I just thought of this funny scenario: The rise boys (or just Mikey and Leo separately)have been pining after reader for YEARS, and one of readerâs guy friends (who knows about the turtles) gets more touchy and affectionate towards her. Cue jealous turtle that leads to them confessing. BUT when the boys are officially dating their crush, and prolly try to rub it in, the friend admits that he never liked reader that way, and just wanted to get the guys to confess (secret wingman lol)
Operation: Confess or Die
Hi guys! I hope everythingâs good with you! Sorry I havenât been very active lately, but Iâm on medication from the doctor and itâs causing a hormonal storm, so Iâm basically in a constant PMS mood đ
Rise!Leo x Reader
Summary: Leoâs been secretly in love with you for years, but itâs all been stolen glances and half-baked plans. When your best guy friend Eli suddenly starts getting⌠touchy? Affectionate? Flirty? Leo loses it. The twist? Eliâs doing it all on purpose.
The city was buzzing below, all soft golden streetlamps and distant car horns. The spring air was warm with that faint scent of subway steam and night jasmine from your fire escape planter. It wouldâve been perfect for a quiet night inâif Leonardo Hamato wasnât currently having an emotional crisis in your living room.
Leo sat stiffly on the armrest of your couch, arms crossed, trying to act like he wasnât calculating how many punches itâd take to knock Eliâs smirking teeth out of his face.
Three. Maybe four. But thatâd be rude.
âIâm just saying,â Eli said, leaning a little closer to you with that lazy smile of his, âyou shouldâve seen her trying to win that claw machine last week. Fourteen tries. Fourteen. I had to physically drag her away.â
You gasped, shoving him playfully. âThat thing was rigged!â
Leo watched as your shoulder pressed into Eliâs side. Your laughter rang out like a damn bell, and something sour twisted in his stomach.
You didnât even notice his glare. Why would you? You were too busy watching Eli like he hung the damn moon.
Leo tried to calm himself. Heâs just a friend. Heâs always been around. Nothingâs different.
Except now Eli was brushing hair behind your ear. And calling you nicknames like âsweetheartâ and âdoll.â
And the worst part?
You werenât stopping him.
Two hours later, Leo was back in the lair, face down on the floor of the dojo while Donnie ran diagnostics on a busted drone.
âIâm done,â Leo muttered into the mat. âIâm just gonna lay here forever. Maybe if I stay still long enough, time will rewind and I can delete all of tonight.â
Mikey flopped beside him, propping his chin on his hands. âYou still didnât tell her?â
Leo groaned. âI couldnât. She was with him again.â
Donnie didnât look up from his tablet. âThe statistically improbable friend whoâs suddenly acting like a human Labrador retriever?â
Raph crossed his arms from the doorway. âMaybe heâs got a thing for her.â
Leo flipped onto his back, face pale. âDo not say that.â
âThen do something!â Mikey chirped, poking his plastron.
âI had a plan,â Leo grumbled. âPhase One was charm. Phase Two was rooftop dinner. Phase Three included ambient jazz and maybe sparklersââ
âYeah?â Donnie interrupted. âWhat phase are we in now? Emotional self-destruction?â
Leo groaned again. This time louder.
The next time Leo visited you, it was worse.
It was so much worse.
He arrived just before sunset, perching outside your fire escape to wait for your usual âcome inâ knockâexcept he didnât knock. He froze instead, listening to the laughter spilling out from your living room.
You and Eli were on the couch, curled close over a shared phone screen, watching some dumb TikTok compilation. You were laughing so hard you had to clutch his arm for support. He didnât pull away. In fact, he put his hand over yours.
Leoâs hands clenched the railing. He swore his blood pressure hit critical.
He jumped down, stormed across the fire escape like a soldier entering enemy territory, and knocked. You answered with your usual warmth, your face lighting up like it always did when you saw himâand for a split second, Leoâs fury melted like ice.
But then Eli appeared behind you.
âLeo!â you said, smiling. âCome hang out with us!â
âYeah, câmon in,â Eli added with a casual wave. âWe were just watching fail videos. Youâd be surprised how funny goats can be.â
Leo stepped inside, every muscle tight. The apartment smelled like popcorn and vanilla candles, and the sounds of bleating goats and screaming skateboarders echoed from the TV.
He sat on the farthest edge of the couch, as physically distant from Eli as possible.
You didnât notice his glare. You were too busy rewinding a goat parkour clip.
But Leo noticed everything.
The way Eli kept âaccidentallyâ brushing your hand. The way he leaned toward you to whisper some joke. The way you leaned back without hesitation.
And thenâjust as the next video loadedâEli said it.
âYâknow,â he murmured, voice soft and just intimate enough, âI really love spending time with you lately.â
Leo blacked out for a second.
Then he stood up.
Fast.
âOkayâNOPE,â he snapped, pacing a tight line in front of your coffee table. âNope nope nope nopeâI canât do this anymore, Iâm gonna explode, Iâm literally malfunctioningââ
âLeo?â you said, blinking. âAre you okay?â
Eli just sat back with a suspiciously neutral expression.
Leo whirled to face you, shoulders tense, eyes blazing.
âI like you,â he blurted. âOkay? I like you. Likeâlike like. Not just friendly âIâll carry your groceriesâ like, or âIâll beat up a creep for youâ likeâreal, actual, romantic like. And I have for a long time.â
You stared at him, lips parting.
âI wanted to tell you ages ago, but then Eli was always around, and then he got weirdly touchy and then I panicked, and now Iâm confessing in front of a goat video and this is not how I pictured this goingââ
You stood slowly. Moved toward him.
âLeo.â
He stopped rambling.
You looked up at himâhis cheeks flushed, lips parted, eyes wide with panic.
And you smiled.
âAbout time,â you said softly.
His heart stopped.
You leaned up and kissed his cheek. âIâve liked you forever, dumbass.â
He blinked. âWaitâwhat?â
âI figured youâd tell me eventually,â you said, laughing. âBut watching you squirm was kind of fun.â
From the couch, Eli stretched, popped his knuckles, and casually said:
âWell, my job hereâs done.â
Leo snapped toward him. âExcuse me?â
Eli stood, brushing imaginary dust off his jeans. âIâve known for like⌠years that you were in love with her. Figured if I upped the affection, youâd grow a spine.â
Leoâs jaw dropped. âYouâyou were faking it?!â
Eli winked. âYouâre welcome, Blue Boy.â
Then he slung his hoodie over his shoulder and strolled toward the door.
You stifled a laugh behind your hand.
Leo turned back to you, flustered beyond belief.
âSo⌠does this mean I get to kiss you now?â
You grinned. âOnly if you swear youâre not gonna wait another three years to ask me out.â

"Stark Industries and and the Wakanda Outreach programme has helped thousands of mutants and inhumans, why don't we just hand her over to them and be done with it?" Kitty Pryde mulled over the idea, rolling her eyes as the clock ticked over into the third hour of bickering.
Y/N's sedation would wear off within the next half hour and the team were still yet to come to an unanimous decision on what to do with her. She was currently fast asleep on a comfy bed inside a room which restricted the use of her powers- but she didn't know that yet.
Bucky had tried his best to remain objective, but as he watched the large monitor streaming footage from her room, he couldn't help but be reminded of the girl he watched grow up into a woman and how he'd already missed four years of her life.
"I'll monster watch tonight, James." Y/N hummed, playing with a small flame at her fingertips. She looked over her shoulder and found him watching her with worried eyes, yet she just smiled, "You haven't slept for three nights in a row now. Trust me, they'd hurt you a lot more if you fail your mission tomorrow than they will if I'm a bit grouchy. Sleep, moya lyubov."
"She'd still be a great addition to the team," Tony sighed, standing up to stretch his legs, "and by team I mean the Avengers, I don't even know why you're here quite honestly."
Kitty flipped him off before storming out, probably going to find Charles or Raven to vent to them about how much Stark pissed her off.
Natasha leant over the table, eyes not moving from the tablet in front of her, "Is she like you were, Barnes?"
Bucky tensed and looked at the redhead, "In what way?" He asked slowly.
Nat glanced over at Tony before finding the super soldier waiting for her response, "Did they manipulate her mind and create triggers that'd turn her into a murder machine? Is she at all loyal to Hydra?"
"Come on, you saw her earlier, Nat, Y/N had tried to escape that many times they had to chain her up." Steve tried to reason as he saw Bucky's flesh hand clench up.
"We should consider every possible angle though, right?" Bruce spoke up from his seat towards the back of the room, propping his glasses on his nose and taking a better look at the security footage, "She seems harmless, but-"
"She is harmless." Bucky stressed, "Sure, when you look at her file you see a genetically engineered super-assassin with elemental powers, but not one day passed without trying to escape or planning our next escape. And okay, fine, she enjoys violence, but Hydra conditioned her to be that way and she's never had anyone to tell her otherwise. At the end of the day, she's scared- and I don't want her waking up alone."
The soldier felt Steve's hand squeezing his shoulder in comfort, but it felt cold and the sentiment felt short. Bucky watched each pair of eyes fall away from his sight and their voices stayed silent. He shook off Steve's hand and left the room, making his way down to the supervisory level. He looked down at the small piece of technology in his hand, matching the number to the cell like room and entering a six digit code into the keypad from memory. A single second later it pinged and the lights turned green.
The one armed man stood in the doorway for a moment, watching Y/N's healing figure peacefully sleeping. It was a sight to behold, even in tattered clothes and a thick layer of grime and dust covering her, she was anything but a weapon. She was soft and even delicate to the eye, resting as if her mind wasn't plagued with the tortured souls from her past.
Bucky sat down on the cool wooden floor, crossing his legs like he used to at the age of eight, playing tic tac toe with a small Steven Grant Rogers. Those memories didn't feel much like his own, more at peace with the ones of war he shared with Y/N.
"Stop pulling your punches, their hands are worse than yours." Nineteen year old Y/N warned James with a sharp whisper. His flesh knuckles were scorched from her most recent attack, goaded to use her powers by the watchful handlers. Metal collided with bone and he knew on impact two ribs had fractured, a further one would bloom with bruises soon enough. Training was often more taxing than the missions themselves, bored Hydra agents pulling on puppeteer strings to ensure they put on a good show.
Y/N estimated another ninety minutes had past before her handler pulled her away for healing observations, for research rather than well-being purposes. It wasn't long until she found herself flung back into the dingy cell with a kick to the back of her knees and an expired first aid kit thrown to the ground beside her.
Once the door cranked shut, James knelt beside the stoic woman he knew was hurting so deeply within. He collected any supplies for sterilisation and allowed Y/N to collapse under his touch. She curled into his chest as he cleaned the wounds he caused, burnt knuckles stung from the movements but that was numb compared to the torment of seeing her in pain.
James was past the point of blaming himself for any injuries Y/N incurred from training and vice versa, too much of their precious time had already been taken away in arguments of how much the other was not at fault. Hydra allowed them one hour a day together, usually after training, to decompress and recover and mostly hold each other. Y/N had a knack for sneaking out of her cell to be with the super soldier, it took more time stopping her, punishing her and hauling her back than their current routine. Teamwork on missions became more efficient, so they were allowed their hour of peace unless it became a weakness.
That was when Y/N was most aware of time passing by, fingers habitually running over the rigid scars between metal and soft flesh as a reminder James was entirely real. He watched between the fire dancing in her free hand and the peace within tired features, her own eyes burning bright at his constant touch. The hour would soon be up, and there was no fight to leave each other other than the lingering fingertips as they were pulled apart.
"You cut your hair-" Y/N's gravelly voice was cut off with a harsh array of coughs, spluttering dust from her cell's destruction stuck in her lungs. She squinted at the bright sterile lighting, everything in the room intensely white with the exception of Bucky and his all black clothing sat at the bottom of her vision.
He dialled the lights down noticing Y/N's discomfort and handed her an unopened bottle of mineral water. Her eyes carefully surveyed his movements, not considering him a threat as she chugged the liquid gratefully.
"Do you like it?" He asked after a few seconds of silence had filled the air, taking a seat at the side of the mattress apprehensively. Four years had passed and although he trusted the woman he thought was dead with his life, she was indeed alive and Hydra could do a lot of damage in much less time apart. He had so many questions, so many missed touches longed for and so little worry that she was no longer his Phoenix.
Even with grime covering her from head to toe, Bucky couldn't take his eyes away from her as she scrunched her nose playfully and answered, "I'll miss your long hair, but this suits you- you look like a person."
Unlike Bucky, whose memories were fuzzy around the edges, for better or worse Y/N held all of hers. She remembered cutting his hair short for a mission the once and wishing Hydra wouldnât let it grow out again. But seeing him this time was immaculate- he was his own human, and she looked to the dirt and disheveled clothing on her person and knew she wasnât. Purely what she was engineered to be and not a thing more, a biological weapon owned only by Hydra.
Bucky sensed the mental downward spiral as she scanned herself, brows knitting together and tears welling threatening to fall.
He corralled her away from those cataclysmic thoughts with a cool touch to her hot fingertips, metal thumb running across the back of her hand soothingly. âIt took a bit more than a hair cut, but the days I feel like a person outweigh the days I donât. And weâll get you there too.â
âCan I start that tomorrow?â Y/N pouted and lay against the plush pillows behind her head, content with the sounds of metal whirring against her skin that only super soldier hearing could pick up on.
The team, fewer members left in the conference room, watched the interaction from the projection. A few more words were shared before Bucky lay down beside Y/N, both infinitely still but continuing the motions on their joint hands. Steveâs chair rolled back a few inches as he eyed Tony, âListen, I can already see Bucky following if we send her off somewhere, weâve got to at least try re-humanising her.â
âGreat, we adopted another murder machine- when the first one gets lonely, at least now heâll have company!â Tony held his hands up in defence when Steve didnât appreciate his humour, âAlright, Cap. Weâll observe, give it a few days and get to work on project no murder and less machine.â

we'd let tori in if we were security guard. best way to go, anyway tori has
The anon didn't get to finish their thought at all, the tablet falling to the floor as they were stuffed halfway up robo-Toriel's rump! Rolling her hips forward, Toriel sighed and groaned as her inner motors sucked the anon up her synthetic bowels, trapping them inside smooshy, silky, lubricated walls that smelled vaguely like a new car. Humming to herself, she reached down and picked up the tablet, logging the anon out of their work account before reaching over to the punch machine and punching them out for the night. They've done such good work letting her in, they deserve a nice vacation!

