Class Amounts Per Semester
In the Sims 4 you have to get at least 12 credits to receive their degree and have the option to take up to 4 classes relating to your degree per semester. Taking less classes per semester means more money spent and longer in school, but more classes obviously means Crazy Stress.
Not all classes require a Final Exam to pass, there's also Term Papers or Presentations.
˖⁺‧₊˚♡˚₊‧⁺˖♡︎˖⁺‧₊˚♡˚₊‧⁺˖ Heartslabyul ˖⁺‧₊˚♡˚₊‧⁺˖♡︎˖⁺‧₊˚♡˚₊‧⁺˖
Riddle: Takes 4 classes and somehow manages to stay on top of all homework. Gets Presentations/Term Papers done as soon as possible so he has extra free time to focus on studying.
Trey: 2-3 classes per semester depending on his stress level, wanting to make sure he can balance his own mental health with his school duties and encourages other students to do the same by not overloading themselves with work in an effort to not spend as long in school.
Cater: 2 classes is all he can handle, he's perfectly fine with taking longer to get through school if it means he can take it easy.
Ace: 2 classes. He was gonna do 1 but Riddle immediately marched him to the guidance office to change to 2 classes after lecturing him on how he wouldn't tolerate blatant laziness in his dorm.
Deuce: God bless this poor boy he took 4 classes his first semester and nearly had the mother of all crash-outs. Riddle and Trey had to step in to help make a flowchart for what day to focus on which subjects while also emphasizing that you can't just go until you drop dead.
🐪🌵☀️🦎🐫🏜️ Savanaclaw 🐪🌵☀️🦎🐫🏜️
Leona: 1 class per semester, he cannot be bothered and has ample money to spend as long as he feels in college. Besides that he's not focused on academics, he's really only here for Spelldrive.
Ruggie: 2 classes per semester so he has more time to focus on side jobs. Is pretty good about doing his homework, though he finds Presentations and Term Papers super annoying to do. Usually forces Leona to sit with him and Jack as a study group so Professors don't hassle him about Leona's lack of participation.
Jack: 2 classes, confident that he can at least handle that much. If he's good at the material he might try for 3 next semester, but for now he's taking it easy and testing how he'll do. What Jack really wants to do is take more classes so he has more time for Spelldrive, but he recognizes there's no point in pushing himself when he doesn't even know his limits yet.
: 𓏲🐋 ๋࣭ ࣪ ˖✩࿐࿔ 🌊 Octavinelle : 𓏲🐋 ๋࣭ ࣪ ˖✩࿐࿔ 🌊
Azul: 4 classes per semester, Azul scares the hell out of me. Term Papers? Done in record time. Presentations? Given by the first month of the semester's end. As all across the board due to his impeccible study regimine so that those who want to purchase his study guides know that he knows what he's talking about.
Jade: 3 classes, though it takes time away from working in the Lounge he wants to support the image of Octavinelle being a Dorm of intellectual excellence. As Vice Housewarden, he can't let the Dorm's reputation slip with rumors that he's slacking in comparison to his Housewarden.
Floyd: It would normally depend on his mood, but Floyd knows he can at most handle 2 classes with his mood swings. He's careful to pace himself, knowing that he'll likely not be able to mentally handle 3-4 classes on top of Basketball Club.
ఌ︎.˚☾⋆🦂☆• Scarabia 🦂☆•ఌ︎.˚☾⋆
Kalim: 3 classes, he's really eager to learn as much as he can. Would have gone for 4 if Jamil didn't put his foot down, saying he wouldn't help Kalim if Kalim overworked himself and ended up falling behind on his classwork from biting off more than he could chew.
Jamil: 2 classes so he has time to focus on his required classes, normally has any Term Paper done early in the Semester. Presentations take a bit more time so he can be sure the information he has is correct. Ended up helping Kalim with a Lesson Schedule that they both follow to make sure Kalim doesn't drop back on assignments.
🩰 ♡ ⁺‧₊˚🧸💌 🦢 Pomefiore 🩰 ♡ ⁺‧₊˚🧸💌 🦢
Vil: 4 classes and doesn't even break a sweat. His time management skills are impeccable, Vil can't be matched in his work ethic (but can be contested only by Riddle and/or Azul). Spare time goes to the Film Appreciation Club, but also plenty of self-care to ensure burn-out never becomes an issue.
