Here we are on the 16th of April, the day of the last newsies performance with the OG cast and as I journey towards the theatre I’m thinking - I have a load of random (probably unfinished) notes I’ve made from the different performances I’ve seen since the very first show and I’ve never actually posted them… so guess what I’ll be posting today…

Like I said above - random - unfinished - and totally my personal interpretations based on that specific performance of the day… enjoy…

(29th Nov - the very first preview - sat in FLUSHING AA01)

Ryan as Davey is incredible - he felt like a merging of film and Broadway (the whole show feels like that which I love SO MUCH!) - the moment I realised how incredible his portrayal actually was was in seize the day - specifically when he starts seize the day… with the Broadway version it’s Jack who spurs him on - almost passing the baton to see if he can rally the troops… here Jack is about to call on davey but gets cut off by davey starting to sing - when it happened I thought they’d messed up the timings (and who knows - maybe they did and played it out well - I will find out tomorrow) but I don’t think they did (they must have because for me it’s never happened since) - davey sees how things are falling apart, jacks losing control and makes his position heard - he believes in this cause and he is going to make his position know - he doesn’t need Jack to convince him to help - he takes his moment and his courage, his voice is what successfully rally’s the troops. His boldness even catches Jack off guard - this shows davey taking charge - just like he does in the film.

Love having the Newsies playing in the balconies before the show started (something that also never happened again!) and then having race be the one who essentially starts the show - calling the other Newsies to order - it was really cool. This race doesn’t have the youngsters energy Ben cook has in the Broadway version, he’s very much alike with 92sies race - has his own sense of authority amongst the newsies that’s separate from Jack.

(30th nov - MANHATTAN)

While sat in Manhattan I was able to notice crutchie sat hiding in one of the side spaces during the snyder entrance - when the scene started I did notice him being there but then didn’t think anything of it and watched the scene taking place on the stage - it wasn’t until all the commotion starts with Snyders arrival that I realised crutchie was still there and reacting to the drama on stage… as snyder shouts his threats to jack, you can see crutchie curling up in the corner he’s sat in looking utterly terrified - the dread in his face is heartbreaking to see and visually establishes crutchies fear of snyder and the refuge. This choice of staging is such an interesting inclusion which adds so much to crutchies character - it continues to establish this anxiety within him that’s always growing with each day he isn’t in the refuge - he’s never free from his belief that he’s gonna end up in the refuge and it terrifies him. Beyond that it’s interesting because there’s no acknowledgement or emphasis made to it - other than there being light on him so he can be seen - but that part of the performance space isn’t even visible below a certain point of Manhattan seating - so most don’t even know he’s there - including Jack and crew. In this moment we see (or for those who do actually see him) how isolated he is - whilst Jack, davey and les bond and interact and are watching out for each other when trouble arises, crutchie is totally alone and unnoticed but still hearing and reacting to everything that’s going on over on the main stage. I really love it as a detail!

When the bulls join the fight and knock down one of the newsies (splasher? ( it is in fact splashed)) crutchie’s there trying to help with some of the others - they fight off the cop but everything is heating up - Crutchie is still trying to help but Albert is there and takes responsibility for the fallen Newsies Splasher, he tells crutchie - “I‘ll take care of him, you get out of here crutchie!” Albert leaves with the newsie splasher but crutchie stays amongst the fighting - and we all know how that ends. Albert looking out for crutchie is one of my favourite things to see in the show!

There’s just something really interesting with Tommy boy - he’s the one I’m kinda obsessed with watching and wanna know more about. He’s always isolated from everyone else prior to the scab situation… (a lot more on him later…)

A Gentleman in Moscow has landed. It's not about who you are. It's about the people you meet. A Russian aristocrat is spared from death and placed on house arrest while the Bolshevik Revolution plays out before him.

The limited series take on Amor Towles' 2016 novel tiptoes along an allegorical line, without toppling over into either outright whimsy or voyeuristic gawking at the flawed idealism and generational traumas of the Bolshevik Revolution.

Gentleman in Moscow is the upcoming television series for Paramount+ with Showtime based on the novel of the same name by Amor Towles (2016) Ben Vanstone is the writer, executive producer, and showrunner. The series is set to star Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Winstead plays Anna Urbanova, a Russian film star. While the Count has an instant attraction to her, Anna loves playing hard to get.