The Computer Revolution: Shaping the Modern World
Computers have fundamentally transformed our lives, affecting nearly every aspect of society. From the way we communicate to how we work, learn, and entertain ourselves, the impact of computers is profound and far-reaching. This article explores the history of computers, their evolution, and their role in todayâs digital landscape.
The Birth of Computing
The origins of computing date back to the early 19th century with Charles Babbage, often referred to as the "father of the computer." He designed the Analytical Engine, a mechanical device that laid the groundwork for modern computing concepts, including the use of punched cards and memory storage.
However, it wasnât until the mid-20th century that computers began to take a more recognizable form. The development of the ENIAC in 1945 marked a significant milestone as it became the first general-purpose electronic computer. With its massive size and limited capabilities, ENIAC demonstrated the potential of electronic computation, paving the way for future innovations.
The Evolution of Computers
Mainframes and Minicomputers: The 1950s and 1960s saw the rise of mainframe computers, which were used primarily by large organizations for complex calculations and data processing. Companies like IBM dominated this market, providing powerful machines that required specialized knowledge to operate. Minicomputers emerged in the 1960s, offering smaller, more affordable options for businesses.
Personal Computers: The 1970s and 1980s marked the arrival of personal computers (PCs), which revolutionized access to computing power. The launch of the Altair 8800 in 1975 is often credited as the catalyst for the home computer revolution. Subsequently, Apple introduced the Apple II, and IBM released the IBM PC, making computers accessible to everyday consumers.
The Internet Age: The advent of the internet in the 1990s transformed computers from standalone machines to gateways for global connectivity. The World Wide Web opened up new avenues for communication, commerce, and information sharing. Computers became essential tools for businesses, educators, and individuals seeking to navigate this vast digital landscape.
Mobile Computing: The 2000s brought about the rise of laptops, smartphones, and tablets, shifting computing from static desktop environments to portable devices. This mobile revolution allowed users to stay connected and productive on the go, further integrating technology into everyday life.

"Support character"

{Idia Shroud x gn/MC}
Tags: hiding, cute, shy, curing wounds, soft touches, breathing onto the neck.
You have always been a passionate video game player, so you wanted to get to play with the weeb himself, Idia Shroud. You knew his reputation wasn't the best, among other nicknames, people called him otaku, freak, weirdo... But that didn't really mean anything to you, since you were pretty much the same. Despite being an introvert, you wouldn't define yourself as a shut-in kind of person. You enjoyed spending time with your friends and talking to people from time to time.Â
Nevertheless, you were having a hard time approaching Idia, he almost never leaves his room and it was difficult to locate his floating tablet. But one day destiny kicked in: you were walking to your next class with professor Crewel when you heard people arguing in one of the classrooms next to your locker. There was a group of bullies making fun of your well-known floating tablet.Â
They spitted out a lot of hurtful things like "you're gonna die alone because you're a weirdo", "if it wasn't for your brother nobody could go near you" or "what's so great about you when you can't even show your face?". You didn't know such pea-brains had the audacity to pick on him, heâs known for being a genius after all, but you couldn't stand it any more and entered the class bravely. Â
MC: hey! Stop bothering him and f*ck off!
They turned around infuriated and gave you a glare. Â
Bullies: mind your business, you're so little you wouldn't even protect yourself, loser.
Nonetheless, that wasnât going to move you from there. On one hand, you decided to protect Idia, maybe out of admiration, maybe because of another motive you couldnât figure out yet. On the other hand, even though you tried your best to look sharp and intimidating, you were actually very scared of those giantsâall Savanaclaw students have to be this buffed?Â
Noticing you werenât moving, the king bee started walking towards you at a slow pace trying to look menacing, which was pretty much working, honestly. Your shoulders began to shake. It would be a lie to say you stepped in with a plan to start with. As in games, you never had a plan for attacking the enemies, you just go with all your force âbut you havenât that strength in real life.  Â
MC: leave him aloneâŚÂ
That big guy was in front of you and ready to punch you in the face, but Idia's tablet got in the way. The machine screen bursted into pieces that flew all over the place and cut one of your cheeks. The bullies laughed loudly and made fun of Idia's intent to protect you, cutting your face in the process and breaking in pieces. But that didnât end there, the big one wasn't satisfied with the results, after all, he wanted to hit you.
Without thinking, you took the remains of the tablet in your hands and ran out of the classroom. All the bullies followed you along the corridor. When you turned to the left you felt someone grabbing your hands, making you enter one tiny room.Â
Your face bumped with a hard surface, so you placed your hands trying to figure out what it was. Your fingers detected what was a boyâs chest and you rapidly open your eyes and looked up to your savior. The room would be completely in the dark if it wasnât for Idiaâs blue fire hair which let you see his embarrassed expression. His eyes were wide open and his mouth strongly shut. You tried to let some air between the two of you but there wasnât really too much space to move, so you couldnât move away from him.Â
Idia: so- sorry to bring you to the storage roomâŚI- I had no other alternative in order to lose those NPCs.Â
He stumbled over his words, even though he tried looking up to avoid direct eye contact. From your perspective the view wasnât so bad, it was your first time meeting Idia and from that close. His skin was so pale you couldnât even find a mark on his body, whiter than the snow itself you would say. The darkness of the storage room added to the light of his hair, highlighting his bones and muscles as he breathed and moved his head to one side. He kept on trying to make space between you, without success. You felt sorry for him and tried to calm the atmosphere, maybe if he gets to know you better he wouldnât mind making eye contact with you âand even playing videogames together, you wish.Â
MC: NPCs? They were more like minor bosses from the in-between levels.Â
Idia let out a small laugh and then remained silent. That was definitely not the typical answer he gets when he talks that way. Nobody has ever followed his videogame slang. Most people would hush him or ignore his comments, since they donât know what heâs talking about to start with. This little word exchange warmed his shaking heart and gave him the courage to look a bit down to see your face.Â
MC: that sure scared me, I usually try to avoid trouble.Â
Idia: the- then why did you⌠suddenly charge in?
MC: well⌠they were shouting bad things at youâŚÂ
Idia: oh⌠really? I was on mute all the time.Â
You both stared at each other astonished. He wasnât having any problem after all, he couldnât even hear them. Suddenly, you felt really ashamed and your face started to show it by making you blush blatantly. Idia noticed your expression and was kinda amused by your reaction, enough to make him smile viciously while staring directly into your face. Then, among all the red your face could hold, he saw a tiny line of blood that went from your cheek down your neck.Â
Without realizing it he was rising up your chin to closely examine your little cut.Â
He took one handkerchief out of his hoodie and cleaned away the blood. He was being really careful not to hurt you, giving soft touches to wipe the blood. His other hand was gently placed on your shoulder. You didnât know this side of him and surely wasnât disappointed at all. His face was closer than before and you could feel his warm breath mix with yours.Â
Once he finished, he realized the situation he inadvertently created: face to face with you, one hand on your shoulder, the other caressing your cheek with a handkerchief, eyes to eyes⌠He jolted and glued his body against the wall the best he could. It was his time to get red, but ridiculously red, not only his face changed colors, his hair too.Â
MC: your hair turned red, are you all right?
Idia: do- donât look a-at it, ple-please!
His long and trembling hands covered up your vision. You could feel his cold touch and trembling fingers on your eyelids.Â
MC: what 's wrong?
Idia: you- you obviously think Iâm strange right?? my hair is on fi- fire and even changes co- colors, what a weirdo ri- right??
MC: well, Grimmâs ears are on fire too and your brotherâs hair is also on fire, whatâs so bad about it?
Idia: Wh- Whatâs so bad!? I want to live inadvertently and itâs impossible because everyone would lay their eyes on a head on fire, itâs frustrating.
MC: I think it looks very cool, actually.
Idia: I see, yo- you approached me because you think Iâm some fair attraction right?Â
MC: No! Thatâs not true!Â
Idia: but you approached me because Iâm weird right?!
MC: Thatâs no why I approached you!
Idia: then why did you approach me!?
MC: because I want to play videogames with you!
There it is, you finally said it. After all that yelling, it was easier to shout it out. Now, the room was dead silent. Idiaâs hand were still on your eyelids, but you couldnât feel his shaking anymore. He was calm and his touch felt warmer than before. You took his hands and slowly moved them down.Â
Frankly, he was surprised. Nobody, other than Ortho, has ever asked him to play videogames together. It was a first for him and he didnât know what to say or how to react. He was repeating your last sentence again and again on loop in his head.Â
He is a genius, that is true for him, heâs sure his mind and creations are brilliant enough to awe anyone. Nevertheless, he felt so dumb right nowâŚ

Come Break Me Down
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader
Summary/Request: If youâre comfortable writing this, could I request something soft with Bucky? Maybe youâve had a bad day and got yelled at by tony or something and Bucky cuddles you as you breakdown? đ - via anonymous
Warnings: Angst, protective!Bucky, soft!bucky, asshole Tony, comfort from Bucky in the best possible way, language from Tony and Bucky.
Words: 1072
Authors Notes: so, Iâm a little anxious about this because Iâm not sure I fulfilled the request like you had imagined anon, I am truly sorry if I ruined this. I hope you might still enjoy it though!
The beautiful sun was shining, illuminating soft glowing shadows around the compound. But judging by how your morning was currently going, it might as well have been a dark, cloudy stormy morning.
Your morning was fine up until you strolled into the kitchen, thatâs when everything seemed to go wrong. You accidentally broke the coffee machine, your heavy hands pulled on one of the levers too hard which rendered the coffee machine useless. Tony has just walked in, his eyes looking up from the glass tablet in his hands.
âWhat did you do?!â He asks, his tone not his usual Tony tone. This tone was irritated and you knew what was coming.
âIâm sorry Tony⌠Iâm so sorry⌠it was an accident and I accidentally broke the machine.â
âYou broke my coffee machine?! Do you have any idea how much these cost? No. I donât suppose you would! Itâs you that never buys anything!â
âI can repay you or replace the machine, it's noâ.â
âDonât tell me itâs âno problemâ Y/N! Just- just get out of my sight!â With a quivering lip, you left the kitchen. Looking behind you to see Tony rubbing his temples and not paying attention to where you were going. You ended up walking into a table, tipping it slightly to knock the expensive vase over, the thin glass immediately shattering from the impact of the floor. Oh no. Your heart may have stopped when you heard Tonyâs footsteps come up from behind you.
âY/N! JUST WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?! WERE YOU BORN THIS GODDAMN CLUMSY OR ARE YOU JUST STUPID?!â Tonyâs yelling caught the attention of agents and the team who were walking past in the hallway. With everyoneâs eyes on you at the same time, it was hard not to shrink under their stares. Your best friend Bucky steps up beside you and wraps a protective arm around your shoulder and pulls you into his chest.
âWould you fucking relax? It was an accident.â He tells Tony, you bury your face further into his chest, wanting nothing more than to disappear from this very room. In the span of minutes, it felt like you were being scolded by a parent. A parent who wouldnât listen to your explanation.
âAn accident really? I can believe Y/N breaking my coffee machine is an accident, but for them to just casually walk into the fucking table thatâs in front of their eyes to break my vase, very unlikely. Did I do something for you to break my stuff, huh?â Tony taunts, jabbing at your shoulder to which Bucky responds by pulling you away from Tony.
âAccidents happen Tony.â Steve intervenes, âlike that time Clint punched you? An accident. But you didnât scream at him.â
âClint didnât break my coffee machine or my vase.â
âFuck you and your coffee machine and vase. How much did the coffee machine cost?â Bucky growls, his heartbeat lulling you into a sense of security.
â$2000.â Tony replies with an exaggerated eye roll.
Bucky wheezes and mutters something along the lines of â2 grand for a fucking coffee machine?â âHere,â Bucky starts, pulling his wallet from his back pocket and counting the notes before throwing the wad of cash towards Tony. âTake the 2 grand and shove it up your ass. Come on doll, letâs get out of here.â Bucky says softly, pulling you with him.
Youâre not sure when the tears started to fall, but they wouldnât stop by the time Bucky walked you back towards your room. He made sure the door was shut before pulling you in for a tight hug, letting you cry and breakdown into his chest and not caring if you soaked his shirt. Making sure you were alright was his number one priority.
You stand there, it could have been minutes, or it could have been hours. His hands are rubbing your back, breathing in his scent makes you feel more calmer. You pull back, looking up at him through wet eyes and a snotty nose. Bucky chuckles before disappearing into your en-suite to grab some tissue, you reach your hand out to take it, but youâre surprised when he takes care of everything for you.
âAre you okay?â He asks, hooking his fingers under your chin and smiling down at you.
âIâm a disappointment to him, heâs going to kick me off the team and I-.â
âHe wouldnât dare, doll. Besides, he canât kick you off for breaking a coffee machine and a vase. Want to know a secret?â One side of his lips tugs up into a side grin. You nod your head with a small smile, âthe coffee sucked anyway. Nobody in the compound liked it so the jokeâs on him.â You laugh a little and shake your head. âTrust me doll, heâs not going to do anything. He has two super soldiers to fight first.â He winks, reaching for your hand and kissing the back of it. The feel of his lips against your skin felt like fireworks. It felt majestic and beautiful.
âThank you Bucky. I owe you for the machine.â You sigh rubbing your feverish head from all the crying.
âNo you donât. I wonât accept your money. If you want to thank me, agree to watch a movie with me.â You pretend to think it over, there was just something satisfying watching him stand there nervously.
âOkay, youâve got yourself a deal Mr. Barnes.â
âCome on doll.â Bucky says, walking over to your bed and pulling the duvet back, âchange into something comfortable and Iâll be right back.â He leaves your room and letâs you change, you close the curtains and turn on your mood lights wrapped around your metal framed headboard and slide under the duvet, wiggling your toes against the clean cotton.
Bucky returns with snacks, heâs also changed into a pair of loose boxers and a white shirt. He throws the snacks in the middle of the bed before joining you and sighing, propping the pillows up against the headboard. He pats his chest and you grin, quickly scooting closer to him to lay your head on him. Bucky reaches for the bag of Cheetos while you choose a movie on Netflix.
You were both supposed to have meetings to attend to today, but since your well-being was his priority, he talked to Steve and promised to fill you in on the details later.
Right now it was just you and him. Thatâs all Bucky really cared about.