Rook: 3 classes per semester, uses free time for dorm-wide study efforts at the suggestion of Vil to help make sure no one in Pomefiore is falling behind. Time management and multitasking are second nature to the Hunter of Love and Beauty. Presentations have flare and pizzaz while Term Papers are written in great detail to fully convey the beauty Rook sees in the subject at hand.
Epel: 3 classes at Vil's insistence and is struggling from it. 2 would have been a better amount, but now Epel barely has free time outside of schoolwork and extracurriculars. He ends each day exhausted and would sleep through the weekends if Vil didn't have his extra lessons in singing and deportment.
⛥✴🌌💀Ignihyde💀🌌✴⛥
Idia: 3 classes, homework's annoying but relatively easy to him. He doesn't really want to stay at NRC for longer than necessary dealing with normies, but he also doesn't want to totally overwork himself. He's gotta have time for his new gaming events, after all.
Ortho: 4 classes at once, the little maniac. As an android, Term Papers and Presentations are nothing more than an afternoon's work for Ortho. He'll be very excited to give his Presentation, happy to show off the data he's discovered about the subject and earn praise for his good work.
🪐🍵⋆.ॱ˖🐉 ༄🐉 .ॱ˖ ⋆: ۫ ּ🍵🪐 Diasomnia 🪐🍵⋆.ॱ˖🐉 ༄🐉 .ॱ˖ ⋆: ۫ ּ🍵🪐
Malleus: 4 classes since school is as easy as child's play for the Prince of the Fae. Term Papers and Presentations are done rather quickly just to get them out of the way so he has more time for the Gargoyle Appreciation Club and for exploring around the school.
Lilia: 3 classes, he's genuinely excited to learn all that the school has to offer but wants to leave himself some free time. He wouldn't want to overload himself with something he loves only to get burnt out! Presentations are rather well put-together and Term Papers have the most interesting fonts used for them.
Sebek: 4 classes, is also a maniac. He wanted so badly to be worthy for Malleus that he followed his Prince's example in taking the maximum amount of classes for his degree per semester. Despite it being a definite stressor, Lilia takes pity on him and helps out occasionally with homework. Presentations are delivered enthusiastically and well plenty of visual aides while Term Papers tend to be lengthy with his desire to add in extra details.
Silver: 2 classes, with his narcolepsy (not explicitly canon, just a lil HC of mine) he needs to give himself more time allowance to get his work done. He tries to work with Sebek in an effort to bridge the gap between the two, but Sebek always snaps that he doesn't need Silver's help. His Term Papers and Presentations will be turned in towards the end of the semester...if he doesn't sleep so much he isn't able to get them done.

2024年11月30日
November has ended, the JLPT season will soon be behind us, and the end of year holidays will be in full swing. It's time to review my progress this year, to think of reasonable and attainable goals for next year, and end up overpromising myself anyways.
もう11月が終わって、日本語能力試験の季節もそろそろ終わって、そして年末年始がやっと来ま。これから自分の進歩を調べて、丁寧な目的を考えて、そして結局全然達成できな目的に決めます。

November Progress
This month I spent the most time Writing and Listening (both 21%), and I was shocked at the amount of Writing time I had in there, but then I realized that I had a lot of LINE text exchanges with the other Class Mother (クラスマザー) at the Japanese preschool, and the other moms in the preschool, so I was very careful with my sentences and got my husband to double check some of them (and then I recorded it as studying).
I also had a vacation this month so Vocabulary, Kanji, and Grammar suffered horribly, but I kept on reading and having conversations so those areas didn't suffer too much.
Study Habit Check-In:
〇 = Great, △ = Decent, ✖ = Not Great
Read daily - read something almost every day 〇
Write sentences 4 times a week - I wrote a lot of sentences to the other mothers via LINE 〇
Review kanji and vocabulary flash cards daily - lol no ✖
Review 1-2 N3 grammar points weekly - lol no ✖
Learn 1-2 N2 grammar points weekly - lol no ✖
Listen to 1 podcast a week - yes! 〇
Continue to work on hiragana with my son - working on both reading and writing; he loves to write his name 〇

December Goals
For December, I will be wrapping up my studies for 2024 and beginning to plan my studies for 2025. I want to take a look back at what my original intentions were in 2024, how they changed over the course of the year, and how I ended up. I'd also like to make some decisions on study plans for at least the beginning of 2025, and set some long term goals.