June 6-July 6th, Washington

We wandered downtown Port Angeles on the June 6th, where we posed with one of the dozens of sculptures around town.

On the 7th, we headed up to Deer Park to take a spectacular view of Hurricane ridge we'd been told about... gorgeous as promised.

Gae was preparing for the upcoming Port Angeles Garden Club meeting, creating a hat with a bee on it (Bee in a Bonnet theme), arriving at this colorful display:-)

My buddy Mike came out to PA for a bike ride on the Adventure Trail portion of the Discovery trail... great ride with nice views. Now we just need to cover the remaining 25 miles!

My nephew Zach, his girlfriend Iris, and their new family addition, Joey came to visit on the 16th, where we wandered the Peabody Creek trail that runs by the end of our block.

Zach's Mom and Dad joined in the visit on the 18th, where we caught up since our last visit at Christmas. Three generations!

Gae and I attended the PA Garden Club luncheon on the 19th, for a nice lunch and live entertainment (member presentations).

Gae and I rode the Discovery Trail along the waterfront to check out the areas of her responsibility in her new role at the Garden Club. Thankfully a large volunteer group will spread the load maintaining the trail and garden beds downtown.

The neighbor's girlfriend stopped by with 9 German Shepherd puppies she was selling. I gotta say, timing is everything, as Gae happened to hear them yipping, checked out the noise and added another member to the family. Meet Raina:-) Kind of hard to see between the two white pups.

I got over to Seattle for a round of golf with Andy and Mike on the 29th, followed by a Mariners game on the 30th. The team started well, but was crushed by the end of the game... fun time in spite of the score.

July 2nd I joined our visitors Debb and Kipp for a tide-pooling session out at Salt Creek Rec Area in the perfect weather.

It was a great day for seeing some amazing creatures in the pools, like this purple Sea Urchin.

Gae skipped the tide pooling to join in on a church group hike to Madison Falls, near the Elwa River.

Rob and Ben joined us for the weekend of July 3rd, and were happy to get up to Deer Park to take in the views. Behind them is Port Angeles with the Ediz Hook and the Strait of Juan De Fuca.

We made another trip to Deer Park with Kipp and Deb on the 4th, where the haze from Canadian Fires shortened viewing distances.

We took the Blackball ferry to Victoria on the 6th to visit Butchart Gardens... another flawless day:-)

The gardens were as spectacular as we remembered from our last visit over 30 years ago.

Gae wanted to ride the carousel, but we limited her to the bronze stationary horse... chalk up another injury free outing!

We headed for Chinatown after the gardens for some food, where we had to travel the narrowest street in Victoria. Built originally to keep the police from approaching illicit business by horse, giving owners and patrons time to hide their dirty laundry. I would HIGHLY recommend the Fan Tan Cafe, and specifically Spicy Lo Wor Won Ton, unbelievable good!

Day 0+

The day has finally arrived 🤩 I'm having a pre Prime Time "gain" year (well it’s a 1/4 year experience 😅).  Bec Wilson says Prime Time is the ultimate guide to navigating those juicy, potential filled years in the lead up to retirement.

Originally I called this my gap year, because I never had one after uni, then it quickly became my "gain" year after listening to one of Ben Crowe's podcasts.  I had a different kind of gap year last year...from men, more specifically intimate relationships with men, as I do realise I can't escape the gender completely!  It's been so refreshing, and beneficial emotionally and financially, I’ve extended this into this year too.

In relation to my "gain", I do say "words create worlds"!  With Ben's wise reframe, I'm looking at what's in the "gain", not what's in the "gap"!

The year became a quarter as I spent a little too much $$ refreshing the apartment I bought for Rose to live in while I had the year 🥴 Rose has prime position in the master bedroom with lovely views of Brisbane city from the full floor to ceiling windows, while I've taken up residence in the spare room!  She did say to me "now that you're only going away for 13 weeks Mum do you want me to move out of the master bedroom?"  I said "no, I'll just live in everybody's spare room!"  This might actually come to fruition as I've rented out my spare room until 21st August (and I return on 29th June)...offers anyone?

