“i got all this gym equipment just to bother you. i’d turn the music up way too loud, and i thought that’d make you notice me. i sat next to you at lunch, even in lectures, doing everything to annoy you because i didn’t know how else to approach you, i really thought—”

“jungkook.”

you blink, processing everything in a blur, your heart still hammering in your chest

but he doesn’t quite listen to you. “i knew you liked my sketches we had during cardio lectures, so i always made sure to draw—”

“juNGKOOK!”

you cut him off, smacking his idiotic shoulders “you’re an idiot.”

jungkook stops, eyes widening a little, but there’s this look of relief on his face

like a huge weight has just been lifted off him

almost like when u get to pee after holding it in for hours

jungkook smiles sheepishly, his pearly whites flashing. “i guess i thought this would be easier.”

the room feels heavy with tension as you both stand there, unsure of what to say next, but his gaze is so intense, it makes your heart skip

“say something,” he says, his voice quieter now, almost pleading. “please.”

you can feel the heat rising in your cheeks, still flustered, but there’s something about his earnestness that makes everything else fade into the background

and the way his caramel brown eyes nearly sparkle underneath your dimly lit apartment lights

you shake your head with a smile.

“you’re an idiot.”

but you're smiling like a total fool because what else are you supposed to do when the guy you’ve been in love with just confessed to you?

jungkook’s face softens, and then he smiles too

a smile which looks so adorable you feel your heart will burst

“so, uh…” he scratches the back of his neck, looking bashful. “does that mean you like me too?”

you roll your eyes, your heart racing all over again, and grab the front of his shirt to pull him inside

Title: Full Moon

Summary: It's the reader's favorite time of year and the new guy at school asks to hang out with her.

“To the student or students who thought it would be funny to steal the distributor cap from my car, please return it now or you will be discovered and expelled,” the principal announces over the intercom system. You smile and shake your head as you pull your locker door open. It was your favorite time of year.

There was a crispness to the air outside and a beautiful golden and auburn tint to the leaves. Pumpkins, skeletons, and ghosts lined the houses in your neighborhood. Mischief was running rampant among your classmates and even a few of the teachers had gotten in on the fun. Today was Halloween.

The final bell had rung for the day and everyone was rushing to leave. You exchange your books, depositing most of them back into your locker. Only one teacher had been cruel enough to actually assign homework over the holiday weekend. You close your locker door and nearly jump out of your skin. The new guy was leaning against the locker next to yours, an almost irresistible smirk spread across his face.

“Can I help you?” You ask, crossing your arms over your chest. He and his brother had moved to your school about a week ago. You could tell automatically he was a “ladies man” but you hadn’t expected to be his first target.

“I’m Dean. You’re Y/N, right?” He asks. You nod your head once, catching a few jealous glares from the girls you had expected him to make his way through. You couldn’t deny he was attractive but you had no desire to become his first conquest at your school. “What are you doing tonight?”

“Straight to the chase, huh?” You ask. He shrugs his shoulders, that cocky smirk still plastered on his face. “I’m taking my little brother trick-or-treating.”

“What a coincidence, I’m taking my little brother out too. Maybe we could take them together,” he says. You let out a laugh and raise an eyebrow at him.

“Isn’t your brother a freshman?” You ask. He nods his head. “Isn’t he a little old to trick-or-treat?”

“Nah, Sammy loves it,” he says. You shake your head, smiling in disbelief. “We’re new to the area and I’m sure you know all the good spots. So, what do you say?” He asks. What do you say? He was pretty cute. And determined. With both your younger brothers with you, nothing could really happen so you couldn’t see the harm in it. You rip a piece of paper from your notebook and quickly jot down your address.

“For your brother’s sake,” you tell him, handing it over to him. “Be there at 5:00.” He smirks as he takes it then winks at you and walks away. You watch him go then shake your head as you turn the other way.

You get home that afternoon and immediately set about getting yourself ready. Your costume was simple, a long red skirt, a white sweater with a big R embroidered on it, a ponytail with a red bow, and some simple white tennis shoes. Your little brother had decided to be Dracula this year so you help him get ready. At 5:00 on the dot, your doorbell rings.

“Y/N!! Your friend from school is here,” your mother calls out to you. You smile at your little brother then bring him downstairs with you. Dean and his brother Sam are standing in the front foyer of your house, looking around in astonishment.

“Didn’t know you were rich,” Dean says. You roll your eyes then look at his brother. He’s wearing a white sheet with two holes cut out for eyes.

