#Buck x tommy
Text
I don't really understand some people's strong insistence that Buck needs to openly date/play the field now that he's bisexual. Or that it is unlikely/impossible that he could happily settle down with Tommy because he's his first male partner. One, it feels like it's propagating negative stereotypes. And two, it feels like a crucial misunderstanding of Buck's character.
Now, if it was Buck 1.0 who discovered this new facet of his sexuality, sure, he'd probably be hooking up with men and women in equal measure. And hats off to him. The guy's a T-bone steak. But since Abby, he's been in search of a serious, committed relationship. He wants to share a deep and profound connection with someone. More so, he wants to love and be loved in return. So, to me, it isn't surprising at all that even with men added into the equation, he has still zeroed in his attention on a single person (Tommy).
That segues into the other popular talking point that Tommy's only purpose is to serve as a plot device to open Buck's eyes to his bisexuality. If that were the case, then his role in the story would have been accomplished in 7x05. They could have kissed, and gone on their date, have it be crashed by Eddie, Buck putting his foot in his mouth with the 'hot chicks' comment, Tommy stepping back by telling Buck that he isn't ready, and then he could have peaced out of the narrative. ✌️Role fulfilled. Buck could still come out to Maddie and Eddie, accept his new sense of self, and decide that he indeed doesn't desire anything serious at the moment and wants the freedom to explore. His failed date with Tommy could have served as a learning experience and he then could wait for a new guy to catch his interest.
But he doesn't do that. He doubles down on Tommy. He calls him to apologize. He invites him to coffee. He tells him that while this is all new to him, Tommy is the one he wants to explore this with. He invites him to his sister's wedding. He's all in on Tommy. Because he has strong feelings for Tommy. Inviting Tommy to the wedding wasn't just about Buck coming out to his loved ones, it was about introducing them to Tommy as his partner.
Buck is committed to his relationship with Tommy. A relationship that (most likely) is going to continue to grow in the next two episodes and then into the next season. 🤞

Buck: why is there a receipt from a jewelry store on the counter?
Tommy, panicked: *fake mouth static*
Buck: you can’t do that when I’m standing in front of you!
Tommy: *fake mouth static intensifies*

I made a little something with Photoshop 😋
I've goten the idea because "Love, actually" is Tommy's favorite movie and there is a 9-1-1 episode "Buck, actually". And well, because it is kind of funny that they will get an award for their shenanigans. Fake mouth static and all that. 😁

Just a reminder…
The cast doesn’t hate Lou. They have absolutely no reason to hate or dislike him. He’s a sweet guy who’s just doing a job that he loves.
Tommy isn’t a bad character. He isn’t racist or homophobic or an issue in any way. He’s causing no problems whatsoever for the main characters and is actively part of a storyline about a main character finally coming into himself in a positive and healthy way.
I support Lou and hope that his position on the show becomes permanent.

life like a face between your palms
buck/tommy | didn't know they were engaged | 2.4k words
“I know we just got engaged,” Tommy chuckles nervously and walks back to where Evan is standing, his hands grabbing the other side of their grocery cart. “And I don't want to pressure you, there's no rush. We can stay engaged for years, if you want to.” If he's being honest, Tommy would rather do it sooner than later, but he can be patient for Evan. “No, that's not—” Evan makes a small sound at the back of his throat, and then realization washes over him. “Oh God, wait, you were serious last night?” “W-what do you mean if I was serious?” Tommy sputters, “Of course I was!” And then, Evan laughs. Like a full on belly laugh, a crackle that booms through the grocery store's aisles. Tommy does not find it funny, nor amusing. or; Tommy stumbles over his words when trying to propose and there's a tiny bit of a miscommunication, but they get there in the end.