MonX Hospital | Wonho

Pairing: Lee Hoseok x reader
Genre: paramedic â hospital au / co-workers to lovers
Warnings: naturally given the au of an EMT/paramedic there are more than one reference to accidents, a death and medical terms. Also there is a small fight, kind of a one-night stand but not and I wrote Y/N as on the shorter side, sorry if this offends taller readers.
Word count: 3525
Index: Shownu | Wonho | Minhyuk | Kihyun | Hyungwon | Jooheon | Changkyun
âHey short stuff!â Hoseok greeted fondly and you rolled your eyes, looking over your shoulder briefly before turning back to cabinets you were stocking.
âYou know, if you keep using that term, all the others are never going to stop teasing me for being the shortest here on the force.â
âThereâs nothing wrong with it! Great things come in small packages.â
Your gaze fell directly to his loins and smirked. âDo they just?â
âY/N!â Hoseok warned with a hearty chuckle, helping you with your final gear check in the back of the ambulance.
Truth be told, he liked that he got a rise out of you most days. Hoseok had been in the paramedic industry for four years now and out of all his co-workers he had been paired up with, you were definitely the most compatible. You made the long hours worth it, with the endless banter and the equally deep and thoughtful moments too. Working in such a high-stress, life or death environment was never easy to navigate but you had become a well-oiled machine together. Some of his greatest accomplishments had been at your side.
âReady to go?â you questioned and Hoseok nodded, climbing into the driverâs seat of the vehicle and moving out of the parking lot. Every day was different on the job. Sometimes he spent more time in the office than behind the wheel, not being on the active dispatch team. Today, however, you were on the road, waiting to be called towards jobs that needed their assistance.
You wound down the window and placed your arm on the doorframe. âItâs too nice of a day to be cooped up in here.â
âYou say that every day itâs sunny.â
âThe sun will be gone soon and replaced with a busy Friday night, I bet you.â
âHow much?â
âYouâre willing to give me your money so freely?â you teased and Hoseok shrugged. âTwenty bucks that we only deal with drunk people.â
âAlright, the same if we have at least one sober patient.â
It wasnât the most ideal thing to be waging on what type of work you would have for the night, but it kept it interesting.
And it made you delighted knowing he had to pay up at the end of the shift. âOooh, weâve been around so many intoxicated people tonight I think weâre starting to smell like a brewery!â
âYouâre not funny,â Hoseok replied as he pulled out his wallet and handed you the money. You grinned and waved it around, doing a little dance alongside it. âWhatâs fair is fair.â
âYou really do like giving your money away,â you stated, giving him a wink before going into the female changing rooms.
Hoseok waited for you to return out of uniform and jangled his keys. âWant a lift home?â
âYou just like driving me around, donât you?â
âIâm used to it, itâs not often youâre behind the wheel because-â
âFinish that sentence, I dare you,â you implored and Hoseok shrugged playfully, leaping away from your frustrated swipe in his direction. Chasing him out to his car, you just missed your chance to catch him when he slipped inside the driverâs side. Sighing and stalking around the vehicle, you slumped into your seat.
âBuckle up for safety!â he reminded as he turned the car on and you shot him an exasperated look. âHey, everyone of any height needs to keep safe in a moving vehicle.â
âOne day Iâm going to get you so good and youâre going to regret every quip youâve said to me.â
You managed to have him whining two days later before your shift, winning an arm wrestle against him twice. âItâs impossible!â
âWhy, because your muscles are huge and mine arenât? Itâs called having a good strategy, you should look it up.â
Ducking his head as the other teammates in the break room laughed at his second defeat, Hoseok dived on the dispatch radio that went off on the table. âLetâs go, Y/N. Iâll show you just how good I am at my job instead.â
After attending a three-car pile up, thankfully all with minor injuries and only transferring one patient to the hospital for follow-up treatment, Hoseok glanced at you instead of pulling out of the ambulance bay.
You gave him a quizzical look. âWhat?â
âYou did really well on that elderly womanâs treatment.â
âWhat are you talking about?â you muttered, picking up the tablet from its stand to log in more details of the event and close the report. âI just did my job, like you.â
âIt seemed as if you got that leg injury stabilised before I was finished dressing the second carâs passenger though.â
âDid I?â You stopped tapping on the deviceâs keyboard and thought for a moment. âI guess I was efficient.â
âYouâre a good partner to have in an emergency, Y/N.â
âWhatâs with all the praises, still upset about me winning earlier and trying to win me over now?â
âNo,â he replied genuinely, and then frowned, trying to search for a reason for his compliment. When he started speaking, he hadnât felt he needed one. But now, as he continued to look for an answer, he felt hot under his collar. Why were you affecting him today?
You looked at him and then smiled gently. âThank you. Iâve learned from the best.â
âMe?â
âChief Jung,â you corrected with a laugh and Hoseok groaned, leaping on another dispatched call and answering that they would take it.

The unease Hoseok was feeling towards you was fleeting and within a week it was back to the same constant bickering and comfortable nature you shared. The rapport you had together only strengthened after being faced with a fatal incident as well. It was never easy to be carrying someone in the back on a gurney headed for the mortuary, and the sombre silence in the cab only amplified this after driving back to the base. Hoseok gripped at the steering wheel at a set of lights, knowing somewhere tonight, a family would be grieving over the person they couldnât get to fast enough to save.
âItâs the worst feeling,â you murmured as he began to drive off. Hoseok glanced at you briefly, your eyes stuck on the road ahead. âEven if itâs part of the job and not my first time, I donât like it.â
âI donât think weâre meant to like it.â
âI know itâs selfish, but I never want to be on the other side of the situation. Iâve had to treat friends before and I know itâs my job to remain calm and collected in a stressful environment like that was. However, say it was you; I donât think I would be able to.â
Hoseok reached over to pat your hand lightly. âHey, donât go thinking like that.â
âIt could happen.â
âIt could,â he agreed softly, images procuring in his mind with coming up on a scene and finding you within it. He shuddered and blinked it away rapidly. âBut I know youâll do your best for me. And likewise, Iâd give my all to save you.â
âAh, weâre so emotional,â you stated shakily, clapping your hands together. âDoes everyone crack like this after losing someone?â
âI donât know, but youâre not alone in this tonight.â
You grew silent again until you climbed out of the cab and grabbed your things. Turning to look at Hoseok, you smiled sadly. âWant to go get a drink?â
âI was going to suggest the same thing.â
Once showered, changed and now seated in a bar with a drink in hand, you seemed a bit more alert. Hoseok smiled as he pushed the bowl of hot chips he had purchased towards you. You eyed the move cautiously. âWhat?â
âYou need more colour in your cheeks.â
âIâm not feeling faint,â you replied sternly, though took a chip and blew on it lightly before chewing it.
âI know, but eating is a vital step in recovery for us.â
âIâd rather drink.â
âIt wonât go away with the alcohol,â he reminded and you nodded distractedly. He could tell you were definitely more subdued than usual tonight. Looking around the bar, he pointed across the room. âWant to play a round of pool?â
âYou only suggested that since I suck at it.â
âThereâs always room for improvement,â he offered and you picked up the bowl of chips and your drink, standing up and gesturing to a free pool table.
It wasnât until your second game where you had loosened up enough, laughing loudly at sinking the wrong ball than the one you were originally aiming for.
âAt least you got one in!â
âIâm so ridiculously useless at this game!â you replied with another laugh, picking up your drink and taking a gulp.
Hoseok sunk the final three balls and you clapped at his triumph. He picked up his jacket and nudged you playfully. âLetâs call it a night, huh?â
âGood idea before you get drunk and start singing out of tune like you did last time,â you quipped and Hoseok reached out for you as you scooted out of his way. Accidentally, he knocked the man at the neighbouring table in the process.
And then, you turned around and let out a string of explicit words. Hoseok was conflicted. On one hand, his heart was thumping erratically at your instant defence for him, but with the way they acted towards him, he wasnât exactly able to put in his best bid to protect you with the shock still keeping him to his spot.
âSorry mate, I didnât-â
A sickening punch came right for him in response and Hoseok was disorientated. He wasnât expecting it at all and wobbled as he regained his balance. You came into his view immediately, examining his cheek.
He was in a daze, wondering if it was all a dream as he watched you twist the manâs arm who had just punched him now behind his back and made him drop to his knees. Details seemed to remain hazy even when you were helping him into the back of a cab and giving over your address. It wasnât until you made him sit down on the edge of your couch inside your home and placed a bag of ice over his cheek that he seemed to snap out of his reverie.
âDid you just do all that?â he wondered out loud and you grinned at him.
âWhat, save your ass from doing something stupid?â
âI think you were a little too reckless compared, donât you?â
âThere was no need to punch you, and he had to apologise for it.â
Hoseok mirrored your grin as you rearranged the bag you were holding against his cheek. And then it faded, sliding forward to kiss your lips.
It had to be the alcohol, he concluded as he passionately continued to kiss you. There would be no other explanation for the hunger that you were showering him in otherwise. You had never expressed a desire for him like this. Although he had confused moments, you were impartial to dating and even frowned upon it in the workplace. So the events of the night and the alcohol consumed could be the only explanation for this.
Not that he needed one right now. He was all too immersed in running his hands along your curves, gasping when you hastily undid the buttons of his shirt. He enjoyed your instant appreciation of his exposed torso, the licking of your bottom lip urging him forward to capture them again, to continue making you his.
And then the fever cast over you caused you to press into his injury, a sudden hiss leaving him and ruining the mood. He panicked. âNo, Iâm fine!â
âMore than fine,â you breathed, tenderly running your hand over his chest. âBut youâre injured, letâs stop here.â
âReally?â he asked with disappointment as you puckered up your swollen lips and nodded sadly. You patted him on the chest before getting up, although Hoseok reached for your hand to halt your departure. âWhere are you going?â
âTo get you some blankets to sleep with, unless you want to uh⌠share my bed?â
He nodded then, following you down the hallway to your room.
The alcohol couldnât hide either of your awkwardness now that the heated moment was left back in the living room. You looked at the space and then cringed. âWe canât, you know.â
âI know. Letâs just sleep,â he assured and you nodded, climbing into the bed first before Hoseok followed you in. Tense for a moment, you then rolled towards him, Hoseok slipping his arm after your neck.
Exhaustion washed over you both, pulling you into your dreams before you could question it any further.