“What is that?” You ask, looking at Dean quickly. Dean looks at Sam then back at you and shrugs.

“A ghost?” He asks. You roll your eyes and reach to pull the sheet off of Sam.

“If you were going to force him to come, you could have at least bought him a better costume,” you tell him. Dean frowns and his eyes fall to the ground. The second the words are out of your mouth, you regret them. You’d heard that they were living in the old motel across town which obviously meant they didn’t have a lot of money. “I’m sorry.” Dean shakes his head and looks around your house again. “We’ve actually got some of my older brother’s old costumes down in the basement if you want to find something,” you tell Sam. He glances at Dean then shrugs his shoulders. “Come on.” You take Sam’s hand and pull him through the hall then down into the basement. You find the box and open it, allowing Sam to dig through. “I’m sorry he’s making you do this. We don’t have to if you don’t want to.” Sam shrugs, looking at an old Superman costume.

“I don’t mind. Never really got to do much trick-or-treating before,” he says. You frown, your heart breaking at his words. He glances over at you. “He’s been talking about you a lot.”

“What?” You ask, looking up at him. He shrugs, looking back into the box.

“Dean’s been talking about you. Since the day we started at school. He really likes you,” he says, smiling as he finds another costume. “Can I wear this one?” He asks, holding up a Ghostbusters uniform. You smile at him and nod before showing him the bathroom upstairs. Going back into the foyer, you find Dean standing with his arms crossed.

“Sam said he hasn’t done much trick-or-treating before?” You ask. Anger flashes through Dean’s eyes quickly.

“We don’t need your pity, Y/N,” he says. Your eyes widen and you shake your head.

“No, Dean!! That’s not what this is,” you start. “Okay, maybe a little for Sam but I would actually like to hang out with you tonight while we give Sam a pretty good Halloween. If you still want to.” You bite your lip. Something new crosses Dean’s face, something you said triggering different emotions. He nods and smiles a little. Sam comes down the hall and Dean’s eyes widen before he starts to laugh.

“A Ghostbuster, huh?” He asks. Sam smiles widely and nods. You look between them, missing the joke.

“Alright. Count Dracula, let’s roll,” you call out. Your brother comes running in from the kitchen, a second pillowcase in his hands. He hands it to Sam who looks down at it in amazement.

“We’re gonna get this much candy?” He asks. You laugh and nod.

“Definitely,” you tell him. His eyes light up before the four of you leave the house. Several other families are already out on your street, making their way house to house. Your brother immediately takes the lead, Sam following him closely. You and Dean hang back, awkwardly silent as you stop at the first house.

“So,” Dean says, looking around. He shoves his hands in his pockets then looks over your costume. “What are you?”

“Sandy from Grease,” you tell him, running your hands over the red skirt. You look back to find him smirking again.

“That mean you’re gonna turn into Bad Sandy halfway through the night?” He asks. You throw your head back laughing.

“In your dreams, Winchester,” you tell him before following your brothers to the next house.

“You can count on that,” Dean says. Your cheeks heat up as you stop, watching your brother and Sam run up the stairs of a house.

“So what brings you here?” You ask, looking at him. He shrugs, watching Sam.

“My dad’s job. We move around a lot. Probably won’t be here long,” he tells you. You can’t help the rush of sadness that fills you. Obviously, you didn’t know him well at this point – you barely knew him at all honestly – but you weren’t fond of the idea of him leaving so soon.

“That your way of telling me you aren’t looking for a girlfriend?” You ask, glancing at him. He laughs and shakes his head.

“Just a fact,” he says. You smile at his laughter, watching it shake his whole body.

“Well maybe this time you’ll be able to stay for a while,” you say. He smiles and reaches over, catching your hand in his own. You should probably protest, not wanting to give him the wrong idea, but you don’t mind.

“Maybe,” Dean says, stopping at the fence of another house.

The sun sets slowly, seeming to reflect the beautiful fall colors across the sky. Your little brother and Sam fill their pillowcases before you all make your way to the city park. The community festival is in full swing when you arrive. Your brother and Sam split off, finding people from school to hang out with. Dean points out a group of teenagers by the apple bobbing station. You shake your head and pull him to the far side of the park where it’s more secluded. His arm comes around your waist, holding you close to his side.

“Pretty crazy about the principal’s car, huh?” He asks. You laugh lightly and nod. “Think they’ll catch the guy that did it?” You shake your head and he looks down at you. “Why not?”

“Cause everyone assumes it’s a guy,” you say, smirking up at him. His eyes widen quickly.

