The Impact of E-Commerce on Packaging Design and Materials
Tumblr media
Introduction (H1): The Transformative Effect of E-Commerce on Packaging Design and Materials
The rise of e-commerce has revolutionized the way we shop, transforming the retail landscape and disrupting traditional brick-and-mortar stores. As more consumers turn to online shopping, the packaging industry has had to adapt to meet the demands of this rapidly growing market. In this article, we will explore the profound impact of e-commerce on packaging design and materials, and how companies like Shitla Paper are providing innovative solutions to cater to these evolving needs.
The Growth of E-Commerce : Changing Consumer Behavior and Packaging Requirements
With the convenience and accessibility of online shopping, e-commerce has experienced exponential growth over the past decade. Consumers now expect their purchases to be delivered safely and efficiently to their doorstep, which has significant implications for packaging design and materials.
In the e-commerce landscape, packaging serves multiple purposes beyond protection and containment. It must also create a positive unboxing experience, reflect the brand's identity, and be environmentally sustainable. This shift in consumer expectations has given rise to the need for innovative packaging solutions that strike a balance between functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability.
The Role of Packaging Design in E-Commerce : Creating a Memorable Unboxing Experience
In the digital age, packaging design plays a crucial role in brand differentiation and customer engagement. E-commerce companies understand that the unboxing experience is an opportunity to create a lasting impression on the consumer. Well-designed packaging can evoke excitement, anticipation, and even emotional connections with the brand.
In response to this trend, packaging design has become more creative and visually appealing. Unique box structures, personalized inserts, and branded materials enhance the unboxing experience and encourage customers to share their positive experiences on social media, generating valuable word-of-mouth marketing.
The Importance of Packaging Materials in E-Commerce : Balancing Protection and Sustainability
E-commerce packaging must ensure the safe transit of products from warehouses to consumers' homes. Traditional packaging materials like cardboard and bubble wrap continue to be widely used, but there is growing awareness of the need for sustainable alternatives.
Eco-friendly materials, such as recycled and biodegradable packaging, are gaining popularity. Companies like Shitla Paper are at the forefront of providing sustainable packaging solutions. By offering paper-based packaging materials that are both protective and environmentally friendly, Shitla Paper helps e-commerce businesses align with their customers' eco-conscious values.

Balancing functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability is essential for e-commerce companies seeking to stand out in a crowded market.

It’s an open secret in fashion. Unsold inventory goes to the incinerator; excess handbags are slashed so they can’t be resold; perfectly usable products are sent to the landfill to avoid discounts and flash sales. The European Union wants to put an end to these unsustainable practices. On Monday, [December 4, 2023], it banned the destruction of unsold textiles and footwear.
“It is time to end the model of ‘take, make, dispose’ that is so harmful to our planet, our health and our economy,” MEP Alessandra Moretti said in a statement. “Banning the destruction of unsold textiles and footwear will contribute to a shift in the way fast fashion manufacturers produce their goods.”
This comes as part of a broader push to tighten sustainable fashion legislation, with new policies around ecodesign, greenwashing and textile waste phasing in over the next few years. The ban on destroying unsold goods will be among the longer lead times: large businesses have two years to comply, and SMEs have been granted up to six years. It’s not yet clear on whether the ban applies to companies headquartered in the EU, or any that operate there, as well as how this ban might impact regions outside of Europe.
For many, this is a welcome decision that indirectly tackles the controversial topics of overproduction and degrowth. Policymakers may not be directly telling brands to produce less, or placing limits on how many units they can make each year, but they are penalising those overproducing, which is a step in the right direction, says Eco-Age sustainability consultant Philippa Grogan. “This has been a dirty secret of the fashion industry for so long. The ban won’t end overproduction on its own, but hopefully it will compel brands to be better organised, more responsible and less greedy.”
Clarifications to come
There are some kinks to iron out, says Scott Lipinski, CEO of Fashion Council Germany and the European Fashion Alliance (EFA). The EFA is calling on the EU to clarify what it means by both “unsold goods” and “destruction”. Unsold goods, to the EFA, mean they are fit for consumption or sale (excluding counterfeits, samples or prototypes)...
