Slamming the monotone textbook of your nightmares closed and shoving it to the opposite side of the oaken table, you breathe a sigh of frustration. Four hours you’ve been trying, 240 minutes of your life spent in a lonely library struggling to grasp the difference between a correlation matrix and covariance matrix. If someone told you when you picked psychology that you’d be sacrificing your Christmas to study for some pathetic quantitative methodologies’ module, you would have switched your career pathway to dogwalker.

Unfortunately, you aren’t a bloody psychic so here you sit with red rimmed eyes, frizzing hair from repeatedly tugging at it, and longing for being home watching The Polar Express. A string of swears partnered with the shuffling of papers acted as your soundtrack for the next few minutes as you attempted to build back up your confidence.

“You made it this far; you can do this! Once this module is done, you can get a pint and burn your calculator.”

Just as you leant to grab the textbook, a voice broke through your bubble of academic frustration.

“Don’t think you’d get very far burning a calculator after a few pints, I’ve seen how you handle your alcohol.”

Jumping backwards in your chair, eyes frantically assessing the source of the teasing words. There he stood, Michael Gavey. You had only met him in once during Freshers, but after minimal contact with him, you understood that he looked down on your choice of degree. Mutterings of how it is a pointless degree for vapid girls who would become housewives or receptionists within years of graduation. Mousy hair that had no clear style, smudged glasses, and an oversized maroon jumper that made him appear wider than usual.

Perhaps it was your lack of sleep, but Michael Gavey seemed to be far better looking than before.

“What the fuck Gavey?! Could have given me a heart attack, and I know you are smart but you aren’t a bloody doctor.” Clutching your chest to emphasise the theatrics of your startled self, a small huff left your person with the final word.

With a soft chuckle, the lanky boy slid into the chair opposite before resting his judgmental eyes on your figure. Assessing your appearance as if you were one of his equations. Those denim blues flickering between you and the scattered papers filled with incorrect or half-complete statistical equations.

Moments passed in silence, and with each second you grew more agitated with the piercing gaze from the bespectacled boy. “What are you even doing here Gavey? Is Christmas too simple and mainstream for you to celebrate?”

“I would ask you the same question, but from what I recall you seem to embrace the simple. Or does that only apply to your choice in degree?”

That fleeting thought of attraction was zapped from the air as his words bit at your confidence. Usually, a quick-witted response would fall from your lips, but after days of struggling, it was difficult to view yourself as anything but a student heading towards failure.

It was clear to tell the atmosphere had shifted, a tense weight fell between the pair of you. Watching as his calculated smirk fell, understanding that perhaps his words might not have been appreciated in this moment.

“What do you want Michael? I’m too busy to be belittled today.”

“Well, I was planning on asking you to be quiet. I’ve had to listen to your ridiculous murmurings for the past 2 hours. Not to mention the constant echoing of you abusing those poor books.” Straightening himself in the padded wooden seat, attempting to appear unphased by how defeated your voice sounded.

Even though Michael would never admit to it, he always harboured a modest crush on you. He remembers the way you walked around the different Fresher events with such confidence, despite not knowing anyone prior to starting University. Eyes following your figure as you made the rounds before making your way to his table of one. That was when he messed up. Something about your presence made any semblance of a filter disappear, and the insults flew from his lips before he could bite the words down. All he could do was stare as that kind spark in your eyes faltered and you muttered a discouraged goodbye before walking away from his lonely table.

Since that day, he kept an eye out for you. Never once daring to speak again, but always glancing at your corner table during dinnertime just to catch a glimpse of that jubilant smile. Yes, he thought any subject outside of mathematics-based degrees were pointless to society. Although for some reason, he never wanted you to feel anything less for your choice of pathway. Everyone else on your course might be a half-wit, but not you. Never you.

Suddenly feeling sheepish, you make a move to pack away. “Oh, I apologise. Truthfully, I thought I was the only one who stayed back for Christmas break.”