This trip is 13 weeks, Portugal (9 weeks solo), Spain & Morocco (with Rose meeting me in Madrid).  I took the Barefoot Investor's tip and put an ad on Upwork and found Eva, the lovely Slovenian doctor studying in Portugal, and well networked.  I have a bed every night and I know how I'm getting from one place to the next (bus, train, manual car hire, private transfers and camels!). I've also been following several facebook groups over the last year and I've posted that I'm coming!  I have four women to catch up with when I arrive in Portimão where I'm staying for the first five weeks.  I’ve already called it “home” on the offline maps.me app.

I’ve been pondering the daily questions / moments and activities to ensure I am present to my trip.  Any input gratefully received.

I'm thinking a reset of mind and body is first (I'm going to scale my pain and see how long it takes to dissipate), expanding my connections, having stretch experiences, and get ready for coffee, food and wine porn.

Pilgrimage to Big Ben

When people think of London, there are probably a few things that immediately jump to mind. Perhaps it’s Buckingham Palace, or maybe the London Eye, The Shard, or of course, Big Ben. On the 29th of September, just a day after I arrived in London, I decided to make my way to the iconic Big Ben. With another classmate of mine, we jumped on the humid and stuffy tube at Earl’s Court Station and made our way over to Westminster Station, towards where this monument is. I expected having to walk around and explore the area in order to find it, but as it turns out, Big Ben towers over the station’s gate. As excited as I was to see the tower, it was a bit underwhelming, probably because nobody else gave it a second look.

100% I am always craving that Validation(tm) when I post a thing - one person liking or kudos-ing or especially commenting/reblogging will make my entire goddamn week and I will still be thinking about it with fondness in my heart months/years later tbh (also it's just very nice/rewarding writing the fic I wish to see in the world which is to say Lost fic about Dan because there is not enough of it in this world)

Boy howdy I am once again drawing a blank on interesting details from The Way Home that aren't already in the text/going to be in the text eventually hmmmmmm

The very beginning of the fic with Dan going to London takes place at the end of October 2005, specifically the day he arrives is the 29th (yes I have the exact date written down because of course I do) - this is incidentally literally the day after Ben visits Charles Widmore (in canon) in the middle of the night to inform him that he's going to kill his daughter (no there isn't an exact date for that canonically but it's somewhere around the 28th probably), so the timing of him finding out Dan is around/subsequently recruiting him to protect Penny from this danger that she's in (aka Ben) is kind of perfect?

Which is also why his plan of sending Dan to find her and "protect" her is kind of like. Two birds with one stone, because at least in Charles' mind Dan is probably in danger too, if Ben decides to not be picky and settles for killing his son instead of his daughter (if he actually knows that Dan is Charles' son?) - and so by sort of herding the two of them (Penny and Dan) together, it's sort of a way of ensuring that they'll both probably be safe from Ben. I started to ramble more about this but I just realized it might be mildly spoilery for Future Things so nevermind but yeah!!

The tragedy of Camp Cretaceous

Six kids reported missing after the Jurassic World catastrophe, presumed dead.

Just over one week ago six kids traveled to Isla Nublar to be the first campers to experience Jurassic World’s new summer camp, Camp Cretaceous. Unfortunately, this meant that they were there the day that the dinosaur outbreak led to multiple deaths and the evacuation of the island.

Among the campers were Kenji Kon (son of real estate tycoon Mr. Kon), Yasmina Fadoula (a junior olympian), Brooklynn (a popular influencer and YouTuber), Sammy Gutierrez, Ben Pincus, and Darius Bowman.

After their camp was attacked, the campers, separated from any adults, made their way towards the docks where ferries were coming to evacuate the island. They were seen boarding a monorail to the docks, but they never arrived.

The campers are presumed dead, and our hearts go out to their families in this difficult time.

End Of Clipping

Six months pass. The only people who still miss the kids are those who actually knew them personally. Brooklynn’s channel and Instagram are still up, but no new content has been added, and the Unboxing Camp Cretaceous videos have been marked private. So it’s a surprise to everyone when a new video is posted to the channel.

The video starts with the view from a boat, looking over the waves at the land. From off camera Darius can be heard, his voice emotional.

DARIUS: We made it guys! Hello Costa Rica!

The camera turns around showing that Darius is the one filming. He’s standing in the cockpit of a yacht, Kenji standing next to him at the wheel.

KENJI: Yeah... we did.

Kenji smiles, and the video cuts to Brooklynn standing on the bow of the boat with Yaz, Sammy and Ben.

