March Monthly Roundup
A belated St. Patrick’s Day, and Happy Easter if you celebrate! Sadly, I had a busy March, so this month’s rec list is short and sweet!
BATFAM Too Close to Rotting to be Alive by alicecrow6 (gen), <1k, Damian Wayne-centric, Angst The thoughts of a rotting corpse not yet placed in his grave.
pull up the ladder when the flood comes by mintchocochips (gen), 4k, Cass Cain-centric Black Bat is operating in Hong Kong. Bruce is dead. A hell of a lot of people are dead. Cass is trying her damnedest not to drown. She doesn't want anyone else to drown either. She just wants to be good. She is maybe, just maybe, not okay.
charity by Valkrin (gen), 7k, Different First Meeting, Bad Parent!Drakes The biggest downside of being adopted by Bruce Wayne is putting up with rich people events, including one where Jason will be in a room with a bunch of rich kids for a couple very long hours while Bruce goes to the adults' meeting. Jason is ready for a very bad time but the Drake kid listens to him from the start and keeps backing up Jason's ideas even though they've never met. Jason warms up to Tim Drake long before Mad Hatter tries to take over the meeting and Tim backs him up again.
the picture frames have changed and so has your name by Zahri (gen), 24k, Case Fic, Hurt/Comfort There’s something wrong with Dick. Tim thought everything was getting back to normal. Bruce was alive and back in their timeline, the Birds of Prey were once again operating out of Gotham, Dick had the city well under control as Batman and even Damian had been less obnoxious than usual. And then during a firefight at a warehouse by the docks, Tim was almost hit by a flying boomerang. And Dick never noticed. When something is wrong with your big brother, who else do you turn to but your big sisters?
Fatherhood for Dummies by Havendance WIP, (gen), 6k, Batman Comics, POV Jack Drake When Tim runs away to No Man's Land, it takes Jack far too long to realize that he's gone. Once he does though, he'll do anything he can to get him back.
THE WITCHER Flung to Catch a Star by inexplicifics WIP, (Eskel/Geralt/Jaskier), 63k, Accidental Warlord AU      Morvran Voorhis, first-ranked prince of Nilfgaard, has been sent to Kaer Morhen on a diplomatic mission. Or: Perhaps the trio is inevitable everywhere, but in this variation, none of them are in Gryffindor, and they do their best to build things anyway.
CROSSOVER While You Were Missing by basil_coffee_and White Collar x Batman (Jason Todd/Roy Harper), 23k, Accidental Baby Acquisition, Jason!Neal A familiar redheaded child darts across the bullpen with a shout of “PAPA!” and barrels into Jason’s arms. “Lian–” He breathes. qocc oc challenge - day one (aug 20): a brand new plot bunny for the witcher
Livitha Aep Dend — The Sworn Sword. The distant cousin of Emhyr var Emreis, she is a warrior by blood and serves as his sworn protector. Livitha played a pivotal role in the attack and eventual fall of Cintra alongside her lover, Cahir. Once, Petra is brought to their side, she becomes the young princess' defacto parental figure/mentor. She is blindly loyal to the cause of The White Flame. Petronella of Cintra — The Spare Cub. Petronella Elen Adalia Calanthe, best know as Petra of Cintra, is the fraternal twin sister of Cirilla of Cintra. As the mirror of her father, she was often cast out and disfavored in place of her sister. Due to this, she became filled with spite and was easily manipulated into joining the cause of The White Flame by her friend the court mage, Vincen, despite not knowing it's true meaning. Petra is used by Emhyr to help track down, Ciri. Vincen of Blaviken — The Mage. The formidable apprentice of Vilgefortz, Vincen was best known for offering his services to the court of Cintra. Unbeknownst to anyone, his true loyalties rested with Nilfgaard and its new Emperor. His task was to gain Princess Petra's trust enough to have her surrender to Emhyr, one that he easily succeeded in. He is not loyal entirely loyal to Nilfgaard or the cause of The White Flame. More so, he is merely enticed by the idea of power.

2024 FRC - February🖤
Tumblr media
Hello Friends! Happy March! It's my favourite month of the year and things are going to be BUSY at my house - so I'm not sure if that means more fic reading or less. We shall see.
Things in the @fanfic-reading-challenge are progressing nicely. If you’re looking for a fun way to get out of your comfort zone, you should come check it out.
I decided to reread the entire collection of @ozmathegreatand's work. I'm about half-way now and it's been a delight. If you're looking for a fun Shakespeare themed fic full of hijinks and hilarity - you should check out Violent Delights (Wenvier - T 4/4). It features and absolutely obsessive Wednesday (she has a shrine!) and a pining but oblivious Xavier - and Romeo+Juliet. It's fun!
Alternately, you could check out the Hearts Wild series by KNSkns - an alternate view on what would have happened in Star Trek: Discovery if Ash Tyler had come to the future with the crew instead of staying back. Ash is my favourite character and I miss him. So this soothes my broken heart. It's Ashburn - 3 fics. Canon Divergent mid-S2.
Or if you wanted to stray into The Witcher fic - check out Missed Connections by @powerofadyingsun - a Modern AU that deals with royalty with a side of ptsd thrown in. SO good. It was my first Cahir/Cirilla fic but it won't be my last because it was wonderful and I was VERY emotional reading it.
And lastly - the folks over at @allthevmff have been doing an amazing job - because I read an abnormally large number of Veronica/Logan fics this month at their recommendation. A wonderful story that I'd never read before was Inevitable by snuffybaby (LoVe - 5/5) - set pre-series. What would have happened if there had been a witness to Lilly's murder? Well this story tells you and it's super super good. If you're hankering for a VM fic - give this one a try.
Anyway - the year’s just begun. I have lots of tasks yet to complete - so if you have a fic that you’d like to recommend - let me know! 🖤

The story so far...
1 . "I recognize him," Cirilla says, referring to the painted face of her Grandfather, "But I don't think I've ever seen her before."
Morvran follows her guesture to the woman depicted next to the late Emperor. "That is Emperor Fergus' wife, Empress Mathilde."
"Oh, is it! So tell me, dear future consort," she says with a sharp smile, "If the position of spouse to the Imperator is such an honor, why is this the first time I've ever seen a painting of this woman?"
Morvran, well trained to get straight to the point by now, simply tsks.
"As usual, princess, your family likes to make things unnecissarily complicated. The issue, as it so often does, originates with your father, who is the son of Emperor Fergus, but not the son of Empress Mathilde. Which, of course, makes having too many pictures of her around a bit... awkward."
https://www.tumblr.com/laurikarauchscat/731093866514628608/laurikas-verse-part-1?source=share
2. [Morvran starts narrating from this point on]
Emperor Fergus and Empress Mathilde only ever had one child.
Princess Cecilia.
She was born after a series of miscarriages, a very difficult pregnancy, and a near doubly fatal birth.
People say it was due to the Emperor's soft heart that another pregnancy was never attempted by the Imperial couple, but I believe the truth may be that the emperor never saw the need for another child.
He had decided from the moment she was born that Cecilia would be his successor.
___
Princess Cecilia was betrothed and wed at fourteen, to quell unrest and whispers of insurrection.