“You??” He asks. You smile and shrug, looking out to find your brother. He’s running around chasing a friend dressed as Frankenstein. Dean smiles and shakes his head. “I think I love you,” he says. You laugh and look back at him. “Why’d you do it?”

“He didn’t let us dress up for Halloween today,” you say, shrugging again.

“You’re really into all this, aren’t you?” He asks. You nod, feeling his hand start to rub your side slowly.

“You get to be someone else,” you tell him. He snorts and you look up at him.

“Why would you want to be anyone else? You’ve got everything you could ever want,” He says in disbelief. You smile a little and lay your head against his shoulder.

“Money doesn’t mean everything is always sunshine and rainbows, Dean,” you say. He nods his head slowly.

“I guess not,” he says. You stay this way, his arm wrapped around you tight, for a few minutes. He presses a kiss to the top of you head. “We’ve got some admirers.” You look up and find the group from school watching the two of you closely. You roll your eyes and step out of his arm, taking his hand.

“Let’s give them something to talk about then,” you say, pulling on his hand. He smiles as you lead him away from the crowds of people to a secluded clearing behind some trees. You stop and look up at the sky. “A full moon on Halloween.”

“That’s gotta be a bad omen or something,” Dean says, shaking his head. You turn to face him and wrap your arms around his neck.

“Nah, it’s good luck,” you tell him. He raises an eyebrow, his arms snaking around your waist.

“Is it?” He asks. You smile and stand up, pressing your lips against his. It’s a timid kiss, your lips just barely grazing against his. “Guess it is,” he mumbles, nodding his head. You let out a giggle and look away.

“It’s getting late. I should get my brother home,” you tell him.

“Can I take you out tomorrow night?” He asks, his nose nuzzling your cheek. You look back at him and nod.

“Yes you can,” you tell him. He smiles and moves to kiss you again but you lean away from him, smirking. “Tomorrow night.” He laughs lightly and nods.

“Okay,” he says. You take his hand again and pull him back to the main area. The two of you find your brothers. A quick kiss to his cheek and Dean promises to pick you up at 6:00 the following night.

The next night you put on your favorite dress. You fix your hair and make-up perfectly. 6:00 comes and Dean doesn’t. You wait for nearly an hour before deciding to go over to the motel yourself. Leaving your car running, you step into the main office connected to the string of run down rooms.

“Can I help you?” The man at the counter asks, not looking up. You bite your lip slightly.

“I’m looking for a family. The Winchesters. A man and his two sons,” you tell him. He nods slightly, flipping the page of his newspaper.

“Checked out this morning. Seemed to be in a rush,” he says. You stare at him for a moment then nod. Dean said they wouldn’t be around long. You hadn’t expected them to vanish overnight though. The man glances up at you then sets his paper aside. “Are you Y/N by chance?”

“I – I am,” you tell him, cautiously. He pulls open a drawer and hands you a small yellow envelope.

“One of the boys left this in case you showed up,” he says. You frown and take it before leaving the office. You pull a note out and quickly read it.

Y/N,

I’m so sorry. Dad’s job. We had to leave. Hopefully we’ll see each other again. Until then, wear this for luck.

Dean

You empty the rest of the contents of the envelope into your hand. A delicate silver chain falls out. You look over the necklace and find a tiny full moon charm attached to it. Your finger runs over the charm before you quickly fasten it around your neck. A stray tear slides down your cheek and you wipe at it quickly. You look up at the sky and smile, the full moon shining down on you.

babysitter . . . # four

☆ ortho has a temporarily new babysitter and idia has to walk him there every morning before school. idia isn't a fan of clichés but... who knew the babysitter was so cute?

☆ gender neutral reader, reader is kind of a shut-in yet is good with kids, strangers to crushes with idia shroud featuring ortho! magicless au!

gently, idia closed the door to the small room at the very end of the upstairs hallway. ortho stood in front of him, a deadpan look displayed on his face. "okay, the security system is up-to-date. remember what i said: keep the door locked, absolutely do not answer it, don't touch anything on my computer that isn't a children's game because you might end up scarring yourself, and i'll be home as soon as possible."

idia laid down some common ground rules, for ortho was to be left home alone for a few hours. unfortunately, ortho had to be left home alone thanks to the school exam that both idia and (name) had to take. idia remembered the conversation from last night and how nervous he felt when he realized ortho would be home alone for a while.