All of the campers' clothes are now dirty and stained. Ben is now wearing an undershirt and a bandana made from his old shirt. Brooklynn’s hair now has brown roots, and the old pink has faded quite a bit. And Kenji’s face now has the scruffy beginnings of a beard. It’s clear that they have been away from civilization for a long time.

BROOKLYNN: Take that Isla Nublar! We’re still alive!

YAZ: Traumatized, but alive.

From where he’s standing behind them Ben laughs.

SAMMY: Oh come on Yaz, it could have been worse.

YAZ: Sammy, I love you, really, but any worse and at least a couple of us would no longer have to worry about being traumatized.

Sammy thinks for a moment, before shrugging.

SAMMY: Eh, point taken,

Sammy pouts,

SAMMY: But did you have to say it out loud?

Brooklyn laughs. And then turns to look up at the cockpit, the window of which is broken.

BROOKLYNN: How’re we doing Captain?

Kenji grins.

KENJI: Well, as your captain, it is my privilege to say: Six months down! And only a couple hours left!

DARIU, BROOKLYNN, & SAMMY: Woo-Hoo!

Part 15 - A Dagger for a Devotee

Now that all of the ingredients for the antidote were gathered and added, the potion was as good as finished. It just had to simmer on for a while. If the instructions were correct, it would be finished on June 29th, which was the last day of school. Graduation day. One day before the wedding. 

The wedding. Tom thought about it a lot. It would happen. That, he knew. The plan was to give Elsie the antidote on their wedding day so that she would be completely healed and they could still keep a low profile towards Marvolo and Morfin. Their wish would be fulfilled then, and even if the Gaunts were going to ask for more, they wouldn’t know that Elsie wasn’t under their might anymore. Tom was sure they were going to try to pressure him by threatening to hurt Elsie someday, even when he was married. That was just in their nature. They would never be satisfied.

He wondered how long it would take them to figure out that she had been healed. Weeks, months, years? And how they would react then. Were they going to take out their anger on him? The more he thought about it, the less he cared. He had even fantasised about it if he was honest. That Marvolo would lose his temper and would attack him. Tom had waited so long for an excuse to pay his Grandfather back, his fingers were itching just thinking about it. Oh, the things he would like to do to him were unspeakable and the grin on his face only widened the longer he envisioned them. He would welcome the opportunity with open arms. 

Some nights, when he lay awake and couldn’t just fall asleep yet, Tom wondered if his life would have been different, if he would have turned out to be another person, had he not been brought up by the Gaunts. He didn’t wish for it, like his fiancée had mentioned so often, no, but he still couldn’t help but wonder. Was there a possibility for a different Tom Riddle to exist? One that would live with parents, one that wasn’t as cold and narrow-minded, one that could crack a real good joke to his friends? A funny, warm, kind version of him? His stomach squirmed at the thought. Disgusting. 

He could have turned out like Benjamin Hilt. Merlin’s sake, what a nightmare that would be. To act like him, so loud and bothersome. Head in the clouds, mouth always open and never thinking about any consequences. Hilt had it so easy. But nevertheless, Ben’s attitude was intriguing. Annoying yes, but intriguing. Tom wouldn’t have thought Hilt would be able to keep his muggleborn mouth shut and keep the pact a secret, but he hadn’t told anyone about it yet, as far as Tom was aware. And he didn’t seem to keep his word out of fear, but rather out of belief. Ben wasn’t the type to have deep thoughts, by the looks of it at least, but he had his priorities set. And for that Tom respected him. Everything Ben did seemed to come so easily from within, not wasting one too many thoughts. It was something so deeply ingrained that it must have come naturally. 

He was so different compared to Tom’s friends. Or whatever word one would use for people like Avery, Lestrange and the others. They were nothing more than followers, blind and mindless. They wouldn’t just offer their help to be a good person. They always wanted something in return, even if it was just Tom’s recognition. And he knew, if someone else were to take his place, they would drop him in an instant. Their loyalty was superficial and egoistic. Just as his own. He would drop them too if someone more useful were to show up and solicit themselves. 

That was how it always had been. How he had thought friendships were meant to be. A mutual agreement, quite similar to business. Be polite, make use of a person as much as you can, make sure they’re intimidated enough to keep their knowledge to themselves and wish them well on their way out. Simple, beneficial and most importantly efficient. 