Hand reaching across to grab the textbook currently resting before the boy, you were met halfway by a larger colder hand. “Don’t leave on my account, especially before I can explain to you the different applications of correlation matrixes.”

Rearranging the position of his chair to minimise the space between the both of you, as he fumbled through your plethora of mock questions and attempted answers. All whilst your mouth parted with puzzlement, leaving you to watch his movement with questioning eyes.

“Why in the world would you help me?”

“Figures it could balance out my karma for slagging your subject. Plus, I can’t sit here knowing you are desecrating maths and not intervene.”

And with the rippling sounds of the pages followed by the subtle knock of the textbook cover, the pair of you began an unlikely partnership.

Monday the 18th of December

The next seven days were spent in that secluded corner of the century-old building with Michael explaining statistical concepts in his velvety tones. At the start, he found it difficult to not mark his superiority or mock your questions that seemed elementary to him. Eventually, he grew to understand that you really did care about understanding the methods entirely, and that your questions spawned from craving knowledge rather than sheer stupidity. Awkward explanations turned into two-way conversations during study breaks, and silly jokes. If anyone were to enter the library, they would hear the duo of laughs ricochet off the walls of books. Perhaps they would think that two friends were sharing inside jokes, but if anyone saw the pair of you, they would see two fools infatuated with one another.

It was true, within the past week Michael’s crush only grew and you started to realise that Michael might be the unexpected highlight of university. Since Freshers, you felt drawn to him, and maybe at the start it was purely a physical attraction that was shut down by his mean-spirited comments. But this version of Michael, where he feels comfortable and lets down his arrogant guard, this is the boy that you wish you’d known from the beginning. Heart fluttering when he praises you, chest aching from giggles at his nerdy jokes, and fingertips lingering slightly too long on his veiny hand.

As the snow falls outside, the pair of you sat with only the sound of your nervous drumming and the scratch of Michael’s pen across your mock examination. Studying his side profile, getting lost in the way his lips purse with satisfaction when he ticks off a correct answer, if you didn’t know better, you’d say he was proud of you. Several moments trickled by in silence, waiting in anticipation to see whether the hours spent together had actually taught you anything. There was the unspoken discomfort of what happens next. If you had passed with flying colours, does that mean you and him go back to strangers? Could you pretend to be less than friends again with all these newfound feelings? Truthfully, part of you wished you failed so he would have to keep tutoring you.

“And you did it. Congratulations, you have officially conquered statistics.” Sliding across the paper marked 86% with a little smile into your expectant hands. Those stormy blues meeting yours to watch the excitement unfold.

“I did it? Oh my god, I did it!”

Waving the paper in the air before bringing it to your chest, eyes sparkling with happiness as the weight of failure floats off your shoulders. Michael could only match your exuberant smile, leaning his chiselled chin on the palm of his hand to watch the subject of his dreams glitter in front of him. He knew the doubts that clouded your judgement were bullshit. In his eyes you were almost as smart as him, only in a different way. Watching your seated celebrations as he commits the image to memory, with fear of today being the last day of closeness between you two. Michael half expected you to drop him after realising you understood the concepts. That you would finally recognise you are worth more than someone like him. Someone of a higher class, someone more muscular, someone who isn’t a social pariah.

Those thoughts were halted by the feel of your jumper-clad arms being thrown around his neck, drawing him close. Snapping out of his daydream just as you bridged the gap between your lush lips and his own. Michael felt you melt into him, arms softening in their hold but your lips still continuing the connection with passion. This kiss was all consuming, built up with each second of vulnerability shown throughout the moments together. He noted that you tasted like spearmint gum, and it perfectly complimented the constant chocolate that lurked on his tastebuds.

Somehow it felt like the pair of you were joined for eternity, feeling as if the cool of his lens would be ingrained on your skin. Reluctantly the two young students separated, faces flushed and chests heaving in a desperate attempt to fill your lungs. The realisation of your bold move flashed in your brain, panic arising in your stomach at all the possible scenarios that could happen next, but those fears settled as you saw the soft look hidden behind those glasses.