What to do in December:
Evaluate the study materials I've used this year
Evaluate study materials I haven't used but intended to use
Look through Japanese textbooks available for borrowing on Libby
Decide what I want to achieve overall in 2025
Continue with small daily study habits
Continue with hiragana writing practice with my son
I don't know if anyone else has the problem where you get too ambitious and decide you will do All The Things but then realize that you can't really do that. I try to temper my expectations for myself and be realistic, but I always want to do more, and I always feel like I could be accomplishing more. In December, though, I'll take a step back and try to quantify my achievements to show myself that I really did improve. Wishing everyone a wonderful month!

also loved ur ans for 37 in ur prev post and wld love to hear u expand on them (only if u want ofc) like new materialism, disenfranchised grief, bedroom culture sound so interesting
love sociology and regret not doing it last high school 💔
just started vibrating in my chair. ASKING ME 2 TALK ABOUT SOCIOLGOGOYOY HTaknyoujngoaABJFAhWGHHRAAAHH MYGBAWHFOSLB!!! I will go in order of easiest to to most difficult to explain/understand. also sorry for my loser nerd citations im copy pasting my quotes/notes . also sorry this is longer than intended I Love Sharing Quotes
disenfranchised grief or 'gagged grief' "denotes instances of grief in which people ‘incur a loss that is not or cannot be openly acknowledged, publicly mourned or socially supported’ (Doka, 1989: 4; cf. the notion of ‘shameful death’ in Kellehear, 2007)" (Bayatrizi 522).
We talked about this in the context of COVID and how different (marginalized) communities were dis/allowed from usual burial practices, ceremonies, etc. (specifically looking at Iran) so. in this way there are precarious and protected lives, grievable and ungrievable deaths
"Grief presumes the grievability of the dead. ... Precarious life, life that is forgotten and marginalized, is not grievable" (Bayatrizi 524).
it gets into y'know. unequal power relations, biopolitics of saving "our people" (rather than the Other) and necropolitics which was a new term for me!! that's "the 'control of exclusions and death, and fortifying borders' by the state (Díaz-Barriga and Dorsey, 2020: 12; Mbembe, 2003; cf. Foucault, 1978: 137)" (Bayatrizi 524).
I think in general the sociology of death, dying, and bereavement is super interesting and also. really important and topical. so i have tucked this term and reading into my brain !!
bedroom culture was something i was going to research more for a possible honours thesis (SOB) but it's like, studying the bedroom as a domain/space for identity formation, self expression, and (alternative) cultural engagement
it was originally posed by Angela McRobbie in regard to young girls around/after WWII because they were dissuaded from joining street-based cultures due to perceived danger and lack of free time #misogyny #domesticsphere (this is why i said alternative) SO where were they largely living out their cultural lives? the bedroom! insert "teenybopper" culture here
i was thinking about how COVID would impact this since y'know. everyone in bedrooms + speed of trends coming and going + level of consumption and exposure to others' bedrooms (this is a metaphor) + fear/shame/embarrassment + blending public and private + "introduction to structural isolation and for many, establishing political beliefs as they enter a new (unique) stage of their life marked by the pandemic"
and also like. online spaces with personal profiles, blogs, etc. but yknow. didnt get far w any of this. like i wish i could share my thesis question ideas but they're like. not coherent. anyway. yaaaayyy!!!
new materialism is an Up-and-Coming theoretical perspective that as far as i know still lacks a single definition! but:
(from mi class) new materialism — a perspective/way of understanding and seeing the world in which ideas such as agency and capacity or activity can be ascribed to nonhuman entities and people
you're reconfiguring "boundaries of embodiment" (Roberts 20)
"it complicates notions of self, other, and environment in challenging individualistic conceptions of humanness and articulating its transcorporeal character that defies bodily and subjective boundaries of the self; it also problematizes human exceptionalism by embedding humans in the intra-actively constitutive atmospheric, material, and social dynamics of living. (Górska, 2018: 250)" (Roberts 55)
we talked about this in the context of australian wild/bushfires and pregnant mothers (and covid). So like, without a new materialist approach, there's heavy expectation and pressure on the parent to Not breathe in smoke and Keep their baby safe. This can lead to a lot of anxiety, stress, guilt, etc. because ?? You can't. control that a lot of the time.
