The Magnus Archives never has researchers visit
having worked in multiple archives it's really fucking and extra creepy to me that the archive gets like visitors requesting old statements.
it's also a loss of comedic opportunities weird grad students, fiction authors, and genealogy-obsessed old men don't come asking for every statement about:
a. specific phenomena like ghost ships or haunted clocks
b. specific time period questions like if people were giving statements about wolves in the 30's
c. copies of famous historical figures' statements or events
d. anything with his last name on it, which you hope you don't find so you don't have to hear about how is great great grandpa fought in a war and started a company and in the case of tma idk sacrificed children and cows to be eaten by the sky.
#i'd maybe elias scares them away#or rather makes rosie give them mad directions so they wander the creepy halls#maybe the archive is mostly only for the institution and the library is more public#maybe it's just off the recorder and mostly sasha delt with it#maybe jonny and alex just never worked in an archive#don't even know you get to:#a: break fiction authors hearts with anachronisms#b. learn about weird cool projects people are researching#c. pretend to care about someone's great-grandpa long enough find find them items#d. so much Zyrtec you see ghost and still sneeze instead of screaming#magnus institute#the magnus archives fanart#magnus archives#the magnus archives#tma#jonathan sims#martin blackwood#sasha james#tim stoker#elias bouchard#jonah magnus#jon sims#jonny sims#martin k blackwood#alexander j newall

my favourite part of Death Note is that it's an excellent critique of how ridiculous and horrible police/policing ideology/punitive justice is when taken to its natural conclusion/extreme, but the old man writing it absolutely did not have that in mind -- as evidenced by the fact that he had the Good Normal Police take down This Unhinged Freak Who Thinks We Should Kill Criminals (tho tbf I do think it's a pointed critique of the death penalty - "it's still murder even if they're death row criminals" like it's not spelled out but it's pretty obvious the death penalty is murder too then. But the author kinda gives up on acknowledging the normal "justice" system isn't 100% prefect by the end). like I'm not 100% certain but I do think Light's dad was just made a policeman for plot convenience & possibly to explain why criminals take up so much space in Light's head, not because the Kira's ideology could only be developed by the child of a cop. (L would have used that as evidence it was the case.) Also the author said Mr. Cop Father is good.
#i have this idea that children natrually take more extreme positions than their parents b/c parenst will hide their misgivings when they#think the position they nominally believe in is the right one. esp if it relates to their job.#death note#light yagami#Soichiro Yagami#yagami light#death note analysis#yes this is in contrast to the post about 'god' i just reblogged. wanted to make it clear i see light and his father#as having essentially the same ideology. i mean his dad disagrees with kira but like. light literally got it all from him.#light who wants to make his father proud and deicdes his dad doesn't understand his own ideology when he rejects kira...#okay but legit i think the reason why kira upset those international cops is because THEY couldn't be hte ones to kill the criminals? like#it was only because Kira was an outside force not part of the institutions? that's kidna the vibe i got at the beginning of the manga#i said this#i think i might hae spelling critique the british way? not sure how else to spell it tho. i always put the 'u' in 'favourite' btw#chem's death note arc#this has been in my head for like months now but only got the motivation to type it out bc of that last post lol

inspired by @bookwyrminspiration, since picker wheels are for making decisions, I've put 160 of the unread books on my TBR list (max 3 per author) on a wheel
note: almost entirely m/m romance. i think there's one each of f/f and nb/m, and like two m/f.
#polls#tumblr polls#books#m/m romance#seriously if you've read the book you get please tell me in the tags#i wanna knowww#these were the unread books in my break glass list aka break glass in case of emotional support emergency list#so they're stuff a) I've been highly anticipating b) highly recommended to me or c) from authors i trust not to upset me#i had to institute the no more than 3 rule or there'd've been genuinely 9+ books from some of these authors

so my fear rn is that my paper i am writing for this class is legitimately a Good Paper. i am making Interesting Points. but this is a PHILOSOPHY class and if you don't talk enough about the philosophy you get like highest possible grade a low C. and this is 30% of my grade. and i have no concept on if i am talking enough about the philosophy because to be honest i am talking about it but i also am going into a lot of historical information etc. it's more applying philosophy not explaining it, centrally. so i am trying to just finish a draft so i can edit it and submit it by 9pm but i am like literally nauseous over doing this because i am sooooo fucking scared i fucked this up.
#my first final for this class (which wasn't like The Best but was alright) was very much philosophical understandings of carcerality#the second paper was pulling from some video game media but was arguing how that media explores#the way that the oppressor oppressed relationship exists#this time im talking about the institution of marriage and how it is philosophically interrelated to capitalism#however i am talking about the marriage institution SO MUCH. to explain my examples#like i don't know if i am actually reaching the philosophy fast enough#and i am like. so scared i can physically feel that in my body#which is crazy because. who cares. the lowest grade ive gotten in this class thus far is an A- i need a B+ to get an A#but i don't like NEED an A. i would love that because i care so much about this class but like whatever#it's just. if i get a C i feel like i have to die. you know