But what his fiancée, Ben and Camille had was so different. He had waited for Camille and Ben to ask for something in return. Weeks had gone by, where he had anticipated for them to come up and ask for a favour. A note from the head boy to get out of detention, or something else. But they hadn’t. They had helped to steal the Banshee tears and were still tending to the potion in the Come and Go Room every day. For nothing? He couldn’t fathom it at first, and only when he thought about it again, it came to his mind that this could be what real friendship was like. 

He didn’t like how much it churned him, how much consideration it had taken to come to this conclusion, when apparently for other people, that was the most natural thing in the world.

Tom obtained a much greater deal of wit than Ben, without a doubt, but yet, Hilt possessed so much more emotional intelligence than Tom could ever dream of. And he was jealous of him. That Ben could just walk through life, listen to his gut and trust that whatever it would tell him would be with good intent. Tom could have made real friends too then. He could have developed that trust to his gut too, if he hadn’t been fed those vicious thoughts by the Gaunts his whole life. He could have even gotten to know a muggle for all he knew, if he hadn’t been told, day after day, how worthless and irrelevant they were. That’s what they had always said. But the Gaunts had lied so often, maybe they had lied about that too. He had believed them for so long that he couldn’t even tell which opinion was his own and which one had been planted in his head by someone else. 

And then came three people who acted against all his values, showing him a glimpse of what life could be like. Everything he knew, his view of the world, as well as his belief, had collapsed in a matter of months. He had learned so many new things, he wasn’t even sure if he knew himself anymore. 

Had he changed? He must have, somehow at least. It was ironic, how the Gaunts’ plan to marry him off to a pureblood witch, who they thought would bring their family safety and respect, turned out to result in the complete opposite. Nothing, not even Marvolo’s paranoia and obsession for being a step ahead had come of use. They all had turned against them in the end, and for what? The faint idea of power and reputation? What worth did those things even have when everyone who bowed down to you only did so out of fear? They would take the first chance they got to stab you in the back with the very dagger you had given them. If you can’t trust your devotees, why bother?

Trust was something he thought of a lot, too. Did someone truly trust him? His fiancée for instance. She had put her faith in his hands several times in the past, yes. But would she trust him with her life? Had he done enough to earn her deepest trust yet? Or would she let him fall too when the opportunity arrived? When the deal was sealed, her sister was free and the Gaunts were powerless. Would she leave him, or would she stay? It kept him up at night when he thought about being alone again. Not because he depended on someone to be there, he was fine on his own. But he couldn’t change the fact that he wanted her to stay. And only her. No one else would do.

No one else had ever awoken that part of him before. That part that wasn’t as selfish, as calculating and cautious. And he knew no one else could. There was something about her, that slight brush of a hand when she touched him, or that unintentional notion of a smile she wore so often that broke out a whirlwind of emotion inside of him again and again. And he still didn’t even know what it was that he felt. It was nerve-racking, this mixture of nervousness, excitement and joy. If he had been able to, he would have buried those feelings long ago, deep down somewhere where they could have never disturbed him again. But he hadn’t. And he was glad about that. No matter how irritating it was, he craved it now. 

He craved to see her as often as possible, the sound of her voice, the touch of her fingers on him. Her mind, her body and everything in between had him longing, thirsting for even more proximity. He ached for that bond so much, it had become a hassle and he needed to suppress it to prevent himself from shying her away. 

But it was hard to feign composure when all he wanted was right there before him and she was so willing to accept his bid. It took all his might not to do what he most wanted and lock her up in a golden cage, where she would remain for him alone. His secret, his very own jewel. But most importantly his.

He couldn’t do that to her, he knew, she wouldn’t allow it. And he wouldn’t dare. He would never dare to add imbalance to the fragile structure they had built over the last year. She had come back to him eventually, day by day. He just needed to remind himself of that. Wait and improve his patience. Trust that she desired him as much as he did her. And by all accounts, she must have. Why else would she treat him the way she did? The idealist in him feasted on the way she acted towards him. How fearless and comfortable she was. How her mood could swing from gentle to feisty in a second, never dreading his reaction. Her honesty, which was the easiest, as well as the hardest thing to give someone, was what he most cherished her for.

Never before had he experienced something so close to perfection. The purity of emotion, so vibrant and raw it nearly hurt. But its absence was even worse, like a bottomless hole that sucked him in and ate him up from the inside. He had become addicted to the feeling and he would do anything to keep it. 