The marriage was not a happy one.
___
At sixteen, the Princess fell very ill.
Numerous mages and healers were tasked with finding a cure for her - yet despite all the riches Fergus could throw at them, none succeeded in curing his daughter...
https://www.tumblr.com/laurikarauchscat/731365743717990400/laurikas-verse-2?source=share
3. A month after Cecilia had first fallen ill, the last mage who was called in to cure her, mournfully proclaimed: "the Princess will not see the light of a new dawn."
That night, under the shadow cast by this mage's hanged corpse, the Emperor met with a woman.
Allegedly, he had been expecting her. Summoned her, even.
You should know that in the intelligence reports from the time, the word "summoned" is used in a rather untraditional fashion.
The somewhat hysterical palace staff seemed to believe the woman, who called herself Àva, was a demon, whom the Emperor had summoned in his desperation.

Love Interest: Trystan Thorne
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Family:
NOTE: I know I promised to follow the actual CoP MC's background and be normal but ofc I found a way to unnecessarily connect characters and bring back old MC and OCs I didn't use so enjoy imao
Distant Maternal Great Grandmother: Raine Nightbloom Distant Maternal Great Grandfather: Tyril Starfury Distant Maternal Grandmother: Eclipse Sarenya Nightfury
Maternal Grandfather: Beckham D'Souza Maternal Grandmother: Londyn Wolfe (Pia Wurtzbach-Jauncey) Mother: Diamond Wolfe Maternal Uncle: Nasriyan Wolfe Paternal Great Grandmother: Vanadey Silva (Warrior Nun) Father: Jacques Rózsa Paternal Uncle: Thomas Rózsa
Goddaughter: Cirilla Watanabe-Webster
Pet: Paris (Former Stray Dog)
Quick Background: (subject to change)
Diamond and her younger brother Nasriyan were raised in a life of crime. She's part of the largest and wealthiest American mafia crime families and, of course, despises any kind of law enforcement.
One day, she accidentally bumped into a man while waiting in line to get coffee at a cafe, where she was supposed to meet a contact. The man she bumped into would be Jacques Rózsa, who would later be revealed as a new police officer. That same night, she met him again at the same bar, and it felt like fate.
They spent more time together in secret to avoid her family's prying eyes, and eventually fell deeply in love with each other. Diamond felt super conflicted because interacting with Jacques clashed with the beliefs she was raised with, but she admired how genuine Jacques felt about wanting to help others. She eventually eloped with him, had a small wedding with only a few trusted guests, and moved back to his hometown in New York. Here, they opened The Drunk Tank and stayed under the radar.
Keep in mind, that Jacques still wasn't aware that his wife was part of a crime family he had been assigned to arrest. The case always fascinated him but has been unsolved largely due to their influence and power within higher-ranking officials. He became extremely passionate about the case and was determined to be the officer to solve it. Somewhere along the line, they had Haelyn and they were all super happy.
But then, Diamond's brother Nasriyan finds out they're in New York, and they have an ultimatum: do certain tasks for the family (she isn't officially registered on any wanted lists) and he'll turn a blind eye. So she did these tasks and slowly got back into the life of crime and violence she was happy to escape from.
Jacques eventually connects the dots and confronts Diamond's parents without knowing they're related. He knows the Wolfe leaders had a daughter, but she didn't seem relevant as she either died or ran away. He ends up having to kill the parents, but her younger brother escapes and lives on the run. Now, the whole Wolfe family is in shambles. Diamond realizes she could never live a content idyllic life and leaves her husband and daughter to go back. She couldn't bear to tell Jacques she had lied about her family history and left him a letter saying that she had to prioritize her duty etc. Jacques and Thomas were both heartbroken and lied to Haelyn so she wouldn't have to feel any guilt.
Haelyn lives a relatively normal life until her dad was killed when she was 13 supposedly by her own uncle, revealing Diamond's darkest secret in Jacques's last moments. Diamond eventually finds him and sends him to some confinement where he cannot escape. When she returns in Book 3, she and her daughter work together to track down Jacques's killer
Romance Route: (subject to change)
A) Book 1 and Book 2 Events B) Trystan is coronated and does not abdicate the throne. This means he is still temporarily engaged to Princess Jia; Haelyn felt the wisest decision would be to break up before the situation gets messy a lil too late but okay C) A crime happens (ex. someone stole royal jewels) and he hires the best private detective he knows and trusts to solve the case D) She solves the case and heads back as quickly as she can because it hurts being around someone she would never be able to be with. When she gets back, her mother reappears and sets off the Book 3 plot of finding the truth about Haelyn's father's death E) Trystan hears about this through Luke and Ruby and flies out immediately (Marguerite joins in later). He says he has business to attend to in America and says he'll be back in time for engagement planning F) They solve the case and Trystan heads back, inviting the whole gang to the engagement. At the last minute, like what happens in the Book 2 finale, he reveals his true feelings and abdicates the throne. Princess Jia didn't want to be married and Trystan wasn't interested in their arranged marriage or the Drakovian throne so it was a win-win situation G) They all live happily ever after THE END
Trivia:
She's never been in a romantic relationship. Ever. She's been interested in people before but she's never officially dated since she was super busy and not the best at initiating/maintaining close long-term relationships. Trystan was her first boyfriend and last boyfriend
She is fluent in English, Spanish, Italian, and eventually proficient in Drakovian and Filipino
She’s left handed and sketches in her free time, or whenever he’s having trouble solving a case

TASK 001 :  LIVING SITUATION
“THE QUEEN’S CASTLE is hidden in the depths of the forest and cannot be entered by anyone that did not receive an invitation from the queen herself.” The stone castle can be seen in the distance from every corner of the realm built by ancient faeries centuries past; however, stepping inside Cirilla’s chambers feels as if you have entered a different place entirely. The room holds an ode to harmony with the environment—the stone replaced with wood, indoor waterways trickle along the floor from the front door to the main room, rays of sunshine beam through skylights during the day ( revealing the stars at night ). An elevated round bed with cream drapes sits in the corner, a round enchanted mirror to the side, a bath with red petals and a pool of emerald water infused with healing properties wraps around it. Through the rounded door way leads to a swing overlooking an illusion of water where the Queen sits to forget and get lost within the endless ocean.

Do you have any favorite Witcher mods? For example, this hairstyle of Regis can you tell me what kind of mod?
https://at.tumblr.com/northernolddragon/710088796802301952/7fb4r2qz4i9e
Hello, dear anonymous. I don't have many mods. And I think some of them are quite standard. I will highlight just a few.
As for Regis's hairstyle, it is just a priority and attracts my attention, as soon as it came into my field of vision. Extremely aesthetic bow at the back - so sophisticated. And a falling strand. Of course, I adore Regis' vanilla hairstyle, but sometimes, it needs some variety, so I change Emiel's hairstyle to suit the situation or at will. In addition, don't forget that the vampire is still regenerating and the hair would be restored one way or another in such an aristocratic version or in any other. It seemed to me that the author is quite popular in the field of modding and it is easy to find him, since there are very few mods for Emiel's hairstyle: @witcherscreenshotsdump.
