Spoilers for Pjo now I guess. Never thought I’d have to type that out.

I have a feral urge to write a fanfic from the perspective of Olympus while all the events of Pjo where going down.

Like what were the political standings like when it was Zeus vs Posiden and it looked like another war was about to break out?

What were the Gods relations with one another and what were their relationships like with the other nymphs and Saytrs and Minor Gods that live on that mountain?

I know Hades isn’t really close with anyone on Olympus but do Zeus and Posiden have any sort of relationship with their sisters?

What about Hephaestus and Ares. They weren’t on good terms in the myths but Aphrodites story is presented a lot differently in the books from traditional Greek hyms.

How is Ares and Zeus’ relationship. It must be pretty strong if Zeus doesn’t punish him for switching over to Kronos side just for the sake of starting a war when Apollo interacting with one of his descendants to give Octavian his blessings was punished as badly as him killing the cyclopses or killing Python, and overthrowing Zeus.

What about the girls? Do Athena and Artemis get along? They’ve both taken vows of chastity and are both adept in weapons and fighting (plus they both piss of Aphrodite, if that’s not something to bond over then what is)

Like I need to know how they all interact with each over, who they like and dislike and why?

I also would love to see how trauma affects their view of the world.

I mean Demeter, Hestia, Hera, Hades, Posiden and Zeus’ father tried to murder them when they were born so I imagine their judgment on healthy household relations is understandably skewed.

And then there’s the next generation.

Athena, Aries, Hephaestus, Artemis and Apollo.

Athena is canonically the golden child in the myths so how does that affect her?

She tried to overthrow Zeus in the myths so there’s clearly some tension there. Does she like being his favourite child or does she despise the pressure constantly placed on her to conform to an unreachable standard of perfection?

And What about Ares and Hephaestus? Hera considered them both embarrassments in different ways. Of course the infamous story of Hephaestus’ birth and how ugly he was, but then there’s Ares who is constantly in his sisters shadow despite them both being Gods of war.

It would’ve shamed Hera in those times to have a son who looses out to the bastard child of one of Zeus flings, but to have two sons both be subpar compared to the kids Zeus had with other woman?

That’s gotta create some rivalry for daddy’s favourite, and maybe a silent understanding between Ares and his brother.

And then we have the twins. Apollo who looking at all his attributes is definitely suffering from some sort of burnout as well as his father constantly punishing him with lightning probably some resentment there and maybe even some towards Artemis.

As far as we know she’s never been in trouble with Zeus despite ‘meddling in mortal affairs’ by helping Leo and Piper. Again maybe something to do with favouritism Zeus seems very partial to the woman in his family. Plus she doesn’t spend a lot of time on Olympus, maybe she’s as silently resentful as Apollo.

Though we see her worrying for him in blood of Olympus and he breaks the ancient ‘no meddling’ laws in Titans curse in order to help save her. So they’re clearly close, but I don’t think she knows about the lightning thing. I’m not sure if Zeus punishes just Apollo with it, though we hear no mention of any of the other gods experiencing physical abuse from their father.

Then we have the youngest and most recent generation (I’m splitting them into their own category cause they’re the only major gods to be birthed by humans)

Dionysus and Hermes.

We see in sea of monsters that Hermes doesn’t seem to really find joy in his position as a god anymore, maybe the stuff he did used to be fun but it’s gotten monotonous, even stressful with how much stuff he has to do and with no one to help.

Honestly maybe that’s a bonding experience? Him and Apollo silently lamenting about how exhausted they are by all their jobs?

And Dionysus. He seems to be seen as some sort of perpetual joke by Zeus, at least in the books. I mean why else give such a long winded and honestly disproportional response for such a minor action.

I mean even Apollos punishment (though being a lot worse) only lasted a couple months.

And the thing I haven’t even touched on with Hermes and Dionysus being from human descent. Do they miss their old lives?

Hermes had only been born a couple days before he was sent to Olympus, but still, it wasn’t as though he could bring his mother with him. Does he miss her? Or see her as some stranger he left behind. Did he mourn her death? Did Dionysus mourn his own mother. Was he angry with Zeus when he learnt his own father was the reason for her death? If he did what could he do about it?

And Dionysus spent years in the human realm (depending on which myths you look at) did he have friends? Lovers? How did he feel when they died and he continued to live on?