He would marry her, yes, and willingly so. He would do anything she asked from him. But if she was to leave him then, if she would take that dagger and push it into his heart, he knew it would destroy him.

What's the five-doesn’t-get-stuck-in-the-future-but-things-turn-out-the-same AU like??

:D I waited until I’d watched season 2 to answer this because I wanted to see if it gave me more ideas (which it did...but I’ll put those in another post if people want so I don’t have to spoiler tag this one).  This AU was brainstormed with @smallerthanzer0​ a while back, and they deserve extra credit because they are the one who listened to me going “lmfao what if Five didn’t get stuck in the future and decided to try and get rid of their dad” and said: wait. eva.  THIS COULD BE GOOD.  

so basically.  in this verse:

 Five does not time travel at age 13 and leave his family behind. he considers it, just as in canon, but something stops him.  Outside interference, maybe, or just a niggling voice in his head that cautions him that the risk isn’t worth it.

What Five does do is snoop.  And what he finds is a journal in their father's study with damning notes on Vanya.

He confronts their father about it.  Reginald doesn’t take the challenge to his authority well.

Five is tired and hurting and at some point he realizes: their dad is never going to stop.  And then he thinks: but I could make him.

So Five starts making a plan.

A plan that, should it come to fruition, would knock the Apocalypse off-course entirely.  The Commission, already interested in Five for his abilities, decides that Five needs to be removed from the equation. 

 Notes start arriving for Five in strange places.  Telling him things no one could possibly know, making promises no one could possibly keep.  Warning of the end of all things.  

Five is no fool.  He crumples them up and throws them in the trash.

Then Ben dies on a mission

They’re 15, going on 16, and something goes wrong.  A mission gets all fucked up.  They think things are over, and then a gun goes off.  Ben’s body jerks.  There’s a spray of blood.  He stumbles, and then the beast comes tearing out.

 Run, Ben begs, and his siblings do, because there’s nothing else for them to do.  Not unless they want to die too.

 But Five can’t.  He promised.  He promised that he’d protect them.   And if he leaves Ben here…that means he’s already failed.  Blood is pouring from the bullet wound in Ben’s shoulder, dribbling down the corner of Ben’s mouth.  He’s hovering in the air, limp and unconscious.

Someone, Klaus maybe, makes a sickened noise and lunges for Ben.  But Luther stops him, catches him around the waist and bodily carries him out.

 Go, Five says, as his siblings make it to the door.  Allison is the last one out.  

Come on, come on, Five, she says, holding a hand out to him.  There’s tears trickling down her face, but she’s trying so hard to keep it together, and Five hates to break her heart any more.  He smiles at her.  

Sorry sis, he says, and slams the door in her face.

Ben’s tentacles are still violently attacking anything within reach; the only reason why Five is still in one piece is because Ben is unconscious and without Ben, the tentacles don’t seem to have eyes or any idea what to aim for.

 But it’s too late.  Five’s been doing this long enough to know when someone is fatally injured.

 But Five has one last trick to try.  And if it doesn’t work…well then.  At least he died giving it his best shot.

 Are you watching? He snarls at the ceiling.  Are you watching?  This is me saying yes.  The deal.  I’ll take your fucking deal, god damn it.

 His world goes hazy, and he doesn’t register the pinprick of pain until the drug is already rushing through his system.

 Huh, he thinks, and then passes out.

From outside, all that’s distinguishable is the sound of Ben’s body tearing itself apart.  Five yells, something inaudible, words swallowed by the din.  There’s a flash of light.  And all is quiet.  

 Ben's body disappears along with Five’s and no one knows what happened to them, except for the fact that they must certainly be dead.

OK I’m putting the rest under a read more because this is long and I don’t want to be rude lmfao.

The Commission wants Five to kill people, just like in canon.  And Ben is...well, the Commission works with time and reality.  They have uses for a boy who can open portals between dimensions, though none of them are very pleasant. 

 In return...Ben gets to live, and at the end of it all the Commission will let them retire with time, money, and the resources to do whatever they want to Reginald Hargreeves.  

(Neither of them buys that, of course.  They're both too valuable.  Five is habitually suspicious, and they both have their doubts about where that mystery bullet that hit Ben came from.  And of course, though Ben and Five don't know it yet, the Commission is killing two birds with one stone with this trick, because taking both of them out of the picture is key for making sure the scheduled apocalypse happens).