The question of what happens to these unsold goods if they are not destroyed is yet to be answered. “Will they be shipped around the world? Will they be reused as deadstock or shredded and downcycled? Will outlet stores have an abundance of stock to sell?” asks Grogan.
Large companies will also have to disclose how many unsold consumer products they discard each year and why, a rule the EU is hoping will curb overproduction and destruction...
Could this shift supply chains?
For Dio Kurazawa, founder of sustainable fashion consultancy The Bear Scouts, this is an opportunity for brands to increase supply chain agility and wean themselves off the wholesale model so many rely on. “This is the time to get behind innovations like pre-order and on-demand manufacturing,” he says. “It’s a chance for brands to play with AI to understand the future of forecasting. Technology can help brands be more intentional with what they make, so they have less unsold goods in the first place.”
Grogan is equally optimistic about what this could mean for sustainable fashion in general. “It’s great to see that this is more ambitious than the EU’s original proposal and that it specifically calls out textiles. It demonstrates a willingness from policymakers to create a more robust system,” she says. “Banning the destruction of unsold goods might make brands rethink their production models and possibly better forecast their collections.”
One of the outstanding questions is over enforcement. Time and again, brands have used the lack of supply chain transparency in fashion as an excuse for bad behaviour. Part of the challenge with the EU’s new ban will be proving that brands are destroying unsold goods, not to mention how they’re doing it and to what extent, says Kurazawa. “Someone obviously knows what is happening and where, but will the EU?”"

Consider, Barret.
I'm always considering Barret!
He's my favorite FF7 character and his design in Remake is outstanding.
Tumblr media
Parts of Barret didn't age too well (his original character concept is "big and scary man" and he's the only major black character so uhhhhh) but I love that he's an unapologetic revolutionary and a genuinely charismatic leader that cares for the people under him as much as for his cause, whether or not they're even his responsibility.
One of the more endearing parts of the Remake is all the ways that Barret still cares for Cloud despite Cloud only being a hired merc instead of being a true believer in Avalanche; he gets worried when Cloud doesn't make it back immediately after they bomb Mako Reactor 1, and when they bomb Mako Reactor 5 and Barret thinks Cloud is about to fall to his death, Barret immediately says "Listen merc, I was wrong about you!" because he won't let anyone under his command die without him doing everything he could, even if all he can do is tell them they made him proud. He even offers to to stay behind and help Cloud battle Rufus Shinra, expecting Rufus to cheat (he does) and not wanting Cloud to sacrifice himself just to buy the party time to escape when that should be his responsibility as Avalanche leader.
He's even a loving father that spoils his daughter Marlene, but instead of making that detail something that contrasts his hardass personality, it's because he has a child that he's a hardcore eco-terrorist—his child's future is on the line.
I love that he's obviously the most well-read party member, quoting books about planetology and social justice in between all of his other lines being a Mr. T caricature. When the likes of Tifa grow uncomfortable with Avalanche's mission because of the ordinary people whose lives they disrupt too, he's always there to steady her and remind them all that their fight is literally for the planet's life; most Shinra employees are ordinary people just trying to do their best for their families, but Shinra itself is slowly destroying the planet and will kill them all, this fight must be done for everyone's sakes. A good man that serves an evil master must recognize his complicity before he can redeem himself.
One of the coolest things the Yuffie DLC does is expand more on Avalanche as a resistance group with different factions, with the main faction receiving support from Wutai. Barret's group is called "the splinter cell" because the other Avalanche factions don't want to associate with them since they think bombing the Mako reactors goes too far. The rest of Avalanche don't want to destroy Shinra entirely and ruin the lives of many people in the process, they want to force it into reforms.
Sonon and Yuffie end up chatting about this and Sonon says "The problem is, Avalanche is made of good people. They're soft. They want things like better work conditions, fair elections, equality for the undercity members. They can't do what needs to be done, and will eventually be against us. If you ask me, those guys in the splinter cell are who we should be supporting." Sonon is speaking as a Wutai agent out to destabilize Midgar in vengeance for Midgar burning Wutai to the ground back in the war, but it also really highlights how Barret is the only real force for change inside Avalanche, if all the other Avalanche factions are getting support from other countries and doing nothing while Barret is waging a full on war and earning victories against Shinra with only a gun, a girl that can punch good, and a twink with a big sword.
