Doubt - Watched November 2024

Quick summary: A criminal profiler is investigating a case and he believes his daughter may be involved, much doubt ensues.

What brought me to it: You know it's Yoon Kyung Ho.

What I liked: It was an intriguing little mystery but I REALLY liked the dynamics between the characters, especially the two leads. That central relationship and how it developed kept me compelled the whole time, and I was very pleased with how things wrapped up.

What I didn’t like: Perhaps not the most realistic depiction of a criminal investigation (as if I know, but still). Also if you're sensitive to domestic violence/violence against women, this can be a little tough at times.

The standouts: Chae Won-Bin was absolutely fantastic at towing the line between sympathetic and suspicious, I couldn't help but root for her the whole time.

Who I would recommend it to: If you're looking for a crime drama OR a family drama, this has you covered. I think if you liked My Name then you might like this -- very different shows, but their vibes aren't a million miles off.

i know im not saying anything new, but fan fiction is an absolutely insane episode to watch with the context of chuck’s control over the narrative. before anyone knows that the winchesters are canonically pawns of the obsessive author of their story, dean breaks the fourth wall, because haha destiel is so silly ridiculous that dean has to poke fun at the audience right, just like jim from the office right.

but holy FUCK. in an episode where a fan criticizes chuck for inserting himself in the story, whose arc is centered around fulfilling their own vision of an alternate spn, dean has the only ever fourth wall break in the entire series. and it’s about DESTIEL—the relationship whose existence, whether platonic or romantic, consistently carries the theme of free will throughout the show. seeing other people acknowledge his feelings for cas evoked an emotion so strong within him, that dean was capable of breaking through the narrative and into reality to avoid it. and in an episode without cas

One Dollar Lawyer - Watched September 2024

What brought me to it: Choi Dae Hoon! I'd seen gifsets of him in the show and it seemed like a fun time.

What I liked: It was a fun time! I laughed out loud a lot during this show and the cases kept me entertained. I especially liked all the character dynamics, they did a great job of allowing characters to have conflict without one just being The Bad One. Also lots of great little character interactions that do nothing to serve the plot but are just nice to see, which is definitely my bag.

What I didn’t like: I think The Big Thing that happened in the flashback was a bit cliche, BUT I really liked the story leading up to it and I like that it gave insight into good behavior for once, rather than justifying bad behavior.

The standouts: Obviously Choi Dae Hoon, but Kim Ji Eun was also super fun. Plus it was nice seeing Namkoong Min play someone likeable since the last character I saw him play was the wooooorst.

Who I would recommend it to: Anyone looking for a mostly-light procedural drama/comedy, or anyone that enjoys looking at over-the-top lawyer fashion.

for the amount of time i spend thinking about erika ishii, i do not post about them NEARLY enough

everything i've ever seen them in, they have been fully dialed in. they understand the genre, they understand the character they're playing, and they NEVER. FUCKING. MISS

my current dnd character is actually based on multiple characters of erika's that i enjoy. my character is a witch (like ame of worlds beyond number fame [thank you to the witch class playtest]) but she is also a brewer who grows weed and shrooms, and deals them, and does them (and her personality is very much modeled off of danielle barkstock in dimension 20's the seven)

i feel that many of my favorite moments from erika are often focused on other characters. but many of those character moments would not have been possible without erika's incredible roleplay and sense for storytelling

and when the moment IS focused on erika's character? spellbinding. groundbreaking. from ame talking to orima in the overgrown shrine to danielle getting a nat 20 at the masquerade ball, i always fall into the scene and feel it so deeply due to erika's skill and poise and commitment to the story being told

tldr i think erika ishii is incredibly talented and wonderful