From this talanted author, I also like Cirilla's book hairstyle and her scar. Not to mention Dettlaff's shirt and Yennefer's set of clothes and curly hair. Don't forget about the book image of Jaskier, for which you can also find blond hair from this author.
I can highlight the retexture of Geralt 'White Wolf from Rivia', as I fucking love the detail on all the scars and the pallor of the skin, which creates a more different look. The White Wolf becomes, indeed, a White Wolf. I went through enough retextures to stop at this particular option. I also like - Brutal Face - due to the fact, that Geralt with this retexture looks like, that witcher from cinematic trailers. Used it only once. But she was remembered, besides, is quite famous.
If you want to make Dettlaff a little younger, then a retexture by @i-be-busy-witchering. I don't really like it, when retextures deprive the individual details of the characters - scars, moles. In this work, everything is in place. I used it more, than once for screenshots and in the game it periodically returns to higher priorities.
There is such a variety of mods on the Nexus that it is impossible to list them. I think you should just sort through them and experiment with each one you like, following the appropriate instructions and not forgetting your version of the game. I do it. Sometimes, I experiment, for fun, on my own with the help of appropriate programs. This is an educationally entertaining diversity.
Of course, I would not mind doing modding myself, if I had more time for this difficult task. Sometimes, ideas appear in my head, that I want to implement, but the lack of time and experience deprive me of this opportunity.
Thank you!

_______________________________________
Run. Faster. Run!
Yelling and swearing filled her ears, but she couldn't stop running. Not now. She was so close. She could almost feel the freedom.
"Y/N, please, stop! You know you love me! Stop! I'll never hurt you again, I promise!" - The last words she heard before jumping of the castle walls.
Freedom.
And then – pain.
Of broken bones. And broken heart.
Y/N sat up on her bed, breathing heavily. Those dreams kept waking her up at least once a month, even after all this time. She hid her face into her palms and cried out quietly.
○○○○
"Merigold, you didn't mention you're bringing backup."
Triss closes the door after Y/N walks in, shaking off snowflakes from her coat and then turns to a hall full of witchers.
"Hello to you too, Lambert." she answers with a half grin. Witchers approach them, curiously watching a woman in dark green coat standing next to Triss. Y/N nervously clenches her fists, trying not to touch the sword hanging from her side.
"This is Y/N. She's a mercenary. I hire her from time to time, to help me out on my journeys." Triss explains. Geralt approaches Y/N first.
"This is Geralt. He summoned me." Triss tells her, gently smiling at Geralt.
"Y/N. I won't be making any problems. I'm just here strictly for-"
"Let me guess, business?" Geralt asks, slightly tilting his head. Y/N nods with a serious look on her face. Her paths crossed with witchers sometimes, so this wasn't the first witcher she encountered but being in their home was completely different. Y/N knew what was her task when Triss hired her. And witchers weren't the part of it. So, she relaxed a bit. Not completely because she didn't trust them, but she trusted Triss. And that was enough.
"Geralt, let our guests settle in their rooms while we prepare dinner." the oldest witcher, that Triss introduced as Vesemir, patted Geralt's shoulder. Geralt turned around and followed Vesemir without a word.
"Let me escort you to your rooms then, ladies." another voice joins the conversation. Y/N turns to her right. A man, just a few steps away from her, in a red leather jacket and hat in his hands, slowly approaches them.
"Greetings, Jaskier." Triss greets him with a soft smile.
"Triss. Doing Geralt another favour, I see." he raises his eyebrows, but still smiles at the young sorceress.
"Just show us our rooms, bard." Triss gives him a warning look, but still a small smile escapes her lips.
"You didn't introduce me to your new friend yet!" he protests, turning his look towards Y/N. He doesn't bother to hide his admiration but openly stares at her.
"Not quite a friend. I'm a mercenary. The name's Y/N." she clarifies. Jaskier's lips part, but Triss decided she had enough.
"Julian, please, we are tired and cold, show us our rooms. You'll have a chance to show off your charms." Triss interrupts him. Jaskier looks at her, visibly offended.
"Fine. Follow me." he says and starts walking towards the big dark doors on other side of the hall.
Y/N gives Triss an odd look.
"Show off?"
"Don't ask." Triss begs. Y/N frows a bit but quietly follows an odd man.
The next day was quite boring for Y/N. She had nothing to do since Triss went to training grounds with Geralt and little girl called Cirilla. Y/N wanted to be imperceptible so she sneaked out into the castle gardens. Castle full of witchers wasn't exactly her type of fun company.
It stopped snowing and the sun shyly peeked behind the clouds. It wasn't warm but a short walk couldn't hurt anyone. Y/N enters a small garden, and immediately realizes she’s not alone. The familiar face turns around as soon as he heard the steps approaching.
"Lady Y/N! Didn't expect to find you here!" Jaskier tells her, lowering the lute he held. He was sitting down on a concrete bench, with lute in his hands and hat on his head. His face lightens as Y/N approaches him.
Y/N looks at lute. "So, you're the bard Triss tells stories about." Y/N tells him. The man chuckles and nods.
"So, she did talk about me. Good." he says, his voice full of pride. Y/N raises her eyebrows.
"Yes, she says that you follow that witcher around like his own shadow." Y/N tells him amusingly, crossing arms on her chests.
"Excuse me! I am a reason why Geralt's reputation has improved so much! If it wasn't for me, he would be hated all over the Continent!" he explains, gently touching strings on his lute. Y/N sighs, already regretting she got involved into this conversation. Jaskier stands up.
"How rude of me, please lady Y/N, sit. Join me. Give chance to my majestic tunes." he bows down dramatically. Y/N had to chuckle.
Well damn it. I have no better things to do anyway.
"Fine." she tells him and then sits down after a few seconds of hesitation. "But stop calling me lady. I'm a mercenary. There's nothing lady-like in my profession, bard." she says, glancing at her own clothes. It's been a while since she could afford a new one. Her leather jacket was worn out, her boots on a verge of breaking and gloves had a couple of holes on them.
"Well." he hesitates for a moment then lowers his eyes. "My profession is to see a beauty in everything. Even viciousness."
Y/N looks at him, with caution in her eyes.
Is he flirting or bragging? Y/N couldn't tell.
"You look...offended." he says, his face slightly worried. Y/N looks away.
"And you're already boring me." she tells him. Jaskier grabs his lute and clears his throat.
"I might not be an expert at conversation. But I'm remarkable at singing. So, allow me-"
"I'm not-"
But it was too late. Jaskier opened his mouth and the words just started flowing, paired with the sounds of lute. Y/N sighs, but patiently sits and listens to the bard's words. She would never admit it, but he was good. A bit too good.
And I’ll sing silence
And ask my glass of wine for guidance
I might not make it tonight
And I’ll speak with my eyes
You’ll think I’m weird, one sympathises
I might not make it tonight.
Later that evening, when everyone gathered around in main hall for dinner, Y/N decided she won't be joining them, so she sneaked into kitchen, grabbed a plate full of bread, cheese, ham, mushrooms and some baked potatoes and then headed for the west balcony. The sun was already down but she felt peaceful there, ignoring the cold that pinched her nose and cheeks. Y/N sat down on a cracked rock that was once part of the castle and put the plate beside her.