bUT "The idea that pregnant women control their exposure to smoke as an act of human exceptionalism is unsettled when smoke is conceptualized as a vibrant and intra-active element of the bushfire assemblage" (Roberts 55).
Parts of my reflection assignment:
Roberts’s breath framework *also helps alleviate some of this by imagining how “no human or nonhuman entity is ontologically prior, and instead comes into being in specific sets of intra-relations,” meaning that “[a]gency and responsibility are … distributed as a product of the intra-actions of relata” (55). By reconfiguring my understanding of myself as “‘of ’ rather than ‘in’ the world,” I am able to understand how wider systems and crises interact with and respond to me, and consequently feel less guilt over what first seem like personal failures (56).
(*i also mentioned douglas's cultural theory which "explores practices that “[attempt] to distinguish dirtiness from cleanliness, purity from danger, safety from risk” (518)" but again. "examining air during crises such as COVID-19 and wildfires, we see how the separation of dirt from cleanliness, outside from inside, becomes increasingly unrealistic and impossible.")

Hello Magrida,
I saw that you reblogged my post regarding the issues with Hallie Rubenhold’s book The Five and the toxicity associated with it. I absolutely agree with the hashtags you added to the post. Would you be able to elaborate or share further thoughts on this, please? They may be helpful in attempting to understand how Rubenhold reached her conclusions. They also may be helpful in deconstructing her claims about the Canonical Five Ripper victims.
Any help you can offer is appreciated.
Thank you.
Linotte
Of course! A lot of this is half remembered from the days when Hulu's Harlots was airing, so I'm going off of memory, because I was following a few sex workers at the time who REALLY hated...well. A lot of her views on sex work. I know that you know a lot of what I'm about to say, but I also know that, frankly, there has been so much muddying of the waters in the last decade that I KNOW people are going to think less of me for (1) Admitting an interest in the crimes in the first place and (2) not buying (most of) the revisionist argument.
(For the curious: The tags)
#rubenhold has a lot of baggage around lower class sex workers that she REALLY needs to unpack#‘they weren’t prostitutes! see look they were Worth Something!’#I don’t think she MEANS to do it but there’s this DEEP disdain for lower class sex workers that shines through her writing#that it somehow debases them#as opposed to society debasing sex work#and sex workers#(and this streak runs through her other work as well)
First, let's get this much out of the way: I consider myself to be a proud feminist. I won't claim to be a PERFECT one, but I do, at the end of the day, consider myself to be a feminist who uses a feminist lens when I'm looking at material from my field. I am not doing it for show or because it's trendy; I am often the *only person* at conferences talking about female characters.
I ALSO have had an interest in the study of Ripperology since I was 12 years old. I do not consider these things to be mutually exclusive. My approach has always been to center the victims, but I also think that people are often too hard on people, particularly women, who are interested in historic crimes or tragedies. (For modern true crime, where the families are still alive, I think it's a little more complicated, but I've also read some interesting like. Articles and book chapters on the appeal of serial killers in the 21st century.) And I think the Whitechapel murders are interesting in the sense that, beyond the Whodunnit angle...it is the prototype for so much of how we view serial killers and female victims in particular. It is a vital part of pop culture, even if I think that, in an ideal world, I'd have never had to have memorized the victims' names because they would have led perfectly normal lives and died of old age. I feel like people are inclined to mistake the study of the crimes with the monetization of the crimes, and while there is an overlap, of course, in that both of them stem from the Whitechapel Murders' prominence in pop culture, I think that people are inclined to apply a moral value to the former that is unnecessary. (I see people use the term "Ripperologists" so snottily and...you do realize who the people are who did the research you're using to dismiss them with, right?) Would I consider MYSELF a Ripperologist? Complicated, but I consider myself to have more in common with ripperologists than not, certainly, even if I always emphasize that my approach is victim-centric.