“Thank you, Michael. I couldn’t have done any of this without you.”

“Well, it does help that I’m a mathematical genius. But truthfully, I’ve enjoyed teaching you and would happily continue our study sessions.” Despite his clear words, Michael was still recovering from the shockwaves in his body from the taste of you on his lips. Mentally he was cringing at his entirely unromantic words, but all you did was smile.

“As much as I would like that, I’d prefer if our relationship went beyond studying? Perhaps we could go for a celebratory pint or get dinner together.” Awkwardly twiddling the hem of his sweater between your fingertips as you avoided his eyeline. “You know, like a date? Only if you would be happy with that, of course.”

“I’ve come to realise that if I was a correlation matrix, and you’d be the variable that’s highly correlated with my happiness. So yes, I’d love to take YOU on a date”

Laughter erupted in your belly at his cheesy line, and he fought the urge to pull in for another kiss. Instead, he chose to intertwine your warm hands with his. “A genius, a gentleman, a teacher, and now a comedian? You, Michael Gavey, are an adventure I can’t wait to explore.”

I have a question AGAIN! (I feel like I flit about your inbox a lot, mb) But lately I've been,, thinking of something. I'm into Greek myth and I know you're decently familiar with it, and there's just been something bothering me.

I don't remember the last time I saw an Ares who wasn't dark-skinned or Black/Black-coded. In theory, I think it's fine to make mythological characters look like whatever, but it sort of bugs me. I feel like a LOT of artists make him Black, and I just can't help but see the correlation between the god of war who has a somewhat adulterous relationship with the goddess of love and lust, being depicted as a Black man, when Black men are already stereotyped as violent, thuggish and over sexualised.

But when I consider this, I also feel like Black Ares is somewhat embedded in the artist community, to the point in my head it would almost feel like whitewashing if i happened to draw him and NOT make him Black, although the connotations Black Ares carries makes me uncomfortable. And there are probably Black artists out there who like Ares and want him to look like them! ig it's sort of just a weird conundrum, where I kind of wanted to hear mods opinion.

I will admit that my view of Greek Classics fan spaces is heavily biased by my continuing disgust for their rampant antiblackness and the different forms it has taken (dare I say, like a hydra), and I very rarely willingly choose to jump in to see creations- so if it reaches me, it reaches me (literally every time I share a Good Piece, my for you gets filled with Mediocre to Racist pieces). So I cannot say that I've always seen Ares as Black as a pattern, bc I don't see his art much at all.

HOWEVER, you are not wrong in your concerns! Remember, while there is nothing wrong with having a Black character be "problematic", the reasons WHY people are more comfortable choosing certain problematic depictions to "allow" Black characters to be, versus others, can make quite plain what types of messages people either believe, or are willing to ignore and let slide.

Why is it easier for you to see this character as Black, versus the others? Did you think about what you were doing, with this depiction? Did you add any depth to it; were you trying to say something about this, were you trying to subvert something (and failed)? Because, if we go with that depiction of Ares (of the bad things) there are SO many symbolic reasons him being white works very well.

Now I've been in that space and... Well, as a Black creator, it is clear they aren't gonna listen to my ass, and I'm not trying to Matrix dodge all those inane bullets from people determined to enjoy their racism. Nonetheless, it's worth a shot! Try seeing what happens if you speak up, if you question.

Also, when you create your Ares pieces, the same thought process applies to you! If you don't want Ares to be Black because of those negative connotations, who do you want to be Black? Why is that better? Is there a way for you to understand his story for him to be Black, without being stereotypical (which, yes, I could also do). The Black artists creating Black Ares have probably thought about this.

You may have a point there, but I wouldn't say "killed". It's more of a domino effect of separate accounts, like what would happen in real life, and was put on pause. The SMG4 universe, which happened to exist in GMod, isn't directly correlated to the SMG4 channel. But they do affect one another.