"Y/N?" suddenly a voice behind her calls her. "I promise I wasn't stalking you-"
"Jaskier. Don't you have a witcher to follow around?" Y/N smirks. The bard scratches the back of his head while slowly approaching her, ignoring her question.
"You do this often?" he asks, finding himself a spot next to Y/N and grabbing a piece of cheese from her plate. Y/N slaps his hand and he drops the cheese in disbelief.
"Do what?" she ignores his offended look and grabs the cheese he was about to eat.
"Push people away when they attempt to be nice to you?"
Y/N frowns and puts a piece of it in her month, giving her time to think about his words.
"I don't even know you. Why would I trust you?" she asks, not realising she slightly moved away from him.
"Well, I choose to believe you have to have faith in people before they earn it. Or else, it's not faith." he shrugs shoulders, not removing his eyes of her. Y/N look away.
"That's...not how things work. At least not in my world."
"Well, allow me to show you how things work in mine then." This time there was nothing but seriousness in his voice. Y/N studies his face while her lips part slightly. She clenches her fits nervously. How did their conversation head into such odd direction?
"Jaskier, why are you here?" she changes the subject, not looking at him but at the distant mountains surrounding them.
"Um, Triss...she wanted you to join us at feast." he explains, his voice a bit unsteady. Y/N gets up, leaving the plate next to the bard.
"Well, tell her I already ate and that I'm good." she tells him, ready to walk back inside. Jaskier stands up.
"You can still come. If you want, you know." he speaks before her hand touches the balcony door.
Y/N stands still, not facing the bard.
"As I said – I'm good. Don't wait for me." she tells him, then pulls the doorknob and leaves.
It was around midnight when Y/N heard a knock on doors. She gets up from her bed and approaches the doors. She wasn't expecting anyone, especially not this late. Y/N opens the doors and sees Triss, with a soft smile on her lips.
"I'm sorry if I woke you up."
"No, it's fine. I couldn't sleep anyway." Y/N answers honestly.
"Mind if I come in?" Triss asks. Y/N shakes head and lets redheaded woman inside. Y/N sits down on her bed, leaving the only chair in the room for Triss to sit on.
Sorceress didn't sit but slowly started pacing around the room.
"Is everything okay?" Y/N asks. Triss chuckles a bit and shrugs her shoulders.
"I don't know, you tell me." Triss says, finally looking at her. Y/N tilts her head to a side.  She couldn't see behind Triss' poker face.
"What do you mean?"
"I'm sorry for being so blunt, but is something going on between you and Jaskier?"
Y/N raises her eyebrows in confusion. "The bard? Did he say something was happening?" she raises her voice, slightly distressed.
"No, no, he said nothing. But as soon as he entered the hall without you, I knew something happened. And it didn't seem good." Triss tells her. Y/N gets up.
"I didn't come here to hang around with bards, witchers or anyone else in matter of fact. I'm here to do my duty. The bard-"
"The bard obviously has a thing for you." Triss says, not able to hide a proud smile.
Y/N rolls her eyes and sighs deeply. "Tomorrow I'm going to have a word with him. This is ridiculous."
"Y/N, don't be so hard on him. He's a good man."
"I don't have time for 'good men' in my life. Especially if they do this."
"Do what?" Triss slowly approaches, slightly frowning.
"Make a fool out of me by making a heart wrenching show in front of others. Makes me look weak. And unprofessional." Y/N says quietly.
"By showing he's interested? I don't see how's that possible."
"Triss, I'm not like that. I don't do romance. And people."
"I understand. But try to be...considerate." Triss smiles softly and then starts walking towards the door.
"Goodnight."
The next morning Y/N was on her feet at dawn. She couldn't sleep after Triss left her room. The bard was on her mind. And she planned of getting rid of him.
Few hours later, after he didn't show up in the main hall for breakfast, Y/N headed to his room.
He opened the doors after a third knock.
"Y/N! What are you-"
"Don't act innocent, bard." she starts walking towards him, with her index finger pointed towards his chests. Jaskier starts walking backwards, until he hits the wall behind.
"Woah, woah, what is going on here?" he yells, raising his hands in the air.
"You know what’s going on! What did you tell Triss about you and me?!" she yells at him.
"I didn't tell her anything! I don't know what you heard, Y/N, but I can assure you it's not-"
"Stop making a show out of me. I'm not here to inspire your poets or whatever else you do. Got it?" she yells again, fully aware of how little control over her emotions she had.
Jaskier's face frowns and his lips part but he doesn't say anything.
"Which part do I have to repeat?" Y/N asks, pulling away from him. She just now realized how close she got.
"I-I wasn't planning to. Who told you this?"
"Does it matter? You obviously got yourself a reputation for doing so." Y/N crosses arms on her chests, not breaking the eye contact. At this point she was improvising, but Y/N heard of his songs before. They were mostly about love. So, she couldn't be that wrong, could she?
"Y/N, I'm not...okay, listen. I might've shared my thoughts about you with Triss and she must've interpreted them in a wrong way."
"You know what?" Y/N tells him after a few seconds of hesitation. "Forget it. Just stay away from me." she warns him and turns around but freezes - he stopped her. Y/N slowly lowers her eyes. He grabbed her hand tightly.
She doesn't turn around to face him. Y/N felt a shiver all over her backs.
No, no, not now.
The flashbacks in her mind started like it happened yesterday. She held her breath and tears. She couldn't fall apart now. Not now. Not in front of him.
"Let me go." she tells him quietly, barely louder than a whisper.
"I can't."
"Jaskier-"
"Just listen to me." he speaks and it sounds like begging. Y/N slowly turns to face him and Jaskier lets go of her hand, but still stands close.
"You have 30 seconds. And then... I'm out."
Jaskier was about to protest, but then stops himself and cleans his throat instead. Y/N crosses arms on her chests and waits.
"I don't know what I did to you to dislike me so ardently. But I think you're one of the most mesmerizing women I ever met. And I just can't or want to stay away from you. You don't have to like me, Y/N. You don't have to explain yourself to me. But I need you to know that I would never do anything to shame or hurt you."
Y/N lips part and her hands slide from her chests to her sides. She wasn't expecting this when she gave him 30 seconds. Now, when it was her turn to talk, she didn't know what to say. She sighs deeply, trying to collect herself and her thoughts.
"J-just...please, stay away from me." she barely speaks, feeling her throat tightening. He didn't have time to answer. Y/N ran outside, slamming the doors behind her.
She didn't leave her room for the rest of the day. Not even for dinner. Nor for the breakfast the day after. Which was mistake because Y/N and Triss had a long trip back to Novigrad. It was time to leave.
When she packed her bags, she headed downstairs to the stables. Geralt, Eskel, Vesemir and young Cirilla were there to see both Y/N and Triss off, helping them out with saddling horses and their own personal belongings. Just when Y/N secured the last bag and hopped over on the saddle, she heard steps approaching her.
She looks over at Triss, who was standing next to her horse and giving Y/N meaningful look.
"Be nice." she forms words, but doesn't speak them outload.
"Triss. Y/N." she hears a familiar voice, then slowly turns her head to a side.