Every single year, on November 9, I think to myself that I've lived another year longer than Mary Kelly did...and I dread the year when I catch up with another one of the victims. And another. And another. When I first learned her name, she seemed so infinitely older than me, a Real Adult. I hadn't realized yet that I'd already lived nearly half the life that she was allowed to. That there was so much she should have been allowed to do and to live and she just. Wasn't allowed to. (There's something, additionally, to be said for the general romanticism around Mary as the youngest and most conventionally attractive of the victims, but that's for another day.)
Again, that was a lot to say a little, but I want to emphasize that my approach has MORE in common with Rubenhold's than not, and so I SHOULD be a fan, but I can't. Mainly because her feminism reads, to me, as being a specific brand of extremely middle class and white British feminism (And I also think that she tries TOO HARD to market herself as The #Feminist Historian while not really...PRACTICING intersectional feminism, but that might just be me.)
To begin with, I know that as of early last year, she was following notorious TERF Julie Bindel on her Twitter. When I checked it this evening, I didn't see it on her Twitter, but Twitter is also a fucking wreck now so I can't be sure. She does still follow this....lovely account. Overall, I would say that she has a more than incidental tie to the British radfem movement, which REALLY comes out when she talks about sex work.
Tumblr media
In her book on the authorship of Harris' list, we get...some interesting descriptions. I think she defended her writing style somewhere, but frankly, a little Rubenhold goes a long way, so you might have to track that down.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For what it's worth, in the interest of nuance, I truly don't think that these are her ACTUAL thoughts on her subject, and elsewhere, she makes it clear how disgusted she was with 18th century men in general. That being said...I think that sometimes she lets rhetoric and descriptive writing take the wheel, as opposed to simply recounting the facts, and that gives the appearance of...whatever the fuck that is. (You would never catch me dead, in an allegedly non-fiction publication, referring to women as nymphs or whores, I'm sorry.) Do I think she's a BAD person? ...I don't know her. I don't have this parasocial relationship with her that people on both sides of the aisle seem to have, but on a professional level I'd appreciate it if she just did her job, because sometimes I think she lets her sources biases infect her writing. (And that she'd stick to writing historical fiction, since that's what she does when she's writing nonfiction anyway.)
This streak really comes out with Annie Chapman, with her quote that: "Annie needn’t have suffered. At every turn there had been a hand reaching to pull her from the abyss, but the counter-tug of addiction was more forceful, and the grip of shame just as strong. It was this that pulled her under, that had extinguished her hope and then her life many years earlier. What her murderer claimed on that night was simply all that remained of what drink had left behind."
Annie Chapman was a woman who suffered from an addiction and was murdered by a misogynist. He did not claim a "what", he murdered a person. In a brutal, dehumanizing way. Her body was picked apart, both in her very final moment and then, postmortem, for centuries. Her life had value. It's ASTONISHING to me that she thinks that the way to redeem the victims is to reject the claim that they were fallen women who had it coming...while demonizing addiction. That isn't feminism to me. It's meant to come off as empathetic but comes off as, frankly, really fucking condescending.
It also goes into how the book was marketed BY Rubenhold:
The stories of these women are each extraordinary and unique, and for nearly 130 years the media has over-simplified their true histories. The Five have always been regarded as society’s waste – filthy, ruined, pitiful drink-sodden whores, yet not one of them began life this way and none of them came from the East End. They were from Sweden, Wales, (she was IRISH and a religious minority in nineteenth century England, leave her name out of your fucking mouth) the Midlands. Their fathers and husbands were printers, carpenters, gentleman’s valets, coachmen, and soldiers in the Queen’s Life Guard. Their daughters attended fee-paying schools, their fathers-in-law were property developers. They glimpsed Queen Victoria and rubbed shoulders with Charles Dickens. The Five seeks to restore these women their humanity and reclaim the Jack the Ripper narrative in favour of his victims.
She and her followers have a particular love of using the word "whore", I've noticed. (Note: The framing of her as an innocent victim to evil male Ripperologists who SO BADLY want to victim blame the women, unlike our feminist saint.)