So Five kills people for the Commission; Ben becomes a test subject

And things are different, and in many ways they are the same

Five and the Commission are using each other—Five to save Ben and his siblings.  The Commission want to use Five’s powers, and they want to keep him from knocking the Apocalypse off track 

Five has to go hard and fast in this verse: he’s young, the Commission has less patience for his mistakes, and his coworkers are gunning for him because it is embarrassing to be out done by a 16-year old.  There’s no room for weakness or error.

He only ever allows himself moments of softness with Ben, because Ben…Ben needs it.  And isn’t that why Five is doing this?  Isn’t it why he does everything? To be what his siblings need and more?

Hazel hears about this new test subject they got in the labs.  sibling to the new recruit.  powers like they never saw before.  and Hazel meets Five, and...doesn't like the kid, really, but a kid is a kid and that already sits poorly with Hazel.  

But he has got to get a look at what they're cooking up in the labs, so he drops by the medical wing at one point.

And there's this kid laying in a hospital bed.  bandages wrapped around his chest--not as scrawny as Five, but somehow he just seems smaller. Warm eyes, a bright, real smile--so different from his brother already.  And so they get to talking

And Hazel talks to Ben, and Ben is...fuck, he's such a good kid.  And Five must be too, because Ben is always reading some book or another that he says Five snuck in for him. (Please don't tell, Ben says, wide-eyed.  Hazel crosses his heart, and starts bringing books by the dozen.  They trust him much more than they do Five, and they don't mind that Ben is reading, really.  They just worry that Five is scheming.)   

And at first, Hazel tries to convince himself that he's not going to do anything stupid (though--some part of him knows from day one that if Ben asked, really really asked for his help...Hazel would say yes).  But it gets harder.  The surgeries get more invasive, Five gets more desperate, Ben's skin gets sallower and his smiles get weaker.

Hazel spends a bunch of his free time in the medical wing, keeping Ben company when Five can't.  Reading to him, discussing theoretical physics with him.  Until one day he overhears something he shouldn't--plans for Ben.  Idk what.  Maybe they aren't fatal, maybe they're just painful.  Maybe it's the same as normal, but hearing about this child talked about like a science experiment to pull apart and discard is just too much.  And the next time Hazel and Five brush shoulders in the hall, Hazel grabs Five by the wrist.  Makes a big show of seeming mad.

And Five is watching him with cold, dangerous eyes. He's barely resisting the urge to break Hazel's arm and Hazel knows it.  But something must hold him back; Hazel hopes that Five knows that Hazel isn't faking caring about Ben.  That Hazel wouldn't just attack Five in the middle of a hallway.  He must, because he snaps back a couple times, leans into the banter with witty retorts rather than violence.  And then after all that posturing and threatening, Hazel says: "So I know you think you're hot shit around here, but you listen here.  If you ever talk that way to me again I'll...well," and then he leans down, whispers in Five's ear: "the Handler is going to be out of her office in two hours.  Get the key.  East hallway.  There's a collection of spare briefcases, last room on the left."

 And then he keeps walking.  Ben and Five are gone by that night, and the Commission launches a search mission right away.

They aim for October 1, 2008—the day their siblings are supposed to turn 19, which is the age Ben and Five are now.  They fuck up.  Five is distracted, maybe a patrol bursts through the door and opens fire.

They arrive on October 1, 2018, on their siblings’ 29th birthday.  The briefcase is smoking and sparking, a dozen bullets buried in the side of it.  It’s useless.  Five throws it in the trash.

The family is scattered and ten years older than they planned for.  Reginald Hargreeves is still alive.  The Commission is coming for Five and Ben.  The Apocalypse is looming.

Things are so very different than in canon, but in many ways they’re exactly the same.

Five and Ben take off on a quest to reunite their separated siblings.  Luther, Diego, Allison, Klaus, and Vanya now have two traumatized adolescent brothers to take care of.  It does wonders for group cohesion.

And there’s so much more, but this is ridiculously long already lmfao so I’ll leave off here unless people ask for more deets.  I just have a lot of feelings about this AU.

April 27th- Newcrest Quadruplets Celebrate Birthday!

Their Royal Highnesses, the Newcrest Quadruplets, celebrated their birthday with a formal dinner at the New Moon Palace with family (and Significant Others) only on the invite.