The Gods are left relatively untouched despite being such a large part of the series and it’s events, even ToA doesn’t give us a lot more than what audience already knew from myths and reading previous books.

They’re so intriguing to me because there’s something so human about their actions despite how vehemently they’d probably claim against it. In some ways they’re almost identical to people and it makes me slightly insane that we’ll never get to know everything about them all and the lives they led before the events of the series in modern New York.

Cats (1998) But it’s Realistic

Something that has occured to me as I've been replaying Hades: initially it bothered me that the game takes place after the Trojan War because the abduction of Persephone is usually treated as a pretty foundational/early myth in the timeline and the Trojan War is usually treated as the swan song/closing act to the age of Greek heroes/myths. But I've realized their is a bit of brilliance in it.

The historical Trojan War set off the collapse of Greek civilization that resulted in the Greek Dark Ages (OSP has a great video about the details here) where cities were abandoned, writing was forgotten, huge swaths of people died, and the Greeks pretty much had to start society over from scratch resulting in Classical Greece as we think of it now. If Persephone's abduction and Demeter's resulting eternal winter happened shortly after the Trojan War and persisted for a few centuries that fits neatly into the timeline of the Greek Dark Ages.

It also puts Demeter's depiction as a terrifying eldritch nature Goddess into context. She didn't just kill a few humans or devastate a few cities. She ended a civilization in her grief and rage. No wonder everyone is kinda scared of her.

Observations from the Cats Paramount Theatre 2025 Cast/Artistic Team List

List here in case you want to have a look yourself. This stuff I noted and was interested in when looking through it, as well as the thoughts I had when I saw them

I've never heard of anyone in the cast except for one. Emily Rohm (she/they) as Grizabella. For those unaware she was Jane Doe from Ride the Cyclone in the original Off-Broadway Production as well as it's Chicago Shakespeare Theatre production.

Aside from the usual Dance and Fight Captains, there is also an Intimacy Captain and a Circus Captain.

Mungojerrie's actor covers Coricopat. Which leads me to believe that Coricopat and Tantomile have either roles that are more prominent, or will be doing specific choreography and tricks that not all of the actors can do.

Rumpleteazers actor is non-binary, and only has a male cover (who also covers Mungojerrie), so I'm assuming the intention is that Rumpleteazer is non-binary in this version. Given that the lyrics for Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer don't actually use any pronouns for the pair I'm surprised that the Jellicle Ball didn't do more gender fuckery with the two. Go circus Cats production, I love you for this!

In a rarity Sillabub is covering Demeter. I find this weird given that Sillabub is normally one of the roles that doesn't do covers, and Demter is a bit of an odd choice to have her cover. (Though if you subscribe to the Jemibub is a Demcavity kitten, maybe it's not.) This might be due to the more physical demands of characters as previously suggested with the Mungojerrie covering Coricopat point.

Characters that have alternate names depending on the production will both appear in this production. Cabucketty and Pouncival both appear, as well as Plato and Admetus. Plato's actor will be playing Macavity as well. No Bill Bailey and Jemima though.

We got some rare cats. George, Etcetera and Exotica are in this production. That's right guys, we have an Etcetera sighting!

There is a dialect coach on the artistic team, so it can be assumed that some of the cats will be singing in different accents.

Also included was a clown consultant. I love that there's a production where we can say that.

Flight Director is also a thing. This is probably for all the aerial cirque stuff they'll do.

Intimacy Director along with the Captain. Maybe Demelurina kiss in this one. I'm joking...I'm not joking, just give me one guys!

AHHH THE SPRING EQUINOX IS HERE!

Technically for most people today is a day dedicated to the goddess Eostre since Ostara is inspired after her. But since I'm mostly a helpol, today is a day for me to celebrate the day of Demter and Persephone's reunion on earth! I even finally started my altar for Demeter after getting a new shelf for the two :D Oh, and lady Hecate is there, too :)

As a Demeter kid, you pretty much always felt suffocated by technology. Not that you hated it, just how it affected the more natural side of the world.

That's one of the main reasons you liked camp so much- fresh strawberries and the forest surrounding it all? It was perfect.

Especially when you got claimed- everything pretty much shifted into place. It made sense. Which isn't what most half-bloods think when they first arrive.

