath of the wild is nothing except a few piano notes every five minutes. the battle music when you encounter an enemy is the most boring, lackluster shit i've ever heard in my life (AND THE MUSIC FOR THE BOSS BATTLES IS SOMEHOW EVEN WORSE). basically imagine pokémon legends arceus except instead of all the wonderful overworld music we got for all the different areas, you just have dead silence. that's pretty much what running around in breath of the wild is like.

and the story? get ready for the blandest characters you've ever met in your life. you will not get attached to a single one of those cardboard cutouts. anything that adds meaning to the story is locked behind paid DLC which automatically makes it not even worth my time or money. basically, breath of the wild was like "what if we took the original legend of zelda from 1986 and its sequel from 1987 and added modern mechanics to it. and throw in a new plot that isn't even worth getting attached to." i would literally prefer playing those old 2D games over that game. their plots were entirely constrained to the game manuals because they couldn't fit them into the actual games themselves because they were 80s games and they were STILL more interesting than botw/totk.

but whatever! it's not a big deal. i can ignore the games. it's not up to me to dictate what people should and should not play as part of a franchise. again, people love the games for a reason, and that reason is usually because breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom are like "what if legend of zelda but throw in some minecraft elements about it". like....okay. WHATEVER!

my problem is with the fandom. the Giant Portion Of The Fandom That Has Only Played BOTW and TOTK and NOTHING ELSE. you literally cannot escape it. you know the types of people that spam the tags of every game in their game series just to make EVERYONE look at their post about One Particular Game? yeah it's like a literal army of those people. i MAINLY stick to posting about the older games from the 80s/90s/early 2000s (i.e. four swords/four swords adventures, the original legend of zelda + its sequel, a link to the past, the minish cap, ocarina of time/majora's mask/etc etc etc you get me) and everywhere you look there's somebody doing everything in their power to bring botw/totk into it/spamming the tags with botw/totk posts/just spreading blatant misinfo regarding the older games???? because they've never played them???? and like whatever i can ignore that too but i mean!!!! at some point it just gets so ridiculously irritating!!!!!! basically it's like. do you know how the pokémon company keeps bringing kanto into literally every game somehow + will not stop with the charizard hype to the point where everyone is sick and tired of charizard. that's pretty much what's happening except it's botw/totk. and i am so tired of hearing about the metaphorical charizard HAHAHA

Rushing /right/ into things since I am ever-so slightly approaching the midnight of 5/24/2024 (im so sorry) here's the new/fixed tools and fixed copper color :)

Now that I've caught your eye, time to quickly go over the huge technical stuff that doesn't have any fancy images to show *yet*: 1. It now is supported on Linux! (Windows and Apple too obviously) 2. Controller support! Play using whatever controller you'd like, or a standard mouse and keyboard. 3. There's now a saving state when quitting the game to ensure no file corruption when quitting to main screen

4. WE'VE STARTED THE SURVIVAL MODE AND WEIGHT-BASED INVENTORY SYSTEM LETS GOOOOOOO

Here's the WIP design of the HUD, followed by the concept draft for the inventory system:

Basically, as items are added to your backpack/player/whatever, they add to the total weight vs possible storage weight. similar to games like Fallout or Skyrim, but with the visual grid layout of inventories like Stardew Valley or Minecraft or Terraria. obviously as that list grows, itll expand the size of the GUI but if its *too* large itll have a scroll bar. no more worrying about having 347353 different flower types or random knick knacks. so long as you have the STR stat for it you're good to go!

Magazines/books are in the work now too! You can find and read tidbits of these across the world, ranging from top secret training manuals which give you permanent stat bonuses to learning how to make coffee or bits of lore and new customization options, they've got it all!

(also ignore the sentinels standing in as the temporary player models for now but i felt like including this image from a past update preview to visually explain what i meant by stats and STR/strength/carrying weight/leveling those things up and whatnot)

(this ended up being a very long post where I ramble about some lore in my solo world lol)

I added this right after bamboo wood was first added and I went around finding places I could add it to builds. Still lowkey one of my favorite little details in a build like Idk it just looks really nice to me lol

(don't mind the mumbo jumbo video playing in the top corner lol) I also don't think I ever posted the bamboo farm/ancient plant room I added to the underground plant lab a while back. So here's that!

Oh!! And I also don't remember if I ever posted the condemned sculk lab I made either! Actually I might have posted about it, but I don't think I really went into detail and it's been a while anyway lol, so here's that too.

This is really rambly, so- *inhales*

It's connected to a little hallway in the secret nether lab.

The lore is like this person already had a secret lab to study nether plants and whatnot without the villagers knowing. (Like, the nether is public knowledge and avoided due to how dangerous it is, so they wanted to keep the extensive study a secret as to not freak out the villagers)

((the only reason it's "public knowledge" is a meta thing because I already have a very obvious nether portal room and couldn't fit that into the secret lab lore unless it was like Oh yeahh that place? so risky and SO dangerous, and we never go there......unless? 👀 lmao))

While exploring far away they discover sculk deep underground. It's vaguely plant-like, or at least it unsettlingly seems like it's alive, and their Whole Thing is studying plants so they decided to take samples to study.