"Jaskier." both girls call him at the same time. Y/N notices his serious look, but tries to tell herself it had nothing to do with her. She was just overthinking this, she must've.
"Just came to wish you luck on your journey." he tells, slowly bowing his head. Y/N looks away, suddenly not sure where to look at.
"Thanks." she answers fast. Too fast. Then notices Triss' a cautionary glance.
"Thank you, Jaskier. Find me when come to Novigrad." she approaches him, gently squeezing his hand. Jaskier smiles a bit at her and nods.
"Well, I guess we should be on our way." Y/N speaks, still avoiding to catch Jaskier's look.
Triss hesitates a bit, obviously hoping for different direction of their conversation, but then quietly agrees and jumps on her horse as well. Y/N can't help but feel Jaskier's stare, but manages to not to look at him while leading the horse outside of the stable.
And they head on their long, tiring journey.
○○○○
"Aren't you excited!?" Triss exclaims, hurrying her horse. The sun was just setting down behind their backs. The smell of spring was in the air. In front of them stood Beauclair in its full glory. Exactly three months ago Triss called her to join her to Kaer Morhen. And now, she wanted Y/N's escort once again. This time, to Beauclair.
"For what? Castle full of royalties who look down upon my profession? Who treat me like a servant?" Y/N raises eyebrows, tightening the grip of reins in her hands.
"Oh, don't be like that, I'm sure we will get a nice treatment. Her Grace Anna Henrietta always welcomes her guests warmly. Also, I heard they have a big feast tonight. We should hurry."
 ○○○○
Y/N sighed nervously while looking at her reflection in the mirror. She was wearing Triss' red dress with gold tendrils.
"I'm not going. You're not paying me enough for this." Y/N tells Triss, who was just finishing up her make up.
"I'm paying you more than I should, actually. Don't complain. Also, it fits you splendidly." Triss answers with satisfied smile and then stands up, fixing the edges of her sleeves.
"Are we ready?" she asks. Y/N sighs once again and nods.
"Let's get this over with."
Thirty minutes later, Y/N regretted agreeing to this. The ballroom was enormous and full of people she didn't know but didn't feel like getting to know either. They were mostly royalties from another kingdoms, but quite few from Toussaint itself. Triss quickly abandoned her after seeing her old academy colleague from Aretuza. So, Y/N had to find her own amusement for next three hours. Or as long as Triss planned to stick around. Queen Anna Henrietta didn't show up yet, but it was expected. She wanted her guests to get comfortable before she arrives. And Y/N planned on doing just that.
She got herself some wine and left the hall, heading to the balcony. The night was fresh but spring came faster to Toussaint than in any other part of Continent so Y/N didn't feel cold. She leaned against the fence, ignoring the crowd around her. The view at Beauclair was magnificent, she had to admit that.
"Good evening."
Y/N quickly turns around. It couldn't be.
"Jaskier."

Psssst could you tell me about Vy? Also who does she romance? Just spam me with Vy info bls qwq
Ahh thank u for the ask Marh and sorry that it took me so long to answer!
Vy is my secondary DA2 protagonist, so I don’t have a lot prepared for her compared to Cirilla, but I’ll share what I have ^^
One of the things that I like to run with is that, instead of having my Hawkes be of the same personality archetype as their Malcolm, it’s the opposite. Cirilla’s dad is soft and gentle while she is grumpy and rebellious. As for Vy, her Malcolm was strict and demanding, so she grew up more insecure and meek in return. Vy was ultimately closer to Leandra than any other family member and internalized much of the same thought process & issues as her mother, for example: their struggles with love, individual freedom and responsibilities (and also their obsession with tidiness in my HC lol).
She loves her family to death and took care of them with dedication, as was expected of her, but there’s always a part of her - subconscious or not - that has always wanted Out. Her most common coping method is “after this I will be able to do whatever I want”: “after I made enough money and the twins grew up enough I will fuck off to Amaranthine and fish all day”, “after we get the house back for mother I and Beth will leave Kirkwall and maybe become pirates”, etc. Most of which she never managed to do because of canon events, so it’s just this circle of endless tasks and responsibilities and her party bucket list just grows and grows.
And that ties with her central rlts with the Kirkwall crew too! Beth is defo aware of her sister’s issues and I imagine that also factored in Beth’s own guilt complex (oof they have a lot to patch up). Then Vy’s closest with Isabela and Merrill bc to some extent they mirror 2 different aspects of Vy that she cant seem to reconcile, so she looks up to them a lot. For Isabela it’s her love for personal freedom, for the sea for sailing. And for Merrill it’s her passion and dedication toward restoring Dalish history. And then there’s Vy, so enamored with that freedom yet can’t reach for it, so deeply entangled with her duties yet cant commit to them wholeheartedly. So yes, compare contrast! Narrative foils that are just my jam! I’m not very sure if they would end up a romantic trio or queer platonic, I’ll have to restart her playthrough and decide later ^^
Other than that, she’s a neat freak as I mentioned above, a very methodical, organized and precise person, definitely into planners and labeling & colorcoding all her stuffs. She’s shy, prone to analysis paralysis & performance anxiety so she prepares extensively for everything in advance. She was taught archery first by Leandra, then trained further with a family of hunters they met when living on the move back in Ferelden, then got to master her skills during military service w Carver. She’s a great shot and a good hunter.

There are a lot of fics in the fandom where Jaskier is a concubine or bed warmer and is gifted to Geralt (usually warlord Geralt) and that becomes his path to freedom and love. Some of them are among the best fics in the fandom. One of them is one of my favorite fics ever.
But I do get to thinking...
Men who are physically strong and skilled in combat (like Geralt) can also be exploited. In fact, physical power is one of the most limited forms of power, and witchers are exploited and oppressed in canon. And by the same token, men who can't wield a weapon (like Jaskier), can be very powerful if they are born into the correct family.
So. What if we flip their roles in the narrative? (I'm sure there are flipped fics out there, but I'm going to spin my own idea for a minute.) Alright. Here we go. My idea for Prince Jaskier/Gladiator Geralt.
CW for references to past sexual abuse. Do not read further if you don't want to read any references to sexual abuse. As I said, it is a reversal of the trope mentioned above, so none of the abuse is between Geralt and Jaskier, but the premise does involve servitude and abuse.
---------
Jaskier is a prince sent out on his very first diplomatic visit. He has been chosen for this task (negotiating a treaty) because he has come of age, and his father wants him to make a match with the princess. His father has managed to keep his country's economic crisis a secret, but it won't stay that way for long. If Jaskier can impress his hosts perhaps he can marry the princess, and his people will be pulled back from the brink of financial ruin.
But before Jaskier goes, his father counsels him that he will see some barbaric practices in this other country. Though this other country is wealthy and advanced technologically, it still engages in things like gladiator fights and indentured servitude. Jaskier says that he understands. He can keep his mouth shut no matter what he sees. He knows that they are counting on him.
The first day of the visit goes well. During a long session of intense negotiations, Jaskier makes a brilliant first impression, so much so that the king invites him to be the guest of honor at a gladiator fight. Jaskier does not have a stomach for violence or gore. So he downs a few goblets of wine to take the edge off and to keep himself relaxed enough to not vomit at the first sight of entrails.