Camp was pretty much the most relaxing place for you- despite monsters and war games... It really did calm you down!

Not that you were necessarily calm all the time, but you just fit at camp so well. You didn't feel out of place, and that just made everyone around you feel much more at home.

Thats one of the reasons you and Percy became such quick friends

You probably met though grover (who im convinced is a massive tree hugger/pos) and Percy just thought you were so cool

To him, you were just a breath of fresh air. You didn't feel like a child of Demeter, just someone who loved nature. It was a break from his consent panicking.

Though he quickly began to panic for a different reason: he liked you.

It was really obvious.

I've said this before, but Percy is such a heart eyes typa guy!

You were pretty down to earth and you pretty much immediately knew he was into you.

You got together pretty quick (id like to think you asked him but it really doesn't matter)

Strawberry field dates! Once or twice a week (at least)

Going with him and Sally to the beach house every year! (Which you and Percy end up buying so you dont have to live in a city)

Crack fic idea time!!

Winter, back during Hercules' school days. Icarus shows up to some event they were attending that day ["they" being the rest of the group (Herc, Cassandra and Phil) ] with a toddler waddling after him.

Where'd he found the kid? Some cave entrance; "He was alone and it's cold outside. What? Was I supposed to let him there? To freeze to death?"

Now who exactly is that child? Baby Zagreus (who's "babysitters" — Pain & Panic — are currently fumbling to find him before the Boss and Missus finish whatever crisis they had to deal with and return to find their baby missing)

This is what happens when you're out of responsible options and decided to let the imps watch a two year old.

Now, who's going to figure out that whole situation first? That's up to anyone, really.

Does it make sense for the plot? Absolutely not!

It it funny tho? Definitely!

Hades finds out Zagreus is with Hercules and immediately assumes Hercules kidnapped him 😭. He goes all protective dad mode, bruning up everything.

I actually had a similar story idea about the kids sneaking away to go see Grandma Demeter.

Like it's winter, as usual. Hades and Persephone are stuck in long underworld meetings. Meaning Pain and Panic are babysitting Zagreus, Melione, and Makaria.

Now the kids are having none of it and are missing their grandma 🥺. What do they do? well, they decide to waddle their way out of the underworld to Sicily (referred to as Demters and Persephone's home). idk how their little legs do it, but somehow they get there with no problems 🤣.

Demeters is all sad, crying that her daughter and grandchildren are gone. Until there's a tiny knock on the temple door. She opens the door, not expecting any visitors. Only to see her grandchildren looking up at her all doe eyes.

Obviously, Demeter is thrilled, scooping them up and taking them inside. Lighting the fireplace, getting warm blankets, making tea, and sweet treats. But with Demeter now happy….the snow begins to melt…and flowers start growing….uh oh….

Meanwhile, Pain and Panic are scrambling to find the kids 💀 they just know Hades is going to kill them. It's quite a fun idea, especially with a focus more on Demeter. I feel like people don't talk enough about Disney Demeter, rather than just pinning her as the controlling helicopter parent. The bad guy who doesn't want her daughter to have a relationship. Or even her own life...*cough cough* Lore olympus *cough*

In at least one surviving source it's mentioned the fact that Europa participated at Cadmus and Harmonia's wedding:

"But Cadmus, to atone for the slaughter, served Ares for an eternal year; and the year was then equivalent to eight years of our reckoning. After his servitude Athena procured for him the kingdom, and Zeus gave him to wife Harmonia, daughter of Aphrodite and Ares. And all the gods quitted the sky, and feasting in the Cadmea celebrated the marriage with hymns. Cadmus gave her a robe and the necklace wrought by Hephaestus, which some say was given to Cadmus by Hephaestus, but Pherecydes says that it was given by Europa, who had received it from Zeus. And to Cadmus were born daughters, Autonoe, Inon, Semele, Agave, and a son Polydorus. Inon was married to Athamas, Autonoe to Aristaeus, and Agave to Echion..."

Which is extremely vague and confusing, yet speaks a lot due to the numerous ways you can interpret this. So Cadmus reunited with Europa in this version, and he even invited her at their wedding. But did Europa give that necklace to Harmonia out of kindness and respect without knowing it was cursed, or intentionally, being aware of the fact that the necklace was cursed and wanting to punish her brother in this way (who not only that gave up searching for her at one point out of fear for her rapist, but married one of his descendants as well)?

