J Curby Gremlin headcanon

Curby is, in a sense, a family man. Although he doesn't seem like the type of vehicle to hold any value when it comes to others, this couldn't be farther from the truth. By nature, he is a hardcore criminal, and a very good one at that. But that doesn't prevent him from looking after his people as if they were direct kin.

Having grown up in the world he lives in where jobs, medical care and good credit are pretty much inaccessible to Gremlins, as his sordidly gathered riches grew, he took it upon himself to provide for his kind that were far worse off. He provided jobs to those that didn't have one. He bought houses near his base of operations for his workers and their families. He provided parts to all who required them. And in return, his people, for the most part, did pretty much anything he asked of them. And as his syndicate grew, so did his business.

The respect that a lot of Gremlins have for him is beyond calculation. And not one of his crew would ever rat him out for this reason, regardless of legal consequence. They also understand that if Curby ever were to go under, it would rip the safety barrier that is his kindness right out from underneath the wheels of many innocent Gremlins.

Curby doesn't engage particularly politely with any vehicle that isn't a lemon. But the second you put another Gremlin in front of him, he becomes the nicest and most charismatic chap you could possibly hope to meet. And he would never turn away a Gremlin in need. He would consider this action to be utterly abhorrent on his part.

A lot of Gremlins under his care don't actually have any idea about Curby's underground world. And even if they did, its doubtful that they'd make a fuss. He provided them a port in an eternal storm. And there's no way in hell they would give that up.

Hardcore crime boss? Yes. Completely evil? Not quite. It's a shame that his greed and his vindictiveness towards the world that had been cruel to him took him past the point of no return.
