Chin grabs between Fadel and Style just have a very specific kind of feeling to them.

Whumper grabbing Whumpee by the chin, steel fingers digging into their bruised cheeks eliciting a pitiful grunt of pain, yanking their bloodied face close enough to kiss 😌

Whumper grabbing Whumpee by the chin, forcing them to look at them.
Only for Whumpee to spit at Whumper.
That pissed off Whumper, and that meant they would torture Whumpee again, but Whumpee had a triumphant smile on their face after they reeled back from the assault.

Single or Double Chin Grab
@Happy_Neighborhood Project colleagues Scott Schaefer and Michael Schmidt display single and double chin grab gestures to convey their full attention during @JanetteGhedotte’s @AccurateBodyLanguage in-depth analysis of #GabbyPetito.
Scott sees the value and competitive advantage of detecting, decoding, and understanding body language in sales and business transactions.

I am COMPLETELY NORMAL ABOUT THIS TROPE.
Like. It can say SO MUCH about the power dynamics and relationship. Is it a single finger under the chin to tilt the head up? Is it a rough grab? Is it about surveying the state of the whumpee, or controlling them outright?
How does the whumpee respond? Are they defiant, and if so, how? Do they struggle away? Do they glare the whumper down? Do they spit in their face?
Just. SO MANY OPTIONS AND THEYRE ALL GOOD

Jean Grabbing Jeremy's Chin: A Saga of Character Development
1st Chin Grab
Tumblr media
This is Jean setting a boundary, someone who's never been allowed to set a boundary before. He's unsure if this boundary will be listened to, thinking he needs to become physically threatening to ensure it. At the same time, he's trusting Jeremey to be a person he can even attempt to set a boundary with at all.
2nd Chin Grab
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is more of a causal touch, Jean comfortable in doing so, but it serves a purpose, or more so a correction. A touch to shift Jeremy's attention away from Jean's pain, to ask him to look away, a dismissal of his own pain. Again, he thinks he needs to ensure Jeremy's attention to get his point to come across. But when Jeremy responds with obvious care, Jean loses track of his dismissal, releasing Jeremy.
3rd Chin Grab
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again, a causal touch that serves a purpose, but Jean has more focus on what that is. This isn't the practiced dismissal of his pain from his time in the Ravens, but something Jean has thought out. This is a showage of Jean's trust to Jeremy rather than an attempt to distract Jeremy away, allowing Jeremy in.
4th Chin Grab
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They've already long since established this causal touch of the chin, it's something familiar to them. Jean knows it gets Jeremy's attention, and so he uses it to ground Jeremy in this moment, an anchor in his panic, as well as an assessment of how Jeremy is feeling. Because if Bryson is a threat to Jeremy in any way, Jean wants to know so he can get rid of the problem, and he knows that Jeremy isn't going to vocalize Bryson as a problem so he has to judge based on his face.
5th Chin Grab
Tumblr media
Jeremy is the kind of person that refuses to show anyone his face if it shows any kind of distress; he never wants to address that he's anything less than okay, feeling he doesn't deserve comfort. And again, Jean knows this by now, using chin grabs to see in full Jeremy's distress, to get Jeremy to let him in; a shift from Jeremy trying to get Jean to let him in.
6th Chin Grab
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again, Jean knows the meaning of Jeremy turning his face away; he wants to hide, and Jean isn't going to let him, he wants Jeremy to allow himself vulnerability just as Jeremy created a space that allowed Jean the same. He isn't allowing Jeremy to invert into himself. Because Jeremy promised Jean something, and Jean has such faith in Jeremy and his promises, knowing that if he brought it up Jeremy would immediately concede. Overall, he just completely trusts Jeremy, trusting this is just Jeremy having a moment and not him breaking his promises, just needing a quick, grounding reminder. Because that's what Jean touching Jeremy's chin so often means; it's grounding both Jean and Jeremy, a reassurance of vulnerability on both ends.
7th Chin Grab
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He wants him. That's it.
Really though, this is a shift in Jean's normal chin grabbing. Yes, it's to ensure Jeremy's attention, but the normal intentions of that are now different. Every single time Jean touches Jeremy's chin there's a clear purpose, an intent, what Jean would consider a necessity. But Jean himself after this realizes how it accidently came across, how unplanned this move was. It was a thoughtless grab for Jeremy, to hold onto him, likely brought on by the memories of what he remembers Faser did to Jeremy, another time Jean's control slipped.

thinking about…
The world around you had faded out ages ago. Crosslegged on the couch, eyes glued between the pages of the book that occupied your lap, buried under a mountain of blankets.
With everything tuned out, you failed to hear a deep voice call your name from the room over. The soft padding of footsteps soon joined the calling as the sounds slowly got closer.
A soft chuckle escaped his lips as he lent on the door frame, eyes scanning over the room and landing on you. A soft look graced his features, one he only wore around you.
The simple domestic scene before him had his heart soaring and melting all at once.
After a minute of watching you, he pushes himself off the doorway and further into the room, his body craving to be near you. Closer to you in any way.
Towering over your curled up frame, he lets out a soft whisper of your name. Daring not to shatter the soft moment you were indulged in.
And still you don’t respond.
Hands itching with need, he careful grabs your chin between his thumb and forefinger. Slowly tilting your head up, large doe eyes peering through thick lashes meeting his gaze. He now has the attention he so desperately desired.
And, god, did he know what he wanted to do with it