Their prize gladiator is a striking, white haired warrior with mystical powers. He has an enviable streak of wins, and the people love him. Part of why they love him is because he seems to hate killing people. He will do it efficiently and well, in order to defend his life. But when they push someone out into the ring that is ill prepared or a poor match for him, he does everything he can to stall or stop the fight.
Once, the king tells Jaskier, he refused to fight and managed to convince his opponent to refuse to fight. They publicly executed several prisoners in retaliation, so now he fights. But he curses them elaborately after every win.
Instead of it weighing on their conscience, however, the audience moons over him as a noble assassin, a killer with a heart of gold. It's the irony, it's the angst. They love him. Not enough to free him of course, but they love him.
Jaskier worries he is not drunk enough for this, but he manages. As expected, the warrior wins the fight. It is a tough match against a skilled and weathered opponent. But he fights with the mesmerizing grace of a brutal dancer and he wins in a spectacular fashion. The crowd goes berserk.
Though Jaskier finds the warrior incredibly compelling, his eyes drawn to him over and over like a beacon, he is relieved as fuck that the whole thing is over. He can't wait to go back to his room and cleanse away the memory of that horrible pulsing severed carotid with maybe a song or another drink. He can't wait to have more power and ban some of these horrific practices.
But before he can get back to his room, the king makes him an offer that he is entirely unprepared for. He has taken such a liking to Jaskier that he offers to send the champion up to his room.
That is when Jaskier learns that the royal ladies (and some of the men) take great pride in partaking of the warrior after a match. It is the highest honor.
It's partly his beautiful physique. They have special clothing made up for him that resembles his armor, but offers more access. It's partly the danger and the thrill of conquering such a violent beast. They bind him and they station guards close by so he can't retaliate. But the thought that he could kill them with the twist of a wrist is part of the appeal. It is also partly the exclusivity. The entire kingdom loses their mind for this warrior, but it is only they who have access to him. It gives these wealthy, bored, royals a rare thrill.
When his host explains all of this, Jaskier's stomach drops almost to the soles of his shoes. His first instinct is to be outraged. To say no. His kingdom has done away with bed warmers and...well...sex slaves, really. He has been brought up to believe that ravaging someone, anyone, is a base, cruel, horrible thing to do.
So he almost says no. He almost shouts it. Frankly, he would like to slap the king across his smug beastly face. Obviously he can't do that. But he wants to. But then a thought flickers across his mind. If he says no, then this warrior will be sent to someone else. And who knows who that person will be and what they will do to him.
Jaskier feels sick to his stomach when he accepts the king's offer. He hopes his disgust isn't apparent. He tries to make it sound lusty. To his own ears, he fails at it. Besides his disgust for the idea, he is also incredibly inexperienced. If he has to feign an intimate understanding of the specifics of sex, he'll reveal himself to be the young amateur that he is.
But the king is so drunken and self absorbed that he doesn't even notice. He claps Jaskier on the back, calls him my boy, and motions to his guards. The guards jump to attention. The king points down to the arena at the warrior. The warrior is slick with sweat and blood and grime. He is quietly cleaning his sword with a far away look on his face. The cheers of the crowd weigh on him.
Just then, the warrior looks up at Jaskier. His golden eyes feel like a punch to the solar plexus. He sees what is happening. He knows who is being conferred the honor of his body tonight.
Jaskier wants to mouth an apology. To explain himself. Of course he can't. They are too far apart and there is too much noise between them. Besides. Jaskier is currently pretending to be into this. But his eyes slide away guiltily. He feels queasy and he is regretting the wine right about now.
The king asks Jaskier if he wants the warrior grimy or clean. They can bathe him before they send him up, or they can just walk him up as he is, for a more authentic experience. Jaskier feels a cold fury bubbling inside. He shoves it down. He says to send him as he is. Jaskier will draw a bath in his own room and give the gladiator privacy.
The king makes a crude joke about Jaskier liking it dirty, and he almost bites through his tongue in order to hold it. He tastes copper.
Soon, Jaskier is alone in his room, pacing the marble floors, clenching and unclenching his fists. He is deep in concentration, trying to figure out how to play this. When the guards bring the warrior, will they leave? Or will they insist on staying close by? How will Jaskier hide his true intentions from them? Whatever they see, they will undoubtedly report to the king.
Jaskier chews his bottom lip and whispers to himself, practicing what he will say to the warrior if he can get them alone.
You'll be safe tonight.
You don't have to do anything.
Would you like to bathe yourself? I won't look.

Ok let's play a game called:
I Can't Believe It's Not Fanon.
Otherwise known as...
Witcher facts that sound like Geraskier fic writers made them up, but that are, in fact, book canon.
PART ONE:
We've all read the fics where bad guys kidnap Jaskier in order to get to get to Geralt. These bad guys always regret it when Geralt slaughters every single one of them.
Well, good news! In Season of Storms, starting on page 310, this very thing happens.
(TW: Violence and gore)
Geralt is attending a royal wedding and once again, powerful people are trying to get him to do something he doesn't want to do. He enters a room to find:
Dandelion was as white as a sheet and clearly terrified...He was sitting on a chair with a high backrest. Behind the chair stood a skinny character with hair combed and plaited into a queue. The character was holding a misericorde with a long, narrow, four-sided blade. The blade was pressed against the poet's neck, below his jaw, slanting upwards.
"No funny business," warned Ropp. No funny business witcher. One false move, even one twitch, and Mr Samsa will stick the minstrel like a hog. He won't hesitate."
So, these particular assholes have accurately surmised that Geralt's weakness is Dandelion. There were any number of people they could have kidnapped, but they chose the poet. Of course, they underestimate Geralt, like so many people do.
Geralt tries to warn them that this is a very very bad move.
"You're making a mistake, Ropp."
They don't listen to him. They keep going, making increasingly florid violent threats to Dandelion's safety.
"Now," said the captain..."Now you will confirm that you've understood the task and will execute it. Should you not, before I count to ten under my breath, Mr Samsa will rupture the minstrel's right eardrum...if the desired result does not ensure, Mr Samsa stabs the other ear. And will then gouge out the poet's eye. And so on, to the bitter end, which is a jab to the brain. I'm starting to count, witcher."
What does Dandelion do? Well, he's terrified but he tries to be brave.
"Don't listen to him Geralt!" Dandelion somehow managed to make a sound from his constricted throat. "They won't dare to touch me! I'm famous!"
This is hilarious and very, very Dandelion. But also, it's not entirely unreasonable. Dandelion's fame often protects him, and sometimes it protects Geralt too. However, it doesn’t seem to be doing either at the moment.
Geralt says to Mister Samsa:
"First, move that dagger away from the poet's ear."
Mister Samsa seems to think that they have succeeded and Geralt is negotiating with him, so he complies. (this guy makes one bad decision after another)
"Ha," snorted Mister Samsa, lifting the misericorde high over his head. "Is that better?"
Geralt simply answers:
"Better."
Then without another word, Geralt kills them all, violent and bloody. It is a descriptive, vividly gory passage. He slices carotid arteries and groins. One man's neck spews blood onto the chandelier and ceiling. But I find what Geralt does to Mister Samsa to be particularly significant and satisfying.