When he woke in the morning, you were already up and making breakfast. Hoseok leaned against the doorframe and watched you move around the small kitchen, smiling to himself. He realised he could get used to this type of relationship with you. Those flustered moments and the unease he had felt thus far made more sense now that he had kissed you.
He was certain you could become better partners to each other on and off the clock.
His growing romantic notions were clipped short by your response over breakfast, however.
You smiled at him politely as you spread jam on your toast. âYour face looks a mess.â
âYou did a good job of making me feel better.â
âIt was a slip-up, it wonât happen again. Alcohol does strange things to people,â you replied and Hoseokâs expression faltered. You continued to eat your breakfast as if the heated embrace you had experienced wasnât that special. Were you really that unaffected by it? Hoseok was sure you had felt what he had too.
Maybe you were only acting on impulse from the alcohol after all.
So he swallowed back the remnants of his feelings and chuckled. âRight, we had too much to drink.â
âDonât go getting punched in any more bars,â you added on with a smirk.
And that was that. He had been lucid when it all happened, and he knew you werenât even tipsy. Yet you both chalked it up as a drunken experience, working together as if you hadnât had your hands all over his torso as his tongue wasnât battling with yours all those weeks ago.
He had to admit, he was rather relieved when his planned time off rolled around. For two weeks, he wouldnât have to endure through the unexpected moments where heâd catch himself thinking back to that night. Little things, such as you tying your hair back, were enough to give him a secondsâ flash of memory from that night.
Yet, you were unaffected, impartial even.
Or so he thought.
It was ironic how life worked in mysterious ways and if this was how he was going to get your attention, he wasnât so sure heâd be willing to go through with it more than once. The impact of the other car hitting his was deafening, the screech of the wheels across the asphalt causing Hoseok to clamp his eyes shut momentarily.
He had attended far too many accidents but this was his first being involved in one.
When the noise all came to a halt, he opened his eyes again, assessing himself for injury. He had a few cuts on his arm from the glass shards on impact but nothing was substantially painful. Opening the door to his side of the car that thankfully hadnât been the one to receive the impact, he went over to the driver in the other car, checking them for injuries as he called for emergency services.
Hoseok didnât even notice it was you called onto the scene at first, too busy applying pressure to the thigh injury sustained on the other driver. However, he knew it was you who called his name out desperately, ignoring the other paramedic who was calling for you to calm down.
You dropped to your knees beside him, shaking visibly as you reached out for his face, looking him over as tears fell from your eyes. Hoseok smiled softly. âIâm okay, Y/N. We need to help Mr Laing here. Heâs got three deep lacerations to his thigh and a suspected concussion.â
You merely stared back at him, still holding onto his face. âI told you not to do this to me.â
âY/N,â he called, shaking you firmly. âSnap out of it, you need to help this man first.â
âIâll do it,â Curtis announced and pushed you aside, stepping in to stabilise the patient. You seemed to snap out of your initial shock and assisted Curtis with getting the patient into the back of the ambulance. And then you came back to where Hoseok was now standing and took his arm with a tremble. âCome on, youâre getting checked out too.â
âIâm fine,â he told you but you ignored the response, guiding him into the extra seat in the ambulance. You seemed to have regained enough control over yourself to administer the correct care to the patient on the short trip to the hospital, and once you had handed him over to the awaiting medical team at the Emergency Department, you turned back to Hoseok, your knees starting to give way.
Lurching forward, he grabbed you before you fell. âY/N, are you okay?â
âNo, Iâm in shock,â you told him simply, staring up at him intently. âHow dare you get hurt and be there when I arrive on the scene.â
âI didnât quite expect the guy to hit me in the intersection when he did.â
You shook your head and thumped him on the chest. âWhat are you doing getting involved in accidents anyway?!â
Hoseok shot Curtis a helpless expression, who gestured for you to stay with him as he closed the back door to the ambulance. Sighing, Hoseok walked slowly inside to the bed a nurse called him to and sat you down beside him. You didnât let go of his injured arm, staring at the cuts over his forearm forlornly.
âY/N,â he murmured and you hummed in response, tearing up. âWhy are you being like this?â
âAm I meant to be fine about you getting injured?!â
âNo, itâs justâŚâ He paused to take in a breath. âIâm okay, itâs just a bit of soreness settling in from the impact and some cuts. Iâm not dying yet youâre acting like Iâm critical right now.â
âYou mean too much to me to end up here like this,â you confessed shakily, blinking as a tear slid down your cheek. âYouâre meant to help those who get hurt, not be the one hurt.â
âI know. You really are in shock, huh?â
âI like you too much for you to be hurt,â you continued and Hoseok nodded and then stopped, widening his gaze upon your face.
âWait, like me too much?â
âOf course, I do!â
âAs your partner?â
âAs a man,â you corrected, wincing a little when you brushed your fingers too close to one of his wounds. âI know you didnât think much of that night but I did.â
âWoah, hang on a minute!â Blinking rapidly, Hoseok then grabbed your chin with his uninjured arm to pull your focus up to his eyes. âYou were the one who brushed it off for being intoxicated.â
âI didnât want to put you in a bind by my feelings,â you mumbled and Hoseok laughed. You gaped at him. âWhy are you laughing?!â
âBecause weâre idiots! Iâve liked you a whole lot too, I just thought it was one-sided.â
âDefinitely not.â
âSo it really scared you to find me there, then.â
âIf you ever get injured without me being there again,â you started, heaving in a deep breath as you shook your head with contempt. âActually, you better not ever get hurt in front of me again.â
âYouâre really protective, you know? You saved me in the bar and now youâre asserting yourself again for my safety. Itâs really adorable.â
âI would hardly call this situation adorable, Hoseok.â
He grinned despite your lamenting statement, leaning over to peck your lips. You froze and Hoseok kissed you again before pulling you in closer to his side. He sucked in a breath when it hurt a little to do and you snapped out of it enough to look at him with worry.
âAre you okay?â
âOf course I am, I have paramedic Y/N at my side to help me.â
âWhat am I going to do with you?â
âI might need extra treatment after weâre done here getting this sorted out,â he admitted and you tilted your head to the side in confusion. Hoseok smirked. âWith how much you like me, I might end up becoming lovesick.â
âGod, youâre hopeless,â you told him despite a smile tugging at your lips. Nestling into his side, you buried your head into his neck and pressed your lips into him.
âMaybe youâll need treatment too. But thatâs okay, weâre medically trained professionals. Iâll save you and you can save me, deal?â
Looking up at him with another smile, you let out a breathy laugh. âDeal.â

oh god i just saw the angsty shippy prompts you just reblogged and now i have to brace myself for angst for DAYS ă
ă
and because your writing always makes me feel All The Emotions i just know i'm going to feel like i've been punched in the solar plexus each time i see (and read, and re-read) an update and its reblogs... anyway i feel like this would be a fun one "i can't always help when you're in trouble" whichever ship you choose! ^^
He wakes to a dull, rhythmic throbbing in his head. Thereâs an itch on his nose that is growing more and more irritating by the second, but his body feels like itâs being crushed by a dead weight and his arm wonât move. The most he achieves is a tiny twitch of his right hand; it brushes up against something warm, and then he hears a sharp intake of breath close to his ear.
âWei-xiansheng,â a familiar voice says. âWei-xiangsheng, are you awake?â
He groans.
âMy nose itches,â he croaks. His lips are dry and his mouth feels like sandpaper. âAnd my throat hurts.â
âThat would be the anaesthetic wearing off,â another voice says. âIf youâre not feeling nauseous, we can probably get you something to wet your mouth.â
âThanksâ is what he tries to say, but it comes out more like a garbled âauuaaghâ. Nevertheless, a cool, wet cloth is pressed to his lips and he sighs gratefully at the soothing sensation. He opens his eyes slowly once itâs taken away, wincing at the way his eyes seem to have been caked shut; the first thing he sees is a very handsome, albeit very concerned pair of pretty honey-coloured eyes watching him.
âHey,â he rasps. âHey, gorgeous.â
A tiny frown appears in between those perfectly shaped brows.
âWei-xiansheng,â Gorgeous says. He frowns.
âDonât call me that,â he complains. âYou should call me by my name.â
Gorgeous sighs. Put-Upon is a very nice expression on him.
âWei-xiansheng,â he says again. âHow are you feeling?â
âMm,â he says coherently. âBetter now that youâre here.â A deeper frown, and a pressure around his hand. âOoh, youâre holding my hand. Thatâs nice. I like that.â He pouts when the hand is quickly retracted, but is rewarded by the adorable sight of reddened ears instead, so he lets it pass. âFine. Iâm uhâdizzy, kind of. Thirsty. Ohâuh, my shoulder hurts?â
âThat would make sense,â the other voice says from somewhere on his other side. âConsidering thatâs where you were shot.â
A woman with a stethoscope around her neck is poking at the tablet in her hand as she studies his chart. She gives him a Look over the top of her glasses as she details the extent of his injuries.
âYou were very lucky this time, Wei Wuxian,â she says sternly. âA couple of millimetres off and it would have nicked a major artery. Iâm a world-class surgeon, but I canât work miraclesânot if you insist on putting yourself in unnecessary danger all the time.â
âIn my defence, Qing-jie, it was completely necessary this time,â he says cheerfully.
Wen Qing raises the tablet over her head as if to smack him over the head with it. Wei Wuxian pouts and gives her his best puppy dog eyes, but Wen Qing does not buy it. She usually doesnât, but her features soften anyway and she pats him on his uninjured shoulder before she leaves.Â
âDonât let him get out of bed,â she instructs his companion. âGot it, Lan Wangji?â
Lan Wangji nods. âThank you, Wen-daifu.â
And then itâs just the two of them, in this too-sterile hospital room, staring at each other. The little crease is still there between Lan Wangjiâs brow, and Wei Wuxianâs nose is still itchy, but it feels a little too awkward to be taking care of that particular problem now. He clears his throat and looks away with a wry grin.
âHey,â he says again. âThanks for today, Lan Zhan. Really. Donât know where Iâd be without you.â
Lan Wangji says nothing, but the hand resting on the sheets beside his curls into a fist. His face is impassive as always, but there is a twitch in the muscles of his sharp jaw that gives away the extent of his displeasure. Wei Wuxian shifts around, adjusting his position in bed and winces at the discomfort in his shoulder still dulled by the effects of the anaesthetic. Being the subject of Lan Wangjiâs disapproval has never been a pleasant experience, but it feels different this time.
He stretches his index finger and taps the knuckles of the fist resting beside him.
âHey,â he says softly. âDonât be upset, Lan Zhan. Iâm fine. Look!â
Lan Wangjiâs frown deepens and the corners of his mouth turn down imperceptibly as he drops his gaze to the bed.
âYou should not have done it,â he says stiffly. Unhappily. âYou were the target, you should have stayed behind meââ
âAiya, Lan Zhan,â Wei Wuxian says with a click of his tongue. âI couldnât stand back and do nothing, could I? You could have been shot!â
âAnd now youâve been shot!â The force behind his words startle Wei Wuxian into silence. âWei-xiansheng. I am your bodyguard. My job is to protect you. Not the other way around.â
Wei Wuxian gnaws on the inside of his cheek and looks up at the ceiling. The tiles are plain and white, as sterile as the rest of the room. It makes his skin crawl.
âI didnât want you to get hurt,â he says finally. âNot for me.â
âThat is my job,â Lan Wangji reminds him. He sighs, frustrated. âWei-xiansheng, weâve been over this. Your personal safety should be at the forefront of your concerns.â
âYour brother tells me to leave the worrying to you,â Wei Wuxian says with a wry grin. âThat as long as youâre here, Iâll be in safe hands. Or is that not true?â
It is clearly the wrong thing to say, because Lan Wangjiâs knuckles turn white and the sheets crumple and twist beneath his fingers. Heâs shaking so hard the bed begins to trembling, just slightly, but enough for Wei Wuxian to feel it rattle. He opens his mouth, ready to placate him, but Lan Wangji is faster.
âWe cannot protect you if you do not protect yourself first,â he bites out through gritted teeth. âYou keepâthrowing yourself into dangerous situations without thinking. It was pure luck that you werenât hurt, or killed any of those times beforeââ
âWell, not just luck. Youâre just really good at your job,â Wei Wuxian interjects. He shrinks under Lan Wangjiâs glare, chastened. âSorry, please continue.â
Lan Wangji exhales and relaxes his grip on the bedsheets.
âIâm doing the best I can to protect you,â he says in a small, defeated tone that weighs heavily on Wei Wuxianâs chest. âBut I canât always be there. I-I canât always help you when youâre in trouble, Wei Ying.â
Oh. Realisation hits him like a tonne of bricks and he lays there, craning his neck against the terrible pillows, looking at Lan Wangji. His shoulders are slumped, his head bowed; there are dark circles under his eyes and the faint hint of stubble along his jaw, a far cry from his usual crisp, professional demeanour. Wei Wuxian grimaces as a wave of nausea hits him, although heâs not sure if itâs due to the anaesthetic or the guilt churning in his stomach.
Lan Wangji is there immediately, the hurt on his face replaced by concern.Â
âIs the wound hurting?â he asks. âI will call Wen-daifuââ
âNo, no donât,â Wei Wuxian says quickly, grabbing onto his hand before he can leave. He feels Lan Wangjiâs hand jerk beneath his as if to pull away, and is grateful when he doesnât. âIâm sorry.â
He chances a look at Lan Wangji and finds his honey-coloured eyes wide and his mouth soft and open with surprise as he stares down at him. It lasts only a second before it disappears behind a mask again, but itâs enough to send his heart tripping over itself and blood rushing to his cheeks. He looks away, chewing on his bottom lip.
âI didnât mean to worry you,â he continues, staring determinedly at the railing on the other side of the bed. âI justâŚI didnât even realise I was moving until I was, you know? I saw the gun pointed at you and my body justâŚreacted.â
He laughs, blinking back sudden wetness in his eyes.
âI just didnât want to see you hurt,â he finishes quietly.
He doesnât dare look at Lan Wangji to gauge his reaction, but he hears the sharp intake of breath and feels the hand in his shift. It turns over and returns his grip, engulfing his hand in a warm, gentle grip.
âWei Ying,â Lan Wangji breathes. âWei Ying, look at me?â
His eyes are warm and gentle, tinged with sadness. He lifts Wei Wuxianâs hand and clasps it in both of his, bringing it to his cheek and brushing his lips over the knuckles. The brief contact sends tingles rushing down Wei Wuxianâs arms and his heart does an involuntary little flip. And then Lan Wangji smiles, no more than a tiny little quirk at the corner of his lips, but it is enough to send his heart rate skyrocketingâwhich is embarrassingly reflected in the sudden spike on the ECG machine still beeping away merrily by his bed.
âWei Ying,â Lan Wangji says softly, the words ghosting over his fingers. âI donât want to see you hurt either.â
The matter-of-factness in his tone fills Wei Wuxian with a warm, fuzzy feeling heâs quite sure does not relate to the anaesthetic. He offers him a sheepish little smile and strokes his thumb over the back of Lan Wangjiâs hand.
âIâm sorry,â he says in a small voice. âI wonât do it again.â
Lan Wangji huffs.
âYes you will,â he says with a hint of fondness in his voice. âBut thank you.â