TL;DR 4 didn't die, but he might've thought he did. (Aside from internal guilt and suppressed trauma also affected him.)

You kinda have to dip yourself into real-life copyright law for this one, but basically, when a copyright alert comes in, it comes with a set of conditions to make it right bc taking it to court is a serious thing. Especially with big corporations that don't want to deal with the hassle/publicity. Based on what I can tell in the Lawsuit arc, the channel wasn't allowed to make more content with Nintendo's IP. The conditions, at the very least, is for the channel to remove all the videos containing said IP. Sure, the channel could do that, maybe make other content, and the SMG4 Universe would be fine for personal use (not on YT).

That's how it works irl. But in their universe:

They depend on the channel for time to pass, to advance the narrative. Otherwise, they're stuck on pause/the same day.

In the Lawsuit Arc, when the channel gets deleted, every original character can't be "used" anymore but their models weren't outright deleted forever. Because if the channel can tell the narrative, then there's no need for their models to be used. So, not killed. More like they're asleep. (Besides, it would require Nintendo to file a separate order for GMod to delete their models anyway)

But I can see where the "killed" part might've come from: the "sleeping beauty" logic. If a person is in deep sleep or in a coma for so long, are they truly alive anymore? Or are they slowly dying? It pretty much applies here. 4 came back with his model and memories still intact, but when his character wasn't used, he couldn't tell if he was truly dead.

Ask yourselves if you could tell the difference between being unconscious, under a coma, and near death. It's not as simple, huh? That's why the fear of death/the unknown is developed, philosophy about the afterlife or the matrix exists.

So, 4 didn't die, but it was as close as he could possibly get.

I won't consider the 4th wall breaks since those moments are played off as part of a bit. The intention behind a moment could mean a lot, It's how character deaths and stakes in the plot are taken seriously. As if their lives depended on it.

For 4 to accept his fate, a lot of factors behind it do come into play. His guilt, suppressed trauma. And as far as I can tell, the Lawsuit arc could be another one. Plus, if he was dead, it kinda applies that all the other characters that weren't Nintendo IP also experienced death soooooo *shrug*

idk those are my initial thoughts on this, so it probably made no sense, but it's what I could offer to yall now.

Some more Lies of P translation notes!

Some cool translation details that I thought were fun that didn't fit anywhere else.

In the Korean version, Geppetto is speaking an "old-fashioned"/archaic form of Korean to reflect the time period that the game is set in

Set around the turn of the century (late 1800s), mimicking the Belle Époque of France's industrial revolution, we can guess that the game's events take place during the late 1800s. Given Geppetto's status as "old geezer", we can guess that he's closer to 100 than not, so he would have been born around the early 1800s. I might not be completely accurate - basically, he's speaking as an elderly person might speak in current time to culturally reflect his age; other times I notice he's using some words that are now out of use.

From the game's initial trailer:

깨어나거라, 아들아. 이제 이 아비를 기쁘게 해다오. Wake up, son. Make this father happy/proud.

The word he uses for "father" is "Abi" (아비), which is an archaic word for "father". In current day, korean speakers would generally use "Abeoji" (아버지).

The -gura(거라)/-DaOh(다오) conjugation is also an additional syllable that has since fallen out of use, or is considered archaic, in current korean:

아들아, 네 심장을 다오. Son, give me your heart.

하지만 알아 다오, 나는 너도 사랑했단다. But know this, I loved you too. English VA version: In my own way, I grew to love you.

This is also apparent in Geppetto's final letter at the end:

우릴 방해할 자는 이제 없을 거란다. 너를 위한 크라트를 다시 만들어주마. (-juma, Supposedly, only a "superior" speaker can use -juma) 그때까지 호텔에 조심해서 머물러 다오. 너를 누구보다도 아끼는 아버지가.