The sculk must be as ancient as the city, obviously causing the city's decay. And while it was clearly still spreading through the ruins it was doing so VERY slowly. At least, that was the assumption based on how little of the city had been covered in the seemingly hundreds or thousands of years since it must have abandoned.

Foreshadowing is a literay device used to-

Back at home, they decide to add a small room to the existing secret lab. They connect it to a small hallway off the main hallway, rather than building directly off the main hallway, because they were afraid the heat from the nether plant grow rooms might be too much and inhibit the growth of the sculk. Putting a bit of distance between the heat source and the sculk lab might promote better growth and therefore better research!

Anyway, turns out they were very, very wrong. The sculk is MUCH newer than the cities, only overtaking them long after they fell to ruin and, therefore, grows much faster than expected. Maybe even accelerated by the fresher air this high up (this lab is around Y-level 41), and the high heat from the nearby grow rooms.

The lab is quickly overtaken and subsequently sealed off (there are three doors with glass walls between the hall and the room itself). While the assumption is that no one else will ever find any of this secret lab, the sculk seems so dangerous that they had to put a warning on the hall. Should someone ever discover the lab, it wouldn't be right to let them unknowingly walk into the sculk.

(that part was inspired by me watching a video that mentioned scientists having to think about how to label stuff like nuclear waste in such a way to convey the danger of opening it to people potentially FAR in the future when our languages may be long dead or certain icons might have entirely different/unknown meanings and I can't even remember the video now but oh my god that's just so fascinating and terrifying to me, *inhales* ANYWAY back to minecraft)

Tried to use armor trims to make a weird hazmat-esque suit. I feel like it looks a little silly, but I like the concept so I kept it. Also since the compass over the door is always spinning I like to imagine it's some sort of Geiger counter for sculk

Combo of empty chiseled bookshelves and placing normal ones around until I found the spots with neutral/empty texture variations in the texture pack I use to make it feel quickly abandoned.

Then I tried to make the room feel unfinished too. Like maybe they'd just barely gotten it built and created a seemingly safe containment area for the sculk first thing so they could observe it. Sculk starts to spread outside of the containment, they try and fail to stop it from doing so, and they take their notes and seal off the room before it's finished.

I also wanted it to seem like the sculk was degrading the floor, causing it to sink. Maybe sculk just thrives further down so it's naturally growing that direction, maybe it's vaguely sentient and purposefully trying to bury itself deeper, maybe the floor material is just weaker and/or closer to where it broke out of the containment so it's just the most affected. You decide!

They've done there best to not let any of the dangerous research slip to the villagers they live with, as to not worry them when the situation is definitely totally contained. However, one day a path above ground collapses and reveals a small pond with a....strange ecosystem. They aren't sure the villagers will believe it's just algae if they ever see it....

it was entirely unintentional but this pond is actually almost directly above the blue nether plant room, so that's neat! Also this pond was naturally here, and I had decorated it like this (minus the sculk) and added a broken path long before building the nether lab or before sculk was in the game. Then much later I had the idea for a condemned sculk lab and thought oh hey! New pond lore!

The original weird pond lore was that every time I harvested potatoes I'd throw the poisonous ones in there, so eventually the water just Did Things. And I still like that idea because it's silly so maybe it's just a mix of both now lol

Anyway that's enough rambling about my solo minecraft lore because I've been rotating it in my head for months and just needed someone else to know. If you read this long I hope you enjoyed it and also thanks lol

Something deep in my gut dislikes the birds in a cage lore drop, aka the bird girls being former and maybe continuing to be lab rats of the federation.

Something about the lore seems... wrong. It feels like we seen a cut scene out of order or something. I just don't like this lore.

Also I seriously hope they are getting rid of the egg lore bit, not because I hate it. It's just the players and the mods are actively fucking over their sleep schedules and health and potentially the intended story, the egg part wasn't supposed to last as long as it did. My theory to as why:

The eggs WERE supposed to die in some specific event much earlier on but because they didn't discover that particular plot hook or whatever would trigger the event it got pushed off. Because of this, the eggs stuck around.

Because thanks to a leak we know there are eight sectors to this world. I'm guessing one is properly the heart of the federation but maybe one is dedicated to the other regular Minecraft realms as they seemingly aren't allowed to those dimensions proper aka the End and Nether without special access. But thing is we've spent nearly a SINGULAR YEAR on LAYER ONE ALONE. Technically it's over half a year now, but soon it'll march again. And the first year anniversary WILL be upon us and...

We wouldnt have gotten far in the story... at all. It's been half a year and we are stuck on the eggs.

Maybe my dislike of the experiment lab rat bird sisters is because of how it was added because they are realizing shit we need to move things along, there's no way we are spending 8-10 years in this server.

i personally think they went forwards w/ their scheduled lore plans, just with the eggs attached? Yeah, the elections were put off a bit but that was because of creators schedules not lining up well. and Quackity did say he wanted this to be a long-form SMP, but we can only guess how long it's supposed to go lol.