my heart weeps for you. (a)
pairing: izuku midoriya x reader
genre: angst
warning: graphic descriptions of injuries, character death
words: 3.1k
summary: please find me in my next life so I can properly tell you that I love you!
a/n: this is a long emotional one, please enjoy it :)
Midoriya used to think that he'd only ever felt genuine sorrow in his life the day his mentor, father, and a love of his passed away.
"I'm so proud of you, Young Midoriya...I suppose you aren't so young anymore, are you?" his hand rested atop his poofy hair, Toshinori could almost see him when he was much younger. When his embraces still had the familiar teenage gentleness behind them, he'd grown up so much, "I am proud of you. To know that you are my successor is the greatest gift you could have ever given me."Â
Midoriya had watched Toshinori take his final breaths after he proudly exhaled those three long-lasting words. He didn't cry then. Only when he was lost in the coldness of his bedsheets did his heart weep from anguish as though he had lost a part of himself. He hated the sky and the way it shone so brightly because he would never get to see All Might look up at it once more before smiling.Â
The world looked at the number one hero as a symbol of peace and that he was! He saved the day as Deku with a small pin of his former mentor near his breast, a constant reminder that he was always with him. Grief lasted what felt like forever, but every day things grew just a bit easier. Only, his biggest regret was that Toshinori Yagi had never gotten to meet you. He would have loved you. It seemed that people who had changed Izuku's life could never coexist. It was if life was trying to tell him something.Â
In the end, it's just you.
The next time he felt genuine sorrow was on a day bright like the one before. Though the pain wasn't because of how alone he felt or how much he missed those who had passed...No, he felt the wave of sorrow overtake him the moment you'd died in his arms. Unlike last time, he wept. His heart cried out for you even when he chose not to think about it. It wept his entire life, for he was never able to find the same type of love ever again.
"Deku! It's me, Signal, I'm sorry I'm late! The train was packed! This lady asked for help retrieving her cat, and I just couldn't say no in my hero get-up! But I am truly honored to be your sidekick. I will do my best for our newfound team!"
You were young and bright and so colorful. Your hero outfit was a pure white and gave you this sense of innocence, but the red rings gave you a bold and courageous aura. You looked more like an angel rather than a hero. He didn't prefer the traditional cliches when it came to romance, but he couldn't help but feel shocked when suddenly things seemed brighter around him. You made things seem brighter.
"Huh?! It's no trouble at all! Really, don't worry about it! That was great for you to do, you're gonna have everyone's vote in the popularity poll if you keep it up. Ready for patrol?"
You reached into your bag and grabbed a clunky helmet with a black shaded screen, it covered your face. Midoriya felt a frown tug his lips before scolding himself. Why are you frowning at her costume? You haven't known her well enough to be upset by how she looks! Later, he would grin in happy remembrance when he had gone to visit your grave. He hadn't frowned because he thought you were ugly, he'd frowned because he thought you were beautiful.
You talked a lot, mostly about the latest things in pop-culture and anything to do with animals. You seemed to be really into music and saving stray dogs. You also tended to ramble about the mundane things in life like blue-spotted pigeons or plump old ladies offering homemade churros. You also ate with your helmet on, and it made you look pretty silly. He couldn't stop himself from grinning every time you turned your whole body to talk to him. You never knew what he was smiling at.Â
"Okay, watch this!" he watched you intently while sitting on the park bench, he didn't want to ask what exactly he was supposed to be seeing and had no idea if there was supposed to be anything at all.
"Um-haha! I don't see anything--"
Neon pink. A blushing emoticon with small letters appearing under it.Â
 "Signal loves Deku!"
It was like he could hear Mina's words saying that when he blushed, he looked like a firetruck. He was sure he looked like a million firetrucks right then.
"It's true! I'm a big fan and I've always dreamed of being near you! It's like a confession towards your senpai! Have you ever seen those types of anime? It's usually done better in the manga, but I like the romantic connotations either way. Pretty cool, right? During a stressful mission, I thought it might be better to display messages so people would know it's okay while I'm still kicking ass! Also-"Â
He laughed so sweetly that it felt like drinking honey and milk. He'd never heard of displaying messages like that, it was different! But it was a good type of different, a uniqueness that made you stand out. It was weird how he had only briefly met you once under the cherry blossom trees when it felt like he'd known you forever. He had only first seen you in your third-year school sports festival at his Alma Mater, but it felt like he'd been with you before. Your energy felt so familiar, and you felt so warm. He chalked it up to your infectious bubbly personality, but he had no idea how deep your energy truly ran.
His sidekick Signal gave him a rush he had never felt before. You were sweet, but your quirk was terrific and incredibly powerful, you could sense civilians and give out concentrated waves of vibrations to either alert heroes or ward off villains. The two of you worked like a well-oiled machine because when he punched? You rescued. When you signaled? He arrived. When you both started? You both finished.Â
"Hey, Deku? Did you know that I love spicy pork ramen?"
"Is this your way of telling me we should get ramen?"
 "...No."
"Let's go then! I'll pay since I  am  the older one, of course," he grinned back at you, "let's get going short-stuff!"
"I'm average!! We've been over this before you bozo!"
It wasn't a date, it was just dinner after work. No biggie. Midoriya didn't need to fix his hair when he walked past the department stores' glass, and he didn't need to nervously look away from your eyes when you spoke with such intensity.Â
"Am I too young for you?"
His beer sputtered out from his lips like a faucet; quickly, he began to mumble apologies as the brown liquid was wiped away from the table and his chin, "young?! What do you mean too young?!"
"It's just as I said! I'm only nineteen and you' re-gosh-like twenty-five? No, twenty-six! Am I too young for you?"
"Hey!! I'm only twenty-three! I'm not some old geezer or a pervert or something!! ... You're just fine but...dating looks problematic, so we should just avoid it. Especially for your future career because of power dynamics and stuff."
"Dating? I was talking about being a sidekick."
"W-What?!"
You tossed your head back and barked out a laugh as you blatantly made fun of him, "I'm just messing with you! I meant what I said. If it's so problematic, then please wait for me!"
It had only been six months since he'd met you under a bright blue sky with one wispy cloud floating in it. It had been only a year since he first saw you on his tablet with the most radiant smile on your face even though you'd lost to your opponent.
It had only been six months since he had properly gotten to know you, and it was at this moment he could confidently tell himself that he loved you. Even with that clunky helmet.
"Okay, I'll wait for you. But you better not make me wait too long! Who knows what'll happen?"
He wished he wouldn't have jinxed it.
Red was a fantastic color on you and you knew it. It was merely coincidental that it matched his tie and the two of you looked like a couple. The whispers and comments weren't malicious, they were just curious. Who was Deku toting on his arm? Why did they look so compatible? At first, your curious eyes wandered all over the Pro-Hero Praise Party. (It has an official name, but after hearing your joyful excitement of being able to attend a "Praise Party," it just stuck.). You took it all in before glancing back at him with an open mouth of awe.
"So, are the snacks any good?"
Of course you were amazed. After shrugging in response to your question, Midoriya watched you quickly run off to chat with some of the girls, Uravity and Froppy. You were weird if he was going to be honest, you had this childlike excitement that followed you wherever you went but at the same time...you had a presence. It was commanding, demanding, and it called everyone to pay attention to you. You shone so brightly that it stuck to people's hearts like superglue; walking away almost made his vision go blurry because oh my god, please don't let that force be taken away from me. Â
You always came running back though. When things began to get a bit more intense with flirtatious comments or lots of alcohol, you were always there to seek comfort. With your exuberant nature came his calming one. You two fit together like two peas in a pod.
"Izuku? I have to tell you something."
"Yeah?"
"I...I had a good time! Thank you for bringing me as your plus one to the party!"
He raised a brow in confusion as the two of you stood outside your apartment complex.
"Oh! I had a good time too! We should go to more, it's fun with you," was that coming on a bit too strong? Is that  creepy ?! "I--"
Soft lips on his cheek, you had to go up a step because he was just that much taller than you. The gloss made it a bit sticky but you pulled away with a heart-shaped smile.
 "Pervert! You're blushing!"
"You're the weird one! Didn't your parents ever teach you not to fool around with older people??"
"Psh, don't pull the 'I'm your senior' schtick!! I heard enough about it from Mr. Ground Zero!..."
He smiled and stepped down, letting a hand squeeze your shoulder. He didn't want to make you uncomfortable with too much affection.
"Well...Big day tomorrow, I'm going to jump right into bed!"
"Got it! Me too! See you later, and thank you. F-For the kiss."
You grinned, your teeth nearly blinding him as you squeezed his hand before turning to go into the complex.Â
"Also, that hand move was a little weird. Just hug me next time! There!" You stuck your tongue out and hummed, "romantic advice from someone younger than you! Suck it!"
That night, he lay in bed, wishing you were there with him. You two could lie together or watch movies or do anything, really. He just wanted to be close to you. He liked being close to you.Â
You lie curled up on your side, eyes wide as the heat from your previous action coursed through your veins. Hands lightly rubbed the frilly fabric of the pillow before you squeezed your eyelids shut. Oh, how much you wished the warmth was his and not the space heater near your bed.
SEND DISPATCH OUT! DEKU AND SIGNAL ARE UNRESPONSIVE! NO WORD FROM INSIDE THE BUILDING, WE NEED SOMEONE TO LIFT THE PILLARS!Â
Dust and crumbled roof fell onto Midoriya's face as he coughed and took in a deep inhale, the fall must've been bad considering the next cough brought up blood. Broken ribs? For sure, he'd broken enough bones to know that the affected area had been his ribs. He was just lucky enough that his hero costume provided enough support to keep him from having anything  too  serious. Well, he supposed broken bones were still pretty serious...his mind's wandering. Focus on the task at hand.
"Signal? Are you there?" Silence. He wheezed and moved away from the dust waterfall. It was a small area and...he could see the white of your costume easily! Hey! "Y/N! Oh, why didn't you say anythingâŚ"
The words died in his throat. Red had pooled around you and a pillar lie where your midsection would be. Your helmet had cracked, and the screen was glitching between various emoticon faces. You lie still and stiff with your hair in your face.Â
 "Izuku?..."
"Don't speak! Don't do anything! I'm gonna get this pillar off of you, and then I'm going to get you some help. Can you say okay?"
 "Kay...It doesn't hurt too badâŚ"
He didn't respond as he leaped over the pillar to see the damage that had been done and how easily he could lift the object. He felt like vomiting when his feet landed on the bone in your ankle. It should've hurt badly with his steel-toed shoes and all, but you made no noise. He glanced back in concern before crouching down and examining your leg.
"You're taking so long, I'm tiredâŚ"
"...Can you...can you move your leg?"
"What do you mean? They were crushed, can't feel 'em at all."
If he pulled on your leg, the muscle and tendons would be exposed like red string and yarn. The blood would pool out of your thigh and further stain the concrete. The pillar that came crashing down had caught you on the way down, severing your spine when it hit the ground. If he lifted this pillar, your guts would spill out, and you would bleed out, and you'd be  dead  and holy fuck there's so much blood--
You sniffled, you had figured it out too.
"I can't feel them, Izuku, please, where are my legs?!"
"They're...WellâŚ"
"It's fucking, oh my god, they're not there. Izuku, am I going to die!? I can get surgery, right? I'll be fine!" You breathed heavily and began to squirm around, "I can still be a hero! I-I'm still a sidekick! It's fine, right?!"
"Please stop movingâŚ" The chip in his ear buzzed loudly though all he could feel and hear was static. He felt paralyzed, what could he do? His favorite girl lies in two pieces because a building happened to collapse, "I'm coming back over there."
You'd begun to cry in earnest, fat tears rolled down your cheeks as your arms beat down on the pillar.
"Stop! I'm fine! Deku! Just pull this fucking thing off of me! I'm  fine !" You screamed out in fear, "Please!"
He knelt down and cradled your head with his arms, he smelled like sweat and the rainforest. He felt his eyes well, he was hardly able to blink the tears back. Your voice wavered as you asked the dreaded question. It was much softer this time.
 "Will I die?"
How do you tell someone they will die no matter what happens? The silence hung poignant in the air as the distant sound of sirens blared as background noise.
"I'm so sorry! It's my fault! I should've grabbed you when I had the chance!"
"Shut up. Don't think like that. Don't say something like that!! How could it be your fault when a villain attacked this building? It wasn't you, was it?"
Your arm reached up to his face and cupped his cheek, your eyes memorizing every green swirl and every eyelash. There was no time to ponder on what to say, the sirens grew closer. You didn't have time to think about how scary death was or what would come when it was all over. The pillar was going to be lifted soon, and then you'd be gone.
"I'm sorry, Izuku. To leave you this way... I'm so sorry," the words felt like arrows in his heart. So final and spoken so softly. Like you'd already made up your mind, how could you make up your mind in a time like this?!
"You're not gonna leave; if I activate my quirk, I can race you to the medics in thirty seconds, maybe twenty. That's our plan, okay? And then I can--"
 "I love you."
"Stop it! Stop saying things like you're ready to go! You aren't! I'm not! Just stop!"
 "I love you."
"Please, I'm not ready...Please keep living with me, I just want to be with you!" He clenched his fist as tears freely fell onto your cheeks, mixing with your own, "This won't be your last time saying this, I promise! Just let meâŚ"Â
You smiled, no teeth this time. Just your lips curving upwards.
"Don't leave meâŚ"
"I love you!" It was merely a whisper this time.
The rock near them was blown away, surely by someone's quirk. But all he could see was your smile and your kind but sorrowful eyes.
"I'm sorry I made you wait so long. I love you, Izuku."
The lump in his throat ached as he smiled and took your hand off his cheek, interlacing the fingers together. The other free hand came to push the hair out of your face. Would he say it?
He stared down at the red and white headstone, custom made. It even had your aura with the bright flowers adorning the soft patch of grass in front of it. He knelt down, leaving red and white roses. He supposed red should be an awful color, having seen you drenched in it in your final moments. But whenever he thought of red, he just remembered those rings that made you look so bright. That dress that made you look so beautiful. The lips that often smiled at him. The love you two had shared.
"I'm sorry I couldn't say it then. But I hope you knew that I loved you too."
It was another day of bright blue skies with fluffy clouds and warm wind. He guessed that All Might would have been enjoying a nice cup of tea while he reminisced. As for you, he assumed you'd be out there saving cats and dogs while accepting churros from strangers.
It was one of the many bright blue-skied days, but one of the first without you.