He also uses the -Oh ending again. (although he does call himself "Abeoji" 아버지 here and not "abi" like the trailer. He uses "Abi" again in another instance when responding to a guesture)

It's a very cool detail to me. I think it's a bit missed opportunity that, as far as I know, the english version doesn't seem to reflect this! Although to be fair, I'm struggling to imagine how they would. 19th century english/french maybe isn't as different or isn't different in the same ways from "modern" english that 19th century Korean would be from "modern" Korean. [Well, my only education on this stuff is from watching episodes of Dae Jang Geum]. I haven't checked to see if any other character (like Antonia) speaks this way. [Pls message me if Geppetto also speaks like this in your or any other language version!!]

Lies of P, Blood, puns, and the P-Organ

The P-Organ, in Korean, is referred to as the P기관. 기관 (gi-gwan), however, doesn't necessarily correlate directly to the word "Organ": It's quite an interesting word to choose because it can refer to any system of moving parts, both organic or mechanical; and it can mean an organ, a machine, or even a governmental body or institute.

As you may have heard by now, the game's titular pun revolves around the fact that the english character for P sounds the word for "blood" in korean (피), making the title (P의 거짓 P-ie Geojit?) read like Lies of Blood, in a nutshell. The title Lies of Blood then fits into the becoming-real flesh-and-blood themes of the game, perhaps also suggests that the deception in Krat has cost the lives of many - and, of course, references the lying of the titular character, who is inferred to be none other than (P)inocchio! So, in Korean, the P-Organ (P기관) becomes something like the Blood Engine. Which rather sounds like a euphemism for a heart!

[Perhaps: It's also a bit of narrative that Geppetto refuses to refer to it as our heart, unless he refers to it as belonging to Carlo.]

In English, this wordplay no longer exists, and so it's rather awkwardly literally translated (as the P-Organ).

How do you say, "NEOWIZ"?

I've seen a few people ask about the pronunciation of NEOWIZ (Lies' publishing company). Hangul is phonetic, so you could (technically) say the official pronunciation of NEOWIZ (네오위즈) is Nae-Oh Wiz and not Neo (like the Matrix character) -wiz.

However [in my opinion], I don't think this matters, because when something is translated to another language, it often takes the pronunciation of the language it is read in. Kind of like how in english you would read the capital of France correctly as Paris (with an S sound at the end), and not "Pari" (french pronunciation).

Also, Krat is consistently pronounced by in-game characters as "Krot" (Long O, rhymes with "Cot" or "Not") in the english version. In the game korean releases, "Krat" is written as 크라트, which would be pronounced and read as "Krat" (short A, rhymes with "Rat" or "Cat").

[I think the devs also say "Krat" too. The rounder "O" pronunciation of "A" in words seem like more of a European pronunciation in general]

The "Youngest of the Black Rabbit Brotherhood" and Gender

In Korean culture, Age is particularly significant in both Korean social hierarchy and language, and the role/position of being the youngest in a group is a particular role known as being the "maknae" (I mean, I definitely think this also exists in the western world, people definitely would understand being the "youngest" one in your family, but it's slightly different from that).

Despite being a member of the brotherhood, she refers to her brothers as "Oppa", which is when the word "brother" is used by female speakers to an older male subject (Remember Gangnam style?) [A male speaker would use "Hyung". I debated putting this one in, because to me, it seemed kind of obvious, but I did see others asking about this.]

[Given that the developers are from a korean studio, I am choosing to believe that the subtitles provided by the game's "korean" version are the text/script as originally written intended by the developers!]

And the lineup of powers as we first hear about them in BotW was from Rotana, who said that they were: "skill, spirit, endurance, knowledge, flight, motion, & gentleness."

However, the Stelae themselves write it out as "heart, skill, fortitude, wisdom, flight, mobility, & compassion."

Remember that this was supposedly left by the Heroines themselves, making it akin to a first hand account, I believe?