Tumblr media
But also...what if they didn't? What if they didn't write ballads? Or rub shoulders with Charles Dickens? If their daughters didn't attend fee paying schools? Is their humanity less reclaimed if they didn't meet middle class standards of achievement? If they were just....women who were going through a tough time? Like plenty of other women did? The bare facts of the women's lives have been public domain for years now, uncovered by the same people she despises so much. It's all out there. So much of this grand, shiny evidence she's discovered is...well. Historical fiction.
Again, do I think she's a BAD person? What does it even mean to be a bad person? But I do think that there's a difference, in her writing, between lower class sex workers and upper class sex workers that does become a little apparent. Do I think she MEANS to do it? No. Do I think she was the right person to write this specific book and to have this specific thesis? Also no. And do I think it's surprising that a certain brand of self-proclaimed history nerd who will ask things like "okay, but what about the NON-GIRLBOSS women" will love her work? Also no, because it's very appealing if the Whitechapel victims were literally murdered while they were asleep and therefore as vulnerable and lacking in agency as possible, regardless of the known facts of the case. Mary Kelly might have invited a man to her room to have transactional sex. It didn't mean she deserved to be killed. ESPECIALLY in the brutal way she was murdered.
Again, a lot of this is half-remembered from the glory days of Harlots, but if you dig through some of the blogs that were popular then, you might have luck. I've seen your posts on other social media and I'm very interested in your project if it goes through.

5 Techniques of Every Successful Student
key takeaways:
★ background:
main theme: build the bigger picture first
he talks about trends he notices between his students that are successful vs unsuccessful
threshold concepts: refers to core concepts in a subject where understanding these concepts is key to transforming the way students understand a whole subject.
a threshold concept can be described as transformative (a significant shift in understanding), probably irreversible (difficult to unlearn), integrative (reveals the association between various topics), sometimes bounded (specific to a particular discipline), and potentially troublesome (difficult to grasp, counter-intuitive)
in simple terms: provides a barrier to allow someone to see and understand a topic in a way they were never able to before
example of experiencing a threshold concept is stumbling over a block in the dark and you're suddenly lost and confused, you don't know where you are- disorientated. like when you're listening to the teacher and suddenly, you don't know what they're talking about anymore. when you're reading a book and you don't know what you just read. you lost your way and you don't know how you lost your way.
what we want is to have lightbulb moments more frequently. have more control to increase the speed of our learning. we want to be able ot overcome these threshold concepts as quickly as possible to become a learner who just gets things a lot faster
in order to do that: we fundamentally need to understand: there are a few fundamentals to learning that affects the student.
★ learning
learning is recursive. learning something once and relearning it over and over again. not that we didn't understand it the first time but it's better and easier to understand when you've known the basics/the foundation of. the bigger picture.
and excursive. a learning journey that has allowances for diversions. you can progress through the material and you don't always have to go in a linear line, you can go back and forth, have multiple different ways of learning something. take diversions and side routes to get to the same place of understanding the concept.
what are some techniques that allows us to engage in active learning in a sustainable, consistent way that anyone can start applying?
it's not the techniques itself but the trends they follow aka crafting the bigger picture.
★ attributes of a good learner
1. priming
pre-study. instead of looking a piece of text and learning it, top from bottom straight away. scan it to get a general understanding.
mentally create a framework on how to think about it instead of what to know. read the heading, images, diagrams, questions.
create a mind map on how the big pictures connect to one another.
don't worry about the details.
big picture = easier lightbulb moments = faster threshold concept = faster learning.
2. how to stay active and attentive while in the class:
for those who start to feel drowsy, sleepy, unable to pay attention. think about needing to be aware if someone is about to throw a ball at you. with information, you have to be ready to catch that information that you are consuming.
ask questions, aloud or inside your mind. lots of questions. questions every minute. if you ask a HOW and WHY question, it causes us to relate that question at a higher mastery of knowledge. not only do you want/need to understand a single concept but the relationship that, that has with other multiple related concepts to see how does it fit together.