Chess. Chapter 12

Y/N never hurt anyone who didnât deserve it. She only took what she needed, or what she felt others needed. Sheâd stayed out of sight for a long time, avoiding anything that could get her in to too much trouble. But for some reason Rick Flag shows up in her life, and in an instant, everything changes.Â
TW: Language, sexual themes, injuries. Rated MÂ
(This chapter is a little less Rick centric, but none the less essential to the story. This story is obviously non-canon, i.e. Diablo and GQ, but I hope youâll enjoy it either way. Let me know if you want to be added to the tag list.)
A spotlight blazed at us. I stumbled backwards. âHarley!â, I hissed again. âGet back here!â.
She smiled in my general direction, unable to see me. âItâs fine, Chessâ, she beamed. âShow yourselfâ.
I shook my head, but deciding to trust her, reappeared.
âJonny, would you turn that down? Itâs doing nothing for my complexionâ, Harley called; and the spotlight was turned off; replaced by softer lights, coming from colored lightbulbs spread throughout the large hallway we were standing in.
A serious looking man in a suit stepped out in front of us, surrounded by masked enforcers; all carrying machine guns.
âHarleyâ, the man said. âYouâre back. Againâ. He did not sound pleased.
Harley introduced us. âChess; Jonny Frost. Jonny; this is Chess. Sheâs my friend; and if you let anyone touch her, Iâll punch you in the dick. Againâ, she jeered.
She took my hand excitedly. âCome on! I have someone I want you to meetâ, she grinned; before stopping to plump up her hair. âDo I look ok?â, she asked. âYou look like a high end escort, who got dressed in a candy shopâ, I answered with a smile. âPerfect!â, she beamed.
Running up another flight of stairs and down a hallway â all the way dragging me with her â she stopped in front of a double door, painted over with a large grinning mouth, I knew all too well what represented. I didnât like where this was headed.
The man named Frost had run after us with his men, and stepped in front her, blocking our path.
âThis isnât a good time, Harleyâ, he said gruffly. âMove, Jonnyâ, she said, and bared her teeth at him menacingly. âOr Iâll tell him about the time you tried on his favorite Rolexâ.
Frost tightened his lips. âHeâs got companyâ, he said. She shoved him out of the way. âGreat!â, she smiled. âBring us a tray of macaroons and some espresso. Itâs been a long dayâ.
I grabbed her wrist, and held her back. âHarley; this isnât a good idea!â, I whispered.
âThisâ, she said, âis our ticket to freedom!â.
She threw the door open and stepped inside.
âHi, puddinââ.
---
We were in white walled conference room. Walls were adorned with old paintings of what seemed like very important men; whose faces had all been retouched with spraypaint â making them smile menacingly at me. There was a crystal chandelier hanging over a long table; set with plates and silverware for guests that didnât seem to have had the guts to show up. There were lobsters, cheeseburgers, exotic fruits and jellybeans; laid out on silver trays. Jewelry and money were thrown about the table between the trays.
At the end of the table sat a man with a pale gaunt face, green slicked back hair, and terrifying blue eyes. He was wearing a white tuxedo, shirt open to show the many tattoos and gold chains on his chest. His painted lips spread in a snarl; and he stood up; putting his hands on the table to lean over it.
The Joker. My breath hitched, and I could hear my heart beat in fear.
Next to him, sitting in front of a bowl of what looked like clam chowder; was a man that seemed familiar. In another chair, in the corner, sat a man in a lab coat, working on a tablet.
âPrincessâ, the clown sneered. âLast time I saw you, we had an⌠exchangeâ.
Harley pouted innocently. âI knowâ, she said. âI shouldnât have taken the lambo out on my ownâ. She fluttered her lashes at him.
Frost, who had followed us inside; was smirking at her from where he was stood, leaning against the wall.
Joker exhaled in a way that sounded like a mix between a growl and a laugh. âIt wasnât so much the joyride, as the scratch across the hood; from your impromptu dance party on top of it â in stilettos, I might addâ, he said, slammed his fist into the table, and stared at her intensely.
Harleys eyes started to well up, and her pink lower lip vibrated.
âHarleyâŚâ, Joker said softly; and suddenly leapt onto the table; his snakeskin boot stepping in the bowl of chowder, spraying the content in the face of the man in front of it.
Kicking a lit candelabra out of the way, and stepping on a tray of pearls and grapes; Joker stomped down the makeshift runway of the tabletop. Harley squealed, and sprang up to meet him, running into his arms.
âI missed you, bunnyâ, he growled, and grabbed Harleys butt cheeks; making her jump into his arms, straddling his hips. She squealed, and latched on to his lips; and they began making out in a way I hadnât seen anyone do since high school. âI canât stay mad at youâ, he smiled between kisses.
Frost met my eyes, and rolled them at me. Here we go again, he seemed to be saying; and I couldnât help but smile.
Joker laid Harley down on the table, and crawled on top of her; shedding his tuxedo jacket in the process â revealing a gun holster carrying a large silver revolver. Harley grabbed on to the back of his head, as he moved downwards, attacking her neck and collarbone with brutal kisses.
Frost cleared his throat, and the green-haired crimelord looked up, meeting my eyes in a terrifying glare.
âWhatâs this?â, he snarled.
Remembering herself, Harley grinned at him. âOh yeah!â, she said. âI brought you a present, baby!â.
Joker sprang of the table in a swift move, and walked up to me; head tilted â never breaking eye contact.
I couldnât blink. Ok. Iâm dead, I thought for the second time in just a few days; and swallowed hard.
Harley came running up behind him, hooking her arm into his, and smiled brightly â lipstick smeared across her chin from their make out-session.
âThis is Chessâ, Harley said. âChess, this is my Jokerâ. She put her head on his shoulder.
Giving Harley a quick pat on the head â still not breaking eye contact with me â he shrugged her off, and stepped towards me again.
âChessâŚâ, Joker breathed, baring his gleaming gold rimmed teeth. âYouâre the disappearing girlâ. My breath hitched, as he came closer; and I began to move backwards. He grinned at me, and put his hand up, as if coaxing a small animal.
âHere, kitty kitty kittyâŚâ, he said, and moved up slowly until his face was merely a foot away from mine.
âSheâs got a killer smile, puddinââ, Harley said from behind him.
In a swift move, he grabbed a hold of both sides of my face, and moved in so close that I could feel his warm breath on my skin.
âShow meâ, he demanded with a sneer.
Not moving, I glanced towards Harley, who was nodding at me encouragingly.
Taking a deep shaking breath; I focused, and smiled.
The clowns breath hitched, and his eyes widened from seeing my face disappear between his hands. He jumped back, looking from his hands to where I had been standing.
This would be a good time to run, I thought to myself, but for some reason, I decided against it. I reappeared.
Joker cried out at seeing my shape return; then began laughing. âOh, honey!â, he declared. âThis is the best present you have ever given me!â.
âEven better than the Rolex?â, Harley answered, sending a leering look in Frosts direction. The man looked down at his feet. âCan we keep her?â, Harley asked.
Joker growled, and grabbed her waist, pulling her into a violent kiss.
âMr. Joker?â, a voice called from the other end of the table. The chowder man was wiping his face with a napkin. Joker angrily unlatched himself from Harley again.
âJerry, I was having a moment here!â, he growled.
I looked at the stout man, whose suit was still stained.
Judge Jeremiah Kelper.
I breathed heavily â every fiber in my body in attack mode. I clenched my fists; and my claws sprang out. Storming towards the slimy politician; Frost sprang out of nowhere, and held me in a tight grip, as I snapped my teeth at his hands, trying to break free.
âDo you two know each other, Jerry?â, Joker asked with a smile.
Harley looked from me to the judge; eyes serious.
Kelper looked at me; a scar running from his cheekbone down to his chin. I made my mark, alright, I grinned to myself. âIâve never met the young lady in my lifeâ, Kelper said. Well I was invisible for most of our last⌠encounter.
âHowâre the balls, your honorâ, I hissed.
Joker turned his face to look at me. With a sudden realization, he laughed loudly.
âGhosts, Jerry?â, he guffawed. He walked up to Kelper, and patted his cheek. âYou should probably leave, before I let my newest pet loose on you. Weâll finish this meeting tomorrowâ.
âBut mr. Jokerâ Kelper began. âI really need to talk to you about these attacks in Downtownâ.
Faster than a lightning strike; the clowns revolver was aimed at Kelpers head. He gulped. âT-tomorrowâ, he stammered; and went to leave the room â taking a wide path around me and Frost.
He quietly closed the door behind him.
âNow, where were weâ, Joker said; and looked at Harley pointedly. She shrieked excitedly, and ran into his arms.
âLetâs go. Give them some privacyâ, Frost said, and pulled at me. I tried to struggle. âTrust meâ, he said. âYou donât want to see thisâ.
From behind us I heard groans and moans. âMr. JâŚâ, Harleys voice gasped.
We left the room as swiftly as we could.
---
I was put in a smaller room furnished with an intricately patterned couch. A six-pack of off brand cokes were set on the table, next to a plate of sushi I didnât have the appetite to eat.
I wasnât exactly a prisoner; but a man had been posted outside the room for if I needed anything, as Frost had said, before leaving me alone.
About an hour had gone by, when I heard a gentle knock at the door. Harley stepped inside; wearing a bright purple minidress, and a brand new diamond necklace.
âWowâ, I said, staring at it. âItâs just a little somethingâ, she beamed, and gestured for me to sit next to her on the couch.
âThat judgeâ, she asked, âwas he the one you neutered a year ago?â, she asked earnestly.
âHow did you know?â, I asked. âI might have eavesdropped on you and the pole when you was talkingâ, she answered.
Rick! âHarley, we need to get out of here!â, I said, panicked. âWhyâ, she asked indignantly. âBecause if we donât return to Flag and the others, theyâll come in after us, and thatâs not a fight I think they can winâ. âFlag or J?â, she asked, brows furrowed. âMaybe bothâ, I answered.
Harley popped a maki roll into her mouth, and chewed audibly. âWe canât go right now. I havenât seen my puddinâ in foreverâ. I shook my head at her. âThis isnât the time for a Bonnie and Clyde, going out guns blazing situation!â.
She sighed, and toyed with the heavy necklace. âI talked to Jâ. I raised my eyebrow at her. âWhat?â, she said. âWe talk. Sometimes⌠in betweenâŚâ. Her eyes glazed over for a second, before returning to focus, and she shook her head. âAnyway. My J has been hanging out with that judge for a while. Heâs been throwing him some parties; helping him out with some cash. Apparently judgie is a fan of cheap strippers and expensive scotch; but thatâs not so good when you got a political career to tend to⌠You know. That old storyâ. Another roll disappeared into her mouth.
âIs this relevant to our about to die situation?â, I hissed.
She looked at me, annoyed. âIâm gettinâ to it. GoshâŚâ. She licked her fingers. âSo. Jâs been throwing some money in Kelpers direction. And in return, Kelpers made sure the cops look the other way when puddinâs been doing business around the cityâ. So Kelper was working with the Joker. That much I had gathered. âAnd?â, I coaxed at her to continue.
âKelperâs been gettingâ a bit upset lately, since Jâs moved in on Downtown. Some bank or other was robbed; and suddenly, the limp bastard doesnât want to continue their partnershipâ. She raised a brow and smirked at me. âApparently, letting criminals run free in your city, doesnât look good when youâre running for congressâ.
I was still confused. I was also drained, so I opened a soda can; and began drinking from it.
Harley continued. âNow todayâ, she suddenly leered at me, âKelper told my J that he needed to back down. Or elseâ. âIâm sure Joker took that wellâ, I said, and took a sip. âThat bowl of chowder in front of him wasnât clamâ, she grinned. âIt was pigs ballsâ.
I choked on the soda running down my throat, and coughed. Harley slapped my back and giggled at me. Once Iâd calmed myself, she continued.
âKelper told J that he had friends in high placesâ, she said.
âThatâs why Waller wants the Joker deadâ, I realized. Having a crony in congress would definitely help her further her own agenda. Especially surrounding the question of tracking down bad guys, and sending them on what pretty much amounted to suicide missions. âDuh!â, Harley smiled. âHereâs the thing. You want to get back at that judge. And I donât want my boyfriend deadâ. She looked at me pointedly.
âSo we work togetherâ.
We heard running down the hall. Joker swung open the door and looked at us. He was flanked by the man in the lab coat, and Frost.
âSnickerdoodle, we have company!â, he said, and looked me in the eyes. âThis is it, Chessy Chesschess. In or outâ.
I heard gunshots from downstairs. He snarled at me. âYou want that collar off?â. I looked down at my harness. The light was still green. I nodded at him. âGood kitty. Doc, make it happen!â, he growled. The doctor furiously typed something on his tablet, and the little light on my chest went black. I quickly rid myself of the harness, and threw it on the floor. Joker grabbed Harleys hand. âLets go!â.
More gunshots. I could hear Ricks angry voice roar. Harley looked from my worried face to the clowns. âDonât hurt our friends too much. And leave the soldier aloneâ. âYou steppinâ out on me, pumpkin?â, he asked her in a menacing voice. ââCourse not baby. But this one has a thing for men in uniformâ, she answered, and nodded in my direction.
Joker gave a final snarl, and nodded at Frost â making the man run in the direction of the gunfire.
Harley took a hold of me.
âGrab her arm!â, Harley told Joker, and he put his cold hand around my uncovered wrist. I made us disappear.
---
We ran up down the hallway, leading us to a separate staircase. I heard running behind us, and a yelp from a henchman; as Croc bit into his shoulder, and threw him over his head.
âWhere are they?â, Ricks voice boomed. I was aching to show myself; but the Jokers icy hand reminded me of what I needed to do.
Once at the bottom of the stairs, my companions let go of me. We were met by Frost holding open a back door for us. Outside stood the ghastliest sports car Iâd ever seen. Chrome, neon purple varnish, and gold rims. âGet in!â, Joker yelled, and got behind the wheel; Harley joining him in the front seat. âChess!â, she called.
The door behind us swung open, and Rick ran through it, clocking Frost over the head with the back end of his gun.
âY/N!â, he hollered at me, eyes furious.
Joker aimed his revolver at him, and I stepped in to the line of shot. âDonât, puddinâ!â, Harley yelled, and grabbed for his arm. Joker growled, but put the gun down.
âWhat are you doing, kitten?â, Rick asked, voice shaking.
I walked up to him, and put my hands on either side of his face.
âDonât do this, babyâ, he pleaded; his eyes intense. I kissed him softly.
âYou asked me to trust you. Now Iâm asking you to trust meâ, I said. âLet me go. Please!â. He furrowed his brows, then pulled me in for another kiss. He put his forehead to mine.
âGoâ, he said hoarsely.
I ran to the car; and threw myself into the back seat. The Joker revved the engine, and then sped off; the force of it throwing me into my seat.
I turned my head to look out the back window. Behind us Rick and my friends were disappearing into the fog of the city.