And, luckily, the difference is easily explained by the legend having been told multiple times over generations. As they can be condensed like this:

Heart/spirit, skill, fortitude/endurance, wisdom/knowledge, flight, mobility/motion, & compassion/gentleness.

I also looked up what kanji were used in the original text just in-case & this is ultimately my conclusion to it all with the order of both the Stelaes' list of powers, the symbols at both the ruins & in the shelter, & the gifts left at the underground altar:

Heart; Shin (心; means heart, spirit, or mind) = ❜ = Gerudo Shield

Skill; Gi (技; means skill or technique) = Λ = Golden Claymore

Fortitude; Tai (耐; means endure or resist) = O = Ruby

Wisdom; Chi (知; means knowledge or wisdom) = : = Sapphire

Flight; Hi (飛; means flight) = ⎎ = Topaz

Mobility; Dō (動; means motion) = Drop Sign = Gerudo Scimitar

Compassion; Jū (柔; means gentleness or softness) = ǁ = Gerudo Spear

Though, I noticed that the weapon missing from this line-up is the Golden Bow. But, then again, it's possible that one of the Heroines that gave a gem might've used one. Possibly the Heroine of Flight. I mean, Hi (飛) is evidently used in verbs referring to “letting something fly,” so that might well be it.

Similarly, I believe that the kanji that I paired with the fortitide also is correct as the kanji is used in the term taika (耐火) which means “fire-proof.” Ergo, the ruby. Similarly, jū (柔) is the kanji used for jūdō. So, if I'm right, then I think it suggests that the Heroine of Compassion might've been a master of Sōjutsu (the art of the spear). Or whatever the Gerudo equivalent of such might be.

And part of the reason why I believe that Misko might be related to the Heroines is due to their name in all other countries:

Japanese: Ramuda (ラムダ)

Dutch: Lambda

French: Lambda

German: Ramda

As in, their actual name is Lambda & their symbol is a Lambda.

i think this is the first look at gallifrey from space we get → honestly it kind of just looks like a lower quality version of what we see in new who (orange red and blotchy, kind of reminds me of a lava field, not that really know what that looks like, but its the vibes) good to know at least that stays consistent)

its been pretty consistent that we've seen one stab/shot to the back take out a time lord → is there like a specific pressure point or something there or are they just so unprepared for any level of injury that they just collapse (i mean plot wise its probably just to get them out of the way, but this is about in universe implications)

again there is a use of spans that seems to be more about distance than time

'lord president of the supreme council' → i think i wrote this down in an attempt to figure out what exactly the president is president of, because the wording changes on occasion (honestly though i was so out of it while writing these notes so i remember very little of my reasoning for anything i wrote) (the brain fog got to me, but well doctor who also got to me, so i still took notes)

'no president without the great key can have absolute power' → measure against dictatorship, seeing as the president pretty much has absolute power other than this (seems to be over people, great key lets them have absolute power over technology), the key is also given to the chancellor, who seems to be the only person who doesn't actually have to listen to anything the president says

'a chancellor' → see this implies that there's more than one, but from this and the other things we see (at least in gallifrey, idk about the rest classic who) there's only one at a time (maybe there's one for each chapter, or one that works directly under the president while there's ones that manage each of the chapters)

the doctor is the first president since rassilon to have the great key

it really just looks like a normal metal key, if maybe a slightly fancy one

'no one could connect with the matrix without the circlet' → does this mean like fully connect and access the matrix, because in the last gallifrey serial we see both the doctor and goth inside the matrix so (either a case of they're saying something different from what happened here last time, or time lords once again have no clue how their society works)

Novavax elicits broader, longer lasting, and sequentially increasing protection from past and present strains of covid than Pfizer and Moderna's mRNA vaccines. This is the fourth study in a row showing Novavax's increasing efficacy with additional boosters, something not seen with mRNA covid vaccines. If you can, you should try and get started on a Novavax series. The more doses you can get, the better lasting protection you'll have.