3. revision within 12 hours of the initial learning event.
the longer you wait, the higher risk that you're going to forget. you reap higher benefits if you were to review the same day rather than 2 days ahead .
reviewing the same day also maximizes SDMC (sleep dependent memory consolidation) aka "studying while you're asleep" your neural pathways that were active during your learning session repeat while you're asleep. think of it as rewinding a tape. this action in the brain causes neural pathways to strengthen with this repetition.
the way you review is important. make sure it highlights, again, the big picture. chunking aka taking the pieces of information from your learning session and priming to connect it all together. like a puzzle. creating a mind map is a good way to do this.
don't try to use too many words. if you don't use words in your notes, this activates parts of the brain that normally would not be activated if you were to use words. make words and sentences a last resort.
make it reasonably minimal. learning comes naturally and authentically. you don't need to write so many notes (ironic bc i'm... taking... notes....). humans are naturally good at learning. adapting. writing too many notes actually reduces cognitive load. aka the confusion we get. confusion is actually good for us. not too much but not too little either.
4. delayed note taking.
instead of taking notes right away, hold it off. keep the information in our heads a bit, think about it, let that confusion come in and let the brain do it's thing. asking those how and why questions
skip the paraphrasing and have simplified notes. in our head, not on paper. it helps the brain to rely on itself rather than on paper. when we get rid of that fear of having to write constantly in order to learn we unlock a huge opportunity for effective learning
5. pre-exam revision.
examine the topics that are most challenging to you. the things you feel the weakest on. make it challenging in a meaningful way. recall it instead of recognizing it.
learn in a way that is different each time. this is the best way to test your knowledge and connection to the subject. if you learn something in the same way every time, you saturate that technique to it's ability. and therefore, you won't have any room to improve/effectively learn.
for example, instead of rereading your notes, try to rewrite them or draw diagrams from your current knowledge aka recall.
another example of a technique is the feyman technique.

It's not a terribly unreasonable interpretation, to be honest. Gifted Kid programs are a lot more likely to have meaningful funding at schools that are mostly in wealthier and whiter districts, and correlate with Privilege. Kids from more Privileged backgrounds are more likely to be identified as Gifted, where the same traits in a less-privileged kid are more likely to get them labeled as Troublesome. Schools without a budget for a Gifted & Talented program still have Detention available for the under-challenged kids who start acting out.
I went to an upper middle class dominated Catholic school through 8th grade, and while they were making a lot of the G&T stuff up on the fly (it was the 70s, the idea was still relatively new in my area), I always knew I was part of the Gifted Kids group and they did what they could to keep us challenged and supported. Then I hit public school in 9th grade in the poorer part of town, and there was nothing. I actually repeated some material because the school (which was 7th to 9th grade due to irregularities in the school capacities at the time) had no facilities to let me go on to the next year of study in some areas. Then I hit the 10-12 public high school which did have a sort of ancestor of AP classes available, but the explicit G&T program only existed because of a single teacher pushing hard to be allowed to run it.
So, yeah. I can certainly see how just having a Gifted & Talented program at your school, much less getting put into it, can be seen as Privilege. There were almost definitely kids in 9th grade with me who were just as talented, but never got into the proto-AP courses because they'd already been dropped on the Troublemaker Track thanks to the color of their skin or the fact they spoke Spanish at home, instead of their boredom-related acting out being correctly identified as a sign of needing more challenge.
And, of course, even if the G&T kid has enough privilege to get into a good college that will challenge them? Let's just say that college tends to toss everyone in the deep end in terms of "running the rest of your life" skills, at which point the kid who was in Calculus 2 in high school finds they can't run their day to day life without the structure of parents and high school and everything comes crashing down. (Colleges are starting to work on this side of things, but it's too late for Former Gifted Kids who are already past college age.)
ohhhhh I get it now. the "gifted kid" discourse exists because people see it fundamentally as a sign of Privilege and not as a largely meaningless category that puffs up weird children before setting them up for the same unremarkable lives as everyone else; thus they interpret people going "the educational system gave me false expectations before ultimately abandoning me to the same heartless world as everyone else" as "why am I, The Main Character, not getting everything I ever wanted."

Luxury Ceiling Fans with Remote Control: Combining Convenience and Class
Tumblr media
In the evolving world of home interiors, ceiling fans are no longer just a practical necessity—they’re now a statement of luxury and innovation. Today’s luxury ceiling fans with remote control go beyond basic air circulation; they offer cutting-edge technology, designer finishes, energy efficiency, and above all, the convenience of effortless control at your fingertips.