You know what I crave right now?
Tommy who was hurt on the job. Nothing really bad but it would mean some time off work.
But he’s so used to being alone, to deal with it himself at home that he doesn’t even call Buck.
Not even as a conscious decision but just *well I’m a big guy I can do it alone. And why would Evan even want to know about it?* way
And so he goes home after getting an early release from the hospital because no firefighters are good patients
And he goes home alone, as usual.
He takes care of his injury like he’s used to.
He cancels a date with Buck
And that’s where I’m not sure what I prefer
Tommy offhandedly saying “sorry I have to cancel, got some injuries yesterday and I can’t really use my arm”
Or Buck hearing it through the firefighter grapevine
But Buck learns about it all the same and barges into Tommy’s house, worried and angry
Fussing over Tommy while berating him for not calling him yesterday, fucking yesterday! “You were hurt for a full day and you didn’t tell me? What the fuck Tommy?”
And Tommy just confused going “oh, I didn’t think you’d care”
Not in a malicious way at all, just genuine and Buck sees the confusion in Tommy’s eyes and it breaks his heart
Seeing his boyfriend not expecting people to care if he’s hurt, not asking for help even tho Buck can see that, he’s only wearing half a tee shirt because he couldn’t pull it through his cast and so only one arm is inside and it just cover half his chest, like a toddler who got distracted while dressing himself; he needs help and his injury makes it harder for daily tasks
Buck end up being the one to tear up and hugging Tommy as hard as he can trying not to hurt him any more and just spending the evening fussing over him, and telling him how he matters to him, how he wants to know when something happens and be there
And Tommy agrees easily, but Buck can still see the confusion in his eyes like he doesn’t get why Buck is so worried about him but he’ll do as Buck demands
Buck swears he’ll show Tommy that he deserves to have people get worried over him, to take care of him

a tiny prompt: bucktommy + first morning/breakfast together ✨
buck wakes up slowly. opens his eyes, shuts them. takes a moment, awareness filtering into his brain in soft, hazy fragments; feels the sleep warm pillow under his cheek, first. the chill settling on his torso from where he's pushed the duvet down to his hips in the night. feels the warm, solid body of his boyfriend next to him. the line of heat down his arm, his side, his thigh, from where they're pressed closely together, still, telling him that they haven't moved an inch from each other, despite a whole night having had the chance to separate them in their sleep.
he opens his eyes, blinks, forcing the sleep from them, helpless against the soft smile already forming on his lips. rolls his head to the side. has to take another moment. tommy's still gone to the world, face already turned towards buck, slack and beautiful in his sleep. his hair's a mess of curls on his head, product having loosened and freed them in the night and his crows feet have smoothened out, only traces of the deep, happy lines that they are in the day. his lips are slightly parted, soft huffs of air escaping. buck wants to bottle the sound; wants to bottle every sound. hopes he gets to hear it again and again and again.
decides, a little desperately, that looking's not enough, that he wants- needs to touch. so he does, shifts closer. turns onto his side and presses his body into tommy's, rests his head in that safe place where tommy's shoulder meets his neck and gently throws a leg over tommy's own. doesn't want to wake tommy up, but can't help but want to touch more, still. trails his fingertips down tommy's chest, his side, carefully, so carefully, over his scars and then across his stomach, comes to a stop just below his belly button and then brings his hand back up, again. repeats. repeats. repeats.
he gets lost in the movement. lets his mind wander, landing gently on the previous night. thinks about how he'd cooked tommy dinner and how tommy had refused to let him wash up afterwards. how they'd slow danced in the kitchen, smiling and giggling and trading kisses. thinks about how he hadn't wanted tommy to leave at the end of the night, how tommy hadn't wanted to go, either. how easy it was to fall into bed together. thinks about how they'd kissed, then, unhurried and soft. touched, but hadn't had sex. how tommy had still wanted to hold him, be close to him anyway. how he'd stayed anyway.
he feels tommy shift beneath him, feels his breath change, humming contently as buck trails his fingers back up to his chest. stops there. presses his hand down, palm flat against his chest. feels his heart beating, strong and steady. thinks, fleetingly, that he'd carve out his own to keep it that way. and then there's a kiss being dropped onto the top of his head, a soft, sleep rumpled, "morning, evan," murmured into his curls.
buck tilts his face up, leaves a kiss, and then another, against tommy's jaw, murmurs his own, soft, "mm, morning," and then moves his hand from tommy's chest to cup his face. leans up as tommy leans down and catches his mouth in a kiss. feels his whole body sigh as their lips meet. swallows tommy's pleased moan. leaves a last peck against his lips as he pulls away, breathless. says, eventually, even though it's the last thing he wants to do, "we should get up. shower. get breakfast."
"mmm, yeah. not yet. wanna kiss you some more first."
and then suddenly, he's being flipped. can't help the embarrasing sound that escapes him as he's manuerved, expertly, onto his back again, tommy's weight pressing down onto him, hands caging in his head on either side. feels his face heating, blush quickly travelling down to his neck, his chest. stutters, "f-fuck. okay, that was hot," and reaches out, settles one hand against the back of tommy's neck, places the other back against his cheek. thinks, privately, about how he's going to have to ask tommy to do that again, sometime.
tommy laughs, smiles down at him, mischievous. lets his eyes roam, over buck's own, down to his lips and then back up again. he dips his head, purposely misses buck's mouth. kisses his nose, instead, his cheek, his jaw, trailing kisses down to his neck. buck's breath hitches in his chest, likes the way tommy's morning stubble scratches gently against his skin. and then tommy's making his way back up, and finally, finally, kissing his mouth. asks for permission with his tongue, swallows buck's happy little sounds as he grants it. kisses him and kisses him until they both have to come up for air, panting into each other's mouths. only gives buck a moment before he's sealing the gap, kissing him again, and again, and again.
they don't make it down for breakfast for a while.
send me a bucktommy prompt and i'll write you a little something <3