(name) [6:40 pm]

god damn it (ﾒ` ﾛ ´) okay so erm. i have to show up to school IN PERSON tomorrow. . .

im going to assume ortho told you about that because i have no recollection of telling you about the security set up myself. i think i should be more worried about you breaking in rather than anyone else (⊙_⊙)

there was no time to be worried, though; idia had a solid 5 minutes before he absolutely HAD to leave. ortho smiled, "it's okay, idia! i'll be extra careful! i won't go outside, i won't eat your candy and i'll even clean my room!" idia patted the younger boy's head. "good, i've really got to go now... don't forget to call me if you need anything. if you can't reach the phone on the counter, you can use my tablet to contact (name)."

ortho nodded and waved a goodbye to his brother, who finally made his way downstairs and out the door with a grimace on his face. it's too early to have a stomachache; stress from ortho and the exam clashing together as if they were fighting for dominance in his stomach, which made him feel worse. he could probably throw up right about now.

idia arrived just in time for the bell to ring and signal the start of classes. idia looked around the room at all the other students, sitting or hanging around their seats while they waited for the instructor. idia's eyes glanced towards his own seat - unofficially but he had been sitting there for so long that it was automatically his - to find someone already sitting there. idia's face lit up with recognition as he began to make his way up the raised seats to the very top; in the corner was idia's occupied seat. "hey... um, i sit here." idia chortled at his own joke.

idia's poor attempt at "do-i-know-you" humor startled the babysitter. (name) looked up with wide eyes, before sighing out in relief. "is it really? sorry about that; your seat was the only open one that's not surrounded by people i don't know..." idia shrugged at their statement. "it's okay, i get that. i sit all the way up here, in the corner, because i'm away from most people."

they nodded in response as they watched idia sit down in the empty seat beside them. as soon as he touched the chair, the teacher walked into the room. "class, sit down and listen up; today is the day of the last practice exam. i will divide you all into groups and send you where you belong."

the class erupted into whispers, hoping to he grouped with their friends. as the teacher began listing off names and groups, idia tuned out. it was quite loud for him and being in public during such a nerve-wracking day really set him off.

"...., .....,. To start group b, shroud and (last name). ....., .....," idia was not able to catch his last name; luckily the cutie in his seat did. whipping their head over to the anxious man, they smiled brightly. "hey, did you get that? we are in the same group! they quietly exclaimed to idia, who was just snapped out of his own head.

"....yay..." he quietly hummed, looking down at his hands, which fiddled with his hoodie. (name) deadpanned, "oh? are you not excited about that? huh, and i thought we had something special..." they dramatically sighed which made idia shake his head. "nonono - you just... we can even do anything together because we are taking practice exams. it's almost like it'll make no difference if you're there or not..." he replied.

before the babysitter could response, someone sitting in the row in front of the two whipped around, pressing a firm finger to her lips as she shushed both the teenagers behind her. she shook her head before turning back around. (name) and idia looked at each other immediately after she turned back around and started to giggle quietly among themselves.

the bell rung, signaling the end of the torturous practice exam. idia sighed and let the disgustingly stressful feelings out of his lungs. standing up quickly, he began packing up. he looked to where (name) were assigned to sit, two rows ahead of him, and watched as they did the same. he was about to meet them at their desk to walk home together . . . until they began to leave and the crowd of students followed behind them. thay put a physical barrier between idia and (name)... there was no way he could catch up now.

idia waited until the horde of students all left to turn in his exam and to leave the room. he walked down the hallway, a sudden sadness in his step. 'you didn't wait for me' he sulked in his head, gripping harder onto his backpack strap. as he pushed through the school doors to reach the outside, he felt a looming presence behind him; one that was not sadness.

he slowly looked behind himself and there they were - holding two energy drinks. "idia~ sorry for not waiting. the students are as strong as elephants, i couldn't stop walking or else i would've gotten pushed and trampled... i bought you a little something!" (name) held their hand out, passing an energy drink to idia.

"o-oh. no, it's fine. totally cool. i also really need to make it home, ortho is still there alone..." idia sighed and began the slowest brisk pace. to be fair, he would probably keel over the second he reached an increased heart rate, so at least he was looking out for himself. (name) nodded. "yeah, that's smart..."

idia looked down as he walked, the other teenager just a few steps behind him. "s-so, how was the exam?" idia muttered out, pulling his phone out and checking for any calls or messages. "painfully long, i wanted to ask you something but i forgot... if only i sat next to you ... could've passed you a note."