All four princesses arrived wearing matching gold Initial Necklaces, a birthday gift from their father, HM King Cesare Colona.

And of course, how would a birthday dinner for the Quads go, without a photo of the four women together, all of them happy heathy and thriving in their lives.

April 28th- Giselle Marries, Francisco & Ygor Attend

Miss Giselle Castille, younger sister to Fransisco Castille, Marquess of Cedarworth, married Conservation Activist and San Myshuno native, Mr. Shawn Kessler, in a small ceremony at the Cedarworth Estate.

Miss Castille has been living at Cedarworth with her brother and his husband since their marriage, due to the passing of their parents when they were younger, and the recent passing of their Abuela, Mrs. Fredericka Castille, just a few years ago. It was in Granite Falls where Miss Castille met Mr. Kessler, while he was on a work trip studying conservation in the Granite Foothills. The rest, as they say, is history.

Miss Castille was escorted down the aisle by her brother, the Marquess, and her nieces and nephews, Lady Remy, Earl Rhys, and Lady Ruby, served as flower girls and ring bearer for the ceremony.

Congratulations to the new Mr. and Mrs. Kessler, soon to settle in San Myshuno!

April 29th- Antony Breaks Engagement?!

Just announced in the Oasis Springs' society pages: The engagement between Master Antonio Landgraab and Miss Adelaide Fallon has been ended! No word has been confirmed as to who ended things with who, or why the engagement was broken off, but many are pointing to the mysterious and tension-filled encounter between Tony and childhood best friend Yue Dias on the streets of San Myshuno earlier last month. Fans of the couple are hoping this means that Tony has come to his senses and will get "back" together (there is no confirmation the two were ever a couple to begin with) with Yue and live happily ever after. If that's the case, no wonder Miss Fallon would've wanted to get out of there!

April 30th: Ben Rushed To Hospital!

In the early hours of the morning, ambulances were called to the Imperial Palace, and HIH Prince Bebedict was whisked away to the Imperial Hearts Hospital ER. Paps, startled by the ambulances, hurried to the palace gates to snap pictures of what was happening.

Security surrounded the scene, but they were able to spot HIM Tsarina Ekaterina and HIH Prince Matthew, still in their pajamas, consoling each other on the steps as their baby boy was bundled up into the waiting ambulance. No word yet on what it was that caused the Prince to need emergency services, but many think that perhaps it's his lungs- something HIH has had problems with since he was a child.

Whatever it is, we send all our good thoughts and prayers to the Imperial family tonight.

What’s Airing On Cartoon Network? (October 2020)

While trick or treating may not be recommended, to say the very least, we can still celebrate the Halloween season in spirit with new episodes of a lot of shows, most of them premiering every weekday. Along with the Awesome Brawlers, the field of competitors is filled with familiar friends and foes. / The first round of the Bakugan Battle League - Tokyo edition continues. The Awesome Brawlers and their Bakugan battle their way through the challenge and face off against tough competitors. (6:30 AM)

October 11th:

The Second Stage Begins/Mechanoids Attack! - With half of the brawlers eliminated, the second stage of the Bakugan Battle league begins. This round will be a timed race to the finish, with all kinds of tricks and traps that will slow down even the best brawlers. / Mechanoids have crashed the second stage of the Bakugan Battle League, causing all kinds of havoc. The Awesome Brawlers will now have to race against the clock, battling competitors and mechanoids if they want to make it through this round. (6:30 AM)

October 18th:

The Other Fight - Eliminated from the Bakugan Battle League, Ajit is airlifted by drone to a massive cargo ship in the middle of Tokyo Bay. Now that he's on board the cargo ship, he must rescue Dan and Drago, and stop whoever is sabotaging the Battle League. / Dan and Ajit investigate the mysterious cargo ship that the eliminated Brawlers and Bakugan are being held on. Dan races to track down Drago, but along the way runs into a familiar face. (6:30 AM)

October 25th:

The Bakugan Battle League Dash/The Final Stage - With Dan and Ajit eliminated from the Bakugan Battle League - Tokyo Edition, the remaining Awesome Brawlers - Shun, Wynton, Lia and Lightning - race to complete the second stage of the competition. In order to make it to the final stage, the gang will have to pull together to defeat some tough competition. / It's the final stage of the Bakugan Battle League Tokyo Edition!