Also gameplay-wise Barret carries this fucking team on his back. Steelskin and his huge healthpool make Barret a tank (very important when many enemies can decide to give you the finger and wipe the entire team), and Lifesaver allows Barret to take damage meant for his teammates, which is critical for surviving many tough fights, but also makes gimmick/joke builds like Nailbat Cloud viable where you want to keep him on 25% health to have that crit chance and damage boost, but can't let him get slapped once or he dies.
That's on top of Barret's skills being your best ranged options in Remake that isn't spending MP (Aerith can do way more damage with spells but also dies to a sneeze without spending materia slots on HP Up), which is also highly important as half the enemies are flying around and Cloud can barely air attack until Rebirth reworked him. There's also bossfight gimmicks like The Arsenal's guns being interrupted by Focus Shot (you normally need Thundaga to stop it and Hard mode doesn't let you use items, making MP conservation really important) Maximum Fury being amazing at building stagger on bosses from the sheer hitcount and being very satisfying to use, and Barret's incredible Deadly Dodge allowing you to cheese the super annoying Brainpod fight because he swings his gun and hits all the Brainpods at once.
Finally, it's really funny how the Remake added in a big cosmic fate force called the Whispers that have the ability to raise the dead and cause or prevent disasters as fate demands it only for them to be destroyed by Barret and Red XIII shooting it repeatedly. Capital D Destiny, a fundamental force of the multiverse, was slain by the power of a guy with a gun and a weird dog.

Good day, witches! Let's talk about what not to burn in your magical practice. While fire is a powerful tool for transformation and manifestation, it's essential to use it responsibly and ethically. Here are a few things to avoid burning:
Plastic: Burning plastic releases toxic fumes and pollutants into the air, harming both you and the environment. Stick to natural materials like wood, paper, or herbs for your burnable offerings.
Synthetic Materials: Similarly, avoid burning synthetic fabrics, rubber, or other man-made materials. Stick to natural fibers and materials that can safely be incinerated without releasing harmful chemicals.
Toxic Herbs: Not all herbs are safe to burn. Some herbs can produce irritating or toxic smoke when burned, so do your research and make sure you're using safe and non-toxic herbs in your rituals. Do research what plants are unsafe or toxic to burn, especially if you have fur/scale/feather-babies.
Belladonna (Deadly Nightshade): Its name says it all. It’s lethal. Hemlock: Socrates sipped it; you shouldn’t. Foxglove: Pretty, but deadly. Mandrake: It won’t scream, but it’s still toxic.
Animal Products: Avoid burning animal products such as feathers, bones, or fur, especially if you're unsure of their source or ethical implications. Opt for cruelty-free and ethically sourced alternatives instead.
Sage, if used outside of its designated closed practice. Here's some alternatives
Cedar: Cleansing and grounding. Palo Santo: Sweet, fragrant, and eco-friendly. Rosemary: Purification powerhouse.
Remember, fire is a sacred element, so treat it with respect and reverence in your magical practice. Choose your offerings wisely and always prioritize safety and sustainability. 🔥🌿✨

The global fashion industry, or as we call it in this report, ‘big fashion’, is controlled predominantly by corporate elites in the Global North, and is part and parcel of an economic system designed to maximise profit for the few, at the expense of the lives and livelihoods of working people across the world. The clothes we wear, and the processes that produce them, therefore provide us with a window into the broader inter-connected crises of poverty, inequality, climate and ecological breakdown. Radical alternatives such as degrowth movements offer different ways of envisioning industries like big fashion. Degrowth questions the relentless extraction of resources and exploitation of peoples in the pursuit of corporate profit, proposing that those most responsible for climate damage must reduce production and consume less. The idea is to prioritise moving to a socially just and ecologically sustainable society with social and environmental well-being replacing gross domestic product (GDP) as the indicators of prosperity. This report honours those working in the supply chains of an industry notorious for exploitation and abuse, both of workers and of our planet’s eco-systems. The report is not a blueprint for how to transform big fashion, but an insight into how the business model and economic system they operate in are inherently damaging. It situates the fashion industry as a key sector that must be urgently transformed because of its impact on the planet, and explores the extent to which corporate power and pursuit of profit has driven profound inequality, poverty, and worker exploitation. Crucially, this report explains why the transformation of sectors like fashion must be designed with and by workers and frontline communities, and not become another crisis they must endure.