"ah, yeah... as soon as i get home and see ortho, i can get on (game)... you can join me if you want..." idia suggested, finally looking up from his phone to see (name), who had now began walking beside him. "oh yeah? that'd be cool!"

small talk filled the silence between the two as they walked home in the warm afternoon. as soon as idia got home, of course after dropping (name) off at their house, he dropped everything. rushing around to find ortho was probably the fastest idia has ever moved in his life, and he found ortho napping on the couch as some cartoon played on the tv.

idia sighed with relief and pulled out his phone once more. before he could log onto (game), he had to listen to his favorite artist's new single. his headphones were in his backpack, which he didn't remember putting in there instead of around his neck, but that was a trivial detail. idia went back to where he threw his bag and opened it up ... to find an extra energy drink.

'to idia,

you can have this drink too. i don't drink this kind... oh also, wanna hang out tomorrow? i'm free and you should be as well... it's okay if you can't, but i'd love too. lmk your response, ids ! ( ´ ▽ ` )ﾉ'

the sticky note read, making idia cock an eyebrow. hangout tomorrow... sounds fun... WAIT? never once has idia shroud THOUGHT THAT A HANG OUT SOUNDED FUN. were these even his own thoughts!?

idia short circuited for a bit before smiling and grabbing his headphones, setting the drink with the note on a nearby table. he pulled out his phone, plugging in his headphones while he had it, and typed a response back to the note's author.

idia [2:55 pm]

'sticky note on a drink? how cliché lol... but sure. let's hang out tomorrow.'

authors note? god damn this took so much longer than it should've... that's okay though!! it's done now!! (watch me disappear for another month) school has taken a lot of my energy and time and effort but we UP now!!! i'm excited to wrap this story up ... (5 chapters left. Aughhhh.) because i wanna write a new one about the 1920's (VERY INTO THAT DECADE AS RECENTLY.)

Fun thing about my school: instead of bells coming through a speaker on the wall, a few years back they changed it so that it comes through teachers' computers. To make sure that its audible, the system automatically turns up the computer's volume for a few seconds.

Now I typically keep my computer's volume at about 15%. That's plenty loud for anything I'm doing. For the bells that gets cranked up to 90%.

So as a nice treat a few times a day I get bells blasted into my face at about 6 times the comfortable volume.

Old ass landline phone collection (mostly Sony)

Clockwise from top right:

Sony SPP-320 base unit: works, but the speakerphone function howls. It does not currently transit mid-40 mHz range frequency to cordless unit due to signal interference. This design looks like it belongs in an office more than a home, but was sold as a household system.

Brother IntelliFAX-2840: My cactus keeps it company. I use the output tray as a tissue box holder, when I seldom do print something I just take the tissue box off. This does not actually work as a fax machine in my setup, because the bridge I use to connect my cell phone to the analog devices, Cell2Jack, only transmits with enough fidelity for voice signals.

Sony IT-B3: not actually connected to the wall jack, just hooked on the same wall plate and daisy chained to the other phones. The end of the RJ-9 cord that connects to the dial pad broke off, so it had to be super glued in.

Sony SPP-320 cordless handset: powers on, but does not work due to above mentioned radio frequency interference. I would love to get it working at some point, but I've read that since so many modern objects - household appliances, IoT devices - emit signals of various frequencies, the technology this device uses is rendered useless due to the interference. Brick is beautiful.

Sony IT-B5: purchased in order to have full modularity, and due to slight difference from IT-B3 - three one-touch dial keys, mute function, heavier handset. Currently connected to my computer via RJ-9 to 3.5mm audio jack adapter. I plan to add the dial pad into the network and use the AirPods case as a hook weight.

Sony TAM-100 answering machine: works almost flawlessly. One of the grip feet underneath broke off, so it wobbles. The "three mailbox" function does not seem to be working, also perhaps due to the limitations of the Cell2Jack. I discovered this model at a thrift store, but upon getting a power adapter for it, I found that the unit did not work, so I purchased a second (pictured), and plan to repurpose the first broken machine. It and the SPP-320 base are placed on top of a pair of stereo speakers.

Cortelco 2500: the company that manufactures these phones is still in business, and is a direct descendent of Western Electric, the company that manufactured phones for the AT&T monopoly before the breakup of the Bell system. I love the simplicity of this phone, and wanted to make it as old school as possible, so I placed lace underneath, and a phone book in the drawer below, along with a pen and notepad. This reminds me of the phone setup my great aunt had, complete with a gossip bench. I also wrapped the cord around the base, just like the front man had it in Squid Game.