Whether you’re upgrading your bedroom, enhancing your living room, or designing a smart home, a luxury fan adds both comfort and a touch of sophistication. In this blog, we’ll explore how remote-controlled luxury fans are redefining comfort, their top features, and some of the best models to consider.
Why Choose a Luxury Ceiling Fan with Remote Control?
Modern homes are all about style, smart living, and energy consciousness. Remote-controlled ceiling fans sit right at this intersection.
1. Ease of Use
No more getting up to adjust fan speed. With just a click of a button or a tap on your phone, you can control speed, lighting (if included), and even timer settings.
2. Enhanced Aesthetics
Luxury fans are often designed by top designers and architects, making them eye-catching décor elements that elevate the look of any space.
3. Advanced Features
From BLDC motors that reduce power consumption to smart home integration (Alexa, Google Home), these fans are packed with technology.
4. Silent and Smooth Performance
Premium fans are built to deliver whisper-quiet operation—ideal for bedrooms, study areas, and lounges.
5. Integrated Lighting
Many luxury fans double as lighting fixtures, with built-in LED lamps offering both ambience and utility.
Where Luxury Fans Make a Difference
Living Room: Impress guests with a centerpiece that combines form and function.
Master Bedroom: Enjoy peaceful nights with noiseless airflow and remote access.
Home Office: Smart control helps adjust comfort without interrupting your workflow.
Luxury Villas or Hotels: Add elegance and automation for an upscale experience.
Key Features to Look For
If you're shopping for a luxury remote-controlled fan, here are the features that define the best:
1. Remote and App Control
Look for fans that come with an ergonomic remote or smartphone app that allows:
Speed control
On/Off switching
Timer/sleep mode
Light dimming (for fans with integrated lights)
2. BLDC Motor
Fans with Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) motors consume less energy and offer quieter operation, saving up to 65% on power bills.
3. Smart Connectivity
Wi-Fi or Bluetooth-enabled fans that can be paired with Alexa, Google Assistant, or Siri are a major convenience booster.
4. Reversible Function
Useful for winters—this feature reverses airflow direction to distribute warm air evenly in the room.
5. Premium Finishes
From matte black to rose gold, teak wood to chrome, these fans often feature luxe materials and designer finishes.
Choosing the Right Fan for Your Space
When selecting a luxury ceiling fan, consider the following:
Room Size:
Up to 75 sq. ft – 36" blade span
76–144 sq. ft – 42" to 48"
Over 144 sq. ft – 52" or more
Ceiling Height: Use downrods for high ceilings, or flush-mount for low ceilings.
Décor Style: Match finishes (wood, chrome, matte black) with furniture and color palette.
Functionality vs. Aesthetics: Some fans lean heavily into design, while others balance power and performance better.
Care and Maintenance
Luxury fans are built to last, but proper care enhances longevity:
Dust regularly using microfiber cloth or fan blade cleaner
Avoid water or harsh cleaners on finishes
Check for loose screws or wobble periodically
Replace remote batteries every 6–12 months
Are Luxury Fans Worth the Price?
Absolutely—if you value:
Convenience (remote + smart control)
Energy savings (BLDC motors)
Stylish design that elevates your interiors
Quiet performance and enhanced comfort
While they come at a premium, luxury ceiling fans are a long-term investment that adds functionality and aesthetic value to your space.
Where to Buy
Online Retailers: Amazon, Flipkart
Offline Showrooms: Croma, Reliance Digital, HomeTown, branded experience centers
Custom Installers: For high-end or imported fans like Haiku or Fanimation
Final Thoughts
A ceiling fan may seem like a simple household fixture, but a luxury remote-controlled fan is so much more—it’s a blend of elegance, technology, and smart convenience. Whether you want to impress guests, sleep more comfortably, or simplify your everyday routine, investing in a stylish, feature-packed fan is a decision you won’t regret.
From smart features and aesthetic finishes to energy efficiency and silent operation, today’s modern luxury ceiling fans redefine what it means to live comfortably and stylishly.