Simultaneously, Diodorus Siculus mentions Harmonia as the daughter of Zeus and Electra, and by extension Iasion is considered her brother (though I personally go by the interpretation that Aphrodite asked Electra to raise her daughter, which would still make her have a brother/sister relationship with Iasion).

Diodorus Siculus, Library of History 5. 48. 2 ff (trans. Oldfather) (Greek historian C1st B.C.) : "There were born in that land [of Samothrake (Samothrace)] to Zeus and Elektra (Electra), who was one of the Atlantides, Dardanos and Iasion and Harmonia . . . Zeus desired that the other of his two sons [Iasion] might also attain honour, and so he instructed him in the initiatory rites of the mysteries [of Samothrake], which had existed on the island since ancient times but was at that time, so to speak, put in his hands; it is not lawful, however, for any but the initiated to hear about the mysteries. And Iasion is reputed to have been the first to initiate strangers into them and by this means to bring the initiatory rite to high esteem. After this Kadmos (Cadmus), the son of Agenor, came in the course of his quest for Europe [i.e. his sister who had been abducted by Zeus] to the Samothrakians, and after participating in the initiation [into the Mysteries of Samothrake] he married Harmonia, who was the sister of Iasion and not, as the Greeks recount in their mythologies, the daughter of Ares. [N.B. The usual account was that Harmonia was given to Elektra mother of Iasion to raise as her own.] This wedding of Kadmos and Harmonia was the first, we are told, for which the gods provided the marriage-feast, and Demeter, becoming enamoured of Iasion, presented him with the fruit of the corn, Hermes gave a lyre, Athene the renowned necklace and a robe and a flute, and Elektra the sacred rites of the Great Mother of the Gods [Rhea-Kyebele], as she is called, together with cymbals and kettledrums and the instruments of the ritual; and Apollon played upon the lure and the Mousai (Muses) upon their flutes, and the rest of the gods spoke them fair and gave the pair their aid in the celebration of the weding. After this Kadmos, they say, in accordance with the oracle he had received, founded Thebes in Boiotia, while Iasion married Kybele (Cybele) [here identified with Demeter] and begat Korybas (Corybas) [leader of the Korybantes]. And after Iasion had been removed into the circle of the gods, Dardanos and Kybele [Demeter] and Korybas conveyed to Asia the sacred rites of the Mother of the Gods and removed with them to Phrygia . . . To Iasion and Demter, according to the story the myths relate, was born Ploutos (Plutus, Wealth), but the reference is, as a matter of fact, to the wealth of the corn, which was presented to Iasion because of Demeter's association with him at the time of the wedding of Harmonia. Now the details of the initiatory rite are guarded among the matters not to be divulged and are communicated to the initiates alone; but the fame has travelled wide of how these gods [the Kabeiroi (Cabeiri)] appear to mankind and bring unexpected aid to those initiates of their who call upon them in the midst of perils. The claim is also made that men who have taken part in the mysteries become both more pious and more just and better in every respect than they were before. And this is the reason, we are told, why the most famous both of the ancient heroes and of the demi-gods were eagerly desirous to taking part in the initiatory rite; and in fact Jason and the Dioskouroi (Dioscuri), and Herakles and Orpheus as well, after their initiation attained success in all the campaigns they undertook, because these gods appeared to them."

Which is all nice n' sweet, until you remember that there are numerous sources which mention that Iasion was killed by Zeus after he had intercourse with Demeter (Hesiod's accounts, Homer's Odyssey).

So my plot scenario is the next one: Iasion and Demeter had sex on a freshly plowed furrow during Cadmus and Harmonia's wedding. They then turned back to the celebration pretending that nothing happened between them two, until Zeus noticed that both of them had mud on their clothes. Either believing that Iasion raped or tried to rape Demeter, or out of jealousy, he then killed Iasion. Meanwhile, Hephaestus managed to make sure that the cursed necklace will be received by Harmonia through Europa. Hephaestus despised Harmonia because she was the bastard child of Ares and Aphrodite and Europa despised Cadmus because he no longer tried to rescue her. Both of them wanted revenge and had a sense of satisfaction from this. On that day, Harmonia lost a brother and Cadmus lost a sister, but in two different ways.