Five Tevan head canons?
here are some headcanons!
Tommy is a cat person. The first time Buck spends the night, he wakes up with a tuxedo cat sitting on his chest. (The cat's name is Merlin, he's like 20 years old, very cranky, and Tommy's precious baby.)
Buck absolutely loves being the little spoon but sometimes when he wakes in the middle of the night and sees Tommy is having a nightmare, he'll plaster himself to his back, wrap his arms around Tommy's middle, press his face into the back of his neck and just rock him until he settles.
Buck and Tommy don't wait very long to have sex; sex is one of the few things Buck isn't nervous about re. his blossoming relationship with Tommy. It's the more emotional, serious stuff that gives him nervous butterflies. He's a little shocked at how deep he is after so short a period of time, so he tries desperately hold back a part of himself--because shouldn't Buck be protecting himself after the way his past relationships have gone?--but it gets harder with every passing day. Buck realizes he's in love with Tommy after their sixth date (dinner at a sushi place; they squeeze shoulder-to-shoulder in a booth and Tommy rubs Buck's back as he goes over the menu and Buck thinks I love you but instead says let's get California rolls and split them), and he realizes he wants forever with Tommy after just two months (Buck is brushing his teeth at the sink while Tommy is showering and singing old Sinatra tunes wildly offkey, and Buck thinks I'd like to do this every morning for the rest of my life). Buck manages to keep all the big feelings inside until six months have passed, when he finally confesses to Tommy that he loves him and Tommy's like oh thank God, I fell for you after the coffee date and I've been panicking that it was too fast ever since and they laugh about it together.
Buck takes Jee with him to pick out a ring to propose; a few weeks later, Tommy absconds with Jee to pick out a ring for Buck. Somehow Jee is the only Buckley-Han who can keep a secret, and Buck and Tommy surprise each other with marriage proposals on their anniversary trip.
Buck gets Tommy's callsign and a tiny LAFD helicopter (wih a little Tommy at the controls) tattooed to the inside of his wrist. For Tommy's first tattoos, he gets Who cares?! tattooed on his forearm and a little stylized image of Buck's turnouts with 'BUCKLEY' on the back on his shoulder blade. (When they get married Tommy adds Kinard-Buckley around his ring finger; Buck adds a matching Kinard-Buckley to his ring finger, gets the last lines of Tommy's wedding vows to him on his wrist under Tommy's callsign, and adds a landing pad under the little helicopter with a little figure meant to be Buck waiting for the chopper to land. They're very sentimental.)

