She turns around and smiles; it’s a bit awkward, embarrassing smile. Perhaps because she isn’t sure about what she intends to do. Nunnally takes a step towards her companion.

“I also have a small gift for you. It’s nothing…much… So, I hope you’ll not be disappointed…” – she knows he will; after all he’ll know she hasn’t really prepared anything. She stands on her toes and places a small, quick kiss on his cheek.

“Happy holiday season…” – she says it again; as if to cover her real feelings – “…I…I’d appreciate if you could help me with my rose pendant...” - Nunnally still wants Cheng to put on this piece if jewelery.

“Cheng…” – her blue eyes now lock on him – “Thank you…”

“what are we…?”

“…what do you mean?”

the room was dark and quiet. after an eventful sleepover, including movies, videogames and a ton of snacks, marinette and you had decided to try and get some sleep. it was so late that it almost became morning again. in just an hour, the sun would rise again, yet you hadn't been able to get any sleep yet.

“you know, i think of us as more than just…”

you trailed off towards the end of the sentence. your eyes were glued to the ceiling as you spoke. nobody moved or made a sound.

“m-more than just…?”

marinette's voice was shaky as she repeated after you, hoping you'd finish the sentence. her heart was beating so fast that she feared you'd hear it. why did you bring this up now of all times? she was about to drift to sleep, but now she was wide awake again!

“you're my best friend, but sometimes i wonder… if we could be more than that”

slowly, almost in trance, marinette sat up and turned to you. you were still staring at the ceiling, but you could see her move in your peripheral vision.

“m-more than that…?”

marinette was clearly at a loss for words. there was this tension between the two of you that had never been there before. but when you suddenly began to laugh, marinette was able to relax a little again.

“are you going to repeat everything i say~?”

you sat up and turned to face marinette, an amused grin on your lips. marinette's cheeks quickly turned red after your comment and she began to stutter and stumble over her words.

“n-no, of course not–! i was just– i wasn't sure if you– if what you were saying was what i was thinking and if i said anything it would've been weird if what you were thinking wasn't what i was saying and–”

marinette rambled on, as you slowly leaned in. even as you rested a hand on her cheek and pulled her closer, she kept talking and averting eye contact, until you finally put your lips on hers. and then she went quiet…