My Year of the Wheel
Tumblr media
Starting on Yule of this year (December 21, 2023), I will be following a project I'm calling my Year of the Wheel. For the following 365 days, I will observe the Wheel of the Year in order to deepen my connection to my craft and develop my practice. I’ve been a witch for over two years now, but I still don’t feel like it’s permeated my life thoroughly–despite the fact that it feels like my real self, and that it helps me on my healing journey. During this year, I will endeavor to do the following:
observe the Wheel of the Year sabbats
observe the full moons and other events
build my practice into my daily life
focus on my passions and interests such as witchcraft and fiction writing
realize and embody my core values, and learn to set aside those that are less important
practice witchcraft each of the 365 days of the coming year
Using these goals, I hope to ritualize and habitualize my craft. Overall, my goal is to use the Year of the Wheel to deepen my connection with my craft and aid me on my journey of self-healing and becoming a stronger, better person.
I wish to develop my divination skills, so please follow me if you want to see my posts about free readings I'll be doing! I hope to do them frequently, at least a couple times a week. I mostly do tarot but I will expand them over time. Also, feel free to ask about anything 💚
I may not post here daily, but I guarantee I'll be journalling and reflecting on how I practiced daily, and I wish to share here the lessons I learn, the information I discover, and the tips I want to share.
Important disclaimer: I do not profess to be the most knowledgeable academic about witchcraft or paganism. While I do my best to be critical and conduct responsible research, I am ultimately pursuing the craft for myself, and my path is designed to suit my needs and goals. Please take my content (as you should all content) with a grain of salt, and use for yourself only what suits your needs.
Please see below for the master list of my Year of the Wheel posts.

a ribbon of something that popped into my head: when the Tree/Smith is telling the story of the Brothers & says that "balance is not two forces eternally fighting, it's an ecosystem" could that be taken as the narrative actively judging the Brothers for the role they ended up taking on in Remnant? by that I mean, being judged for viewing themselves as above all the other things on Remnant, for isolating themselves from the societies they created and not being A Part of Things. they weren't a part of remnant's ecosystem. never seeing themselves as owing these people anything. this adds a whole new layer to Dark being happy that someone was worshipping him. It wasn't Dark's choice to be that way. It was Light's. this was a fight they'd been having for eons. perhaps Dark obliterated humanity because he was tiring of that battle. imagine how exhausting it would be to have empathy for thousands, millions, and have someone in your ear telling you that they're worthless? if I had to listen to that for an innumerable amount of years I'd probably want them gone eventually too. just so I didn't have to suffer the pain. but he didn't destroy the Grimm. his creations. only the thing he and Light made together.
whatever new world the brothers went to next, I hope Dark's okay. this feels more and more like familial abuse on a cosmic scale by the day.
hey you know what’s really great and also hysterical. about ‘balance is an ecosystem.’
‘the two brothers’ describes the god of darkness as the creator of:
1. the moon.
2. mountains.
3. deserts.
4. storms.
5. volcanoes.
6. earthquakes.
7. the continents as they exist today (he breaks his brother’s supercontinent apart.)
light is vexed by all of this because he considers these things to be ruinous—he accuses dark of spoiling their creation.
but
it means
that the god of darkness created the tides. plate tectonics. weather. eco-diversity. ALL ESSENTIAL NATURAL PROCESSES WITHOUT WHICH LIFE AS WE KNOW IT LIKELY COULD NOT EXIST.
dark is the reason remnant is habitable, not by divine fiat but genuinely a habitable planet. if the mythical division of responsibility is accurate (and i’m inclined to think it is, because it’s written so strongly in light’s favor and if light saw any value in these things he would absolutely have claimed credit for them regardless of whether that was true), then that implies the god of darkness Deliberately redesigned remnant into a world that could survive and thrive without divine intervention.