This is definitely overkill. This fascination overtook me sometime last fall, so I figured I could look into a few different models, but had to restrain myself. I really want a functioning cordless unit, but the one I found on eBay would be about $50 with shipping and taxes included. I know price gouging when I see it. I put in an offer for $20, and it was automatically rejected. This is it for now and for the foreseeable future. Maybe I will find a fix for the current cordless unit I have.

He's surprised to see her here, especially in the schools uniform

Hes not complaining!! He's glad he's able to keep an eye on her

He greets her and pats her head

Livia just giggles and grabs his hand, keeping his hand on her head

Rollos vice president is shocked by the warm smile on Rollos face

Rumors start to spread about Rollo and Livias relationship

Rollo shut them down so fast, glaring at everyone who spoke of the rumor

He was NOT gonna allow absolutely ANYONE ruin Livias school years here

Livia attends the school with Elikai and Barin

They were so happy, although surprised, to see her here

The trio hugged tightly which made Rollo jealous

"Hey little sis." "Hey big brothers!!"

Both boys got letters from Lilia, reminding them to keep their eyes on her

Keep their eyes on her they did

Livia got a private room right across from theirs

They always come bother her after school as well

Livia is ecstatic about being in this school with her two brothers and her best friend!

She follows Rollo around, which shocks most of the students

Livias family isn't able to visit as much, so she usually mirror calls them

Malleus always greets her with a smile on his face, although she can tell he's worried

Nex and Vex congratulate her on getting into a good school

Lilia is worried sick about her being so far from him, and asks her endlessly if she has everything she needs

Silver and Kuro have to calm their father before he fainted from not breathing because he was speaking so much

Golden gets the low down from Livia of everything that happened in the school before their call

Shadow is VERY twitchy, since he's never been this far from Livia before and even further since she's at NBC

Maria always checks up on Livia, even scolding her at times

Rollo is always walking around in the background of the call

None of them saw his face though

His back was turned to them because he was looking at Livias assigned homework

"Liv who's that?" "My best friend! He's helping with homework!"

Nobody and I mean NOBODY approaches Livia with bad intentions

Rollo made that perfectly clear to everybody in the school

Everyone knows how protective Rollo is of Livia

Only once did some students approach her with bad intentions

They told her that Rollo was in trouble in the tunnel system

She rushed there only to find nothing

...a statue was pushed down onto her, pinning her underneath it and practically crushing her

Rollo noticed she didn't arrive for their study time

Nobody knew where she was, whenever he asked they just shook their heads

Rollo almost snaps from worry, sending students to search for her

His vice president found Livia, who had a sprained wrist and a broken leg

Livia had blasted the statue to smithereens and tried to walk but fell over

So they found her laying faced down on the ground

For the first time everyone saw Rollo loose his cool

He SNAPPED and demanded for the guilty party to come clean

"WHO??!!!! WHO DID THIS COME FORTH NOW!!!!!" "President, please relax!!"

Elikai had to calm the angry male down

Barin used a spell to check Livias memories while she was out cold

The culprits were found in no less than a ten minutes

When Rollo was done with them they apologized to Livia

Afterwards they avoided her like the plague

Rollo takes Livia to the town after she's better

He has her try all kinds of sweet treats and shows her some of the items there

Livia is so happy about being in the City of Flowers with him

When Rollo invites students from NRC to visit, Livia is present and greets everyone

Malleus, Silver and Sebek are the most happy to see her

Silvers happiness didn't surprise Rollo, but Malleus and Sebeks happiness did

She's present for everything except the flowers appearing

Rollo had placed her into a temporary sleeping state and hid her in the student council room

He didn't want the blessing given to him be taken away

The boys found her there sleeping soundly, wrapped up in a comfy blanket

Malleus did not take it well..

He immediately woke her up without thinking and told her what was happening

Livia was forced to wait in the room while they stopped Rollo

At the end of it, Livia runs over to Rollo and hugs him

He's confused and asks her why she's not mad at him

She replies telling him that she's just relieved he's okay

"As long as you're alive, I'm not mad!" "Liv..."

Things mostly go back to normal, but Livia started helping Rollo out with Council stuff

She was shocked when she got a mysterious letter telling her that Malleus had overblotted

The reason I say it's classical conditioning is because I'm trying to make a connection between my child going unaccompanied out into the street and the stimulus of mild pain. Pat loves dogs with salivate simply at the sound of the bell. I would want my child, only if necessary, to make the connection between going unaccompanied out into the road and excessively mild pain.