5 + 1; Bucky Barnes
(Five times Bucky Barnes almost kissed you, plus the one time that he did)
Bucky x reader, avengers x reader ,(platonic)
Warnings: a lil bit of swearing :)
Word count: 4.4 k (I'm sorry)
A/n: I LOVED WRITING THIS SO MUCH! I'm back at it again with my obsession with James Barnes, so here it is. Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoy it! - Aphrodite :))
(1) "C'mon James, you need to go to bed!" Bucky was sprawled out on the sofa in the Avengers common area, face pale and clammy. You had been with the avengers for a year, and Bucky was definitely the person you were closest with. You didn't know if you saw him as a brother, a best friend or even something more, but you both definitely felt connected.
"Y/n," he groaned, "I'm fine. I've survived Russian medical tests and torture, a little cold is something I can handle." He sniffed and wiped his nose on a tissue, putting it into his jumper pocket. He looked seriously in pain, his forehead sparked beads of sweat and his eyes looked tired, almost hollow.
"Firstly, it's not a cold, it's the flu." You stated, picking up a few stray tissues and throwing them into the bin a few meters away. "Secondly, if you don't go to bed now I will carry you, and God knows neither of us want that." You glared at him, expression stern with your hands on your hips.
"Good god, you're beginning to turn into Steve." He muttered, rising from the sofa. Heaving in pain, you put his arm over your shoulders and helped him to his room.
Once you got to Bucky's room, he sat on the edge of the bed. You stayed at the door, holding onto the door frame. "Right, change into your pyjamas and get comfy in bed. I'm going to the medical bay to get you some cold & flu meds, a thermometer and a glass of water. I'll be back in two secs."
Once you left, Bucky took off his jumper and sweats, to be left in a black tank top and his boxers. He flopped into bed, pulling the blanket up to his waist. You returned after a few minutes, not bothering to knock on the door. You spend more time in his room than yours, and you knew he didn't mind your presence.
Panting, you set down a small glass of water and a box of tablets, holding a small thermometer and cloth in the other hand. He looked up at you, puzzled at your breathlessness.
"Ran into Tony...on the way...had to run away...so he wouldn't ask me why...I had medicine and stuff." You took a few deep breaths and plopped onto the bed, sitting cross-legged facing Bucky. Taking the dry cloth, you gently patted at his forehead, mopping up a small bit of sweat. You continued to do this, moving a few stray pieces of hair from his face and tucking them behind his ear, until he looked a bit better. Although you were both silent, an awful lot of eye contact was held, and that was a conversation all in its self.
"Thank you, y/n." Bucky looked serious, as if there was something he really wanted to tell you. Laughing, you popped two cold & flu tablets out of a packet and placed them on the nightstand. "Jeez, don't get all soft on me now. You're not dying, Buck, I just want to make sure you're alright!" You grabbed the thermometer and held it up to his mouth. "This won't taste good, but once this is over I will definitely make you some soup. Open wide..."
Bucky smiled, shaking his head. "I have arms, y/n, I can do this mys-" you shut him up by shoving the thermometer into his mouth, laughing when he almost choked on it. As he re-adjusted the thermometer, you placed a hand on his forehead. He relaxed under your touch, closing his eyes; he was definitely burning up, his forehead was far warmer than your hands.
You took the thermometer from his mouth and brought your hand back from his head. Bucky opened his eyes, and you gave him a sigh. "Yep, you've definitely got a fever. You need to rest, I'll come and check on you soon...maybe put on a movie? Anything to distract you, really. Okay?" Bucky nodded, sitting up a bit more. You leant in and gave him a hug, and placed a kiss on his cheek. You pulled away slightly, your foreheads inches away. You leaned into his touch, his hands holding your arms, but stood up when you realised what was happening.
"I...I'll see you soon, Buck." And with that, you were gone.
(2) The clock read 6:14. The smell of marinara sauce and french cheese wandered around the avengers tower, making you grow more and more hungry by the second.
One minute. One minute, and you'd be able to stuff your face with Wanda's signature pasta. One more minute and you'd be in pasta heaven. One more minute.
You began to grow impatient, the ticking of your clock driving you insane. You paced in your room, mouth watering at the thought of the delicious dinner waiting for you. 30 seconds.
Your stomach growled like a tiger hunting it's prey. You opened your door, an even stronger whiff of Wanda's creation hitting you like a sucker punch. You turned back around to look at the clock - 5 more seconds.
It's almost time.
4 more seconds.
You couldn't wait.
3.
A month's worth of pleasure waiting for you on one plate.
2.
Anticipation bubbled inside of you.
1.
This is it.
The clock turned to 6:15, and you heard Wanada call from the floor below.
"DINNERS READY!"
Racing out of your room, you ran at the speed of light. You knew what was waiting for you, and you weren't going to waste any time getting to it.
Jogging down the stairs, you saw everybody around the kitchen, talking and laughing; you got to the 5th step from the bottom before you ankle buckled underneath you. With a yelp, you twisted and fell, trying to grab the banister for support but failing. However, you didn't fall on the floor, but fell into a pair of arms. Looking up, you saw Bucky grinning.
"You're telling me you can kill 8 Hydra agents with one bullet while fighting off three more at the same time, but when it comes to stairs you forget how to walk?" Tilting your head back in laughter, Bucky tightened his grip, holding you bridal style. Almost falling out of his arms, you threw your hands behind his neck, causing you both to laugh even more. You heard Wanda and Nat laughing with you from the kitchen, but you were only focused on Bucky. After you stopped laughing, you smiled widely, looking back at him.
"The sad part is, you know exactly why I was running down the stairs." He smiled back, eyes glistening. "Mhm," he nodded, rolling his eyes, "you are so desperate to see me that you couldn't help but run!"
Giving him a fake slap on the arm, you chuckled.
"I know, I know. You really want the pasta, don't you?" Nodding, Bucky shook his head. You felt relaxed in his arms, comfortable and secure. He could've put you down a few minutes ago, but you didn't mind. You looked into his eyes and he did the same thing, breath hitching in your throat. Only just realising that your face was particularly close to Bucky's, you felt his gentle breath on your cheek. You closed your eyes as he leaned in closer to you, his hair tickling the side of your face.
"What's up with the lovebirds!?" Tony exclaimed (loudly), walking into the kitchen. Both you and Bucky bolted upright, and you fell out of his arms. Hitting the floor with a smack, you landed face-up.
"Son of a BITCH, that hurt!" You yelled, Bucky rushing to help you up. You all laughed, but something inside you felt disappointed, almost unfulfilled.
(3) after dinner that night, you avoided Bucky for roughly a week. You felt embarrassed, awkward, so you kept your distance. You went down to the training room one day and checked the chart: Wednesday - Sam and Bucky's turn to use the sparring mat. You didn't mind being in the same room, as he'd be focused on training, so you were just going to use one of the machines. When you walked in, you found Bucky on the treadmill - Sam wasn't there. Luckily, Bucky hadn't noticed you yet, so you turned around and slowly walk away. Before you were fully out of the door, you heard Bucky call your name.
"Y/n!" Sighing, you turned back around and gave Bucky a tight smile. "I thought today was your turn to train with Sam?" You asked, placing the water bottle and small towel that you were carrying on one of the benches and crossing your arms, becoming conscious that you were only wearing shorts and a sports bra; it was summer, after all.
He smiled and wiped his forehead with his own towel, stepping off the machine. "Yeah, Sam didn't feel so good and had to cancel. Thought I'd come here on my own, but you're here now, right? D'you want to spar?" Your mind raced, you knew there was no getting out of this one.
"Sure thing. I train with Nat anyway and I definitely need a break from her Russian spy tricks." He laughed as you both stepped onto the training mat. "Is now a bad time to remind you that I'm trained in Russian spy tricks?" You smiled, genuinely relaxed. "Maybe not."
Not a second had gone by and you had already started sparring. You kicked him on his side, he punched you in the throat, you pushed him onto the floor, he took you with him with a swift move of his leg. You both jumped up and started all over again, even more vigorous. You went to punch him on the side of his face, but he grabbed your wrist before it met his cheek. "Try again."
With your free arm, you elbowed him above the shoulder and punched him in the nose. In retaliation, you recieved a blow to the stomach, but you were quick to push him up against the wall and lock him there with your arm against his throat. You leaned in close and whispered in his ear.
"I've been wanting to kick your ass all week."
He quickly flipped you over, and you pressed your back against the wall. He pinned your arms up above your head with one hand and held your waist with the other. You tried to kick him away, but his legs were pressed flatly against yours. He leaned in even closer.
"Yeah? Hit me with your best shot."
His words were a mix between whisper and a grunt, which sent a shiver down your spine. However, you knew his weakness. You pressed your forehead against his, and his grip weakened slightly. Just before your lips were about to touch his, you raised your leg and hit him in the crotch with your knee. He stumbled backwards, giving you the perfect opportunity to strike him in the chest. He went toppling to the side, falling heavily onto the floor. Calmly, you walked over and looked down at him.
"Is that the best you can do?"
(4) summer came and went in a flash, and before you knew it, the trees had lost their leaves and everything was a warm shade of red and orange. It was a late autumn evening and you had been reading in bed. It was far to cold for pyjamas, so you wore joggers and one of Bucky's knitted jumpers that you had stolen a few months ago, it smelled exactly like him. Turning your bedside light off, you glanced at your clock, which read 10:53. Laying down, you soon fell into sleepy doze, the sound of rain patterning against your window aiding your sleep.
You must have been asleep for almost an hour before you were woken up. Light streamed into your room from the open door in front of you, and you saw the silhouette of somebody crouched down by the side of your bed.
"Hmm?" You sat up and rubbed your eyes, adjusting to the light. The person sat next to you on your bed and you immediately knew who it was.
Bucky.
He looked a bit guilty for waking you up, but his eyes looked sorrowful and ridden with regret.
"Nightmares again?" You tiredly asked, placing a hand on Bucky's shoulder. He nodded, avoiding your gaze; his hair was pinned back into a bun, and his hands shook slightly. Usually, when Bucky had nightmares, he'd get into your bed and cuddle you, falling asleep with you by his side. However, you wanted to do something to distract him from his memories, and not just cuddle him. He stood up, about to walk to the other side of your bed before you stopped him. Rolling out from underneath the covers, you walked over to your record player and set up a vinyl. It was a record that Buck had gotten you for your birthday, 'The Best Of The 60s'. Quietly, Elvis began singing one of his ballads as you walked over to Bucky.