Abstract Background NVX-CoV2373, a recombinant SARS-CoV-2 spike (rS) protein vaccine with Matrix-M™ adjuvant, has been authorized for use in adults and adolescents. PREVENT-19 (NCT04611802/2019nCoV-301), a pivotal phase 3, randomized, placebo-controlled trial demonstrated robust efficacy of a primary, 2-dose series of NVX-CoV2373 against COVID-19. Methods Protocol expansions to PREVENT-19 included enrollment of adolescents (aged 12 to <18 years) and administration of 3rd and 4th doses of NVX-CoV2373 to adults and adolescents. Participants randomized 2:1 received NVX-CoV2373 or placebo 21 days apart; 3rd and 4th doses were administered ≥6 months after the preceding dose. Secondary and additional assessments included post-3rd- and 4th-dose immune responses (neutralizing antibody [nAb], anti-rS IgG, human angiotensin-converting enzyme-2-receptor binding inhibition [hACE2-RBI]) and response durability (post-3rd dose) to ancestral virus; cross-reactivity to Omicron subvariants; safety; and reactogenicity. Results Immune responses were observed against ancestral virus after two doses of NVX-CoV2373 but not after placebo. In both adults and adolescents, additional doses of NVX-CoV2373 increased nAb titers, anti-rS IgG levels, and hACE2-RBI; durable responses were recorded 8 months post 3rd dose. nAb responses post 3rd dose were noninferior to those post primary series. Cross-reactivity to BA.5 and BQ.1.1 variants was also observed, with anti-rS IgG levels post 3rd or 4th dose exceeding previously reported correlates of protection. Additional doses of NVX-CoV2373 were well tolerated, with no new safety signals. Conclusions NVX-CoV2373 elicited robust and durable humoral immune responses to ancestral SARS-CoV 2 as a 3rd and 4th dose after the primary series in adults and adolescents. Cross-reactivity to relevant variants provides insight into potential protection against antigenically related, but shifted, viral strains. Additional doses of NVX-CoV2373 were well tolerated with no new safety signals. These results support the utility of this vaccine platform and continued updates, based on currently circulating strains, to help effectively combat SARS-CoV-2 infection.

LoZ: Wild - The 7 Heroines Symbol Analysis

Ya'll, with @alasse-earfalas' help, I realized that dang near every one of the Heroines' symbols all relate to mathematical symbols or phonetic symbols in some way!

To start off, one of them is most definitely a Lambda, which relates back to another theory, but that's for another time.

Anyway, here are the symbols in question!

The one in the upper left is the Lambdah (Λ/ʎ), which is the letter correlating to L in the Greek alphabet.

The Lambda is the 11th character in the Greek alphabet & according to Herodotus, Labda was the daughter of Amphion (demi-god son of Zeus & twin to Zethus, associated with the lyre) & the mother of Cypselus by Eetion. Cypselus eventually established the earliest known tyrant dynasty.

Evidently, it symbolized unity under oppression & is referred to as the Greek letter for “sameness.” It also corresponded with the number 30 in the Greek numerical system. Which, 30 was often associated with maturity, as well as the attainment of a certain level of experience or wisdom, especially considering the lifespan expectations in ancient times.

The origins of the letter is thought to depict a shepherd's staff, meaning that it has themes of guidance & authority. It's shape also resembles an arrow pointing upwards, which conveys an impression of accent or elevation. And this leads to metaphorical themes revolving around progress or advancement.

Not to mention, in physics, it refers to wavelength. But in calculus, it's a "formal system in mathematical logic for expressing computation based on function abstraction & application using variable binding and substitution."

Here are the symbols, as I know them. Λ (lambda, phonetic symbo, Ll; ʎ used in math), ʃ ("esh" & integral; phonetic symbol, formerly used to represent ‘sh’) or ⎎ (technical symbol, hysteresis symbol, correlates to f), ǁ (math, parallel to; phonetic symbol, aveolar lateral consonant), : (ratios or scales), ❜ (phonetic symbol), o (phonetic symbol) or O (math, Landau's symbol, describes the asymptotic behavior of functions or represents the null matrix where all elements are zero), last is the drop-looking symbol that I'm struggling with.

