Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders is begging president Trump to reconsider the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) denial of an emergency disaster declaration to aid in the recovery from a series of destructive tornadoes and storms that ravaged the red state in March. Sanders, a former White House press secretary to Trump, wrote a lengthy letter last week to her ex-boss detailing the devastation caused by the storms and begging him to reconsider FEMA’s denial. It’s not surprising that states are struggling to get disaster-recovery aid from Trump. In January, he floated eliminating the agency entirely. And last month, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem promised to “eliminate FEMA.” So far, Trump is still refusing to send any help. Remember when people were warning that Trump just wants your vote — that he doesn't care about you? This is what they were talking about.

John Gaius is really the stupidest motherfucker on the planet cause he was working in cryogenics to save the Earth and the Earth gives him magic to Make People Survive Long Term Cryogenics and then he spends months faffing around with his two pet cadavers and live-streaming and building cow walls and wondering “what am I meant to do with these awesome powers” gee if only there had been some context clues, JOHN.

“When I lost you, I was lost too, in this place… In this place, there’s something (nothing) more…” — This Place by Nicolas Snyder
Rewatched “Scavenger’s Reign” and it gave me the urge to draw something in a way inspired by the beautiful landscapes in the series. I’m out of practice with environmental illustrations, but this was a very calming one to make.
Trees so tall their canopies are lost to the eye, but their seeds drift down in gentle light and land among stones jutting from the ground. Not many beings get to witness it.

In case you haven't heard, the U.S. Senate's version of the "Big, Beautiful Bill" includes the sell-off of 250 million acres of public land. The map above shows the lands that would be available for private purchase--ending public access for hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, and other recreational activities. [EDIT: To clarify, it is likely only 3.3 million acres would be sold, not the entire 250 million, but this is still unacceptable.]
Look at all the areas in Oregon and Washington, for example--that includes the majority of the forests in the Cascade Mountains, some of the best remaining places in the Coast Range and Olympics, and large portions of the Blue Mountains, spilling over into Idaho and beyond. We're a region known for our natural beauty, but this bill would put it up for sale to the highest bidders. Who's going to come here to view empty slopes where there were once trees, or waterways polluted with mining sludge? We've already seen what's been done to the Appalachians with timber harvest and mountaintop removal mining.
It's no coincidence that Montana isn't included in this map, by the way. Montana's representatives have already said they wouldn't back anything that would allow federal lands in Montana to be sold, but what's to say they won't throw the rest of us under the bus in order to push the bill through? Not shown in the map, by the way, is the Tongass National Forest in Alaska, one of the biggest areas with old-growth left in the Northern Hemisphere.
What's really galling is that the American people--we who are out there hiking, hunting, horseback riding--are not getting a say in this. Instead, this sale is shoved into a multi-pronged bill that would also gut Medicaid, and raises the debt ceiling by $5 billion (wasn't lowering debt the justification for gutting public services?) And once that land is sold, whether to U.S.-based timber, mining and other special interests, or those in other countries, it's gone. We will never get it back.
And that means that a lot of special places that the people who actually live, work, and play in the Western states enjoy will be destroyed without our consent. People who live across the country play with our natural resources like Monopoly money, without considering the impact on our local economies or our connections to the land that these sales would have. Even those who just come here to visit deserve to be able to explore them as much as we do, without encountering more locked gates across roads, clearcuts, and mining pits.
All of this is to say nothing of the deep insult to indigenous people, who have already lost so much in the past few centuries; this sale would remove so many opportunities to try to undo at least a small portion of the damage done. It also doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of how much ecological progress will be lost, as these areas contain some of the best remaining wildlife habitats left in the country. Habitat loss is THE single biggest cause of species endangerment and extinction, and the loss of the protection of these lands WILL lead to more habitat fragmentation and more species going extinct forever.
If you're not happy about this, now's the time to be making some serious ruckus. Contact your elected officials. Educate others and get the word out. Get in touch with conservation groups to see what organized efforts they have planned to meet this threat to our public lands. I have a lot more words about this whole situation--many of them containing four letters--but I'll keep things civil here.

Something I initially really liked about Cale's character is how he suddenly became the "trash" of the count's family and he seemingly takes it as an asshole permit.
No manners, rude? Well duh, He's the local trash.
And then, hundreds of chapters later it hit me:
This guy really never changed the way he acted, he says so himself and it's why Choi Han was able to easily recognize him in Choi Jung Soo's memories.
Which begs the question: What sort of internal narrative did he have going on as Kim Rok Soo to "justify" his behavior?
Baby Rok Soo was at the bottom of the social ladder, an orphan, poor and his uncle was an alcoholic and a gambling addict to boot
How many times do you think he heard things like "What can you expect from someone without parents?", or "Just what you would expect from someone who wasn't raised properly"
"Someone of your kind"
And then he became a Team Leader
How many things did he do or didn't do under the pretense of being "Cold-blooded"
It also doesn't help that he's unable to process praise or kindness directed at him.

Phaeophyscia hispidula
Whiskered shadow lichen
While lichens are not commonly consumed, there are a few areas where some lichen species are eaten. Nepal actually has a long history of lichen cuisine, and P. hispidula is to this day harvest for commercial sale and eaten. This foliose lichen has a lobes which are gray/gray-brown when dry and light green when wet--a characteristic commonly shared amongst members of its genus. The lower surface of the lobes is black, with prominent black, white-tipped rhizines which stick out along the lobe margins. The lobe margins and occasionally lobe surface are dotted with pustule-like soralia producing granular or isidioid soredia. P. hispidula rarely produces apothecia, which have rhizinate margins and dark brown or black discs. It grows on both bark and rock in boreal and montane habitats.

‘WHO VOTED FOR THIS?’ : TRUMP OBSTRUCTS CANCER RESEARCH FUNDING Trump has given orders to freeze ALL federally funded medical research in America. This includes research to treat: Cancer, Alzheimer's, Diabetes, Arthritis, Obesity, Drug Addiction, Depression, Childhood Leukemia, Heart Disease, etc. All of us know someone who is a afflicted with a medical condition that science is trying to cure, or at least lessen its severity. Who in their right mind would want to put a freeze on such important work? Notice Trump's priorities. He's not interested in lowering the cost of housing, or reducing middle and lower income Americans' taxes, or the price of groceries. Why? Because he's laser focused on more important stuff like: stopping life-saving medical research, worsening the climate crisis, reigniting inflation by mass deportations, increasing prescription drug prices, and of course, America's most urgent need of all — renaming the Gulf of Mexico. The man needs to have his head examined. Oh, ...darn. He just put a freeze on medical research into finding out what the hell is wrong with him!
