Kaeya, despite being a sickly and gentle child, was his own kind of nightmare for Crepus and the other Dawn Winery staff.

See, Diluc is prone to mischief and chaos, dragging along his younger brother and a couple of other children into his plots and messes.

But Kaeya? Kaeya is the type to end up in the most random, and I do mean most random, of places. He would vanish for several hours, only to be found in an unexpected location such as, oh let's say that one time, he was found eating fruit with some friendly hilichurls...IN LIYUE.

He was such a curious soul that would easily get distracted by the wonders of Teyvat, but since he is so silent in both words and movements, whoever is watching over him would lose sight of him just as quickly.

He has caused several search parties in his youth, only for people to find out he was following a seelie to a treasure chest or napping with a young wolf cub in Wolvendom.

Crepus swears that Kaeya and Diluc are competing on who can give him gray hairs the fastest (so far, Diluc is winning, but Kaeya sure is catching up with every scream of panic from a designated babysitter and Diluc)

Continuing from the previous cartoon, St. Joan of Arc's sleepover scheme ends in DISASTER?! (Yes, this still really happened.)

JOKE-OGRAPHY:

1. The Source: This cartoon is based off of characters and events mentioned in St. Joan of Arc's trial. Here are the relevant passages (translated by W. S. Scott): "Asked what [Catherine de La Rochelle] said to her, [Jeanne the Maid] answered that this Catherine said [...] that a woman appeared [to her], a white lady, dressed in cloth of gold [...]. [Jeanne] asked Catherine if this Lady appeared every night; and if so, [Jeanne] would sleep with [Catherine to see her]. And [Jeanne] did so, but kept awake till midnight; saw nothing, and then went to sleep. And when morning came, she asked if the Lady had appeared. And [Catherine] answered that she had come, but [Jeanne] was asleep, and [Catherine] had not been able to wake her."

2. Explanation: Continuing from the last cartoon, St. Joan arrives at Catherine's for their sleepover. She wants to stay awake to see if Catherine's telling the truth about her nightly apparition, but she only stays awake until midnight. The next morning, Catherine tells her the White Lady appeared sometime after Joan fell asleep.

3. Historical / Fiction: The main gist of this story -- Joan's sleepover / stake-out with Catherine -- is historically accurate, based on Joan's account during her trial. In this cartoon, I fill in some gaps and take a few artistic liberties for fun's sake. Here are some of those liberties:

Pierronne: The third wheel in this rivalry, Pierronne the Breton, is not mentioned in the actual sleepover story, but I included her in this cartoon because I wanted a third character to offset the tension with a positive naïveté.

Midnight: In the original account, Joan says she stayed awake until midnight, saw nothing, then went to sleep. This could mean that she chose midnight as her limit and deliberately went to sleep after that, or it could mean that she meant to stay awake longer but could only manage to stay awake until midnight. In this cartoon, I went with the second interpretation, because it flavors Joan's failure to stay awake as a failure of ability, not a failure of judgment. To me, that makes Catherine's claim that the White Lady appeared shortly after all the more devastating, but I really could've gone either way.

Catherine: At the end of Joan's account of the story, Catherine tells her that the White Lady appeared after Joan had gone to sleep, and that Catherine had even tried and failed to wake Joan when the Lady arrived. Though it sounds like a weak lie in the actual story, in this cartoon, I flavored it as cruel gloating, which I think feeds into their rivalry a little better.

Auraugust Day 5: Safe Harbor

Akira's heart was stricken by all the people, young and old, that now just...did not exist. Hades was disgusted by how Alexandria had interfered with the cycle of death. And Hythlodaeus was unsettled by the callous use of souls as if they were potions.