the god of light made a world by fiat—a world like the ever after, which needed divine agents to tend it—and the god of darkness “spoiled” it. by remaking it into a world that DIDN’T NEED THEM. a world that could only exist in its natural equilibrium, not balanced by force or calculation.
dark understood the assignment. the tree guided the brothers to an empty canvas to learn the true meaning of balance. an ecosystem. a living breathing thing that cannot be planned, only found. light doesn’t get it—light still conceives of himself as the designer, the ruler, the arbiter of balance, and he hates his brother because his brother proved the lie.
what happens to afterans when they lose sight of their purpose? they go home. they ascend. they are renewed and become themselves anew. the tree left the door open for the brothers to return when they were ready.
dark made a world that did not need gods. he made humans and yearned for their attention; in ‘the two brothers’ humans are said to be dark’s favorite creation. he delights in them. and in the lost fable we see that desire playing out through his empathy for salem, his desire to reciprocate, and his cruel retaliation when light convinces him that she lied. and then that cruelty escalates far beyond what either brother could have imagined. dark slaughters humanity—the same tyrannical violence he refused to countenance for eons, destroying the creation he loved best.
does it not naturally follow that he would go home? return to the tree, reflect on his mistakes, and come back as something new? something closer to what he wanted to be when he was still himself, before he let his brother’s warped perspective twist his own?
something, perhaps, less powerful but a little closer to human?
in ‘the two brothers’ a lonely dragon divides himself into two warring halves. we now have hard confirmation that this is only myth, not the true origin of the brothers, and its relevancy to the narrative is purely symbolic.
there are also four very humanlike spirits chained up in those relics, and of the two we’ve met both of them palpably LOATHE ozma but delight in the ingenuity of other humans. and the grimm are drawn to the relics (“something to do with their origins”).
and the spirit of knowledge strains so hard against ozpin’s framing of the narrative that salem’s rightness shines through it like a goddamned lighthouse.
(also ‘gather these magical artifacts and combine them together to bring my dead loved one back to life’ is a pretty fucking standard fantasy grief-gone-wrong trope; if dark ascended and left light behind… like eternal conflict or no, they’re brothers. twins. they have always been together and—because destruction came first—light has never known existence without dark. what would it DO to him if dark ascended and he could not?)

Titan History: Rodan
Welcome once again to Monarch: After Dark, the digital gateway between you and the organisation dedicated to navigating and understanding this troubled new world we live in.
Before we begin, we would like to take a moment to thank you all once again for your engagement with this platform. Just today, Monarch: After Dark has surpassed 50 followers, a great feat in our goal to help the public learn more about and understand the world of the Titans and beyond. We here on the After Dark team appreciate each and every person who interacts with the blog, and hope to see more of you join as we continue this journey together.
To mark the occasion, we will be making an earlier-than-scheduled return to our "Titan History" series with a Titan who has become something of a popular tourist attraction in recent years; the winged demon born of fire, Rodan.
Tumblr media
(Pictured above: The USS Argo approaching Rodan as he rises from the Isla de Mara volcano, circa. 2019)
Monarch Database File: Rodan
Monarch Designation: Titanus Rodan
Height: 154 feet
Weight: 39,043 tons
Wingspan: 871 feet
Nature: Bio-Volcanic
Behavioural Classification: Destroyer
-----
The largest currently known case of "magmafauna" (a term coined by Monarch for superspecies biologically adapted to volcanic environments), Rodan is an impressively intimidating pterosaur-like Titan perfectly adapted to his resting place within the volcano of Isla de Mara. It is speculated by some within Monarch that Rodan's parents had nested within the volcano long ago, Rodan himself seems biologically molded for his home.
Rodan appears to almost be made of volcanic rock, cooled magma coating his wings. Red cracks glow through his wings during flight, giving the impression that the Titan oozes lava as he soars through the air. Due to his volcanic nature, Rodan does not "bleed" as organisms traditionally, as an injury sustained from Mothra's stinger in 2019 only resulted in magma coming out. Truly, Rodan seems to be a living volcano.