And as to doing it to an adult. I mean the only reason I wouldn't is because I wouldn't have to but if for some reason I did have to, sure I would do that to an adult. Giving them a mild slap on the wrist or on the butt? A slap that would sing for about 10 to 15 seconds? Sure, if there was a reason of course I do that to an adult. There would just be no reason for it probably. But I do agree with you; if you wouldn't do it to an adult, no it should not be done to a child. But you're assuming that I wouldn't do it to an adult.

But you just said it yourself, you said that it CAN cause trauma for the victim, not that it WILL or DOES. The word can does not make an automatic conclusion, it does not make an every single case scenario. I fully admit that it absolutely can traumatize somebody, but not that it always does. Like I said, every single adult ranging from roughly their 80s down to probably their 50s in the United States who went through the public school system would be traumatized if that were the case and that's just simply not true.

See, this is where we differ. You're saying that what I'm advocating will actually harm a child and I am saying it absolutely will not. It will not under the right circumstances, no not simply because of the amount of pressure applied but more importantly the already established relationship between the child and the parent. If the parent is good, if the parent is attentive, loving, nurturing, under all other circumstances except an instance that would probably happen between one to five times and the child's entire life, no this is not going to traumatize a child. They will love and trust their parent and know that their parent is not abusive. If there was other abuse going on of some sort, then yes, this would only serve to aggravate the problem.

I don't doubt that there have been people traumatized by spanking, probably many of them. That was never in question for me. I doubt that spanking my child like I said a total of probably five times maximum and yet providing them with a stable and nurturing environment for the rest of their childhood is going to cause them to have severe trauma by any means, if any trauma at all. Do I have proof of this? In all fairness and honesty, no I don't. But I do have common sense. I also have the Bible which I strongly prefer to research.

I'll give you an example of how flawed research can be. Take the COVID-19 vaccines. If I want to, I can go online and find a ton of research advocating their effectiveness but I can also go online and find just as much research advocating how much damage they can cause. The point is, with the Internet these days, it is hard to tell what research is legitimate. I'm not saying that the research on spanking isn't legitimate, I'm sure most of it is. But you have to consider the type of study done, was it blind or double blind, What was the bias of the researcher going into such research, there are just so many different factors. I don't have faith in science. It's too biased, it's too easily falsified these days, it's to flawed.

Let me correct you there, I'm not trying to convince the rest of the world of anything. I'm responding to a whole bunch of people who chose to respond to me. I stated an opinion. I stated one opinion. Now? I'm responding to a bunch of people who don't like my opinion. I'm not trying to change any of your minds. I'm not trying to change anyone's mind. I'm trying to convince you that you're not going to change mine.

And as to what punishment is and isn't acceptable, again that is my opinion. If there was a law preventing such punishment then of course I would adhere to it. I do believe in following the law. But as of now, what I am talking about has no type of law preventing me from doing so.

Everyone is so quick to state that something is abusive. Abuse requires motive, either motive or excessive harm. The motive behind abusing a child is to hurt someone who is powerless and defenseless, someone who is apparently supposed to be weaker than yourself. That's not what I'm talking about doing at all. I'm talking about taking a very small and mild preventative step to try and ensure that my child lives. I am doing this for my child safety, not for some kind of weird sadistic reason. There's a very big difference between this and abuse.

It's OK, you can make my position clear as you say. I think if anybody goes to my blog my position will be fairly clear there as well. But yes, I have made up my mind. And I sleep very well knowing that it provides my child with an extra measure of safety. That a maximum of like three minutes of mild pain in my child's entire childhood could possibly save their life? Yep, all I know is I'm going to make a very good mother, not a perfect one but a good one.

When people get pregnant, they will give up smoking, give up alcohol, give up coffee and soda, give up fondue and raw cheese, give up cold cuts and sushi, all because they have heard somewhere, from someone, that these things can be bad for the baby. They don’t know the research, haven’t looked at the studies, can’t talk about sample sizes and control groups. But their dedication to their future child’s safety is so strong, their caution is so overpowering, that they give up these things just in case.

So it baffles me when those same people will insist on spanking their kids.

Even when they are shown the research.

Regardless of what the experts in the field say.

No matter who says it.

Or how it is said.

People are so invested in this ability to hit their kids without judgement or consequence, that it absolutely confounds me.