It may be that the colors of them are also important.

Just for reference, asymptote is defined as "a line that continually approaches a given curve but does not meet it at any finite distance."

Now, for the Heroines, here's what we know.

Rotana said that the powers were: "skill, spirit, endurance, knowledge, flight, motion, & gentleness."

However, the Stelae say that they are: "heart, skill, fortitude, wisdom, flight, mobility, & compassion."

Luckily, these are easily condensed: heart/spirit, skill, fortitude/endurance, wisdom/knowledge, flight, motion/mobility, & gentleness/compassion.

Heart & spirit are interchangeable as "heart" is likely referring specifically to one's spiritual heart based on Kokoro (心), which can translate to both.

For now, I believe that the Λ may be the symbol for the Heroine of either wisdom/knowledge or motion/mobility or possibly flight. Though, for the moment, I'm leaning more towards wisdom/knowledge.

And, because of the nature of spirit within Japanese culture, I'm inclined to believe that the symbol of the Heroine of heart/spirit may have been ❜.

Heart = ❜

Skill = "The ability to do something well."

Fortitude = "Courage in pain or adversity."

Wisdom = Λ?

Flight =

Mobility = Λ/O? "The ability to move or be moved freely & easily."

Compassion = "Sympathetic pity or concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others."

Also, the gifts left for the 8th were a gold rupee, a ruby, a sapphire, a topaz, a spear, a shield, a claymore, & scimitar.

These gifts were all positioned at the foot of a statue with, most likely the 8th being the one in the center.

Starting from front-left (Gerudo Shield), middle-left (Golden Claymore), back-left (Ruby), middle-back (Sapphire?), then going back-right (Topaz), middle-right (Gerudo Scimitar), front-right (Gerudo Spear), & ending in center (Gold Rupee?).

I haven't figured it all out yet, but if anyone has any suggestions or knows what the drop symbol is, I encourage assistance.

I just realized that it's very possible that the game already shows you which is which.

Look at the way they are always arranged.

It appears to be the same each time.

And, the Stelae, which may or may not have been carved by the Heroines themselves, write it out as "heart, skill, fortitude, wisdom, flight, mobility, & compassion."

Also, something interesting of note is the characters used for them in Japanese.

Shin or Kokoro (心) = Heart, spirit, mind.

Gi or Waza (技) = Skill, technique.

Tai or Taeru (耐) = Enduring, to resist or withstand (e.g. 耐火 is “fire-proof”).

Chi or Shiru (知) = Knowledge, wisdom.

Hi or Tobasu (飛) = Flight, used in a lot of verbs related to jumping or letting something fly.

Dō or Ugoku (動) = Motion.

Jū or Yawaraka (柔) = Gentleness, softness (it’s the “ju” in judo).

... Regardless, even if I am right, I'm still ridiculously curious as to what the drop symbol is, though. Like, is it just the odd one out that they chose just to mess with us?

Are the gifts they left for the 8th in any way related to their Special Powers™ or the way they fight? Are the symbols?

And, if so, how?

Like, I'm pretty positive that, if I am right, then the Heroine of Heart's symbol is, in fact, a reference to the Mitama of Japanese myth & the Heroine of Fortitude's gift may have been a hint to the term taika (耐火) meaning "fireproof."

Though, I noticed that the weapon missing from this line-up is the Golden Bow. But, then again, it's possible that one of the Heroines that gave a gem might've used one. Possibly the Heroine of Flight. I mean, Hi (飛) is evidently used in verbs referring to “letting something fly,” so that might well be it.

I'm not entirely positive of the rest, though...

... That drop sign is gonna erk me until I get confirmation, won't it? 😮‍💨