His range of abilities similarly match the destructive potential of volcanoes. Capable of flying at supersonic speeds, Rodan need only fly over a city to destroy it, or he can create a powerful sonic thunderclap capable of dispatching several fighter jets with a single strike. His razor-sharp talons and beak aid in dealing with other Titans up-close, and his internal tempearatures can reach such heights that they can burn his opponents if he gets close enough. According to one account, Rodan can cause volcanoes to erupt simply by flying past them.
Tumblr media
(Pictured above: Rodan battling Monster Zero within the latter's storm beyond Isla de Mara, circa. 2019)
While Rodan's existence was known to Monarch as early as 1973, the Titan itself would not be discovered by the organisation until 1991. Under the guise of "environmental research" (a tried-and-tested excuse), Monarch quarantined the volcano of Isla de Mara. As the years went on, the quarantine zone became a fully-fledged Monarch facility, forced to operate with aerial satellites as the volcano's temperatures rendered standard Monarch equipment impossible to use.
In 2019, following the awakening of Monster Zero in Antarctica, former Monarch member-turned eco-terrorist Emma Russell used the ORCA sonar device to awaken Rodan, despite Monarch forces still attempting to evacuate the population of Isla de Mara below. The civilians watched with silent horror as Rodan rose from the volcano, before running screaming as the Titan took notice.
In an effort to divert Rodan's attention, Monarch's command ship USS Argo and its fighter escort Gold Squadron fired on Rodan to draw his ire and lead him to a massive storm generated by Monster Zero, who was headed to the volcano itself in response to Rodan's calls. Rodan took flight, still causing massive damage to the city, before engaging Gold Squadron in a dogfight as the Argo led him toward the larger Titan.

As Rodan made short work of the Gold Squadron, including one documented instance of the Titan "smirking" before using a barrel roll to finish off the remaining jets, both he and the Argo arrived within Monster Zero's storm. The two Titans clashed almost immediately, Rodan holding his own for a while until Monster Zero shot him out of the sky.
Rodan recovered from the attack quickly enough to evade the Oxygen Destroyer's deployment on Godzilla and Monster Zero, and quickly returned to his volcanic home in order to bow before Monster Zero, which recently staked its claim as the Alpha Titan following Godzilla's supposed demise. During the multiple Titan attacks provoked by Monster Zero, Rodan was reportedly responsible for setting off the Ring of Fire around the Pacific Ocean.
Working directly alongside Monster Zero, almost like its personal guard, Rodan fought off military and Monarch forces in Washington, DC. He later turned toward Boston when the ORCA was activated, arriving just in time to intercept Mothra when both she and Godzilla were gaining an advantage over Monster Zero.
Rodan kept Mothra oocupied, ramming her into buildings and using his lethal temperatures to burn her wings to weaken her. Going in for a final attack, Rodan was met by Mothra's stinger, impaling him through his shoulder and incapacitating him for the remainder of the battle.
Due to his volcanic nature, Rodan was able to survive through the thermonuclear pulses given off by Godzilla when he entered a superheated state, and managed to recover to fly off presumably before a thermonuclear explosion consumed Boston and destroyed Monster Zero's body.

Rodan was the final Titan to surround Godzilla in Boston following Monster Zero's demise, still bearing the injury sustained from Mothra. He roared up at Godzilla but was met with a glare, moments after which he bowed down before Godzilla, the first Titan to do so, accepting Godzilla as the true king of the Titans.
Following the Monster Zero crisis, Rodan took refuge in Fiji, where he established a new nest for himself. His presence led to a spike in tourism from people wanting to glimpse the Titan.
To date, Rodan remains dormant in Fiji, and has had no involvement in any of the Titan crises since the Monster Zero crisis.
-----
And that's all she wrote for Rodan! The Titan's re-emergence has been both hotly anticipated and dreaded by the public since his return to dormancy, with many wanting to see the Titan in action once more...presumably because they are far away from wherever he is and thus unlikely to be blown into another country by his supersonic winds. We here on the After Dark team, would indeed want to gleam more data from Rodan, though preferrably from a safe and comfortable distance.
Until next time,
Monarch: After Dark