Robotic technology and artificial intelligence (AI) applications have quickly crept into just about every industry. New vehicles now come loaded with safety features to compensate for human error. AI technology is being used to quickly analyze and summarize large bodies of text, making life easier for students and professionals alike. More trivially, some bars have installed self-pour beer stations, meaning less time spent in line and more time with friends. Even the cleaning industry — which has been historically averse to newer technology — has shown a willingness to explore robotics technology. To get a better sense of why and how the industry has made the jump, Sanitary Maintenance spoke to Bill McGarvey, director of training and sustainability at Imperial Dade, Jersey City, New Jersey. Sanitary Maintenance (SM): Right or wrong, end users often seem to think many robotic technologies are the same or similar. Why do you think that point of view exists and is it justified? Bill McGarvey: Part of it just goes to the nature of the business. We tend to lump things together. When we look at the various types of equipment, you've got different manufacturers — and they've all got different bells and whistles. Some of that certainly is part of the reason why the customer gravitates toward a particular model. But I think when we talk about this as an industry, we refer to robotic technology and folks see it as one monolithic system. They don't necessarily see that there are various operating systems from different organizations, but instead consider it all as autonomous machinery. SM: What are some of the more popular floor care robotic offerings on the market and what makes them unique? McGarvey: The most popular technologies I've seen are either automatic floor scrubbers or vacuums that tackle either hard or soft flooring. I'm sure when manufacturers were first trying to decide where robotic machinery makes sense, they looked at larger-scale equipment and bigger areas, like long hallways. It didn’t take long to realize the advantages of using autonomous equipment in these areas. One of the first robotic scrubbers I saw was at a school district where a longtime custodian had retired. Times were tough, and the district couldn’t afford to replace this person. The custodial supervisor at the time was one of the early adopters of robotics and brought in a floor scrubber. He had to reassign some of the work, but was able to let the scrubber take on some of what a former full-time employee or full-time equivalent was producing. This was a few years ago, but as we look back on that time, we can see that's where the trend was. Some people saw it as replacing workers, but in reality, that’s not normally the case. An organization could hypothetically set out to do that, but I think more often than not, end users are just trying to fill cleaning voids that they couldn't fill with people. Then there was the advent of the pandemic. People realized that the custodial team could make an impact when it comes to protecting public health — and protecting health is more important than having the shiniest floors. If custodial teams can reassign the work that doesn't need that human touch, they can free up the people to take care of things that, frankly, are more important, especially when we start talking about protection of health. SM: Do you think that autonomous technology is here to stay? McGarvey: I don't think autonomous equipment is going anywhere. Manufacturers will continue to improve them just like we've seen with the traditional floor scrubber — which were automated floor machines when they first came out; meaning that they dispensed the solution at the touch of a button. We are presently seeing the evolution of some of this equipment, so I would expect to continue seeing it progress further. SM: When it comes to selling autonomous floor care products, what features are the most important to customers? McGarvey: Multiple factors come to mind. When we talk about healthcare and education, safety is first and foremost. Nobody wants their patients or students to be run over by robots. Manufacturers have done a good job of addressing that. I also think the ease of operation is important. Some machines are more complicated in terms of establishing the route. Others are more easily adaptable, so they might have their regular route, but then an obstacle comes up. For some, users can hop on, override the machine, and operate it themselves. Other machines require a quick lap to learn the route and from there it'll go on its own. The ease of routing is important. Service after the sale is important, too. Some manufacturers, at a certain point — if ongoing service is being paid for — will replace the machine for users if they're having problems, which was never done in the old days. SM: Robotic floor care can certainly get expensive. How can distributors sell end user customers on its long-term value? McGarvey: I think part of it is looking at that return on investment (ROI). What job or jobs is this machine accomplishing? And while frontline teams aren’t trying to put anybody out of work, robotic equipment offers a fixed-cost solution to frontline cleaning jobs that are difficult to fill. We're also talking about trying to improve the quality of life for custodial personnel. Oftentimes there has been a fine line between providing the service and being able to pay people. Robotics may offer an avenue to take care of some of that work, while also putting the employer in a position to better reward the people that are there taking care of the bigger tasks. SM: Do you have any advice on how end users should be maintaining their robotic equipment? McGarvey: A big piece of maintaining any equipment and keeping it in working order is making sure all those little bullet points within the operator's manual are being addressed. Distributors should educate their end user customers to make sure fluids are being emptied out, that the equipment is being properly rinsed, that parts are being wiped down — really, all the things that we would normally look to take care of on any piece of equipment. SM: When considering robotic floor equipment, how crucial is it for distributors to provide good customer service, especially when the price point is higher? McGarvey: It's something that customers must weigh when making their ultimate decision because, as we said, these folks are taking a leap of faith in this technology. The last thing they want to deal with is a problem with the machine, and now they can't get somebody on the phone.