The Witcher jerked the sword from the scabbard before Ropp fell, and with one fluid movement coming out of a short spin, hacked off Samsa's raised hand. Samsa yelled and dropped to his knees.
So Geralt’s actions say...you use your hand to hold a blade to *my* poet's neck, and I will chop that motherfucker off. Let's see you do that again without a hand, you piece of shit.
It's a gory passage. I'll skip to the end. The royal instigator comes into the room to investigate and asks Geralt about the one man he has left (sort of, temporarily) alive.
The instigator examined the captain, who was lying, stretched out in a pool of urine, salivating copiously, and trembling incessantly.

Geralt
"Are you certain about this?" Jaskier asked Geralt as the two of them boarded the carriage. The witcher being careful on his every move so as to not wake the sleeping infant in his arms.
"I have no other choice, this is my duty now," his voice sounded gruff and monotonous, but the bard can sense something else in Geralt's face. Jaskier was aware of his childhood, and a witness to the kind of life he has. Yet here they were traveling to a far off place with a six-month-old child.
"Do you even know how to take care of it?"
Geralt glared at Jaskier, as if he said something incredibly offensive, "It is a girl and her name is Cirilla."
Dandelion realized the witcher didn't like how he called the baby an 'it,' she's not some kind of an animal or object to be regarded as such, "Right. My apologies but...on a more serious note, what do you know about child rearing?"
That was a good question, before fleeing Cintra, the queen made sure they have everything they need: money, carriage, food, spare clothes for the baby. Providing is one thing, but taking care of a child is a whole different story, it's not just about feeding her or lulling her to sleep, although those are pretty challenging too, it's much, much more than that.
Jaskier was just as clueless as he was, the bard maybe the more sociable one but babies terrify him as well... apparently.
"I'll figure it out," Geralt finally said.
There was a long silence after that, Jaskier became surprisingly quiet. His eyes fixed on every scenery they passed by. He must be either exhausted or he didn't want to wake Ciri with his endless blaberring. It was a good thing though that Geralt's child surprise was still in deep slumber, the witcher studied her face, she looks ethereal, he thought. A clone of Pavetta the crown princess, her birth mother whom Ciri will never have the chance to get to know.
Geralt was an orphan too, he spent most of his growing years training, how to fight, how to fend for himself...that's all he knows. Looking at the baby in his arms, he felt different, he wasn't sure what it was. Perhaps fear of not being good enough? Strong enough to protect her at all cost?
His thoughts were distracted when the carriage abruptly stopped, he heard Roach neigh from outside jolting the three of them, Ciri who was clearly shaken started snivelling. "Oh gods she's awake now," Jaskier fretted.
"What the hell happened?" asked Geralt, he handed Ciri over to Jaskier, "W-What are you doing? I-I can't!" the bard tried to protest but Geralt insisted on handing the baby over to him.
"Stay here, I'll go check," the witcher stepped outside the carriage, "Lazlo, what's--"
Before the witcher could finish the sentence, he already got his answer. A group of soldiers from Nilfgaard were able to follow them without being noticed and now they are being surrounded. "Fuck," that was all Geralt could mutter under his breath. The first thing that went through his mind was Ciri, her wailing can be heard from the carriage and Jaskier was desperately trying to calm her down by humming a lullaby, "Shh...don't cry my little sweetheart, my radiant sun," the bard said in between his hums. It hasn't even been that long since they got her, but Jaskier, although nervous at his first babysitting task already accepted her and even came up with an endearment for baby Ciri. It would have been a touching moment had they haven't found themselves in a deadly situation.
"We know you have her," said one of the soldiers, "Surrender her to us and your lives will be spared."
"I am a knight of Cintra, therefore I only take orders from my queen," Lazlo replied sternly.
"Calanthe is dead."
For a moment, Lazlo and Geralt froze.
"Cintra is in the hands of Nilfgaard now, and there is no point in serving a leader who jumped off to her death...we are giving you a chance, hand us the child and you shall be pardoned by the emperor."
"Princess Cirilla is the rightful one to ascend the Cintran throne, I will protect our future at all cost!"
An adorable little darling...
The future of Cintra...
That's what Ciri meant to Jaskier and the people of Cintra.
But what was she to Geralt?
He got her by invoking the law of surprise, that was it. He challenged fate and if it can only talk it would probably say, "Joke's on you fucker! Here is your prize for being a dumbass!"
Lazlo charged first, Geralt followed soon after. Protect her, a voice seemed to whisper in Geralt's ears as the image of a sleeping Ciri appeared in his mind, a beautiful definition of tranquility. Somehow the witcher felt more fiery than ever, back then, he killed in exchange for money. Now it's entirely different, he fights for her peace and he will slaughter anyone who attempts to destroy it. None will be spared. Blood spilt at the snow covered ground as the knight and witcher slew one enemy after another, if there was one thing Geralt was sure of, it would be to keep this baby safe.
Soon, dead bodies lay on the ground. The knight and witcher were both catching their breaths after their two-men army stint, Geralt had few cuts and bruises but he was fine. On the other hand, sir Lazlo grunted, he had a deep cut on his side. Geralt quickly checked on him, "You need a healer," said he.
Lazlo shook his head, "I'm fine."
"You're losing blood!"
"Geralt?" Jaskier went out of the carriage with a sleeping Ciri in his arms.
"How's the princess?" Lazlo asked, trying to ignore the pain he was feeling.
"She's alright, quite a fussy baby I must say," the bard eyed on the knight's wound, "Yeah...we need to get you to a healer, problem is the next town is still quite far."
"I can handle myself," Lazlo insisted, "Her highness' safety is the most important."
It wasn't long after a portal appeared, dozens of Nilfgaardian soldiers stepped out of it. The three men looked at each other, they were already surrounded. "Great," was all Jaskier could mutter, "What now?"
Being a witcher he has already seen the many faces of terror, almost nothing scares him anymore except losing. Not a battle, but the thought of Ciri being taken away from him. He gripped the hilt of his sword tightly, there's no way in hell he'd surrender her to anyone, not even the most powerful...not even death. Geralt retrieved a bottle of elixir he always kept in his pocket and was about to drink it when another portal opened. Mousesack stepped out of it, he was battered and exhausted but nevertheless breathing. The witcher wasn't sure if he should be relieved or worried.
Mousesack wasted no time and uttered a spell blasting the group of enemies that were blocking the carriage, it took a chunk of his remaining energy but he was still willing to fight. The rest of the group charged, Geralt finished an entire bottle of elixir and in a matter of seconds, his golden eyes turned pitch black, veins became visible around them, he became a completely different person. "Get back to the carriage!" he growled at Jaskier, the latter did what he was told. The trio fought their hardest, making sure no one gets near Jaskier and Ciri, but among the three, Geralt was the only one who was still in his best condition. Lazlo's wound was making him slower, and if Mousesack overexerts himself it would cost him his life. He was determined to end this shit once and for all.
But Mousesack had other plans...
He uttered a spell and created a barrier thus preventing the enemies from attacking, "What are you doing?!" Geralt grew concerned, "It will consume every bit of your remaining strength!"