Just! Yeah! Can we pls not fall into the ~old fashioned mental health care was so fucked up bc they did horrible things to NORMAL WOMEN, (not just freaks who deserve institutionalized torture)~ trap like pls I am begging!! Modern psychiatric care is also rooted in the same saneist and ableist annd racist and misogynist bullshit, just dressed up in a nicer outfit. Institutionalization is incarceration, and people suffer enormously in psychiatric hospitals at the hands of horrible power hungry staff and also approved treatments every single day. Autonomy in mental health care is not a given, and we need to be very careful about assuming that non consensual torture does not happen anymore in mental hospitals. I think it’s important we discuss it, and I am eager to hear/see more of what Taylor has to say (I think her bringing it up is suuuper reasonable and a very ripe creative world for her to explore so I’m not saying nobody should talk about it). Like. Just. The assumptions. Pls. Can’t believe this is a post I’m making on my swiftie tumblr but here we are!
#Like I know nobody says it like this and they don’t mean it like this but that is the impact of what they are saying#Seen it a couple times already in like 5 minutes#And this is not me saying that mental health treatment is all bad. It’s not. The key is about consent and autonomy and community care.#Tw: institutions#Tw: mental hospital#Tw: ableism#tw: psych ward#C

Hey fam! I'm doing some preliminary research for a collection of essays on mental health depictions in film & tv with a focus on personality, identity, dissociative, psychotic, and schizophrenia-spectrum disorders.
I know pickings are slim in this regard, especially with good or positive representation, so I'd like to hear from the community all of your personal headcanons for characters who could be affected by any of these disorders Because You Said So.
All genres, ratings, regions, and languages welcome! As long as I can find it somewhere with English subtitles I'm open to anything from anywhere. As an example, here's a few of the characters I've selected to get me started:
Catra - Netflix's She-Ra
Jinx - Arcane: League of Legends
Amanda Young - Saw franchise
Thomas Shelby - Peaky Blinders
Jennifer Check - Jennifer's Body
If you have your own headcanons for these characters or other characters in their stories feel free to drop them too. And if you have any suggestions for characters that are canonically diagnosed with any of the above, I'm also very interested in checking those out whether it's good or bad rep.
Reblogs are appreciated to help this reach as many people as possible!

Astronomy Daily - The Podcast: S03E166 Welcome to Astronomy Daily, your source for the latest space and Astronomy news. I'm your host, Anna, and we've got an exciting episode lined up for you today. We'll be exploring some fascinating developments in the world of space and Astronomy that are sure to captivate your imagination. Highlights: - Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-Atlas): Astronomers are eagerly tracking this comet, which could shine as brightly as the North Star this fall. Discovered in early C/2023.A3, it's captured the attention of both professional astronomers and space enthusiasts. If it survives its close encounter with the sun on September 27, it could rival the spectacular Comet McNaught of 2007. - ESA's Luna Facility: The European Space Agency and German Aerospace Center have unveiled Luna, a lunar analog facility near Cologne, Germany. This 700-square-meter hall filled with simulated lunar regolith will provide crucial training for future astronauts, including those in NASA's Artemis program. - NASA Artemis II Crew in Iceland: NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen have been undergoing geology field training in Iceland. This unique landscape closely resembles the lunar surface, helping the crew prepare for the challenges of lunar exploration. - China's Sea Launch of Smart Dragon-3: China successfully launched the Smart Dragon-3 rocket from a floating platform, carrying eight remote sensing satellites into sun-synchronous orbit. This sea-based launch demonstrates flexibility and could open up new possibilities for future missions. - Potential for Life on Venus: Recent research suggests that some of life's fundamental building blocks might survive in Venus's harsh environment. Scientists discovered that certain lipids can withstand exposure to concentrated sulfuric acid, challenging our assumptions about the solvents necessary for life. - Revolutionary Space Propulsion: Scientists are testing a new propulsion system known as Super Mag Drive, which could use any type of metal as fuel. This technology could allow spacecraft to refuel by harvesting minerals from asteroids or distant moons, opening up new frontiers in space exploration.