Placing your arms behind his neck, you gently swayed to the beat of the music. He cautiously wrapped his arms around your waist and bent down slightly, allowing you to rest your face in his neck. You couldn't be any closer; your torsos were pressed firmly against each other, arms tightly gripping to the other person. As you both rocked back forth, Bucky raised one of his arms up and placed a hand behind your head, holding you closer. You had never felt safer in your life, and you began to think about the man holding you.
When you first met, you could honestly say that you were scared of him. You weren't intimidated by him, but you were terrified that he would snap at you or hate you as soon as you met. You could've never guessed that you'd have the sort of connection that you do, but it worked out brilliantly. After growing more mature with each other, you found it easier to empathise with him. Everything that he had been through - torture, near death experiences, kidnapping, forced murder - you felt the same pain as he did.
Tightening your grip around him, you let out a few tears. You were comfortable crying around him, he never made you feel uncomfortable, yet you really didn't want to break down in this situation. But guess what? You broke down anyway.
The few drops on your cheeks became a river of tears as you thought more about Bucky. Your shoulders heaved, and Bucky noticed instantly. He knew why you were crying, he felt the same pain. He stroked your hair, warm fingertips against your scalp. He lifted your jumper up ,slightly, with his other hand and rubbed circles on the small of your back. Your skin tingled under his burning touch.
Bucky's eyes stung with tears; there was a lingering thought between you both that hung in the air, and he hated seeing you in pain. You pulled back from him, moving your arms to his shoulders. The music stopped a while ago, but you still moved to a shared rhythm. You looked down, but Bucky used his real hand to lift your chin up. His hand was large and warm, radiating heat. He cupped your cheek, and with his thumb, brushed away a few of our tears. You tilted your head into his hand, closing your eyes. In that moment, Bucky would've kissed you. He wanted to lean down and brush your lips with his, run a hand through your hair as he kissed you. Yet he saw the sleepiness in your face, and knew it wouldn't be right.
Putting both arms around your waist, he effortlessly lifted you up, and you wrapped your legs around his hips. He walked you back over to your bed and placed you underneath the soft covers, planting a kiss on your forehead. With a small smile and a 'goodnight', you were back on your own.
(5) three months later, it was almost Christmas, and the avengers had gone all out. The group always did something ridiculously extra over the holidays, and this year Tony had rented out an ice skating rink. It was only a few blocks away from the Avengers tower, so you all took one of Tony's limos down there. You wore a red turtleneck jumper, a plaid skirt and black tights, as the group arranged that the dress code was red. Bucky wore a dark red shirt + hoodie with jeans, and everybody else wore an odd combination of christmas jumpers, cardigans, tee shirts, and (in Steve's case) a red Hawaiian shirt.
In the limo was you, Bucky, Tony, Steve, Natasha, Wanda, Sam, Bruce, Vision and Clint. Everybody was invited, but many had gone home to see their family for the holidays. You all made a pretty nice group, though.
The skating rink was huge, enough to fit hundreds of people. As you all sat outside of the rink putting on your ice skates, Tony asked a very important question.
"How many of you guys can actually skate?"
Out of all 10 of you, only three could say that you've skated before.
"I can." You stated, tying up your laces.
"Same here." Replied Wanda.
"Me too." Said Sam. Everyone looked at him, amused yet puzzled.
"What!? My mom made me go with her when I was a kid, alright?" Everyone laughed, and Sam looked slightly pissed.
Once you were ready, you carefully stood up and took Bucky's arm.
"D'you want to skate with me?" You asked, entering the rink. You flawlessly made your way around the edge, Bucky slipped quite a few times. "How did you get so good at this?" He questioned, clinging onto the barrier for dear life.
"I used to go all the time with my friends, there was a cute little skating rink next to our school." You span around on the ice, landing perfectly on your feet. Bucky tried to leave the wall but fell directly onto his bottom, making you laugh harder than you ever have.
The night went on peacefully as you skated with your friends. Nat and Wanda stayed together the entire time, hand in hand, and every time you looked over at Steve he was on the floor. You and Bucky spent your time skating around the rink together, talking about anything and everything, laughing whenever you saw Steve fall over. You all decided to leave at 9pm, and 9pm seemed to be coming closer by the second. You and Bucky were the last ones left on the rink, everybody else had gone to the limo. Steve sat on the bench outside of the barrier, putting his shoes back on.
"Should we wait for you guys?" He asked, putting his skates back on the shelf.
You glanced at Bucky who had just fallen over and giggled. "Nah, we'll get a taxi."
Steve left, and Bucky got back up. "Come over here." You beckoned him to the centre of the rink where you were stood. He laughed, shaking his head. "And sign my death certificate? No thank you."
"C'mon Buck, you haven't left the barrier all night!" You skated over to him and took his hand. "I'll help you?" He sight and gave you his other hand, and you both slowly skated over to the centre of the rink. "See how easy this is?" You asked as you let go of his hands and span around on the spot. Moments after you let go of his hands, he fell backwards. You didn't realise until too late, and fell over his leg, resulting in you on top of him. You couldn't of landed worse; your legs were straddling his hips, your chests pressed up against each other, your hands on the ice either side of Bucky's head.
Laughing nervously, you gave him an awkward smile and apologised. He sat up, you now sat, facing him, oh his lap. You both thought the exact same thing - now was the perfect time to kiss. Both of you slowly leaned in, and your lips barely brushed before the lights went out. You laughed hysterically, plunged into darkness.
"Shit," Bucky exclaimed, holding onto your hand, "how are we going to get out?"
(6) not a week had gone by before the new year came around, and Pepper had planned a new years eve party. Despite it only being the same eleven of you that spent Christmas together, Pepper told you all she wanted everybody to wear suits and party dresses, so you could have a fancy new years party. It was 8:25pm when you went to the common area. Everything was different; furniture had been moved, there was a soft orange glow from the ambience lights that lit up the room, and the large windows showed the rest of the city below ((the common area looks how it did in the party scene in age of ultron)). You were the last to arrive, and you heard music playing from the common area as you walked down the stairs.
Tony had hired chefs and bartenders, and set up a photo booth in the corner of the room. Fairy lights were strung around the large room, and you heard the sound of Steve, Bucky and Sam laughing together. You wore a floor length, red glittery dress that had a cut on the side, running from the floor to the side of your thigh. Your hair was curled and gently flowed down your shoulders, almost meeting the sweetheart neckline on your dress. Your outfit was complete with a pair of red heels, and you could admit that you looked stunning.
Once you got to the bottom of the stairs, you immediately walked over to Natasha and Wanda who were at the bar. Nat wore a knee length black bodycon dress with spaghetti straps and stilettos, whereas wanda wore a dark purple tiered dress with black wedges. As soon as they saw you, both of their jaws dropped. You blushed, your cheeks matching the red lipstick you wore. "I'm overdressed, aren't I?" You asked, feeling slightly self conscious.
"No way! You look amazing!" Wanda reassured, looking you up and down.
"Wanda's not the only one thinking it." Natasha said as she pointed a finger past your shoulder. You looked behind you and saw Sam, Steve and Bucky staring at you. Steve and Sam merely gaped at your appearance, whereas Bucky grinned at you. Turning back around, you laughed with Nat and Wanda and grabbed a bottle of water from the bartender. Once you got your drink, you walked over to Bucky who was now sat alone on one of the sofas.
"Good evening, James." You spoke in a fake posh accent which made both of you laugh, and you sat down next to him. He wore an all black suit, his hair styled nicely, falling past his jaw. You began talking, but the chit chat didn't last long before Tony arrived from the kitchen.
"Tables set guys, let's eat!"
You sat next to Natasha at the rectangular dinner table, Bucky sitting across from you. Everyone ate steak and salad, and you each went around the table saying what your new years resolution would be. When it got to your turn, you were stumped.
"I don't know...I can't really think of anything." You stated, taking a sip of your glass of white wine.
"Even though we've known you for a year and a half, there's still so much that you haven't told us about yourself." Clint opined. There was a mutual agreement between the rest of the group, but Bucky stayed silent.
"Maybe your new years resolution could be to learn a language?" Sam added, taking a bite of his dinner. Bucky snickered as you turned to face Sam.
"Non penso sia davvero necessario." (I don't think that's really necessary) Everybody looked taken aback at your bilingual secrecy, except Bucky. Instead, he just smiled at you.
After dinner, everybody went back to the common area and danced. After Tony and Steve got defensive about who could dance better, they decided to host a mini dance competition. Bucky looked around, but you were nowhere to be seen. Before anybody could notice he was leaving, he snuck out of the room and down the corridor. It took him a few minutes before he saw you out on the balcony, staring up into the night sky.
"What's up?" He asked as he stepped out into the cold breeze, placing an arm around your shoulder. You tilted your head to rest on his arm, and sighed, your breath forming a little cloud of steam. "I'm just thinking about that delicious chocolate ice cream." Bucky laughed, thinking back to the ice cream everybody had for dessert. "I don't blame you, it was very nice." He spoke, voice calm and sweet.
"Hmm" you sight contently. Bucky felt the goosebumps on your arms and pulled away.
"Here." He said, taking off his blazer and handing it to you.
"Thank you, Buck." You replied, wrapping it around your cold arms.
"Wait..." He paused, looking at your face. "Mhm, you've got a bit of chocolate ice cream in the corner of your mouth!" He laughed as you wiped around the side of you lip.
"Gone?" You asked, examining your clean finger. "Nope, try again." You breathed out, swatting at your mouth again, but your finger always came back clean. "Can you get it off for me?" You asked him, and he smirked.
"Sure thing, y/n."
He leaned in close to you and crashed his lips onto yours. His lips were dry and he kissed roughly, making your soft lips turn to jelly under his. Your hands found his neck, and his your waist as you ran a few fingers through his hair. He pulled you closer, deepening your kiss, as you sighed into his mouth. You weren't quick to pull away, making sure you savour the feeling of his lips against yours. You smiled at him as he looked at you, pure admiration in his eyes.
"You don't know how fucking long I've been waiting to do that."