"Nilfgaard will never stop until they get what they want! They'll keep sending their troop until all of us are killed! I wish I could still open a portal, but I no longer have enough strength to do that, this is the best I could do."
The witcher's mind raced, he cannot let anything happen to Mousesack and Lazlo.
"The barrier won't last that long," he warned, "You must leave at once!"
"But--"
"Make haste witcher!" Lazlo urged, "Mousesack and I will buy you as much time as we can."
Geralt wanted to argue, he wanted to stay and help, but at the same time he can't risk the baby's life...it was a dire situation and it frustrates him because he could only choose one, "Take care of Ciri...she's yours," Mousesack told him, "Now go!"
Geralt sprinted and boarded the carriage once more. Roach understood that it was time to leave, they sped off, as fast as they can. The witcher gave Lazlo and Mousesack one last glance as if to say goodbye to the two and thanked them for everything.
They journeyed for days, weeks, stopping by inns to rest. Going to markets to purchase supplies for the baby and making sure they never run out. Travelling with an infant was probably harder than fighting an army sent by an insane emperor. Good thing an elderly lady from one of the inns they stayed at was kind enough to show them how to bathe, feed and change nappies properly. Somehow, Geralt and Jaskier were getting a hang of it...but just like any other babies, there were days (and nights) when Ciri was just too much to handle.
"Melitele this child of yours Geralt!" Jaskier complained, "I haven't had any decent sleep for so long that I already look older than I actually am."
It was already late at night, and Jaskier had been trying to put her to sleep by singing that lullaby he sang to her for the first time, but it didn't work, Ciri wouldn't stop squalling. Heavens if the owner and other guests weren't terrified of Geralt they would have been kicked out by now. "Barely a year old and she's already manifesting signs," he grumbled as he placed the child in the witcher's arms, it was his turn to watch her. The witcher gently rubbed Ciri's back while looking at the bard quizzically.
"What signs?"
"She's becoming your child version, I mean look at her! She already perfected your scowl it's scary..." Jaskier shuddered, "But at least she's adorable."
Geralt sat on his bed, his back rested against the wooden head board and placed Ciri on his chest, one hand supporting the lower half of her body, the other stroking her golden strands. The infant started to calm down as she snuggled to the warmth of his body, it didn't even take long when she dozed off. Jaskier's mouth hang open, he had been stressing out all night and here Geralt was doing it so effortlessly.
"Maybe she's fed up hearing your voice," Geralt teased.
"That's not true!" Jaskier protested, "Everyone loves my voice and my ballads, you have a horrible taste for music!"
Jaskier lied down on his bed and wrapped himself in his blanket, "Now if you'll excuse me I shall be having my beauty rest, and you put her to sleep from now on!"
The night was calm, just as Geralt wanted it. A time where he could just lie down and appreciate the blissful silence before another chaotic day begins. He has been keeping still so as to not wake Ciri, he didn't mind. In fact he grew fond of watching her sleep, he'd often wonder what babies dream about? If they have any.
So much have changed eversince he decided to claim Ciri, back then he had always felt something missing. A void that could not be filled, he was lost and restless...a dear friend was able to fill that whole at some point but she ended up hating him, he was basically fucked up. With Ciri, everything fell into place, she was the light in his dark, shitty life. Tiny hands holding his assured him that there will be better days, emerald eyes looked up to him full of wonder and then her lips would break into the most beautiful smile he'd ever seen...and just like that...his heart was full.
Indeed she was a magical baby.
The witchers were glad and relieved when they finally arrived at Kaer Morhen, it was the place Geralt chose to keep Ciri. It wasn't exactly the most child-friendly environment, but he could trust them, she'd be safe here.
"Well what do you know? The son of a bitch is alive!" Lambert was the first to welcome him.
"Where the hell have you been?" Coën asked.
Geralt eyed Jaskier, the latter seemed nervous but he assured that they wouldn't slaughter him, "It's a long story."
"It's a long winter, we have plenty of time to talk about it," said Vesemir, his eyes went on Jaskier, "And...you're with company."
"Everyone this Jaskier, a friend of mine," Geralt introduced the bard to everyone.
"Bestfriend," he corrected. Geralt rolled his eyes but didn't say anything.
"What about the little one?"
Ciri who had been so engrossed at "eating" her hands looked up to the witchers, Geralt and Jaskier grew worried that she'd cry at the sight of the horrifying-looking witchers but were surprised when she beamed and started blabbing gibberish, as if trying to introduce herself. Geralt chuckled, the rest found themselves smiling at the sweet baby girl.
"This is Cirilla," Geralt proudly introduced, "She's mine."
Vesemir and the other witchers knew about his child surprise, but the way he said it meant that she's more than just a child bound to him by destiny. Geralt and Ciri share a bond that no one can ever break, and they will always be a part of each other. Always.
And they understood that.
Vesemir held Ciri's tiny hands, "We are pleased to have you here Cirilla," said he, "Welcome to the family."

The Witcher: Hogwarts AU
Tumblr media
For Yennefer of Vengerberg Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry had been serving as her second home ever since she set foot in it. Being muggle-born and getting sorted into Slytherin at age twelve didn't always make for a happy childhood, but happy childhoods made for dull company anyways.
As she strived in potions class, her talent didn't go unnoticed by Headmistress Tissaia de Vries and once she graduated she was offered the position of potions teacher. After years of hard work she became the Head of Slytherin and thrived in taking away house points. However, the position she yearned for was vacant at the end of every year, yet her application always got denied.
Tumblr media
Retired auror, Geralt of Rivia becomes the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher. When he first got the letter that informed him about the open position, he was hesitant. As he learned that the position seemed cursed, as for no teacher had been able to keep it for longer than one year, he decided he could use a new challenge.
As he got bored of the castle walls surrounding him, he went to explore the school grounds in his unregistered animagus form. Bonding with the many creatures in the Forbidden Forest and learning about the mysterious attacks it had endured during the school year so far.
Tumblr media
When Princess Cirilla of Cintra received her first letter of Hogwarts, her grandmother had been reluctant of letting the girl apply. However as her powers grew stronger and became uncontrollable, she had no other choice as to send the girl to the magical boarding school.
As Ciri secretly roamed around the castle at night, she learned of the many secrets the school held. And it wasn't just the school keeping secrets from her. Teachers and students would stare at her, follow her every move. As if they were afraid of something, as if they were afraid of her.
Tumblr media
The annual Yule Ball made for magical occurances. As Geralt of Rivia was finally able to melt the icy exterior of his rival Yennefer of Vengerberg, the castle came under attack. The heartfelt moment they shared with their favourite A grade student the next day was promptly interrupted.
A group of prisoners had escaped from Azkaban the night before, they'd reached the castle through the Forbidden Forest and they were out for only one thing, one person in particular, Cirilla of Cintra. As the castle was under attack, Tissaia de Vries gave the three of them a way out. Trusting Yennefer and Geralt, the two people she believed in most, with the care of Ciri.
It was a task far more demanding than any other, but for Ciri they would succeed. They would protect the girl and keep her safe. No matter what dangers crossed their paths.