I was actually curious about Nastasia’s dream bat origins if they’re still applicable? 👀

I saw an older piece a while ago featuring/mentioning that Nastasia was a dream bat from Pi’illo Island and I was curious to know a little more about it

i'm not sure what exactly to say about it besides, yeah, she's the same species as Antasma and Cackletta (casually ignoring the rare NPC in superstar saga that implies Cack is Queen Bean's sister, it wasn't in the remake SO)

dream bats hail from Pi'illo Island. as the name suggests, they eat dreams and have related powers, but they're also shapeshifters. they don't need to eat dreams to LIVE, but they need to eat dreams to perform any magic. they receive more power from more imaginative dreams, but it can affect their mental state the same way as the host.

when they're not in bat form, they can take on a larger, spectre-like form. otherwise they can copy other beings for limited amounts of time. their bite is largely harmless aside from it inflicting sleep.

the Pi'illos hunted the dream bats to keep them from eating dreams, which they view as sacred. this led Cackletta to leave the island entirely to survive. She wound up in Bean Bean Kingdom and starting mimicking being Beanish, though she has to wear a long robe to hide her lack of legs. Antasma resorted to feeding on nightmares since the Pi'illos defended those less, and that's why he's a little crazy.

Nastasia stayed on the island and was eventually trapped - then everyone got petrified by the Dark Stone. She was just about running dry when Bleck appeared. Smitten, she used up the last of her transformative magic to take on the appearance of a Tribe of Darkness member (gaining legs is HARD), then used magic obtained from Bleck's dreams to keep the rest of her arsenal (i.e. hypnosis)

[I.D. four images of a pencil comic featuring jay and tim from marble hornets. the comic starts with jay hunched over and angrily editing while tim lays on the bed in the background staring at him. he asks "you doin' okay?" an agitated jay replies "is there even a point to that question anymore?" tim makes a very unamused face and responds "ok you're pissy, got it. but this is different than usual, what gives?" jay curls his arms in on himself and looks to the side saying "nothing it- it's stupid." tim, now sitting up, prods "jay..." jay covers his face with his hands and exclaims "UGH well thanks to you i haven't been binding and i can feel my chest too much and its'-UGH!" tim begins to get off the bed with a concerned look. he approaches jay and rests a hand on his shoulder with a solemn look, saying "I- that sucks, man." jay is still looking away, one hand to his face. he then glances to tim asking "yeah, don't suppose you know anything that might help?" tim makes a blank face as he has a sudden recollection and then answers "i.. might have an idea.." while blushing and looking to the side. jay turns to him and asks "oh yeah?" tim brings a hand up to rub the back of his neck and nervously answers "yeah just- don't freak out?" he then looks to the side and says "turn back around" through this jay looks at tim confusedly but complies. tim pulls up a chair behind jay, who's still hunched on a stool. tim positions himself behind jay and begins to reach around as jay lets out a quiet "uh..." tim then wraps his arms around jay, right under his chest. jay sits up with a shocked expression and thinks a very large "UH." while jay keeps a shocked and heavily blushing expression, tim rests his chin on jay's shoulder, looking down with a slightly embarrassed expression and saying "uh-yeah. i found this helped me a lot before my surgery. i can stop though." jay looks to the side with a wobbly smile and replies "no it-its fine. it's a good distraction. but uh, since you're here, mind helping me crack these codes?" they stay like that and idly chat for a panel when it comes back to tim looking over jay's shoulder and saying "... i'm sorry you were feeling shitty but i'm glad you're taking better care of yourself." this flips to jay's side where he smiles and says "... me too. thanks for looking out for me." they continue on, a panel zooming out to view them from a window, part of a hooded figure on the side leaning on the wall and seemingly humming pleasantly. back to tim who says "hmm, could be-" when a sleepy jay lolls his head into frame. tim turns to look at him and with a sweet smile says "let's call it quits for now, huh?" jay tiredly responds "mn, ok." end I.D.]

A lot of strange things can happen when kindred get caught up with Pentex. Temporary partial possession by the Wyrm which subsequently splits off to form a perfect day-walking doppelganger is never an expected outcome though.

Reid's doppelganger is simultaneously him and an incarnation of the Wyrm gone rogue. Thankfully, this guy destroying Pentex and rebuilding it from the ground up with the intention of killing god is not Reid's problem.
