Character development questions for trans and gender diverse muses.

How does your muse describe their own identity? Do they use a different label or describe themselves differently depending on who's asking?

How does your muse most enjoy dressing, when they feel at ease to present however they like? Is this different to how they present most of the time?

How does your muse handle feeling dysphoric or insecure in their appearance?

Did your muse's orientation or way of feeling attracted to others shift with their gender identity?

What was the moment your muse first realised (or began to realise) their gender roles didn't match up with who they were or wanted to be?

Is there someone your muse considers a "gender icon" or aspires to be like?

What does your muse's ideal example of their gender look like? Eg. "the ideal man" and so on.

Have the people in your muse's life been more of a support or a hindrance in them exploring or coming out and/or learning about themselves?

Talk about a key moment in your muse's journey towards becoming their more ideal self.

Is your muse confident in their identity? Still questioning? Is there anything that ever makes them feel doubtful about themselves?

Does your muse consider themselves out and proud, or would they rather live their life quietly and unnoticed?

What very personalised piece of advice would your muse give, either to their younger self or to someone else just beginning to explore who they are?

Is there a seemingly gender-unrelated thing that gives your muse a feeling of gender euphoria? (Eg. an activity outside of the usual societally gender-coded ones that they associate with their gender for some certain reason, an article of clothing that isn't specifically gendered but feels flattering or validating in some way, etcetera.)

Did your muse experience a grieving process at the beginning of realising their identity, or was the revelation wholly positive and affirming for them?

Did your muse feel like they had to "learn" how to perform their gender, or did they slip into the role naturally? Did they change much about their mannerisms or how they interact with the world, at all?

The blonde entered the study, getting the first glimpse of the large mutant in a while. She warmed a bit and cleared her throat. “I’m sorry to disturb you, but I was hoping you could answer a question. It’s silly really but what’s your biggest fear?”

Leonardo raised a brow bone, “Disturb me?” He repeated and shook his head. He then reached out and trailed a finger from her soft and warm cheek—to lifting her chin. “My door is always open for you, you can never disturb me.” His lips curved into a warm smile for the pretty blonde while staring into her violet gaze.

“As for your question…” He pulled back for a moment and ran a hand over his mouth and chin while carefully thinking through her question. “Asides losing any more of my family—Failure and not being good enough. It never used to be this bad…Sure it would always be in the corner of my mind and push me to be perfect but, after losing our father—it deathly scares me to fail like that again….Forgive me Aurora, that was probably too much for a simple question.” His voice lowered and cleared his throat. @aurora-the-kunoichi

How easy or difficult is it for your character to say “I love you?” Can they say it without meaning it?

For the Crown 👑

If you mean The Crown the TV show about Queen Elizabeth II, I can't answer that; I've never watched it. But if you mean my novel-in-progress, An Eternal Crown, okay:

Sarisa: She's good at thinking it, but her fear of vulnerability prevents her from saying it quite so easily. Nor would she ever say it unless she meant it.

Zeran: He says it very easily, but he won't say it without meaning it.

Lorikeet: She says it easily too, and she would probably say it without meaning it if she wanted a protector and felt she could only get one by feigning love.

Robin: He says it easily and might say it without meaning it, but he usually does mean it.

Vorteyo: He says it easily, and he would very easily say it without meaning it in order to control someone.

Alesta: As a priestess who tries her best to avoid earthly attachments – she would make a good Jedi if she lived in a galaxy far, far, away – she very rarely says it, and she would never say it unless she truly and deeply meant it.

Kimzi: She says it easily, and she would say it without meaning it if it suited her, but she usually does mean it – she's just less good at love in action than at love in words.

A Short Ask List About Love.

Does your OC have any difficulty distinguishing between love and lust?

Is your OC at all romantic themselves? Or is romance something they expect others to perform for their benefit?

What does your OC look for in a romantic (or perhaps purely sexual) partner? Is this always healthy?

Does your OC consider themselves to be attractive? Do they put much effort into achieving this?

Would your OC ever take advantage of someone's romantic feelings in order to manipulate them?

Has your OC ever had their heart broken? Have they ever truly recovered?

What is the most romantic gesture your OC has ever performed? Alternatively (or additionally), what romantic gesture would they most like to perform?

Which of my characters? Hmm... I guess I'll answer this for all the main characters from An Eternal Crown.

Sarisa: No, what matters to her is living a life of integrity and doing good for others. Sometimes she wants status and fame, but she doesn't care much about money or possessions.

Zeran: No, he cares mainly about people. As long as he loves and is loved, what does money matter?

Lorikeet: Well, she likes to be well-supplied with creature comforts and food, but money or possessions? Not a big deal.

Robin: Ditto.

Vorteyo: Money, no. That's so mortal. But material possessions to show off his towering status and power? Oh yes!

Alesta: No, the simple, spiritual life of a priestess is her calling.

Kimzi: Probably yes. If she found a way to get easy money and material possessions, then she would seize that opportunity. But even then, it's not a big priority for her: at least not compared to her obsession with Zeran.