Tommy, on the phone to Buck: I'm leaving you- Buck: You can't! I am having your baby! Or should I say babies? I just found out they're twins. Do you really wanna leave me alone with two kids? Tommy: Okay, first of all, I was gonna say I'm leaving you home alone tomorrow as I’m going to my dentist's appointment. And second of all, WHAT? Buck: I just panic every time you say you're leaving Tommy: Baby, do you want to talk? Buck: Yes. Tommy: I'm coming over, I love you. Buck, mumbling: Love you too.

At this point Buck & Tommy shippers/multi shippers just need to not engage with the toxic buddie shippers at all. That’s what I’m going to do.
They’ve reached a level where there’s no reasoning with them and the negativity is off the charts. Anything you do now will just egg them on. Don’t quote them, don’t screenshot the weird things they say, don’t argue their theories, don’t post the anon hate, don’t try to argue sense to them. Just let them be and close the door to them so they can’t impact enjoyment of the show. Leave them to their echo chamber. Block them and don’t engage.
Instead be loud and proud about what you enjoy about the show in your own spaces and around the general public, on official accounts, and when relaying your appreciation to the cast/producers/crew/writers. Create the art and write the stories and talk to people who enjoy what you do too and let’s get back to the relatively positive space we were in just after 7.04.
The only thing I think you should still do when it comes to any toxic people is call out when they attack real people like fans, fan artists and actors and writers. When they do things to bully and harass. I think it’s good to not let that slide. I’ll still call that out.
But anything else, it’s just not worth putting yourself in that space. Let them act like toxic children over a TV show and just feed their misery to each other.
And the few extreme people on the Buck & Tommy side, I hope you can take this onboard too. Cause at first I did get it. I still do get the want to defend yourself and to push back when you’re being bullied just cause you enjoy something. But the few who are basically the Buck & Tommy version of toxic buddies now are making it harder for us all. The negativity hypes up the negativity of others, especially when you’re seeking them out to argue with no cause. The whole thing is starting to annoy those in the fandom who are neutral and those who agree with you but feel like it’s going too far now and leaving a bad taste in the mouth.
I think it’s doing the ship a disservice to be exactly the same as toxic buddie shippers cause all it does is turn people off the ship like the toxic buddies are doing to the buddie ship. And personally I just want to enjoy the ship for however long it lasts and look back with positivity whenever things are done (be it soon or way down the line).
Look obviously you do you, I’m just saying my piece and you can ignore it but I really recommend just leaving them be beyond calling out the truly terrible, toxic stuff. For your own mental health and for everyone’s enjoyment of the show.

No one’s going to speak out against how buddies are treating Lou. It’s not going to happen so please stop wasting time expecting the cast to rally together in his defense. They’ve done the bare minimum with the LI’s in the past and I don’t see them shifting gears anytime soon. No shade to them or anything..
I hate this for Lou. He’s just a guy doing a job he loves and he’s being targeted for it. But he’s still online interacting and having fun. He’s in it, which means that it’s probably not as bothersome to him as it is for us.
The conversation online will always be whatever fits the narrative to make buddie seem like a possibility. That’s how it’s always been. Whenever one of their theories or conspiracies are debunked, they run with a different narrative, move the goal post, gaslight, and bully. Again, I hate this, but it’s not changing anytime soon.
But our hands aren’t tied. We can still show our support. Be positive and genuine and maybe just maybe one of the cast, crew, or writers will see and pass it along.
You don’t have to be mean to have fun guys
